In hatchery, an adequate supply of live food for first‐feeding fish larvae is essential and nutritional quality of live food organisms can be improved through nutrient enrichment. The use of live food organisms, especially at first feeding, is a requisite for most marine fish larvae. In ocean, marine fish larvae primarily feed on copepods, but the production protocols of copepods as live food is underdeveloped in hatchery. As the food ingestion and the digestive system of copepods are different from other live food organisms (e.g. rotifers), the nutrition enrichment procedures with emulsion oil used in rotifers is not effective on copepods. This review focuses on alteration of nutrient composition of copepods through manipulation of copepod food before they are fed to fish larvae. Specifically, we discuss the relationship between the changes of fatty acid compositions in dietary algae and in copepods. The review links nutrient supply to copepods and the change of nutrition in copepods and suggests ways to improve copepod nutrition in hatcheries.  相似文献

Three 30‐day experiments were conducted to evaluate decapsulated Artemia cysts with different quality (high or low hatch‐rate) as food for tench (Tinca tinca L.) larvae from the onset of exogenous feeding. In experiment 1, three diets were tested: Artemia nauplii‐only or cysts‐only for 30 days, and nauplii for the first 7 days and cysts thereafter. The cysts used had 86% hatching rate (high hatch‐rate cysts). The same feeding treatments were replicated in experiment 2 but with low hatch‐rate cysts (10% hatching rate). In experiment 3, five diets were tested: high hatch‐rate cysts only or low hatch‐rate cysts only for 30 days, and nauplii for the first 7, 4 or 2 days and low hatch‐rate cysts thereafter. In overall, survival was high, except with the low hatch‐rate cysts only diet. Feeding tench larvae with cysts resulted in higher growth and lower FCR compared to feeding with live nauplii only. High hatch‐rate Artemia cysts are a suitable food from the onset of exogenous feeding and low hatch‐rate cysts can be successfully used after 2–7 days feeding on nauplii.  相似文献

Decapsulated cysts of Artemia subjected to different heat treatments (40, 60, 80 and 96 °C) were fed to African catfish Clarias gariepinus larvae. Heated cysts, untreated cysts and live Artemia nauplii as control constituted the experimental diets. Protein denaturation and solubility, total alkaline protease and specific trypsin activities in the cyst diets were evaluated. The growth of catfish larvae and the proteolytic activity of larval samples during development were also determined. Heat treatment of cysts increased protein denaturation and decreased protein solubility. The protease activity in the cyst diets decreased with higher heating temperatures. The growth of catfish larvae differed according to the diet; higher fish growth was achieved with nauplii and cysts heated at 40 °C. The digestive enzyme activity in larval samples remained similar in all dietary treatments during larval development. The quality of food protein and the way this protein is processed might be more important for successful larval growth than exogenous enzyme supply.  相似文献

The brine shrimp Artemia franciscana is an important live feed for fish and shellfish larviculture. Cysts of Artemia are naturally found in a wide variety of harsh environments worldwide where they are exposed to different changing environmental conditions. Artemia cysts are also exposed to different hydration/dehydration (H/D) conditions during the post-harvest processing period in the Artemia processing industry. In this study, cysts of two strains of A. franciscana originating from two different geographical locations—one a natural population from Great Salt Lake (GSL), Utah, USA, and the other cultured in the Vinh Chau (VC) salt ponds, Vietnam—where they experience different environmental factors, were exposed to successive hydration/dehydration (H/D) cycles with the aim of determining the effects of these conditions on the stress (i.e., induction of Hsp70) and functional (i.e., resistance toward abiotic and pathogenic biotic factors) responses of the emerged nauplii. Our results showed that a short period of H/D of the cysts did not appear to have a deleterious effect on the emerged nauplii of both strains, as was evidenced by the absence of significant difference in the survival of nauplii emerged from the control and treated cysts, upon challenge with a thermal stressor or with pathogenic Vibrio campbellii. A limited exposure to H/D treatment even leads to the induction of enhanced thermotolerance in GSL nauplii. In essence, these observations add some insights to our current understanding of stress responses in Artemia under the described experimental conditions. In addition, the impact of H/D cycles associated with stress response should be taken into consideration when Artemia is considered as a model organism for future research and applications.  相似文献

Two experiments were carried out to test microparticulate diets forweaning hatchery-produced larvae and juveniles of bullseye pufferSphoeroides annulatus. The diets were formulated with differentprotein sources: diet 1 with a combination of decapsulated cysts ofArtemia and fishmeal, and diet 2 with a combination offishmeal, squid, tuna gonad and shrimp meal. In the first experiment60-days-old fish were weaned with the microdiets over five days. Fishsurvival after 11 weeks of feeding was 92% for diet 1, 85%for diet 2, and 95% for the control fish fed Artemianauplii. Once it was determined that bullseye puffer can be adequatelyreared with artificial dry diets, diet 1 was used to test earlier timesfor weaning to reduce the period of Artemia feeding. In thesecond experiment, three different times were tested for initiation ofweaning in sibling fish larvae, i.e., at 29, 34, and 39 days post-hatch.Small differences in weight, length and survival were found amongweaning treatments after 23 days of feeding. When weaned at day 29post-hatch, fish larvae grew from an initial weight of 38.4 mg andlength of 11.1 mm to a final weight and length of 405.7 mg and 25.1 mmrespectively. Final survival in this treatment was 49.3%. Thereduced period of Artemia feeding would provide an economicalalternative for the species to take into consideration for its cultureat commercial scale.  相似文献

The nutritional quality of biofilm, a microbial community associated to an organic matrix, was evaluated in artificial substrate (polyethylene screen) in net cages during 30 days in the Patos Lagoon estuary, Southern Brazil. During this period, samples of biofilm were collected each 5 days for analysis of chlorophyll a, microorganisms abundance, dry weight, protein and lipid contents. During the study, chlorophyll a varied from 0.38 to 2.75 μg cm?2; dry weight between 7.16 and 17.63 mg cm?2; protein content from 0.43 to 1.76 mg cm?2 and lipid concentration between 1.21 and 4.23 mg cm?2. The variation of lipid in the biofilm was closely related to the abundance of free heterotrophic bacteria (34.25–56.54 × 106 cells cm?2), filamentous cyanobacteria (7.5–15.9 × 106 filaments cm?2), flagellates (6.92–12.89 × 106 cells cm?2) and mainly nematodes (29–1,414 organisms cm?2), while protein content varied similarly to the abundance of unicellular centric diatoms (52.10–179.81 × 103 cells cm?2), and nematodes. This information will allow a better management of food supply to raised aquatic organism with the utilization of natural productivity in the culture systems, with considerable decrease in production costs.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effect of exogenous digestive enzymes on the survival, growth performance and morphology of the digestive tract of juveniles of the longsnout seahorse Hippocampus reidi fed exclusively with Artemia and supplemented with five different concentrations of porcine pancreatin (PP) (0, 5, 25, 50 and 75 mg/L from birth until 30 days after release). The results found in the present study clearly show that there was a significant increase in survival and growth as well as substantial changes in the morphology of intestinal villi in seahorses fed exclusively with Artemia supplemented with 75 mg/L PP. Therefore, the use of digestive enzyme supplementation constitutes an important advance for the establishment of a more efficient and practical feeding protocol (exclusive use of Artemia) for juveniles of the longsnout seahorse.  相似文献

A 7-week experimental study was performed to evaluate the effect of five concentrations of adult live Artemia (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 L−1) as exogenous natural feed on the water quality and production parameters of juvenile (0.2 ± 0.01 g) shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) pre-grown intensively (125 organism m−2) under laboratory conditions (80 L plastic tanks). No significant differences were observed in the environmental variables among treatments. Total ammonium nitrogen, nitrates and phosphates recorded higher concentrations in all the treatments using artemia, as compared with the treatment without Artemia. In all the cases, the levels remained within or close to the ranges considered necessary for the farming of the species. The highest weight gain and biomass were obtained in the treatments with 3 and 4 Artemia L−1. The best feed conversion ratio were recorded using 2 Artemia L−1 and the highest with 0 Artemia L−1. No differences in survival were detected among treatments. The greatest concentrations of nitrogenous metabolites achieved at the highest densities of Artemia were lower than the LC50 for penaied shrimp and no negative effect was observed on the survival of the shrimp. These results clearly indicate that the use of adult live Artemia as exogenous natural feed significantly increased the production parameters of the Pacific white shrimp.  相似文献

Fractional factorial design is a practical approach for studying multiple factors, with a minimum of experimental units. The objective of this work was to study the simultaneous effects of nutritional and environmental factors on both growth and flesh quality of common perch (Perca fluviatilis), a new inland aquaculture species. This study sought answering the two following questions: (i) which combinations of factors allow improving growth, food efficiency, and technological, sensorial and nutritional qualities? (ii) is it possible to simultaneously improve growth performances and flesh quality? In a first experiment, twelve factors (7 nutritional and 5 environmental factors) were each tested at 2 levels in a fractional factorial design in 24 independent recirculating 500 L tanks. The best 4 combinations identified in this first experiment were then validated in a second experiment. The first phase of the multifactorial approach used here allowed revealing emergent information: i) there is a combination of factors that allows reducing both the heterogeneity of the production and the losses of nitrates and phosphates, while preserving good characteristics of growth and quality of fillets; ii) it is possible to improve the quality of the aquatic production system, without decreasing significantly growth efficiency; iii) the effect of a given factor, even such an important one like diet, temperature or target biomass, depends on the levels of the other rearing factor levels, thus the usual reference optimum used for a given factor has no meaning theoretically and can be questioned according to the levels of the other factors which act altogether on the functioning of the rearing system. The input factor combinations resulting in a significant enhancement of single output variables or several output variables were identified (e.g. improvement of feed efficiency, and/or fillet docosahexanoic acid content). Our results clearly demonstrate a strong interdependence of input factors into the animal rearing system, particularly between nutritional and environmental ones.  相似文献

This study brings an integrated analysis about the relationship between water deterioration and its physiological consequences in live fish transport. The analysis was focused on the transport water and its deterioration, and physiological challenges imposed on the fish. Usual commercial handling procedures employed to mitigate fish stress during transport were discussed. Future topics of research for the establishment of safer fish transport protocols were proposed. Transport was classified into short (≤8 h) or long transport (>8 h). The main issue in short transports should be the prevention of water pH reduction, while in long transports it is the increase in ammonia. Plasma cortisol is the most employed marker for stress and is acutely elevated upon short episodes of transport, but remains elevated even in long‐transport events. Plasma glucose is perhaps a better marker for handling stress. Plasma lactate, pH, osmolality CO2 and ions should be more often evaluated. Plasma Na+ and Cl are very useful markers of acidosis, due to their respective exchange for H+ and , for acid–base regulation. The establishment of species‐specific transport protocols should be preceded by such combined analyses of water and physiological parameters.  相似文献

Abstract. One hundred and ninety-eight fry of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L., were reared in outdoor tanks containing 9580 1 of water under five management schemes — separate live-food system (LF), intermediate system (I), static manured system (M), manured system with water exchange (EM) and supplementary food system (SF) — in triplicate for a growing period of 90 days. Examination of frequency distribution of different weight groups of fishes at the time of harvest showed a maximum proportion of larger and smaller fishes in the live-food and supplementary food system, respectively. Maximum growth and production of common carp in the LF treatment was the consequence of greater abundance of plankton food and improvement of water quality expressed in terms of higher values of pH and DO and lower values of COD and BOD.  相似文献

Growth and survival rates of smallmouth bass ( Micropterus dolomieui ) were compared for fishes reared from larval stages, for three weeks using different feeding regimes. Diets consisted of a commercial dry diet formulated for larval fishes, the dry diet plus Artemia salina nauplii, and Artemia salina nauplii alone. Smallmouth bass on the three diets showed average daily gains of 0.7, 0.7 and 0.5 mm/day and 11.0, 11.4 and 5.2 mg/day, respectively. Condition factors for the three diets were not significantly different ( P > 0.05). Mean survival rates were 39, 85 and 77% respectively.  相似文献

One of the major problems in the shrimp culture industry is the difficulty in producing high-quality shrimp larvae. In larviculture, quality feeds containing a high content of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) and ingredients that stimulate stress and disease resistance are essential to produce healthy shrimp larvae. In the present study, Penaeus monodon postlarvae (PL15) were fed for 25 days on an unenriched Artemia diet (control; A) or on a diet of Artemia enriched with either HUFA-rich liver oil of the trash fish Odonus niger (B), probionts [Lactobacillus acidophilus (C1) or yeast-Saccharomyces cerevisiae (C2)] or biomedicinal herbal products (D) that have anti-stress, growth-promoting and anti-microbial characteristics. P. monodon postlarvae fed unenriched Artemia exhibited the lowest weight gain (227.9 ± 8.30 mg) and specific growth rate (9.95 ± 0.05%), while those fed the HUFA-enriched Artemia (B) exhibited the highest weight gain and specific growth rate (362.34 ± 12.56 mg and 11.77 ± 0.08%, respectively). At the end of the 25-day rearing experiment, the shrimp postlarvae (PL40) were subjected to a salinity stress study. At both low and high (0 and 50‰) salinities, the group fed the control diet (A) experienced the highest cumulative mortality indices (CMI) 935.7 ± 2.1 and 1270.7 ± 3.1, respectively. Those fed diet D showed the lowest stress-induced mortality, and CMI were reduced by 31.1 and 32.3% under conditions of low and high salinity stress, respectively. A 10-day disease challenge test was conducted with the P. monodon postlarvae (PL40–PL50) by inoculating the shrimp with the pathogen Vibrio harveyi at the rate of 105–107 CFU/ml in all rearing tanks. P. monodon postlarvae fed probiont-encapsulated Artemia diets (C1 and C2) exhibited the highest survival (94.3 and 82.3%, respectively) and lowest pathogen load (V. harveyi) in hepatopancreas (5.2 × 102 ± 9.0 × 10 and 4.6 × 102 ± 9.0 × 10 CFU g−1, respectively) and muscle (2.0 × 102 ± 6 × 10 and 1.7 × 102 ± 8.6 × 10 CFU g−1, respectively) tissues. The shrimp that were fed the unenriched Artemia (Control; A) showed the lowest survival (26.33%) and highest bacterial load in the hepatopancreas (1.0 × 105 ± 5 × 103 CFU g−1) and muscle (3.6 × 104 ± 6 × 102 CFU g−1). The shrimp fed the herbal product (D)-enriched Artemia also exhibited enhanced survival and reduced V. harveyi load in the tissues tested compared to the control diet (A) group. The results are discussed in terms of developing a quality larval feed to produce healthy shrimp larvae.  相似文献

A comparative hatching study has been carried out with Reference Artemia Cysts as well as cysts from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Italy, the People's Republic of China, the Philippines and the U.S.A. Hatching rate, percentage and efficiency vary considerably from one cyst source to another. These hatching criteria are, however, not strainspecific since significant variation is found among cyst batches from the same geographical origin.

The limitations of the “hatching efficiency” concept are discussed and a new criterion “hatching output”, i.e. the biomass of nauplii expressed in mg dry weight produced per gram cyst product, is proposed for evaluation of the hatching quality of Artemia cyst brands.

The hatching quality of Reference Cysts and cysts from Canada and Argentina can be significantly improved by incubation of the cysts at low salinity.

For almost all commercial sources the use of decapsulated cysts results in a significant increase of the hatching output.  相似文献

The effect of carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio manipulation in feed supplements on Artemia production and water quality was investigated in solar salt ponds in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. It was assumed that development of bacterial bioflocs through C/N manipulation would improve Artemia production and water quality as demonstrated in freshwater and marine aquaculture. Twelve ponds were used for three treatments and the control, in triplicates. Green water (GW) was supplied to all ponds, with the standard Vietnamese procedure of supplying GW and chicken manure (CM) as the control (C/N 1.8). Treatment ponds were supplemented with tapioca (TAP) as carbon source, combined with either CM, pig manure (PM) or rice bran (RB), with C/N ratios of 7.4, 10.5 or 20.1 respectively. After 6 weeks of culture, no single treatment supported both improved water quality and enhanced Artemia production. Overall, improved water quality was observed at C/N 20.1 and higher Artemia production at C/N 7.4. Although external field factors could have interfered with the set‐up, this is the first study on the effect of C/N manipulation in feed supplements in Artemia pond production systems and provides the basis for development of bacterial bioflocs as a technology to improve water quality and Artemia production.  相似文献

Highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), like the eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids and polar lipids (essentially phospholipids, PL) have been identified as essential nutrients for common octopus (Octopus vulgaris) paralarvae. However, they are not available in sufficient amounts in live preys as Artemia, making necessary a supplementation of these nutrients previous use. A commercial emulsion, soya liposomes, and marine and soya lecithins were used to supply HUFA and PL to Artemia metanauplii, those being regarded as suitable size preys for octopus paralarvae. Our results prove that a simultaneous enrichment in HUFA and PL is possible using enrichment diets combining HUFA‐ and PL‐rich products in short‐term (4 h) incubations. Particularly interesting was the enrichment efficiency shown by the marine lecithin, which enabled the enhancement of the PL fraction of Artemia metanauplii and, importantly, also their HUFA with a remarkable 13% DHA of total fatty acids. Marine lecithin arises as a novel enrichment diet for Artemia and more effective than some commercial products currently used in hatcheries worldwide.  相似文献

The ante mortem determinism of the quality components in fish is multivariate. Among the various influencing factors, the effects of (i) rearing biomass, (ii) dietary features and (iii) domestication process on the technological and nutritional variables in perch Perca fluviatilis here were studied using two-levels fractional factorial design 24-1 (resolution IV). This work allowed identifying two main factors, i.e. domestication and diet composition, which influence both technological and nutritional variables. Domestication was the parameter showing the greatest effect on both filleting yield (FY) and total saturated fatty acids (SFA) content, whereas diet composition chiefly influenced viscerosomatic index (VSI) and total poly- and mono-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA and MUFA) contents. Domesticated fish exhibited higher FY (42.8%) and total SFA (25.1% of total fatty acids or FA) content than wild fish (FY = 40.1%, total SFA = 22.9%). Concerning the effect of food composition, diet including only fish oil as lipid source (FO) induced higher VSI than diet including vegetable oil (FV) VSI = 8.8% vs 7.4%, respectively). Moreover, FV diet induced higher n-6 PUFA but lower n-3 PUFA contents in fillets than did the FO diet (total n-6 PUFA = 6.3% vs 5.4% and total n-3 PUFA = 52.6% vs 55.2% of total FA respectively). FV fish fillets had significantly higher total MUFA (17.7% of total FA) contents in muscle than FO fish (14.8%). Concerning this last variable, domestication played only a role in interaction with diet composition. With FO diet, no difference in total MUFA content between wild and domesticated perch was noticed. However, total MUFA content increased with FV diet and was significantly higher in fillets of wild fish (18.7% vs 16.6% of total FA for domesticated). No effect of either feeding rate or initial biomass on the body composition was noticed. In addition, perivisceral fat content was not influenced by any treatment.  相似文献

The present study examined the distribution of particle sizes in two experimental standardized lipid emulsions (distributed by ICES, International Council for the Exploration of the Sea) as a function of the preparation method (hand shaking or ultrasonic blending) and as a function of storage time. A 24-h enrichment trial compared the incorporated HUFA levels in the nauplii of Artemia franciscana .
The emulsion droplets in the 50% HUFA emulsion (ICES 50, ethyl ester based) were much smaller than in the 30% HUFA emulsion (ICES 30, triacylglycerol-based) in which 90% of the droplets had a diameter below 12.3 μm as compared to 1.3 pn in ICES 50. The blending method highly affected particle sizes. High-shear blending instead of the classical hand shaking of the emulsion of both ICES 30 and 50 reduced the mean particle size from 5.06 to 1.07 μm and from 0.38 to 0.11 μm, respectively. The particle size distributions remained stable during the 1-wk storage, suggesting the absence of agglomeration or bacterial development. The fatty acid composition of 24-h enriched Artemia reflected differences in the HUFA profile of the emulsions, but was independent of observed differences in the size of the particles.  相似文献
