The incidence of primary and secondary glaucoma in dogs was investigated. A total of 1244 dogs received ophthalmologic examinations, including tonometry and gonioscopy. Goniophotographs were taken using a goniolens to evaluate the iridocorneal angle (ICA) as well as pectinate ligament (PL). The anterior width of the ciliary cleft and the total distance from the origin of the PL to the anterior corneal surface were measured from the goniophotographs. Glaucoma was diagnosed based on the cupping of the optic nerve head, clinical signs, ocular changes, and high IOP, and it was synchronized with gonioscopic grades to differentiate between primary and secondary glaucoma. We investigated 1244 dogs of 29 breeds, including the mixed breed; among these, glaucoma was diagnosed in 127 dogs (162 eyes). Of 162 eyes, primary glaucoma was diagnosed in 129 eyes and secondary glaucoma in 33 eyes. Shiba Inu dogs (42 dogs, 33%) showed the highest incidence of glaucoma, followed by Shih-Tzu (21 dogs, 16.5%). Furthermore, all the glaucomatous Shiba Inu dogs had primary glaucoma with abnormal ICA grades and dysplastic PLs. The findings of our study reveal that the Shiba Inu breed in Japan may have a hereditary predisposition to glaucoma.  相似文献

By using ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), the cross-sectional structures of the entire iridocorneal angle (ICA) which are unable to assess with gonioscopic examination were evaluated objectively and quantitatively in live healthy and glaucomatous dogs. The ICAs of normotensive eyes in healthy dogs with normal open angle (NOR), a predisposition to primary closed angle glaucoma (PCAG) (PREDIS) and suffering from unilateral PCAG (UNI), as well as the ICAs of hypertensive eyes with acute and chronic PCAG (ACG and CRG), were assessed. The opening of the ciliary cleft in PREDIS was smaller than that in NOR. In UNI, the opening and area of the ciliary cleft were significantly decreased compared with those of NOR and PREDIS. ACG had widespread structural abnormalities including marked decrease in the ciliary cleft and scleral venous plexus, and a thinner sclera than those in normotensive eyes, whereas the ICA collapsed in CRG with the thinnest sclera. Medical therapy-responsive glaucomatous cases had wider ciliary cleft and scleral venous plexus than unresponsive ones. These findings suggest that the ciliary cleft and scleral venous plexus of the ICA are key structures contributing to not only the pathophysiology of canine glaucoma but also the responsiveness to medical therapy in glaucomatous eyes, and cross-sectional entire structures of the ICA should be evaluated quantitatively with UBM when diagnosing and managing canine glaucoma.  相似文献

The eyes of 80 Bouvier des Flandres dogs without a history of clinical eye disease and 43 glaucomatous eyes out of 35 Bouvier des Flandres dogs were examined for changes in the pectinate ligament. Slight to severe dysplasia of the pectinate ligament occurred in 75% of the normotensive eyes. In glaucomatous eyes, dysplasia was severe and similar to the severity of dysplasia in the most affected normotensive eyes. A high percentage of the Bouvier des Flandres dogs in predisposed to develop glaucoma.  相似文献

Glaucoma is a blinding, painful disease in mammals, including rabbits. This study aimed to determine effects on intraocular pressure (IOP) and iridocorneal angle (ICA) morphology of two antiglaucoma therapies, 0.005% latanoprost (latanoprost) and 0.125% demecarium bromide (demecarium) in companion rabbits. Twenty healthy rabbits of varying breeds and ages were used. All animals received a complete ophthalmic examination including rebound tonometry and gonioscopy, and ICA imaging using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), high-resolution ultrasound, and Scheimpflug imaging (Pentacam® HR). Angle opening distance (AOD) and angle recess area (ARA) were measured. Demecarium was applied to one eye and latanoprost to the contralateral eye. Each eye was re-evaluated 1 hour later with tonometry, imaging, and gonioscopy. Pre- and post-treatment groups were compared with a Wilcoxon signed-ranked test for IOP, ARA, AOD, and gonioscopy score. Estimates of treatment effects were performed to identify clinically significant differences of demecarium and latanoprost on ICA parameters. Latanoprost caused a significant increase in gonioscopy score, ARA, and AOD when measured via SD-OCT whereas demecarium caused a significant decrease in gonioscopy score, ARA, and AOD when measured via SD-OCT and Pentacam® HR. Demecarium significantly increased IOP whereas latanoprost had no effect on IOP. Based on the increased ICA parameters in normal companion rabbits, latanoprost can be considered as a glaucoma medication in rabbits. Demecarium increased IOP and decreased ICA parameters; therefore, its use in rabbits is not recommended.  相似文献

Rescula (0.12% unoprostone isopropyl) is the first docosanoid compound approved for treatment of glaucoma in humans. It is commercially available in Japan, and is undergoing clinical testing elsewhere. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Rescula on intraocular pressure (IOP) in normotensive dogs. After establishing a baseline diurnal IOP curve, six dogs were unilaterally treated with Rescula while the contralateral eye was treated with a placebo. Applanation tonometry was performed in both eyes, and pupil size was evaluated, 30 min after treatment, and at 1-hr intervals for the next 9 hr. Rescula caused a significant (p=0.014) and long-lasting decrease in IOP, from 20.49+/-2.02 mm Hg in control eyes to 15.49+/-0.69 mm Hg in treated eyes. These results suggest that Rescula is potentially efficacious in treatment of canine glaucoma.  相似文献

Consistent with a tentative diagnosis of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL), autofluorescent cytoplasmic storage bodies were found in neurons from the brains of 2 related Shiba Inu dogs with a young‐adult onset, progressive neurodegenerative disease. Unexpectedly, no potentially causal NCL‐related variants were identified in a whole‐genome sequence generated with DNA from 1 of the affected dogs. Instead, the whole‐genome sequence contained a homozygous 3 base pair (bp) deletion in a coding region of HEXB. The other affected dog also was homozygous for this 3‐bp deletion. Mutations in the human HEXB ortholog cause Sandhoff disease, a type of GM2 gangliosidosis. Thin‐layer chromatography confirmed that GM2 ganglioside had accumulated in an affected Shiba Inu brain. Enzymatic analysis confirmed that the GM2 gangliosidosis resulted from a deficiency in the HEXB encoded protein and not from a deficiency in products from HEXA or GM2A, which are known alternative causes of GM2 gangliosidosis. We conclude that the homozygous 3‐bp deletion in HEXB is the likely cause of the Shiba Inu neurodegenerative disease and that whole‐genome sequencing can lead to the early identification of potentially disease‐causing DNA variants thereby refocusing subsequent diagnostic analyses toward confirming or refuting candidate variant causality.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of a novel, professionally manufactured, frontal sinus valved glaucoma shunt in maintaining normal intraocular pressure (IOP) and vision in dogs with primary glaucoma. METHODS: Three eyes of three dogs diagnosed with primary glaucoma were included in this prospective clinical study. A Cullen frontal sinus valved glaucoma shunt was implanted into each glaucomatous globe. Dogs were treated postoperatively with topical neomycin/polymyxin B/0.1% dexamethasone and 0.03% flurbiprofen every 6 h tapered over 8-12 weeks, and meloxicam at 0.1 mg/kg orally every 24 h for 7-10 days. IOP, intracameral shunt position and apparent patency, and vision were assessed twice daily for up to 4 (n= 3 eyes) and 10 (n= 2 eyes) days postoperatively, and then at re-examination periods of up to 36 weeks (n= 1 eye). Postoperative complications were recorded and documented photographically. RESULTS: Normal IOP was maintained in all shunted globes (range 10-29 mmHg; mean = 16.7 mmHg at 24 h; IOP = 23 mmHg at 36 weeks) postoperatively for 2 days (3/3 eyes), 8 weeks (2/2 eyes), and 36 weeks (1/1 eye) without additional antiglaucoma therapies. Photopic vision and shunt position and patency were maintained in all shunted globes for all follow-up periods. Postoperative complications included mild aqueous flare and fibrin (n= 3 eyes for 3-10 days postoperatively); intracameral shunt occlusion with fibrin (n= 1 eye at days 2 and 4); partial anterior chamber tube extrusion (n= 1 eye at day 4), and focal corneal edema (n= 1 eye at 18 weeks). Tissue plasminogen activator injected intracamerally through the silicone tube near the frontal sinus effectively resolved the fibrinous shunt occlusion. CONCLUSIONS: The Cullen frontal sinus valved glaucoma shunt shows promise for the management of canine primary glaucoma.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the combined diode laser cycloablation procedure and adjunctive Ahmed gonioimplant use in dogs with primary glaucoma. DESIGN: Retrospective study. ANIMALS: 48 dogs, 51 eyes with primary glaucoma. PROCEDURE: Medical records from two large private clinical ophthalmology services were reviewed. Signalment, duration of glaucoma, gonioscopic evaluation, laser power and duration settings, immediate postoperative and final intraocular pressure and visual results, short and long-term visual outcome, and surgical complications were recorded. RESULTS: The age range of affected dogs was 3.0-14.0 years, with a mean age of 7.5 +/- 2.6 years. Eleven pure breeds were represented, with the most common being the American Cocker Spaniel. The sex distribution was 22 neutered males, 1 intact male, 23 spayed females, and 2 intact female dogs. The right eye was affected in 33 cases, and the left eye in 18 cases. The average total joules, which was administered with the diode laser, was 109.6 +/- 23.6 J. Immediate surgical complications included fibrin formation in the anterior chamber (15), corneal ulcers (4), hyphema (7), and focal retinal detachment (1). Long-term complications included cataract formation (8 total, 2 of which were significant, vision-threatening), elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) (6), unstable gonioimplant (1), and glaucoma recurrence (14). Additional surgeries performed on the eyes over the course of study included: intrascleral prosthesis (4), enucleation (1), resection of fibrotic scar tissue (5), and repeat laser cycloablation (8). The dogs were examined for a mean follow-up time of 17.6 months (range: 2-83 months postoperatively). Twenty-nine cases were followed greater than one year. Vision was maintained in 42/51 eyes (82%) in the immediate short-term of this study. In all cases included in the study, good control of IOP was achieved in 39/51 (76%) of eyes, and IOP was poor or uncontrolled in 12/51 (24%) of eyes. Twenty out of 41 eyes (49%) maintained fair to excellent vision six months after surgery. Twelve months postoperative observations demonstrated that 12/29 (41%) of the eyes were still visual. CONCLUSIONS: In primary glaucoma, the combined procedure of laser diode cyclophotocoagulation and Ahmed valve implant was associated with return or maintenance of vision in 42/51 eyes (82%) in the immediate short-term of this study, and a long-term IOP control in 39/51 (76%) of the cases, with 12/29 eyes (41%) visual after 12 months.  相似文献

We investigated the epidemiological characteristics of intervertebral disc herniation (IVDH) in Japan in a large population using a retrospective study. The sample population was dogs (n=297) with IVDH in Japan. Medical records were reviewed for breed, sex, age, affected interspace and neurological severity. The dogs were comprised of 132 cases of cervical IVDH (C-IVDH) and 165 cases of thoracolumbar IVDH (TL-IVDH). In Japan, the Dachshund, Beagle and Shih Tzu tended to suffer from both C-IVDH and TL-IVDH. The Shiba Inu, a characteristic Japanese dog breed, suffered from both C-IVDH and TL-IVDH, although there was little data relating to the whole breed. Male dogs tended to suffer from C-IVDH and TL-IVDH at a rate almost twice that of females in Japan. Among the three predominant dog breeds, the Dachshund, Beagle and Shih Tzu, the Dachshund tended to suffer from both C-IVDH and TL-IVDH at an earlier age than the Beagle, and the Beagle tended to suffer from both C-IVDH and TL-IVDH earlier than the Shih Tzu. Among the three predominant breeds, the Shih Tzu, in particular, tended to suffer from both C-IVDH and TL-IVDH at multiple sites. Our data from Japan were in partial agreement with previous data from the U.S.A., and epidemiological characteristics of IVDH peculiar to Japan were also identified.  相似文献

A 6-month-old Shiba Inu dog was brought to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital because of a cough, exercise intolerance, and pulmonary edema. The dog had a Levine 2/6 systolic murmur. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed left atrial and ventricular dilatation (left atrium to aortic ratio: 2.8), mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation, and severe left ventricular myocardial hypokinesia (fractional shortening was 11.8%). Bubble contrast echocardiography did not reveal a congenital shunt; therefore, the dog was clinically diagnosed with early onset dilated cardiomyopathy. From the first visit, the dog was treated with pimobendan, taurine, torasemide, and isosorbide dinitrate. After 435 days, echocardiography revealed that systolic function had not improved. On Day 465, atrial fibrillation was confirmed via electrocardiogram, and treatment with diltiazem hydrochloride was initiated. The dog continued to appear clinically stable thereafter, until it died suddenly 1087 days after the initial visit. A postmortem histopathological examination identified severe enlargement of the left atrial and ventricular chambers as well as attenuated wavy fibers in the ventricular myocardium, which confirmed dilated cardiomyopathy in a juvenile. This is the first report of a juvenile form of dilated cardiomyopathy in a Shiba Inu dog. This case report provides evidence that the extended prognosis of this dog differed from that in previously reported cases of dilated cardiomyopathy in young dogs.Key clinical message:This is the first reported case of a juvenile form of dilated cardiomyopathy in a Shiba Inu dog. OBJECTIVE: To examine postoperative ocular hypertension (POH) and other variables as predictors of the risk of developing glaucoma after cataract surgery in dogs. DESIGN: Retrospective study. ANIMALS: 220 dogs that had cataract surgery. PROCEDURE: Medical records of 220 dogs (346 eyes) that had extracapsular cataract removal or phacoemulsification of cataracts were reviewed. With respect to glaucoma development, 8 variables were analyzed, which included development of POH, breed, sex, age at time of surgery, eye (right vs left), phacoemulsification time, intraocular lens (IOL) placement (yes or no), and stage of cataract development. Eyes developed glaucoma within 6 or 12 months of surgery or did not have signs of glaucoma at least 6 or 12 months after cataract surgery. RESULTS: Of 346 eyes, 58 (16.8%) developed glaucoma after surgery. At 6 months, 32 of 206 (15.5%) eyes examined had glaucoma; at 12 months, 44 of 153 (28.8%) eyes examined had glaucoma. Median follow-up time was 5.8 months (range, 0.1 to 48 months). Mixed-breed dogs were at a significantly lower risk for glaucoma, compared with other breeds. Eyes with IOL placement were at a significantly lower risk for glaucoma, compared with eyes without IOL placement. Eyes with hypermature cataracts were at a significantly higher risk for glaucoma, compared with eyes with mature or immature cataracts. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Multiple factors appear to contribute to the onset of glaucoma in dogs after cataract surgery. Complications prohibiting IOL placement during cataract surgery may lead to a high risk of glaucoma development.  相似文献

The iridocorneal angle of the left eye was investigated in 203 Samoyeds. Comparison was made of judgements of the width of the anterior opening of the ciliary cleft when performing gonioscopy with an objective method of estimation based on measurements on goniophotographs. Results indicated high degree of correlation. Various degrees of narrowness of the iridocorneal angle width were revealed and clinical glaucoma with total-angle closure was found in 6 of 203 dogs. The intraocular pressure was significantly (P less than 0.01) higher in eyes with closed iridocorneal angles than in eyes with any other width of the angle. Appearance of the structures of the iridocorneal angle, particularly the pigment bands, indicated extensive individual variation. In approximately 25% of the eyes, dysplasia of the pectinate ligaments of variable degree existed, indicating that this anomaly is common in the Samoyed breed. Significant difference was not evident in intraocular pressure in eyes with different degrees of dysplasia of the pectinate ligaments.  相似文献

Neodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser energy was transsclerally applied to the ciliary body of 56 eyes of 37 dogs for treatment of glaucoma. Forty-four eyes were glucomatous at the time of treatment, and 12 normotensive eyes with ciliary cleft closure were treated prophylactically. Glaucoma was primary in 35 dogs and secondary in 2 dogs (1 eye in each dog). Energy was delivered by a general surgical Nd:YAG laser via a hand-held, 600-muc-diameter flexible quartz fiber. The mean (+/- SD) number of spots treated per eye was 35 (+/- 9.7), with mean energy per burst of 7.1 (+/- 2.6) J; mean total energy delivered to the eyes was 228 (+/- 81) J. Follow-up evaluation was available for 42 eyes from 2 to 4 weeks after treatment, and for 32 eyes from 12 to 24 weeks after treatment. Treatment success, defined as maintenance of intraocular pressure less than 25 mm of Hg, was achieved in 83% (20/24) of glaucomatous eyes evaluated between 12 and 24 weeks of treatment. Of 4 treatment failures, 3 were eyes devoid of uveal pigment. The consistent acute effects of treatment were conjunctival vascular congestion and blood-aqueous barrier disruption, recognized clinically by the presence of aqueous flare. Hyphema developed in 16% (9/56) of eyes; hyphema resolved without complication in all but 2 eyes. A common long-term complication of treatment was cataract formation, recognized in 37% (12/32) of eyes evaluated at 12 to 24 weeks. Cataracts were sufficiently dense to obstruct vision in 4 eyes. Phthisis bulbi was observed in 1 eye.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: The blood flow of the neuroretinal rim (NRR) of the optic nerve head (ONH) of the rhesus monkey with laser-induced glaucoma was examined. METHODS: Argon laser photocoagulation of the trabecular meshwork to induce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) was performed in one eye of nine normal male rhesus monkeys. The nasal and temporal NRR of the monkey ONH were examined by the Heidelberg retina tomograph/flowmeter (HRT/HRF) under neuromuscular blockade. A mixed effect analysis of variance was used to determine significant differences between eyes and between locations in the eyes. RESULTS: The average IOP in the hypertensive glaucoma and normal eyes was 34.8 +/- 7.2 and 16.0 +/- 1.9 mmHg, respectively. The HRT determined average overall cup to disc (C/D) area ratio in the glaucoma and normal eyes, which was 0.49 +/- 0.28 and 0.22 +/- 0.16, respectively. The mean temporal NRR HRF flow in the hypertensive eyes was significantly greater than in the normotensive eyes (P < 0.0001), than in the nasal NRR of the hypertensive eyes (P < 0.0001) and than in the nasal NRR of the normotensive eyes (P < 0.01). The mean nasal NRR HRF flow in the hypertensive eyes was significantly less than in the nasal NRR of the normotensive eyes (P < 0.01). There was no statistical difference between the mean HRF flow of the temporal and nasal NRR of the normotensive eyes. The elevated IOP positively influenced the flow values in the hypertensive eye (r = 0.724). CONCLUSIONS: The capillary microcirculation of the temporal NRR of the rhesus monkey ONH with laser-induced glaucoma has significantly increased blood flow, and the nasal NRR significantly reduced blood flow compared to blood flow in the NRR of normal normotensive monkey eyes.  相似文献

Bacteria were isolated 68% of the time from the conjunctival sacs of 120 dogs with conjunctivitis, blepharitis, dacryocystitis, or corneal ulcerations. Coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequently isolated organism (68%); when both eyes were affected, S aureus was recovered from 29% of the dogs; and in dogs with 1 eye affected, S aureus was isolated from 23% of the affected eyes and in 18% of the nonaffected eyes. Other organisms recovered from eyes were coagulase-negative Staphylococcus epidermidis (27%), beta-hemolytic streptococcus (19%), alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus (17%), Escherichia coli (10%), Bacillus spp (11%), and Proteus spp (7%). It was concluded that S aureus may appear as a primary pathogen in ocular disease. When 1 eye is clinically affected, S aureus can be a potential invader of the normal eye.  相似文献

Molecular screening of GM1 gangliosidosis in Shiba dogs was carried out in northern Japan using blood smear specimens after prolonged storage. Of 125 specimens obtained from 3 veterinary teaching hospitals for this screening, 68 specimens (54%) were adequate for direct amplification in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based DNA test, and the percentage of adequacy was different at each hospital (34%, 73%, and 100%), suggesting that the amount of blood on the smear and the storage condition of specimens may affect adequacy. Of the 68 dogs examined, 2 dogs (2.9%) were heterozygous carriers for this disease and the other dogs were all genotypically normal. The results suggest blood smear specimens can be useful for PCR testing after prolonged storage provided specimens contain a generous amount of blood and have been adequately stored. The study also suggests that GM1 gangliosidosis may be widely prevalent in the Shiba dog population in northern Japan.  相似文献

Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate if tonometry and gonioscopy could serve as predictors of later glaucoma development in the English Springer Spaniel, a breed prone to developing primary glaucoma. Animals studied Gonioscopy was performed on 279 English Springer Spaniel dogs, 119 males and 160 females, with clinically normal eyes. In addition, 14 dogs, five males and nine females were examined for glaucoma. Results A positive relation between pectinate ligament dysplasia (PLD) and narrowing of the relative width of the ciliary cleft (RWOCC) and also between PLD, RWOCC and age was demonstrated. The prevalence of PLD was 25.5%, which is higher than in other breeds reported. A positive association was demonstrated between PLD and glaucoma, as well as between narrowing of the RWOCC and glaucoma. Glaucoma was not observed in dogs with normal appearance of the iridocorneal angle. English Springer Spaniels related to dogs with glaucoma show more narrowing of the RWOCC and more PLD than unrelated dogs. Conclusion This study demonstrates the positive association between PLD and glaucoma, between narrowing of the iridocorneal angle and glaucoma and the effect of age on the iridocorneal angle. Mating of dogs with normal iridocorneal angles appears to reduce the presence and degree of abnormal appearance of the iridocorneal angle in the offspring. However, breeding only dogs with normal iridocorneal angles without consideration of their relationship to dogs with glaucoma is not a guarantee for preventing glaucoma in the offspring.  相似文献

Effects of topical administration of a single dose of timolol maleate on intraocular pressure (IOP) and pupil diameter were evaluated in normotensive eyes of 11 clinically normal dogs over 12 hours (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM). Mean (+/- SEM) normal IOP was 15.5 (+/- 1.1) mm of Hg and diurnal fluctuation was observed, with the highest IOP seen in the morning. Mean normal pupil diameter was 8.5 (+/- 0.3) mm. Topical treatment with 0.5% timolol resulted in reduction of IOP in the treated and nontreated eyes. Mean reduction of IOP in the treated eye was 2.5 mm of Hg, a reduction of 16.1%, with maximal reduction of 3.7 mm of Hg. Mean reduction of IOP in the nontreated eye was 1.4 mm of Hg, a reduction of 9.0%. The treated eye had reduced pupil diameter at 30 minutes after treatment, which persisted throughout the 12 hours of the study. Mean reduction of pupil diameter in the treated eye was 2.9 mm, a reduction of 34.1%. In addition, a contralateral effect on pupil diameter was seen in the nontreated eye, with mean reduction of 1.2 mm, a reduction of 14.1%. Topical administration of timolol maleate resulted in reduction of IOP and pupil diameter in treated and contralateral eyes, thus supporting the use of timolol for treatment of glaucoma in dogs. Miosis indicates possible beta-adrenergic inhibition or alpha-adrenergic activation of the sphincter muscle. beta-Adrenergic blockade would then result in miosis.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To document the presenting ocular signs and the clinical course of Golden Retriever dogs with a progressive anterior uveitis, often associated with the histologic presence of iridociliary cysts. Animals studied Seventy-five Golden Retriever dogs (142 affected eyes) referred to a private practice referral ophthalmology clinic between 1994 and 1999. Procedures Complete ophthalmic evaluation with slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, applanation tonometry, and gonioscopy. Hematology, serum biochemical evaluations, and serologic titers for endemic infectious agents were also used in selected cases. RESULTS: The age range of affected dogs was 4.5-14.5 years, with a mean age of 8.6 +/- 2.1 years. The majority of the dogs (n = 66) were affected in both eyes at first presentation. The sex distribution included 4 intact males, 32 neutered males, and 39 spayed females. Hematology, serum biochemical evaluations, and serologic titers for endemic infectious agents failed to demonstrate any underlying disorder. The ophthalmic hallmark of this syndrome was the appearance of pigment on the anterior lens capsule, often in a radial orientation. This capsular pigment was seen both with and without associated uveal cysts. Although single to multiple iridociliary cysts were noted clinically in only 13.3% of the cases, cysts were common on histopathology of advanced glaucomatous, blind eyes. Fibrin was observed in the anterior chamber of 37% of the cases, and often was a precursor for glaucoma. Cataract formation (37%) and glaucoma (46%) were frequent sequelae to the uveitis. Posterior synechiae formation occurred in 50% of the cases. Histopathologic analysis of four enucleated eyes and the eviscerated specimens from 14 glaucomatous eyes demonstrated thin-walled iridociliary epithelial cysts in 3/4 and 12/14 cases, respectively. Microscopically, little to no uveal inflammatory infiltration was commonly noted. Conclusion The overall prognosis for this progressive uveitis in Golden Retriever dogs is guarded, with 46% of the eyes becoming blind due to glaucoma. Iridociliary cysts in Golden Retriever dogs may lead to the development of glaucoma in this breed.  相似文献

An Ahmed valve implantation with an Ologen® Collagen Matrix (Ologen® CM, Aeon Astron, Leiden, the Netherlands) was performed for the treatment of uncontrolled glaucoma in a cat. This cat was a 5‐year‐old castrated Russian Blue male with a 12‐week history of conjunctival hyperemia and mydriasis of the left eye. During the ophthalmic examination, the intraocular pressure (IOP) oculus sinister (OS) was 52 mmHg, and a narrow iridocorneal angle (ICA) was detected by gonioscopy. Medical treatment with Cosopt® (2% dorzolamide and 0.5% timolol) failed to decrease the IOP. The left eye still had vision, and an Ahmed valve implantation was performed. During the gonioimplantation, Ologen® CM was used to inhibit scar formation around the valve. Following the operation, the IOP was stable at an approximate average of 15 mmHg during the 7‐month follow‐up period, and vision in the left eye was retained without medication. An adequate subconjunctival filtering bleb was formed after 140 days. This is the first case report in which an Ahmed valve gonioimplant with an Ologen® CM has been used for the surgical treatment of glaucoma in a cat.  相似文献
