Water quantity and quality were monitored for 3 years in a 360-m-long wetland with riparian fences and plants in a pastoral dairy farming catchment. Concentrations of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and Escherichia coli were 210–75,200 g N m−3, 12–58,200 g P m−3 and 2–20,000 most probable number (MPN)/100 ml, respectively. Average retentions (±standard error) for the wetland over 3 years were 5 ± 1%, 93 ± 13% and 65 ± 9% for TN, TP and E. coli, respectively. Retentions for nitrate–N, ammonium–N, filterable reactive P and particulate C were respectively −29 ± 5%, 32 ± 10%, −53 ± 24% and 96 ± 19%. Aerobic conditions within the wetland supported nitrification but not denitrification and it is likely that there was a high conversion rate from dissolved inputs of N and P in groundwater, to particulate N and P and refractory dissolved forms in the wetland. The wetland was notable for its capacity to promote the formation of particulate forms and retain them or to provide conditions suitable for retention (e.g. binding of phosphate to cations). Nitrogen retention was generally low because about 60% was in dissolved forms (DON and NOX–N) that were not readily trapped or removed. Specific yields for N, P and E. coli were c. 10–11 kg N ha−1 year−1, 0.2 kg P ha−1 year−1 and ≤109 MPN ha−1 year−1, respectively, and generally much less than ranges for typical dairy pasture catchments in New Zealand. Further mitigation of catchment runoff losses might be achieved if the upland wetland was coupled with a downslope wetland in which anoxic conditions would promote denitrification.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted during 2003–2005 and 2004–2006 at the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, India to study the effect of Trichoderma viride inoculation in ratoon sugarcane with three trash management practices, i.e. trash mulching, trash burning and trash removal. Trichoderma inoculation with trash mulch increased soil organic carbon and phosphorus (P) content by 5.08 Mg ha−1 and 11.7 kg ha−1 over their initial contents of 15.75 Mg ha−1 and 12.5 kg ha−1, respectively. Soil compaction evaluated as bulk density in 0- to 15-cm soil layer, increased from 1.48 Mg m−3 at ratoon initiation (in April) to 1.53 Mg m−3 at harvest (in December) due to trash burning and from 1.42 Mg m−3 at ratoon initiation (in April) to 1.48 Mg m−3 at harvest (in December) due to trash mulching. The soil basal respiration was the highest during tillering phase and then decreased gradually, thereafter with the advancement of crop growth. On an average, at all the stages of crop growth, Trichoderma inoculation increased the soil basal respiration over no inoculation. Soil microbial biomass increased in all plots except in the plots of trash burning/removal without Trichoderma inoculation. The maximum increase (40 mg C kg−1 soil) in soil microbial biomass C, however, was observed in the plots of trash mulch with Trichoderma inoculation treatment which also recorded the highest uptake of nutrient and cane yield. On an average, Trichoderma inoculation with trash mulch increased N, P and K uptake by 15.9, 4.68 and 23.6 kg ha−1, respectively, over uninoculated condition. The cane yield was increased by 12.8 Mg ha−1 with trash mulch + Trichoderma over trash removal without Trichoderma. Upon degradation, trash mulch served as a source of energy for enhanced multiplication of soil bacteria and fungi and provided suitable niche for plant–microbe interaction.  相似文献

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of cow manure and sewage sludge application on the activity and kinetics of soil l-glutaminase. Soil samples were collected from a farm experiment in which 0, 25, and 100 Mg ha−1 of either cow manure or sewage sludge had been applied annually for 4 consecutive years to a clay loam soil (Typic Haplargid). A chemical fertilizer treatment had also been applied. Results indicated that the effects of chemical fertilizer and the solid waste application on pH in the 18 surface soil (0–15 cm) samples were not significant. The organic C content, however, was affected significantly by the different treatments, being the greatest in soils treated with 100 Mg ha−1 cow manure, and the least in the control treatment. l-Glutaminase activity was generally greater in solid-waste applied soils and was significantly correlated (r = 0.939, P < 0.001) with organic C content of soils. The values of l-glutaminase maximum velocity (Vmax) ranged from 331 to 1,389 mg NH4 +–N kg−1 2 h−1. Values of the Michaelis constant (K m) ranged from 35.1 to 71.7 mM. Organic C content of the soils were significantly correlated with V max (r = 0.919, P < 0.001) and K m (r = 0.763, P < 0.001) values. These results demonstrate the considerable influence that solid waste application has on this enzymatic reaction involved in N mineralization in soil.  相似文献

The response of faba bean to the application of four rates of gypsum (0, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0 t ha−1) to a non-saline, alkaline sodic soil was measured in terms of grain yield, dry matter (DM) production, N accumulation and the proportional dependence of the legume on symbiotic N2 fixation (P atm). A yield-independent, time-integrated 15N-dilution model was used to estimate symbiotic dependence. A significant decrease in the exchangeable sodium percentage and significant increases in exchangeable Ca++ and the Ca++:Mg++ ratio in the 0–10-cm soil layer were measured 30 months after application of 10 t ha−1 gypsum. Despite low and erratic rainfall during crop growth, faba bean DM and N uptake responded positively to gypsum application. The symbiotic dependence of the legume at physiological maturity was little affected by sodicity (P atm = 0.74 at zero gypsum and 0.81–0.82 at 2.5–10 t ha−1 gypsum). The increase in fixed N due to gypsum application was mainly due to increases in legume DM and total N uptake. At 10 t ha−1 of gypsum, faba bean fixed more than 200 kg N ha−1 in above-ground biomass.  相似文献

Background, Aims and Scope  Phytoremediation is a promising means for the treatment of heavy metal contamination. Although several species have been identified as hyperaccumulators, most studies have been conducted with only one metal. Experiments were conducted to investigate the ability of Helianthus annuus and Thlaspi caerulescens to simultaneously uptake Cd, Cr and Ni. Materials and Methods  The efficiency of plants grown in a sandy-loam soil was investigated. The ability of two EDTA concentrations (0.1 and 0.3 g kg−1) for enhancing the phytoremediation of Cd, Cr and Ni at two different metal concentrations (24.75 mg kg−1 and 90 mg kg−1) was studied. Results   Thlaspi hyperaccumulated Ni with 0.1 g kg−1 EDTA. When the EDTA dosage was increased to 0.3 g kg−1, Thlaspi was able to hyperaccumulate both Ni and Cr. Since Thlaspi is a low-biomass plant, it was considered insufficient for full-scale applications. Helianthus annuus hyperacummulated Cr (with 0.1 g kg−1 EDTA) and Cd (0.3 g kg−1 EDTA). Discussion  When the contamination was 8.25 mg kg−1 per metal, the total metal uptake was 10–25% (1.35 to 2.12 mg) higher and had the same uptake selectivity (Cr>>Cd>Ni) for both EDTA levels. It was hypothesized that complexation with EDTA interfered with Ni translocation. For these experiments, the optimal results were obtained with the H. annuus-0.1 g kg−1 EDTA combination. Conclusions  Although the use of EDTA did increase the amount of metal that could be extracted, care should be taken during in-situ field applications. Chelators can also increase the amount of metals that are leached past the root zone. Metal leaching and subsequent migration could lead to ground water contamination as well as lead to new soil contamination. Recommendations and Perspectives  Additional research to identify the optimal EDTA dosage for field applications is warranted. This is necessary to ensure that the metals do not leach past the root zone. Identification of a plant that can hyperaccumulate multiple metals is critical for phytoremediation to be a viable remediation alternative. In addition to being able to hyperaccumulate multiple metals, the optimal plant must be fast growing with sufficient biomass to sequester the heavy metals.  相似文献

Bio-fertilizer application has been proposed as a strategy for enhancing soil fertility, regulating soil microflora composition, and improving crop yields, and it has been widely applied in the agricultural yields. However, the application of bio-fertilizer in grassland has been poorly studied. We conducted in situ and pot experiments to investigate the practical effects of different fertilization regimes on Leymus chinensis growth, with a focus on the potential microecological mechanisms underlying the responses of soil microbial composition. L. chinensis biomass was significantly (P?<?0.05) increased by treatment with 6000 kg ha?1 of Trichoderma bio-fertilizer compared with other treatments. We found a positive (R2 =?0.6274, P <?0.001) correlation between bacterial alpha diversity and L. chinensis biomass. Hierarchical cluster analysis and nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) revealed that soil bacterial and fungal community compositions were all separated according to the fertilization regime used. The relative abundance of the most beneficial genera in bio-fertilizer (BOF) (6000 kg ha?1Trichoderma bio-fertilizer) was significantly higher than in organic fertilizer (OF) (6000 kg ha?1 organic fertilizer) or in CK (non-amend fertilizer), there the potential pathogenic genera were reduced. There were significant negative (P?<?0.05) correlations between L. chinensis biomass and the relative abundance of several potential pathogenic genera. However, the relative abundance of most beneficial genera were significantly (P?<?0.05) positively correlated with L. chinensis biomass. Soil properties had different effects on these beneficial and on these pathogenic genera, further influencing L. chinensis biomass.  相似文献

Benefits from the application of plant growth-promoting bacteria in agriculture largely depend on the complex interactions between several factors including the nature of fertilizers selected. This study was designed to determine the fine tuning between the inoculated bacteria and different fertilizers and their effect on the growth of lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.). Plant growth promotion by a novel species of the genus Azospirillum, namely A. rugosum IMMIB AFH-6, was tested by biochemical, bioassay, and greenhouse studies. The treatments used in the greenhouse study were; unfertilized control (Blank), half recommended dose of chemical fertilizer (1/2CF), full recommended dose of chemical fertilizer (1CF), pig manure fertilizer (PMF), pig manure fertilizer + half recommended dose of chemical fertilizer (PMF + 1/2CF), and pig manure fertilizer + full recommended dose of chemical fertilizer (PMF + 1CF). All these treatments when inoculated with A. rugosum IMMIB AFH-6 inoculation were, respectively, In-Blank, In-1/2CF, In-1CF, In-PMF, In-PMF + 1/2CF, and In-PMF + 1CF. Significant increase in plant biomass and shoot N, P, Ca, and Fe was shown in the In-Blank treatment. Plant growth in soil amended with PMF and A. rugosum IMMIB AFH-6 was significantly lower than in soil treated with the chemical fertilizer, but inoculation combined with chemical fertilizer significantly elevated the plant biomass. The In-PMF + 1/2CF treatment showed the highest yield. A. rugosum IMMIB AFH-6 facilitated the accumulation of trace minerals in higher concentrations when PMF was combined with 1CF. To examine the benefits of inoculation by A. rugosum IMMIB AFH-6, we have proposed a new type of data analysis which considers both biomass and nutrient content of plants. This new type of analysis has shown the importance of the mineral content of plant.  相似文献

Grains of 80 accessions of nine species of wild Triticum and Aegilops along with 15 semi-dwarf cultivars of bread and durum wheat grown over 2 years at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, were analyzed for grain iron and zinc content. The bread and durum cultivars had very low content and little variability for both of these micronutrients. The related non-progenitor wild species with S, U and M genomes showed up to 3–4 folds higher iron and zinc content in their grains as compared to bread and durum wheat. For confirmation, two Ae. kotschyi Boiss. accessions were analyzed after ashing and were found to have more than 30% higher grain ash content than the wheat cultivars containing more than 75% higher iron and 60% higher zinc than that of wheat. There were highly significant differences for iron and zinc contents among various cultivars and wild relatives over both the years with very high broad sense heritability. There was a significantly high positive correlation between flag leaf iron and grain iron (r = 0.82) and flag leaf zinc and grain zinc (r = 0.92) content of the selected donors suggesting that the leaf analysis could be used for early selection for high iron and zinc content. ‘Chinese Spring’ (Ph I ) was used for inducing homoeologous chromosome pairing between Aegilops and wheat genomes and transferring these useful traits from the wild species to the elite wheat cultivars. A majority of the interspecific hybrids had higher leaf iron and zinc content than their wheat parents and equivalent or higher content than their Aegilops parents suggesting that the parental Aegilops donors possess a more efficient system for uptake and translocation of the micronutrients which could ultimately be utilized for wheat grain biofortification. Partially fertile to sterile BC1 derivatives with variable chromosomes of Aegilops species had also higher leaf iron and zinc content confirming the possibility of transfer of required variability. Some of the fertile BC1F3 and BC2F2 derivatives had as high grain ash and grain ash iron and zinc content as that of the donor Aegilops parent. Further work on backcrossing, selfing, selection of fertile derivatives, leaf and grain analyses for iron and zinc for developing biofortified bread and durum wheat cultivars is in progress. Nidhi Rawat, Vijay K. Tiwari, and Neelam Singh have contributed equally to the work.  相似文献

Pot experiments were carried out over two growing periods to assay the biocontrol efficacy and rhizosphere colonization of Trichoderma harzianum SQR-T037 (SQR-T037) applied as SQR-T037 conidia suspension (TCS), SQR-T037 conidia suspension blended with organic fertilizer (TBF), or SQR-T037 fermented organic fertilizer (TFF). Each formulation had three T. harzianum numbers. In two experiments, Percent Disease Indexes (PDIs) decreased with the increase of SQR-T037 number added to soils. The TFF treatment consistently exhibited the lowest PDIs at same amendment rate of SQR-T037 and 0–8.9%, 25.6–78.9%, and 4.4–50.0% of PDIs were found in TFF, TCS, and TBF treatment, respectively. Soils treated with TFF showed the highest SQR-T037 population in rhizosphere and bulk soil. Decrease of Fusarium oxysporum population in both bulk and rhizosphere soils occurred in the treatment SQR-T037 at 105 and 106 cfug−1 soil rate. The TFF treatment at the SQR-T037 rate of 103 cfug−1 soil significantly (p < 0.05) increased SQR-T037 population within the rhizoplane but had no effect on F. oxysporum population when compared to TCS and TBF. Generally, TFF treatments were superior to TCS and TBF treatments on disease control by sustaining colonization of SQR-T037 and decreasing F. oxysporum abundance in the rhizosphere soil. We propose that TFF treatment at SQR-T037 rate of 107 cfug−1 (i.e., 105 cfug−1 soil after applied to soil) was the best formulation for controlling Fusarium wilt of cucumber.  相似文献

Consumer demand for cleaned squid generates a substantial amount of waste that must be properly disposed of, creating an economic burden on processors. A potential solution to this problem involves converting squid by-products into an organic fertilizer, for which there is growing demand. Because fertilizer application to lawns can increase the risk of nutrient contamination of groundwater, we quantified leaching of NO3–N and PO4–P from perennial ryegrass turf (Lolium perenne L.) amended with two types of fertilizer: squid-based (SQ) and synthetic (SY). Field plots were established on an Enfield silt loam, and liquid (L) and granular (G) fertilizer formulations of squid and synthetic fertilizers were applied at 0, 48, 146, and 292 kg N ha−1 year−1. Levels of NO3–N and PO4–P in soil pore water from a depth of 60 cm were determined periodically during the growing season in 2008 and 2009. Pore water NO3–N levels were not significantly different among fertilizer type or formulation within an application rate throughout the course of the study. The concentration of NO3–N remained below the maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10 mg L−1 until midSeptember 2009, when values above the MCL were observed for SQG at all application rates, and for SYL at the high application rate. Annual mass losses of NO3–N were below the estimated inputs (10 kg N ha−1 year−1) from atmospheric deposition except for the SQG and SYL treatments applied at 292 kg N ha−1 year−1, which had losses of 13.2 and 14.9 kg N ha−1 year−1, respectively. Pore water PO4–P levels ranged from 0 to 1.5 mg P L−1 and were not significantly different among fertilizer type or formulation within an application rate. Our results indicate that N and P losses from turf amended with squid-based fertilizer do not differ from those amended with synthetic fertilizers or unfertilized turf. Although organic in nature, squid-based fertilizer does not appear to be more—or less—environmentally benign than synthetic fertilizers.  相似文献

Cropping in low fertility soils, especially those poor in N, contributes greatly to the low common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) yield, and therefore the benefits of biological nitrogen fixation must be intensively explored to increase yields at a low cost. Six field experiments were performed in oxisols of Paraná State, southern Brazil, with a high population of indigenous common bean rhizobia, estimated at a minimum of 103 cells g–1 soil. Despite the high population, inoculation allowed an increase in rhizobial population and in nodule occupancy, and further increases were obtained with reinoculation in the following seasons. Thus, considering the treatments inoculated with the most effective strains (H 12, H 20, PRF 81 and CIAT 899), nodule occupancy increased from an average of 28% in the first experiment to 56% after four inoculation procedures. The establishment of the selected strains increased nodulation, N2 fixation rates (evaluated by total N and N-ureide) and on average for the six experiments the strains H 12 and H 20 showed increases of 437 and 465 kg ha–1, respectively,in relation to the indigenous rhizobial population. A synergistic effect between low levels of N fertilizer and inoculation with superior strains was also observed, resulting in yield increases in two other experiments. The soil rhizobial population decreased 1 year after the last cropping, but remained high in the plots that had been inoculated. DGGE analysis of soil extracts showed that the massive inoculation apparently did not affect the composition of the bacterial community.  相似文献

Two emergent macrophytes, Arundo donax and Phragmites australis, were established in experimental subsurface flow, gravel-based constructed wetlands (CWs) and challenged by untreated stormwater collected from the hard-pan and other surfaces of a dairy processing factory in south-west Victoria, Australia. The hydraulic loading rate was tested at two levels, sequentially, 3.75 and 7.5 cm day−1. Some of the monitored variables were removed more efficiently by the planted beds in comparison to unplanted CWs (biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP); p < 0.007) but there was no significant difference between the A. donax and P. australis CWs in removal of BOD, suspended solids (SS) and TN (p > 0.007) at 3.75 cm day−1 or SS and TN at 7.5 cm day−1. At 3.75 cm day−1, BOD, SS, TN and TP removal in the A. donax and P. australis CWs was 71%, 61%, 78% and 75% and 65%, 60%, 73% and 41%, respectively. Nutrient removal at 7.5 cm day−1 in the A. donax and P. australis beds was 87%, 91%, 84% and 71% and 96%, 94%, 87% and 55%, respectively. As expected, the A. donax CWs produced considerably more biomass (10 ± 1.2 kg wet weight) than the P. australis CWs (2.7 ± 1.2 kg wet weight). This equates to approximately 107 and 36 tonnes ha−1 year−1 biomass (dry weight) for A. donax and P. australis, respectively (assuming 250 days of growing season and single-cut harvest). The performance similarity of the A. donax- and P. australis-planted CWs indicates that either may be used in HSSF wetlands treating dairy factory stormwater, although the planting of A. donax provides additional opportunities for secondary income streams through utilisation of the biomass produced.  相似文献

Salt-tolerant isolates Bacillus pumilus, Pseudomonas mendocina, Arthrobacter sp., Halomonas sp., and Nitrinicola lacisaponensis isolated from high saline habitats exhibited plant growth-promoting traits like P solubilization and indole acetic acid (IAA), siderophore, and ammonia production. These isolates were inoculated in wheat to assess microbe-mediated responses and plant growth promotion in salt affected soil. Maximum shoot and root length (33.8 and 13.6 cm) and shoot and root biomass (2.73 and 4.48 g dry weight) was recorded in plants inoculated with B. pumilus after 30 days. Total chlorophyll content was maximum in the leaves of the plants treated with Halomonas sp. (24.22 mg g−1 dry weight) followed by B. pumilus (23.41 mg g−1 dry weight) as compared to control (18.21 mg g−1 dry weight) after 30 days. Total protein content was maximum in Arthrobacter sp. inoculated plant leaves (3.19 mg g−1 dry weight) followed by B. pumilus (2.47 mg g−1 dry weight) as compared to control (2.15 mg g−1 dry weight) after 30 days. Total carotenoid content was maximum in plants inoculated with Halomonas sp. (1,075.45 and 1,113.29 μg g−1 dry weight) in comparison to control (837.32 and 885.85 μg g−1 dry weight) after 15 and 30 days. Inoculation of bacterial isolates increased presence of individual phenolics (gallic, caffeic, syringic, vanillic, ferulic, and cinnamic acids) and flavonoid quercetin in the rhizosphere soil. The concentration of IAA in rhizosphere soil and root exudates was also higher in all treatments than in control. Accumulation of phenolics and quercetin in the plants played a cumulative synergistic role that supported enhanced plant growth promotion of wheat in the stressed soil.  相似文献

Cotton Verticillium wilt is a destructive soil-borne disease affecting cotton production. In this study, application of bio-organic fertilizer (BIO) at the beginning of nursery growth and/or at the beginning of transplanting was evaluated for its ability to control Verticillium dahliae Kleb. The most efficient control of cotton Verticillium wilt was achieved when the nursery application of BIO was combined with a second application in transplanted soil, resulting in a wilt disease incidence of only 4.4%, compared with 90.0% in the control. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis patterns showed that the consecutive applications of BIO at nursery and transplanting stage resulted in the presence of a unique group of fungi not found in any other treatments. Humicola sp., Metarhizium anisopliae, and Chaetomium sp., which were considered to be beneficial fungi, were found in the BIO treatment, whereas some harmful fungi, such as Alternaria alternate, Coniochaeta velutina, and Chaetothyriales sp. were detected in the control. After the consecutive applications of BIO at nursery and transplanting stage, the V. dahliae population in the rhizosphere soil in the budding period, flowering and boll-forming stage, boll-opening stage, and at harvest time were 8.5 × 102, 3.1 × 102, 4.6 × 102, and 1.7 × 102 colony-forming units per gram of soil (cfu g−1), respectively, which were significantly lower than in the control (6.1 × 103, 3.4 × 103, 5.2 × 103, and 7.0 × 103 cfu g−1, respectively). These results indicate that the suggested application mode of BIO could effectively control cotton Verticillium wilt by significantly changing the fungal community structure and reducing the V. dahliae population in the rhizosphere soil.  相似文献

Laboratory tests and greenhouse experiments were carried out to investigate the abilities of Bacillus subtilis Y-IVI to promote plant growth and to colonize the rhizosphere and interior tissues of muskmelon. Laboratory tests showed that B. subtilis Y-IVI can produce indole acetic acid, siderophores, and ammonia. The inoculation of soil with green fluorescent protein-tagged Y-IVI (GY-IVI) significantly increased plant shoot and root dry weights as compared with the non-inoculated soils. The inoculation of soil with B. subtilis GY-IVI maintained approximately 108 colony-forming units (cfu) of GY-IVI per gram of dry rhizosphere soil for 1 month. The GY-IVI recovered from the interior of crowns and roots in the inoculated soil were 106 and 107 cfu g−1 dry weight, respectively, suggesting that GY-IVI acted as an endophyte. In the present study, we combined the two important growth promotion ingredients, colonization ability and growth promotion metabolites produced by biological agents, to investigate B. subtilis Y-IVI’s promotion effects on muskmelon growth.  相似文献

Elevated emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region, Alberta and higher foliar nitrogen (N) concentrations in jack pine (Pinus banksiana) needles close to major emission sources has led to concerns that the surrounding boreal forest may become N-saturated. Despite these concerns, N deposition and impacts on upland forests in the region is poorly quantified. The objective of this study was to characterize N cycling in five plots representing the two dominant upland forest types (jack pine and trembling aspen, Populus tremuloides) close (<30 km) to the largest mining operations in the region, during a 2-year period. Despite the high level of NOx emissions, bulk throughfall and deposition measured at both study sites were surprisingly very low (<2 kg N ha−1 year−1). Internal N cycling was much greater in aspen stands; annual N input in litterfall was ten times greater, and net N mineralization rates were two to five times greater than in jack pine stands. Nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) was much greater in jack pine when calculated based on N litterfall indices, but not when N pools in biomass were considered. Despite differences in internal cycling among forest types, nitrate leaching from mineral soil in both forest types was negligible (<0.1 kg N ha−1 year−1) and patterns of 15N in roots, foliage, and mineral soil were typical of N-limited ecosystems, and both sites show no evidence of N saturation.  相似文献

Trigeneric hybrids may help establish evolutionary relationships among different genomes present in the same cellular-genetic background, and also offers the possibility to transfer different alien characters into cultivated wheat. In this study, a new trigeneric hybrid involving species from the Triticum, Psathyrostachys and Secale was synthesized by crossing wheat-P. huashanica amphiploid (PHW-SA) with wheat-S. cereale amphiploid (Zhongsi 828). The crossability of F1 hybrid was high with 35.13%, and the fertility was 41.95%. The morphological characteristics of F1 plants resembled the parent Zhongsi 828. The trigeneric hybrids pollen mother cells (PMCs) regularly revealed averagely 19.88 univalents, 9.63 ring bivalents, 3.97 rod bivalents, 0.60 trivalents and 0.03 tetravalents per cell. Multivalents consisted of trivalents and tetravalents can be observed in 52.7% of cells. A variation of abnormal lagging chromosome, micronuclei and chromosome bridge were formed at anaphase I and telophase II. The mean chromosomes number of F2 progenies was 2n = 46.13, and the distribution range was 42–53. GISH results revealed that most F2 plants had 6–12 S. cereale chromosomes, and only 0–2 P. huashanica chromosomes were detected. The results indicated that S. cereale chromosomes can be preferentially transmitted in the F2 progenies of trigeneric hybrid than P. huashanica chromosomes. A survey of disease resistances revealed that the stripe rust resistance from the PHW-SA were completely expressed in the F1 and some F2 plants. The trigeneric hybrid could be a useful bridge for the transference of P. huashanica and S. cereale chromatins to common wheat.  相似文献

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) play an important role in the biodegradation of natural and xenobiotic organic compounds in soil. They can also alter heavy metal bioavailability and contribute to phytoremediation in the presence or absence of synthetic metal chelating agents. In this study, the inhibitory effect of Cd2+ and Ni2+ at different concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+, and the influence of the widely used chelator EDTA on growth of the PGPR Pseudomonas brassicacearum in a mineral salt medium with a mixture of four main plant exudates (glucose, fructose, citrate, succinate) was investigated. Therefore, the bacteriostatic effect of Cd2+, Ni2+ and EDTA on the maximum specific growth rate and the determination of EC50 values was used to quantify inhibitory impact. At high concentrations of Ca2+ (800 μmol L-1) and Mg2+ (1,250 μmol L-1), only a small inhibitory effect of Cd2+ and Ni2+ on growth of P. brassicacearum was observed (EC50 Cd2+, 18,849 ± 80 μmol L−1; EC50 Ni2+, 3,578 ± 1,002 μmol L−1). The inhibition was much greater at low concentrations of Ca2+ (25 μmol L−1) and Mg2+ (100 μmol L−1) (EC50 Cd2+, 85 ± 0.5 μmol L−1 and EC Ni2+, 62 ± 1.8 μmol L−1). For the chosen model system, a competitive effect of the ions Cd2+ and Ca2+ on the one hand and Ni2+ and Mg2+ on the other hand can be deduced. However, the toxicity of both, Cd2+ and Ni2+, could be significantly reduced by addition of EDTA, but if this chelating agent was added in stoichiometric excess to the cations, it also exhibited an inhibitory effect on growth of P. brassicacearum.  相似文献

Background, aims, and scope  Increasing soil acidification is a growing concern in southern China. The traditional green manures applied in the fields mostly comprise legumes that tend to accelerate soil acidification. Moreover, acid deposition can act as a source of nitrogen. Hence, we looked for new plant species that would enhance nutrient concentrations when used as green manure and would reduce soil acidity or at least not worsen it. Materials and methods  We studied the use of Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers. for ameliorating acid soil in a pot experiment with simulated acid rain (SAR) treatments (pH 5.8 to 3.0) in an open area in Guangzhou City. The pots were divided into two groups named A and B groups. On day 0, pots of A group were filled with soil and planted with Erigeron annuus seedlings. Pots of B group were only filled with soil as the control. On day 40, seedlings of E. annuus were harvested and buried in the corresponding pots. On day 54, two seeds of Phaseolus vulgaris L. were sown in each pot in both groups. The growth and bean yield of P. vulgaris seedlings were then used to evaluate the effects of E. annuus on acid soil. Plant and/or soil samples were collected on days 0, 40, 54, and 150; corresponding parameters were measured. Results  Results showed that E. annuus could maintain a good growth even on very acid soil. On day 40, the pH decreased significantly (P < 0.0001) in the B group pots without E. annuus compared with the A group. On day 54, after E. annuus was buried as a manure, the soil pH of all A group treatments except the pH 4.0 treatment showed a significant increase compared to day 40 (P < 0.01). At the same time, the application of E. annuus as a manure produced a significant increase of soil K and P (P < 0.001), Ca (P < 0.05), and Mg (P < 0.001) concentrations of all A group SAR treatments compared to their B group counterparts (except control pots for Ca). The soil exchangeable K and available P concentration doubled, and Ca and Mg increased by around 25% in the presence of the E. annuus manure application. Discussion  The higher soil pH in the A group than B group on the day 40 was due to a great absorption of NO3 by the roots of E. annuus. The soil pH increase after E. annuus was applied to the soil of A group was attributed to the release of high amount of K, the mineralization of organic N, and the oxidation of organic acid anions. Nutrient increase in the A group after E. annuus application was mostly the result of the nutrient release during the residue decomposition. The amelioration of the soil was effective as demonstrated by the enhanced growth and bean yield of P. vulgaris seedlings on the manured soil compared to the seedlings grown on a control that was not manured. Conclusions   E. annuus could maintain a good growth in the acid lateritic field soil. Cultivating this plant and applying it to the soil with a rate of 1.6 ton ha−1 doubled the soil K and P concentrations and increased soil exchangeable Ca and Mg concentrations by around 25%. This species would be a good green manure candidate for growing in the acid soils of southern China. Application of E. annuus also has beneficial effects on crop growth through reduced Al toxicity and cation leaching. Recommendations and perspectives  Since E. annuus would improve soil pH and nutrient concentrations with minimum care, it is recommended for treating acid soils with poor yield whenever a low-cost solution is required.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of pre-inoculation of cucumber plants with each of the three arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi Glomus intraradices, Glomus mosseae, and Glomus versiforme on reproduction of the root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. All three AM fungi tested significantly reduced the root galling index, which is the percentage of total roots forming galls. Numbers of galls per root system were significantly reduced only in the G. intraradices + M. incognita treatment. The number of eggs per root system was significantly decreased by AM fungus inoculation, no significant difference among the three AM fungal isolates. AM inoculation substantially decreased the number of females, the number of eggs g−1 root and of the number of eggs per egg mass. The number of egg masses g−1 root was greatly reduced by inoculation with G. mosseae or G. versiforme. By considering plant growth, nutrient uptake, and the suppression of M. incognita together, G. mosseae and G. versiforme were more effective than G. intraradices.  相似文献
