Summary A 6×6 diallel was prepared to study the inheritance of leaf angle in T. aestivum L. Genetic analysis in terms of diallel cross parameters and graphic analysis indicated the control of additive gene effects in the expression of this character. The results of F1 analysis were supported by the analysis of F2 data.  相似文献

Summary Genotypes of Phaseolus vulgaris differ in their level of resistance to Empoasca kraemeri, but the speed with which these differences can be accumulated into a resistant variety will depend on whether they can be detected in single F2 plants, and on whether the genetic control of resistance is additive. Thirty-eight homozygous genotypes were therefore grown in small plots with and without insecticidal protection, and also in simulated F2 populations containing one plant of each genotype. In addition, the F2 and F3 generations of crosses were studied. Both generations of a 13 parent diallel were grown with and without insecticidal protection. Six crosses, involving some of the parents in the diallel and two additional genotypes, were studied in more detail. Protected and unprotected F2 plants from these crosses were harvested individually, and the resulting F3 families were grown with and without protection. In all the expriments, the level of damage to the unprotected plants and the vigour of the protected plants was assessed visually by means of a numerical score, and the seed yield was measured. The performance of a single homozygous plant was a reasonable predictor of the performance of the same genotype in a small plot, but in the six crosses studies in detail, the correlations between F2 and F3 performance were low. In the analysis of the diallel cross, the significant differences among crosses were due to specific combining ability and not general combining ability. These results indicate that the genetic control of resistance is largely non-additive, and that F2 selection will probably be ineffective. However, F3 selection should be effective, and transgressive segregants for resistance should be obtainable. In some of the six crosses, the F3 families differed both in general vigour and in narrow-sense resistance to E. kraemeri, as defined by Galwey & Evans (1982). The visual assessment of damage symptoms in each plot was related to the subsequent seed yield of the plot, but was more heritable than yield. The relationship between these two variables was investigated by the genetic correlation coefficient and by an alternative method, and was found to be partly genetically determined, but partly due to the influence of environmental factors on both variables. This indicates that screening for E. kraemeri resistance should be done by means of a visual damage score in a carefully chosen, uniform environment.  相似文献

Inbreeding caused a marked reduction in the yield of marrow-stem kale. The depression in leaf yield was due to reduction in leaf size rather than in number of leaves per plant.Yield was restored on hybridization, and a diallel cross analysis of the F1 data showed that a different genetic mechanism was operative in controlling these two components of leaf yield. It was demonstrated that effective selection for stem length and number of leaves in F1 plants can be carried out among the inbred parents.  相似文献

The behaviour of 19 varieties of spring wheat under different environmental conditions is discussed in terms of the following five characters: weight per grain, grains per spikelet, spikelets per ear, ears per plant and yield of grain per plant. The first four of these characters (the components of yield) are shown by correlation analyses to be largely independent of each other.Four varieties, chosen because they each showed extreme values of one or more of the components of yield, were crossed in all possible combinations. The F1 and F2 of this diallel set of crosses was analysed for each character according to the method of Jinks and Hayman. The results are discussed in relation to crop improvement and predictions are made for each character as to which cross or crosses are likely to be the most profitable for the breeder. The future handling of this material in order to test these predictions is outlined.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of submergence tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) was investigated in an 8×8 diallel cross. Duration to 50% mortality of the diallel populations (F1's + parents) under completely submerged conditions at the seedling stage was used to characterize submergence tolerance instead of the usual submergence survival percentages.A strong prepotency of parents was found in transmitting the character to their offspring. Additive and nonadditive gene effects were highly significant. Parents highly tolerant to submergence also had high gca effects, and F1's between two tolerant parents were found to be the most tolerant of the diallel combinations. A high narrow-sense heritability was also observed. The additive-dominance model was found valid for this diallel cross. Submergence tolerance was partially dominant over susceptibility and recessive alleles were more concentrated in the susceptible parents IR42 and IR11288-B-B-69-1.  相似文献

Summary Wheat root characters which influence vital plant processes have scarcely been explored for their genetic control. This study was conducted to i) examine the diversity of root traits and associated shoot traits in spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars; ii) study the nature of genetic control of selected traits; and iii) examine associations among root and shoot traits. Three experiments were conducted in the greenhouse with plants grown in the vermiculite medium in clear plastic tubes. In the first experiment, 42 spring wheat cultivars were grown for three weeks and measurements were taken on root length, leaf length, root number, leaf number, root dry weight, and top dry weight. In the second study, 15F1's originating from a partial diallel mating of six cultivars along with the parents were evaluated for 4 weeks. The data on root length, leaf length, and root number were subjected to diallel analysis according to Griffing's method 4, fixed model. A third experiment consisted of studying 2 F2 populations with 141 plants per population. In the first study the 42 cultivars exhibited a wide range of variation for all six traits. Diallel analysis revealed significant effects of both general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) for root length, leaf length, and root number. Parents with high GCA estimates were identified. Significant positive correlation coefficients were found among root and shoot traits. Analysis of F2's for root length indicated quantitative nature of inheritance of root length.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of resistance to white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera Horvath, was investigated in a rice, Oryza sativa L., cultivar N22. Resistance to the white-backed planthopper in the cross IR30×N22 appears to be governed by a single dominant gene-designated Wbph. The classification for various characteristics of 397 F3 families of the IR30×N22 cross confirmed earlier results about the monogenic dominant control of resistance to brown planthopper, green leafhopper, and bacterial leaf blight, and about the monogenic recessive control of short stature. Additionally, the genes governing plant height and resistance to white-backed planthopper, brown planthopper, green leafhopper, and bacterial leaf blight were found to segregate independently of each other in these 397 F3 families.  相似文献

Summary The production, vigour, and fertility of F1 hybrids between nine African species of the genus Cucumis L. were studied as a measure of the relationships between the species. Hybrid plants were obtained from 29 out of the 72 possible cross combinations. Two F1 hybrids died as seedlings, and 27 hybrids were raised to maturity. Pollen production and stainability varied greatly amongst these hybrids, as did fruit and seed set following self pollination and backcrossing with either parental species. The fruit shape of the hybrids was always intermediate between that of both parental species. Two species appeared to be closely related: C. prophetarum L. and C. anguria var. longipes A. Meeuse. Most other species produced highly to moderately fertile F1 hybrids with at least one other species. C. metuliferus Naud. produced only sterile hybrids with C. zeyheri Sond. 2x. The results sustain the recent taxonomic classification of the genus (Jeffrey, 1980).  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of resistance to tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV) was studied in the progenies derived from interspecific crosses between TLCV resistant Lycopersicon hirsutum f. glabratum line B 6013 and five susceptible cultivars (HS 101, HS 102, HS 110, Pusa Ruby and Punjab Chhuhara) of L. esculentum. P1, P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2 progenies of the five crosses were artificially inoculated with local strains of TLCV by means of the vector whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.). and the disease reaction was studied in all the crosses. Reaction of parents, F1, F2 and backcrosses suggests that resistance derived from L. hirsutum f. glabratum B 6013 is based on two epistatic genes, one from the wild parent and one from the cultivated one, resulting in a 13:3 segragation in the F2.  相似文献

Summary In studies of the inheritance of resistance, pea seedlings of seven lines in which stems and leaves were both resistant to Mycosphaerella pinodes were crossed with a line in which they were both susceptible. With seven of the crosses resistance was dominant to susceptibility. When F2 progenies of five crosses were inoculated on either stems or leaves independently, phenotypes segregated in a ratio of 3 resistant: 1 susceptible indicating that a single dominant gene controlled resistance. F2 progenies of one other cross gave ratios with a better fit to 9 resistant: 7 susceptible indicating that two co-dominant genes controlled resistance. The F2 progeny of another cross segregated in complex ratios indicating multigene resistance. When resistant lines JI 97 and JI 1089 were crossed with a susceptible line and leaves and stems of each F2 plant were inoculated, resistance phenotypes segregated independently demonstrating that leaf and stem resistance were controlled by different genes. In two experiments where the F2 progeny of the cross JI 97×JI 1089 were tested for stem and leaf resistance separately, both characters segregated in a ratio of 15 resistant:1 susceptible indicating that these two resistant lines contain two non-allelic genes for stem resistance (designated Rmp1 and Rmp2) and two for leaf resistance (designated Rmp3 and Rmp4). Evidence that the gene for leaf resistance in JI 1089 is located in linkage group 4 of Pisum sativum is presented.  相似文献

High performing V. faba genotypes have been successfully selected using an approach that combines the univariate and multivariate biometrical analyses of F|S from two complete 7×7 and 9×9 diallel cross experiments. The method used in the analyses included canonical analysis and cluster analysis of the phenotypic and genetic variance-covariance matrices. All analyses have been applied, to the yield and yield components. Results of analyses provided information on the unit of selection, the selection criteria, and the selection procedure. The choice of an array of F1S seems to be more efficient than the choice of a single F2. Among the yield components studied, 100-seed weight is the most important selection criterion which can improve yield most efficiently. The detected importance of the nonadditive genetic effects is that selection after intercrossing random plants from the mixed F1 progenies of the same array is expected to be more effective than selection after Selfing.  相似文献

Summary Angular leaf spot (Isariopsis griseola Sacc.) is a serious disease of French bean in the hills of India and 40 to 70 per cent of the green pods are damaged and rendered unmarketable. Crosses were made between PLB 257, (Phaseolus coccineus L.), a red flowering pole tope, resistant to angular leaf spot, and Contender (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), a highly susceptible commercial cultivar. Studies of the F1, F2, and F3 progenies indicated that PLB 257, carries a recessive gene imparting resistance to angular leaf spot.  相似文献

Summary Two blue-mold resistant cultivars of Nicotiana tabacum L. were crossed with each other and with the susceptible Israeli local cultivar Mikhal. F1, F2 and F3 progenies of these crosses, F1 and F2 of backcrosses and the parental varieties were grown in a series of experiments, in which the seedlings were exposed to heavy natural infection with Peronospora tabacina Adam. The genetic basis of resistance was found to be identical in the two resistant strains Bel-61-10 and Chemical mutant. A single dominant major gene determined the segregation of resistance versus susceptibility in the crosses of these strains with Mikhal. The level of resistance of resistant segregates was shifted by environment and by quantitatively modifying genes. The index of resistance, which was calculated as a weighted mean of the degree of blue-mold expression of the resistant segregates, differed in the generations of cross progeny. This could be explained by the different expected levels of the modifying genes in these generations. Heritability of the index of resistance was calculated by parent-offspring regression and it was found to be 0.542 in the F3 and 0.227 in F2 backcross progenies.  相似文献

Summary Plants derived by bud selfing maternals, obtained after pollinating B. oleracea L. with B. campestris L., have been shown to be segregating for their S alleles and in one instance for a major gene determining the presence of hairs on the first true foliage leaf. This agrees with the evidence of Tokumasu (1965) and Haruta (1970, person. comm.) in demonstrating that the original maternals were not completely homozygous. The evidence would appear to favour diploid parthenogenesis as the mode of origin of these maternals and the induction of maternals by interspecific pollinations within the Brassica genus does not appear to offer a viable alternative to inbreeding for the synthesis of pure lines for F1 or double cross hybrid production.  相似文献

F1, F2, and backcross progenies derived from an interspecific cross between Cucurbita lundelliana and C. maxima were analyzed by using the hybrid index method of Anderson. The results suggest that C. lundelliana is dominant for most characters. There is a good deal of sterility, particularly in the backcross to C. maxima. It appears feasible, however, to transfer such characters as powdery mildew resistance, perennial habit, solid placenta, etc. from C. lundelliana to C. maxima by conventional plant-breeding techniques. The mean pollen fertility for the F1, F2 and backcross to C. lundelliana was respectively 17.6%, 28.4% and 5.2%: for the backcross to C. maxima. 65.9%.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of time-to-flowering, plant height, tiller number, spikelet number and flag leaf area was studied under day lengths of 10 and 14 hours in a diallel cross of six rice varieties. Early flowering was dominant to late in both environments but the varieties flowering early in one environment were late flowering in the other. Analysis of F1 and F2 data from the cross of Heenati-310 x IR-8 suggested a digenic control of early flowering in short days with complementary interaction. It is considered that while relatively few genes control time-to-flowering in rice a previous proposal that separate genes for time-to-flowering and photoperiod sensitivity exist is unnecessary on present evidence. Whereas culm length, tiller number and flag leaf area were increased by longer days, the number of spikelets per panicle was reduced. The length of the panicle was little affected by changing environment, and throughout certain characters and varieties, such as tiller number in I-geo-tze, were more stable than others. Varietal crosses of Heenati-310 x IR-8 and Tainan x MI-273(m) appeared to give high yield potential.  相似文献

Summary Gene action and heritability of groat protein percentage were determined in F1, F2, and F3 generations of nine crosses between three Avena sativa L. cultivars and three A. fatua L. selections. Relationships among groat protein percentage, grain yield, and 100-seed weight also were evaluated. The three A. sativa parents were Dal (high grain yield and intermediate groat protein percentage), Goodland (low grain yield and high groat protein percentage), and Stout (high grain yield and low groat protein percentage). The three A. fatua parents were chosen for the study on the basis of vigorous plant growth and high groat protein percentage. The study was conducted at Madison, Wisconsin in 1979 and 1980.There was partial dominance towards low groat protein percentage. Narrow sense heritability estimates for groat protein percentage were low in Dal and Goodland crosses and intermediate in Stout crosses. In the F2 generation, groat protein percentage was significantly higher in shattering than in nonshattering plants in 1979, but not in 1980. There were significant, positive correlations between groat protein percentage, 100-seed weight, and grain yield in F1 and F2 generations, but they were not large numerically. Relationships among these traits were either negative or nonsignificant in the F3 generation. Although our results indicated that selection for higher groat protein percentage is possible when a low protein A. sativa cultivar is used, most of our simple cross progenies from A. sativa x A. fatua crosses had weak straw and were susceptible to crown rust (Puccinia coronata Cda. var. avenae Fraser and Led.).  相似文献

Summary The origin and nature of the diploid cultivated potato species S. ajanhuiri Juz. et Buk. was studied. Several lines of evidence indicate that S. ajanhuiri might be derived from natural crosses between primitive cultivars of the diploid species S. stenotomum and the wild species S. megistacrolobum. Morphological comparisons were made between S. stenotomum x S. megistacrolobum F1 hybrids and naturally occurring S. ajanhuiri to investigate this hypothesis. Comparisons were also made between S. ajanhuiri x S. stenotomum crosses and the F2 generation of the first-mentioned cross.Crosses between the two major groups of S. ajanhuiri cultivars, Ajawiri and Yari, showed not only genetic breakdown but also a wide range of phenotypic variation similar to those of artificial F2 families of S. stenotomum x S. megistacrolobum. Furthermore, there was strong evidence showing that the Yari group of S. ajanhuiri could almost certainly be an F1 S. stenotomum x S. megistacrolobum hybrid, whereas the Ajawiri group could be a backcross of an F1 hybrid to S. stenotomum. These results added further support to the hypothesis of a hybrid origin of S. ajanhuiri, as well as indicating its putative parents. It is suggested that this hybridogenic taxon be retained at the species level under the name Solanum x ajanhuiri.  相似文献

Improving the host genotype is one method of increasing biological nitrogen fixation by Bradyrhizobium in symbiosis with peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), but host-strain interactions also must be considered. The objective of this study was to estimate the effect of Bradyrhizobium strains on the inheritance of traits related to nitrogen fixation. Eight parents and the F1 generation of a diallel cross were evaluated in symbiosis with two bacterial strains for combining ability in a factorial arrangement in the greenhouse. The parents represented three taxa of cultivated peanuts. The two Bradyrhizobium strains NC 92 and NC 123 produced different general and specific combining ability, maternal (reciprocal general) effects, and reciprocal specific effects for the host genotypes. With strain NC 92, the peanut cultivars NC 7 and NC Ac 2821 had the best general combining ability for all traits evaluated; while, with strain NC 123, Robut 33-1 exhibited a high general combining ability (GCA) for nitrogenase activity and specific activity. Genotype NC Ac 2821, when inoculated with strain NC 123, had a negative GCA effect for nodule number, while with strain NC 92 this cultivar had the highest GCA effect. The importance of strain selection in evaluating lines in a breeding program is discussed.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of the character complex of naked grain and multiflorous spikelets was studied in a diallel set of crosses comprising five varieties of naked oats (Avena nuda)-As 78, Manu, Caesar, Nuprime and AJ86/2/1-and one variety of husked oats (A. sativa), Maris Oberon. In the F1 generation the distribution of multiflorous spikelets was in all cases similar to that of the mid-parent. Crosses between the varieties of A. nuda produced only naked grain on plants in the F1 and F2 generations, indicating that nakedness in the varieties studied was determined by the same loci. The three-gene model proposed by Moule (1972) for the determination of A. nuda characters was inadequate to account for the observed F2 segregation in naked x husked crosses. An extension of this model is proposed to include a third modifying gene, N3, which in the homozygous dominant condition produces the husked phenotype when the principal gene, N, is heterozygous. The model assumes complex epistatic relationships between the three modifying genes N1, N2 and N3. Published information and further experimental data suggest that the genotype NN--N3N3 is uncommon. The expression of the genes determining nakedness was greatly influenced by the environment.  相似文献
