Summary The potential for breeding for high groat-oil content in oats was investigated by (a) conducting generation means analyses on data from three matings among adapted Avena sativa L. cultivars, (b) practicing one cycle of phenotypic recurrent selection in a segregating population derived from eight species backcrosses (Avena sativa x (A. sativa x A. sterilis)) among 24 parents, and (c) identifying transgressive segregates from interspecific (A. sativa x A. sterilis) matings.Additive gene action was the most important component in explaining the variation among generation means for groat-oil content. Dominance and epistatic interactions involving dominance were not significant in any mating. Significant residual genetic variation occurred in one mating, even after additive, dominance, and three digenic interactions were fitted. The importance of additive genes action implies that desired allelic combinations for high groat-oil content can be obtained in pure-line cultivars.One cycle of phenotypic recurrent selection using single plants as the selection units resulted in a genetic gain of 1.7 to 2.1% in groat-oil content. Individual plants selected for initiating the second cycle had from 9.5 to 12.6% groat oil.Over all 12 interspecific matings, the F2 progeny means were similar to the midparent values. Only two were significantly deviant. Transgressive segregates for high and low groat-oil content from these matings provided evidence that A. sterilis possesses alleles for high and low groat-oil content that are different from those in the gene pool of cultivated oats.Journal Paper No. J-11340 of the Iowa Agric. and Home ECon. Summary A spontaneously occurring male sterile condition was located in an inbred line Vg 272 of Pennisetum americanum. Male sterility was inherited as a monogenic recessive condition and showed independent assortment with hairy leaf surface phenotype. Transfer of male sterile allele to inbreds Vg 212 and IP 482 revealed no cytoplasmic effects on the expression of male sterility. Stigmas of the male sterile plants were found to possess the same amount of receptivity upto three days with normal seed set, upto six days with reduced seed set and almost with nil receptivity on the seventh day.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of the seed coat colours violet, spotted, brown, green, red, black and beige was investigated in a 10×10 diallel cross between broad bean (Vicia faba L. major) lines. Spotted seed colour was dominant over any uniform seed coat colouring. Brown was dominant over black, green and normal (beige colour). Black and red seed parents behaved as recessive in all F1 progenies. A 3 (coloured): 1 (normal) segregation ratio was observed in the F2 of crosses of violet, brown, black, red and spotted seed coat parents to nornal seed coloured parents. Green x beige gave a segregation ratio of 9:7 in F2. When two parents with different seed coat colour were involved in a cross, the F2 showed a typical digenic segregation ratio thus demonstrating two unlinked and sometimes epistatic loci.Segregation of a multiallelic series at two loci explains all segregation ratios observed for seed coat colour in broad bean.  相似文献

Summary Possible unfavourable influence of sterility inducing cytoplasm on physico-chemical grain quality traits in rice hybrids is one of the important concerns hindering the large-scale adoption of hybrid rice technology. Produce from 23 pairs of CMS line × restorer (AF1) and maintainer line × restorer (BF1) cross combinations carrying different cyto-sterile sources (WA, ARC, Mutagenized IR 62829B and Kalinga I) was compared for various grain and cooking quality traits. The milling recovery in rice hybrids was not influenced by the sterile cytoplasm. For kernel dimensions before and after cooking there were both favourable and unfavourable cytoplasmic effects, which varied in magnitude depending upon the sterile cytoplasm and parental combinations. Similar results were obtained for kernel elongation and gelatinization temperature. The most widely used WA cytoplasm had minimum instances of unfavourable influence. In general, the cytoplasmic influence was found to be highly cross-specific and depended on the nuclear background of CMS line and fertility restorer. Availability of alloplasmic CMS lines carrying different cyto-sterile sources in the same nuclear background would help in ascertaining the cytoplasmic influence in a more comprehensive manner.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of seed weight in cowpea was examined in a field planting of the parents, reciprocal F1s, F2s and backcrosses to both parents of a cross between TVu 1977-OD (small seeded) and ACC 70002 (large).Seed weight was inherited quantitatively and small seed was partially domiminant to large seed size. Gene action was predominantly additive but dominance and additive × additive epistatic effects were also significant.Broad and narrow sense heritabilities were 85.1±5.3% and 75.4±18.6% respectively. The minimum number of loci involved in the inheritance of seed size was eight, and each gene pair contributed up to 1.02 g increase to seed weight. Summary OSU 5062, a green bean line with a tendency for pods to become creasebacked (wider than deep) in cross-section, was crossed to near-round-podded cultivars Oregon 83 and Slenderette, oval-podded Bountiful, and flat-podded Roma, to further clarify the inheritance of pod cross-section. Differences among generations in pod cross-section index (PCS), calculated as pod width/depth, were small in the near-round x creaseback crosses (1.07 and 1.01 for Oregon 83 and Slenderette versus 1.20 for OSU 5062). Bountiful (0.63) and Roma (0.50) differed to a greater extent from 5062. Generation means of individual plant PCS of the F1 and F2 were almost identical, were almost exactly intermediate between parents, and strongly supported additive inheritance. Backcross data generally supported additive inheritance, but in some cases indicated degrees of dominance of higher PCS. A generation means analysis indicated additive gene action, but deviations from an additive-dominance model were significant in each cross.  相似文献

Summary In order to investigate the inheritance of flower colour in tulips, seven cultivars were crossed and selfed in a diallel. Of these parents and their F1's the relative amounts of carotenoids, delphinidin, cyanidin, pelargonidin, quercetin and kaempferol were determined.For delphinidin, quercetin and daempferol only additive gene action was determined, and for carotenoids, cyanidin and pelargonidin also non-additive gene action and plasmic differences.Biosynthesis of delphinidin and pelargonidin was only found when cyanidin was present, while synthesis of delphinidin and pelargonidin was antagonistic.  相似文献

Summary Eight oat cultivars and experimental lines from four germplasm sources were crossed in a diallel mating design without reciprocals. F1 heterosis for grain yield was evaluated in two experiments, and 48 F2-derived lines from each of the 28 matings were evaluated for bundle weight, grain yield, straw yield, harvest index, height, and heading date in two experiments. Number of transgressive segregates per trait and generalized genetic variance were calculated for each mating. Genealogical distance for each mating was obtained by using coefficient of kinship based on the pedigree of the parents. The relationship between genealogical distance and the three types of breeding behaviour was examined via correlation and regression. Significant correlations occurred only for genealogical distance with numbers of transgressive segregates for height and with generalized genetic variances. Both were positive. Significant heterosis was observed for matings of more distantly related parents. Regressions on genealogical distance, when significant, were linear. On a brown warp soil (Fluventic Eutrochrept) near Goettingen, Germany, conventional leafed pea ( Pisum sativum L. cvs Messire and Bohatyr) and semileafless types (cvs Profi, Juno and Azur) were grown in mixed stands together with oat ( Avena sativa cvs Alf and Lutz) in substitutively designed experiments from 1995 to 1997. Oat was the dominant component. Crowding coefficients for oat averaged 7.4. No relationship could be detected between the crowding coefficient of oat and any yield advantage from the mixture. Crowding coefficients for pea varied substantially, between 0.1002 (Juno and Alf in 1996) and 0.2979 (Bohatyr and Alf in 1996). Crowding coefficients for semileafless pea cultivars were smaller than for conventional leafed types. The yield advantage of the mixture increased as the crowding coefficient of pea increased. The maximum yield increase for the mixture was achieved when the relative yield total (RYT)=1.17 or + 11 dt grain DM ha–1 for mixtures of the long-strawed conventional leafed cultivars Bohatyr and Alf (in 1996). The crowding coefficients of pea were positively correlated with the level of symbiotically fixed N2 in the mixed stands. When N2 fixation with mixed cropping was about 30 kg N ha–1, RYT was unity. Increasing symbiotic N2 in the mixtures resulted in increasing yield advantages in the mixture. Short-strawed pea cultivars seem unsuitable for mixing with oat. Plant height of pea appeared to be more important than plant leaf type. Accordingly, mixtures containing the long-strawed semileafless pea cultivars Profi and Alf were more successful. It is concluded that increased competitiveness of the pea component in the mixture with oat entails increasing the level of symbiotic N2 fixation including resource complementarity and thus yield advantage in the mixed stands.  相似文献

Summary Angular leaf spot (Isariopsis griseola Sacc.) is a serious disease of French bean in the hills of India and 40 to 70 per cent of the green pods are damaged and rendered unmarketable. Crosses were made between PLB 257, (Phaseolus coccineus L.), a red flowering pole tope, resistant to angular leaf spot, and Contender (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), a highly susceptible commercial cultivar. Studies of the F1, F2, and F3 progenies indicated that PLB 257, carries a recessive gene imparting resistance to angular leaf spot.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of purple seedling colour was studied, in relation to the genetic control of flower colour. It was found that purple seedling colour is likely to be controlled by a single gene and that the trait is dominant over green seedling colour. White flowering prohibited the expression of the purple seedling colour, and is therefore thought to be epistatic.This character can be used to estimate rate of outcrossing in breeding programmes, as well as contribute to our knowledge of the biosynthesis of plant pigments and secondary metabolites such as tannins.  相似文献

1978年以来,作者坚持了以超黄早4为主要目标的早熟粒型玉米自交系选育研究,取得的主要成果为H21。用H21取代烟单14号,鲁玉2号,掖单4号等组合的黄早4亲本,均比原组合表现优越,取代西玉3号中的“502”亲本,F1产量也有所提高,H21选育成功的关键,一是选用中国和美国玉米品种资源来组配优缺点互补的基本材料;二是紧扣育种目标,加大选择压力,采用骨干系测交,迅速育成了超标的新杂交种。  相似文献

Summary Electrophoretic variants of peroxidase in mulberry (Morus spp.) were demonstrated by thin-layer gel isoelectric focusing. Of these variants, three isozyme band groups were found to be controlled by codominant alleles at a single locus. The gene symbol Px 1 was given to this locus, with alleles Px 1 1 and Px 1 2 assigned to the A6-A7-A8 and A7-A8-A9 band groups, respectively. The A6-A7-A8-A9 band group proved to be controlled by the Px 1 1 and Px 1 2 heterozygote.Additional experiments showed that among the three banding types, there were no statistically significant differences in leaf blade length, leaf blade width, length-width ratio of leaf blade, internode length, phyllotaxis, leaf shape, tree vigor and resistance to powdery mildew, but there were significant differences in leafstalk length.  相似文献

Summary Fertility restoration in the cross between a cytoplasmic male sterile line, 2 cm 183, and the restorer line, BCZ 111, (both obtained from France) was dominant in F1 and segregated in a 9:7 ratio in the F2 generation and thus suggested the action of two independent, complementary dominant genes controlling restoration. The behaviour of F3 families broadly confirmed the F2 ratio. The reasons underlying this pattern of inheritance has been discussed and the genetic symbols rf 1 rf 1 rf2 rf2and Rf 1 Rf 1 Rf 2 Rf 2 have been suggested for the male sterile and the restorer parents respectively.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of raw cucumber fruit texture (Magness-Taylor Fruit Pressure Tester firmness) was investigated over a 4-year period from 1971–1974. Results from 2 separate but related experiments suggested that firmness was quantitatively inherited with sufficient additive effects to permit gain from selection. In a selection study within 4 F2 populations derived from crosses between firm (Chipper and Gy3) and soft (Mincu and Green F) fruit type cultivars, variation among and within F3 and F4 families was significant but overall family means were not significantly higher than the high parent in any of the 4 crosses. Narrow sense heritability estimates for fruit texture were 0.80 in the Mincu × Chipper population and 0.77 in the Green F × Chipper, Mincu × Gy3, and Gy3 × Green F crosses. In a separate experiment, generation means analysis was used to assess the mode of gene action in 2 crosses: Green F × Chipper, and Gy3 × Green F. Summary Inheritance studies on the stem termination in pigeon pea using F1, F2 and F3 generations of two crosses between determinate and indeterminate lines suggested that two dominant genes with epistatic (inhibitory) interaction of one of them control the interminate growth habit. The gene symbols D. idid and ddIdId have been designated to the parental plants with determinate and indeterminate growth habits, respectively. The gene IdId was epistatic (inhibitory) to the gene D giving a ratio of 13 indeterminate: 3 determinate inthe F2's observed. 利用蛋白质含量及产量各不相同3个春小麦品种.研究了源库改变对淀粉、蛋白质沉术;及单侏产量的影响.结果表明:源库改变明显地影响着籽粒蛋白质的含量,而对淀粉、可溶性糖含量影响不大;品种间蛋白质含量对源库变化的反应不同;千粒重的增减也因品种而异;淀粉的沉积主要受库的限制,而源库都影响着蛋白含量;旗叶在产量和蛋白形成中起着同样重要作用。  相似文献

Summary The genetics of flower colours violet, blue, deep pink, pink, light pink, creamy white and white was investigated in 17 cross combinations involving 10 parents in China aster (Callistephus chinensis (L.) Nees). Violet was dominant over all other colours; blue was dominant over creamy white; deep pink was dominant over pink and white, but incompletely dominant over light pink and pink was dominant over light pink and white. Four genes C, R, B and P were found to govern these different flower colours.
