Characteristics of the meat of cattle with cysticercosis due to experimental infection with the eggs of the tapeworm Taenia saginata and treated with praziquantel

Eleven test and control bullocks of the Bohemian Spotted breed were studied for the effect of cysticercosis and their treatment with praziquantel on the properties of meat and fat. As found, the disease affected the composition of meat and fat and some of the studied characteristics and technological properties of meat. Although the measles disappeared after treatment, they were not resorbed. Therefore, irrespective of the worsened meat quality, the meat and organs of such animals cannot be evaluated in any other way but according to the valid veterinary regulations.

Injuries associated with the cartilages of the foot

There is a growing body of evidence that uniaxial or biaxial ossification of the cartilages of the foot should not be discounted as irrelevant in a lame horse, especially if extensive. Potential causes of pain and lameness include primary injury of an ossified cartilage and/or the ipsilateral aspect of the distal phalanx, injury of the chondrocoronal or chondrosesamoidean ligaments and desmopathy of the collateral ligaments of the distal interphalangeal joint.     

Reactivity of the immunological system of turkeys vaccinated with the Newcastle virus after intoxication with carbaryl

Research has shown that among pesticides, carbaryl is one of the strongest immunosuppressors for numerous animal species. In this paper, the effect of carbaryl on biochemical parameters and on specific and non-specific immunity in carbaryl-intoxicated birds was determined. The results indicate a significant immunosuppressive effect in turkeys, on almost all the investigated biochemical parameters and on the indices of specific and non-specific immunity. The only exception is a slightly elevated level of total protein and reactivity of T lymphocytes to non-specific mitogen in the group of intoxicated birds.     

浙东白鹅与郎德鹅杂种后代屠宰性能与肥肝性状的相关分析

通过浙东白鹅与郎德鹅及其级进杂交后代F1、F2,填饲16d、21d、26d的屠宰性能和肥肝性状测定数据的相关分析,F2体重比F1略有减轻,肥肝重则增加60.2g,提高12.19%。由此说明浙东白鹅级进杂交不影响郎德鹅的肥肝性状表现;填肥前体重与肥肝重相关性弱,而宰前体重与肥肝重相关性强,体脂沉积水平与肥肝重的r低于0.3;从填饲时间看,填饲21d屠宰肥肝性能最佳。     

A consideration of the interaction of the horse's hoof with the ground

The resultant, dynamic linear force experienced by the foot of the horse is in parallel with the laminar structures of the foot. It has been shown that the unshod and shod hoof remain stationary on firm ground during most of support, and that changes in the amount and direction of the ground reaction force and the tensile force of the deep flexor muscle-tendon (at least) can account for this parallelism of force and resisting structure.     

Climatic factors associated with the infection of herds of cattle with bluetongue viruses

The incidence of bluetongue virus infection of 15 cattle herds in Queensland, Australia, was determined by a serum neutralization test. The maximum temperature (°C), minimum temperature (°C) and rainfall (mm) data were obtained from the meteorological recording stations closest to each herd. Using unweighted least-squares regression analysis, the best statistical model explaining the most variability in the herd incidence rate included the ratio between the maximum and minimum temperature recorded at both 1 month and 6 months preceding seroconversion, and rainfall recorded at both 2 months and 6 months preceding seroconversion. More than 90% of the variability in the incidence of bluetongue virus infection in the herds was explained by the model, a considerable improvement on previous models that used prevalence data. The prospective nature of the study also supports a strong causal relationship between climatic factors and the occurrence of infection in cattle herds.Abbreviations SN serum neutralization - R _infa ^sup2 adjusted coefficient of multiple determination - AIC Akaike's information criterion - FPE Akaike's final prediction error - PRESS predicted sum of squares
