A suitable procedure for obtaining blood samples was established from an investigation of (a) diurnal variations in plasma amino acid concentrations and (b) the effect of controlling food intake on plasma amino acid levels.

Restriction of feeding to a 40‐min period, 105 min before sampling, significantly increased total plasma amino acid levels (P< 0.05) and individual concentrations of serine and proline (P<0.05) and glycine (P<0.01). The cause of these changes is not clear. Amino acid concentrations in samples taken at different times during the day were fairly constant. In the sampling procedure adopted routinely, birds were allowed free access to their diets for two weeks and sampled at 14.00 h on day 14.

The effect of dietary lysine level, at two protein concentrations, on plasma amino acid levels was evaluated. With inadequate and excessive dietary lysine concentrations total plasma amino acid levels were generally elevated. Plasma levels were least with diets containing 0.9 to 1.15% lysine.

The lysine requirements for optimum performance measured by growth rate, food conversion efficiency and nitrogen retention were identified as 1.2% with a 21% protein diet and approximately o‐8% with a 16% protein diet. The data indicate that efficient utilisation of dietary protein and relatively low levels of amino acids in the plasma are fairly closely related.  相似文献

1. An experiment was performed with growing broiler chickens (14 to 21 d old) to examine 3 diet characteristics which have been implicated in regulatory elevation of metabolic rate: an unbalanced amino acid mixture, high dietary energy concentration and low protein concentration.

2. Differences in energy expenditure could be explained almost entirely (93%) by differences in quantities, and therefore costs, of protein and fat accretion. There was no indication of regulatory diet‐induced thermogenesis. Heat production was not significandy correlated with CP:TME ratio and was negatively correlated (P<0.01) with dietary TME concentration.

3. Heat production was closely correlated (P< 0.001) with rate of protein accretion, which in turn was more strongly associated with intake of the first‐limiting amino acid (lysine) than with total protein intake. Heat production on an imbalanced, lysine‐limited, amino acid mixture was no greater than on a balanced amino acid source with the same lysine concentration.

4. There was no indication of a stimulation of heat production by excess amino acids. Heat production, adjusted for body weight by covariance analysis, was similar on paired diets which had identical lysine concentrations but a 1.5‐ or 2‐fold difference in crude protein concentration.

5. There was a strong negative correlation (P< 0.001) between protein retention per g of lysine consumed and lysine :CP ratio, suggesting that, in this case, response to a limiting amino acid was improved by the presence of a super‐abundance of other amino acids.  相似文献

1. From 8 weeks of age cockerels and pullets were restricted for 8 or 12 weeks either by rationing, by feeding a low lysine diet or by feeding a diet low in protein but balanced in respect of all amino acids.

2. There was a significant decrease in growth rate of the birds as a result of the restrictive treatments.

3. The dietary treatments affected the rate of uptake of the four amino acids tested—arginine, lysine, histidine and glycine—although the effect was not significant in all cases, neither was it consistent throughout.  相似文献

1. A study was conducted to compare apparent and true digestibility of amino acids in a high protein experimental diet between young ostriches (7 months of age) and cockerels.

2. A mean value for true digestibility of amino acids (TAAD) of 0.837 ± 0.0073 (range 0.780 to 0.862) was derived for ostriches, compared with a mean value of 0.795 ± 0.0258 (range 0.723 to 0.825) for cockerels.

3. True retention of dietary protein was 0.646 ±0.0114 and 0.609 ±0.0643 for ostriches and cockerels respectively.

4. Results in the present study produced evidence that the method for determining metabolisable energy values of ingredients for ostriches is also suitable for measuring the digestibility of amino acids.

5. It was concluded that accurate diet formulation for ostriches requires the assessment of amino acid digestibilities for individual ingredients, because values derived from poultry would underestimate digestibilities for ostriches.  相似文献

1. Endogenous amino acid losses in ileal digesta and excreta of adult cockerels fed on diets containing guanidinated forms of casein, soyabean meal and cottonseed meal were determined using homoarginine as a marker.

2. The ileal endogenous amino acid losses were markedly higher (P< 0–001) in birds given the cottonseed meal diet compared to those given the other two diets. The ileal endogenous protein was rich in aspartic acid, serine and glutamic acid.

3. Negative values were obtained for endogenous amino acid output in excreta. These aberrant values were caused by high concentrations of homoarginine in the excreta. A subsequent study with broiler chickens showed that the homoarginine in excreta was of urinary origin.

4. These results indicate that the homoarginine technique is not suitable for determining endogenous amino acid losses in excreta, but applicable when determinations are made in the terminal ileum.  相似文献

1. The classical ME value of triticale varied from 12.305 to 13.778 kJ/g or 11.819 to 13.016 kJ/g corrected for N‐retention depending upon method of calculation.

2. Substituting triticale for maize, weight for weight, but not on a iso‐nitrogenous basis, in a groundnut oil cake (GNC) starter diet improved weight gain (P < 0.05) when the substitution exceeded 75% without affecting the protein efficiency ratio (PER).

3. A similar substitution in a soybean oil meal diet, improved weight gain (P < 0.05) at 50% or more but PER declined (P < 0.05).

4. The net protein utilisation and protein retention efficiency values of the diets in which maize protein was replaced by triticale protein were significantly reduced.

5. The maize‐GNC diet was equally limiting in methionine and lysine while the triticale‐GNC diet was not.

6. The growth and food efficiency obtained with a triticale‐GNC diet was higher (P < 0.01) than with the maize‐GNC diet but not with a maize‐GNC supplemented with fish meal and methionine.

7. It is concluded that triticale could quantitatively substitute maize in the starter diets.  相似文献

1. Ileal endogenous amino acid losses were determined in broiler chickens and in cannulated cross‐bred layer strain cockerels using either a nitrogen‐free diet, regression analysis or a 48 h fast.

2. Endogenous amino acid flows to the ileum in fasted cockerels were significantly lower than those obtained both by feeding the nitrogen‐free diet, and from regression analysis in either broilers or cockerels. Regression analysis gave the highest flows.

3. The apparent digestibility coefficients of amino acids in a diet containing 200 g/kg crude protein were lower in broilers (0.84) than in cockerels (0.88). When corrected, by regression analysis, for the contribution of endogenous amino acids, the true digestibility coefficients became 0.90 and 0.92 respectively.  相似文献

1. A hypothesis, that the optimum amino acid concentration in the diet is not directly proportional to the dietary energy concentration, but changes in inverse proportion to the change in food intake resulting from a change in energy concentration, was tested in three experiments.

2. Response experiments involving the amino acids methionine, lysine and isoleucine were conducted, in each case at three dietary energy concentrations, using a diet dilution and blending technique, thereby ensuring a constant ratio between background amino acids and the first‐limiting amino acid in all diets, and also keeping the ratio of amino acids to energy constant as energy varied.

3. A common response curve relating egg output (g/bird d) to amino acid intake (mg/bird d) for each amino acid, fitted by means of the Reading Model, adequately described the response at each of the dietary energy contents. This implies that energy does not influence egg output directly, but only indirectly through its effect on food intake and hence on amino acid intake.

4. Both amino acid and energy concentration significantly influenced food intake. Energy intake was not constant over all dietary energy concentrations, being lower at low energy levels and higher at high energy concentrations.

5. It is concluded that amino acid requirements should not be stated either as percentages or as ratios with energy. Optimum amino acid intakes and energy concentrations should be calculated; the expected food intake should then be predicted, after which the appropriate concentration of nutrients in the diet can be determined.  相似文献

1. The inclusion of 25 g hydrolysed feather meal (HFM) in each kilogram of diet (floor experiment) and 60 g/kg (cage experiment) did not depress performance.

2. Chemical tests indicated 72.5% of the total lysine in HFM was available.

3. Total lysine concentration of 11.3 g/kg diet maximised performance during the period 0 to 34 d.

4. Reduction in dietary methionine content during the period 0 to 34 d from 4.2 g/kg to 3.2 g/kg did not depress performance on diets containing 60 g HFM/kg.

5. The results indicate that at least 57% by weight of the total sulphur amino acid requirement of broilers can be provided by cystine.  相似文献

1. The present study was conducted to determine the possibility of using low‐protein broiler diets supplemented with synthetic amino acids. The effects on performance, carcase composition and nitrogen retention were evaluated.)

2. A starter diet was given, ad libitum, from 7 to 21 and a finisher diet from 21 to 42 d of age. Body weight, weight gain, food intake and food conversion (FC) were determined at 3 and 6 weeks of age. Abdominal fat deposition (AFD), carcase yield, carcase fat and protein and nitrogen retention were determined at 6 weeks of age. During the starter period chicks were given a 231 g/kg crude protein (CP) diet and a low protein diet supplemented with synthetic amino acid, a: to National Research Council recommendations, b: to the concentration of the control diet, and c: in agreement with the pattern of body composition. Glutamic acid and glycine were added to some diets as sources of non‐essential amino acids (NEAA). All diets contained 12.62 MJ metabolisable energy (AMEn)/kg. The diets administered between 3 and 6 weeks were comparable to the starter diets, except that they contained more AMEn (12.85 MJ/kg) and less protein.

3. Performance equal to that of high protein controls was obtained with birds fed a low protein diet supplemented with synthetic essential and NEAA to the amounts in the control diet or based on the amino acid profile of body protein. This was not achieved with low protein diets supplemented with synthetic amino acids to the amounts recommended by NRC.

4. Without altering performances, the efficiency of protein utilisation of birds fed on low protein diets was superior to that of birds fed on the commercial control diet and their nitrogen excretion was reduced by 26%. The percentage carcase yield and protein was unaffected by the dietary regimen but carcase fat content and AFD increased as the protein content of the diet decreased.

5. These results show that it is possible to obtain the same performances with low protein diets supplemented with synthetic amino acids, using an ideal amino acid balance. However, low protein diets result in a higher carcase fat content.  相似文献

In each of two experiments chicks aged 7 d were housed individually and given purified diets containing crystalline amino acids for a period of 13 or 14 d.

In the first experiment a comparison was made of four amino acid mixtures and of starch plus sucrose as a carbohydrate source. It was found that an amino acid mixture formulated on the basis of current recommendations for overall amino acid balance and for the high ME value of purified diets (diet G), gave superior growth and efficiency of food conversion. The amount of food eaten was greater with diets containing starch plus sucrose than with starch alone and as a result growth was improved. Carbohydrate source had no significant influence on the efficiency of food conversion.

In the second experiment diet G was modified by reducing the level of ME with a concomitant reduction in the level of all amino acids. The effect of modifying a comparable diet developed at the University of Illinois by lowering the ME level while keeping the level of all amino acids constant was also tested. It was found that diet G modified by the incorporation of 10% extracted sawdust gave the best growth performance and it is suggested as an amino acid reference diet. The growth rate achieved with it was 16 g/d from 7 to 14 d which surpassed that obtained with a practical broiler diet. Modification of the Illinois diet did not improve the growth performance.  相似文献

1. The influence of caecectomy and dietary crude protein content (50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 g/kg diet) on the apparent excreta amino acid digestibilities in adult cockerels fed on semi‐purified diets containing soyabean meal (SBM) or cottonseed meal (CSM) as the sole source of protein was investigated.

2. Caecectomy had no influence on the apparent digestibilities of most amino acids in SBM, the exceptions being histidine, arginine and lysine, but lowered the apparent digestibility of amino acids in CSM.

3. The protein content in assay diets has a strong influence on the apparent amino acid digestibility values for poultry. Apparent values are lower when the dietary protein content is low.

4. The use of a single endogenous amino acid output value, generated by regression analysis or protein‐free diets, for true digestibility adjustments across a wide range of protein intakes is questioned. In particular, such an application will penalise estimates of apparent digestibility when the dietary protein content is high.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were conducted to determine the influence of dietary protein and amino acids on urinary excretion of amino acids and nitrogen in colostomised turkey hens.

2. Normal and colostomised turkeys 8 weeks of age were fed on control and high protein diets. Body weight gains of both types of birds were similar. Diet did not affect the amino acids in the urine significantly, but urinary nitrogen was higher with the high protein diet.

3. Normal and colostomised turkeys 10 weeks of age were fed a diet with either supplemental DL‐methionine or L‐lysine hydrochloride (each 20 g/kg diet). DL‐methionine depressed gain and resulted in considerable excretion of methionine in urine. Lysine had little effect on weight gain or urinary lysine.  相似文献

1. Three sequential experiments, each lasting 8 weeks, were carried out on 576 singly‐caged light hybrids.

2. In experiment 1 egg production was 84% using a conventional control diet, 61% with a basal low‐protein diet, and 79% with the basal diet supplemented with 10 essential amino acids + L‐glutamic acid (GA).

3. In experiment 2 supplementation with lysine and methionine (L + M) alone increased egg production significantly from 54 to 72%, compared with 83% with the conventional diet.

4. In experiment 3 egg production was 55% with the basal diet, 71% with the basal diet + L + M, 75% with a diet containing 141 g protein/kg + L + M, and 73% with the conventional diet.

5. In all three experiments supplementation with GA alone either gave no significant response or a depression in production.

6. Daily intakes of 1.24 g nitrogen as non‐essential amino acids and 13 to 14 g total crude protein per bird resulted in good egg production. Supplementation of the basal diet with L + M resulted in a daily intake of 413 mg methionine/bird day which was considered adequate, and a daily intake of 710 mg lysine which was considered slightly inadequate.  相似文献

1. The amino acid composition of the whole body protein of 28‐ and 56‐d‐old turkeys is reported.

2. There were some differences between the two ages; these could largely be reconciled by considering the likely differences in the proportion of feather protein.

3. The results were compared with similar values for the chicken and goose; overall there is a striking similarity, both in absolute concentrations and relative proportions of amino acids.  相似文献

1. The value of hydrolysed feather protein (HFM), included at 70 g/kg in a wheat‐based diet, as an amino acid source for laying hens was determined.

2. Egg production was reduced in hens fed on diets containing HFM owing to a deficiency in lysine, methionine and tryptophan.

3. Supplementation of the diet containing HFM with 3'0 g lysine (as L‐lysine HC1), 0.7g DL‐methionine and 0.5g L‐tryptophan per kilogram, resulted in a daily egg mass output similar to that achieved with a conventional layers’ diet.  相似文献

Two strains of continuously‐grown, methane‐utilising bacteria were found to contain 8.96 and 9.95% N and a favourable pattern of essential and non‐essential amino acids, the concentrations of which were generally higher than those previously observed in batch grown organisms (D'Mello, 1972).

One of these strains has been evaluated as a protein source for young chicks. Four diets were employed : the first was a control maize‐soybean diet supplemented with methionine; the second was similar to the control diet except that 10% bacterial protein was included largely at the expense of soybean; the third, a low‐protein diet, was identical to the second in all respects except that the bacterial protein source was substituted by an equivalent weight of ground maize ; the fourth consisted mainly of maize and dried whole egg served as an additional control diet.

There were no significant differences in growth, efficiency of food conversion or nitrogen retention between the control group and the group receiving the bacterial protein. Furthermore, chicks in these two groups performed significantly better than either those fed on the low‐protein diet or those fed on the whole egg diet.

Amino acid and uric acid concentrations in plasma were similar in the control and bacterial protein groups although levels tended to be lower in chicks consuming the low‐protein diet. Activities of glutamic‐oxalacetic and glutamic‐pyruvic transaminases in plasma were similar in all dietary groups.

These results suggest that the strain of methane‐oxidising bacteria used in the present study is potentially a useful source of protein for non‐ruminant animals.  相似文献

1. The gross composition of Lathyrus sativus was examined, and its use as a foodstuff for growing chicks over time as well as the influence of supplementation with certain amino acid combinations were studied.

2. Chemical analyses indicated lathyrus to be high in crude protein with adequate concentrations of most inorganic elements and amino acids except methionine and cystine.

3. The performance of growing chicks fed 800 g/kg lathyrus over a four week period was significantly poorer than those given a wheat/ soyabean meal‐based diet (P<0.05), but there appeared to be some adaptation to the antinutritive factors in the lathyrus.

4. Chick performance was markedly improved by dietary methionine supplementation alone (P<0.05); it was slightly better when trypto‐phan was added in combination with methionine but was still inferior to that on a wheat/soyabean meal‐based diet.

5. Supplementation of lathyrus‐based diets with methionine and tryto‐phan may improve chick performance, but it is not sufficient to overcome the effects of antinutritive factors in the legume.  相似文献

The quantitative nature of specific interactions between certain indispensable amino acids has been examined in a series of factorial experiments with young chicks.

It was demonstrated that when the dietary concentration of lysine was 1.10 per cent, the arginine requirement of the chick was 0.80 per cent. When the lysine concentration was raised to 1.35, 1.60 or 1.85 per cent of the diet, the arginine requirement was increased to 0.92, 1.04 and 1.15 per cent of the diet respectively. In another experiment, it was found that when due importance had been attached to the interaction between lysine and arginine, the requirements for these amino acids could be lowered to 0.94 per cent and 0.81 per cent respectively. These concentrations are considerably lower than those normally recommended for young chicks.

The interrelationship between leucine and isoleucine has also been defined in quantitative terms. At concentrations of 1.40, 2.15 or 2.90 per cent leucine, the isoleucine requirement was 0.58, 0.62 and 0.65 per cent of the diet respectively.

In a further study, a similar dependence of valine requirements upon the dietary concentration of leucine was observed: at concentrations of 1.40, 2.40 or 3.40 per cent leucine, the valine requirement was shown to be 0.77, 0.89 and 1.01 per cent respectively. The results of the experiment on the threonine‐tryptophan interaction indicated that at concentrations of 0.80, 1.30, 1.80 or 2.30 per cent threonine, the tryptophan requirement was 0.17, 0.18, 0.19 and 0.20 per cent of the diet respectively.

The results of the present study permit the general conclusion that the requirements of amino acids are interdependent.  相似文献

1. An experiment was conducted to analyse the changes in free amino acid concentrations in the blood, brain and muscle of chicks in response to 15 or 30 min exposure to high ambient temperature (HT).

2. Food intake and body weight were not affected, while rectal temperature was significantly increased by short-term HT exposure.

3. Several free amino acid concentrations increased in the blood, brain and muscle even with short-term HT, whereas levels of a few amino acids declined significantly. As well as the nonessential amino acids, essential amino acids also significantly increased with exposure to HT.

4. 3-Methylhistidine, a marker of proteolysis, significantly declined in the muscle of HT chicks, implying a reduction of protein breakdown under HT.

5. These results indicate that alteration of protein metabolism may occur in chicks even with short-term heat exposure.  相似文献
