Summary The wild lentil, L. nigricans is cross compatible with the cultivated species. Chromosome pairing in their F1 hybrids is highly irregular due to a difference of three translocations between the parental species. However, the hybrids are partially fertile and in the F2 populations there is a marked improvement in fertility. About 19% of the F2 plants were meiotically stable, fully fertile and their chromosome arrangement was similar to that of the cultivated species. All these are clear indications for the possibility of rapid introgression between the two species and hence systematic screening of L. nigricans for traits of economic value is fully justifiable.  相似文献

Summary Introgression of germplasm from diploid wild Arachis species to A. hypogaea has great potential for improving pest resistance in cultivated peanuts. This investigation evaluated methods for incorporating exotic germplasm into cultivated peanuts, especially for Cercospora arachidicola Hori resistance. Interspecific hybrids between A. hypogaea (cvs. NC 2 and NC 5) and the wild species A. cardenasii Krap. et Greg. nom. nud. and A. chacoense Krap. et Greg. nom. nud. were analyzed cytologically and for leafspot resistance. All F1 hybrids were sterile, had irregular meiosis, and very few multivalents. They were highly resistant to C. arachidicola in field tests and had a 10-fold reduction of conidia per lesion in the greenhouse as compared to A. hypogaea cultivars. After colchicine treatments of F1 hybrids, hexaploids (2n=60) and aneuploids (2n=54, 56, 63) were observed. The hexaploids had up to 18 univalents per pollen mother cell and very few multivalents, indicating a low frequency of intergenomic chromosome pairing. For C. arachidicola resistance, significant differences were not found among wild species parents, F1 hybrids and two generations of hexaploids. Most hexaploids were stable at 2n=60 and embryos aborted when backcrosses with the respective wild species were attempted. However, when hexaploids were backcrossed to A. hypogaea, several fertile pentaploid (2n=50) offspring were obtained. Use of self-pollinating pentaploids is believed to be the quickest method to recover 40-chromosome hybrid derivatives in these hybrids.  相似文献

Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L. or A. palustris Huds.) is a highly outcrossing allotetraploid species. It can form hybrids with a number of other Agrostis species and Polypogon genus. However, cytology and pollen grain fertility of the creeping bentgrass interspecific and intergeneric hybrids are not well known. In this research, chromosome pairing behaviors during meiosis I in F1 and pollen viability of F1 hybrids, as well as seed set rate and seed germination rate of backcrosses were studied in hybrids between creeping bentgrass, and other bentgrass species and three species of Polypogon genus. Abnormal chromosome pairing, laggard chromosomes, and premature segregation in F1 hybrids were found. Pollen viability ranged from 1.6 to 48.5% amongst F1 hybrids, significantly lower than that of the parents (85.5–94.1%). Some hybrids produced pollens of different sizes within the same anther. Seed set following backcrosses using F1 hybrids as the male parent and creeping bentgrass as the recurrent parent was significantly lower than their parents. The study of chromosome paring behaviors and progeny fecundity are important in utilizing the alien genes to improve bio-stress and abio-stress resistance, and in assessing the potential transgene risks of creeping bentgrass.  相似文献

Summary Cajanus platycarpus, an incompatible wild species from the tertiary gene pool of pigeonpea (C. cajan (L.) Millspaugh), has many desirable characteristics for the improvement of cultivated varieties. To necessitate such transfers, embryo rescue techniques were used to obtain F1 hybrids. The F1 hybrids were treated with colchicine to obtain tetraploid hybrids, that were selfed to obtain F2, F3 and F4 progenies. All of the hybrids and subsequent progenies had an intermediate morphology between the two parents. Backcrossing of the tetraploid hybrids with cultivated pigeonpea was not possible given embryo abortion, with smaller aborted embryos than those obtained in the F0 parental cross. As a route of introgression, diploid F1 hybrids were backcrossed with cultivated pigeonpea and BC1 progeny obtained by in vitro culture of aborting embryos. BC2 plants were obtained by normal, mature seed germination. Although embryo rescue techniques had to be used to obtain F1 and BC1 plants, it was possible to produce BC2 and subsequent generations through direct mature seed. Every backcross to cultivated pigeonpea increased pollen fertility and the formation of mature seeds.Special project assistant till December, 2003.  相似文献

The mode of inheritance of chloroplast and mitochondrial DNA has been determined in intergeneric hybrids between C. papaya and four different Vasconcellea species by employing a restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of a PCR-amplified chloroplast and mitochondrial DNA region. Artificial F1 hybrids were produced between a female specimen of C. papaya and male specimens of either V. parviflora, V. goudotiana, V. cundinamarcensis or V. quercifolia. The hybridization patterns of all hybrids correspond in all cases with that of the C. papaya mother, and are different from that of the paternal Vasconcellea species, thus indicating the maternal inheritance of cpDNA and mtDNA in intergeneric hybrids between C. papaya and wild relatives of the Vasconcellea genus.  相似文献

Summary Crosses between a wild species C. chacoense and three cultivated species of chili pepper viz. C. annuum, C. frutescens and C. chinense yielded hybrids when C. chacoense was the seed parent but the reciprocal crosses were unsuccessful. C. chacoense × C. annuum F1 hybrids were partly fertile and therefore an F2 population could be raised; the other two F1 hybrids were totally sterile. Chromosome pairing in the F1 plants resulted largely in bivalents and a few multivalents and univalents. The genomes of the four species share large homologies and the role of chromosome structural changes in genome differentiation is suggested. Hybrid sterility is the major reproductive isolation mechanism.  相似文献

Summary Yield and morphology of F1 hybrids E. guineensis x E. oleifera are discussed. Yield of the hybrids in terms of total fruit weight is promising but the oil content of the mesocarp is intermediate between the parental species and lower than in E. guineensis. E. oleifera has a marked tendency towards the production of parthenocarpic fruits. This character is fully dominant in the hybrid. Because of this the percentage fruit per bunch in the hybrids therefore tends to become higher than in E. guineensis partly offsetting the lower percentage oil on mesocarp. The oil composition of the parental species and hybrids are compared.Height increment of the hybrids is substantially lower than of E. guineensis but annual frond production is approximately the same. There is some hybrid vigour for frond area. For most morphological, vegetative and reproductive characteristics E. oleifera exhibits complete dominance over E. guineensis.  相似文献

Summary Homozygous and heterozygous Phaseolus vulgaris and P. acutifolius parental genotypes were hybridized to determine if genotypic diversity would aid gene transfer between these species. Certain P. vulgaris female parents resulting from diverse intraspecific crosses increased the frequency of species hybrids obtained. From a total of 19 self-sterile hybrids, 20 backcross-1 (BC1) lines (P. vulgaris recurrent parent) were produced from 4 partially female-fertile hybrids, each of which had a heterozygous P. vulgaris female parent. Heterozygous P. acutifolius male parents did not influence the frequency at which interspecific hybrids could be produced but apparently improved female-fertility. Fertility of the F1BC1 generation was highly variable. The frequency of fertile individuals increased in each subsequent backcross generation (F1BC2 and F1BC3).Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station Publication 9946.  相似文献

Summary The origin and nature of the diploid cultivated potato species S. ajanhuiri Juz. et Buk. was studied. Several lines of evidence indicate that S. ajanhuiri might be derived from natural crosses between primitive cultivars of the diploid species S. stenotomum and the wild species S. megistacrolobum. Morphological comparisons were made between S. stenotomum x S. megistacrolobum F1 hybrids and naturally occurring S. ajanhuiri to investigate this hypothesis. Comparisons were also made between S. ajanhuiri x S. stenotomum crosses and the F2 generation of the first-mentioned cross.Crosses between the two major groups of S. ajanhuiri cultivars, Ajawiri and Yari, showed not only genetic breakdown but also a wide range of phenotypic variation similar to those of artificial F2 families of S. stenotomum x S. megistacrolobum. Furthermore, there was strong evidence showing that the Yari group of S. ajanhuiri could almost certainly be an F1 S. stenotomum x S. megistacrolobum hybrid, whereas the Ajawiri group could be a backcross of an F1 hybrid to S. stenotomum. These results added further support to the hypothesis of a hybrid origin of S. ajanhuiri, as well as indicating its putative parents. It is suggested that this hybridogenic taxon be retained at the species level under the name Solanum x ajanhuiri.  相似文献

Summary Morphological and cytogenetical studies were carried out on the F1 and F2 hybrids and backcross derivatives of the interspecific cross Capsicum baccatum L. x C. frutescens L. The F1 and F2 hybrids displayed irregular meiosis with a maximum association of eight chromosomes in the former and one quadrivalent in the latter with the appropriate number of bivalents and univalents. It is inferred that C. baccatum differs from C. frutescens (yellow) by at least tow or three interchanges and from the white cultivar by a single interchange. Structural repatterning of chromosomes, erratic meiotic behaviour, genes for pollen sterility, segregational imbalances following intergenomic recombination are believed to be major factors causing sterility in the hybrids. The two species are sympatric and natural hybrids have not been realised.  相似文献

Summary Amphidiploids (Brassicoraphanus) were produced by means of colchicine treatment of F1 hybrids between Brassica japonica Sieb. and Raphanus sativus L. The cytology of the amphidiploids was studied from F1 to F3 generations. Some plants had the euploid chromosome number 2n=38, whereas others had the aneuploid number 2n=37. One or two of either quadrivalents or trivalents, as well as some univalents, were seen in most of the plants examined. All the plants showed a low seed fertility. In F3 generation there arose some yellow-flowered plants, all of which showed a higher seed fertility than normal white-flowered plants. It is postulated that the change of flower colour might originate in the segmental exchange of only partially homologous chromosomes following multivalent formation. A gene causing white flower colour was perhaps closely linked to a gene causing sterility, and both genes were probably excluded together through the segmental exchange of the chromosomes. Therefore, it can be said that the increase of fertility was induced by cytological irregularity.  相似文献

Summary Anthocyanins of colchicine-induced amphidiploids of I. laevigata × I. ensata were analyzed by the HPLC procedure and compared with those of parental species and F1 hybrids of I. laevigata × I. ensata. The amphidiploids were characterized by seventeen anthocyanins, and exhibited all anthocyanins of the parental species and the F1 hybrids. Malvidin 3RGac5G and petunidin 3RGac5G in anthocyanins detected were major pigments in the amphidiploids, which exhibited strongly the malvidin 3RGac5G-petunidin 3RGac5G type of I. ensata rather than the petunidin 3RGac5G-malvidin 3RGac5G type of I. laevigata. Moreover, a higher degree of anthocyanin content was observed in the amphidiploids and the F1 hybrids. Namely, the anthocyanin content of the amphidiploids and the F1 hybrids were 2.81 and 2.45 times as much as that of the mid-parent. This implies that there is a complementary effect on anthocyanin synthesis of parental genes in them. Finally, the utility of the amphidiploids was discussed.Contribution from the Laboratory of Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, Miyazaki Univ., No. 64.  相似文献

Aseptic culture of gynophores to obtain peanut intersectional hybrids   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Summary Cross-incompatibility between cultivated peanuts and their wild relatives outside the section Arachis has impeded the utilization of many species possessing high resistances or good qualities. Despite the great efforts made to culture immature ovules or embryos, few hybrid offspring have been obtained. In this study, gynophores from Arachis hypogaea L. pollinated with A. glabrata Benth. were cultured and F1 hybrids seeds were harvested, and F2 and F3 generations produced. The characters of F2 generation exhibited a wide range of segregation. Leaf peroxidase isozyme PAGE analysis revealed that the hybrids were quite different from their parents in relation to band number, width and isozyme activity. The zymograms of the hybrids and their parents were partially alike. This verified the authenticity of the hybrids.  相似文献

Summary Atrazine resistant Brassica napus × B. oleracea F1 hybrids were backcrossed to both parental species. The backcrosses to B. napus produced seeds in both directions but results were much better when the F1 hybrid was the pollen parent. Backcrosses to B. oleracea failed completely but BC1s were rescued by embryo culture both from a tetraploid hybrid (2n = 4x = 37; A1C1CC) and sesquidiploid hybrids (2n = 3x = 8; A1C1C). Progeny of crosses between the tetraploid hybrid and B. oleracea had between 25 and 28 chromosomes. That of crosses between the sesquidiploid hybrid and B. oleracea had between 21 and 27. A few plants that had chromosome counts outside the expected range may have originated from either diploid parthenogenesis, unreduced gametes or spontaneous chromosome doubling during in vitro culture. Pollen stainability of the BC1s ranged from 0% to 91.5%. All the BC1s to B. oleracea were resistant to atrazine.  相似文献

Summary Fruit rot disease caused by Phytophthora parasiticaDast. is a limiting factor in tomato production in Himachal Pradesh. 30 to 60 per cent fruits are damaged by this disease. Crosses were made between EC 54725 (Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium), a small tyuited type, resistant to fruit rot and four highly susceptible tomato commercial cultivars (Gola, Sioux, S12, and Lalmani). Studies of F1's, F2's and back crosses indicated that EC 54725 carries a dominant gene imparting resistance to fruit rot.  相似文献

Summary Fruit rot in bell pepper caused by Phytopthora capsici Leon. is a limiting factor in its commercial production. Crosses were made between Waxy Globe, a small fruited hot type, resistant to fruit rot and four highly susceptible bell pepper commercial cultivars (Chinese Giant, California Wonder, Osh, Kosh and Yolo Wonder). Studies of the F1's, F2's and backcrosses indicated that Waxy Globe carries a dominant gene imparting resistance to fruit rot. After three backcrosses with California Wonder, lines were obtained combining the resistance gene of Waxy Globe with the large fruit size and low capsaicin of California Wonder.  相似文献

Summary Interspecific hybridization between Brassica napus L. (2n=38, a1a1c1c1) and B. oleracea var. capitata L. (2x- and 4x-cabbage; 2n=2x=18, cc and 2n=4x=36, cccc) was carried out for the purpose of transferring clubroot disease resistance from the amphidiploid species to cabbage. Nineteen hybrids with three different chromosome levels (2n=28, a1c1c; 2n=37, a1c1cc and 2n=55, a1c1cccc) were obtained. The F1 plants were mostly intermediate between the two parents but as the number of c genomes in the hybrids increased, the more closely the hybrids resembled the cabbage parent. All F1 hybrids were resistant when tested against race 2 of Plasmodiophora brassicae wor. The complete dominance of resistance over susceptibility suggested that the gene(s) controlling resistance to this particular race of the clubroot pathogen is probably located on a chromosome of the a genome in Brassica.Contribution No. J654.  相似文献

An intraspecific (Tetir × ILL 323) and an interspecific (Alpo × L. odemensis) lentil hybrid were multiplied in vitro in three consecutive micropropagation cycles to increase the production of F2 seeds. Cloning efficiencies were slightly higher for Tetir × ILL323 (83%) compared to Alpo × L. odemensis (67%). A total of 982 F2 seeds were produced in the experiment with Alpo × L. odemensis, consisting of the 334 F2 seeds of the original hybrid and 648 F2 seeds produced by the 12 plants cloned; consequently, F2 seed production was increased three-fold over the original hybrid (194%). A total of 6050 F2 seeds were produced in the experiment with Tetir × ILL 323, made up of the 483 F2 seeds of the original hybrid and 5567 F2 seeds produced by the 15 plants cloned; therefore, F2 seed production was increased by more than twelve-fold over the original hybrid (1153%). In both hybrids the F2 seed production of cloned plants diminished in the three consecutive multiplication cycles, with the plants having experienced less vegetative development. In lentil, F2 seed production of cloned plants is related for the first time to the length of their period of vegetative development. In conclusion, micropropagation of hybrids is an interesting tool to construct from a single individual large F1 populations that enable to increase by a manifold the production of F2 seeds useful for genetic studies and breeding.  相似文献

Summary Density of certain types of trichomes were characterized on leaflets of Lycopersicon hirsutum, L. esculentum and their hybrids. Trichome density covaried with leaflet development, and depending on the species and type of trichome, density also covaried with leaflet surface. Type IV trichomes were not observed on leaflets of L. esculentum and Type V trichomes were not observed on leaflets of L. hirsutum. Type IV and V trichomes were present on F1 hybrids and densities of these two types of trichomes segregated in the F2 population. When corrected for differences of leaflet size between L. hirsutum and L. esculentum, densities of Type VI trichomes were more similar between species than uncorrected densities. There was little difference in Type VI density among F2 individuals. The appearance, lipid and phenol staining properties, and native fluorescence of the multicellular tip of the Type VI trichome differed between L. hirsutum and L. esculentum. F1 hybrids were intermediate for these characters and these characters segregated in the F2 generation. The investigation reported in the paper (84-10-94) is in connection with a project of the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station and is published with the approval of the Director. Summary The occurrence of natural triploid hybrids between tetraploid Solanum acauleBitter subsp. acaule and diploid S. infundibuliformePhilippi both tuber-bearing Solanums, in the Puna region of Jujuy, is reported. The natural hybrids, which are morphologically intermediate between their putative parents and completely male sterile, have a somatic chromosome number of 36. The artificial hybrids, obtained by crossing both parental species, closely resemble the natural ones thereby confirming their parentage. It is proposed to designate the natural hybrids Solanum x viirsooi hybr. nov.  相似文献
