The effects of various dietary lipids on the growth performance and muscle fatty acid and α-tocopherol concentrations of African catfish were examined. Seven isonitrogenous and isoenergetic semipurified diets were formulated with 10% lipid coming from either cod-liver oil (CLO), sunflower oil (SFO), refined, bleached, deodorized palm olein (RBDPO), crude palm oil (CPO), crude palm kernel oil (CPKO), or combinations of 5% CLO with either 5% of palm fatty acid distillates (PFAD) or 5% of residual oil in spent bleaching clay (SBC), respectively. Catfish fed with the CLO diet showed significantly (P<0.05) lower growth and feed utilization efficiency compared to fish fed with the other six diets after 7 weeks. The growth response among catfish fed with the other diets was not significantly different. Blending CLO with either PFAD or SBC alleviated the growth reduction observed in fish fed with diets having CLO as the sole lipid source. Dietary lipid source did not affect the whole-body composition or muscle lipid level among catfish fed with the various diets. The fatty acid and α-tocopherol concentration of muscle lipids in African catfish generally reflected the fatty acid profile and α-tocopherol concentration of the dietary oil that was fed. It was concluded that products from the palm oil industry could be successfully used in the diets for African catfish, and possibly other tropical catfish species, without negatively affecting growth and feed utilization efficiency. The availability, lower cost, low polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content and high vitamin E concentration of palm oil make it the vegetable oil of choice for the formulation of fish feeds in tropical countries.  相似文献

The food sources of the main economic animals and trophic levels of biotic communities from an optimized culture model (RhopilemaSinonovacula constrictaParalichthys olivaceusPenaeus chinensis) in a sea water pond in Donggang, Liaoning province were studied using the stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes technique. The results indicated that the values of δ13C range from (?27.28 ± 0.35) ‰ to (?16.65 ± 0.20) ‰ and the values of δ15N range from (3.68 ± 0.23) ‰ to (13.91 ± 0.26) ‰, both of which exhibited significant fluctuations. The δ13C values of P. chinensis, Macrobrachium mipponensis and P. olivaceus were comparatively higher than those of other aquaculture animals, and the δ15N values of P. olivaceus was also comparatively higher. The contribution to the food sources of aquaculture animals (Rhopilema, S. constricta, P. olivaceus and P. chinensis) was analyzed by using the IsoSource software. The results indicated that fish meat had the greatest contribution to Rhopilema, S. constricta and P. chinensis; P. chinensis had the greatest contribution to P. olivaceus, followed by the M. mipponensis. The trophic level of the biotic communities under that optimized culture model in a sea water pond was 3.54, in which P. olivaceus was in the fourth level (3.54); P. chinensis, Synechogobius hasta, Ablennes anastomella, M. mipponensis, Ditrema temmincki Bleeker, Chelon haematocheilus were in the third trophic levels; Rhopilema, Engraulis japonius, S. constricta and zooplankton (1.00) in the second trophic levels, suspended matters (0.15) including phytoplankton, bacteria, humus, etc., were in the primary trophic levels.  相似文献

With additional organic carbon, fish waste can be used as a substrate to produce bioflocs, a protein source for aquaculture animals. In choosing a carbon source, one should consider convenience, cost and biodegradability. This study investigates the efficiency of poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB), a biologically degradable polymer, as a carbon source to produce bioflocs in suspended growth bioreactors (SGRs), PHB-SGRs, compared with glucose (GLU-SGRs). The C:N ratio in PHB-SGRs could be maintained around 15:1. The volatile suspended solids (VSS) yield was 2.94 ± 0.72 gVSS/g fish waste for PHB-SGRS and 4.90 ± 0.23 gVSS/g fish waste for GLU-SGRs. The recycling rate of nitrogen in aquaculture solid waste was 56 ± 2% and 87 ± 7% for the PHB-SGRs and Glu-SGRs. No significant differences were found in the bioflocs produced and in the crude protein content of the produced bioflocs between PHB-SGRs and GLU-SGRs. PHB-SGRs and GLU-SGRs could remove dissolved inorganic nitrogen from aquaculture wastewater, with average values of 11.82 ± 8.95 and 16.27 ± 3.95 mg/g TSS/d. Because the calculation of the added amount of carbon and the multiple additions of carbon was avoided, PHB is considered to be a good choice as an organic carbon source for this process, even though not all parameters used for assessment were better than those of GLU-SGRs.  相似文献

This study was carried out to study the impact of phased harvesting on the population structure, feed intake pattern and growth performance of Macrobrachium rosenbergii in polyculture with carps in a deepwater rice–fish system. There were two experimental conditions—rice–fish culture with phased harvesting (T1) and rice–fish culture without phased harvesting (T2)— and a control, which consisted of rice monoculture without fish (T3). In the T1 trial, 61% of the population had a mean body weight (MBW) <20 g 120 days after stocking (DAS), which fell significantly to 7.3% at 210 DAS. However, in the T2 trial, 62% of the population had a MBW <20 g at 120 DAS, which only fell to 23.7% at 210 DAS. Similarly, at 210 DAS, 12.5% of the population attained a MBW >80 g in the T1 trial, while none of the population reached a MBW >80 g in the T2 trial. The removal of fast-growing individuals in T1 improved the prospects of other smaller individuals to achieve their individual growth potential. This step also disrupted the continuation of the socially induced differential growth rates, resulting in a wide variation in size within the population over time. The matrix of dietary overlap(s) of cultured species revealed that the degree of food preference was more similar between Cyprinus carpio and M. rosenbergii (0.9), while it overlapped poorly between Catla catla and M. rosenbergii (0.42). This high similarity index between bottom dwellers is evidence of the strong possibility that these bottom dweller compete for food. Natural and supplemental feed together with phased harvesting boosted the production of freshwater prawns (550 kg ha−1) in the T1 trial, while a 11.3% reduction in production was recorded in the T2 trial.  相似文献

A 28-day indoor trial was conducted to evaluate the water quality, phytoplankton composition and growth of Litopenaeus vannamei in an integrated biofloc system with Gracilaria birdiae and Gracilaria domingensis. The experimental design was completely randomized with three treatments: control (shrimp monoculture); SB (shrimp and G. birdiae) and SD (shrimp and G. domingensis), all with three replicates. Random sampling was done (6 % of total population per experimental unit) to confirm white spot syndrome Virus (WSSV) infection using nested-PCR analysis due to suspicion of presence of the virus in the experiment (treatment and control groups). Shrimp L. vannamei (2.63 ± 0.10 g) were stocked in experimental tanks at a density of 425 shrimp m?3, and the Gracilaria was stocked at a biomass of 2.0 kg m?3. Shrimp mortality began in both the experimental and control groups at 10 days of culture. The integrated biofloc system (shrimp and seaweed) increased settleable solids (by 26–52 %); final weight (by 6–21 %); weekly growth (by 17–43 %); weight gain (by 17–43 %); specific growth rate (by 16–36 %); and yield (by 5–7 %) and decreased feed conversion ratio (by 21–28 %) and Cyanobacteria density about 16 % as compared to the control (shrimp monoculture). The use of red seaweed Gracilaria in an integrated biofloc system can enhance shrimp growth and reduce Cyanobacteria density in the presence of WSSV.  相似文献

Previous research and experience has linked elevated dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2) to reduced growth performance, poor feed conversion, and a variety of health issues in farm-raised fish, including Atlantic salmon Salmo salar. Supplemental control measures in water recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS) to reduce CO2 accumulation, however, such as increased water pumping to decrease tank hydraulic retention time, can represent significant costs for operators. We exposed post-smolt S0 Atlantic salmon (197 ± 2 g, 423 days post-hatch) to either high (20 ± 1 mg/L) or low (8 ± <1 mg/L) dissolved CO2 in six replicated freshwater RAS for 384 days to investigate differences in performance and health as the salmon were grown to harvest size. All RAS were operated at moderate water exchange rates (1.0% of the total recirculating flow), a 24-h photoperiod was provided, fish were fed to satiation, and densities were maintained between 40 and 80 kg/m3. Over the study period, dissolved oxygen was kept at saturation, mean water temperature was 14.1 ± 0.1 °C, and alkalinity averaged 237 mg/L as CaCO3. At study’s end, no significant differences in fish weight (high CO2 mean weight = 2879 ± 35 g; low CO2 mean weight = 2896 ± 12 g), feed conversion ratio (1.14 ± 0.12 vs. 1.22 ± 0.13, respectively), or thermal growth coefficient (1.45 ± 0.01 vs. 1.46 ± 0.01, respectively), were observed. No significant differences in survival (high CO2 mean survival = 99.1 ± 0.4%; low CO2 mean survival = 98.9 ± 0.3%) or culls due to saprolegniasis (3.5 ± 1% vs. 3.0 ± 1%, respectively) were determined, and no nephrocalcinosis was observed through histopathological evaluation. Blood gas and chemistry evaluation revealed higher pCO2, bicarbonate, and total CO2, and lower chloride and glucose, in the high CO2 cohort. Molecular analyses of gill enzyme regulation showed significantly higher expression of Na+/K+ ATPase α1a in high CO2 fish at 3-weeks post-challenge, indicating physiological adaptation to the higher CO2 environment without any noticeable long-term impacts on health or performance. Overall, the results of this study suggest that, at 237 mg/L as CaCO3 mean alkalinity, post-smolt Atlantic salmon can be raised in freshwater RAS to harvest size with up to 20 mg/L CO2 without significantly impacting fish health and performance.  相似文献

The distribution and movement between habitats with growth of the hard clam Meretrix lusoria were examined by comparing the size–frequency distributions among 17 sites in the Shirakawa–Midorikawa Estuary of the Ariake Sea. This clam is a commercially important bivalve in Japan, and its annual catch is largest in the Ariake Sea. At the study sites, new recruits were abundant at river mouths, and density was strongly affected by the distance from coastal tidal rivers and streams. In contrast, adults were widely distributed on tidal flats, although density was low at many sites. At marine site Oda, the density of adults was higher than that of new recruits at all sites and higher than that of juveniles at most sites. These results indicate that this species moves from riverine sites to marine sites with growth. Moreover, the observed low density of adult clams may indicate overfishing. The active movement of M. lusoria across the fishing grounds complicates the sustainable resource management of this species. Therefore, further studies are needed for effective resource management of M. lusoria.  相似文献

African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and lemon fin barb hybrid (LFBH) (Hypsibarbus wetmorei ♂ × Barbodes gonionotus ♀) were cultured in either a biofloc technology (BFT) system or an individual recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) and their survival, growth, feeding efficiencies and biochemical composition were then compared after 8 weeks. LFBH and African catfish were chosen based on their different feeding habits. In the BFT treatments, glycerol was added to create a carbon to nitrogen ratio of 15, while the RAS system consisted of a fine mesh mechanical and biological filter. Each of the four treatments was triplicated, with each replicate consisting of 20 African catfish (0.98 ± 0.05 g) or LFBH (1.77 ± 0.02 g). Water quality and biofloc formation were examined weekly while the biofloc proximate composition was measured in weeks 5 and 8. During weeks 6, 7 and 8 the total viable bacterial colony forming units (CFU) were quantified. Regardless of species, biofloc formation was similar but the crude protein, lipid and ash significantly decreased from week 5 to week 8. However, biofloc crude protein and ash were significantly higher in the LFBH treatment. Total viable CFU were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in BFT compared to RAS, with LFBH having significantly more (P < 0.05) than African catfish. The proximate composition of the fish were unaffected by either system. Implementing BFT significantly (P < 0.05) improved both African catfish and LFBH growth, but this improvement was substantially higher for LFBH (41.6%) than for African catfish (7.6%). This may be due to a better ability of LFBH to consume smaller particles. Preliminary results also indicate that the nutritional composition of bioflocs could be influenced by biofloc age, which could have implications to solids management.  相似文献

Two commercial trout diets (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and one commercial pike perch diet (Sander lucioperca) were fed to hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops × M. saxatilis) (mean initial weight ± SD of 60.7 g ± 12.1; mean initial length SD of 17.2 cm ± 1.1) for 69 days at rations of approximately 1% average body weight. While final body weight (FBW), final length (FBL) and condition factor (Cf) were not significantly influenced by diets, specific growth rate (SGR) in hybrid striped bass fed with the pike perch diet (1.15) was significantly higher than those fed with either of the two trout diets (1.04 and 1.07). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) in hybrid striped bass fed with the pike perch diet (1.0) was significantly lower than the FCR in hybrid striped bass fed with either of the two trout diets (1.1 and 1.2). When hybrid striped bass (mean initial body weight: 65.7 ± 4.5 and 127.7 ± 2.9 g) were fed with the pike perch diet twice per day until satiation for 52 days, the SGR was 1.7 and 1.15% d?1 in fishes with an average body weight of 116 and 183 g, respectively. Present results demonstrate that growth performance in hybrid striped bass can be improved when fishes are fed with commercial pike perch diets rather than using commercial trout diets as is the current practice.

This study investigated the effects of supplementary feeds with different crude protein (CP) levels on the growth and economic performances of sex-reversed Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) reared in a rain-fed rice–fish ecosystem for a period of 120 days. There were four treatments—namely, traditional feed (21% CP), formulated feed (26% CP), commercial feed (30% CP), and control (no feed was used)—with three replicates per treatment. Fish (30.04 g) were stocked in ditches at a rate of 0.5 fish m?2 considering the total area and fed one of the tested feeds twice daily at the rate of 2%–5% of body weight. Water-quality parameters of the ditches were monitored fortnightly, and these parameters were found suitable for fish farming. Organic matter, total nitrogen, and available phosphorous in soil were increased significantly (P < 0.05) in the feed treatments after fish cultivation. Highly significant weight gain and SGR were observed with fish fed the commercial feed as compared with other treatments. The highest benefit-cost ratio (2.15) was found in the control, followed by formulated feed (1.90), but in the case of numerical net return, it was the opposite. However, commercial feed showed the lowest benefit-cost ratio (1.67) due to higher feed cost than other supplementary feeds. Therefore, this study suggests that fish fed with a formulated feed (26% CP) produced significantly higher net economic return in the rice–fish farming system.  相似文献

Growth of juvenile giant tiger prawn, Penaeus monodon Fabricius, was evaluated at an aquarium-scale in co-culture with a discarded filamentous seaweed, Chaetomorpha ligustica (Kützing) Kützing. Juveniles at different ages in days were examined, designated as J 16, J 44, J 58, J 93 and J 128, where a 1-day-old juvenile (J 1) is equivalent to a 20-day-old post-larva (PL 20)). Juveniles at every age group grazed directly on live C. ligustica, even those fed an artificial shrimp diet to satiation. Mean specific growth rate (SGR: % day−1) was higher in early age juveniles. Compared to mono-culture, significant differences in growth were observed at J 16 (4.44% day−1) and J 44 (1.60% day−1); however, no significant differences were recorded at J 58 (1.16% day−1), J 93 (0.75% day−1) or J 128 (0.45% day−1). It was concluded that co-culture of giant tiger prawn with C. ligustica has a dietary advantage, especially in early age juveniles.  相似文献

The effect of trawling on fish size and on different quality parameters of cod (Gadus morhua) and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) was evaluated after conducting 16 valid hauls using two trawls in a double rig fitted with a traditional and a novel ‘T90’ codend, respectively. The total catch volume during the fishing period was 47.6 metric tons, with an average catch per codend of 1.5 (range 0.5–2.9) tons. The mean haul duration was 5 h. The catch was assessed according to fish size, mortality, external damage, initial white muscle pH and development of rigor mortis. Fillet quality (colour, blood spots, gaping) was assessed after 1 week of freeze-storage. Our results showed there was no difference between the two types of nets in terms of catch volume, but significantly slightly bigger fish were caught with T90 than with the traditional trawl net (p < 0.05). Haddock caught with the traditional trawl net had more external injuries related to the trawl gear than haddock caught with the T90 gear (p < 0.05). The gaping frequency for cod caught with the traditional trawl net tended to be higher than cod caught with the T90 gear, but the difference was not significant (p = 0.07). No other differences in fish quality between fish caught in the trawl nets were observed.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of Euphorbia hirta leaf extract on the growth performance, hematological and organosomatic indices of hybrid catfish, Clarias macrocephalus?×?C. gariepinus. The fish were treated with 0 (control), 300, 500 and 800 mg/kg (ppm) for 90 days. The weight gain, average daily growth rate, and specific growth rate were at significantly higher levels in fish from all the treatment groups on days 75 and 90, while the feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio were consistently higher in fish from all the treatment groups from day 60 up until day 90. The feed conversion rate significantly decreased from day 60 until day 90 in all treatment groups when compared with the control group, and the survival rate was significantly different from day 30 until day 90; a consistently higher rate was observed in fish fed 800 mg/kg. The highest viscerosomatic index and intraperitoneal fat were observed in the group fed 500 mg/kg (p?<?0.05). The hepatosomatic index was significantly increased alongside increasing levels of E. hirta extract. The total white blood cell count in the control group was significantly higher on day 30, but on day 90 all the treatment groups showed higher levels. Hematocrit percentage was significantly different on days 30 and 90. Lymphocyte, eosinophil and thrombocyte levels were shown to be significantly different (p?<?0.05) when different groups of fish were compared. In conclusion, 300 mg/kg of E. hirta leaf extract could improve growth performance, hematological and some organosomatic indices in hybrid catfish.  相似文献
