A new antiplasmodial coumarin from Toddalia asiatica roots

A new antiplasmodial coumarin, 5,7-dimethoxy-8-(3'-hydroxy-3'methyl-1'-butene)-coumarin (1), has been isolated from the roots of Toddalia asiatica. This finding supports the traditional use of this plant for the treatment of malaria.     

A new ent-kaurane diterpenoid from Rabdosia pseudo-irrorata

A new kaurenoid, ent-3β,7α,14β-trihydroxykaur-16-ene-12,15-dione (1), named pseurata G, was isolated from the ethanol extract of the whole plant of Rabdosia pseudo-irrorata.     

A new diterpene dimer from the bark ofChamaecyparis obtusa

This paper describes characterization of diterpenes of the bark of Japanese cypress,Chamaecyparis obtusa (S. and Z.) Endl, without the resinous stem canker to learn the difference between the cypress bark affected with the canker. A diterpene dimer and two diterpenes, 6,12-dihydroxyabieta-8,11,13-trien-7-one and 6,12-dihydroxyabieta-5,8,11, 13-tetraen-7-one, were firstly isolated from Japanese cypress. The dimer, 6-(abieta-6,8,11, 13-tetraenyl-12-oxy)-7-methoxyabieta-8,11,13-trien-12-ol, was a new compound. It is a terpene indicative ofC. obtusa not infected with the resinous stem canker. Five known diterpenes were also isolated.     

New coumarins from Cedrelopsis grevei

Two new coumarins, 7-methoxy-5-prenylcoumarin (isocedrelopsin) (1) and 3',4'-dihydrobraylin (2), were isolated from the trunk bark of Cedrelopsis grevei, along with five known coumarins, microfolicoumarin (6,7-dimethoxy-5-prenylcoumarin, (3), obliquin (4), 8-methoxyobliquin (5), aesculetin (6), cedrelopsin (7) and scoparone (8).     

A new coumarin from Sarcandra glabra

Sarcandracoumarin (1), the first coumarin having a 1-phenylethyl substituent at the C-3 position, was isolated along with eleven known phenolic compounds from the water extract of Sarcandra glabra. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. Compound 1 exhibited moderate or weak cytotoxicity against several tumor cell lines.     

A new norlignan from Taxodium ascendens

A new norlignan, (2R,3R,4S,5S)-2,4-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,5-dihydroxy-tetrahydropyran (1), together with 9 known compounds were isolated from the branches and leaves of Taxodium ascendens. Their structures were mainly determined on the basis of MS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR spectral evidences. Methanol extract showed inhibitory activity on carbonic anhydrase II with an IC₅₀ value of 4.27 µg/ml, acetone extract and methanol extract inhibited activity of cathepsin B with IC₅₀ values of 2.12 and 3.71 µg/ml, respectively.     

Two new diterpenoid acids from Pinus koraiensis

Two new diterpenoid acids were obtained from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Pinus koraiensis. By spectral evidence, the structure of the new compounds were elucidated as 7-oxo-13beta,15-dihydroxyabiet-8(14)-en-18-oic acid (1) and 7-oxo-12alpha, 13beta,15-trihydroxyabiet-8(14)-en-18-oic acid (2), respectively.     

A new labdane diterpene from Vitex cauliflora Moldenke from the Madagascar rainforest

Fractionation of an antiplasmodial ethanolic extract from the aerial parts of Vitex cauliflora led to the isolation of the new labdane diterpene 1 together with the known triterpene uvaol. The structure of the new compound 1 was established as 3-oxo,15,17,18-triacetoxy-labda-7,13E-diene on the basis of spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR, MS).     

A new nortriterpenoid from Rostrinucula dependens

A new nortriterpenoid rostrinucin (1), together with five known compounds were isolated from Rostrinucula dependens. The structure of 1 was elucidated by spectroscopic evidence.     

A new cardenolide from the roots of Streptocaulon tomentosum

A new cardenolide, (17 alpha)-H-periplogenin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-4)-2-O-acetyl-3-O-methyl-beta-fucopyranoside (1), was isolated from the roots of Streptocaulon tomentosum.     

A new benzophenanthridine alkaloid from Zanthoxylum buesgenii

A new benzophenanthridine alkaloid, 6-[2'-ethoxy-2'-(2',4',5'-trimethoxyphenyl)] ethyl-7,8-dimethoxy-5-methyl-2,3-methylenedioxy-5,6-dihydrobenzo[c]phenanthridine named buesgeniine (1), as well as the known decarine, were isolated from the extract of the stem bark of Zanthoxylum buesgenii. In addition, three known lignans, sesamine, matairesinol dimethylether, and methylpluviatilol, were also identified. The structure of 1 was elucidated using spectroscopic methods.     

A new steroid from Selaginella pulvinata

A new steroid, 3beta, 16alpha-dihydroxy-(5alpha)-cholestan-21-oic acid , was isolated from the aerial parts of Selaginella pulvinata. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectral analysis.     

New cassane diterpenes from Caesalpinia echinata

An investigation of the ethanolic extract from stems of Caesalpinia echinata Lam (Leguminosae-Caesalpinioideae) led to the isolation of five new cassane diterpenes along with known lambertianic acid. Their structures were determined based on spectroscopic methods. A preliminary study on leishmanicidal activity demonstrated that compounds 1, 2 and 6 were found to inhibit the growth of amastigote-like forms of Leishmania amazonensis without affecting mononuclear cells obtained from human peripheral blood.     

A new triterpenoid from Azadirachta indica

A new triterpenoid, 1α,7α-diacetoxyapotirucall-14-ene-3α,21,22,24,25-pentaol (1), and the two known compounds odoratone (2) and 2β,3β,4β-trihydroxypregnan-16-one (3) were isolated from a methanolic extract of the seed kernels of Azadirachta indica. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral methods.     

A new arylnaphthalene lignan from Knema furfuracea

A new arylnaphthalene lignan, named furfuracin (1), was isolated from the leaves of Knema furfuracea (Myristicaceae), whereas 7 known compounds including (+)-trans-1,2-dihydrodehydroguaiaretic acid, fragransin A₂, biochanin A, gingkolic acid, anarcardic acid, 2-hydroxy-6-(12-phenyldodecyl)-benzoic acid and 2-hydroxy-6-(12-phenyldodecen-8′Z-yl)-benzoic acid were obtained from its stems. The structure of the new lignan was established by analysis of spectroscopic data (UV, IR, MS and NMR).     

A new kaurane diterpene dimer from Parinari campestris

A new kaurane diterpene dimer, 15-oxozoapatlin-13alpha-yl-10'alpha,16'alpha-dihydroxy-9'alpha-methyl-20'-nor-kauran-19'-oic acid gamma-lactone-17'-oate (1), together with the known 13-hydroxy-15-oxozoapatlin (2), 10alpha,13alpha,16alpha,17-tetrahydroxy-9alpha-methyl-15-oxo-20-nor-kauran-19-oic acid gamma-lactone (3), 2alpha,10alpha,13alpha,16alpha,17-pentahydroxy-9alpha-methyl-15-oxo-20-nor-kauran-19-oic acid (19,10)-lactone (4), 3alpha,10alpha,13alpha,16alpha,17-pentahydroxy-9alpha-methyl-15-oxo-20-nor-kauran-19-oic acid gamma-lactone (5), and 1beta,16alpha,17-trihydroxy-ent-kaurane (6) were isolated from the leaves of Parinari campestris and identified on the basis of detailed spectral analysis, including 2D NMR spectrometry and ESI-MS.     

A new phenolic glycoside from Paeonia lactiflora

A new phenolic glycoside , 2-methoxy-5-(E)-propenyl-phenol-beta-vicianoside, was isolated from the root of Paeonia lactiflora. The structure of the new glycoside was elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods.     

A new cerebroside from Gynura divaricata

A new cerebroside, 1-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(2S,3S,4R,10E)-2-[(2′R)-2′-hydroxyltricosanoyl-amino]-10-octadecene-1,3,4-triol was isolated from the aerial parts of Gynura divaricata DC.     

A new C-methylated flavonoid glycoside from Pinus densiflora

A new C-methyl flavonol glycoside, 5,7,8,4'-tetrahydroxy-3-methoxy-6-methylflavone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), has been isolated from the needles of Pinus densiflora, together with kaempferol 3-O-beta-(6"-acetyl)-galactopyranoside.     

A new phytosterone from the roots of Achyranthes bidentata

A new phytosterone, (20R, 22R)-2beta, 3beta, 20, 22, 26-pentahydroxy-cholestan-7,12-dien-6-one (1), was isolated from the roots of Achyranthes bidentata. The structure was elucidated on the basis of spectral data.
