Thirty-two pigs (average 26.6 kg live weight) were individually housed and fed to study the effect of an infection of Ascaris suum (either 0, 600, 6,000 or 60,000 A. suum eggs/pig) on performance of growing-finishing pigs. Increasing the level of A. suum infection produced linear (P less than .07) and quadratic (P less than .09) effects on final weight, weight gain and average daily gain. Feed to gain ratio and number of A. suum worms recovered from the intestines of pigs at slaughter increased linearly (P less than .01) with increasing doses of A. suum eggs. Pigs receiving 60,000 A. suum eggs were 13% less (P less than .01) efficient than the noninfected controls. In each of two trials, eight crossbred barrows (15.7 kg in trial 1 and 16.1 kg body weight in trial 2) were examined for the effects of two levels of A. suum infection (0 and 20,000 eggs/pig) on digestibility coefficients for dry matter, crude protein and gross energy. The infection did not affect (P greater than .05) digestibility coefficients during the first two collection periods (d 6 through 10 and 19 through 23). However, digestion coefficients for dry matter, crude protein and gross energy obtained from the total collection period on d 33 through 37 postinfection were greater (P less than .01) for control pigs than for pigs given 20,000 A. suum eggs each. Also, N retention was greater (P less than .05) for control pigs than for infected pigs.  相似文献

The apparent digestibility of nutrients and energy of 38 commercial dry extruded dog foods was measured using six adult (2 to 3 year-old) female Beagles. Diets contained [in g/kg dry matter (DM)]: 164–360 crude protein (CP); 79–261 ether extracts (EE); 8–33 crude fibre (CF) and 318–585 nitrogen free extracts (NFE). Apparent energy digestibility ranged from 77.3 to 91.6%, and was closely related to CF content ( r =–0.85), yielding the resultant equation: GED (%)=94.00 – 4.04 × CF (% DM). The estimation of digestible energy content of foods from digestibility coefficients predicted from the above equation and gross energy measured or estimated from the Weende fractions, provides a more accurate prediction of experimental values than the Atwater approach followed by the National Research Council and the Association of American Feed Control Officials.  相似文献

An attempt has been made to assess some quantitative aspects of the influence of fibre content in feedstuffs and diets on the digestibility and absorption of nutrients in pigs. The study is based on selected published literature and data from Danish experiments. The digestibility of nutrients consistently decreases with increasing fibre content in the diet, regardless of the analytical method used. However, the magnitude of this negative influence depends on the type and origin of the fibre source, technical treatment, feeding level, age and live weight of the pigs, etc.Increasing the content of crude fibre in diets is related to increasing the content of less digestible carbohydrate (hemicellulose) and a concurrent decrease in the content of easily digestible substances. It is shown that for each 1% increase in the crude fibre content, the content of starch + sugars in the NFE-fraction is decreased by 2.1–2.7%. This results in a reduced ileal digestibility, enhanced fermentation in the hindgut and an overall reduction of the digestibility of gross energy.Experimental data from this institute comprising 246 diets and 257 single feedstuffs were used to generate equations for prediction of the digestibility of gross energy. A single carbohydrate fraction (NDF or crude fibre) alone accounted for about 70% of the variation in digestibility in diets and 85% of the variation in digestibility of single feedstuffs.Fibre determination values based on either detergent methods (NDF) or crude fibre analysis supplemented with enzymic determination of starch + sugars were equally good as predictors of the digestibility of gross energy.  相似文献

The development of a metabolizable energy (ME) system for horses is described. Predictive equations for gross energy and digestible energy (DE) are revisited. The relationship between feed protein content and renal energy losses and the relationship between feed fibre content and methane energy losses were analysed in a literature review to develop predictive equations for ME. In horses, renal energy losses are much higher than losses by methane energy. Renal energy losses were correlated more strictly to protein intake than to digestible protein intake. The reason probably is that per gram of digestible crude protein energy losses are higher for roughage than for concentrates presumably because phenolic acids of forage cell walls contribute to higher urinary energy losses. However, digestibility of protein is lower in forages than in concentrates. The net result is a rather constant urinary energy loss of 0.008 MJ/g of crude protein in the feed. Methane losses in horses are smaller than in ruminants, presumably because of reductive acidogenesis in hind gut fermentation. Methane energy losses in equines are closely related to crude fibre intake. The mean methane energy losses amount to 0.002 MJ ME/g of crude fibre which can be used to correct for methane losses. Both corrections can be made for any predictive equation for DE. Metabolizable energy is then calculated as follows: ME MJ/kg = DE MJ/kg – 0.008 MJ/g crude protein – 0.002 MJ/g crude fibre. The equation of Zeyner and Kienzle (2002) to predict DE was adapted as mentioned above to predict ME: ME (MJ/kg dry matter) = ?3.54 + 0.0129 crude protein+0.0420 crude fat?0.0019 crude fibre+0.0185 N‐free extract (crude nutrients in g/kg dry matter).  相似文献

Near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) was used to predict the chemical composition, apparent digestibility and digestible nutrients and energy content of commercial extruded compound foods for dogs. Fifty-six foods of known chemical composition and in vivo apparent digestibility were analysed overall and 51 foods were used to predict gross energy digestibility and digestible energy content. Modified partial least square calibration models were developed for organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), crude fibre (CF), nitrogen free extracts (NFE) and gross energy (GE) content, the apparent digestibility (OMD, CPD, EED, NFED and GED) and the digestible nutrient and energy content (DOM, DCP, DEE, DNFE and DE) of foods. The calibration equations obtained were evaluated by the standard error and the determination coefficient of cross-validation. The cross-validation coefficients of determination (R) were 0.61, 0.99, 0.91, 0.96, 0.94 and 0.92 for OM, CP, EE, CF, NFE and GE, the corresponding standard error of cross-validation (SECV) being 5.80, 3.51, 13.35, 3.64 and 16.95 g/kg dry matter (DM) and 0.29 MJ/kg DM respectively. The prediction of apparent digestibility was slightly less accurate, but NIRS prediction of digestible nutrient (g/kg DM) and DE (MJ/kg DM) gave satisfactory results, with high R (0.93, 0.97, 0.93, 0.83 and 0.93 for DOM, DCP, DEE, DNFE and DE respectively) and relatively low SECV (11.55, 6.85, 12.14 and 22.98 g/kg DM and 0.47 MJ/kg DM). It is concluded that the precision of NIRS in predicting the energy value of compound extruded foods for dogs is similar or better than by proximate analysis, as well as being faster and more accurate.  相似文献

The digestibility for crude protein, ether extract, crude fibre, ash and nitrogen-free extract were determined for palm kernel meal samples. The test diets, identified as DA, DB and DI, were formulated to contain 10%, 20% and 40% palm kernel meal, respectively. With the exception of crude fibre and crude protein the digestibility of the nutrients of the diets decreased significantly as the dietary fibre content increased.  相似文献

The experiment was conducted with a 6 x 4 cyclic changeover design. Six adult Alaskan huskies were assigned to diets containing 0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% linseed cake. A linear decrease in the apparent digestibilities of organic matter (OM) (p < 0.020), ether extract (EE) (p < 0.003), neutral detergent fibre (p < 0.015), nitrogen-free extract (NFE) (p < 0.001) and crude carbohydrates (p < 0.001) was noted. Digestibilities of dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) were unaffected by the treatment. Wet weight of faeces increased (p < 0.001) and DM of faeces decreased (p < 0.001) linearly as the percentage of dietary linseed cake increased. Serum cholesterol concentration tended to decrease (p = 0.094) as the proportion of linseed cake increased. Apparent OM, EE, CP and NFE digestibility coefficients for linseed cake were 52%, 77%, 54% and 37%, respectively, and the digestible energy (DE) value was 13.22 MJ/kg DM. Our results showed that working and racing dogs fed the extruded and kibbled diet can utilize up to 4.2% linseed cake of diet DM as a fibre source without severe reductions in nutrient digestibility or feed consumption. Even higher levels of linseed cake, up to 8.5% of diet DM, can be used for normal or obese dogs, but more faeces will be excreted.  相似文献

The digestibility of the nutrients of Fermosin was tested on pigs and the following values were ascertained: organic matter=86%, crude protein=89% and N-free extractives=83%. The net energy ascertained on the basis of the content of nutrients and the digestibility of the nutrients of Fermosin amounts to 617 energetic feed units for pigs/kg dry matter. The true digestibility of the amino acids of Fermosin was determined on pigs and chicken. For lysin the true digestibility was ascertained as 95% (pigs) and 73% (Broilers). Due to the different digestion abilities of the two animal species, corresponding differences in the digestibility of the other amino acids were found as well.  相似文献

Samples of faeces and feed were collected from grower and finisher pigs kept on 25 commercial breeder-finisher units in the West-Midlands region of England. Faecal samples were examined for parasite eggs (Ascaris suis, Trichuris suum and strongylid species) using faecal flotation; and for Lawsonia intracellularis bacteria using the polymerase chain reaction. Feed samples were subjected to proximate analysis for energy, protein and fibre content and enzymic colorimetry for levels of non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs). Characteristics relating to housing, feeding and dung disposal systems and husbandry practices were recorded for each farm and assessed for their association with the presence of parasites and L. intracellularis at the herd level. Ascaris eggs were identified in 8% of herds, Trichuris eggs in 20% of herds and in strongylid eggs (Oesophogostomum and/or Hyostrongylus) in 44% of herds. Lawsonia intracellularis was detected in 15% of herds investigated. Herds positive for Trichuris and Ascaris had significantly lower levels of digestible energy and higher levels of neutral detergent fibre, total and insoluble NSPs in their diets than negative herds (p < 0.05). Housing weaners on slatted floors was associated with a significant decreased risk of parasite infection in grower-finishers (odds ratio = 0.09, p = 0.04) compared to housing on solid floors. The use of grower diets high in NSPs was associated with an increased risk of Trichuris infection (odds ratio = 27.6, p = 0.007). There was also an association at the herd level between infection with L. intracellularis and the presence of Trichuris eggs (odds ratio = 17.43, p = 0.069). It is concluded that control of dietary fibre intake (NSPs in particular) for growers and environmental hygiene (dung removal) for weaners appear to be the most important factors controlling parasite infection in grower-finisher pigs in the UK at present. The current move towards more straw based systems is thus likely to exacerbate the influence of these factors and is likely to result in increased parasite infection in grower-finisher pigs in the UK.  相似文献

Eight variants of recipes for mixtures of straw and concentrated feed with 10 to 60 per cent straw more or less finely ground (86 to 314 g crude fibre per kg dry matter) and fattening feed for lambs (50 g crude fibre per kg dry matter) were checked concerning the digestibility of crude nutrients for fullgrown wethers and 60 to 80-, 80 to 100-and 100 to 120-day-old lambs which had been ablactated at an age of 60 days. The digestibility for wethers was significantly higher than for lambs, between the age groups of which there were no significant differences concerning the digestibility. In accordance with the results with rations on the basis of concentrated feed as checked and described in the first piece of information, the content of crude fibres in the rations had a negative influence on the digestibility of organic matter, NFE and energy whereas there was a positive relation with the digestibility of crude fibres. The regression functions established for mixtures of straw and concentrated feed concerning the dependence of the digestibility on the content of crude fibres showed a relatively good coincidence in the range of a low content of crude fibres with the corresponding regression functions which were described in the first piece of information for rations of concentrated feed. The equations for the digestibility of crude fibres were an exception. In contrast to this, the quantitative relations between crude fibres and the digestibility as established in the first piece of information for rations with a low content of crude fibres cannot be transferred to rations with a higher content of crude fibres.  相似文献

A study to determine the nutritive value of mulberry (Morus alba) leaves in sheep diets was conducted. Mulberry leaves contained (g kg−1 on dry matter basis): 163 ash, 201 crude protein, 120 crude fibre, 37 ether extracts, 479 nitrogen-free extracts, 268 neutral detergent fibre, 148 acid detergent fibre, 41 acid detergent lignin, 121 cellulose and 107 hemicellulose, while the in vitro true digestibility of dry matter was 89.8%. The nitrogen (N) solubility, determined using: a) McDougall’s buffer, b) 0.02 N sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and c) 0.15 N sodium chloride (NaCl) as solvents, ranged from 11.6 to 14.9% of total N. In addition, the soluble non-protein nitrogen contributed a substantial part of total N (26.1%), the total true protein was 14.4% and the protein fractions evaluated after classical protein fractionation, were: albumins 11.1, globulins 9.7, prolamins 44.1, glutelins 8.5 and insoluble (or structural) proteins 26.6% of total N. In a digestibility trial, where mulberry leaves partially replaced lucerne hay and concentrates in wether sheep diets, there were no significant differences in dry matter, crude protein or crude fibre digestibility of the total diet. It was concluded that mulberry leaves have an appreciable potential as a protein source in sheep feeding.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine equations that predict ME in total mixed rations (TMR) based on routine methods. The ME content of 30 TMR for dairy cows was determined based on digestible crude nutrients obtained with wether sheep. Concentrations in the TMR (in g/kg DM) varied between 118 and 234 for crude protein, 26 and 48 for crude lipid, 131 and 250 for crude fibre, 281 and 488 for NDF, and 173 and 304 for ADF. Gas production ranged from 40.7 to 54.1 ml/200 mg DM, and enzymatically degraded organic matter from 652 to 800 g/kg DM. Digestibility [%] ranged from 68.6 to 84.0 for organic matter, from 55.6 to 84.3 for crude lipid, from 55.0 to 77.8 for crude fibre, from 57.6 to 77.0 for NDF and from 53.1 to 79.6 for ADF. ME ranged from 9.6 to 11.9 MJ/kg DM, and NEL from 5.7 to 7.4 MJ/kg DM. ME content was highly correlated with the concentration of both crude fibre and enzymatically degradable organic matter as well as with organic matter digestibility. A multiple regression equation based on crude fibre and crude lipid predicted ME with a reasonable goodness of fit (r2 = 0.81; s(y.x) = 2.4%). The inclusion of other nutrients, of neutral and acid detergent fibre, neither of gas production did improve the goodness of fit. The best prediction was achieved with inclusion of enzymatically degraded organic matter (r2 = 0.90; s(y.x) = 1.7%).  相似文献

Four colostomized laying hens per group were given a ration of barley and soya bean oil meal (SBM) with 12.5, 25.0 and 37.5% SBM resp. The crude protein intakes were 14.0, 17.7 and 21.4 g per animal and day. The lysine intake raised from 681 mg (group 1) to 1275 mg (group 3) per animal and day. The digestibility of dry matter and of the N-free extracts of the ration decreased with the rising SBM portion in the ration. The digestibility of crude protein remained constant. The investigated amino acids (Lys, His, Arg, Cys, Met) were higher digested in the 37.5% SBM ration than in the 12.5% SBM ration. The following digestibility values for SBM were found by means of the difference method: Dry matter 52.5%, crude protein 83.1%, crude fat 51.7%, crude fibre 5.5%, N-free extracts 50.6%. The level of the SBM did not influence the digestibility of the crude nutrients. The apparent digestibility of lysine from SBM depended on the level of intake and was found to be 82.3, 83.4 and 89.0%, resp. There were no differences in the digestibility of other amino acids.  相似文献

Digestibility trials were carried out with calves, aged 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 weeks, which were fed with feedstuffs of various energy and protein levels (various amounts of dried skim milk supplement with 146, 219, 323 g per day of the milk replacer Laktin) plus concentrate and hay. The purpose of the experiment was to find out what effect the amount of milk replacer varying daily had on the digestibility of the nutrients. The experiments confirm that the amount of milk replacer has a great influence on the digestibility of the crude fat. The amount of digestible crude fat consumed with the feed considerably influcenced the digestibility of the energy, it had little influence on the digestibility of the other nutrients, however. With increasing age the calves received more plant protein sources with a lower biologic value. Thus the digestibility of the protein in the complete ration was diminished as well. This shows that the digestibility was influenced by the protein quality, not, however, by the amount of crude protein. The digestibility of the dry matter andthe organic matter as well as of the N-free extractives in the feed ration diminished according to the changed composition with the increasing age of the animals; in constrast to this the digestibility of the crude fibres increased gradually.  相似文献

Growing pigs (from 20 to 80 kg body weight) were fed diets containing equal amounts of soybean, pea (pisum sativum), millet and barley hulls as well as a mixture of these fibre sources. The effects of these fibrous components on the digestibility of energy and nutrients were investigated. Although some rations had a similar nutrient composition, important differences in the digestibility of energy could be observed: e.g. soybean hulls and pea hulls had a similar content in crude fibre but differed in the digestibility of energy by a factor 1:2. The difference in the digestibility of energy was even more pronounced between the rations with soybean hulls and millet hulls (factor 1:11, respectively) although the crude fibre and ADF fibre content were similar. Therefore the magnitude of the difference in digestibility of energy shows a considerable variation between the fibre sources. This seems to be caused partially by differences in the chemical nature of the fibrous by-products. Soybean hulls and barley hulls proved to be very well suited for growing pigs (11.4 MJ DE/kg DM and 10.0 MJ DE/kg DM, respectively). The pea hulls showed a mean content of digestible energy (5.6 MJ DE/kg DM) whereas the millet hulls (1.1 MJ DE/kg DM) didn't contribute significantly to the energy supply of the pigs.  相似文献

Microbiota play an important role in total tract nutrient digestion, especially when fibrous diets are fed to pigs. This study aimed to use metagenomics to predict faecal nutrient digestibility in grower-finisher pigs. The study design consisted of 160 three-way crossbreed grower-finisher pigs (80 female and 80 male) which were either fed a diet based on corn/soybean meal or a more fibrous diet based on wheat/barley/by-products. On the day before slaughter, faecal samples were collected and used to determine faecal digestibility of dry matter, ash, organic matter, crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre and non-starch polysaccharides. The faecal samples were also sequenced for the 16S hypervariable region of bacteria (V3/V4) to profile the faecal microbiome. With these data, we calculated the between-animal variation in faecal nutrient digestibility associated with variation in the faecal microbiome, that is the “microbiability”. The microbiability values were significantly greater than zero for dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fibre and non-starch polysaccharides, ranging from 0.58 to 0.93, as well as for crude fat with a value of 0.37, but not significantly different from zero for ash. Using leave-one-out cross-validation, we estimated the accuracy of predicting digestibility values of individual pigs based on their faecal microbiota composition. The accuracies of prediction for crude fat and ash digestibility were virtually 0, and for the other nutrients, the accuracies ranged from 0.42 to 0.63. In conclusion, the faecal microbiota composition gave high microbiability values for faecal digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fibre and non-starch polysaccharides. The accuracies of prediction are relatively low if the interest is in precisely predicting faecal nutrient digestibility of individual pigs, but are promising from the perspective of ranking animals in a genetic selection context.  相似文献

Two groups of four pigs each were fed ad libitum with rations containing 70.7% barley, 7.7% fish meal, 0.7% Sussopan, 0.9% mixed minerals and 20% straw meal. Group 1 received partly hydrolysed straw meal, group 2 untreated straw meal. When those rations were given, weight increase performances of 767 g per animal and day in group 1 and 537 g per animal and day in group 2 were achieved in a preliminary 30-day feeding period. On the basis ofthe weight of the feed remnants, a consumption of 19.7% dry matter of the straw meal (group 1) resp. 18,5% (group 2) of the total intake of dry matter could be ascertained. At an average live weight of 93 kg (group 1) resp. 87.5 kg (group 2) the digestibility of both rations was examined. A significant difference was only found for the crude protein fraction with an apparent digestibility of 74.6% in group 1 and of 79.1% in group 2. Those pigs which received partly hydrolysed straw meal consumed 71.4 g N per animal and day, of which 25,4% were excreted in feces and 32.4% in urine. Those animals which were fed with untreated straw meal consumed 62.9 g N per animals and day of which 20.8% were excreted in feces and 49.7% in urine. The higher N-excretion in feces could also be proved for most amino acids the feeding with partly hydrolysed straw meal. For arginine, serine, glutamic acid, proline, isoleucine and Leucine these differences were significant. Differences concerning N-retention could not be found between the groups. 25% of the organic matter of the partly hydrolysed straw meal, 9.4% of the crude fibre and 44.2% of the N-free extractives were digestible. Of the untreated straw, 12.9% of the organic matter, 5.5% ofthe crude fibres and 21.7% of the N-free extractives were digestible. 193 EFpig were calculated for partly hydrolysed and 105 EFpig for untreated straw meal per kg dry matter. The result of substracting the CaCl2 of the partly hydrolysed straw meal is 205 EFpig per kg dry matter of the straw.  相似文献

Losses to internal parasites in swine production   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Experimental infections of pigs with Strongyloides ransomi, Stephanurus dentatus, Ascaris suum, Oesophagostomum spp. or Trichuris suis at increasing levels generally decrease daily gain and increase feed to gain ratio linearly. At lower, subclinical levels of infection, the feed to gain ratio typically is increased 3% to 6% by an infection. Based on low-level experimental infections with A. suum, the economic loss to producers in the U.S. from increased feed to gain ratio is estimated at $155 million annually.  相似文献

A comparative study of growth rate and feed intake and its utilization in male and female Mithun calves was carried out in hilly tracts of Nagaland. The animals of both sexes were fed fresh jungle grasses ad libitum and 2.0 kg of rice bran fortified with 1% mineral mixture and 1% salt daily. Growth rates of 369.50 and 305.67 g/day were observed in male and female calves, respectively. Sex-related differences in feed and nutrient intakes were statistically significant, whereas no significant difference was found in digestibility coefficients of nutrients between the groups as well as among the animals. Dry matter, digestible crude protein and total digestible nutrient intakes were recorded to be 107.81, 8.08 and 74.73 g/kgW0.75 per day, respectively, irrespective of sex. Feed conversion efficiency (FCE) and nutritive value of the ration were similar in both male and female calves. Results obtained from the study indicate that the growth rate and nutrient intakes were higher in male than female calves but the sex of the animal did not have any significant effect on nutrient utilization.  相似文献

Regression techniques may be used to establish close relations between the crude fibre content and digestibility data of organic materials (total digestibility). It was shown from regression equations calculated for a number of feedingstuffs that the total digestibility of a feedstuff may be calculated, with a sufficient degree of accuracy, from the crude fibre content of the material. The range of variations from most of the digestibility data obtained for various feedstuffs, was clearly below the limit given (2.5%). When regression equations are used the variation limits should always be indicated for which they had been established. Differences within the different groups of feedstuffs are so small that in many instances, the same equation may generally be used for feedstuffs of the same group. Similarly, equations for calculating digestibility values may be derived on the basis of the lignin content of a material, although the range of variations will, in this case, be wider when compared with the crude fibre content. The reason for this must be seen in the greater uncertainty of the lignin method. Analogous regression equations may be found for the different conserving products of green feeds, in which certain alterations have to be made corresponding to the different methods of conserving used. On the one hand, these are accounted for by changes in the crude fibre content brought about by biochemical reactions during the conserving process on the other hand a special influence of conserving form can be observed. The content of digestible crude protein in green feeds can be established, with a high degree of accuracy, from the crude protein content of the material. The content of digestible organic matter can be calculated from the digestibility of organic matter and from the ash content of the material. The content of digestible organic matter is, in turn, closely related to the content of energetic feed units in a particular material.  相似文献
