The benefits of conservation agriculture (CA) and associated technologies are not equal for all agro ecosystems. This study used a field experiment to examine winter-wheat yield and weeds under conservational and conventional systems in the central region of Spain. The three tillage treatments were conventional tillage (CT), minimum tillage (MT) and no-tillage (NT). The climatic conditions influenced wheat yield, yield components, soil water content and weeds. When the autumn-winter rainfall was abundant and constant (69.7% of annual rainfall), wheat grain yield (4465?kg?ha?1) and yield components (3897?kg?ha?1 of straw biomass and 584.5 ear m?2) were highest. Wheat grain yield was highest with NT: 3549.9?kg?ha?1 (compared to MT: 2955.1?kg?ha?1 and CT: 2950.3?kg?ha?1) and ear number per m2 was significantly lower with MT (332 no ear m?2, compared to 426 and 411.6?ear?m?2 in CT and NT-systems respectively). Soil water content, at earing stage, was the highest in NT (27.36% of soil moisture) while MT showed the lowest content (11.83% of soil moisture). The higher weed measurements (means of 2.557 plants m?2; 1.443 species m?2 and 2.536 g m?2) was with higher annual rainfall (488?mm). Throughout the experiment it was the dominant presence, in MT-wheat plots, of Lolium rigidum Gaudin (with means from 4.87 to 7.71 plants m?2), which reduced the ear number per m2. Our study revealed that in the short term, under semi-arid conditions, only the adoption of NT system (rather than MT) showed economic benefits.  相似文献

In Europe, sugar beet is often produced in a 3‐year rotation with cereals, leaving stubble fields fallow from cereal harvest until primary tillage in autumn in the year prior to sugar beet production. The weed flora on such fields could include host plants of Heterodera schachtii that is one of the most important pests of sugar beet. Crop sequences with non‐hosts and cover cropping with resistant cruciferous hosts during this period have been crucial for its management. Availability of resistant and tolerant sugar beet cultivars could entice growers to forego cover cropping, exacerbating weed problems during the fallow period. The objective of this study was to determine the reproductive potential of H. schachtii on weeds that develop during this period. Under glasshouse conditions, reproduction on 39 plant species was compared with that on oilseed radish and sugar beet of differing nematode host status. In 2 years in field microplots, 18 previously tested species were grown in H. schachtii‐infested soil during the typical fallow period at 60 plants m?2, and nine of these species were also grown at 180 plants m?2. There were variable results between years after 8 weeks of growth, but most weeds allowed lower reproduction (<10%) than the susceptible sugar beet; only Stellaria media at 180 plants m?2 and Thlaspi arvense at both plant densities increased nematodes. Such weed densities may seldom occur under commercial conditions; thus, weed management for nematological considerations during the stubble period may have limited importance.  相似文献

Soil erosion and dust storms are the main causes of air pollution in regions where there are dust emitting centers and in their adjacent locations. In recent years, various methods have been considered for stabilizing soil surface against wind erosion. In this study, the effects of two stabilizers (anionic polyacrylamide polymer and vegetable-based mulch) for reducing soil loss at four levels of concentration (0, 15%, 30%, and 60%) on three kinds of soils in western Khuzestan, Iran have been studied. The study was conducted in natural and laboratory-based conditions in four, time intervals (0, 3, 6, and 12 months). Moreover, the study covered the persistence and influence of stabilizers on soil chemical properties. The results showed that wind erosion in no treatment was between of 16.36?kg/m2/hand 26.73?kg/m2/?h. The statistical results showed that there was a significant difference between the no treatment and soils treated with stabilizers. The polymer reduced soil loss by more than 90%. Mulch efficiency reduced in natural conditions after 6?months; however, there were no changes in laboratory conditions. There was no significant difference between polymer efficiency in the laboratory and natural conditions and the polymer was resistant in natural and laboratory conditions. Polymer increased EC, pH, and SAR in the soil after 1 year. Mulch decreased pH and SAR but did not change EC.  相似文献

Atrazine carryover often limits growers to production of atrazine-tolerant crops the year following application, and allows the increase of triazine-tolerant weed species such as Panicum miliaceum L. (wild proso millet). Tiriazine-resistant Brassica napus L. cv. ‘Triton’ (oilseed rape) was tested to characterize the nature of interspecific interference with P. miliaceum. In a greenhouse study, atrazine at 2.2 kg ha?1 depressed oilseed rape fruit (siliqua) number and fruit dry weight, and delayed flowering, but did not significantly affect height or weight of shoots, Oilseed rape fruit weight was reduced at 200 P. miliaceum plants m?2. fruit number and shoot weight were inhibited at 400 weeds m?2. and height was reduced and flowering delayed at 600 weeds m?2. Number and weight of fruits were reduced by one-third after 8 weeks of interference as compared to oilseed rape grown with the weed for 4 weeks. Oilseed rape height was reduced by 29% and shoot weight by 55% by 600 weeds m?2 and 2–2 kg ha?1 atrazine, while fruit number and weight were reduced by 72%. Oilseed rape shoot weight was reduced by 74% by 600 weeds m?2 for 12 weeks of interference, while fruit number and weight were reduced by 85% and 82%. respectively. In a field study, fluazifop reduced early season P. miliaceum cover by 72%, but did not increase oilseed rape cover. Mid-season P. miliaceum shoot weight was decreased by 97% by fluazifop and oilseed rape shoot weight was increased by 34%. P. miliaceum control increased oilseed rape biomass by 38% at 89 days, but biomass of oilseed rape sown at 11.2 kg ha?1 with 2.2 kg atrazine ha?1 was not decreased by P. miliaceum interference at 89 days.  相似文献

Accurately mapping and monitoring the spatial distribution pattern of soil salinity is essential for sustainable soil management and decision-making. The kriging-based interpolation technique is generally used to map the spatial distribution of soil salinity; however, this technique neglects the variation caused by interpolation for each unsampled location. The sequential gaussian simulation (SGS) is an effective tool to collect mapping uncertainties at several locations simultaneously, which is not possible in the kriging-based technique. Soil electrical conductivity has been widely used as an index for soil salinity. Based on 0–100?cm soil profile from 117 locations in the Manas River basin, Northwest China, the SGS algorithm was used to assess the uncertainty of the spatial distribution of soil electrical conductivity. It was found that the SGS algorithm was reliable in reproducing the spatial distribution of soil electrical conductivity. The SGS algorithm reproduced the sample statistics reasonably well. The standard deviations of the samples generated by the SGS algorithm (0.463–0.508 (dS m?1)) were closer to the actual samples (0.675 (dS m?1)) than those generated by kriging (0.454 (dS m?1)). Most of the study area was lightly affected by salinity. Around 30% of the study area was moderately affected, and the heavily affected areas were sporadically scattered across the study area. The spatial uncertainty at multiple point presented a declining trend as the critical probability at a single point increased. The spatial estimation of the soil electrical conductivity in multiple point was more robust than that in the local location because of the low uncertainty.  相似文献

Abstract

Plant parasitic nematodes are among the most destructive plant pathogens worldwide and their control is very challenging. Plant essential oils (EOs) have showed a great potential in nematode control. In this work, EOs from 10 aromatic plants acclimatized in Togo were assessed in vitro for their nematicidal activity on the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. EOs were subsequently analyzed by GC-MS and compounds were tested individually on nematodes. The most potent EOs were: Ocimum sanctum L., Cymbopogon schoenanthus (L.) Spreng and Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume with EC50/72h values of 282?±?53, 288?±?30 and 355?±?126?mg/L, respectively. The EC50/48h values of tested compounds were 81?±?14, 117?±?33, 128?±?42, 141?±?47, 168?±?40, 216?±?86 and 235?±?43?mg/L for cinnamyl acetate, methyl eugenol, cinnamyl alcohol, acetyl eugenol, isoeugenol, eugenol and benzyl benzoate, respectively. Furthermore, we found a synergistic nematicidal activity when we combined phenylpropanoids compounds with carvone. EOs and their constituents described herein merit further studies, especially in pot experiments before serving as nematicides.  相似文献

A 5-year field study was conducted on the effect of plant residue management on soil erosion, runoff, bulk density, penetration resistance, and organic carbon. There were three treatments: burning residues on field (BR), returning residues unto the soil surface after harvesting (TR), and removing residues from soil surface (RR) (control treatment). At the end of the 5-year treatment, a rainfall simulation at 90?mm?h?1 was applied to each plot. After rainfall simulation started, the runoff volume and soil loss amount in samples were collected at four sampling times. The results showed that the runoff volume for BR (from 145.5?±?12.2 to 190.0?±?11.8?mL) differed significantly (p?≤?0.01) from that of RR (from 32.3?±?5.5 to 67.5?±?11.1?mL) and TR (from 10.0?±?0.7 to 16.7?±?3.3?mL). A significant difference (p?≤?0.01) was also observed between RR and TR regarding runoff volume and soil loss amount in different sampling times, except for the first sampling time (2–4?min). The runoff volume in BR and TR was 215% higher and 294% lower than that of the control (RR), respectively. As compared to the control (RR), soil loss decreased by 96.5% in TR but increased by 192% in BR. The BR increased soil bulk density and penetration resistance by 4.9% and 12.4%, whereas TR reduced them by 2.1% and 15.8%, respectively, as compared to the control (RR). The results indicated that the highest (0.35) and lowest (0.03) runoff coefficients were obtained for BR and TR treatments, respectively. It is concluded that returning plant residues to soil is the best residue management practice in decreasing soil runoff volume and controlling soil erosion in semi-arid regions.  相似文献

A method was developed for the extraction and HPLC analysis of the plant growth regulator maleic hydrazide (MH) from garlic bulbs. Recovery of MH from fortified garlic tissue was 75.8(±6.1)% at the 1 and 2 mg kg?1 fortification levels. MH residues were determined by HPLC in cloves of garlic bulbs following treatment at three sites in southern Ontario with foliar applications at 3.75 kg ha?1. MH residues in the cloves were in the order of 3 mg kg?1 at two sites, and 11 mg kg?1 at the third side.  相似文献

The aim of small-site experiments carried out in the area of the foothills of the ?umava Mts. was to determine the etiological agent of the disease of meadow peavine (Lathyrus pratensis L.). The experimental locality (Kaplice-Chuchelec) was situated in an altitude of 655?m a.s.l. The investigation was accomplished in the years 2004–2005. During the vegetation period we observed whitish to grey-white soft cover of mycelium on the leaves of meadow peavine. These characteristic symptoms of powdery mildew (Erysiphe trifolii Grev.) were found on the plants in the observed area at the end of summer and in autumn. In the area of interest with permanent grassland we evaluated the following variants: first M – mulched stands (mulched once), second L – fallow stands, third K – mown stands (mowing once to three times), and fourth P – pasture stands (grazed by cattle twice to four times). The observed stands were managed in different ways from 2000, and in relation to the ways and intensity of management we observed the changes and coverage of creeping legumes including Lathyrus pratensis. Phytopathological analysis of plants with the symptoms of Erysiphe fungi attack was accomplished in all variants and repetitions during the whole vegetation period. The observation of particular variants was carried out in four repetitions, the size of the sites being 30?m2 (4?×?30?m2), and we evaluated the total number of Lathyrus pratensis plants as well as the number of the plants attacked by powdery mildew. Powdery mildew occurrence on Lathyrus pratensis at different management methods of grass stands was statistically processed (in STATISTICA program). The three-year investigation of Lathyrus pratensis L. yielded statistical evidence that the most significant growth of fungal disease Erysiphe trifolii Grev. was recorded in fallow stands. On the other hand, the least occurrence of the disease was found in the pasture stands, which were grazed by the cattle.  相似文献

Four tests were carried out in 1980 and 1981 to determine: (a) the economic threshold density of Abutilon theophrasti Medicus (velvetleaf) in maize, and (b) seed production with varying densities of infestation, both in the presence and in the absence of maize. The infestation was artificially created, and the density of the weed ranged from 0 to 80 plants m?2. The economic threshold, calculated using the Cousens (1987) model, varied between 0?3 plants m?2 and 2?4 plants m?2, depending on the variables considered. The presence of maize reduced the seed-rain of A. theophrasti by 50%. This seed-rain reached its maximum level at 20–30 plants m?2 in maize, and at 30–35 plants m?2 in weed monoculture. However, with only 4–5 plants m?2 in competition with maize, A. theophrasti produced 8–10 thousand seeds m?2. The usefulness of threshold density in weed management is debatable when one considers the ecological characteristics of the A. theophrasti seed, and the great capacity of seed production of this weed.  相似文献

Weeds are a major biotic constraint; compete with crop for the same resources and ultimately reduce productivity. This study evaluated the impact of irrigation intervals and weed management treatments on chlorophyll content and morphological growth of tomato to find an appropriate integrated weed management strategy. Two-year field experiments (2018/2019) were conducted at district Mardan (34°15′38″ N and 72°6′36″ E). Tomato F1 hybrid (Taj?3592) was transplanted during March. The experiments were laid out in a randomized complete-block design in split-plot arrangement with three replications. The main block comprised three irrigation intervals (3, 6, and 9 days) and the sub-block included weed management treatments: transparent polythene, black polythene, weeding except Orobanche, sole weeding of Orobanche, weeding of all weeds, copper oxychloride 1.5?kg a.i ha?1 (single dose), copper oxychloride 1.5?kg a.i ha?1 (split doses), copper oxychloride?+?humic acid 25?kg ha?1 (single dose), copper oxychloride?+?humic acid 25?kg ha?1 (split doses), copper sulphate 2?kg ha?1 (single dose), copper sulphate 2?kg ha?1 (split doses), ammonium sulphate 200?kg ha?1 (single dose), ammonium sulphate 200?kg ha?1 (split doses), pendimethalin 33 EC 1.44?kg a.i ha?1, glyphosate 48 SL 1.5?kg a.i ha?1, and weedy check. Lowest relative weed density (RWD) of O. cernua (2.23%) and highest RWD of O. cernua (38.01%) were recorded in the 3? and 9?day irrigation intervals, respectively. However, 3?day irrigation interval resulted in highest fresh weed biomass (5794?kg ha?1). Moreover, the 6?day irrigation interval significantly increased chlorophyll content by 11 and 5%, leaf area by 23 and 6%, and number of branches plant?1 by 30 and 22% compared to 9? and 3?day irrigation intervals, respectively. Among the weed management treatments, black polythene resulted in the highest weed control efficiency (96%), increasing chlorophyll content by 16%, leaf area by 33%, and number of branches plant?1 by 64% vs. weedy check. Consequently, 6?day irrigation intervals?×?black polythene could be the best weed management strategy, followed by transparent polythene, weeding of all weeds, pendimethalin, glyphosate, and ammonium sulphate.

Methamidophos (O,S-dimethylphosphoramidothioate, Monitor) is an organophosphorus, cholinesterase-inhibiting insecticide. The rate constant (ki) for inhibiting rat plasma cholinesterase (ChE) was 1.57 ± 0.03 × 103M?1 min?1, for rat erythrocyte ChE was 8.86 ± 1.10 × 103M?1 min?1, and for rat brain ChE was 6.58 ± 0.42 M?1 min?1. Brain and plasma cholinesterases spontaneously recovered from over 90% inhibition at 30 min to 50% inhibition in 4 and 14 hr, respectively. Pralidoxime increased the rate of reactivation in vitro. In vivo, rats poisoned with methamidophos exhibited signs of cholinergic stimulation. The LD50 of ip methamidophos in male rats was 15 ± 0.7 mg/kg. Pralidoxime (60 mg/kg) and atropine (10 mg/kg) given with the methamidophos increased the LD50 to 52 ± 4.9 mg/kg and 60 ± 0.4 mg/kg, respectively. In rats given 12.5 mg methamidophos (an LD20), ChE activity was depressed 95 ± 12.5% in plasma, 92 ± 0.6% in stomach, and 88 ± 1% in brain at 1 hr after injection. At 48 hr after injection ChE activity had returned to 60% or more of control values in each of the tissues. Administration of a single dose of 60 mg/kg of pralidoxime along with methamidophos did not increase ChE activities at the times and places it was measured.  相似文献

The effects of different populations of volunteer winter wheal and their control with ethofumesate and TCA on growth, seed yield and yield components of S.24 perennial ryegrass were investigated in lield experiments in 1978 and 1979. Reductions in ryegrass seed yield due to the presence of wheat depended on the density of wheat and the number and dry weight of ryegrass tillers. The greatest percentage reduction in ryegrass seed yield occurred at high densities of wheat (300 plants m?2) when the number of ear-bearing tillers and 1000 seed weight of ryegrass were reduced. When Ihe density of wheat was low (80 plants m?2) a smaller reduction in ryegrass seed yield occurred and the number of live wheat plants remaining gradually decreased. Within the range of wheat densities in these experiments (0–300 plants m ?2) a 1% loss in ryegrass seed yield occurred for every 10 wheal plants m?2 present in the crop post winter. Both herbicides caused a reduction in number of ryegrass tillers during growth but, except where TCA was applied at 12 kg ha?1 in November, ryegrass seed yields were not significantly reduced (in comparison with a wheat-free control) and were always greater than those obtained in the presence of wheat where no herbicides had been applied. Levels of volunteer infestation of 300 wheat plants m?2 were controlled with minimum risk of crop damage by applications of 6 kg ha?1 TCA in either October or November, or by application of 1–9 kg ha?1 ethofumesate in November.  相似文献

Conventional tillage practices used on the Loess Plateau lead to different soil surface micro-topography which results in forming two types of soil crusts. The objective of this study was to explore the formation position, properties and erosion characteristics of structural crusts and depositional crusts under the influences of the microtopography in the rainfall experiments. Two simulated rainstorms were applied in the experiments. The first rainfall event was used for soil crust formation, then the following simulated rainfall storms at 40 mm h?1, 60 mm h?1, and 80 mm h?1 rates were applied to the soil boxes set to a 17.6% (10°) slope under three tillage types (contour tillage, artificial digging, and straight slope conditions) to investigate the resulting runoff discharge rate and sediment yield on crusted soil surface. Results show that: (1) structural crusts formed on the mounds, and depositional crusts formed in the depressions after the first rainfall events; structural crusts exhibit a lower thickness, bulk density, higher porosity and shear strength than depositional crusts; (2) structural crusts increased the runoff yield less and decreased the sediment yield more than depositional crusts; and (3) the runoff yield was significantly greater, and the sediment yield was lower on the crusted soil surface than that on the uncrusted soil surface, regardless of the effect of the tillage treatments.  相似文献

Broadcast sprays of several herbicides were applied at different times of the year at several sites in Hawkes Bay, Canterbury and Otago. For good thistle control, date of application was more important than types of herbicide. In Hawkes Bay, applications made in April, May and June tended to be the most effective. Under slightly cooler Canterbury conditions, April, September and October were the best application dates. In the Otago trials, spring emergence of thistle seedlings meant that the most consistent results came from September or October applications. At all sites, applications made in July or August were relatively ineffective, probably because of low winter temperatures and slow thistle growth rates. MCPA (potassium salt) at 1·0 kg ha?1 was the standard herbicide used in all experiments. MCPA at 0·5 kg ha?1, MCPB (sodium salt) at 0·5 and 1·0 kg ha?1 and 2,4-D at 0·5 kg ha?1 did not kill as many thistles as MCPA at 1·0 kg ha?1. MCPA at 1·5 kg ha?1 and MCPB (butyl) ester + clopyralid at 0·5 + 0·015 or 1·0+0·03 kg ha?1 gave consistently better control than MCPA at 1·0 kg ha?1 2,4-D at 1·0 or 1·5 kg ha?1, MCPB at 1·5 or 2·0 kg ha?1, and MCPA + MCPB at 0·33 + 1·0 or 0·67 + 0·5 kg ha?1 gave results very similar to MCPA at 1 kg ha?1. Thistle control varied between sites and years. Some of the variation may have been due to different proportions of first and second year thistles present at spraying, and to variation in genetically determined herbicide susceptibility. Chemical control of thistles was short term only, because of dormant seeds in the soil.  相似文献

The effects of low-volume ventilation on the persistence and biological efficacy of chlorpyrifos-methyl applied to English wheat were investigated. Four 20-tonne batches of wheat were treated with a dose of 2.5 mg kg?1 chlorpyrifos-methyl. After treatment, two of the batches were aerated continuously at a rate of 17 m3 h?1 tonne?1 (10 cfm tonne?1) for 16 weeks. The remaining two batches were not aerated. Samples were collected from both aerated and non-aerated wheat at intervals over the 16-week storage period and subjected to biological assay using laboratory multi-organophosphorus-resistant strains of Tribolium castaneum, Sitophilus granarius, Sitophilus oryzae and Oryzaephilus surinamensis. The samples were also analysed for chlorpyrifos-methyl residues. No differences in either the biological efficacy or the rate of chemical decomposition were detected between the aerated and non-aerated wheat.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Clomazone is a popular herbicide used on California rice fields and exhibits rapid anaerobic microbial degradation (t1/2 = 7.9 days). To test the potential of direct and indirect photolytic degradation as a cofactor in the overall degradation rate, sacrificial time‐series microcosms were amended with water, non‐sterilized soil + water and sterilized soil + water. Clomazone was added to each microcosm, which was then exposed to natural and artificial sunlight over 35 days. Water and acetonitrile extracts were analyzed for clomazone and metabolites via LC/MS/MS. RESULTS: The calculated pseudo‐first‐order degradation rate constants (k) were kwater = 0–0.005 ± 0.003 day?1, ksterile = 0–0.005 ± 0.003 day?1 and knon?sterile = 0.010 ± 0.002–0.044 ± 0.007 day?1, depending on light type. The formation of ring‐open clomazone, a microbial metabolite, correlated with clomazone degradation. Trace amounts of 5‐hydroxyclomazone (m/z = 256 → 125), aromatic hydroxyclomazone (m/z = 256 → 141) and an unknown product (m/z = 268 → 125) were observed. CONCLUSIONS: The photolytic degradation rate depends on both light type and the quality of the chromophores that induce indirect photolysis. Microbial degradation was found to be sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Overall, microbes are shown to be more detrimental to the environmental fate of clomazone than photolysis. Soil fertility in the Lubumbashi region often proves to be limiting factor for crop production due to their low nutrient reserves. The objective of this work was to evaluate the impact of arbuscular mycorrhizae on phosphorus uptake by maize on Ferralsol. The trial was conducted in pots with 30?kg or 60?kg of P2O5 ha?1 and a control. These three levels of phosphorus were combined or not with arbuscular mycorrhizae. The combinations of 30?kg or 60?kg of phosphorus with the inoculum led to a male flowering of maize at 63 days after semi. Maize treated with 60?kg of phosphorus ha?1 formed very few or almost no blisters in the roots. Cob weight, length, diameter, number of rows and kernel weight varied significantly with phosphorus on both inoculated and uninoculated pots. The inoculated plants had high averages for these yield parameters. Due to the lack of phosphate fertilizer, inoculum alone can be an alternative to phosphorus provided that nitrogen and potassium are added, resulting in small but seed-filled ears compared to the phosphorus-free control without mycorrhizae, which resulted in empty ears. Yield varied significantly with the addition of phosphorus (0.3 to 6.1 tons ha?1) and less significantly with inoculum (3 to 3.7?t ha?1). The combination of treatments showed a significant difference in favour of the 60?kg of phosphorus or 60?kg of phosphorus associated with the inoculum. The highest phosphorus content was obtained on the inoculum treatment alone, which provided 1.4?mg phosphorus?g?1 maize compared to other treatments, which provided 0.69 to 0.71?mg phosphorus?g?1 maize.

Fluazifop-butyl, haloxyfop and sethoxydim with adjuvant oil were applied for three successive growing seasons to established strawberries infested with Elymus repens. The weed was virtually eradicated by three applications of haloxyfop (0.8 kg a.e. ha?1) in successive years. A similar effect was given by five applications of haloxyfop (0.4 kg a.e. ha?1) and fluazifop-butyl (1.6 kg AI ha?1) in three growing seasons. Lower rates of haloxyfop and fluazifop-butyl, and a high rate of sethoxydim (1.6 kg AI ha?1) applied five times were less effective, the ground cover of E. repens shoots not being reduced by the end of the experiment although weight of living rhizome was only 10-30% of that on untreated plots. Fruit yields on treated plots generally reflected the level of E. repens control, but there was some evidence of crop phytotoxicity from herbicide treatments. During the experiment E. repens untreated plots increased from about 30-100% ground cover and reduced yield 13, 28 and 68% in successive years compared with weed-free plots.  相似文献

Off-target glyphosate deposits were measured downwind of aerial silvicultural applications which used D8-46 hollow-cone hydraulic nozzles, ‘Micronair’ AU 5000 rotary atomisers, and the ‘Thru Valve Boom’ (030), with volume application rates of 35, 20 and 20 litre ha?1 respectively, and a glyphosate application rate of 2·1 kg ha?1. Crosswind spray lines were released 10 m above ground level over a short forest canopy, from a fixed-wing aircraft flying at 45 m s 1 in atmospheric boundary layers with average wind speeds and air temperatures of 2·2-3·7 m s?1 and 8-23°C at release height. Ground sheets and artificial foliage clusters were exposed at downwind distances of between 50 and 300 m. Glyphosate deposit measurements at various downwind distances (x) were fitted with non-linear regression lines; deposits were attenuated at rates inversely proportional to x at powers of 1·3-2·3. For a particular trial, deposits on ground sheets and artificial foliage were generally similar, and ranged between 19 and 0·04 mg m?2 over the sampling distances used. For 100-ha applications the estimated buffer-zone widths around water bodies were less than 50 m, whereas those around non-target vegetation ranged between 75 and 1200 m, depending on the application method and the meteorological conditions.  相似文献
