The influence of protein level in a purified diet and of density on the growth of Anguilla anguilla in indoor and outdoor containers was examined. The average weight increase of eels that were fed on a diet of pellets containing 35%, 45%, or 55% protein was significantly higher than the mean weight increase of eels fed on pellets containing 25% protein. The production per m3 was higher in the groups fed 45% or 55% protein level in the diet than in the groups fed 25% or 35% protein. Dissolved oxygen in the water of the growing tanks was 7–9 ppm in all groups. Ammonia production was lower in the group fed on pellets containing 25% protein and higher in the groups receiving higher protein diets.Eel growth at low density (4 kg/m3) was almost the same as at high density (30 kg/m3) for both slowly growing and moderately growing eels. Production was higher in the groups stocked at high density and lower in those stocked at low densities. The production of slowly growing eels was lower than that of moderately growing eels.  相似文献

The effect of partially replacing protein by carbohydrates in eel (Anguilla anguilla) diets was studied. The growth of eels fed 40% protein and 38% wheat meal was greater than that of eels fed 50% protein and 20% wheat meal or 30% protein and 56% wheat meal.The body fat of eels fed a high carbohydrate diet was greater (weight/weight) than the body fat of eels fed a low carbohydrate diet. The food conversion value was lower in eels fed 40% protein than eels fed 50% or 30% protein. However, the protein efficiency ratio was lower in eels fed a low percentage of protein (30%) than that of eels fed a high percentage of protein (40% or 50%).  相似文献

Mibolerone (MI), a synthetic steroid, was used to sex-reverse undifferentiated Oreochromis aureus fry. Fry were exposed to 0.0, 0.3, 0.6, or 1.0 ppm MI in static-water solutions for five weeks (immersion treatments) or were fed a diet containing 1.0 ppm MI for four weeks in a flow-through system. Following hormone treatment, the fish were grown to over 60 mm total length prior to sex determination using gonadal squash examination. Fish immersed in 1.0, 0.6, or 0.3 ppm MI had average tissue MI concentrations of 14.4, 5.6, and 3.3 ppm, respectively. Immersion in either 1.0 or 0.6 ppm MI for five weeks resulted in an average of 82% males and 18% ovo-testicular fish (inter-sex fish) with no gonadal females being produced. Exposure to 0.3 ppm MI resulted in 78.7% males, 20.7% ovo-testicular fish, and 0.7% gonadal females. Feeding a diet containing 1.0 ppm MI resulted in 85% males, 11% ovo-testicular fish, and 4% gonadal females. Fry growth and survival were negatively correlated with the MI concentration of the immersion treatments. Exposing tilapia fry to static-water solutions of 0.6 ppm MI for five weeks appears to be a feasible method of eliminating the production of functional females. Immersion solutions should be changed at least weekly to maintain an effective hormone concentration.  相似文献

Rainbow trout fed a normal salt diet (1.3% NaCl) or a high salt diet (12% NaCl for at least 6 months) were chronically cannulated in the dorsal aorta and received 10 μg kg−1 ANP (1–28 human, UBC-Bioproducts) infused over a 10 min period. This had an insignificant influence on sodium balance, blood electrolytes and branchial sodium fluxes. In fish given a normal diet, the blood pressure and heart rate were uninfluenced by ANP, but pulse pressure was reduced by on average 60% and in some cases was not evident at all. Blood pressure in the fish fed a high salt diet was significantly higher than in the control fish; this together with heart rate and pulse pressure was not affected by ANP administration.  相似文献

Elvers and glass eels of Anguilla anguilla were fed diets containing two types of feeding stimulants (FS) that were based on processed marine (MBFS) and yeast proteins (YBFS). Elvers (1.5 ± 0.3 g) were fed seven diets (MBFS and YBFS diets at 20 g kg?1, 40 g kg?1 and 60 g kg?1 plus control) for 60 days. Glass eels (250 ± 100 mg) were weaned to 60 g kg?1 MBFS, 60 g kg?1 YBFS and control diets for 30 days. Diets containing 60 g kg?1 FS had a beneficial effect in terms of growth, homogenous size distribution and feed intake in elvers. Elvers fed 60 g kg?1 MBFS and YBFS diets grew 11.9% and 5.6% faster than the control group. No differences in growth and size distribution were detected in glass eels fed 60 g kg?1 MBFS and YBFS diets. However, FS affected the digestive system maturation; fish fed the 60 g kg?1 MBFS and YBFS diets showed higher and intermediate values in the specific enzyme activities in comparison with the control group. This study revealed that the incorporation of FS into a pelleted diet was beneficial on the overall performance of European glass eels and elvers. However, the observed results were different depending on the eel’s stage of development, as well as the type and inclusion level of the FS.  相似文献

There is expanding interest in the culture of the Australian shortfin eel Anguilla australis Richardson; however, there is a lack of fundamental biology and husbandry information necessary to further develop an industry within Australia. The present study was undertaken to gain a preliminary understanding of basic husbandry requirements for rearing of juvenile A. australis (glass eels and elvers) in tanks and earthen ponds. Newly caught glass eels were successfully acclimated to culture conditions. During tank culture trials, specific growth rates (SGR) and survival rates ranged from ?2.1 to 2.8% day?1 and 52% to 100% respectively. Glass eels weaned onto a commercial eel diet exhibited a significantly greater SGR and survival rate than those weaned onto a commercial trout diet. Glass eels weaned onto an eel diet over a 15‐day period grew slightly faster than eels weaned over a 5‐day period, but survival rates were not significantly different for each treatment. SGRs (up to 2.8% day?1) were significantly higher for glass eels fed at 9 and 12% day?1 than at 6% day?1. Stocking densities between 2.5 kg m?3 and 30 kg m?3 did not influence either SGR or survival rates. SGRs were significantly higher for glass eels cultured at 25 °C than at lower temperatures. During pond culture trials, SGRs and survival rates ranged from 1.36 to 1.65% day?1 and 39% to 77% respectively. The SGR and survival rates of juvenile eels stocked into ponds receiving supplementary feeding with a commercial eel diet were not significantly different to those of eels stocked into ponds that did not receive supplementary feeding.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to determine the influence of orally administered 3,3,5-triiodo-L-thyronine (T3) or 17--methyltestosterone (MT) on growth and body composition of the eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) during the glass stage.Elvers receiving 20 or 40 ppm of T3 in the food weighed significantly more (P < 0.05) than controls. However, after 61 days of treatment a dosage of 60 ppm was not efficacious.Terminal percentages of body protein were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in elvers that received 20 ppm or 40 ppm T3 in their diets, than in the control. Crude body fat content was higher (P < 0.05) in elvers receiving 20 ppm (29% fat) or 40 ppm (28% fat), than in the controls (26% fat). Compared to the control, diets containing T3 at 20 or 40 ppm increased the body glucose concentration.Glass eels fed a diet containing 1 or 10 ppm MT grew significantly more slowly (P < 0.05) than the controls.Total body protein content was higher (P < 0.05), but total body crude fat content was lower (P < 0.05) in elvers fed a diet with 1 or 10 ppm MT compared to the controls. Total body glucose concentration of elvers administered 10 ppm MT was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than that of the control groups.  相似文献

Groups of one‐year‐old smolts of Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus L.) reared under a simulated natural photoperiod were fed pelleted feed with a NaCl content of either 1.5% or 9.5% for 6 weeks before release in a river in northern Norway. There were no differences in growth before release between fish fed the two diets. Smolts fed the 9.5% NaCl diet had better hypo‐osmoregulatory ability than those fed the 1.5% diet, and a level of gill Na+‐K+‐ATPase activity that was several times higher. One of the two groups that had been fed the 9.5% NaCl diet had both a significantly higher recapture rate and growth in sea than the two groups fed the 1.5% NaCl diet, whereas this was not true for the other 9.5% NaCl diet group. The results indicate that a NaCl‐enriched diet could be used to ensure sufficient hypo‐osmoregulatory ability of charr smolts that would otherwise have insufficient regulatory ability.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine if deoxynivalenol (DON) exposure alters the susceptibility of rainbow trout to bacterial coldwater disease caused by Flavobacterium psychrophilum. Rainbow trout were fed a nutritionally complete diet containing corn that was naturally contaminated with DON at a desired concentration of <0.5 (control and pair‐fed treatments), 4 or 6 ppm over 7 weeks to apparent satiation. After 4 weeks, fish were infected by intraperitoneal injection with F. psychrophilum (3.03x106 CFU mL?1) via intraperitoneal injection and monitored for morbidity and mortality. A significant linear reduction in feed intake was associated with increasing dietary levels of DON contamination over the initial 4 weeks. There was a significant reduction (P < 0.05) in cumulative per cent mortality in DON‐fed groups (4.1 ppm, 11%; 5.9 ppm, 7%) in comparison to control (46%) and pair‐fed (25%) groups at 21 days post infection. Mortality of trout pair‐fed the control diet was also significantly lower (P < 0.05) than the control group fed to apparent satiation. A replicate trial using genetically similar fish and the same experimental design produced similar results. These results suggest that DON exposure and restricted feed intake provided a protective effect for rainbow trout infected with F. psychrophilum.  相似文献

To determine the existence of preabsorptive reflex responses in fish, plasma glucose, insulin and glucagon were measured in striped bass (Morone saxatilis) pre-feeding (baseline: 0 min) and at five times post-feeding (5, 10, 20 and 40 min) following a 15 h fast. Two diets were fed, a basal agar-gel diet, and the agar-gel diet supplemented with a previously identified feeding stimulant mixture comprised of L-alanine, L-serine, betaine and inosine-5-monophosphate at equimolar concentrations (0.1 mol l). After 11 days, blood samples were obtained from the caudal vein. In fish fed the stimulant diet, plasma insulin increased at 5 and 10 min post-feeding but fish fed the basal diet had lower levels than baseline after 5, 10 and 20 min. Glucagon levels were increased in fish fed the stimulant diet at 0–10 min post-feeding, then decreased to levels similar to fish fed the basal diet. Glucose levels were elevated in both treatments post-feeding and were similar in both treatments. These results indicate that there is an early phase of reflex insulin and glucagon secretion in fish, shortly after the beginning of a meal, as has been described in mammals and birds. Furthermore, feed palatability may play an important role in insulin and glucagon secretion.  相似文献

Abstract. Groups of European eels, Anguilla anguilla L., were fed on one of three diets, each at a different level of metabolic energy. These were constituted by combining 10%, 20% or 30% sucrose with 61%, 54% or 46% protein respectively. Eels fed a high percentage (30%) of sucrose grew faster than those on a high percentage of protein. Feed conversion and protein retention were higher for eels fed the high sucrose: low protein diet than for those fed with the lower proportions of sucrose. Blood plasma glucose concentration was higher in the elvers fed a high proportion of sucrose. However, the muscle glucose concentration was almost the same in ail experimental groups. Liver glycogen concentration was higher in elvers fed a high proportion of sucrose.  相似文献

Juvenile Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were fed with diets supplemented with 0 or 6% NaCl for 10 weeks. Tilapia were exposed to approximately 21 mg/l nitrite-N after 5 and 10 weeks of feeding to determine the effect of dietary NaCl supplementation on resistance to nitrite toxicity. Fish were sampled before (baseline, pre-exposure) and after 24 h nitrite exposure to determine the effects of dietary NaCl on mortality, hematology (hematocrit, hemoglobin, and methemoglobin), and plasma electrolyte dynamics (nitrite, chloride, sodium, and potassium). After 10 weeks of feeding, tilapia were also challenged with Streptococcus iniae to determine the effect of sodium chloride on immunity. Tilapia fed with the NaCl-supplemented diet had significantly higher weight gain compared with the control group, which was associated with a significant increase in feed intake in the NaCl group. Mortality from nitrite exposure was lower in tilapia fed with the NaCl-supplemented diet compared with the control group at 5 and 10 weeks, but the differences were not significant. However, dietary NaCl supplementation caused a significant decrease in plasma nitrite levels after nitrite exposure. The dietary reduction in nitrite may be related to the increase in plasma chloride in the 6% NaCl-supplemented fish. A direct link between the effects of dietary NaCl supplementation on methemoglobin (MetHb) could not be established. Tilapia in this study were subjected to acute nitrite toxicity. Dietary sodium chloride may be more effective in protecting against nitrite toxicity at lower levels of nitrite, but the conditions at which it proves to be effective may be limited and requires further investigation. Feeding NaCl to tilapia did not affect susceptibility to S. iniae or immune function, but nitrite exposure cause a stress-related reduction in non-specific immune function. This is the first study to examine the effects of dietary salt on nitrite toxicity in tilapia.  相似文献

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary inclusion of defatted Chlorella on growth performance, body composition, blood biochemistry, and antioxidant enzyme activity in olive flounder. Four isonitrogenous (51% crude protein) diets were formulated to contain 0 (control), 5, 10, or 15% Chlorella meal (CM) (designated as Con, CM5, CM10, and CM15, respectively) and fed to triplicate groups of fish (104.4 g) to apparent satiation twice daily for 8 wk. At the end of the feeding trial, significant enhancement (P < 0.05) in growth performance was obtained at over 10% CM compared to fish fed the control diet. No significant changes in dorsal muscle and liver proximate composition were found following CM administration. The groups fed CM‐containing diets revealed significantly lower plasma cholesterol concentration than those fed the control diet. Dietary CM affected antioxidant enzyme activity; significantly higher plasma catalase activity was found in fish fed ≥10% CM and total antioxidant capacity increased in CM5 and CM10 groups compared to the control. However, plasma glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities were not significantly influenced by dietary CM. Also, significant enhancement in 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picryl‐hydrazyl radical scavenging activity was found in dorsal muscle of fish fed CM15 diet compared to the control. The findings in this study showed that dietary inclusion of 10–15% CM can enhance growth performance and affect antioxidant enzyme activity and lipid metabolism in olive flounder.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to investigate whether dietary ration or diet composition influence the relationship between plasma growth hormone (GH) and insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1) in Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus L.). The pattern of changes in plasma GH and IGF‐1 concentrations was examined in fish fed at different ration levels (0%, 0.35% and 0.70% BW day−1) for 5 weeks, and in fish fed diets containing different lipid:crude protein (LCP) ratios. Ration level significantly affected plasma GH and IGF‐1 concentrations; at 5 weeks the levels of both hormones in the food‐deprived group were significantly lower than in fish fed the 0.70% BW day−1 ration. Also, plasma IGF‐1 levels in fish of each ration treatment group were significantly correlated with individual final body weight; no such correlation was found for GH. To examine the effects of dietary LCP ratios, fish were fed for up to 18 weeks, with one of four formulated diets that had LCP ratios (dry matter basis) of 0.35 (Diet 1), 0.43 (Diet 2), 0.51 (Diet 3) or 0.59 (Diet 4), or a commercial diet (Diet 5) which had an LCP ratio of 0.38. Statistical differences in plasma GH and IGF‐1 concentrations were found only after 18 weeks. Growth hormone was significantly lower in fish fed Diets 1 and 2 compared with Diets 3 and 5, and IGF‐1 was significantly lower in fish fed Diet 1 compared with Diets 2 and 5. Significant correlations between plasma GH and IGF‐1 concentrations were found only for fish fed Diets 1 and 5, suggesting that the influence of diet composition on the relationship between GH and IGF‐1 varies with the dietary LCP ratio in this species. The decline in plasma IGF‐1 concentrations during food deprivation is similar to that described in other species; however, the unexpected decrease in plasma GH during food deprivation in this study may represent a species‐specific response.  相似文献

European eels (Anguilla anguilla, L.) were fed on a commercial diet supplemented either with 15% by dry feed weight of menhaden oil (MO), an oil rich in highly unsaturated fatty acids of the n-3 series (n-3 HUFA), or with 15% by dry feed weight of coconut oil (CO), an oil composed primarily of saturated fatty acids (SFA). Following 90 days of feeding, the mean final masses of eels fed the two different oil supplements were similar, and higher than the mean final mass of a group fed the commercial diet alone. The diets created two distinct phenotypes of eels, distinguished by the fatty acid (FA) composition of their tissue lipids. Eels fed MO had significantly more total n-3 FA and n-3 HUFA in muscle and liver lipids than did eels fed CO, leading to higher n-3/n-6 and eicosapentaenoic acid/arachidonic acid ratios in the MO group. Measurements of O2 uptake (MO2) revealed that the MO group had a significantly lower routine metabolic rate (RMR) than the CO group. When exposed to progressive hypoxia, both groups regulated MO2 at routine normoxic levels until critical water O2 partial pressures that were statistically similar (9.62±1.08 kPa in MO versus 7.57±1.07 kPa in CO), beyond which they showed a reduction in MO2 below RMR. The MO group exhibited a significantly lower MO2 than the CO group throughout hypoxic exposure, but the percentage reductions in MO2 below their relative RMR were equal in both groups. During recovery to normoxia, both groups exhibited an increase in MO2 to rates significantly higher than their RMR. Throughout recovery, MO2 was significantly lower in the MO group compared with the CO group, but the percentage increases in MO2 relative to RMR were equal in both. During progressive hypoxia, neither group exhibited a marked ventilatory reflex response, both showed similar reductions in blood O2 partial pressure and content, and similar increases in plasma lactate. The results indicate that, although the n-3 HUFA-enriched MO group had a significantly lower routine metabolic rate than the CO group, the difference in aerobic metabolism did not influence the European eel's homeostatic regulation of MO2 in hypoxia.  相似文献

We examined the effects of tetrodotoxin (TTX) administration on artificially raised tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes juvenile survival after release into a mesocosm with predators to clarify the ecological significance of TTX. Pellets containing three different concentrations of TTX [0 as the control, 7 and 14 mouse units (MU)/g diet] were fed to non-toxic artificially raised T. rubripes juveniles for 10 days. TTX accumulation in the various tissues of fish was detected except for in the control diet group. TTX administration did not affect survival or growth of the fish. One hundred fish from each diet group were released together after TTX administration into a salt pond mesocosm (2650 m2) with predators (Lateolabrax sp.) for 5 days. Survival after release was significantly higher in both the fish fed with the 7 MU TTX/g diet (62%) and the 14 MU TTX/g diet (74%) than in the control fish (32%).  相似文献

Two hundred rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) age 0 +, weight range 11.3 – 11.5 g, were distributed randomly in two groups and maintained for five weeks on either 10% dextrin, or 20% dextrin diet. The fish were sampled 3–5 h and 18–20 h after the last feeding and insulin binding to partially purified insulin receptors in white and red skeletal muscles and to liver plasma membranes was assessed. Plasma insulin, plasma glucose, and liver glycogen content were analyzed in the same fish.Fish fed a diet with higher carbohydrate content (HC) had elevated insulin and glucose levels in peripheral blood, but lower liver glycogen contents compared to the fish fed a diet with lower carbohydrate content (LC). No growth retardation was observed in the fish from HC group.Three to five hours after the last feeding, insulin-receptor binding in white skeletal muscles was higher in HC group of fish, mostly because of an increase in number of high affinity binding sites. Eighteen to twenty hours after the last feeding this difference disappeared. In contrast, the specific binding of insulin to the liver plasma membranes appeared to be lower in the HC group of fish. The lower insulin binding to the liver plasma membranes observed 3–5 h after feeding, could be attributed to the lower quantity of binding sites, while the same phenomenon 18 h after feeding was likely a result of affinity changes. We conclude that higher glycemic levels observed in trout fed a HC diet as compared to LC group of fish, are not a consequence of impaired binding of insulin to its receptors in skeletal muscles.Presented in part at the Annual Meeting of American Society of Zoologists, December 26–30, 1989, Boston, U.S.A. Feeds formulated with 5.7, 11.4 and 22.7% spray-dried blood powder, also called blood flour (88.1% protein, 0.2% total phosphorus), were compared with a control diet with 49% herring meal (64% protein, 2.1% total phosphorus) and no blood powder for rearing juvenile rainbow trout. Oncorhynchus my kiss (Walbaum). Diets with 5.7, 11.4 and 22.7% blood powder contained 1.22,1.03 and 0.84% phosphorus, respectively, compared with 1.36% phosphorus in the control diet. Over 12 weeks, differences in mean specific growth (range 2.23-2.35 day?1) or feed conversion (range 1.04-1.09) among the four diets were not significant (P > 0.05). Apparent digestibility of phosphorus in the diet with 22.7% blood powder was greater (45.2%) than that in the control diet (31.6%). Increases in phosphorus concentrations in the water in which trout were fed diets with blood powder (range 16-20 μg?1 total phosphorus) were 33-47% less (P<0.05) than in tanks where trout were fed the control diet (30μg?1 total phosphorus). Feed formulations for rainbow trout prepared with 22.7% blood powder and 17.0% fish meal would contain 65.3% less fish meal and 38% less total phosphorus than present in the control diet, which was a representation of a modern feed formulation for rainbow trout.  相似文献

在基础饲料中分别添加0.0%(对照组)0.5%1.0%2.0%3.0%的杜仲(Eucommia ulmoides), 饲喂体质量为(7.5±0.2) g的凡纳滨对虾(Litopenaeus vannamei), 实验共分5个处理组, 每处理组4个重复, 每重复40尾虾。经过42 d养殖, 各处理组均有较高的存活率, 且无显著差异(P>0.05); 2.0%杜仲组的虾体增重率最高(136.1%), 饲料系数最低(1.33), 较对照组提高增重率9.8%(P<0.05), 降低饲料系数0.13(P<0.05); 饲料中添加0.5%1.0%杜仲, 显著提高了对虾血清LSZPO活性, 添加1.0%杜仲, 显著降低了血清MDA含量, 提高了肝胰腺蛋白酶活性(P<0.05); 攻毒实验结果表明, 以溶藻弧菌(Vibrio alginolyticus)肌肉注射虾体后96 h, 0.5%1.0%2.0%杜仲组的虾体死亡率均较对照组显著降低(P<0.05); 在肌肉成分方面, 添加2.0%3.0%杜仲显著提高了肌肉胶原蛋白含量, 各处理在肌肉水分、灰分、粗蛋白、粗脂肪含量方面没有显著差异。上述研究表明, 在凡纳滨对虾饲料中添加杜仲2.0%, 可显著改善生产性能, 提高肌肉胶原蛋白含量; 在饲料中添加杜仲0.5%1.0%, 可提高凡纳滨对虾非特异性免疫能力。本研究旨在考察杜仲对凡纳滨对虾生长、血清非特异性免疫和肌肉成分的影响, 为杜仲在对虾饲料中的合理应用提供科学依据。
