Allelism of two genes for stem rust resistance in triticale   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary Inheritance studies involving Coorong and Satu triticales showed that each possessed a single dominant gene for resistance. The genes were allelic or closely linked. The relative frequencies of Sr27 (Coorong gene) and Sr Satuin a sequence of International Triticale Screening Nurseries were similar. However, a significant increase in the frequency of entries with SrSatu occurred in the 17 International Triticale Screening Nursery (ITSN).  相似文献

With the aim of producing polyhaploids of hexaploid triticale, 20 genotypes from a CIMMYT breeding programme and eight D-genome chromosome substitution lines of ‘Rhino’ were crossed with maize. In crosses between 20 triticale genotypes and maize, 15 lines produced embryos. Frequencies of embryo formation ranged from 0.0 to 5.4%, with an average of 1.1%. From a total of 200 pollinated spikes, 62 plants were regenerated. Most regenerated plants were polyhaploids with 21 chromosomes, and few aneuhaploids with 22 chromosomes were found. In crosses of triticale substitution lines with maize, all the lines produced embryos, while ‘Rhino’ produced no embryos at all. Higher frequencies of embryo formation were obtained in substitution lines with chromosomes 2D and 4D. These results suggest that D-genome chromosomes in a triticale genetic background have the effect of increasing the frequency of polyhaploid production in triticale x maize crosses.  相似文献

Summary Glume cultures of monogenic recessive mutants PGTSLS1 (Plant Genetics triticale selection large spike 1) and PGTSLG2 (Plant Genetics triticale selection long grain 2) were employed along with their parent PGTS control (Plant Genetics triticale selection control) and their F1 and F2 progenies, to determine the genetic basis of plant regeneration in hexaploid triticale. The mutant PGTSLS1 exhibited greater efficiency of plant regeneration (22.4%) followed by PGTS control (7.6%) and PGTSLG2 did not exhibit any regeneration. All the three F1's exhibited plant regeneration frequency on par with that of control (6.9–7.3%), suggesting dominant nature of control genotype over the isogenic mutants. The F2 results suggested that genetic control over the high frequency regeneration of PGTSLS1 was monogenic recessive in nature, and genetic control over the recalcitrant nature of PGTSLG2 also was monogenic recessive. The F2 of the cross PGTSLS1 × PGTSLG2 segregated into four classes. Of the 114 F2 plants, 19 showed no regeneration, 70 of them exhibited 6–8% regeneration, 20 of them 19–24% regeneration, and 5 of them exhibited highest frequency regeneration (57–60%). These observations suggest dihybrid segregation for regeneration. The highest frequency of plant regeneration (57–60%) exhibited by 5 F2 plants may be due to the interaction of non-allelic genes in recessive condition. These results clearly demonstrate the association of at least two genes with plant regeneration in hexaploid triticale.  相似文献

To assess the tissue-culture response of different karyotypes of spring triticales, immature embryo explants of 20 secondary triticales with a complete karyotype (complete rye genome with or without a 6D/6A substitution) or substituted karyotype (incomplete rye genome with a 2D/2R substitution), two primary triticales with octoploid and two with hexaploid karyotypes, were cultured on MS and on Kao medium supplemented with 2,4-D. Complete triticales produced significantly more embryogenic callus than substituted types. Complete 6D/6A karyotypes showed the highest embryogenic response. Octoploid primary triticales showed high and uniform production of embryogenic callus on both media. These findings complement earlier results on the agronomic and quality differences between the karyotypes.  相似文献

Summary Callus cultures were initiated from inflorescence explants of wheat, rye and triticale on MS medium supplemented with 2 mgl-1 2,4-D+5% CW or 2 mgl-1 2,4-D+0.5 mgl-1 BA. On transfer of the cultures to medium supplemented with 15% CW+0.2 mgl-1 NAA or 1 mgl-1 BA+0.1 mgl-1 IAA, shoot buds and embryoids were produced. Full fledged plantlets obtained on MS medium supplemented with NAA were transferred to the field. Cytological analysis showed the plants to be diploid. However, the regenerated plantlets were shorter, produced fewer tillers and had lower fertility compared to the control.Abbreviations BA Benzyladenine - CW coconut water - IAA indoleacetic acid - NAA -naphthaleneacetic acid - 2,4-D 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid  相似文献

Summary Three triticale lines, Siskiyou, M2A-Beagle, and OK 77842 have been reported to possess resistance to bacterial leaf streak caused by Xanthomonas campestris, pv. translucens (Xct.). The three resistant lines were crossed to susceptible lines and crossed with each other. F2, BC1-F1, BC2-F1 plants were inoculated with a mixture of two Xct strains. The segregation data indicate the presence of a single dominant gene in each of the three resistant lines to bacterial leaf streak. These three genes are either the same or closely linked herein designated as Xct1.  相似文献

Summary Ten hexaploid winter triticale lines were grown for two cropping periods at three locations in western Switzerland. Averaged across the six environments, the differences between lines were statistically significant (P=0.05) for grain yield, above-ground biomass, N uptake, grain N yield, nitrogen harvest index, grain N concentration and straw N concentration. There were significant line x environment interactions for all traits. Grain yield and grain N concentration were inversely related (r=–0.74**). Diagrams in which grain yields were plotted against grain N concentration were used to identify lines with a consistently unusual combination of grain yield and grain N concentration. Despite comparable grain yields, Line 3 had a high grain N concentration, while that of Line 7 was low. Line 3 was superior to Line 7 in both N uptake and N harvest index. Averaged across environments and lines, the N harvest index was 0.73 which corresponds to N harvest indices reported for bread wheat in the same region. We considered the feasibility of developing triticale lines which would outperform the best recent ones in N uptake and partitioning. However, we doubted that this would bring about a marked increase in grain N concentration, because, in the long run, the expected genetic progress in grain yield will lead to a dilution of grain protein by grain carbohydrate increments.Abbreviations GNC grain N concentration - GNY grain N yield - GY grain yield - HI above-ground dry matter harvest index - NHI nitrogen harvest index - SNC straw N concentration - TB total above-ground biomass - TPN total plant N  相似文献

Antibiosis and antixenosis to Rhopalosiphum padi among triticale accessions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Tests for antibiosis and antixenosis resistance to Rhopalosiphum padi L., the bird cherry-oat aphid, were conducted among four wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and eight triticale (XTriticosecale Wittmack) accessions. Tests for antibiosis included measuring R. padi-population growth over 13 days, number of days to reproduction of individual R. padi, and number of aphid progeny produced in the first 7 days of adulthood. Antixenosis was measured in no-choice nymphiposition tests and in choice tests of host selection by winged R. padi. Three of seven triticale accessions limited R. padi populations relative to control accessions. Lower R. padi-population growth on N1185 and Okto Derzhavina could be explained partially by increased developmental times. Lower R. padi-population growth on triticale accessions N1185, N1186 and Okto Derzhavina could be explained at least partially by fewer aphid progeny on these accessions. Developmental time of R. padi on N1185 and Okto Derzhavina was greater than that on Stniism 3 triticale, identified previously as resistant to R. padi. There were less R. padi progeny on N1185 than on Stniism 3, and comparable numbers of R. padi progeny among N1186, Okto Derzhavina, and Stniism 3. None of the accessions limited nymphiposition by R. padi. Choice tests revealed heterogeneity in host selection by R. padi but an overall trend that triticale accessions Okto Derzhavina, N1185, N1186 and Stniism 3 were less preferred hosts than Arapahoe wheat. Relatively strong resistance in these triticale accessions warrant consideration of their future use in breeding programs for cereal-aphid resistance.  相似文献

Summary Crossability of wheat and rye was investigated during thirteen crop cycles in two contrasting locations to 1) evaluate tetraploid and hexaploid wheat parents in crosses with rye, 2) identify genotypes with high crossability and 3) assess the impact of environment on seed development. The majority of the tetraploid wheats crossed with rye had seed set around 20%, but very low embryo viability. Several wheat genotypes with seed set above 50% were identified. The hexaploid wheats crossed with rye showed poor seed set, but plant recovery was relatively high. The majority of the hexaploid wheats with highest seed set (20–30%) were from China. The results suggest differences in crossability between the rye populations, and wheat species by rye interactions. The crossability of the tetraploid and hexaploid wheats was affected by climate in the two locations.  相似文献

Summary Fusarium head blight infection causes severe yield losses and contamination of the grain with mycotoxins in triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack) grown in temperate and semihumid areas. In a two-year experiment thirty-six genotypes were inoculated separately with two isolates of Fusarium graminearum differing fivefold in their in vitro deoxynivalenol (DON) production and the effect on various traits was studied. All traits were significantly affected by head blight. The two isolates differed considerably in their aggressiveness resulting in a mean reduction of grain weight per spike of almost 25% and 50%, respectively. Inter-annual correlation was high for average disease rating (r=0.63, P<-0.01) and low for the other traits. Therefore, disease rating, averaged from two to three records, was regarded a suitable criterion for screening purposes. The effect of isolates on genotypes was not stable over years. The mean DON content of five genotypes with diverse resistance levels was 68 mg kg-1. In vitro DON production of the two isolates used for inoculation did not correspond to their aggressiveness and DON contamination of the grain.  相似文献

Summary The electrophoretic isozyme phenotypes for the AAT-2 and AAT-3 regions of leaves of Triticum turgidum, T. aestivum, Secale cereale, x Triticosecale (hexaploid) and T. aestivum/ S. cereale 6R addition line are described. The phenotypes varied in distribution and relative intensity of the isozyme bands, which were densitometrically measured. The results are consistent with a hypothesis of the dimeric structure for the AAT-2 and AAT-3 systems.  相似文献

Yield and adaptation of hexaploid spring triticale   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Summary Gains in yield and stability were analysed using grain yield data from the 8th to the 14th International Triticale Yield Nursery (ITYN) and differences in adaptation between complete and substituted triticales (X Triticosecale Wittmack) were examined. A trend of improving yield and adaptation was observed. As highly significant genotype × site interaction each year was not adequately described using regression analysis, yield stability was examined by ranking genotypes within sites and summarizing scores for individual genotypes across sites. Cluster analysis was used to study the relationships among sites and among genotypes. There was little evidence of sites grouping on a geographical basis. Grouping of genotypes showed a tendency for complete and substituted triticales to perform differently, suggesting that diversity for adaptation is maximized by utilizing both types in breeding.Progress for grain yield is compared with more spectacular gains in test weight and reasons for the different rates of improvement are postulated.Abbreviations CIMMYT International Maize & Wheat Improvement Centre - ITYN International Triticale Yield Nursery contribution from CIMMYT/Agriculture Canada (No. R-002)  相似文献

Fusarium head blight (FHB), caused by Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium culmorum, is a devastating disease in cereals. This study was undertaken to estimate progeny means and variances in each of five winter triticale and winter wheat crosses using unselected F2−derived lines in F4 or F5 generation bulked at harvest of the previous generation. Fifty (triticale) and 95 (wheat) progeny per cross were inoculated in two (triticale) or three (wheat) field environments. FHB rating was assessed on a whole-plot basis. Mean disease severities of the parents ranged from 2.3 to 6.4 in triticale and from 3.1 to 6.5 in wheat on a 1-to-9 scale (1 = symptomless, 9 = 100% infected). The midparent values generally resembled the means of their derived progeny. Significant (P < 0.01) genotypic variance was detected within each cross, but genotype × environment interaction and error variances were also high for both crops. Medium to high entry-mean heritabilities (0.6–0.8) underline the feasibility of selecting F2-derived bulks on a plot basis in several environments. Phenotypic correlation of FHB resistance between generation F2:4 and F2:5 was r = 0.87 (P < 0.01) tested across 150 wheat bulks at two locations. Our estimates of selection gain are encouraging for breeders to improve FHB resistance in triticale and wheat by recurrent selection within adapted materials.  相似文献

Hexaploid triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) (2n= 6x= 42, AABBRR) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (2n= 6x= 42, AABBDD) differ in their R and D-genomes. This produces differences in both agronomic and end-use quality characteristics. Our objective was to determine how introgressions of individual chromosomes from the D-genome of wheat affect these characteristics of a winter triticale 'Presto'. We studied the effects of 18 D-genome chromosome substitution lines, 15 sib-lines as controls, and five check cultivars at Lincoln, NE in 1996, using a randomized complete block design with two replications. The experiment was repeated at Lincoln and Mead, NE in 1997 and 1998 with 15 substitution lines that survived the first winter in Lincoln, along with their 12 control sibs and five check cultivars. Few D-genome chromosomes had positive effects. Chromosomes 2D, 4D, and 6D significantly reduced plant height when substituted for 2R, 4B, and 6R, respectively. No grain yield increases were associated with any of the D-genome chromosomes tested, but three substitutions decreased the grain yield. Depending on the allele of the hardness gene present, chromosome 5D increased or decreased kernel hardness when substituted for 5R or 5A, respectively. Introgressions of chromosomes 1D and 6D improved end-use quality characteristics of Presto. These results suggest that apart from beneficial effects of individual loci located on the D-genome chromosomes, no major benefit can be expected from D-genome chromosome substitutions.  相似文献

Summary On average, the cereal species studied were susceptible to septoria nodorum blotch (SNB), except for spring triticale on leaf and head and winter titicale on leaf, that appeared to be significantly more resistant, than the other ones.In all three species the SNB response of the adult plants was to a limited extent only predicted by the reaction on first leaf seedlings. In most cases it was impossible to predict the response to SNB of adult plants on the basis of seedling reaction. Correlations between the adult plant stage and the seedling stage, or detached seedling leaves, appears not to be sufficient for use in practical breeding work. A reversal of reaction to SNB was even found between the above growth stages in studied spring and winter wheat varieties.  相似文献

Summary The Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus disease (BYDV) and the Russian wheat aphid (RWA) Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko) have caused significant losses to wheat and barley in several areas of the world. Important sources of resistance to both BYDV and RWA have been found in Triticale. Different generations of interspecific wheat x Triticale crosses were produced and the progenies were screened for BYDV and RWA tolerance. Plants with equal chromosome numbers showed different levels of fertility. A significant correlation was observed between pollen fertility and seed set in primary florets (r=0.57). In generaL, pollen fertility, seed set and the number of euploid plants (2n=42) increased from one generation to the next. The expression of BYDV tolerance varied from population to population. Additive effects were predominant in F1 and some backcross populations. A dominant effect of rye tolerance genes was also observed in few populations. A monogenic trait or a quantitative (polygenic) character would not agree with the observed segregation patterns. The heritability of this oligogenic tolerance was quite different between populations and in many populations the tolerance genes were only partially expressed. Some transgressive segregation for tolerance and sensitivity was demonstrated. The genes controlling tolerance to RWA in Triticale lines, Muskox 658 and Nord Kivu were not expressed in advanced lines resistant to BYDV. This indicates that tolerance genes for BYDV and RWA in these lines are located on different chromosomes.  相似文献

Knowledge of the extent of phenotypic variability, genetic diversity and the realized breeding progress is central for the optimum design of breeding programmes, but little information is available for triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack). In this study, a collection of 885 diverse European triticale lines was evaluated in multilocation field trials in 2 years. We observed significant genotypic variances and high heritabilities for several agronomic and morphological traits and significant correlations among different traits including grain yield. Based on a subset of the population of 121 varieties registered in Europe between 1983 and 2014, we observed a substantial breeding progress for grain yield with a significant rate of increase of 53 kg/ha or 0.67% per year. All lines were genotyped by a genotyping‐by‐sequencing approach yielding 58 888 polymorphic markers. Our analyses revealed the absence of major population structure but a certain grouping of lines according to their origin. Taken together, our results on triticale germplasm and its breeding history provide important information for breeding programmes and future selection gain in this crop.  相似文献

Summary Pathogenicity of 20 isolates of 12 Fusarium species recovered from triticale seed against seedlings of 14 varieties of winter cereals (triticale, wheat, and rye) was tested. The most pathogenic inoculum was a mixture of isolates (a composite isolate) of all the species. The following species were individually the most pathogenic: F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. sambucinum var. coeruleum, and F. graminearum. Winter triticale was more resistant to seedling blight than rye but more susceptible than wheat. Also reactions of 31 winter and 12 spring varieties of cereals to head inoculation with a composite isolate of 4 Fusarium spp. (F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. graminearum, and F. sambucinum var. coeruleum) was studied. In comparison to other cereals of similar type winter and spring wheat appeared to be the most susceptible while winter rye reaction was comparable to winter triticale. Spring and winter triticale varieties responded to head infection intermediately. There was no significant correlation between seedling and head reactions to infection with Fusarium spp. for winter rye and triticale. For winter wheat a negative trend was found. The above findings imply that screening of cereals at the seedling stage can not be used to predict the resistance to head blight. Nevertheless, resistance at the stage is highly desirable to prevent excessive damage of the crops due to the seedling blight incited by Fusarium spp..  相似文献

Summary Fifteen triticale and wheat-triticale hybrid lines were evaluated for resistance to the take-all fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici and compared with five wheat and two rye lines in inoculated field and pot trials. The triticale and wheat-triticale hybrid lines varied in rye chromosome number and degree of resistance expressed. One line, Venus with seven pairs of rye chromosomes consistently showed levels of resistance intermediate between wheat and rye. A trend was observed where increasing rye chromosome content led to greater resistance but exceptions showed that variation within triticales could not be ascribed to rye chromosome content alone.  相似文献

Summary The reaction of eight triticales and of the respective wheat and rye parental lines to infection by the leaf rust fungi of wheat and rye were studied in the seedling stage. The histological observations indicated that wheat and triticale showed a typical nonhost reaction to the leaf rust of rye: sporelings of this fungus were arrested after the formation of primary infection hyphae and before the formation of extensively branched mycelium, mostly without necrosis of plant cells. The rye inbred lines were all susceptible to the rye leaf rust. The reaction of wheat and triticales to the wheat leaf rust was susceptible or resistant. The reaction of resistant lines could be early or late and complete or incomplete, but was associated with substantial necrosis of plant cells, and therefore entirely different from the nonhost reaction to rye leaf rust. In their reaction to wheat leaf rust the rye lines were similar to the resistant wheat and triticale lines. They did not show an important degree of nonhypersensitive early abortion as would be expected in a nonhost species. It appeared that genes for hypersensitive resistance in triticale may be contributed by either the wheat or the rye parental line.A screening of sixty wheat, rye and triticale lines confirmed the nonhost status of wheat and triticale to rye leaf rust and the hypersensitive or moderately susceptible reaction of rye to wheat leaf rust.  相似文献
