This study demonstrated that the feeding of treatment diets with calculated dietary cation-anion balances (DCAB) of +370.43 (H) and -25.69 (L) did not have significant effects on blood pH, pCO2, and HCO3-. Serum Ca2+, P, Na+, and Cl- as well as plasma PTH did not differ (P > .05) between the two treatment groups. Serum K+ was higher (P< .05) in horses fed diet H rather than diet L. The DCAB of the diet significantly affected urinary Ca2+, P, Na+, K+, and Cl- excretion in the young growing horse. Urine Ca2+ and Cl- levels were higher (P < .01) in horses fed diet H versus diet L. Furthermore, levels of P, Na+, and K+ in the urine were higher (P < .01) in horses on diet H as opposed to diet L. Results of this study indicate that horses were able to maintain acid-base status regardless of diet. However, these data imply that growing horses consuming diets low in DCAB may be predisposed to abnormal bone mineralization due to the increase in calcium excretion which could lead to a weakening of the skeletal system.  相似文献

Abstract

The effect of long-term freshwater acclimation on the blood and plasma ion composition of Red Drum Sciaenops ocellatus was investigated with the goal of elucidating the necessity of ion remediation. Four replicates (n = 50) of freshwater-acclimated (FW) fish (1.6 ± 0.2 g) were raised in 25-m3 tanks supported by 140,000 L of recirculating water. Four replicates (n = 50) of seawater (SW) fish groups were placed in 40-m3 offshore cages at 32–35 psu. Blood was collected from 100 fish (FW = 578 ± 50 g; SW = 686 ± 45 g) of each group (FW, SW) after 8 months of rearing. During the grow-out phase, the survival of FW and SW fish was 57.5% and 92.2%, respectively. The water ion composition (mainly the Ca2+/K+ [43%] and Ca2+/Mg2+ ratios [1%]) explained 56.6% of the plasmatic ion variability in the fish groups. Freshwater exposure produced significant reductions in osmolality and in several plasma indicators (Na+, Cl?, and Mg2+); the K+ levels from FW fish were the most compromised parameter. The water Ca2+/Na+ ratio had a greater influence (44%) on the plasma chemistry parameters, mainly glucose and creatinine. Freshwater-acclimated fish had a higher percentage of hematocrit, hemoglobin, and red blood cells than SW fish, but the water quality explained only 12.5% of the blood parameter variability between the FW and SW groups. The results support the conclusion that Red Drum tolerates salinity variations and can adopt a relatively stable condition for short periods; however, the data suggest that Red Drum have only a limited ability to withstand a hyposmotic environment for long periods due to their limited ability in maintaining K+ concentrations without external supplementation. Freshwater environments with high Ca2+/Na+, Ca2+/K+, and Ca2+/Mg2+ ratios appear to be a chronic stress factor that should be considered in future experiments.

试验选用5只2岁、体重约40 kg的健康雄性哈萨克羊,单笼饲养。试验共4期(每期18 d,共72 d),第1期不添加棉酚,第2、3、4期在混合精料中分别添加984、1353、1722 mg/d棉酚。结果表明,随着棉酚添加量的增加,试验羊的饮水量、排尿量、麦秸采食量、排粪量及粪中含水量无明显变化(P>0.05);抗利尿激素、肾素、皮质酮水平无显著变化(P>0.05),促肾上腺皮质激素、醛固酮水平在前3期呈下降的趋势,第4期与第3期相比显著上升(P<0.05);血清中Na+水平在2、3期明显下降(P<0.05),第4期恢复到第1期水平,血清中Cl-水平呈下降趋势,Ca2+水平也呈下降趋势,在4期试验中K+、无机磷、Mg2+含量无明显变化(P>0.05);尿中Na+、无机磷含量无变化(P>0.05),Cl-含量前3期上升,第4期恢复到第1期水平,K+、Mg2+、Ca2+含量第4期较前3期均显著下降(P<0.05)。  相似文献

Comparative studies of ionic composition, osmolality, protein concentration and pH of seminal plasma along with spermatozoa concentrations were carried out in stellate sturgeon, Acipenser stellatus, and Russian sturgeon, Acipenser gueldenstaedtii. Analysis of A. gueldenstaedtii sperm showed significantly higher concentrations of Na+ (34.58 ± 4.61 mm ), Ca2+ (0.35 ± 0.12 mm ), Mg2+ (0.70 ± 0.25 mm ), Cl? (13.50 ± 4.04 mm ) and proteins (0.60 ± 0.29 mg/ml) in the seminal plasma than did seminal plasma of A. stellatus: Na+ (20.08 ± 10.75 mm ), Ca2+ (0.28 ± 0.06 mm ), Mg2+ (0.29 ± 0.05 mm ), Cl? (7.50 ± 3.00 mm ) and 0.30 ± 0.11 mg/ml proteins. Significantly higher concentration of K+ (5.42 ± 1.06 mm ) was observed in A. stellatus compared to A. gueldenstaedtii K+ (2.29 ± 0.50 mm ). Concentration of Na+ was positively correlated with osmolality (r = 0.819), levels of Cl? (r = 0.922) and Mg2+ (r = 0.727) and pH (r = 0.848). The concentration of Mg2+ was positively correlated with protein concentration (r = 0.774), Na+ (r = 0.727), Cl? (r = 0.872) and Ca2+ (r = 0.801). A positive relationship was also found between concentration of K+ and spermatozoa concentration (r = 0.709). Results revealed strong inter‐species differences in several parameters. The data should be useful for artificial fertilization and for cryopreservation of sturgeon sperm.  相似文献

Abstract

Whole-body unidirectional and net Na+ and Cl fluxes were determined in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss exposed to chloramine-T (9 mg/L) alone or in combination with 17 mmol NaCl/L (0.1 % weight per volume, w/v) after acclimation to either city of Ottawa tap water (TW: Na+ 0.121 ± 0.004 mmol/L; K+ 0.015 ± <0.001 mmol/L; Ca2+ 0.351 ± 0.004 mmol/L; Cl 0.141 ± 0.002 mmol/L) or artificial soft water (ASW: Na+ 0.043 ± 0.003 mmol/L; K+ 0.005 ± <0.001 mmol/L; Ca2+ 0.063 ± 0.002 mmol/L; Cl 0.026 ± 0.002 mmol/L). Preexposure fluxes revealed that ASW-acclimated fish had reduced rates of Na+ uptake and efflux compared with TW-acclimated fish. However, rates of Cl uptake among ASW-acclimated fish were comparable with those of TW-acclimated fish. Exposure to chloramine-T in TW resulted in significant increases in the Cl efflux, giving rise to a significant and negative net flux. Exposure of ASW-acclimated fish to chloramine-T caused a significant negative increase in the Na+ efflux and net flux but only a negative increase in the Cl net flux. The addition of 17 mmol NaCl/L (0.1% w/v) eliminated the negative net ionic fluxes, resulting in significant increases in influx. The combined use of chloramine-T with NaCl is a potential method of remediating ionic disturbances that may be caused by treating trout with chloramine-T.  相似文献

Seminal plasma (SP) and ovarian fluid (OF) plays an important role as storage media to prevent the activation of gametes both in vivo and under artificial conditions. The objectives of this study were to quantify gamete biochemistry and explore correlations among quantitative characteristics of SP, OF and sperm performance traits of Ide Leuciscus idus and Northern pike Esox lucius. Generally, Na+, K+ and Cl? were found to be the most dominating ions, although concentrations of K+ were higher in SP, while Na+ and Cl? concentrations were higher in OF for both species. Several significant correlations among the biochemical properties such as total protein, glucose, osmolality, cholesterol, K+, Ca2+, Cl? and Mg2+ were observed for SP and OF. Total protein content of Ide SP was positively correlated with sperm activity traits (r ≥ .89, p ≤ .05), while K+ concentration was negatively correlated with sperm traits (r ≥ ?.89, p ≤ .05). Moreover, Ca2+ concentration in Northern pike SP was positively correlated with the percentage of sperm motility (r = . 98, p < .01). In conclusion, these results can be used to better understand the biochemistry of SP and OF, improve methods for short‐ and long‐term storage of gametes and standardize fertilization protocols.  相似文献

Ion-selective electrodes have recently been designed for determining the ionized concentration of magnesium (Mg2+) in serum. This development may allow new insights into some metabolic diseases of cattle. For this report, the concentrations of Mg2+, total magnesium (Mgtot), ionized calcium (Ca2+), total calcium (Catot), and inorganic phosphate (Pi) were determined in sera from seventeen 3-to 16-year-old Brown Swiss and crossed Simmental/Red Holstein cows during the periparturient period. In each animal, a transient increase of Mg2+ and Mgtot serum concentrations was observed in association with the transient decrease in serum concentrations of Ca2+, Catot and Pi after parturition. On average, throughout the study, the serum Mg2+ concentrations were 68.5% of those of Mgtot, whereas the serum Ca2+ concentrations were 52% of those of Catot. A total of 702 1-day-old male Jiangnan White goslings were used to study the effects of varying levels of Na+ and Cl on their growth performance and blood parameters. In this experiment, goslings were randomly allotted to nine treatments, with six pens per treatment in a 3 × 3 factorial arrangement, and fed diets with three concentrations of added Na+ (0.10%, 0.15% and 0.20%) and three concentrations of added Cl (0.15%, 0.20% and 0.25%). The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the sensitivity of goslings to Na+ and Cl during brooding to determine the appropriate levels of Na+ and Cl in their feed. The results are as follows: (a) Different levels of Na+ and Cl in the diet, especially low Na+ and Cl, significantly affected the body weight (BW), average daily gain (ADG) and feed/gain ratio (F/G) of the 28-day-old goslings (p < .05). But Na+ × Cl has no significant effect on water consumption (p > .05). (b) Serum concentrations of urea increased linearly with Na+ content (p < .05). Serum concentrations of creatinine (CR) and uric acid (UA) increased linearly with Cl content (p < .05). (c) Na+ × Cl has a significant impact on the serum sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl; p < .05). The content of serum Na and Cl increased linearly with increasing levels of Na+ and Cl. These results show that low levels of Na+ and Cl had significant adverse effects on the growth of 1- to 28-day-old goslings. The results of the experiment support a recommendation to supplement the diet of goslings with 0.20% Cl and not <0.15% Na+.  相似文献

The present experiment investigated durability during the repetitive use of washed rice straw, as bedding material, and washing water as a model study. Residual nitrogen levels, elasticity, and water suction rates for washed rice straw‐adhered urea were measured. In addition, outflow levels of nitrogen and mineral ions (Na+, NO2 + NO3, SO42?, PO43?, Cl) for washing water were measured to determine durability. Nitrogen levels of rice straw significantly (P < 0.05) decreased after two washings. There was no significant change in elasticity of repetitively used rice straw. Suction rates of rice straw after the second and third washings increased significantly (P < 0.05) compared to the first time. With regard to the number of washings, the mineral ion outflow level in the washing water for nitrogen, Na+, NO2 + NO3 and PO43? after each washing was not significant. However, nitrogen outflow level tended to decrease after the third washing. SO4 and Cl did significantly decrease (P < 0.05) with the number of washings. In this study, it was considered that rice straw and washing water could be used repetitively three times. Furthermore, in order to maintain effluent standards, washing water from the first washing needs to be processed in a septic tank.  相似文献

1. Twenty‐five laying hens were fed on a diet containing 100 mg acetazolamide/kg in order to determine the effects of a decrease in the activity of carbonic anhydrase on the transfer of minerals to the egg albumen.

2. Treatment with acetazolamide decreased the rate of shell formation by 44%; reduced the concentrations of water and Na+ in the albumen at the beginning of the plumping stage but increased the accumulation of water during plumping; increased the concentration of Cl‐ in the albumen after the 6‐h stage without any appreciable change in K+ and Ca2+ concentrations.

3. The computed relationships between the concentrations of different ions also showed that the transfer of water and Na+ were linked during egg formation, that a water‐independent, acetazolamide‐sensitive reabsorption of Na+ occurred after the 10‐h stage and that Na+ and Cl‐moved simultaneously up to 14 h but with the ratio of Cl‐ to Na+ three times higher in the treated group.

4. It is concluded that acetazolamide impairs the transfer of Na+ and Cl‐ between the albumen and the extracellular fluid and that secretion of Ca2+ into the uterine lumen seems to depend on Na+ and Cl‐ reabsorption.  相似文献

Blood and seminal plasma ionic parameters are essential for monitoring health status, detecting illnesses, fish stock conservation and development of artificial propagation methods via extender improvement. In this study, comparison of blood and seminal plasma ionic parameters in beluga, Huso huso (30–45 kg, 1–2 m, n = 10), was made. The results obtained show that Na+ (82.54 ± 5.46), Cl (15.95 ± 0.72) and K+ (3.57 ± 0.15) were predominant ions in the seminal plasma (as mm ). Blood ionic values (as mm ) were determined for Na+ (110.2 ± 1.26), K+ (3.77 ± 0.081), Cl? (60.12 ± 1.5), Ca2+ (2.05 ± 0.35) and Mg2+ (1.9 ± 0.16). Results of the comparison between ionic parameters of seminal and blood plasma indicated that the concentrations of all parameters of blood plasma with the exception of K+ were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than those of seminal plasma.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary protein and energy levels on digestive enzymes and electrolyte composition in jejunum of geese. A 3×3 factorial and completely randomized design was adopted with three protein levels and three energy levels. The experiment included four replicates for each treatment, and three geese for each replicate. Isovolumetric supernate from centrifugal jejuna fluid were mixed in each replicate. Activities of digestive enzymes and ions were analyzed. The results showed trypsin and chymotrypsin activities were significantly increased with increasing of dietary protein and energy levels (P<0.05). The concentrations of Ca2+ and pH value were significantly decreased by increased dietary protein and energy levels. However, no significant differences were found for the activities of amylase and cellulase, as well as the concentration of Na+ among groups with different protein and energy levels. In conclusion, digesta enzymes and electrolytes in the small intestine adapted to the protein and energy levels. The activities of protease, rather than amylase and cellulase were induced with increasing of protein and energy levels. The imbalance of positive and negative ions was possibly adjusted by the fluctuant concentrations of K+, Cl and Ca2+ for maintaining normal physiological function.  相似文献

Objective: To determine whether in healthy horses and those with colic, exposure of peritoneal fluid to room air affects values obtained on biochemical analysis. Study Design: Prospective study. Animals: Adult horses with a primary complaint of acute abdominal pain (n=29) and 12 healthy horses. Methods: Peritoneal fluid was aseptically collected under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. After collection, pH, PCO2, PO2, HCO3?, Na+, ionized Ca2+, K+, lactate, and glucose were immediately measured using a commercial blood gas analyzer. Biochemical variables were compared between aerobically and anaerobically obtained samples using a paired t‐test. Results: In healthy horses, peritoneal fluid samples collected under anaerobic conditions had higher PCO2 and ionized Ca2+ and lower PO2, HCO3?, and pH compared with samples exposed to air. No differences were observed for K+, Na+, glucose, and lactate. In horses with colic, samples collected anaerobically had higher PCO2, ionized Ca2+, Na+, and glucose and lower PO2, HCO3?, and pH value compared with samples exposed to air. No differences were observed for K+ and lactate. Conclusion: Exposure of peritoneal fluid to room air had a significant effect on pH, PCO2, PO2, and variables associated or dependent on changes in pH such as HCO3? and ionized Ca2+. Interpretation of biochemical analysis of peritoneal fluid may be influenced by sample collection method.  相似文献

The effects of feeding diets with different milliequivalents (mEq) of dietary ([Na+ + K+] − [Cl + SO4=]) to dairy cows during the last seven weeks of pregnancy on bone morphology at parturition were studied. Nine monozygotic twin pairs of pregnant cows (five pairs of parity 1 or 2 and four pairs of parity 3 or more) were allocated to two diets which were formulated to provide either −4 mEq (anion diet) or +572·5 mEq (cation diet) of ([Na+ + K+] − [Cl + SO4=]) kg−1 dietary dry matter. Bone biopsies were taken from the tuber coxae between three and eight hours after parturition. The plasma concentrations of calcium and inorganic phosphorus, the total plasma alkaline phosphatase activity and the urinary hydroxyproline:creatinine ratio were not significantly affected by diet during the experimental period. In low parity (2 or less) cows the percentage trabecular bone volume, the percentage osteoclast surface and the mean number of osteoclasts per microscopic field (identified by Goldner staining) were lower on the anion diet than on the cation diet (P<0-02). In the high parity cows, the percentage osteoid volume (P<0·05) and the ratio of percentage osteoid volume to percentage osteoid surface (P<0·001) were greater in the cows fed the anion diet than in the cows fed the cation diet. The results show that reducing the mEq of dietary ([Na+ + K+] − [Cl + SO4=]) to −4 mEq kg−1 dietary dry matter affected some of the parameters of bone formation but did not enhance bone resorption.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to describe pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes as a result of a single intravenous administration of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) to healthy horses. MgSO4 is a magnesium salt that has been used to calm horses in equestrian competition and is difficult to regulate because magnesium is an essential constituent of all mammals. Six healthy adult female horses were administered a single intravenous dose of MgSO4 at 60 mg/kg of body weight over 5 min. Blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were collected, and cardiovascular parameters were monitored and echocardiograms performed at predetermined times. Noncompartmental pharmacokinetic analysis was applied to plasma concentrations of ionized magnesium (Mg2+). Objective data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test with p < .05 used as a determination for significance. Plasma concentrations of Mg2+ increased nearly fivefold, ionized calcium (Ca2+) decreased by nearly 10%, and the Ca2+ to Mg2+ ratio declined more than 3.5-fold and remained different than baseline until 24 hr (p < .05). Significant changes were seen with urinary fractional excretion of electrolytes, cardiovascular parameters, and echocardiographic measurements. No changes were detected in CSF electrolyte concentrations. The decrease in Ca2+ result of hypermagnesemia supports the interaction between these cations. Alterations detected in plasma electrolyte concentrations and urinary fractional excretion of electrolytes may serve as biomarkers for regulatory control for the nefarious administration of MgSO4.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Ca2+ signaling pathway is involved in the ability of osteoprotegerin (OPG) to inhibit osteoclast differentiation and maturation. RAW264.7 cells were incubated with macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) + receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL) to stimulate osteoclastogenesis and then treated with different concentrations of OPG, an inhibitor of osteoclast differentiation. The intracellular Ca2+ concentration [Ca2+]i and phosphorylation of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) in the different treatment groups were measured by flow cytometry and Western blotting, respectively. The results confirmed that M-CSF + RANKL significantly increased [Ca2+]i and CaMKII phosphorylation in osteoclasts (p < 0.01), and that these effects were subsequently decreased by OPG treatment. Exposure to specific inhibitors of the Ca2+ signaling pathway revealed that these changes varied between the different OPG treatment groups. Findings from the present study indicated that the Ca2+ signaling pathway is involved in both the regulation of osteoclastogenesis as well as inhibition of osteoclast differentiation and activation by OPG.  相似文献

The study was conducted to evaluate the response of broiler chicks to different dietary Na+ and Cl concentrations with similar dietary electrolyte balance of 250 mEq/kg during 29 to 42 d of age in a hot environment with average minimum and maximum temperatures of 32.4 and 36.6°C, respectively, and an average RH of 69.2%. Three levels of dietary Na+ (0.20, 0.25, and 0.30%) and 3 levels of dietary Cl (0.30, 0.40, and 0.50%) were used in 3 × 3 factorial arrangement in which BW at 28 d were used as covariate in the statistical analysis. A decreasing linear effect of dietary Na+ was observed on breast yield and lowering of abdominal fat, whereas increasing dietary Cl linearly increased litter moisture and decreased dressing weights. No significant effects of dietary Na+, Cl, or Na+ × Cl were observed on feed intake, BW gain, feed:gain, rectal temperature, water:feed, or mortality. An improvement in litter condition, toe ash, blood parameters, and lowered abdominal fat yield was observed for the diet having 0.30% dietary Na+. The results of the present study suggest the dietary requirements of 0.20 to 0.25% Na+ and 0.30% Cl during the finisher phase (29 to 42 d) of broiler chicks when the ambient temperature ranged from 32 to 40°C.  相似文献

The aetiology of geophagia in periurban dairy cattle in Nigeria was assessed in relation to the mineral status of the serum, the herbage consumed, and the soil from where the herbage was consumed. The study was carried out using nine herds in the derived savannah zone during both the wet and dry seasons. Generally, the Na, Ca, Fe, Zn and Cu levels in the samples were adequate. However, the forages were low in Ca and the serum was deficient in P. Forage, soil and termite hill samples were also deficient in P. The low levels of P in the soil and termite hill samples showed that the consumption of sand by the cattle did not have any positive impact on their P intake. A seasonal effect was apparent (p<0.05) on the serum Na+, PO4 3–, Cu2+ and Fe2+ concentrations but not on Ca2+ and Zn2+ concentrations. A seasonal effect was also significant (p<0.05) on the minerals in the forage. There were also seasonal differences in most of the soil and termite hill minerals. Most samples had higher (p<0.05) mineral levels in the dry season. Herd size and farming activity had no apparent influence on the aetiology of geophagia as they did not affect (p>0.05) the concentration of P in the serum, the reported cause of geophagia. Geophagia is probably caused by a marginal level of P in the serum and low levels in the forage and soil. Experimental trials will be required to confirm these observations.  相似文献

The tolerance to low temperature of the freshwater snail species Bulinus africanus, Bulinus globosus and Biomphalaria pfeifferi was experimentally investigated. Snails were exposed to temperatures ranging from 0 °C to 8 °C and their survival was noted daily. The results showed that the survival of the cohorts of all three species decreased as the temperature was lowered in the range investigated. Evidence is presented which demonstrates that B. africanus can withstand cold conditions better than B. globosus, and that a globosus is better equipped than a pfeifferi in withstanding low water temperatures.  相似文献

The effect of age and sex on blood acid-base and plasma electrolyte values was determined in venous blood samples from 45 clinically healthy ostriches (Struthio camelus) from 26 days to 6 years of age. Animals were divided by age into four groups and the group of adults was divided by sex into two subgroups. Blood samples were collected without sedation. There was a significant (P < 0.05) age difference in blood values of base excess (BE), plasma , total CO2 (TCO2), Na+, K+, Cl and anion gap (AG). The highest plasma concentrations of Na+, Cl and value of AG were found in adult ostriches with a steady decrease to chicks. A significant (P < 0.05) sex difference in adult animals with higher blood pH, lower blood values of pCO2, BE, plasma concentrations of , TCO2 and K+ was found in females. We concluded that blood acid-base values and plasma electrolyte concentrations in ostriches are affected by age and sex.  相似文献
