1. Males from strains selected for high egg production (and other economic traits) and from unselected control strains were used to determine the frequency of shedding of lymphoid leukosis virus (LLV) into semen. The effect of the male's LLV status on semen production, fertility and hatchability was also examined in males of the unselected control strains. 2. The frequency of detection of exogenous LLV in semen by the phenotypic mixing test, and high concentrations of the viral group specific antigen in feather pulp by the complement fixation test, were both higher in control strains than in strains selected for high egg production. 3. Semen production was not reduced in LLV-shedding males. 4. Significant associations of LLV shedding with higher incidence of abnormal spermatozoa and reduced fertility were found in some populations but not in others. No significant effect of LLV shedding on hatchability was detected. 5. Tests for group specific antigen in feather pulp proved useful in identifying males that shed LLV in semen.  相似文献

The growth hormone receptor (GHR) is the cell surface receptor for growth hormone (GH) and is required for GH to carry out its effects on target tissues. The objectives of the present study were to estimate the allele and genotype frequencies of the GHR/Alu I gene polymorphism located in the regulatory region in beef cattle belonging to different genetic groups and to determine associations between this polymorphism and growth and carcass traits. Genotyping was performed on 384 animals, including 79 Nellore (Zebu), 30 Canchim (5/8 Charolais + 3/8 Zebu), 30 Simmental × Nellore crossbred and 245 Angus × Nellore crossbred cattle. Alleles Alu I(+), Alu I(−) and Alu I(N)null allele–were evidenced for the GHR/Alu I polymorphism and the frequency of the Alu I(N) allele was significantly higher than the frequency of the Alu I(+) and Alu I(−) alleles in all genetic groups. Genotype Alu I(N/N) of the GHR/Alu I predominated in Nellore animals, while the Alu I(N/+) and Alu I(N/−) predominated in the other genetic groups. In the association studies, traits of interest were analyzed using the General Linear Model (GLM) procedure of the SAS program and least squares means of the genotypes were compared by the Tukey test. Significant associations (P < 0.05) were observed between the Alu I(N/N) genotype of the GHR/Alu I polymorphism and lower weight gain and body weight at slaughter, although a confounding between genotypes and genetic groups may have occurred.  相似文献

为选育改良国产高产蛋鸡产蛋中后期蛋品质,确定合理的饲养周期。本研究选取北京市华都峪口禽业有限责任公司13世代Y1、K1品系蛋鸡,测定56、66、72、80周龄蛋重、蛋壳颜色、蛋壳强度、蛋白高度和蛋黄颜色,采用DMU软件估计遗传参数。结果表明:随着蛋鸡周龄增大,Y1、K1系蛋重显著提高(P0.05),蛋壳强度、蛋白高度和蛋黄颜色极显著下降(P0.01);Y1系和K1系56~80周龄各性状遗传力在0.03~0.52;品系内同一性状不同周龄之间高度遗传相关(0.57~0.99),同一周龄不同性状之间遗传相关(-0.39~0.43)和表型相关(-0.049~0.122)均较低。本研究表明高产蛋鸡纯系产蛋后期蛋品质随周龄增加有所下降,同一性状不同周龄之间高度相关,可以通过前期的选育提高后期蛋品质。  相似文献

The aim of the experiment was to examine the efficiency of pedigreed random‐bred control populations. It was argued that it was difficult to achieve this aim by the study of the parameters of a single control population, but that a comparison of the contemporaneous performance of two or more control strains over several generations would be more appropriate.

Six pedigreed randombred control populations with a planned size of 50 males and 150 females and derived from different base populations representing strains involved in a commercial poultry breeding programme were recorded for eight generations. Some difficulty was experienced in maintaining the populations to the size planned, particularly the Wyandotte strain, and this was associated with low semen production from males and low egg production from females rather than from poor fertility or hatchability. Analysis of data on sexual maturity, 25‐week body weight and 300 days’ egg production indicated no obvious regular changes in mean or variance except for sexual maturity for which the within strain variance increased markedly. The differences between strain means stayed relatively constant and there were few changes of rank order. The intra class correlation, corrected for changes in variance, for strains between years was 0–92, 1.00 and 0.96 for sexual maturity, body weight and egg production respectively.

Heritability estimates on four of the base populations indicated large differences between strains but also that additive genetic variation for some traits in some strains was approximately zero. For such traits and strains, genetic drift cannot occur which is a most desirable feature of a genetic control population. Some data were available on crosses of the control strains, which had been recorded for egg production and laying house mortality on many farms in each of eight years. 1. The association of endogenous viral ( ev ) genes with quantitative traits in 2 genetically distinct sets of White Leghorn strains were investigated. Strain S had been selected for susceptibility to Marek's disease (MD) whereas strain K had been selected for resistance to MD and high egg production and egg weight. 2. In all, 8 ev genes were typed. Ev 10, ev 19 and ' newB ' occurred exclusively in strain S, ' newA ' occurred only in strain K, and ev1 , ev3 , ev6 and ev8 occurred in both strains. 3. Whereas ev6 and ev8 were associated with reduction in egg production rate in strain S, in strain K, the presence of ev3 was associated with increased group specific antigen. 4. The genetic background of the chicken strain may play a role in the way certain ev genes affect traits. 5. It was thought that the position of ev genes on the chromosome may be important and their association with traits of economic importance make them potential genetic markers for uncovering quantitative trait loci.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to separate marked additive genetic variability for three quantitative traits in chickens into components associated with classes of minor allele frequency (MAF), individual chromosomes and marker density using the genomewide complex trait analysis (GCTA) approach. Data were from 1351 chickens measured for body weight (BW), ultrasound of breast muscle (BM) and hen house egg production (HHP), each bird with 354 364 SNP genotypes. Estimates of variance components show that SNPs on commercially available genotyping chips marked a large amount of genetic variability for all three traits. The estimated proportion of total variation tagged by all autosomal SNPs was 0.30 (SE 0.04) for BW, 0.33 (SE 0.04) for BM, and 0.19 (SE 0.05) for HHP. We found that a substantial proportion of this variation was explained by low frequency variants (MAF <0.20) for BW and BM, and variants with MAF 0.10–0.30 for HHP. The marked genetic variance explained by each chromosome was linearly related to its length (R2 = 0.60) for BW and BM. However, for HHP, there was no linear relationship between estimates of variance and length of the chromosome (R2 = 0.01). Our results suggest that the contribution of SNPs to marked additive genetic variability is dependent on the allele frequency spectrum. For the sample of birds analysed, it was found that increasing marker density beyond 100K SNPs did not capture additional additive genetic variance.  相似文献

为研究广西德保矮马、百色马和新疆伊犁马的生长激素(GH)基因多态性与体尺指标之间的相关性,本实验利用PCR-SSCP技术分析3个品种277匹马GH基因5′侧翼区、第3外显子、第4外显子、第5外显子的遗传多态性。结果表明:只有GH基因第5外显子出现多态性,表现为AA、BB和AB 3种基因型,其他片段未发现多态性。群体遗传学分析表明,等位基因A和B的基因频率相等;Hardy-Weinberg平衡检验显示,3个品种马均处于非平衡状态;它们的多态信息含量均为中度多态。统计分析表明,GH基因第5外显子的基因型与3个品种马体尺指标之间无显著相关性。  相似文献

日粮中添加3mg/kg 大豆黄酮分别饲喂产蛋初期和产蛋后期绍兴鸭 ,观察其对产蛋性能、血清GH、IGP -1和E2 水平的影响。结果表明 ,产蛋初期添加大豆黄酮显著降低绍兴鸭产蛋率和平均蛋重 ,饲料转化率下降 ,并伴随有血清GH水平显著降低。相反 ,产蛋后期添加大豆黄酮 ,绍兴鸭产蛋率和平均蛋重均显著增加 ,血清GH水平也明显提高。无论在产蛋初期还是后期添加大豆黄酮对血清IGF -1和E2水平均无显著影响。结果表明 ,产蛋初期添加大豆黄酮对绍兴鸭的产蛋性能具有抑制作用 ,而产蛋后期添加大豆黄酮可以促进绍兴鸭的产蛋性能 ,血清生长激素水平的相应变化提示GH可能是大豆黄酮作用途径的一个环节。  相似文献

The heterosis inheritance backcross evaluation technique (HI-BET) is proposed as a selection strategy for developing a pair of complementary strains from a crossbred population descended from a F1 population possessing considerable heterosis. These complementary strains are expected to produce a strain cross superior to the F1 population from which they were derived. In the first stage of an experimental evaluation of HI-BET, Australorp and White Leghorn hens were compared with their F1, F2 and F1 by parental breed backcross populations for a range of egg production traits. The substantial heterosis for survivors' egg production and total egg mass was largely lost in the F2 and backcross populations indicating that this heterosis was mainly due to parental epistasis. The uneven distribution of residual heterosis in the backcross populations suggests that about two-thirds of this parental epistasis was inherited from the White Leghorn line. As the Australorp line was substantially superior to the White Leghorn line for survivors' egg production and total egg mass, it most likely contained additive genes for both these traits that were not present in the White Leghorn line. It is suggested that HI-BET should be an effective strategy for incorporating these additive genes into the White Leghorn line, together with some brown egg shell genes if also desired, as a means of further improving the performance of the F1 cross.  相似文献

The objectives of the research were to determine the presence of the gene sequences for Shiga Toxin 2e (Stx2e), enterotoxins (ST-I, ST-II and LT-I), and F18 fimbriae in 144 Escherichia coli strains isolated from pigs with edema disease; to assess the ability of stx2e(+) strains to produce Stx2e; and to determine the O serogroups of the E. coli strains. Presence of the genes was determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), production of Stx2e was assessed by cytotoxicity for Vero and Hela cells, O serogroups were identified by agglutination with specific antisera. Of the 144 strains tested, 99 were stx2e(+) by PCR, but only 45 of these were Stx2e(+) in the cell culture assays. Among the 99 stx2e(+) strains, PCR detected the genes for F18ab, ST-I, ST-II, LT-I in 76, 40, 31 and 16 strains, respectively. Forty-one of the 99 sxt2e(+) strains belonged to O group 139; the rest did not belong to the classical edema disease O serogroups. It is likely that the enterotoxins, whose genes were detected at high frequency, are responsible for diarrhea seem in pigs with edema disease in Brazil.  相似文献

To evaluate the effect of fipronil spray on adult flea mortality and flea egg production of three different cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis (Bouché) strains, 30 domestic short hair cats were randomly allocated into six groups of five cats each. On day 0, cats in groups 2, 4 and 6 were treated with fipronil at 5-6ml/kg. Cats in groups 1, 3 and 5 served as untreated controls. On days -2, 7, 14, 21, and 28 each cat was infested with 50 adult cat fleas. Groups 1 and 2 were infested with fleas from the Kansas1 Colony (KS1) strain. Groups 3 and 4 were infested with a recently colonized cat flea strain from Florida (R6). Groups 5 and 6 were infested with fleas from the ARC strain. The adulticidal activity of fipronil was determined by flea comb counts 48h after treatment and then 48h after each reinfestation. Any flea eggs produced during the infestations were collected and counted prior to the 48h comb counts. Fipronil spray was > or = 99.5% effective against adults of all three cat flea strains when applied during an active infestation. Fipronil spray provided > or = 98.2 and > or = 99.5% control of adult fleas and egg production, respectively, for all strains through week 2. On days 23 and 30 control of R6 adults and egg production was significantly lower than either the ARC or the KS1 strain. On day 30, control of R6 adults and egg production was 77.3 and 87.3%, respectively. Control of KS1 adults and egg production on day 30 was significantly lower than the ARC strain. Fipronil provided > or = 99.5 and > or = 99.9% control of ARC fleas and egg production, respectively, throughout the entire study. The susceptibility to fipronil for the three strains was also evaluated on filter paper pesticide bioassays. The R6 strain was found to be less susceptible than the KS1 and ARC strains. The LC(95) estimates for the strains were 10.13, 4.77 and 2.62mg/m(2) for the R6, ARC and KS1 strains, respectively.  相似文献

1. The main purpose of this study was to estimate genetic correlations between yolk proportion, chick weight and production traits using an animal model. 2. Direct-direct genetic correlations were estimated between yolk proportion and age at first egg (-0.34), body weight at 20 (0.10), 40 (0.58) and 60 (0.52) weeks of age, egg number (0.56), egg mass (0.59), feed intake (0.64) and feed conversion (-0.25). 3. Maternal-direct genetic correlations were estimated between chick weight and age at first egg (0.40), body weight at 20 (0.57), 40 (0.66) and 60 (0.56) weeks of age, egg number (-0.50), egg mass (0.21), feed intake (0.45) and feed conversion (0.17), respectively. 4. In conclusion, the results suggest that selection on a higher yolk proportion would not have any unfavourable effects on egg production. Maternal-direct genetic correlations between chick weight and production traits resembled direct-direct genetic correlations between egg weight and production traits found in other studies.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to identify and characterize polymorphisms within the 5′ flanking region, first exon and part of first intron of the bovine growth hormone gene among different beef cattle breeds: Nelore (n = 25), Simmental (n = 39), Simbrasil (n = 24), Simmental × Nelore (n = 30), Canchim × Nelore (n = 30) and Angus × Nelore (n = 30). Two DNA fragments (GH1, 464 bp and GH2, 453 bp) were amplified by polymerase chain reaction and then used for polymorphism identification by SSCP. Within the GH1 fragment, five polymorphisms were identified, corresponding to three different alleles: GH1.1, GH1.2 and GH1.3 (GenBank: AY662648 , AY662649 and AY662650 , respectively). These allele sequences were aligned and compared with bovine GH gene nucleotide sequence (GenBank: M57764 and AF118837 ), resulting in the identification of five insertion/deletions (INDELs) and five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). In the GH2 fragment two alleles were identified, GH2.1 and GH2.2 (GenBank: AY662651 and AY662652 , respectively). The allele sequences were compared with GenBank sequences ( M57764 , AF007750 and AH009106 ) and three INDELs and four SNPs were identified. In conclusion, we were able to identify six new polymorphisms of the bovine GH gene (one INDEL and five SNPs), which can be used as molecular markers in genetic studies.  相似文献

Three strains of commercial leghorns vaccinated at 17 to 22 weeks of age with F strain Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) were maintained through 117 weeks of age. The three strains differed in both mortality and percent egg production per hen housed; however, the strains did not differ in egg weight (EW), eggshell strength (ESS), or percent daily egg production. Results of this study indicate EW and ESS for F strain MG-vaccinated hens follow patterns previously reported for uninfected layers. Further, mortality may account, in part, for differences in percent egg production per hen housed between strains of F strain MG-vaccinated hens.  相似文献

Native chicken breeding station of Mazandaran was established in 1988 with two main objectives: genetic improvement through selection programs and dissemination of indigenous Mazandarani birds. (Co)variance components and genetic parameters for economically important traits were estimated using (bi) univariate animal models with ASREML procedure in Mazandarani native chicken. The data were from 18 generations of selection (1988?C2009). Heritability estimates for body weight at different ages [at hatch (bw1), 8 (bw8), 12 (bw12) weeks of ages and sex maturation (wsm)] ranged from 0.24?±?0.00 to 0.47?±?0.01. Heritability for reproductive traits including age at sex maturation (asm); egg number (en); weight of first egg (ew1); average egg weight at 28 (ew28), 30 (ew30), and 32 (ew32) weeks of age; their averages (av); average egg weight for the first 12?weeks of production (ew12); egg mass (em); and egg intensity (eint) varied from 0.16?±?0.01 to 0.43?±?0.01. Generally, the magnitudes of heritability for the investigated traits were moderate. However, egg production traits showed smaller heritability compared with growth traits. Genetic correlations among egg weight at different ages were mostly higher than 0.8. On the one hand, body weight at different ages showed positive and relatively moderate genetic correlations with egg weight traits (ew1, ew28, ew30, ew32, ew12, and av) and varied from 0.30?±?0.03 to 0.59?±?0.02. On the other hand, low negative genetic correlations were obtained between body weight traits (bw1, bw8, bw12, and wsm) and egg number (en). Also, there is low negative genetic correlation (?24?±?0.04 to ?29?±?0.05) between egg number and egg weight. Therefore, during simultaneous selection process for both growth and egg production traits, probable reduction in egg production due to low reduction in egg number may be compensated by increases in egg weight.  相似文献

Marked changes have occurred in poultry production practices and in stocks bred for the production of meat and eggs. Of behavior pattern that originally favoured domestication, positive responses to humans and adaptability to environments are now most important. Development of specific strains for production of meat or eggs resulted in correlated responses in behavioural traits. Compared with egg strains, meat strains are docile and have excessive appetites, poor immunoresponsiveness and reduced motor ability. Genotype by environment interactions for behaviour limit inferences concerning responses of stocks across environments. Innate behaviour patterns and habituation processes can prevent some stimuli from causing physiological manifestations observed in general responses to stressors. Husbandry procedures should optimise phenotypic expressions of genetic potential to enhance well-being.  相似文献

Six strains under long-term selection for egg production and other economically-important traits were crossed in a full diallel, and tested with two commercial stocks and two control strains at two stocking rates (1 bird per 20.3-cm cage and 3 birds per 30.5-cm cage) and two diets (with and without an oyster shell supplement). The mean of the 30 strain crosses exceeded the mean of the six selected strains for egg production and egg quality traits, sexual maturity and viability, which in turn exceeded the performance of both of the control strains. The performance of several of the 30 strain crosses was similar to the commercial stocks. The only significant genotype X environment interaction was for Haugh units at 450 d. Performance at the lower stocking rate was generally superior to that at the higher stocking rate. General combining ability was important for the complete array of traits measured. Specific combining ability was important for the majority of traits. Heterosis was important for all traits except specific gravity, Haugh units, blood spots and laying house viability to 272 or 496 d at the higher stocking rate. The magnitude of heterotic effects was generally greater at the higher stocking rate. Reciprocal effects were important for egg production traits, sexual maturity, egg quality traits and viability. The dietary oyster shell supplement resulted in an improvement in shell quality as measured by specific gravity.  相似文献

中国地方鸡种资源丰富,风味较优,但存在生长速度慢、饲料效率低等缺点,因此为了加速我国地方鸡种和肉鸡品种的遗传改良,分子标记技术得到了广泛应用。已知SH3RF2基因的插入/缺失突变与肉鸡生长和体重密切相关,因此本试验对分布在我国各地的15个地方鸡品种进行了SH3RF2基因的等位基因频率检测,以确定SH3RF2基因在我国地方鸡种中的等位基因分布情况,继而将SH3RF2基因用于鸡生长性状的选择的分子育种标记。研究结果发现所检测地方鸡种和肉鸡品种均是非缺失的纯合子,没有发现缺失的等位基因。要利用SH3RF2基因对中国地方鸡种进行选择,可能需要通过杂交等手段将缺失型等位基因导入我国地方鸡种的群体之中。  相似文献
