Two metabolism trials were conducted with 12 crossbred wether lambs, each surgically equipped with a ruminal catheter and abomasal and ileal cannulae, to study the effect of K infusion in different sites of the digestive tract on site of absorption and flow of minerals. The treatments consisted of the infusion of 33.6, 12.0 or 12.0 g K/d as bicarbonate into either the rumen, abomasum or ileum, respectively. Each trial consisted of a minimum 5-d preliminary period, five 3-d collection periods to determine mineral balance and a 6-d sampling period to determine mineral flow and site of absorption. Chromic oxide was incorporated into the diet for use as a marker. Magnesium was absorbed primarily from the preintestinal region. Ruminal infusion of K tended to decrease preintestinal Mg absorption. Absorption of Mg in the entire tract was decreased (P less than .05) 43% when K was infused into the rumen. There was a slight absorption of Mg in the small intestine, followed by a net secretion into the large intestine. Serum Mg levels tended to be depressed in lambs infused with K intraruminally. Calcium flow from the preintestinal region was decreased (P less than .05) by infusion of K into the rumen. Only lambs infused with K in the rumen had a net secretion of Na into the small intestine. The large intestine was the primary site of net Na absorption for ruminal-infused lambs. Phosphorus flow from the preintestinal region was decreased (P less than .05) by infusion of K into the rumen. Potassium flow from both the preintestine and small intestine was increased (P less than .05) by ruminal K infusion. The infusion of K into the rumen, abomasum or ileum increased (P less than .05) the total absorption of K, with the small intestine being the major absorptive site. The infusion of potassium bicarbonate into the rumen of sheep raised (P less than .05) the pH of the ruminal contents 15%. Ruminal infusion of K depresses Mg absorption, while the infusion of K into the abomasum or ileum does not affect Mg absorption. Therefore, the role of K in grass tetany may be via this depression of Mg absorption.  相似文献

Three metabolism trials were conducted with six lambs fitted with abomasal and ileal cannulae to determine the site of supplemental Mg absorption when supplied as dolomitic limestone or magnesium oxide. Magnesium intake was 1.09 g/d for the lambs fed the control diet and 2.21 and 2.10 g for those fed the dolomitic limestone and magnesium oxide supplemented diets, respectively. Irrespective of its source, the major site of Mg absorption was the preintestinal region. Magnesium was secreted in the small intestine in lambs fed all three diets. Magnesium supplementation resulted in an increase (P less than .05) in preintestinal Mg absorption, with magnesium oxide having the highest value. Supplementation had no effect (P greater than .05) on secretion or absorption of Mg from the small and large intestines or total retention of Mg. With all three diets, the major site of Ca absorption was the stomach region with additional absorption taking place in the large intestine. Calcium was secreted in the small intestine of lambs fed all treatments. Generally, K, Na and P were secreted in the preintestinal region and absorbed from the small and large intestines. The major site of K and P absorption appeared to be the small intestine and for Na, the large intestine. Serum minerals were unchanged (P greater than .05) due to treatment, but the levels of Mg, K and inorganic P tended to be higher in lambs supplemented with either of the Mg sources. It appears that the greater utilization of Mg from magnesium oxide vs dolomitic limestone is due to greater absorption of Mg from the forestomach region.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of increasing dietary K on macromineral bioavailability from a wheat straw-hay diet, and to monitor changes in the rumen that could affect mineral availability. In the first experiment, 12 mature wethers were used in a metabolism study to determine the effect of adding potassium chloride (KCl) to a supplement fed with a diet of 55% NH3-treated wheat straw and 45% bromegrass hay. In the second experiment, similar diets were fed to six wethers with ruminal and abomasal cannulae to determine the site of mineral absorption. Dietary K levels were 1, 2 and 3% of the diet dry matter. Increasing K tended to decrease (P less than .06) apparent absorption of Mg. Potassium absorption increased (P less than .01) with increasing dietary K, but retention was not altered. Quadratic effects (P less than .01) of K were observed for Ca and P apparent absorption and retention. Increased K lowered (P less than .05) plasma Mg in Exp. 1 but not in Exp. 2. Ruminal concentrations of K increased (P less than .01), and concentrations of Na decreased (P less than .05), as dietary K increased. Ruminal fermentation was influenced by dietary K level. Molar proportions of acetate in the rumen were increased (P less than .01) by the addition of K to the diet, while molar proportions of butyrate (P less than .01) and valerate (P less than .01) decreased linearly with increasing K. Two experiments were conducted to determine some of the factors that led to hypomagnesemic tetany associated with the feeding of two orchardgrass hays. Sixteen mature Columbia and Suffolk wethers (62 to 72 kg), four of which were fitted with ruminal and abomasal cannulae, were fed one of two tetany-prone orchardgrass hays or a non-tetany-prone bromegrass hay. In Exp. 1, 12 wethers were used in a completely random design metabolism experiment to measure apparent absorption and retention of macrominerals. In Exp. 2, four wethers with ruminal and abomasal cannulae were used in a completely random design experiment to monitor pre-intestinal mineral absorption and ruminal characteristics. This experiment was replicated once, with wethers remaining on their diets for 16 d in each replication. In the metabolism experiment, apparent absorption and retention of Mg as a percentage of intake were lower (P less than .01 and P less than .05) for one tetany-prone orchardgrass hay compared with the other orchardgrass hay. Pre-intestinal absorption of Mg in the cannulated wethers was greater (P less than .01) for the orchardgrass hays than for the bromegrass hay. Pre-intestinal Mg absorption was higher (P less than .01), both in terms of grams per day and a percentage of intake for the orchardgrass hay with the highest Mg content. In the noncannulated wethers, the percentage of water-soluble Mg in the feces was lower (P less than .01) for the tetany-prone hays, indicating that a decrease in Mg solubility in the intestine may have influenced Mg apparent absorption.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Sheep were used to determine the effects of dietary supplementation with readily-fermentable carbohydrates on Mg, Ca, K and P utilization. In each of two metabolism trials, 15 mature, crossbred wethers (average weight, 49.2 kg) were allotted to five dietary treatments consisting of 800 g/d of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata, L.) hay alone, or supplemented with 450 g/d of either glucose, sucrose, lactose or starch. Each trial consisted of a 5-d adjustment period, a 10-d preliminary period and a 10-d collection period. Compared with wethers fed hay alone, supplementation with each kind of carbohydrate to the diet decreased (P less than .05) fecal Mg excretion and increased (P less than .05) apparent absorption and retention of Mg. Apparent absorption of the Ca was lower (P less than .05) in wethers fed lactose and tended to be decreased by glucose, sucrose and starch supplementation. Calcium retention was lower (P less than .05) in wethers fed sucrose and lactose, compared with those fed hay alone. All types of supplementary carbohydrates depressed (P less than .05) apparent absorption and urinary excretion of K. Serum Mg and Ca were not affected and serum K was depressed (P less than .05) by carbohydrate supplementation. Ruminal fluid pH was decreased (P less than .05) by glucose and lactose supplementation, and addition of these carbohydrates tended to decrease molar proportions of acetate and increase those of propionate and butyrate, compared with sheep fed hay alone. A 60-d trial was conducted to determine effects of Al citrate and citric acid on DM digestibility (DMD) and metabolism of Mg, Ca, P, K, Na and Al. Eighteen crossbred, yearling wether lambs equipped with ruminal cannulas were fed a basal diet containing .12% Mg and 2.87% K (DM basis) and were allotted to three treatments: 1) control, 2) 2,000 ppm Al as Al citrate and 3) citric acid equivalent to the citrate in treatment 2. Treatments were administered in 200 ml of deionized water twice daily in divided doses via ruminal cannula. Balance trials were conducted during d 0 to 5, 6 to 10, 25 to 35 and 50 to 60. Dry matter digestibility decreased (P less than .05) approximately 3 percentage units in lambs receiving Al. Treatment with Al citrate increased (P less than .01) apparent absorption and retention of Al compared to those receiving citric acid alone. Approximately 30% of ingested and infused Al was apparently absorbed. Compared to citric acid, Al citrate treatment lowered apparent absorption and retention of Mg and Ca during d 0 to 5. Apparent Ca absorption and retention again were lowered during d 50 to 60. Urinary Ca was increased (P less than .01) and apparent P absorption (P less than .10) and retention (P less than .05) were decreased by Al citrate during all measurement periods. Apparent absorption of K decreased (P less than .05) slightly in response to Al treatment. Apparent absorption of Na was not influenced by Al treatment. Serum Mg and P decreased and serum Ca increased in response to Al treatment. Results demonstrate negative effects of ingested Al, but not of citric acid, on DMD and metabolism of Mg, Ca, P and K.  相似文献

Two metabolism trials were conducted to determine the effect of altering dietary Na and K on Mg availability. Three dietary treatments (normal K-normal Na, high K-normal Na and high K-high Na) were imposed upon nine crossbred wether lambs in a randomized block design. Each trial consisted of a 5-d diet adjustment, a 10-d preliminary period and a 5-d collection of feed, feces and urine. Increasing K and Na intake increased the percentage of Mg excreted in feces. Both elevated K and K-Na depressed (P less than .10) urinary Mg excretion, primarily a reflection of depressed Mg absorption in animals fed these diets. Apparent K absorption and retention increased when animals were supplemented with K. Addition of Na to the diet did not alter absorption or retention of K. Apparent K and Na availability increased when K and Na supplements were included in the diet. This increased availability resulted from increased total absorbed K and Na compared with a fixed endogenous excretion. Calcium balance in lambs was not affected by addition of K or Na. Lambs were able to absorb enough Mg from their respective diet to maintain normal serum Mg levels. Addition of Na to a diet high in K did not enhance Mg absorption in lambs.  相似文献

Six Angus x Simmental steers, surgically equipped with abomasal and ileal cannulae, were used during three metabolism trials. Steers were blocked according to weight ad were allotted to three dietary K levels (.6, 2.4 and 4.8% dry basis) for each trial with the restriction that no animal would receive the same level during two successive trials. Each trial consisted of a 5-d transition, a 10-d preliminary period, a 7-d collection of feed, feces and urine and a 6-d sampling of feed, feces and abomasal and ileal fluid. Chromic oxide (.5%) was used as an indicator to measure flow through the digestive tract. Magnesium absorption decreased linearly (P less than .05) with increasing level of dietary K. The primary site of Mg absorption was the preintestinal region followed by a net secretion into the small intestine. Preintestinal Mg absorption was decreased 39% when 4.8% K was fed. Serum Mg was lower at high levels of dietary K. Potassium absorption increased linearly when expressed as g/d and curvilinearly when expressed as percentage of intake, with increasing levels of dietary K. When .6% K was fed, the primary site of K absorption was the small intestine, but with the high levels of K, the preintestinal region was also an important site of absorption. The effect of high K level on Mg absorption in steers was similar to that observed previously in sheep.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of alterations in ruminal pH and volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentrations on utilization of Mg and other minerals. In Exp. 1, two metabolism trials were conducted with 12 ruminally cannulated crossbred wethers fed 800 g/d of orchard-grass (Dactylis glomerata, L.) hay. After each feeding, wethers were ruminally infused with 500 ml (4.2 ml/min) or either 1) deionized water, 2) 40% (w/v) glucose solution, 3) .26 M propionic and .17 M butyric acid solution or 4) .35 M HCl. The pH of the VFA solution was adjusted to 6.8 with 10N NaOH. In Exp. 2, a metabolism trial was conducted with 12 ruminally cannulated crossbred wethers fed 600 g of orchard-grass hay and infused with a buffered VFA solution prepared as in Exp. 1 or with an unbuffered solution. In both experiments each trial consisted of a 5-d adaption period followed by four 5-d collections of feed, feces and urine. Compared with the glucose treatment, infusion of the buffered VFA solution produced similar acetic and propionic and higher (P less than .05) butyric acid concentrations (Exp. 1). The HCl solution produced changes in ruminal and pH values similar to those of the glucose infusion. In Exp. 1, apparent absorption of Mg was increased over twofold by the glucose infusion (P less than .05), but the other infusions had no effect. Apparent absorption of P was decreased (P less than .05) by HCl infusion, and K absorption was decreased by HCl and glucose infusions. In Exp. 2, infusion of the unbuffered VFA solution decreased apparent Mg absorption by 15.7%, compared with infusion of the buffered solution. These experiments suggest that the increased Mg absorption observed with carbohydrate supplementation is not due to alterations in ruminal pH or VFA levels.  相似文献

To test whether mineral recommendations for horses are likely to guarantee adequate mineral provision for black rhinoceroses (Diceros bicornis), we investigated the apparent absorption (aA) of macro- and microminerals in eight black rhinoceroses from three zoological institutions in a total of 32 feeding trials with total faecal collection, with additional data from three unpublished studies (18 feeding trials). Feeds and faeces were analysed for Ca, P, Mg, Na, K, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Co. The resulting aA coefficients, and the linear relationships of apparently absorbable dietary mineral content to total dietary mineral content [per 100 g dry matter (DM)], were compared with data for domestic horses. Rhinoceroses had significantly higher aA coefficients for Ca and Mg (because of a higher calculated 'true' absorption), and lower ones for Na and K (because of calculated higher endogenous faecal losses). High absorption efficiency for divalent cations is hypothesized to be an adaptation to a natural diet of particularly high Ca:P ratio (approximately 14:1); an effective removal of Ca from the ingesta guarantees sufficient P availability at the fermentation site in the hindgut. Higher faecal losses of Na and K are hypothesized to be linked to a higher faecal bulk per DM intake in black rhinoceroses as compared with horses because of a generally lower digestive efficiency. There were no relevant differences in the absorption patterns of microminerals. In particular, there were no discernable differences in Fe absorption within the rhinoceroses for diets with and without tannin supplementation. Several of the zoo diets assessed in this study were deficient in Cu, Mn or Zn, and most contained excessive levels of Fe when compared with horse requirements. The findings of this study indicate that differences in mineral absorption between occur even between species of similar digestive anatomy; that in particular, Ca absorption might vary between hindgut fermenters with Ca:P ratio in their natural diet; that Na might be a particularly limiting factor in the ecology of free-ranging rhinoceroses; that moderate doses of tannins do not seem to markedly influence mineral absorption; and that diets for captive animals should contain adequate, but not excessive mineral levels.  相似文献

Eight crossbred steers (avg wt, 350 kg) with duodenal and ileal cannulas were used in two experimental periods in a single-reversal design to determine the effects of monensin on site and extent of apparent absorption of Mg and Ca. Steers were fed a cottonseed hull:concentrate diet (30:70) with or without 25 mg monensin/kg. The diet contained .20% Mg and .38% Ca. Each diet contained .25% Cr2O3 as a digesta marker. During each period, steers were fed the control diet for 10 d before allotment to treatments. Each period consisted of 17 d for diet adjustment and 6 d for collection. During the collection phase, fecal samples were obtained beginning on d 1 and continuing through d 6 at 12-h intervals progressing 2 h each day. Apparent Mg availability (grams apparently absorbed expressed as a percentage of grams of intake) increased (P less than .05) from 18.4 to 32.5% when monensin was fed. Feeding monensin increased (P less than .05) the apparent Mg availability and amount of Mg absorbed in the preintestinal region (47.7 vs 29.8% and 8.5 vs 5.1 g/d, respectively). Larger quantities (P less than .05) of Mg were secreted into the small intestine when monensin was fed. Monensin did not alter (P less than .05) apparent Ca availability or absorption in any segment of the digestive tract. These data indicate that monensin increased Mg and did not change Ca availability in the preintestinal region.  相似文献

为了探究不同类型盐分(NaCl、混合Na盐和混合Cl盐)胁迫下3个品种(‘银豌1号’、‘S5001-1’和‘737’)的豌豆幼苗对离子吸收与运输的生理机制,采用水培方法对3个品种的豌豆幼苗的盐分离子吸收、分布、累积特性进行了研究。结果表明,1)3个品种的豌豆幼苗在NaCl和混合Na盐处理下,地上部和根系Na+ 含量较对照均显著增加,而K+、Ca2+含量则显著降低;混合Cl盐处理下,豌豆幼苗地上部和根系Na+ 含量较对照均无显著差异,而Cl-、K+、Ca2+ 和Mg2+含量均显著高于NaCl处理和混合Na盐处理。2)3个品种的豌豆幼苗在正常生长条件下均优先吸收并富集K+,其次是Ca2+;在NaCl和混合Cl盐处理下优先吸收并富集K+,其次是Na+ 和Cl-;混合Na盐处理下则优先吸收并富集Na+ 和K+,其次是Ca2+,但不同处理下离子的分布和累积状况在不同品种的豌豆幼苗间有所不同。3)NaCl和混合Na盐处理下,3个品种的豌豆幼苗的离子选择性吸收系数SAK,Na、SACa,Na和SAMg,Na显著升高,而在混合Cl盐处理下显著降低。同一处理下,3个品种的豌豆幼苗间的离子选择性运输系数也表现不同,NaCl和混合Na盐处理下,‘S5001-1’的STK,Na和STCa,Na较对照显著升高,而‘银豌1号’的STK,Na和STCa,Na在混合Na盐和混合Cl盐处理下较对照显著降低,3个品种的豌豆幼苗间的STK,Na在混合Cl盐处理下无显著差异。以上结果说明,NaCl和混合Na盐处理下,豌豆幼苗地上部对Ca2+、K+和Mg2+的累积量明显下降,同时为了应对盐分胁迫,根系对Ca2+、K+和Mg2+的吸收及运输能力则显著增强;在混合Cl盐处理下,豌豆幼苗地上部对Ca2+、K+和Mg2+的吸收及累积量较其他两种盐分处理明显增加,但根系对于Ca2+、K+和Mg2+的吸收及运输能力则显著低于其他两种盐分处理,而且品种间差异显著。本结果对于阐明不同盐分类型胁迫下植物对离子吸收与运输的生理机制提供一定的理论依据。  相似文献

Twenty-five wether lambs (34 +/- 0.9 kg) fitted with ruminal and abomasal infusion catheters were used in a completely randomized design to determine the effects of differing proportions of ruminal and abomasal casein infusion on N balance in lambs fed a high-concentrate diet (85% corn grain, 1.6% N; DM basis) for ad libitum intake. Wethers were infused with 0 (control) or 10.4 g/d of N from casein with ruminal:abomasal infusion ratios of 100:0, 67:33, 33:67, or 0:100% over a 14-d period. Feed, orts, feces, and urine were collected over the last 5 d. Total N intake and excretion were greater (P < 0.01) in lambs infused with casein than in controls; however, N retention did not differ in lambs infused with casein compared with controls, suggesting that N requirements were met without casein supplementation. Total N intake and total N excretion did not differ among casein infusion treatments. Urinary N excretion decreased linearly (P = 0.07) with decreasing ruminal infusion of casein. Site of casein infusion quadratically (P = 0.06) influenced N retained (g/d), with the greatest retention observed in the 33:67 ruminal:abomasal infusion treatment. Dry matter intake from feed decreased from 1,183 to 945 g/d (P = 0.02) in lambs infused with casein compared with controls, but apparently digested DM did not differ among treatments. These data indicate that decreasing the ruminal degradability of supplemental protein above that required to maximize N retention results in decreased urinary excretion of N without greatly affecting apparent diet digestion.  相似文献

Postprandial shifts in body water compartments might limit feed intake by ruminants, especially when an animal becomes partially dehydrated during transportation or other periods of water deprivation. This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of feed and water deprivation on postprandial changes in body water compartments in wethers. Hampshire wethers (n = 8; average BW 42 +/- 2 kg) were used in a crossover design. During each period, four wethers were limit-fed (540 g DM/d: FED) and four were deprived of feed and water for 72 h (DEPRIVED). Wethers were infused i.v. with Evans blue and sodium thiosulfate and intraruminally with Cr- or Co-EDTA, after which blood and ruminal samples were collected for the next 4 h. All wethers were then fed 540 g of feed DM, and infusions were repeated 30 min after feeding. Body water compartment volumes were determined with linear regression using plasma concentrations of Evans blue (plasma volume), and sodium thiosulfate (extracellular volume), and using ruminal fluid concentrations of Cr or Co. Feed and water deprivation decreased (P < .01) extracellular water space but did not affect plasma or ruminal water space. After feeding, extracellular water space decreased (P < .01) and ruminal volume increased (P < .05) in the FED and DEPRIVED wethers. Plasma pools of Na, K, and Mg were not affected by feeding in FED wethers but decreased (P < .05) in DEPRIVED wethers. The increase in ruminal fluid pools of Na, K, and Mg were greater (P < .05) in FED than in DEPRIVED wethers. These results indicate that abnormal water and electrolyte shifts may be factors partially responsible for the decreased feed intake by ruminants subjected to transportation or feed and water deprivation stress.  相似文献

Four crossbred barrows, weighing an average of 26 kg each, were fitted with simple T-cannulas in the terminal ileum and placed in metabolism cages to evaluate the effect of dietary supplements of NaHCO3 or KHCO3 on the short-term metabolism of sodium (Na), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and chloride (Cl). A control diet containing 2.8 g/kg Na and 4.1 g/kg K was compared with similar diets supplemented with either 13 g/kg or 26 g/kg NaHCO3 or 30 g/kg KHCO3. All diets contained 4 g/kg Cr2O3 as an external marker and were offered twice daily (1,100 g X pig-1 X d-1) in a 4 X 4 Latin square arrangement. Feces and total urine output were collected for 24 h on the fifth day after introducing a new diet; digesta was collected for 12-h periods on d 6 and 7. Sodium and K concentrations at the terminal ileum were unaffected by dietary treatment. Apparent ileal digestibility of Na was increased by NaHCO3 supplements. Over the total gastrointestinal tract, diet had no affect on apparent Na digestibility. Urinary Na clearance was increased by NaHCO3 in the diet in a dose-dependent manner. Net Na retention (g/d) was increased by NaHCO3. Apparent ileal digestibility of K was increased by KHCO3. Apparent fecal digestibility of K was increased by KHCO3 and NaHCO3. Urinary K clearance was elevated by KHCO3, but not enough to overcome the increased K intake; net K balance (g/d) rose in response to dietary KHCO3 supplements. To test whether mineral recommendations for horses are likely to guarantee adequate mineral provision for tapirs (Tapirus spp.), we investigated the apparent absorption (aA) of macro and micro‐minerals in 18 tapirs from five zoological institutions in a total of 24 feeding trials with total faecal collection. Samples of feeds and faeces were analysed for Ca, P, Mg, Na, K, Fe, Cu and Zn. The resulting aA coefficients and the linear relationships of apparently absorbable dietary mineral content to total dietary mineral content (per 100 g dry matter) were compared with data for domestic horses. While there were no apparent differences in the absorption patterns for P, K, Na, Fe, Cu or Zn, the absorption of both Ca and Mg was distinctively higher in tapirs than in horses. Tapirs are browsers that are adapted to a diet of higher Ca content and higher Ca:P ratio than equids, and high absorptive efficiency for Ca might have evolved to ensure that high dietary Ca concentrations do not lead to the binding of dietary P in the intestine, making it unavailable for hindgut microbes. Similar to other hindgut fermenters, in tapirs, absorption coefficients for Ca increased with dietary Ca:P ratio, and urinary Ca:creatinine ratios increased with dietary Ca. Several zoo diets used were deficient in one or more minerals. When compared with faeces of free‐ranging animals, faeces of zoo animals had higher concentrations of most minerals, probably indicating a lesser diluting effect of indigestible fibre in zoo animals.  相似文献

Two trials were conducted with 15 wethers surgically equipped with duodenal and ileal cannulas to study the utilization of P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn from swine waste and broiler litter. For each trial, animals were fed a low-P basal diet until serum inorganic P averaged 5.5 mg/dl; then they were allotted at random to the following 50% DM ensiled diets: low-P basal, basal + swine waste, basal + broiler litter, basal + dicalcium phosphate and basal + soybean meal. Each trial consisted of a 7-d preliminary period, a 7-d collection of feces and urine and 6-d sampling of duodenal and ileal digesta and feces. Apparent P absorption was not different (P greater than .05) between sheep fed waste-supplemented diets (37%) and those fed the conventionally supplemented diets (28%). Phosphorus absorption, calculated by difference, tended (P less than .1) to be higher from the waste supplements (59%) than from dicalcium phosphate and soybean meal (37%). Less (P less than .05) Ca was absorbed from the waste diets (.62 g/d) than from the conventional diets (1.28 g/d). More (P less than .05) Cu (mg/d) was absorbed from the waste diets, but no difference was found when absorption was expressed as percentage of intake. Broiler litter and swine waste were good sources of available P and Mg for ruminants.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the influence of dietary concentrate level and iv lactate infusion on the urinary excretion and balance of Ca, Mg and P in lambs. In Exp. 1, six ruminal fistulated, crossbred wethers (25 kg) were fed diets of 0, 50 and 70% concentrate for 5-d periods (periods 1, 2 and 3, respectively) followed by 25 d on a 90% concentrate diet (periods 4, 5 and 6, respectively). Collections were made for all days except 6 to 10 and 16 to 20 on the 90% concentrate diet. Dry matter intakes increased with each increase in dietary concentrate until the initial period of 90% concentrate (period 4) when intakes were lowest. Intakes increased (P less than .05) during the latter two periods of 90% concentrate feeding compared with period 4. Rumen fluid pH decreased and rumen L (+) lactate increased with increasing concentrate intake. Blood pH and bicarbonate both decreased with increasing concentrate intake indicating a mild disturbance in acid-base balance. Plasma concentrations of Ca, Mg and P decreased with increased concentrate intake and were elevated (P less than .05) for periods 5 and 6 compared with period 4. Plasma alkaline phosphatase activity and urinary hydroxyproline excretion both increased (P less than .05) for periods 5 and 6. Four of the six animals were in negative Ca balance for the initial period of 90% concentrate feeding, but showed highest Ca retentions for periods 5 and 6. Magnesium and P balance appeared unaffected by increased concentrate intake. Disturbances in Ca metabolism appeared to be short-term and nondetrimental; the animals responded with increased growth and Ca retentions once adjusted to the high concentrate diet. In Exp. 2, four Hampshire ewes (32 kg) were used in a 4 X 4 Latin square design with treatments being saline (.9% NaCl, w/v), L (+) lactate, D (-) lactate and D, L-lactate infused iv in a saline solution to supply .6 mM/kg body weight of each isomer in 15 min. Plasma and urine samples were taken 0, .5, 1, 1.5, 3, 6 and 12 h from the start of infusion. Total urinary excretion of Ca (P less than .04) and Mg (P less than .02) were elevated for all lactate infusions as compared with saline. Total P excretion was greater (P = .06) for all lactate infusions compared with saline and was increased (P less than .05) for the D, L-lactate treatment as compared with the D- and L-lactate treatments.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

Six aged Merino ewes were used in an experiment in which five were infused with 4.7% Na2EDTA solution intravenously for 18 h at a rate designed to produce hypocalcaemia and maintain recumbency, and five with 0.9% sodium chloride solution at the same rate for the same period (four were infused at different times with both solutions). Blood samples were collected every 3 h and determinations made of plasma Ca, Na, K, Mg, and inorganic P (PiP), erythrocyte Na, K and Mg, and PCV. Three of the hypocalcaemic sheep took 36-64 h to regain their feet. Plasma Ca and K, and erythrocyte Na showed significant (all P less than 0.01) decreases in the group infused with Na2EDTA compared with the group infused with saline while PCVs were significantly (P less than 0.01) greater in the former group. The sheep model used could be suitable for the study of the effects of prolonged hypocalcaemia and recumbency in cows.  相似文献

Two metabolism trials were conducted with 12 yearling crossbred wethers per trial (34 and 38 kg for trials 1 and 2, respectively). The wethers, equipped with ruminal, abomasal and ileal cannulae, were randomly allotted for each trial to the following treatments: 1) hay alone or hay supplemented with 2) .9% urea, 3) 1% urea and 6.5% molasses or 4) 1% urea and 5.2% corn. Two digestive flow markers were used: Cr2O3 powder and Co-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Co-EDTA). Urea and Co-EDTA were infused continuously into the rumen via cannula. Daily dry matter (DM) intake averaged 517 g. Urea supplementation improved N retention (P less than .01). Apparent digestibility of DM, acid detergent fiber (ADF) and energy was not affected by treatment. Urea and carbohydrate supplementation increased ruminal propionic acid molar proportions (P less than .05). Apparent ruminal DM digestion accounted for 41% of the total DM degraded, whereas 77.4% of the digestible ADF was degraded in the rumen. Urea supplementation increased ADF digestion in the large intestine (P less than .01). Urea and carbohydrate supplementation resulted in a stepwise increase in N flowing with the liquid phase at the abomasum. Mean retention times of the solid and liquid phases of digestive contents were similar across treatments. Overall, benefits of supplementation of poor-quality fescue hay diets by small amounts of urea and readily available carbohydrates remain questionable for sheep fed at a fixed level of intake below maintenance.  相似文献
