Purpose

Biochar application has been shown to be effective in improving soil fertility and sequestering soil contaminants. However, the impact of biochar amendments on the environmental fate of pesticides and the bioavailability of pesticides to living organisms in the soil environment is still not fully understood.

Materials and methods

Dissipation of fomesafen and its bioavailability to corn (Zea mays L.) and the earthworm Eisenia fetida in an agricultural soil amended with three different rates of rice hull biochar (0.5, 1, and 2 % (w/w)) under laboratory conditions was investigated.

Results and discussion

Biochar amendment significantly increased the DT50 of fomesafen from 34 days in unamended soil to 160 days in 2 % biochar-amended soil. Furthermore, biochar amendment decreased fomesafen concentration in soil pore water resulting in lower plant uptake of the pesticide. In this case, total plant residue and soil pore water concentrations of fomesafen in 2 % biochar-amended soil decreased to 0.29 % and 0.28–45 % of that in the control, respectively. Similar results were obtained for bioavailability of fomesafen in earthworms, as the earthworm residue and soil pore water concentration of fomesafen in 2 % biochar-amended soil declined to 0.38–45 and 0.47–0.50 % compared to the level of the control, respectively.

Conclusions

As biochar could markedly reduce the concentration of fomesafen in soil pore water and subsequently reduce plant and earthworm uptake of fomesafen from contaminated soil, biochar amendment could be considered an appropriate option for immobilizing fomesafen in soils, protecting nontarget organisms from fomesafen contamination.

The effects on two earthworm species of a gradient of metal contamination in soil collected close to a 50-year-old lead recycling factory were investigated in mesocosms filled with soil sampled at three distances from the factory (10, 30 and 60 m). After 5 weeks of exposure, earthworm litter consumption and weight change were measured. Burrow systems were analysed using X-ray tomography, and water infiltration was measured. No significant differences in earthworm weight or activity were observed between mesocosms filled with soil from 30 and 60 m. In contrast, both earthworm species significantly lost weight and burrowed less in the soil sampled at 10 m. In the cores filled with the soil collected at 10-m distance, Aporrectodea caliginosa avoided the highly contaminated first layer (0–5 cm) and burrowed deeper whereas Lumbricus terrestris burrowed relatively more in this layer. We assume that these different reactions are associated with their ecological types. Epi-anecic earthworms forage litter at the soil surface, whereas endogeic earthworms are geophagous and thus are able to forage deeper. This was further corroborated by the bioaccumulation factors measured for each species: for L. terrestris, BAF values for Pb and Cd only decreased slightly in the 10-m soil correlating with their overall reduced activity. However, BAF values for A. caliginosa were 20-fold lower compared to those observed in soil from 30 and 60 m. These modifications in burrowing behaviour in the 10-m mesocosms resulted in a significant and marked decrease in water infiltration rates but only for L. terrestris.  相似文献

Bio-fertilizer application has been proposed as a strategy for enhancing soil fertility, regulating soil microflora composition, and improving crop yields, and it has been widely applied in the agricultural yields. However, the application of bio-fertilizer in grassland has been poorly studied. We conducted in situ and pot experiments to investigate the practical effects of different fertilization regimes on Leymus chinensis growth, with a focus on the potential microecological mechanisms underlying the responses of soil microbial composition. L. chinensis biomass was significantly (P?<?0.05) increased by treatment with 6000 kg ha?1 of Trichoderma bio-fertilizer compared with other treatments. We found a positive (R2 =?0.6274, P <?0.001) correlation between bacterial alpha diversity and L. chinensis biomass. Hierarchical cluster analysis and nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) revealed that soil bacterial and fungal community compositions were all separated according to the fertilization regime used. The relative abundance of the most beneficial genera in bio-fertilizer (BOF) (6000 kg ha?1Trichoderma bio-fertilizer) was significantly higher than in organic fertilizer (OF) (6000 kg ha?1 organic fertilizer) or in CK (non-amend fertilizer), there the potential pathogenic genera were reduced. There were significant negative (P?<?0.05) correlations between L. chinensis biomass and the relative abundance of several potential pathogenic genera. However, the relative abundance of most beneficial genera were significantly (P?<?0.05) positively correlated with L. chinensis biomass. Soil properties had different effects on these beneficial and on these pathogenic genera, further influencing L. chinensis biomass.  相似文献

Purpose

The presence of high concentrations of trace elements (TEs) in mine soils like those in the Sierra Minera of La Unión-Cartagena (SE Spain) limits the development of a vegetation cover on such sites, and pollution dispersion by water and wind erosion represents a serious risk for the surrounding ecosystems. The aim of this study was to evaluate different phytostabilisation procedures based on the co-culture of a legume (Bituminaria bituminosa) and a high-biomass (Piptatherum miliaceum) species for this type of soils.

Materials and methods

A pot experiment was carried out where B. bituminosa was tested as a soil pre-treatment strategy. Five different procedures were followed to study the growth stimulation or competition of both species in a contaminated soil from the Sierra Minera: (i) sowing of P. miliaceum without B. bituminosa (control treatment), (ii) sowing of P. miliaceum for co-cultivation of both species, (iii) sowing of P. miliaceum and co-cultivation of both species in soil with compost, (iv) harvesting and elimination of the aerial part of the plants before sowing of P. miliaceum and (v) harvesting and incorporation to the soil of the aerial part of B. bituminosa before sowing of P. miliaceum.

Results and discussion

The results showed that the co-culture of both species favoured the growth of P. miliaceum, whilst incorporating the aerial part of the legume to the soil increased nitrogen concentration in P. miliaceum but reduced its growth. The use of compost improved both the growth and N uptake of P. miliaceum and did not inhibit nodulation in B. bituminosa. TE extractability in the soils and accumulation in the plants were rather low and very little affected by the addition of the amendments or by co-culture of species.

Conclusions

Nitrogen availability plays an important role in P. miliaceum growth in TE-contaminated mine soils. The addition of compost together with legume cultivation is proposed as an effective combination for the cultivation of P. miliaceum in these soils, as both plant growth and soil conditions were improved following this procedure.

The present greenhouse study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of co-inoculating the ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungus Boletus edulis with the mycorrhiza helper bacterium Bacillus cereus HB12 or HB59 on the growth and nutrient uptake of Pinus thunbergii. The inoculation with mycorrhiza helper bacterium significantly (P?≤?0.05) increased the ectomycorrhizal colonization. Treatments with dual inoculum (the mycorrhiza helper bacterium plus mycorrhiza) significantly (P?≤?0.05) increased the P. thunbergii growth. Bacteria–mycorrhizae interactions resulted in a great utilization of phosphate and potassium. The single inoculation resulted in a higher root activity than the control while the co-inoculation led to the highest root activity. The 6-CFDA staining assay showed that B. cereus enhanced fungal activity in ectomycorrhizal symbiosis. The results conclusively suggest that B. cereus isolated from the rhizosphere of P. thunbergii can potentially be used as individual inoculant or co-inoculated with ECM fungi to increase the production in sustainable ecological systems. These results support the potential use of B. cereus (HB12 or HB59) and B. edulis as mixed inoculants stimulating growth of P. thunbergii.  相似文献

DNA sequences of nuclear gene Got2 was studied in 60 accessions of Aegilops tauschii, 29 of subsp. tauschii and 31 of subsp. strangulata. It was found that Got2 allozyme polymorphism in Ae. tauschii is due to a single, unique, mutation which led to replacement of glutamic acid by isoleucine in residue 256 of the enzyme molecule, encoded by Got2. As revealed by Got2 DNA sequences variation, initially in its history Ae. tauschii was presented by subsp. strangulata, and among phylogenetic lineages of subsp. strangulata, the lineage “t-91s” (TauL3) is the most ancient, a relict one. Subspecies tauschii is relatively “young”. Initially it was presented by the lineage marked by combination of allozyme alleles Got2 105 and Acph1 100. In the past it inhabited the Continental area from Caucasia to Pakistan, but later on it was forced out by newly originated, now—a major lineage of subsp. tauschii, marked by Got2 100. This lineage extended the Continental area of the species up to Kirgizstan, but actually failed to penetrate into pre-Caspian area, occupied by subsp. strangulata. These results essentially differ from those obtained previously, using chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequences polymorphism. As revealed by cpDNA, the major, “usual”, subsp. strangulata (TauL2) is “younger” than subsp. tauschii, which resided on phylogenetic tree between relict lineage “t-91s”of subsp. strangulata—and major subsp. strangulata. But both cpDNA and Got2 DNA sequences indicate that the level of genetic variation in subsp. tauschii is much lower than in subsp. strangulata. According to Got2 DNA sequences variation, it was Ae. tauschii subsp. strangulata lineage “k-109″ which donated genome D to Triticum aestivum L. This lineage includes accessions: k-109 from South-Eastern Precaspian Azerbaijan; KU-2105, KU-2159 from Western Precaspian Iran; KU-2080 from Eastern Precaspian Iran.  相似文献

The coefficients of the soil line are often taken into account in calculations of vegetation indices. These coefficients are usually calculated for the entire satellite image, or are taken as constants without any calculations. In both cases, the informativeness of these coefficients is low and insufficient for the needs of soil mapping. In our study, we calculated soil line coefficients at 8000 lattice points for the territory of Plavsk, Arsen’evsk, and Chern districts of Tula oblast on the basis of 34 Landsat 5, 7, and 8 images obtained in 1985–2014. In order to distinguish between the soil line calculated for a given image and the soil line calculated for lattice points on the basis of dozens of multitemporal images, we suggest that the latter can be referred to as the temporal soil line. The temporal soil line is described by a classical equation: NIR = RED a + b, where a is its slope relative to the horizontal axis (RED), and b is the Y-axis (NIR) intercept. Both coefficients were used to create soil maps. The verification of the maps was performed with the use of data on 1985 soil pits. The informativeness of these coefficients appeared to be sufficient for delineation of eight groups of soils of different taxonomic levels: soddy moderately podzolic soils, soddy slightly podzolic soils, soddy-podzolic soils, light gray forest soils, gray forest soils, dark gray forest soils, podzolized chernozems, and leached chernozems. The b coefficient proved to be more informative, as it allowed us to create the soil map precisely on its basis. In order to create the soil map on the basis of the a coefficient, we had to apply some threshold values of the b coefficient. The bare soil on each of Landsat scenes was separated with the help of the mask of agricultural fields and the notion of the spectral neighborhood of soil line (SNSL).  相似文献

Purpose

The extract of Stevia residue is an ideal substitute for cultivation of the purple nonsulfur bacterium, like Rhodopseudomonas palustris (R. palustris). But the influence of R. palustris grown under residue extract on its downstream application is still not well-characterized. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of foliar spray of R. palustris grown under Stevia residue extract on the plant growth and soil microbial properties.

Materials and methods

A pot experiment was carried out under the greenhouse condition, consisting of four treatments varying in the sprayed substances: sterilized water (control), R. palustris grown under the chemical medium supplemented with L-tryptophan (SyT), R. palustris grown under Stevia residue extract supplemented with L-tryptophan (ExT), and R. palustris grown under Stevia residue extract supplemented with NH4Cl (ExT). The net photosynthesis rate of the uppermost leaves was measured with a portable photosynthesis system. Soil microbial activity was analyzed by microcalorimetry. Soil bacterial community components were determined by real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) and high-throughput sequencing techniques.

Results and discussion

Compared with SyT, the R. palustris grown under Stevia residue extract not only improved the plant biomass and the net photosynthetic rate to a large extent, but also increased soil microbial metabolic activity and altered community compositions as well. The treatments receiving R. palustris, especially ExT and ExN, increased the relative abundances of some functional guilds involved in C turnover and nutrient cycling in soil, including Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Gemmatimonadaetes, Nitrospirae, and Planctomycetes.

Conclusions

R. palustris grown under the Stevia residue extract showed advantages over that under the chemical medium on both plant growth and soil microbial properties. One of the possible reasons could result from the increases in microbial activity and several bacterial keystone guilds involved into C and nutrient cycling, both of which potentially contribute to the improved plant growth. The results would be conducive to the downstream application of R. palustris in an economical way.

Purpose

The subjects of this study were to investigate the remediating potential of the co-cultivation of Pleurotus eryngii and Coprinus comatus on soil that is co-contaminated with heavy metal (cadmium (Cd)) and organic pollutant (endosulfan), and the effects of the co-cultivated mushrooms on soil biochemical indicators, such as laccase enzyme activity and bacterial counts.

Materials and methods

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the combined bioremediation effects on co-contaminated soil. After the mature fruiting bodies were harvested from each pot, the biomass of mushrooms was recorded. In addition, bacterial counts and laccase enzyme activity in soil were determined. The content of Cd in mushrooms and soil was detected by the flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS), and the variations of Cd fractions in soil were determined following the modified BCR sequential extraction procedure. Besides, the residual endosulfan in soil was detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Results and discussion

The results indicated that co-cultivation of P. eryngii and C. comatus exerted the best remediation effect on the co-contaminated soil. The biomass of mushroom in the co-cultivated group (T group) was 1.57–13.20 and 19.75–56.64% higher than the group individually cultivated with P. eryngii (P group) or C. comatus (C group), respectively. The concentrations of Cd in the fruiting bodies of mushrooms were 1.83–3.06, 1.04–2.28, and 0.67–2.60 mg/kg in T, P, and C groups, respectively. Besides, the removal rates of endosulfan in all treatments exceeded 87%. The best bioremediation effect in T group might be caused by the mutual promotion of these two kinds of mushrooms.

Conclusions

The biomass of mushroom, laccase activity, bacterial counts, and Cd content in mushrooms were significantly enhanced, and the dissipation effect of endosulfan was slightly higher in the co-cultivated group than in the individually cultivated groups. In this study, the effect of co-cultivated macro fungi P. eryngii and C. comatus on the remediation of Cd and endosulfan co-contaminated soil was firstly reported, and the results are important for a better understanding of the co-remediation for co-contaminated soil.

Purpose

Eucalyptus forest plantations are normally devoid of understory vegetation that is often assumed to be associated with Eucalyptus allelopathic effects. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of high soil compaction and low soil moisture content on inhibition of the germination of understory seeds in Eucalyptus forests and thus would result in the scarcity of understory vegetation.

Materials and methods

The soil water content above the depth of 1 m of six major understory vegetation types was analyzed to determine if there was a correlation between soil water content and understory vegetation. The effects of soil treatment (soil-loosening vs. no soil-loosening) and water supply amount (2500, 2000, 1500, 1000, 500, 250, or 0 ml of water per day) on the seed germination rate of Stylosanthes sp. were explored using an artificial climate chamber experiment. Influence of soil source (five Eucalyptus forest soils vs. two non-Eucalyptus forest soils) and water supply (0, 50, 150, 200, or 400 ml of water every day) on the germination rate of five types of seed were assessed using a three-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA).

Results and discussion

Soil-loosening and water supply significantly (P?<?0.05) increased seed germination rate with the contribution rates of 26.14 and 42.93 %, respectively. Analysis of variance for three-factor experiments revealed a significant (P?<?0.05) effect of water supply and vegetation seed type on the germination rate of plant seeds. No significant effect of soil type was observed on germination rate, indicating that germination rate was not affected by soils in Eucalyptus forest.

Conclusions

The conservation of soil characteristics, such as water content and compaction, during the development of a Eucalyptus forest plantation may be an effective strategy for encouraging the growth of understory vegetation. This study highlights the importance that in dry areas or areas prone to long-term drought, it would be preferable to retain native vegetation.

Analysis of the genetic structure of Indonesian Oryza sativa and O. rufipogon using neighbour-joining trees based on single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers revealed that O. sativa in Indonesia is separated from O. rufipogon. Accessions of O. sativa in this study were differentiated into two major groups, indica and tropical japonica, excluding some varieties. SSR and SNP markers revealed the high value of differentiation (F ST) and genetic distance (D) between indica and tropical japonica and we discovered four loci by SNP markers and one locus by SSR markers that play a role in differentiation between indica and tropical japonica. Interestingly, genetic diversity (H) in O. rufipogon was lower than that in O. sativa, however H in O. rufipogon was the highest and H in tropical japonica was the lowest when O. sativa was divided into two groups. Inbreeding coefficient (Fst) showed evidences that gene flow (Nm) between species and within species might be one of the mechanisms related to the diversification and differentiation of Indonesian rice germplasm by asymmetric pattern between species and within O. sativa as revealed by SSR and SNP markers. In addition, we found evidences on stabilizing selection in Indonesian rice germplasm and they might be the reasons why Indonesian rice germplasm did not differentiate due to source location of landrace. However, we found a weak relation between SSR and SNP markers probably due to highly polymorphic in SSR and the different properties of both markers.  相似文献

A number of genes that contribute to the domestication traits of cultivated rice have been identified. These include Sh4, Rc, PROG1 and LABA1, which are associated with non-shattering rachis, white pericarp, erect growth and barbless awns, respectively. The mutations giving rise to the “domestication alleles” of these genes are either invariable in cultivated rice, or have variability that is strictly associated with the phenotypic trait. This observation forms the basis to those current rice domestication models that envisage a single origin for the domesticated phenotype. Such models assume that the domestication alleles are absent or rare in wild rice, emerged under cultivation and spread across all rice groups by introgressive hybridization. We examined whole-genome sequencing datasets for wild and cultivated rice to test the former two assumptions. We found that the rc and laba1 alleles occur in wild rice with broad geographical distribution, and reach frequencies as high as 13 and 15%, respectively. These results are in agreement with previous observations of the prog1 and sh4 domestication alleles in wild populations. We also show that the diversity of the genomic regions surrounding the rc, laba1, prog1 and sh4 alleles in wild accessions is greater than that in cultivated rice, suggesting that these alleles emerged prior to domestication. Our findings indicate that the possibility that independent rice groups obtained identical domestication alleles directly from the wild population needs to be considered.  相似文献

Coxiella burnetii is a pathogen of Q-fever—a widespread zoonosis. The effective adaptation of C. burnetii to intracellular existence is in contrast with its ability to survive in the environment outside the host cells and its resistance to chemical and physical agents. Its mechanism of survival remains unknown. However, its survival appears to be related to the developmental cycle of the microorganism itself, i.e., to the formation of its dormant forms. The survival of Coxiella burnetii was studied for the first time. The pathogenic microorganism was inoculated into different types of soil and cultivated under different temperatures. The survival of the pathogen was verified using a model with laboratory animals (mice). Viable C. burnetii were found in the soil even 20 days after their inoculation. The relationship between the organic carbon content in the soils and the survival of C. burnetii was revealed. Thus, the results obtained were the first to demonstrate that the soil may serve as a reservoir for the preservation and further spreading of the Q-fever pathogen in the environment, on the one hand, and reduce the risk of epidemics, on the other.  相似文献

Insecticidal crystal (Cry) proteins produced by transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) rice that enter the soil via root exudation and plant residues may be harmful to non-target soil organisms. We conducted a 3-year field investigation to determine if soil nematode abundance and diversity were affected by exposure to two transgenic Bt rice cultivars, compared to their non-transgenic near isolines. Near isolines were Kemingdao (KMD-Bt) expressing the single Cry1Ab gene and its non-Bt near isoline Xiushui-11 (XSD), as well as Huahui-1 (HH-Bt) expressing the fused Cry1Ab/Cry1Ac gene and its non-Bt near isoline Minghui-63 (MH). Nematode variables including community composition, abundance, trophic groups, and most of the common genera differed significantly between the rice cultivars. However, these nematode variables were similar under transgenic Bt rice and its non-Bt near isoline, although higher Shannon’s index value and Pielou’s index value were found in soils planted with Bt rice than the non-Bt near isoline. During this 3-year field study, gene modification (single Cry1Ab gene and fused Cry1Ab/Cry1Ac gene) supports a more uniform distribution of nematode species but had no effect on soil nematode abundance and community composition. We conclude that continuous cultivation of KMD-Bt and HH-Bt rice varieties for 3 years is not detrimental to soil nematode communities under field conditions.  相似文献

Maize (Zea mays L.) and Asian rice (Oryza sativa L.), two most important cereals for human nutrition, have undergone strong artificial selection during a long period of time. Currently, a number of genes with stronger signals of selection have been identified through combining genomic and population genetic approach, but research on artificial selection of maize and Asian rice is scarcely done from the perspective of phenotypic difference of a number of agronomic traits. In this study, such an investigation was carried out on the basis of 179 published studies about phenotypic quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping of Zea and Oryza species via QTL sign test. At the overall level, the proportions of antagonistic QTLs of Zea and Oryza species were 0.2446 and 0.2382 respectively, deviating significantly from neutrality. It indicated that these two genera have undergone similar selection strength during their evolutionary process. A previous study showed that 4 traits undergoing the directional selection during domestication were identified in Asian rice via QTL sign test, and 16 individual traits in Asian rice and 38 ones in maize that newly detected in this study deviated significantly from neutrality as well, demonstrating the dominant influence of artificial selection on them. Moreover, analysis of different categories of cross type including O. sativa × Oryza rufipogon (perennial and annual forms) crosses, maize × teosinte (Zea mays subsp. parviglumis) crosses, O. sativa × O. sativa crosses, and maize × maize crosses showed that their proportions of antagonistic QTLs were 0.1869, 0.1467, 0.2649, and 0.2618 respectively. These results revealed that selection strength of domestication is significantly stronger than that of modern genetic improvement. However, interestingly, the proportion of antagonistic QTLs (0.1591) in maize × maize with long-term selection was very similar to that (0.1467) in the maize × teosinte (Zea mays subsp. parviglumis) crosses. It suggested that some favorable traits could be cultivated within a few decades if we carry out strong selection. In addition, the proportions of antagonistic QTLs of the widely cultivated hybrids of rice (Minghui 63 × Zhenshan 97) and maize (Zheng 58 × Chang 7-2) in China were 0.309 and 0.3472 respectively. It suggested that selection during modern genetic improvement has significantly acted on them.  相似文献

Citrus depressa Hayata is an indigenous mandarin species on the Ryukyu Islands located in the subtropical region of Japan. We deduced its phylogenetic relationships by evaluating accessions grown on various Ryukyu Islands via cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence analysis of cpDNA and sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP). The cpDNA results indicated that C. depressa could be classified into two types. SRAP revealed patterns of diversity within C. depressa consistent with our cpDNA results. These results indicate that maternal origin may influence or is correlated with the constitution of the nuclear genome of C. depressa. Another Japanese mandarin species, Citrus tachibana (Makino) Tanaka was distinguished from C. depressa by SRAP markers. Moreover, both C. depressa and C. tachibana could be distinguished from other Citrus species. Our results suggest that Japanese mandarin possesses a characteristic genome with the genus Citrus.  相似文献

Purpose

The effect on P uptake by plants after inoculation with P-mobilizing microorganisms may be modulated by soil properties, including natural microbiota. However, to put this theory into practical use, research is needed to shed new light on the soil factors which affect the capability of improving P nutrition in plants. The aim of this study was to assess how two P-mobilizing microorganisms, Trichoderma asperellum T34 and Bacillus subtilis QST713, influence P uptake by wheat plants in different soils; this will allow us to identify the soil properties which affect the efficiency of P nutrition in plants.

Materials and methods

In a completely randomized experiment, wheat was grown in pots in a growing chamber in soils with Olsen P values ranging from 4.8 to 8.7 mg kg?1. The plants were inoculated with three treatments: T34, B. subtilis, and a non-inoculated control.

Results and discussion

Overall, B. subtilis was more effective in increasing plant P uptake and in mobilizing soil P (measured as Olsen P values) than T34. In some soils, B. subtilis was the only treatment which increased Olsen P in the rhizosphere after cultivation. However, the effect of both microorganisms differed depending on the soil. For B. subtilis, phytase hydrolysable P, Olsen P, carbonates, the Feca/Fecbd ratio, and citrate-soluble P accounted for 92% of the variation in P uptake in inoculated plants (compared with the non-inoculated control). Most of these soil properties also accounted for 87% of the variation in the levels of shoot dry matter (DM) in B. subtilis-inoculated plants compared with shoot DM in the control plants. In addition, Olsen P, the Feca/Fecbd ratio, and phytase hydrolysable P in the NaOH extracts accounted for 82 and 74% of the variation in the effect of T34 on P uptake and shoot DM, respectively. Overall, the lower the initial Olsen P in the soil, the higher the P uptake caused by microorganisms.

Conclusions

The initial availability of P and organic P in soil, in addition to other properties affecting P dynamics in the soil, may explain the triggering and efficiency of the P-mobilizing mechanisms in microorganisms. These are crucial in explaining the potential benefits to crops and, as a result, their practical use as a bio-fertilizer.

Although dilution of lake water has been used for improvement of water quality and algal blooms control, it has not necessarily succeeded to suppress the blooms. We hypothesized that the disappearance of algal blooms by dilution could be explained by flow regime, nutrient concentrations, and their interaction. This study investigated the effects of daily renewal rate (d), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentration, and their interaction on the domination between Microcystis aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. through a monoxenic culture experiment. The simulation model as functions of the N:P mass ratio and dilution rate (D) (calculated from d) was constructed, and the dominant characteristics of both species were predicted based on the model using parameters obtained in a monoculture experiment and our previous study. Results of monoxenic culture experiment revealed that M. aeruginosa dominated in all conditions (d = 5 or 15%; N = 1.0 or 2.5 or 5.0 mg-N L?1; P = 0.1 or 0.5 mg-P L?1) and the predicted cell densities were substantially correspondent to experimental data. Under various N:P ratios and D values, characteristics of domination for each species were predicted, indicating that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant under high P concentrations (P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1) when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1). It was also suggested that the dilution rate leading to the Cyclotella sp. domination required 0.20 day?1 or higher regardless of the N:P ratios.
Graphical Abstract ? M. aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. could be a superior competitor in nutrient-limited and nutrient-rich conditions, respectively. ? The simulation model in this study indicated that the predicted cell density and nutrient concentration were substantially correspondent to experimental data. ? The model predicted that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant at the P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1 when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1).

Germplasm collections of C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum are limited, while both species face threats from over-grazing and habitat change in their natural environments. Recently many new accessions of C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum were collected in east and south-east Anatolia (Turkey) but they have not yet been evaluated for agro-morphological traits. Therefore, the current study investigated agro-morphological traits of new germplasm sources of C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum and evaluated resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses for chickpea improvement. The most attractive agro-morphological traits were canopy width, number of stems and pods per plant and biological yield. The most productive accessions of C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum had 712 and 625 pods per plant, respectively. Two distinct seed, flower and leaf shapes were found in accessions of C. echinospermum. Path analyses indicated that biological yield and harvest index had the most direct influence on seed yield in both species. Factor analyses showed that high seed yield in C. reticulatum depended on high biological yield and number of pods per plant, whereas high seed yield in C. echinospermum depended on harvest index. It was concluded that most accessions of C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum were not only resistant to some biotic and abiotic stresses but also had hidden alleles that could produce transgressive segregation in crosses to cultivated material.  相似文献

Phytoremediation is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly technology using plants for the cleanup of both inorganic and organic contaminated sites. In this study, a pot culture experiment has been conducted for 180 days in a greenhouse to examine the capability of Koelreuteria paniculata on pyrene (Pyr) dissipation in contaminated soil. Three treatments were employed and they were: (1) polluted soil with K. paniculata fine roots addition (T1), (2) polluted soil with planted seedlings (T2), and (3) polluted soil (C). Results showed Pyr concentration in soils was reduced by 21.4, 36.2, and 86.4% by natural losses, fine roots addition, and planted K. paniculata treatments, respectively, meaning plants substantially enhanced the dissipation of Pyr from soil. Cultivated K. paniculata seedlings significantly increased soil total nitrogen (TN), total organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and microbial biomass carbon, but not total phosphorus, when compared to the control. The removal efficiency of Pyr was lower in the adding of fine roots treatment than in the planted K. paniculata treatment. The principal component analysis indicated the promotional dissipation of Pyr in soil by planted K. paniculata was likely attributed to increased microbial quantity and activity, DOC, and TN content in the rhizosphere. Our results suggest that K. paniculata is a suitable plant species used in phytoremediation for Pyr-contaminated soils and the efficiency on the dissipation of Pyr is considerably enhanced using living plants than adding dead organic matters. The study provided a reference for the application of K. paniculata in the remediation of Pyr-contaminated soil.  相似文献
