The indica variety Dular has a high level of resistance to rice stripe virus (RSV). We performed quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis for RSV resistance using 226 F2 clonal lines at the seedling stage derived from a cross between the susceptible japonica variety Balilla and the resistant indica variety Dular with two evaluation criteria, infection rate (IR) and disease rating index (DRI). The experiments were performed in both 2004 and 2005. Based on IR, three putative QTLs were detected and had consistent locations in the 2 years, one QTL was detected in the RM7324–RM3586 interval on chromosome 3. The other two QTLs were linked and located in the RM287–RM209 and RM209–RM21 intervals on the long arm of chromosome 11, and accounted for 87.8–57.8% of the total phenotypic variation in both years. Based on DRI, three putative QTLs were also detected and had consistent locations in both years. One of them was located in the RM1124–SSR20 interval on the short arm of chromosome 11, while the other two linked QTLs had the same chromosomal locations on chromosome 11 as those detected by IR, and accounted for 55.7–42.9% of total phenotypic variation in both years. In comparison to the mapping results from previous studies, one of the two linked QTLs had a chromosomal location that was similar to Stv-b i , an important RSV resistance gene, while the other appeared to be a newly reported one.  相似文献

Inheritance of scent in rice   总被引:15,自引:0,他引:15
Summary Inheritance of scent in rice and its association with pigmented characters were studied in T-141 × K-44-1. Four complementary genes appeared to control scent, one of them showing linkage with a complementary gene for glume colour and a supplementary gene for red pigment in apiculus. This group formed part of V (Prp)linkage group of Misro et al. (1966) in which case Pg and P were additions.Pl.480 Project on linkage maps in rice.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of an aroma was worked out in crosses between Brimful from Nepal as an aromatic rice and leading Japanese varieties Koshihikari and Nipponbare as non-aromatic ones. The F2 pattern of segregation for aroma to non-aroma was 3:13 indicating one dose gene for aroma and one dose inhibitor gene in two crosses. This ratio was confirmed by genetic behavior of F3 populations.  相似文献

Inheritance of salt tolerance in rice   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
Summary The genetic behavior of salt tolerance was studied in artificially salinized conditions at the International Rice Research Institute.Divergent selection, carried out at a salinity level where the ECe was 15.2 mmhos/cm at 25 C in F3 lines from two crosses confirmed the effects of salt tolerance on F4 progeny with realized heritability values of 0.39 and 0.62, respectively. In a cross between two tolerant cultivars there was clear over-dominance for tolerance, despite the high environmental fluctuation which resulted in a low genetic response as indicated by a low but significant repeatability of 0.20–0.25, and many progeny lines more tolerant than the parents were recovered. The superior tolerance of these progenies compared to the parents was confirmed subsequently at 3 different salt levels. In the same experiment a cross between tolerant and susceptible cultivars produced some progeny of comparable tolerance with tolerant sources. In a 6×6 diallel cross experiment with two tolerant, moderate, and susceptible varieties each, both general and specific combining ability were significant. The findings indicate the possibility of breeding rices more tolerant than existing tolerant cultivars through cumulative crosses of tolerant cultivars. Further improvement can be attained by crossing highly tolerant lines with donors of good agronomic traits and pest and disease resistance.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of grain threshability was studied in a cross between two indica rice varieties. Hard threshability was found to be completely dominant over easy threshability. The segregation pattern indicated threshability to be monogenically controlled.  相似文献

Summary Avoidance of drought stress is commonly associated with root system characteristics and root development. The inheritance of root pulling resistance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) was investigated and its relationship with visual field scores for drought tolerance was studied. Transgressive segregation for high root pulling resistance was observed in 3 crosses (high x high, low x high, and intermediate x intermediate). Both dominant and additive genes control the variation. F1 superiority for high root pulling resistance was observed and could be exploited in an F1 hybrid breeding program. F2 distribution curves indicated that plants highly resistant to root pulling can be obtained not only from low x high and high x high crosses, but also from intermediate x intermediate crosses. Root pulling resistance in rice has a low heritability (39 to 47%). Thus, breeding for a high root pulling resistance may best be accomplished by selection based on line means rather than individual plant selection. Field screening showed significant differences in leaf water potential among random F3 lines. F3 lines with higher leaf water potential had better visual scores for drought tolerance. Visual drought tolerance scores were correlated with root pulling resistance. Plants with high root pulling resistance had the ability to maintain higher leaf water potentials under severe drought stress. The usefulness of the root pulling technique in selecting drought tolerant genotypes was confirmed.  相似文献

An introgression line derived from an interspecific cross between Oryzasativa and Oryza officinalis, IR54741-3-21-22 was found to beresistant to an Indian biotype of brown planthopper (BPH). Genetic analysisof 95 F3 progeny rows of a cross between the resistant lineIR54741-3-21-22 and a BPH susceptible line revealed that resistance wascontrolled by a single dominant gene. A comprehensive RAPD analysisusing 275 decamer primers revealed a low level of (7.1%) polymorphismbetween the parents.RAPD polymorphisms were either co-dominant (6.9%), dominant forresistant parental fragments (9.1%) or dominant for susceptible parentalfragments (11.6%). Of the 19 co-dominant markers, one primer,OPA16, amplified a resistant parental band in the resistant bulk and asusceptible parental band in the susceptible bulk by bulked segregantanalysis. RAPD analysis of individual F2 plants with the primerOPA16 showed marker-phenotype co-segregation for all, with only onerecombinant being identified. The linkage between the RAPD markerOPA16938 and the BPH resistance gene was 0.52 cM in couplingphase. The 938 bp RAPD amplicon was cloned and used as a probe on122 Cla I digested doubled haploid (DH) plants from aIR64xAzucena mapping population for RFLP inheritance analysis and wasmapped onto rice chromosome 11. The OPA16938 RAPD markercould be used in a cost effective way for marker-assisted selection of BPHresistant rice genotypes in rice breeding programs.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of resistance to a soybean isolate of peanut stripe virus (PStV-strain PN) was studied in three soybean varieties, AGS 129, Ankur, and PI 230971. Genetic analysis was based on necrotic, mosaic and symptomless reactions in inoculated soybeans. A single incompletely dominant gene in AGS 129 was found to confer the resistance to PStV and was tentatively designated as Pst. The homozygous parent AGS 129, possessing the genotype Pst Pst, was immune while Ankur and PI 230971, with a genotype of pst pst, were susceptible showing mosaic symptoms. The heterozygous genotype Pst pst resulting from the cross of either Ankur or PI 230971 with AGS 129 reacted with necrosis, distinctly different from either of the homozygous genotypes. This genotypic effect was confirmed through the phenotypic segregation in BC, F2, and F3.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of resistance to the Punjab isolate of Xanthomonas campestris pv. oryzae of bacterial blight disease of rice was studied in seven breeding lines resistant to the disease. The results revealed that resistance in breeding lines PAU 122-73-1-4-1, PAU 164-102-1-2-1-1-1, KJT 24, IR 5657-33-2-1-2 and IR 22082-41-2-2 was controlled by single dominant genes allelic to the dominant gene which confers resistance to the Punjab isolate in Patong 32. Resistance to the Punjab isolate in breeding lines IET 7172 and RP 2151-40-1 was found to be controlled by single recessive resistance genes allelic to one of the recessive resistance genes present in BJ 1. The two genes are independently inherited and are being used to develop bacterial blight resistant varieties.  相似文献

Inheritance and linkage relationship of scent in rice   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Summary The inheritance of scent in rice and linkage relationship of genes governing scent with those controlling leaf sheath colour, ripening hull colour and apiculus pigmentation were studied in a cross between Pankaj (nonscented) and Kalabhat (scented) rice cultivars. The scent was identified by leaf analysis. Two dominant complementary genes Sk 1 and Sk 2 were found to be responsible for controlling scent. Either of the genes produce mild scent, the presence of both Sk 1 and Sk 2 is necessary for production of parental type scent. The genes were independent of other genes controlling leaf sheath colour, ripening hull colour and apiculus pigmentation.  相似文献

Durable resistance to rice blast disease-environmental influences   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
J. M. Bonman 《Euphytica》1992,63(1-2):115-123
Summary Blast is one of the most serious diseases of rice worldwide. The pathogen,Pyricularia grisea, can infect nearly all parts of the shoot and is commonly found on the leaf blade and the panicle neck node. Host resistance is the most desirable means of managing blast, especially in developing countries. Rice cultivars with durable blast resistance have been recognized in several production systems. The durable resistance of these cultivars is associated with polygenic partial resistance that shows no evidence of race specificity. This partial resistance is expressed as fewer and smaller lesions on the leaf blade but latent period does not appear to be an important component. Partial resistance to leaf blast is positively correlated with partial resistance to panicle blast, although some cultivars have been found showing leaf-blast susceptibility and panicle-blast resistance. A diverse set of environmental factors can influence the expression of partial resistance, including temperature, duration of leaf-wetness, nitrogen fertilization, soil type, and water deficit. Because of the great diversity of rice-growing environments, resistance that proves durable in one system may or may not prove useful in another. In highly blast-conducive environments, other means of disease management must be applied to assist host-plant resistance.  相似文献

Summary The genetics of resistance to whitebacked planthopper, Sogatella furcifera (Horvath) in ten resistant cultivars was studied. The reactions of the F1, F2 and F3 populations of resistant varieties with Taichung Native 1, a suspectible check, showed that WBPH resistance is monogenic in nature and governed by dominant gene(s) in Ptb 19 and IET 6288 and recessive gene in eight cultivars viz. ARC 5838, ARC 6579, ARC 6624, ARC 10464, ACR 11321, ARC 11320, Balamawee and IR 2415-90-4-3. Allelic relationship of resistance gene(s) in the test cultivars revealed recessive gene in IR 2415-90-4-3, ARC 5838 and ARC 11324 to be allelic but it was non allelic to the resistance gene in ARC 6624. Cultivars ARC 6579, ARC 11321 and Balamawee have identical gene among themselves but their relationship with IR 2415-90-4-3, ARC 5838, ARC 11324 and ARC 6624 is unknown. The recessive gene in ARC 10464 is non-identical to all other cultivars having the recessive gene except ARC 6624 with which its relationship needs further investigation.  相似文献

The Asian rice gall midge, Orseolia oryzae Wood Mason (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), is a major pest of rice in several South and South East Asian countries. The maggots feed internally on the growing tips of the tillers and transform them into tubular galls, onion leaf-like structures called ‘silver shoots’ resulting into severe yield loss to the rice crop. We studied the mode of inheritance and allelic relationships of the resistance genes involved in resistant donor Line 9, a sib of a susceptible cultivar ‘Madhuri’. The segregation behaviour of F1, F2 and F3 populations of the cross between Line 9 and susceptible cultivar MW10 confirmed the presence of a single dominant gene for resistance. Tests of allelism with all the known genes giving resistance to this population indicated that Line 9 possessed a new gene which was designated Gm 9 This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary Drought is a constraint to rice yields in much of Asia's rainfed rice crop. Although genotypic variation for root system characteristics is well documented in this semiaquatic species, little improvement of rice for drought resistance has been attempted. No simple method to evaluate root systems exists. In this paper we report the development and testing of a simple device to measure the pulling force required to uproot rice seedlings. The force required to pull rice seedlings from the paddy soil was correlated with root weight, root branching and thick root number. The capability to separate rice cultivars by this technique and relationship of the root pulling force to other drought screening methods are illustrated.  相似文献

Summary Ten rice genotypes were inoculated with a virulent isolate of Magnaporthe grisea to study the effect of leaf age on components of partial resistance, and evaluate associations between these components. The number of sporulating lesions per cm2 leaf declined with increase of leaf age in all genotypes. The number of lesions per cm2 leaf area in one week old leaves was about 25% that of the number in very young leaves in the susceptible cultivar CO39, but less than 2% in the more resistant cultivars IR36, IR60 and IR62. Large differences between genotypes were found for the number of sporulating lesions that developed, and this factor was closely related to the period that leaves remained susceptible after appearance. The number of lesions in the most susceptible cultivar CO39 was about 7 times that in the cultivars IR60 and IR64. Differences between genotypes were also found for lesion size. The effect of aging on average lesion size was less pronounced than on lesion density. Lesion size and lesion density were positively correlated, but a rapid decline of density was not necessarily accompanied by a rapid decline of size. No apparent differences between genotypes were observed for latent period. Genotypes with leaves that became highly resistant soon after appearance expressed higher levels of partial resistance in the field.  相似文献

Summary Six rice genotypes, differing in partial resistance, were exposed to three isolates of the blast pathogen. Of the variance due to host and pathogen genotypes, 39% was due to host genotype effects, 60% was due to isolate effects, and only 1% was due to host genotype × isolate interactions. Although small, this interaction variance was highly significant and mainly due to the IR50 × W6-1 and IR37704 × JMB8401-1 combinations. Although behaving largely as race-non-specific (large main effects only), the partial resistance cannot be classified as race-non-specific. The results suggest that minor genes for partial resistance operate in a gene for gene relationship with minor genes in the pathogen.  相似文献

Summary Although many selection indices have been used to screen rices (Oryza sativa L.) for drought resistance, there has been little comparison of the relative merits of these indices. Research was conducted to compare drought resistance as estimated from grain yields, canopy-temperature-based stress indices, visual scoring, and uprooting force for 30 rice genotypes grown in the field with a puddled Maahas clay (Typic Tropaquept) and to evaluate traits related to drought resistance from nonstressed plants grown in the field and in aeroponic culture. Water deficit was imposed in the field by withholding irrigation from 45 to 75 days after transplanting compared to a continuously flooded control. Grain yields in the stress treatment were most strongly correlated with visual assessment of drought stress symptoms according to a standard evaluation system (r = 0.66). Canopy-temperature-based indices were also significantly correlated with grain yields of the stress treatment (r from –0.55 to –0.63). No trait of aeroponically grown plants was correlated with traits of stressed plants in the field. We conclude that visual scoring of stressed plants was the best method of screening for drought resistance, but if controlled water deficit cannot be imposed, then drought resistance may be estimated by measuring both uprooting force and grain yield.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of resistance to white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera Horvath, was investigated in a rice, Oryza sativa L., cultivar N22. Resistance to the white-backed planthopper in the cross IR30×N22 appears to be governed by a single dominant gene-designated Wbph. The classification for various characteristics of 397 F3 families of the IR30×N22 cross confirmed earlier results about the monogenic dominant control of resistance to brown planthopper, green leafhopper, and bacterial leaf blight, and about the monogenic recessive control of short stature. Additionally, the genes governing plant height and resistance to white-backed planthopper, brown planthopper, green leafhopper, and bacterial leaf blight were found to segregate independently of each other in these 397 F3 families.  相似文献

Summary The degree of photoperiod sensitivity was studied in the F5 and F6 of three crosses between sensitive and insensitive rice cultivars under field conditions. Photoperiod sensitive lines could be identified as nonflowering lines in a February-seeded nursery. These lines had a short critical daylength (i.e. late flowering date). The strongly sensitive lines also had a high degree of photoperiod sensitivity, measured as the ratio of the difference in growth duration for two seeding dates to the difference in seeding dates in the main wet season. Some lines, however, with a relatively high degree of sensitivity and a longer critical daylength, were able to flower in the February-seeded nursery. In the cross KDML 105 × IR42, photoperiod sensitivity showed a bimodal distribution, suggesting major gene control. In Latisail × IR28 and KDML 105 × IR50, the inheritance was not clear. In KDML 105 × IR42, 37 out of 97 F5 lines were strongly sensitive and in KDML 105 × IR50, 7 out of 95 F5 lines were strongly sensitive. Thus the choice of the insensitive parent greatly influenced the number of strongly sensitive lines recovered. Degree of photoperiod sensitivity was positively correlated with plant height in the wet season. In the dry season this was not observed, because the sensitive lines flowered earlier.  相似文献

Summary The possible linkage relationship between hypocotyl color, leaflet shape, resistance to soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and to a soybean isolate of peanut stripe virus (PStV-isolate PN) was examined in two soybean lines AGS 129 and Ankur.Hypocotyl color, leaf shape and reactions to SMV-G1 and PStV were found to be inherited monogenically, with purple hypocotyl color, ovate leaf shape and resistance to both of the viruses being dominant. The reactions to SMV and PStV were conditioned by genes with 9 ± 2.4 percent recombination as coupling phase. They were inherited independently from hypocotyl color and leaf shape.  相似文献
