Isomers of pyrethroids usually have different insecticidal activities. Permethrin, a non‐cyano pyrethroid, is not an exception and cis‐permethrin is much more active than the trans‐isomer against Triatoma infestans, vector of Chagas' Disease in Argentina. The large‐scale separation of cis‐ and trans‐permethrin was performed by successive recrystallizations from ethanol‐water mixtures. An aqueous suspension concentrate (flowable) formulation of pure crystalline cis‐permethrin was prepared and assayed for its insecticidal activity on wood and ceramic surfaces against nymph V of T infestans. This formulation was at least three times more effective than deltamethrin, with LC50 values on ceramic of 0.11 µg cm−2 and 0.33 µg cm−2 respectively. On wood surfaces, the LC50 value was 0.57 µg cm−2 compared with 3.20 µg cm−2 for deltamethrin. Against other insect species such as Periplaneta americana, Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus, the suspension concentrate formulation of cis‐permethrin was, however, less effective than similar formulations of deltamethrin or β‐cypermethrin. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Downy mildew of pearl millet, caused by Sclerospora graminicola, is a devastating disease, resulting in high economic losses in the semi-arid regions of the world. Recently, induction of host plant resistance using biotic and abiotic inducers are included among disease management practices as an eco-friendly approach. Unsaturated fatty acids are considered as a new generation of plant disease resistance inducers. In the present study, six unsaturated fatty acids, viz. docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), arachidonic acid (AA), linolenic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid, all originally detected in the zoospores of S. graminicola, were applied to seeds of susceptible cultivars of pearl millet to examine their ability to protect against downy mildew under greenhouse and field conditions. In greenhouse experiments, EPA and AA induced a maximum of 78.6% and 76.5% protection, whereas linoleic acid, DHA and linolenic acid provided up to 66.3%, 61.2% and 24.5% protection, respectively. Oleic acid was not effective in protecting pearl millet (only 5.1% protection). A time interval of four days between treatment of seeds and challenge inoculation was required to obtain optimum protection. Plants raised from treated seeds and challenge inoculated at the tillering and inflorescence stages showed enhanced resistance, resulting in higher grain yield compared to untreated plants of the same cultivar. Chitinase activity was found to be higher in susceptible seedlings of pearl millet after treatment with the fatty acids and pathogen inoculation than in seedlings only inoculated with the pathogen. This indicates that host defence responses are activated and thus that induced resistance is involved in the protection observed. The role of unsaturated fatty acids as activators of resistance against downy mildew in pearl millet is discussed.  相似文献

The metabolism of cis- and trans-1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) was studied in soybean plants grown in soil treated 24 days prior to planting with [U-14C]E- and Z-1,3-dichloropropene at 380 liters ha?1. Isolation and identification of the 14C residue from soybean plants at 84 days (forage) and 176 days (mature) after application showed that no 1,3-dichloropropene or its putative metabolites, 3-chloroallyl alcohol and 3-chloroacrylic acid, could be detected in any of the tissues. The components of the 14C residue included major plant constituents (i.e. fatty acids, protein, pigments, organic acids, sucrose and other carbohydrates, and lignin).  相似文献

Boron is a microelement required for normal growth and development of plants but its positive effect is restricted to a narrow range of concentrations. The gradual increase in use of recycled water, which contains high concentrations of boron for irrigation, has already raised the level of boron in soils and plants in southern Israel. This research was conducted to examine the direct effects of sub‐phytotoxic boron concentrations on potato late blight epidemics and to explore the mode of action of boron against Phytophthora infestans. When boron was applied alone to field grown potato plants it did not affect the epidemic. However, together with a reduced rate of the fungicide Melody Duo (propineb + iprovalicarb), boron improved late blight suppression compared to plants treated with the fungicide alone. The ED50 of boron against P. infestans (256·4 mg L?1) was about 6400 times higher than the ED50 value of the fungicide chlorothalonil (0·04 mg L?1), indicating that boron does not have a direct fungicidal activity that would explain the level of protection seen in the field. In greenhouse experiments conducted with potted tomato plants, boron decreased late blight severity in both treated leaves and distant leaves not treated with boron. The results suggest that boron is active locally but also may induce systemic acquired resistance against P. infestans.  相似文献

The insecticidal activity of lauric, oleic and linoleic acids against Callosobruchus maculatus on cowpea was investigated in laboratory bioassays. In pre-oviposition grain treatments, it was found that, at dosages between 1.96 and 11.59 kg-lauric acid had no effect on progeny development, while the oily oleic and linoleic acids were active in reducing progeny development. The active fatty acids had no effect on oviposition (in no-choice experiments) or on mortality of adults or larvae that successfully penetrated treated cowpea seeds, and their insecticidal activity, like that of fixed vegetable oils, depended mainly on ovicidal action. When applied to cowpeas in a pure state, oleic acid had an LC50 value of 1.64mlkg?1, which made it approximately 3 and 8 times more toxic against eggs of C. maculatus than groundnut oil and linoleic acid respectively. When the ovicidal activities of the three fatty acids were tested by dipping egg-infested seeds in acetone- based solutions, they were all found to be similarly toxic, lauric, oleic and linoleic acids having LC50, values of 40, 38 and 26 ml litre?1 respectively (with overlapping 95% C.L.). These values made them 2-4 times more toxic than acetone-based solutions of groundnut and traditional coconut oils. The possibility of employing fatty acids in large-scale and traditional small-scale food storage systems is discussed.  相似文献

Phomalactone, 5,6‐dihydro‐5‐hydroxy‐6‐prop‐2‐enyl‐2H‐pyran‐2‐one, produced by the fungus Nigrospora sphaerica, was tested in vitro against nine plant pathogenic fungi, and specifically inhibited the mycelial growth of Phytophthora infestans, with an MIC value of 2.5 mg litre?1. Its inhibitory activities against sporangium and zoospore germination of P infestans were similar to those against Phytophthora capsici. In vivo, at 100 and 500 mg litre?1, it reduced the development of tomato late blight caused by P infestans. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Lipoxygenase (LOX) activity was measured in germinating pigeonpea Cajanus cajan seedlings, resistant (ICP-8863) and susceptible (ICP-2376) to wilt fungus, before and after infection with Fusarium udum. LOX activity was significantly higher in the resistant than in the susceptible cultivars of pigeonpea and was enhanced further in response to infection with Fusarium udum. This increase in LOX activity in the resistant cultivars of pigeonpea appears to be due to the induction of lipoxygenase isozymes in response to infection. Analysis of the endogenous LOX metabolites in pigeonpea seedlings revealed the predominant formation of 13-hydroperoxyoctadecadienoic acid (13-HPODE) in healthy seedlings and 13-hydroperoxyoctadecatrienoic acid (13-HPOTrE) in infected seedlings. Further studies on the effects of LOX metabolites on the growth and multiplication of Fusarium udum showed that HPOTrEs, LOX metabolites of -linolenic acid, are more anti-fungal compared to HPODEs, LOX metabolites of linoleic acid.  相似文献

A series of methyl esters of N-substituted (Z)- and (E)-maleamic acids were synthesized and their effect on food intake measured on fifth-instar nymphs of Triatoma infestans. Suppression of food intake was found only for the (Z)-isomers. The initial reaction rate of the synthesized compounds with glutathione (GSH) was calculated from the reaction in vitro of the (Z)-isomers. No reaction was observed with the (E)-isomers. Good correlation between the suppression of food intake, measured by its ED50 (effective dose that inhibited feeding of 50% of the population) and the initial reaction rate with GSH and the hydrophobic parameter π, was found. © of SCI.  相似文献

Tomato is challenged by several pathogens which cause loss of production. One such pathogen is the oomycete Phytophthora infestans which is able to attack all the aerial parts of the plant. Although a wide range of resistance sources are available, genetic control of this disease is not yet successful. Pyramiding R-genes through genetic transformation could be a straightforward way to produce tomato and potato lines carrying durable resistance to P. infestans. In this work the R1 potato gene was transferred into tomato lines. The tomato transgenic lines were analyzed by using q-RT-PCR and progeny segregation to determine the gene copy number. To test the hypothesis that R1 represents a specifically regulated R-gene, transgenic tomato plants were inoculated with P. infestans isolate 88133 and IPO. All the plants containing the R1 gene were resistant to the late blight isolate IPO-0 and susceptible to isolate 88133. These results provide evidence for specific activation of the R1 gene during pathogen challenge. Furthermore, evidence for enhancement of PR-1 gene expression during P. infestans resistance response was obtained.  相似文献

Severe potato and tomato late blight epidemics in Michigan since 2008 prompted characterization of Phytophthora infestans isolates from the region. From eight counties in Michigan, 124 isolates were collected from infected potato and tomato plants from 2008 to 2010 and characterized using ‘classical’ markers and microsatellites. The classical markers included mating type, Gpi allozyme, mitochondrial DNA haplotype, sensitivity to metalaxyl‐M and tuber pathogenicity. All isolates from 2008 to 2010 were A2 mating type and Ia mtDNA haplotype (124 isolates), 105 isolates had Gpi profile 100/122, 17 isolates had the profile 100/100/111 and the remaining two isolates had 100/111/122. Sensitivity to metalaxyl‐M, expressed as EC50 for mycelial growth in vitro, ranged from <0·1 to 91 μg mL?1, where 95 and 96% of isolates were classified as either sensitive or intermediate in 2008–2009 and 2010 respectively. The metalaxyl‐M sensitivity and dominant Gpi profile were typical of clonal lineage US‐22, first isolated in 2008 in North America from tomato plants. Tuber pathogenicity, characterized as severity of tuber late blight, was also variable among isolates; however, isolates were less aggressive than previous genotypes present in Michigan, such as US‐8. Microsatellites (simple sequence repeats; SSRs) revealed a shift in the population, characterized by two clusters differentiated over time. These results suggested displacement of the US‐8 genotype by US‐22 from 2008 to 2010 in Michigan. Continuous tracking of changes within P. infestans populations provides evidence of genetic shifts due to migration, prompting modification of management strategies based on the phenotypic characteristics of causal genotypes.  相似文献

Mycelial growth on clarified V8 agar of the potato late blight pathogenPhytophthora infestans was inhibited when either aluminum chloride (AlCl3, 6 H2O) or aluminum sulfate (Al2(SO4)3, 18 H2O) was added to the culture medium at concentrations of 2.5–100 mg.l–1 Al3+. Toxicity of Al3+ varied among the fiveP. infestans isolates tested, but toxicity of sulfate and chloride salts was similar for a given isolate. Overall sporangial production was affected in all five isolates by both Al3+ forms. Al3+ also decreased sporangial germination at concentrations equal to or greater than 10 mg.l–1 in two isolates. These data support the hypothesis of aluminum toxicity as a major factor in soil suppressiveness toP. infestans.  相似文献

Expression of the yeast Δ-9 desaturase gene in eggplant increased its levels of 16:1, 18:1, and 16:3 fatty acids and enhanced its resistance to Verticillium dahliae. Eggplants responded to V. dahliae inoculation with transitory upsurges in phospholipase A2and lipoxygenase activities, as well as levels of free fatty acids and lipid peroxides. The upsurges of certain fatty acids, in particular the 16:1 and 16:3 fatty acids, were more pronounced in the transgenic plants. cis -Δ9 16:1 was found to directly inhibit the growth of V. dahliae. The results suggest that increasing the production of 16:1 in plants could be an approach to enhance their resistance to fungal diseases  相似文献

Filtrates from shake-cultures of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici race 1, concentrated to 20% of the original volume, caused cell death in tomato leaf protoplasts from near-isogenic lines corresponding to the compatible cultivar/race reactions of whole plants. Maximum activity was found in late log phase cultures on Czapek-Dox supplemented with 2% casamino acids. Selective toxicity was associated only with the protein fraction of the culture filtrate. LD50 values for susceptible Ace and Moneycross to F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici race 1 culture filtrates were 1·92 and 0·36 μg protein ml−1. Corresponding values for cvs Royal Ace and MM161, each containing the I-gene conferring resistance to race 1, were >350. Culture filtrates from F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici race 2 gave LD50 values of 2·34 and 2·08 μg protein ml−1 on cvs Ace and Royal Ace, both susceptible to race 2. The LD50 of cv. Ace to a non-pathogenic isolate of F. xysporum f. sp. lycopersici was > 350. Culture filtrates from non-host formae of F. oxysporum were 9–149-fold less toxic on cv. Ace. Protoplasts from Pisum sativum, Lactuca sativa, Zea mays, Gossypium barbadense and Solanum melongena, all non-hosts of F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, were 6–175 times less sensitive to F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici filtrates than susceptible tomato. The putative toxins lycomarasmin and fusaric acid showed no differential toxicity to I+ and I tomato protoplasts. The results are discussed in the wider context of host-pathogen interaction in which specificity is considered as the recognition of susceptibility by a proteinaceous toxic metabolite of the pathogen. This hypothesis is further extended to include the specificity of F. oxysporum formae and races.  相似文献

Phytotoxic activity of several middle-chain fatty acids, especially pelargonic acid (C9 acid) was investigated. C9–C11 acids caused strong non-selective damage to plants such as crabgrass, cucumber, velvetleaf, and tobacco, while C6 and C14 fatty acids had almost no activity. Middle-chain fatty acids caused a strong and rapid electrolyte leakage. They reached highest conductivity in 3 h in the case of cucumber cotyledons. Middle-chain fatty acids caused a decrease of the amount of polar lipids, particularly MGDG and PG, and chlorophylls. They also caused an increase of free fatty acids in 24 h after treatment. These results suggested that middle-chain fatty acids caused severe damage to cell membranes and thylakoid membranes of treated leaves. C6 volatile compounds such as cis-3-hexenal, trans-2-hexenal, and cis-3-hexenol were generated in less than 1 h after spraying pelargonic acid to tobacco leaves. The application of pelargonic acid was thought to be the trigger for linolenic acid degradation in the thylakoid membranes.  相似文献

Metabolism in mice of the separated cis- and trans-isomers of the pyrethroid insecticide cypermethrin (NRDC 149), (RS)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (1RS)-cis, trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate, was investigated in each case with preparations that were 14C-labelled in the benzyl and cyclopropyl moieties. Radioactivity from the trans-isomer was mainly excreted in the urine and that from the cis-isomer in the faeces. Elimination of both isomers was rapid except for a small portion (approximately 2%) of the cis-isomer which was released from the fat with a half-life of approximately 13 days. Metabolism of cypermethrin occurred mainly by ester cleavage and elimination of the cis- and trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethyl- cyclopropanecarboxylic acid moieties as glucuronide conjugates. The α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol released by ester cleavage was mainly converted to 3-phenoxy-benzoic acid which was partly eliminated unchanged, partly conjugated with aminoacids (mainly taurine) and glucuronic acid, and partly oxidised to 3-(4-hydroxyphenoxy) benzoic acid which was excreted as the sulphate conjugate. Metabolites retaining the ester linkage were formed by hydroxylation at various sites in the molecule with more hydroxylation of the cis- than of the trans-isomer occurring.  相似文献

Thirteen tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) accessions were tested for inducibility of resistance against two isolates of Phytophthora infestans using BABA (dl ‐3‐amino butyric acid) as the inducing agent. In a more detailed trial, six of the accessions were assessed for inducibility of resistance to six P. infestans isolates on three leaves of different age per plant. Plants were inoculated 1 week after treatment with BABA. Area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC), sporulation capacity (SC) and infection efficiency (IE) were all affected by treatment with BABA. On leaves of all ages AUDPC was most affected by induction (43–100% reduction on the youngest leaves) followed by SC (14–100%) and IE (0–100% reduction). Tomato genotypes varied significantly in inducibility of resistance against P. infestans and the degree of induction generally decreased with increasing leaf age, whilst the absolute susceptibility with respect to AUDPC and SC rarely changed. The level of induction was not always related to the resistance level of the tomato accession and it was significantly influenced by the pathogen isolate used for challenge inoculation. The results show that inducibility of resistance is a selectable trait that is, however, isolate‐specific.  相似文献

Bacterial wilt is a serious problem affecting many important food crops. Recent studies have indicated that treatment with biotic or abiotic stress factors may increase the resistance of plants to bacterial infection. This study investigated the effects of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NP) on disease resistance in tomato plants against Ralstonia solanacearum, as well as its antibacterial activity. The roots of tomato seedlings were inoculated with R. solanacearum and then immediately treated with MgO NP; the treated plants showed very little inhibition of bacterial wilt. In contrast, when roots were drenched with a MgO NP suspension prior to inoculation with the pathogen, the incidence of disease was significantly reduced. Rapid generation of reactive oxygen species such as O2 radicals was observed in tomato roots treated with MgO NP. Further O2 was rapidly generated when tomato plant extracts or polyphenols were added to the MgO NP suspension, suggesting that the generation of O2 in tomato roots might be due to a reaction between MgO NP and polyphenols present in the roots. Salicylic acid‐inducible PR1, jasmonic acid‐inducible LoxA, ethylene‐inducible Osm, and systemic resistance‐related GluA were up‐regulated in both the roots and hypocotyls of tomato plants after treatment of the plant roots with MgO NP. Histochemical analyses showed that β‐1,3‐glucanase and tyloses accumulated in the xylem and apoplast of pith tissues of the hypocotyls after MgO NP treatment. These results indicate that MgO NP induces systemic resistance in tomato plants against R. solanacearum.  相似文献

Cellular fatty acids were analyzed to characterize and differentiate 34 isolates of Rhizoctonia species representing binucleate Rhizoctonia AG-D (I), AG-D (II), R. solani AG 2-2 IIIB, AG 2-2 LP, R. circinata var. circinata and var. oryzae associated with turfgrass diseases in Japan. Myristic, pentadecanoic, palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids were consistently present in varying quantities in all isolates. Heptadecanoic and 9-heptadecenoic acids were present in isolates of Rhizoctonia AG-D (I), AG-D (II), R. solani AG 2-2 IIIB and AG 2-2 LP but not in isolates of R. circinata var. circinata and var. oryzae. Palmitic, oleic and linoleic acids were the major fatty acids found, constituting 88.30-98.37% of the whole-cell fatty acid content. The remaining fatty acids were present in smaller amounts. Isolates within a single group were closely clustered, whereas isolates from different groups were clearly distinguishable based on average linkage cluster analysis of cellular fatty acids. Principal component analysis, based on all fatty acids detected, confirmed the distinct separation of isolates representing the six groups of Rhizoctonia species obtained from turfgrasses. These results suggested that fatty acid analysis is useful for the characterization and differentiation of isolates of Rhizoctonia species associated with turfgrass diseases.
