1. The aim of this study was to evaluate various levels of Satureja khuzistanica essential oil (SKEO) on performance and physiological parameters of broilers fed on wheat- or maize-based diets.

2. Treatments consisted of two cereals (maize- or wheat-based diets) and three levels of SKEO)0, 250 and 500 mg/kg).

3. Feed intake (FI) and body weight gain (BWG) decreased in broilers fed on the wheat-based diets compared to the control diet. Dietary supplementation of 500 mg/kg SKEO increased FI and BWG. Dietary SKEO supplementation was effective in improving FI and BWG only in wheat-based diets and was effective in improving feed conversion ratio (FCR) in both diets.

4. Dietary supplementation of 500 mg/kg SKEO caused a significant decrease in plasma cholesterol and triglycerides. Also, plasma low-density lipoprotein concentration was decreased in broilers fed on 250 and 500 mg/kg of SKEO. Plasma cholesterol levels in birds fed on the wheat-based diets were lower than in those fed on maize-based diets.

5. Dietary supplementation of 500 mg/kg SKEO increased caecal population of Lactobacillus and reduced total bacterial and Escherichia coli count. Caecal population of Lactobacillus decreased in broilers fed on the wheat-based diets.

6. Digesta viscosity was increased in broilers fed on the wheat-based diets and decreased in broilers fed on 500 mg/kg SKEO compared to the control diet. Dietary SKEO supplementation was effective in reducing digesta viscosity values only in wheat-based diets.

7. Villus height of the duodenum and jejunum decreased in broilers fed on the wheat-based diets. Dietary supplementation of 500 mg/kg SKEO increased villus height and villus height-to-crypt depth ratios and decreased crypt depth of the duodenum compared to the control diet.

8. It can be concluded that dietary SKEO supplementation was effective in improving FI, BWG and FCR values in wheat-based diets.  相似文献

1. objective of the present study was to estimate heritability for hatch weight (HW), body weight at 90 (W90) and 180 (W180) d of age in Brazilian ostriches.

2. The heritability estimates were obtained through the restricted maximum likelihood method for an animal model. Least squares method was used to define possible fixed effects for consideration in the analysis model.

3. The estimates of heritability were 0.42 ± 0.05, 0.16 ± 0.04 and 0.24 ± 0.08 for HW, W90 and W180, respectively.

4. Heritability estimates showed that there are sufficient levels of additive genetic variation present in the traits studied, and these traits may respond to selection.  相似文献

1. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary β-glucan and kefir (a fermented milk product) on growth performance, blood profiles, relative organ weight and meat quality in broilers.

2. A total of 375 day-of-hatch mixed sex ROSS 308 broilers (BW of 46 ± 0.1 g) were used in a 5-week experiment and randomly allotted to one of the following dietary treatments: (1) NC, basal diet; (2) PC, basal diet + 40 mg/kg of avilamycin; (3) B, NC + 0.1% β-glucan; (4) K, NC + 0.1% kefir; (5) BK, NC + 0.1% β-glucan + 0.1% kefir.

3. During weeks 0–3, broilers in B, K and BK treatments had higher body weight gain (BWG) than those in NC treatment. During weeks 4–5, BK treatment had a higher BWG than NC treatment. Overall, broilers given PC, K and BK diets had higher BWG than those given NC diet. The feed efficiency ratio (FCR) was improved by PC treatment.

4. Relative liver weight was increased by B treatment, whereas the relative weight of breast meat and gizzard was higher in BK group than that in NC group. Broilers given PC, B and BK diets had greater breast meat redness value and reduced drip loss at d 5 and d 7. The cooking loss was also reduced by B and BK treatments compared with NC treatment.

5. In conclusion, the results suggested that inclusion of 0.1% β-glucan and 0.1% kefir, either individually or combined, would improve growth performance and benefit meat quality in broiler chickens.  相似文献

1. This study was conducted to determine the effects of different dietary fat sources on growth performance, tibia fatty acids and biomarkers of bone metabolism in broilers.

2. One-d-old commercial Arbor Acres broilers were fed with a maize–soya bean basal diet for 42 d, supplemented with oils according to the following 5 treatments: lard (lard group); linseed oil (linseed oil group); palm oil (palm oil group); linseed oil + palm oil (60:40 or 40:60 w/w, LP-1 group and LP-2 group, respectively).

3. No significant differences in weight gain, feed intake and gain/feed ratio were observed between the lard and linseed oil groups. Birds fed on palm oil had significantly greater weight gain and feed intake than those fed on lard or linseed oil. Growth performance in LP-1 and LP-2 was significantly greater than that of single-oil groups.

4. Tibia growth and bone characteristics were not influenced by supplementation with lard, linseed oil, or palm oil alone, but broilers fed on a mixture of fats had significantly greater tibia weight and length compared to broilers fed on linseed oil. Bone mineral density in tibia was significantly increased in LP-1 and LP-2 groups.

5. Supplementation of linseed oil alone or in combination with palm oil enhanced apparent digestibility of calcium, reduced serum calcium and increased tibia calcium concentrations. Moreover, supplementation with linseed oil alone or in combination with palm oil had a positive effect on biomarkers of bone growth.

6. The combination of linseed and palm oils was beneficial for growth performance, tibia growth and biomarkers of bone metabolism.  相似文献

1. The possibility that infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) variants isolated from broilers with enteric and respiratory problems have a different tropism and pathological outcome from those IBV strains causing classical respiratory disease was investigated.

2. IBV variants were isolated from broiler flocks with enteric and respiratory problems in two regions of Brazil. The USP-10 isolate, of enteric origin, was inoculated via the oral oroculonasal routes into IBV-antibody-free broilers and specific pathogen-free (SPF) chickens to determine tissue tropism and pathogenicity and compared with an IBV variant (USP-50) isolated from chickens showing signs of respiratory disease only.

3. Both USP-10 and USP-50 strains caused similar pathological patterns by either route of inoculation. Both variants were detected in respiratory and non-respiratory tissues, including the kidney, intestine and testis.

4. Broilers were more susceptible to infection than SPF chickens, and seroconversion was detected in all of the chicks.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of taurine on growth performance, meat quality, oxidative status and muscle taurine content in broilers. In Experiment 1, 50 one-day-old male Cobb chicks were given a diet supplemented with 0, 0.125, 0.50, 2.00 or 8.00 g/kg taurine from 1 to 42 d of age. In Experiment 2, 80 22-d-old male Cobb chicks were given a diet supplemented with 4.00 g/kg taurine for 0, 1, 2 or 3 weeks.

2. Taurine contents of thigh and breast muscle increased linearly with increasing dietary taurine.

3. Taurine supplementation for 1, 2 and 3 weeks significantly increased the taurine content of breast muscle. The taurine contents of liver and thigh meat were significantly increased by taurine supplementation for 3 weeks. The taurine contents of thigh and breast meat from broilers given a diet supplemented with 4 g/kg taurine for 3 weeks increased to 1.89 times the concentrations of the control group.

4. There were no detrimental effects on growth performance, breast or thigh muscle yield, pH value or drip-water loss, and taurine supplementation did not affect the serum carbonyl content.

5. Serum malondialdehyde concentration was significantly decreased by taurine supplementation for 1, 2 or 3 weeks.  相似文献

1. AT-402 (20 g/kg), a proprietary blend of Aloe ferox leaf extract and calcium bentonite, had no adverse effect on poult body weights at 3 weeks of age.

2. Lower body weights and lower feed consumption were observed in 4-week-old poults given 10 and 20 g/kg of AT-402 compared to poults given 0 or 5 g/kg.

3. Floor-reared poults, given either 5 or 10 g/kg AT-402 to 4 weeks of age, were significantly heavier than controls (0 g/kg AT-402), and feed conversion ratios for AT-402 given poults were improved.

4. Xylose uptake in 5 g/kg AT-402-fed poults was significantly greater than in poults given AT-402 at 0 and 10 g/kg, reflecting increased body weights of 5 g/kg AT-402-fed poults.

5. Delayed access by poults to the AT-402 until 10 d of age also improved 4-week body weights, suggesting that the AT-402 might improve performance as soon as it is given.

6. AT-402 at 5 g/kg was most efficacious as demonstrated by improved body weights and feed conversions.  相似文献

1. Research focused on lower light intensity levels is required to set minimum standards appropriate for production and welfare of intensively housed broilers. The objective of this research was to study light intensity (0.1 to 10 lx) effects on Ross × Ross 308 and 708 genotypes.

2. Three experiments (35 d each) using 18 720 broilers were conducted with the initial experiment using two replicates of 0.1, 1, 5 and 10 lx. The second and third experiments examined 0.5, 1, 5 and 10 lx with treatments replicated twice in each experiment in a randomised complete block design with experiment acting as a block. In each experiment, mixed sex broilers from each genotype were housed in 6 equally sized pens per room.

3. In Experiment 1, the introduction of 0.1 lx at d 7 caused high levels of mortality and poor growth rate from d 7 to 14 and was discontinued.

4. In Experiments 2 and 3, increasing light intensity increased body weight gain (0–35 d) and feed intake (0–35 d) in a quadratic and linear fashion, respectively. Similarly, mortality corrected gain to feed ratio (FCR, 0–35 d) demonstrated a quadratic response with a maximum at 5 lx. Carcass, breast meat and skin, abdominal fat and drum skin, as a percentage of live weight, increased while drum bone and wing yield decreased in a linear fashion with increasing light intensity. Total carcass composition was unaffected by light intensity.

5. Genotype effects were numerous. No interactions were found between genotype and light intensity.

6. Ocular dimensions and the incidence of foot pad lesions decreased in a quadratic and linear fashion, respectively, with increasing light intensity. In contrast, welfare-associated gait score and mortality levels were not affected by light intensity.

7. It was concluded that performance, breast meat yield and bird welfare improved with increasing light intensity. The data support 5 lx as a minimum light intensity in broiler production.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were performed to study the supplementation of valine, isoleucine, arginine and glycine (Val, Ile, Arg, Gly) in low-protein diets for broiler chickens in the starter (1–21 d; Exp. 1) and grower (22–42 d; Exp. 2) phases.

2. A low-crude protein (CP) diet was formulated to meet the requirements of all amino acids (AA) supplied by the control diet except for Val, Ile, Arg and Gly. The other experimental diets were obtained by the isolated or combined supplementation of the studied AA in the low-CP diet.

3. Growth, serum parameters and litter characteristics were taken in both of the experiments. Carcass measurements were taken in Experiment 2.

4. In the starter and grower phases, low-CP diets without supplementation resulted in birds with a poorer weight gain and feed conversion than those of the birds that received the control diet.

5. In the starter phase, individual supplementation with Val and Gly, but not Ile and Arg, restored the weight gain of the birds, while diets with the addition of Val + Gly, Val + Ile + Arg, Val + Ile + Gly and Val + Ile + Arg + Gly restored their feed conversion.

6. In the grower phase, weight gain was re-established at the same rate as the control diet for the diets supplemented with Val + Ile, Val + Ile + Arg, Val + Ile + Gly and Val + Ile + Arg + Gly. However, the feed conversion was restored only in birds that received the diet supplemented with all studied AA.

7. The supplementation of Val and Gly in low-CP diets was sufficient to avoid adverse effects in the performance and serum parameters of broilers in the starter phase. However, birds in the grower phase required the combined supplementation of Val, Ile, Arg and Gly, to prevent compromised performance.  相似文献

1. A trial was conducted to study the effect of Melissa officinalis supplementation on organic broiler performance and meat chemical, microbiological, sensory and nutritional quality.

2. Male and female day-old Ross 308 chicks were fed on a standard commercial diet containing 0, 2.5, 5 or 10 g/kg feed ground M. officinalis for 84 d before slaughter.

3. Weight gain and feed conversion ratio were significantly improved in the broilers receiving either 5 or 10 mg M. officinalis/kg feed.

4. Inclusion of M. officinalis did not affect muscle chemical and fatty acid composition.

5. On the basis of microbiological and sensory experimental data and subsequent extension of meat shelf life, M. officinalis did not reduce the microbial populations of the meat, but was effective in limiting lipid oxidation.  相似文献

1. Four experimental diets containing 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% fermented pomegranate by-products (FPB) were supplied to 320d-old broilers to evaluate the effects of FPB on growth performance, nutritional composition, fatty acid profile and oxidative stability of meat.

2. Dietary supplementation of FPB linearly increased the weight gain and feed intake of broilers with linear reduction in feed conversion ratio.

3. The crude protein, iron, magnesium, and sodium content were linearly higher, whereas cholesterol was linearly lower in the breast meat of FPB-supplemented broilers. In thigh meat, linearly lower ether extract and cholesterol with higher moisture was noted in response to increasing levels of FPB.

4. The proportion of saturated fatty acids was both linearly and quadratically lower in breast and thigh meat, whereas those of monounsaturated fatty acids of breast (linear and quadratic) and n-3 fatty acids of breast and thigh (linear) meat was higher in the FPB-supplemented broilers. The n-6/n-3 ratio of breast meat was linearly lower in response to FPB supplementation. The hypocholesterolaemic to hypercholesterolaemic ratio of thigh meat was higher in the FPB-supplemented groups.

5. The thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and pH value were lower in the breast and thigh meat of FPB-supplemented broilers.

6. Thus, additive supplementation of the diet with up to 2% FPB improved the nutritional quality, fatty acid profile and shelf life of broiler meat.  相似文献

1. This study investigated the effect of incubation type and production system on geese growth traits.

2. A total of 216 geese were either naturally (114) or artificially (102) hatched and reared in intensive or free-range production systems (4 replicates each) until 18 weeks of age.

3. Weights of naturally hatched goslings (NHG) were significantly higher than artificially hatched goslings (AHG) at 2 weeks (644 vs. 536 g); however, weights of AHG were significantly higher than NHG at both 6 weeks (3245 vs. 3010 g) and 18 weeks (5212 vs. 4353 g).

4. AHG had better feed conversion ratios (FCRs) than NHG (6.21 vs. 6.46 at 18 weeks). Feed consumption of naturally hatched geese was found higher in first 4 weeks when compared to artificially hatched geese and artificially hatched geese consumed more feed than naturally hatched geese after 8 weeks.

5. Production system had insignificant effects on feed consumption, FCRs, viability and mutilation rates.

6. Slipped wings were more frequent in NHG than AHG (8.32% vs. 1.68% at 6 weeks; 23.84% vs. 5.12% between 7 and 18 weeks) and in free-range production when compared to intensive production (17.88% vs. 11.08% over the course of the production period).

7. The study results indicate that both artificially and NHG can be reared in free-range production systems without any loss in performance and in deference to animal welfare.  相似文献

1. In two experiments, two setters and hatchers, with a capacity of 42 240 eggs each, were used to investigate the effect of low-intensity, short-duration thermal stimuli during the late phase of incubation on hatchability, sex ratio and grow-out performance of broilers under field conditions.

2. Eggs in the test group had the same physical environment as eggs in the control group except that incubation temperature was increased by 0.5°C for 2 h/d above the control group from 18 to 20 d of incubation.

3. Thermal stimulation significantly increased the proportion of males hatched in both experiments. In experiment 2, evaluation at 7 d of age showed that the proportion of males in the test group was still significantly higher than in the control group.

4. In experiment 2, hatch residue was examined and the proportion of unhatched male embryos was significantly greater in the control group than in the test group.

5. Thermal stimulation did not have a significant influence on post-hatch performance of broiler chickens to market age.

6. The results demonstrated that thermal stimulation of 0.5°C for 2 h/d above the control during late incubation shifted the sex ratio at hatch and at 7 d in favour of males. The difference in secondary sex ratio was due to increased survival of male embryos in the test group.  相似文献

1. Genetic adaptation was investigated in broilers selected for seven generations on a normal (A) or a low (B) protein diet.

2. Protein and energy metabolism were studied in males from these selected lines fed on a diet of intermediate protein content.

3. All selected birds retained more nitrogen than those studied 10 years previously.

4. There was no difference in nitrogen retention between groups, although relative growth rate of group B birds was higher.

5. Heat productions relative to gross energy intake were 0.38 (group B) and 045 (group A). Energy retentions relative to gross energy intake were 0.39 (group B) and 0.35 (group A); the difference being primarily due to higher fat retention in group B.

6. Using a common maintenance requirement for metabolisable energy, group B utilised metabolisable energy for growth (0.78) better than did group A (0.71).

7. At 53 d of age plasma glucose (10%) and insulin (50%) were higher in group B than in group A.  相似文献

1. Corni fructus is the fruit of Cornus officinalis, a dogwood species. This study was conducted to prepare fermented corni fructus preparation (FCFP) and fermented kelp (FK) from corni fructus and by-products of Laminaria japonica fermented with Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus oryzae.

2. The effects of dietary FCFP and FK as replacer of oxytetracycline (OTC) on growth performance, meat composition, meat oxidative stability, and emissions of ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S) from broiler chicken droppings were investigated.

3. A total of 140 d-old broiler chicks were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments including control, OTC (0.05 g/kg), FCFP (5 g/kg), and FK (5 g/kg).

4. Overall, inclusion of FCFP resulted in lower weight gain and feed intake during the overall experimental period. Broilers fed FCFP diets tended to have lower crude fat and higher crude ash content in the carcasses.

5. In the fresh state, the malondialdehyde (MDA) value of broiler meat was lower in the FK supplemented group. At one week, meat from broilers fed antibiotic and FK diets had lower MDA values, whereas at 2 weeks broiler meat from all dietary treatment groups had lower MDA values than the control.

6. Dietary supplementation with FK significantly reduced faecal NH3 emissions throughout the experimental period, whereas dietary OTC and FCFP supplementation increased NH3 emissions at 2 and 4 weeks. There were no significant effects of dietary treatments on H2S emissions throughout the experimental period, except during week one, when FCFP supplementation reduced the emission.

7. In conclusion, dietary supplementation with 5 g/kg FK improved the oxidative stability of broiler meat and reduce faecal NH3 emissions without affecting growth performance.  相似文献

1. The effect of different levels of dietary iron on phytase activity and its subsequent effect on broiler performance were investigated in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement. A total of 360 day-old Ross 308 male broiler chicks were distributed to 6 experimental diets, formulated with three levels of Fe (60, 80 and 100 mg/kg) and two levels of phytase (0 and 500 FTU/kg).

2. Phytase supplemented to mid-Fe diets increased feed consumption more than the non-supplemented diet at d 24. From hatch to d 35, Fe × phytase interaction significantly influenced the feed intake (FI), body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The high-Fe diet supplemented with phytase significantly reduced FI and BWG of broilers than those supplemented with low- or mid-Fe diets. The overall FCR was significantly better in birds fed on the mid-Fe diets with phytase supplementation.

3. A significant improvement in ileal digestibility of N, P, Mg and Fe was observed in birds feed diets containing 60 mg Fe/kg, with significant interaction between Fe and phytase.

4. Phytase improved the bone breaking strength when supplemented to low- or mid-Fe diets, compared to the non-supplemented diets. There was a significant Fe × phytase interaction effect. Tibia Fe content was higher in birds fed on phytase-free diets with high Fe but the reverse was the case when phytase was added and their interaction was significant. High dietary Fe significantly increased the accumulation of Fe in liver.

5. Phytase improved Ca-Mg-ATPase, Ca-ATPase and Mg-ATPase activities in jejunum when supplemented to the diet containing 80 mg Fe/kg.

6. This study indicates that high (100 mg/kg) dietary Fe inhibited phytase efficacy and subsequently reduced the overall performance and nutrient utilisation of broilers.  相似文献

1. Growth rates and daily food intakes of small, sexed groups of broilers were compared under different photoperiodic regimes during the period from 28 to 49 d of age.

2. Reduction in the duration of illumination did not impair growth rate.

3. The sexes showed a differential response to the treatments.

4. There was evidence that the enhanced performance of females was due to an improvement in food conversion efficiency.  相似文献

1. A significant proportion of wheat cultivars grown in New South Wales had low apparent metabolisable energy (AME) values (< 13.0 MJ/kg dry matter) for growing broilers when determined by the conventional total collection technique.

2. The low AME was due to a reduced starch digestibility and was not improved by grinding the wheat finely or by steam pelleting the diet.

3. Higher AME values were obtained when determinations were made with adult cockerels than with growing broilers when the conventional technique was used.

4. AME values determined using a rapid bioassay technique (Farrell, 1978) with growing broilers or adult cockerels were considerably higher than values determined using the conventional procedure with growing broilers.

5. Inter‐laboratory studies showed that the true metabolisable energy (TME) assay gave reproducible values for individual and blended wheat samples, but that these values were higher than AME values determined by the conventional procedure. Similar TME values were found with growing broilers and adult cockerels.  相似文献

1. The disposition kinetics and the plasma availability of moxifloxacin were investigated in Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) following different routes of administration at 5 mg/kg body weight.

2. Tissue residue profiles (liver, kidney, lung and muscle) and plasma were also studied after multiple intramuscular and oral administrations of 5 mg/kg body weight, once daily for 5 consecutive days.

3. Following intravenous injection, plasma concentration–time curves were best described by a two-compartment open model.

4. After intramuscular and oral administration of moxifloxacin, the peak plasma concentrations (Cmax) were 2.14 and 1.94 μg/ml and were obtained at 1.40 and 1.87 h (Tmax), post administration, respectively.

5. The systemic bioavailabilities following intramuscular and oral administration, respectively, of moxifloxacin were 92.48 and 87.94%.

6. Tissue concentrations following i.m. and p.o. administration were highest in liver and kidney, respectively, and decreased in the following order: plasma, lung and muscle. No moxifloxacin residues were detected in tissues and plasma after 120 h after i.m. or oral administration.  相似文献

1. The objective of this study was to determine the optimum glycine+serine (Gly+Ser) concentration in low-crude protein (CP) diets that have adequate or high concentrations of dietary threonine (Thr) for broiler chickens in the initial growth phase.

2. Treatments consisted of four concentrations of dietary Gly+Ser (18.4; 19.8; 21.2 and 22.6 g/kg) and two concentrations of dietary Thr (9.3 and 10.7 g/kg, corresponding to 100 and 115% of the required Thr, respectively).

3. At 21d, interactions were observed between dietary Gly+Ser and Thr concentrations for the feed conversion ratio, creatine content in the pectoral muscles and serum concentrations of uric acid. There was a quadratic effect of the concentrations of Gly+Ser in the diets with 9.3 g Thr/kg on the feed conversion ratio and creatine content in the pectoral muscles, with an optimisation concentration of 20.8 and 21.1 g Gly+Ser/kg, respectively.

4. Diets containing 10.7 g Thr/kg negatively affected the feed conversion ratio, relative breast weight, creatine content in the pectoral muscles, serum concentrations of uric acid and ammonia in poultry compared to diets containing 9.3 g Thr/kg.

5. The need for Gly+Ser in diets with low-protein concentration (190 g CP/kg) and adequate concentration of Thr (9.3 g/kg) is 20.8 g/kg for broilers in the 1- to 21-d phase.  相似文献
