Cañahua (Chenopodium pallidicaule) is grown in the Altiplano of Bolivia and Peru, between 3810 and 4200 m a.s.l. Rural indigenous households have cultivated the cañahua as a subsistence crop for millennia. The seeds have a high content and quality of protein. We studied the relation between the following: (i) temperature and seed germination and (ii) the effect of temperature and sowing depth on seedling emergence of five cultivars and one landrace. Three experiments were conducted as follows: (i) seeds of a cultivar were germinated in Petri dishes at six temperatures (3, 5, 10, 14, 20 and 24 °C), (ii) sown at five depths (0, 5, 10, 25 and 50 mm) in a mixed peat soil substrate at three temperatures and (iii) one landrace (Lasta) and 5 cultivars (Lasta and Saihua growth habit) were sown in 6 depth (0, 5, 10, 25, 35 and 50 mm) in a sandy loam at two temperatures (5 and 15 °C). Temperature had significantly effect on the germination percentages of the plants (P < 0.001). Seeds germinated at the lowest temperature (3 °C). The estimated base temperature was close to 0 °C. A polynomial function described well the relation between time to 50% germination (t50) and temperature in the interval from 3 to 24 °C resulting in a linear relationship between germination rate and temperature. Shallow sowing depth (5–25 mm) resulted in 80% germination at 15 °C. There were significant differences of emergence in relationship to burial depth (P < 0.001). Only few seedlings emerged when seeds were sown at 50 mm depth. We did not find significant differences in emergence of seedlings between Lasta and Saihua at 15 °C. Nevertheless, at 5 °C, seedlings of cañahua belonging to the Lasta growth habit form did have higher germination rate as were shown for the Kullaca cultivar and the Umacutama landrace. Summary Pollination experiments were carried out on ulluco (Ullucus tuberosus), known as a very poor seed producer. All the clones used were diploids. The effect of self-vs. cross-pollination was studied in Experiment 1. Caged selfpollinated flowers produced no seeds. Different clones produced seeds in 0–8% of caged cross-pollinated flowers and in 5–19% of cross-pollinated non-caged flowers. Ulluco is thus basically an outbreeder.Experiment 2 studied whether seed set is limited by pollen availability. Total seed number per inflorescence number did not differ between plants treated with supplemental pollen and control plants; pollen availability thus did not limit seed set. The treated plants, however, produced more seeds in cross-pollinated than in other flowers on the plant, and the control flowers on treated plants produced fewer seeds than those on the control plants. In the treated plants, resources may have been allocated to artificially cross-pollinated flowers at the expense of other flowers. In some clones, seed set after artificial cross-pollination was at a level practicable for breeding work.  相似文献

以籼稻品种93-11为轮回亲本,与粳稻品种日本晴杂交并回交的高世代分离群体为研究材料,选用104个多态性的SSR标记对水稻的落粒性基因进行定位。结果表明,在BC4F2群体中,6个标记的基因型来自于日本晴;在BC4F3定位群体中,难落粒植株数与易落粒植株数的分离比例为3:1,落粒性受1对显性基因控制,命名为SH1;分子标记与落粒性共分离分析将SH1定位在SSR标记RM5389和RM1068、RM1387之间,与3个标记的遗传距离分别为0.7cM、5.5cM和13.1cM,此结果为该基因的分子标记辅助选择奠定了基础。  相似文献

蜜蜂授粉对农业生产具有非常重要的价值,为了研究不同蜂种授粉对茶叶品质的影响,本研究以茶树‘金茶1号’为研究对象,分别使用意大利蜜蜂(Apis mellifera Ligustica)、中华蜜蜂(Apis cerana cerana)与地熊蜂(Bombus terrestris)开展蜂媒授粉技术及增产提质影响研究。结果表明中蜂授粉组访花频率最高,意蜂授粉组柱头花粉数最高,地熊蜂授粉组单花访问时间最长。中蜂授粉能显著提升茶树的茶叶籽座果率与茶叶籽油茶多酚含量,但对茶叶籽的含油量影响不显著。意蜂授粉与地熊蜂授粉对座果率影响不显,但能显著提升茶叶籽的茶多酚含量与含油量,3个授粉组对茶叶籽油的主要成分并无显著影响。在实际中可以根据生产需要选择对应的蜂种进行授粉。  相似文献

Drought can drastically reduce cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] biomass and grain yield. The application of plant growth‐promoting rhizobacteria and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can confer resistance to plants and reduce the effects of environmental stresses, including drought. Seed coating is a technique which allows the application of minor amounts of microbial inocula. Main effects of the factors inoculation and water regime showed that: severe or moderate water deficit had a general negative impact on cowpea plants; total biomass production, seed weight and seed yield were enhanced in plants inoculated with P. putida; inoculation of R. irregularis significantly increased nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) shoot concentrations; and R. irregularis enhanced both chlorophyll b and carotenoids contents, particularly under severe water deficit. Plants inoculated with P. putida + R. irregularis had an increase in shoot P concentration of 85% and 57%, under moderate and severe water deficit, respectively. Singly inoculated P. putida improved potassium shoot concentration by 25% under moderate water deficit. Overall, in terms of agricultural productivity the inoculation of P. putida under water deficit might be promising. Seed coating has the potential to be used as a large‐scale delivery system of beneficial microbial inoculants.  相似文献

Bolivia is part of the eight most important centres of biodiversity and domestication of plants in the world, including a broad diversity of Andean grains, roots and tubers. A study was implemented to obtain the quantitative information to develop and validate, a simple growth potential model of Andean tubers in production areas located above 3000 m altitude, and to analyze the difference between species in growth attributes and the resulting tuber production. Three potato species and sub-species (Solanum tuberosum ssp. andigenum and ssp. tuberosum, and Solanum juzepczukii) as well as Oca (Oxalis tuberosa), Isaño (Tropaeolum tuberosum) and Papalisa (Ullucus tuberosus) were studied. Trials were conducted under normal field conditions prevailing in Bolivia but with the best cropping techniques available locally to obtain optimal growing conditions. Data on dry weight (of leaves, stems, tubers and roots) and leaf area were taken at several dates in five trials conducted between 1993 and 2003. The percentage of ground cover was also measured. Beta functions were fitted to data of dry weight and leaf area to establish growth curves. The potato groups have a smaller cycle duration than other Andean tubers. The Crop Growth Analysis indicated three important characteristics differentiating Andean tubers: the S. juzepczukii potato has a high Relative Growth Rate (RGR) and a higher leaf mass ratio but a smaller tuber yield, due to a smaller harvest index (HI) and a very low Net Assimilation Rate (NAR). S. tuberosum ssp. tuberosum potatoes have smaller Leaf Area Index (LAI), and RGR than juzepczukii, but their NAR and HI are higher. S. tuberosum potatoes are quite productive for the size of their LAI. The Tropaeolum tuberosum or Isaño has a great capacity of Ground Cover (GC) or a great LAI that is not translated into a greater tubers yield. It has low RGR, NAR and HI compared to all the other species studied. The crop growth was interpreted in Light Use Efficiency (LUE) and evolution of light interception through a linear model. The LUE of potato group is more elevated than the LUE of the other Andean tubers. Within each group there is no statistical difference for the LUE value. The relationship of LAI with GC or fraction of light interception was determined with both linear and exponential relations. The low slope value for the relationship between LAI and GC characterises all Andean tubers studied compared to results reported for potato under other latitudes.  相似文献

Summary Ulluco (Ullucus tuberosus) is a vegetatively propagated crop plant that flowers abundantly but sets only few seeds. We examined if the low seed/ovule ratio can be explained by morphological abnormalities in ovules, embryo sacs or embryos. In 35 clones growing in the actual area of cultivation in Ecuador and in 5 clones grown in Finland flowers were analysed by clearing technique. About half of all analysed clones contained ovules and embryo sacs whose development was arrested, in two clones there were embryo sacs whose cell patterns were abnormal and in four clones there were double embryo sacs. There were both normal and abnormal ovules and embryo sacs in the same plant. Genetic load is suggested to be one of the causes for the low sexual fertility found in ulluco. It may be incapable of maintaining homeostasis of development of the ovule and embryo sac in a varying environment. The occurrence of developmental abnormalities should be studied in each clone intended for inclusion in traditional breeding programmes.  相似文献

The determination of optimum crop management practices for increasing soybean production can provide valuable information for strategic planning in the tropics. However, this process is time consuming and expensive. The use of a dynamic crop simulation model can be an alternative option to help estimate yield levels under various growing conditions. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of the Cropping System Model (CSM)‐CROPGRO‐Soybean and to determine optimum management practices for soybean for growing conditions in the Phu Pha Man district, Thailand. Data from two soybean experiments that were conducted in 1991 at Chiang Mai University and in 2003 at Khon Kaen University were used to determine the cultivar coefficients for the cultivars CM 60 and SJ 5. The CSM‐CROPGRO‐Soybean model was evaluated with data from two experiments that were conducted at Chiang Mai University. The observed data sets from farmers’ fields located in the Phu Pha Man district were also used for model evaluation. Simulations for different management scenarios were conducted with soil property information for seven different soil series and historical weather data for the period 1972–2003 to predict the optimum crop management practices for soybean production in the Phu Pha Man district. The results of this study indicated that the cultivar coefficients of the two soybean cultivars resulted in simulated growth and development parameters that were in good agreement with almost all observed parameters. Model evaluation showed a good agreement between simulated and observed data for phenology and growth of soybean, and demonstrated the potential of the CSM‐CROPGRO‐Soybean model to simulate growth and yield for local environments, including farmers’ fields, in Thailand. The CSM‐CROPGRO‐Soybean simulations indicated that the optimum planting dates from June 15 to July 15 produced maximum soybean yield in a rainfed environment. However, the planting date December 15 produced the highest yield under quality irrigation. Soybean yield was slightly improved by applying nitrogen at a rate of 30 kg N ha?1 at planting. Soybean yield also improved when the plant density was increased from 20 to 40 plants m?2. The results from this study suggest that the CSM‐CROPGRO‐Soybean model can be a valuable tool in assisting with determining optimum management practices for soybean cropping systems in the Phu Pha Man district and might be applicable to other agricultural production areas in Thailand and southeast Asia.  相似文献

Summary The seed protein profile of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) appeared to be highly stable. The standard profile of this cultigen was found in 86 of the 90 accessions examined. Each of the Atylosia species, A. lineata, A. platycarpa, A. cajanifolia and A. scarabaeoides has its own profile but each band of the Atylosia species had a homologue in the standard profile of Cajanus or in one of its variants. This was taken as an indication for the polyphyletic origin of Cajanus from several Atylosia species. The appearance of specific Atylosia bands in some of the electrophoretic variants of Cajanus suggests that gene flow is still effective between pigeon pea and various Atylosia species. The poor solubility of the Atylosia seed protein in comparison to Cajanus indicates that domestication of Cajanus was coupled with increased solubility and perhaps a better nutritional value of this pulse as well.  相似文献

Summary We had previously found differences for seed yield among nine perennial ryegrass cultivars which were not associated with variation for seed weight. To detect the physiological basis of these genetic differences for seed yield, growth analyses were carried out. We related crop development and components of seed yield to seed yield during three years on clay and sandy soil. No significant differences occurred among cultivars for accumulation and partitioning of dry matter or the pattern of tiller production. Seed yield of the cultivars was not associated with ear number or total dry matter yield of the seed crop. Seed yield was more correlated with the number of seeds per unit area than with seed weight. The number of seeds as calculated after harvest from seed yield and seed weight was much lower than the number of seeds as estimated prior to harvest from seed yield components. The number of spikelets differed significantly among the cultivars, but the ranking was different from that for seed yield. The physiological basis of the genetic differences for seed yield is not clear. Implications for breeding perennial ryegrass are discussed.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted at Agricultural Experimental Farm, Giridih, Bihar during the winter seasons of 1992–93 and 1993–94 to compare 1 : 1 and 2 : 1 row‐replacement series intercropping of mustard (Brassica campestris Var. Toria) with pea (Pisum sativum), with lentil (Lens culinaris) and with gram (Cicer areitinum L.). Intercropping systems were assessed on the basis of new indices termed ‘actual yield loss’ (AYL) and ‘intercropping advantage’ (IA), as well as several existing intercropping indices such as LER, RCC and aggressivity. Intercropping reduced the yield of component crops, compared with respective pure stands. Mustard + pea in 1 : 1 row‐replacement series gave the highest mustard yield equivalent value (1.00 t/ha). When the actual sown proportion was considered, mustard + lentil (1 : 1) resulted in maximum AYL (+0.438) and IA (+2.889) values. We conclude that AYL and IA are more appropriate, particularly when per plant yield is considered.  相似文献

One hundred and thirty-four accessions of Lathyrus cicera from the Bank of Plant Germplasm of Cuenca (BGV-Cuenca, Spain) have been analysed for total protein and β- N -oxalyl- l -α,β-diaminopropionic acid (ODAP) contents in order to identify those with a suitable nutritional quality for animal feeding. There was a large variability in both traits, the content of total protein ranged from 22.95% to 30.98% with a mean value of 27.62%, and the ODAP from 0.09% to 0.30% with a mean value of 0.17%. The accessions from Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha showed higher percentages of protein and ODAP as compared with those from Andalucía, Greece and Extremadura. Nevertheless, total protein and ODAP contents showed a low positive correlation ( r  = 0.396, P = 0.01). Several accessions showed a content of ODAP similar to that of the variety 'Chalus' and two accessions seemed very suitable for animal feeding because of their high content of protein and low ODAP.  相似文献

The development of soybean varieties that lack the β‐conglycinin α‐subunit is an attractive goal because the β‐conglycinin α‐subunit negatively influences the nutrition and gelation of tofu and is a major allergen. To remove this undesirable allergen and simultaneously improve the seed nutritional value and food‐processing quality, marker‐assisted background selection (MABS) was used in backcross breeding to incorporate cgy‐2, a null phenotype version of the gene encoding the β‐conglycinin α‐subunit, from the donor line ‘RiB’ into the genetic background of the Chinese cultivar ‘Dongnong47’ (DN47), a popular high‐oil superfine seed soybean cultivar from Heilongjiang Province, China. In each F2 (F2, BCnF2) generation of the breeding programme, the offspring that carried the introgressed cgy‐2 were identified by sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and rescreened by MABS using simple sequence repeat markers to accelerate recurrent parent genome recovery. Of the 49 advanced backcrossing breeding lines (ABLs), the three best lines, ABL1, ABL2 and ABL3, were selected from the BC1, BC2 and BC3 populations, respectively. The ABLs were evaluated for desirable agronomic characteristics, yield‐related traits, amino acid composition, free amino acid composition and tofu‐processing quality in the mature seeds. All of the ABLs lacked the α‐subunit but grew and reproduced normally without deleterious effects on physiological processes such as seed development and germination. The free amino acid content of ABL1 was significantly higher than that of ‘DN47’, with arginine (Arg) being particularly enriched. Compared to the recurrent parent ‘DN47’, the total protein content of the three ABLs was higher, the amino acid composition of the seed proteins was markedly modified and the yield and hardness of the tofu that was made from the ABLs were significantly increased. MABS combined with stringent phenotypic selection in a backcross breeding programme is a feasible strategy for the genetic engineering of seed protein components to produce allergenic subunit‐deficient variant alleles.  相似文献

It is crucial to develop a rapid technique for identifying sexuality in the seedling stage of persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.), and the elimination of male progeny has been regarded as an important strategy for enhancing breeding efficiency. In this study, phenotype characterization and genotyping of the male‐linked OGI marker were carried out using 205 accessions, including persimmon cultivars, F1 progeny and nine related Diospyros species. All persimmon cultivars displayed consistent results regarding OGI amplification and sex phenotype. A total of 143 F1 progeny were derived from 11 crosses, among which 95 individuals had flowered. In the flowering full‐sib families, the amplification of the OGI marker in agreement with the sex phenotype was obtained in 85 plants (89.5%). The segregation of OGI in ‘Huashi 1’ × ‘Luotian Tianshi’ and ‘Huashi 1’ × Male 3 F1 populations fit a 1 : 1 ratio. Furthermore, high OGI transferability was observed in nine related species. Overall, the results indicated that the OGI locus could be used to distinguish male from female persimmon plants at an early stage.  相似文献

Vitamin A deficiency in humans is a widespread health problem. Quality protein maize (QPM) is a popular food rich in lysine and tryptophan, but poor in provitamin A (proA). Here, we report the improvement of an elite QPM inbred, HKI1128Q for proA using marker‐assisted introgression of crtRB1‐favourable allele. HKI1128 was one of the parental lines of three popular hybrids in India and was converted to QPM in our earlier programme. Severe segregation distortion for crtRB1 was observed in BC1F1, BC2F1 and BC2F2. Background selection by 100 SSRs revealed mean recovery of 91.07% recurrent parent genome varying from 88.78% to 93.88%. Across years, introgressed progenies possessed higher mean β‐carotene (BC: 9.22 µg/g), β‐cryptoxanthin (BCX: 3.05 µg/g) and provitamin A (proA: 10.75 µg/g) compared to HKI1128Q (BC: 2.26 µg/g, BCX: 2.26 µg/g and proA: 3.38 µg/g). High concentration of essential amino acids, viz. lysine (mean: 0.303%) and tryptophan (0.080%) in endosperm, was also retained. Multi‐year evaluation showed that introgressed progenies possessed similar grain yield (1,759–1,879 kg/ha) with HKI1128Q (1,778 kg/ha). Introgressed progenies with higher lysine, tryptophan and proA hold immense potential as donors and parents in developing biofortified hybrids.  相似文献
