House crows (Corvus splendens) in Selangor, Malaysia were examined for the presence of Campylobacter species, Salmonella species, Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae by serology, culture and pcr. For the detection of Campylobacter and Salmonella species swabs were taken either from the intestine or cloaca. For the detection of mycoplasmas, swabs were taken either from the choanal cleft or trachea for culture and pcr and serum samples were tested by the rapid serum agglutination (rsa) and monoclonal antibody-blocking elisa (mbelisa) for antibodies to M gallisepticum and M synoviae. For campylobacter, 25.3 per cent of the crows were positive by culture, and the species identified were Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli. No Salmonella species were isolated. Four of 24 swabs were positive for M gallisepticum dna but none gave positive results for M synoviae dna. No M gallisepticum or M synoviae antibodies were detected by rsa but 60 per cent of the sera gave positive reactions for M gallisepticum and 13 per cent gave positive reactions for M synoviae by mbelisa. 相似文献

This study explores the characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) in swine and their human handlers in a convenience sample of 35 farms in Connecticut. Husbandry practices are clearly different from better‐known concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) with less intensive rearing conditions. Nasal samples were collected from 263 pigs and nine humans on 35 farms during the 2010 rearing season. Samples were analysed using established microbiology methods, and resulting methicillin‐sensitive (MSSA) and resistant (MRSA) isolates were typed by pulsed‐field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and spa typing. PCR was used to detect the presence of the Panton‐Valentine Leukocidin (PVL) gene, a cytotoxin usually associated with CA‐MRSA infection. A farm assessment form and questionnaire were used to obtain the information about husbandry practices and human exposure risk, respectively. Staphylococcus aureus colonized swine and humans were found in 51% (18/35) of the farms sampled at a rate of 30% (85/259) and 22% (2/9), respectively. Eight pigs and two humans were MRSA positive on five farms. MRSA in swine was related to healthcare‐associated (HA), community‐associated (CA) or livestock‐associated (LA) MRSA strains, whereas humans were colonized with HA‐MRSA. On the basis of spa typing, there was evidence of human–animal transmission thereby signifying humanosis/reverse zoonoses. The PVL gene was found in 88% (7/8) of MRSA swine isolates, the first time this gene has been seen in colonized pigs sampled on US farm. MSSA isolates belonged to six spa types: t337 (41%), t034 (12%), t334 (12%), t4529 (12%), t8760 (18%) and t1166 (6%) including LA strains. This is the first time spa type t8760 has been reported and the only MSSA with the PVL gene. In summary, MRSA including LA strains (LA‐MRSA) can be found on small farms with different husbandry practices from CAFOs, suggesting that preventive measures for zoonotic MRSA infection should address a range of animal production. 相似文献

This study was done to evaluate the microbial contamination by Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, fecal coliforms, and total aerobic count of the stick wound of swine carcasses. The effectiveness of trimming the stick wound in the 2 Québec slaughterhouses visited was evaluated. A bacteriological analysis was done on 276 stick wounds. Results indicated that, before trimming, 0.9% stick wounds were contaminated by Salmonella spp. Contamination by coliforms was observed in 40.6% of samples, and 27.7% were positive for E. coli. After trimming the stick wounds, 1.1% were contaminated by Salmonella spp., 34.1% were contaminated by coliforms, and 26.2% were positive for E. coli. The results showed that trimming contributes to reducing significantly the bacterial total count at the site and that the bacterial load at this site was less important than that found on the brisket. 相似文献

Summary Numerous epidemiological reports implicate foods of animal origin as vehicles of human campylobacteriosis. Pigs are probably an important reservoir of campylobacter and a potential source of human infection. In order to improve our knowledge of the epidemiology of campylobacter in pigs, the prevalence of campylobacter and its contamination of feed were monitored in eight pig farms. Faeces samples of pigs aged 11 and 22 weeks, and samples of rectal, ileal and gastric content at a slaughterhouse were collected for bacteriological examination. On 5 farms, subsequent groups of pigs housed in the same stalls was sampled, too. A selection of the campylobacter isolates was characterized with a genetic typing method (RFLP). More than 85% of the sampled porkers were shown to be intestinal carriers of campylobacter at all stages of fattening. Subsequent groups of pigs housed in the same stalls were all carriers, too. The level of campylobacters in the faeces tended to decrease as the pigs got older. There was no difference in the frequency and level of infection with campylobacter between porkers on different farms. The feeding system (wet feed versus dry pellets) did not seem to influence the prevalence of campylobacter although wet feed gave lower counts of Enterobacteriaceae in the faeces. RFLP‐typing showed a high diversity of campylobacter strains at each sampling on the farm. Similarities were seen between strains isolated during two subsequent samplings of the same group of pigs, but not between strains isolated on the same farm from subsequent groups of pigs housed in the same stall. Prevalence of thermophilic Campylobacter infections in humans, chickens and crows was determined in a cross-sectional study that was carried out in urban and rural areas of Morogoro region, Tanzania during the period of January 2003 to December 2004. A total of 632 human stool samples, 536 cloacal swabs from local and broiler chickens and 22 intestinal contents from crows were screened for presence of thermophilic campylobacters using Skirrow's protocol. Representative Campylobacter jejuni isolates from human and chicken samples were also analysed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a definitive identification method. The overall prevalence of thermophilic campylobacters was 9.3% (95% CI: 7.2-11.9), 69.8% (95% CI: 65.7-73.6) and 72.7% (95% CI: 49.8-89.3) in humans, chickens and crows respectively. In humans, 59 thermophilic campylobacters were isolated of which 96.6% were C. jejuni and 3.4%Campylobacter coli. There was a significantly (P<0.001) higher prevalence in young individuals (16%) than in adults (7%). Of 341 isolates from chickens, 91.2% were C. jejuni and 8.8% were C. coli. A significantly (P<0.05) higher infection rate was observed in rural local chicken (76%) than in broilers (60%). In crows, of 16 isolates, 93.8% were C. jejuni and 6.2% were C. coli. Definitive identification of C. jejuni by PCR revealed positive results in 74.1% of 243 analysed isolates. Findings in this study indicate high prevalence of thermophilic campylobacters in humans, chickens and crows in Morogoro, and a higher infection rate of C. jejuni than that of C. coli in different animal species. Age of humans and location of chickens were identified as risk factors for thermophilic Campylobacter infections. Positive isolates to biochemical tests that indicated negative results on PCR indicates the additional value of PCR for definitive diagnosis of C. jejuni. 相似文献

猪囊虫病(Swine cysticercosis)又称猪囊尾蚴病,是由猪带绦虫(Taenia solium)的幼虫-猪囊尾蚴(Cysticercus cellulosae)寄生于人、猪各组织器官所引起的危害严重的人畜共患寄生虫病.猪囊虫病不仅造成养猪业的巨大损失,而且也给人体的生命安全带来严重危害.人既是囊虫的中间宿主,又是终末宿主,而且是唯一的终末宿主.囊虫在寄生过程中,产生了一整套逃避宿主免疫应答的机制,从而能在宿主体内长期存活,可以存活十几年甚至数十年而无任何临床症状.本文试将囊虫病的流行病学、生活史做较详尽的阐述,以期广大兽医工作者对该病有进一步的认识,达到预防和控制囊虫病的目的. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Arcobacter spp. on chicken carcasses at different stages of broiler processing in a major commercial poultry processing plant in central Iran. Overall, 80 chicken carcasses were sampled from 5 sites along the processing line during a total of 10 visits. When the culture method was used, 185 of 400 (46.3%) carcasses were positive for Arcobacter. Arcobacter butzleri was more frequently isolated (82.7%) than Arcobacter cryaerophilus (12.4%) and Arcobacter skirrowii (4.9%). The frequency of Arcobacter spp. on carcasses was 36.3% before defeathering, 41.3% after defeathering, 48.8% after evisceration, 67.5% at 20 min postchilling, and 37.5% at 24 h postchilling. The frequency of Arcobacter spp.-positive carcasses was reduced in completely chilled chickens, but not during the slaughtering process. The PCR assay identified 57 Arcobacter-contaminated carcass samples that were negative when using the culture method. When the PCR method was used, the frequently of Arcobacter spp. on carcasses was 43.8% before defeathering, 45.0% after defeathering, 55.0% after evisceration, 88.8% at 20 min postchilling, and 85.7% at 24 h postchilling. Therefore, there was a high prevalence of Arcobacter spp., especially A. butzleri, in poultry carcasses. The effects of concurrent cage contamination with Salmonella typhimurium and Eimeria tenella on the establishment of salmonella infection in day-old chickens were investigated. Chickens were divided into five groups: uninfected recipient birds placed in a cage contaminated by donor birds infected with E. tenella and S. typhimurium; E. tenella-infected recipients placed in a cage contaminated by S. typhimurium-infected donors; uninfected recipients placed in a cage contaminated by S. typhimurium-infected donors; E. tenella-infected recipients placed in a cage contaminated by uninfected donors; and uninfected recipients placed in a cage contaminated by uninfected donors. Three identical trials were conducted. Recipient birds were necropsied 4, 7, and 11 days after caging. In the cage where donor birds infected with both organisms had been reared, S. typhimurium counts in feces and number of feces positive for S. typhimurium were significantly (P less than 0.05) greater than those in the other cages on days 0, 4, and 7 after caging. Moreover, in this cage, more chicks died, counts of S. typhimurium in cecal contents were greater, and more birds were positive for S. typhimurium than in the other groups. This suggests that S. typhimurium infection in day-old chickens is enhanced in cages contaminated with E. tenella and S. typhimurium compared with infection in cages contaminated with S. typhimurium alone. 相似文献

Background
The impact of salmonella contaminated feed ingredients on the risk for spreading salmonella to pigs was assessed in response to two incidences when salmonella was spread by feed from two feed mills to 78 swine producing herds.Methods
The assessment was based on results from the salmonella surveillance of feed ingredients before introduction to feed mills and from HACCP - based surveillance of the feed mills. Results from the mills of the Company (A) that produced the salmonella contaminated feed, were by the Chi. Square test compared to the results from all the other (B - E) feed producers registered in Sweden. Isolated serovars were compared to serovars from human cases of salmonellosis.Results
Salmonella (28 serovars) was frequently isolated from imported consignments of soybean meal (14.6%) and rape seed meal (10.0%). Company A largely imported soybean meal from crushing plants with a history of unknown or frequent salmonella contamination. The risk for consignments of vegetable proteins to be salmonella contaminated was 2.4 times (P < 0.0006) larger for A when compared to the mills of the other companies which largely were supplied by soybean meal from a crushing plant with a low risk for salmonella contamination. Also the level of feed mill contamination of salmonella was higher for feed mills belonging to Company A in comparison to the other companies before and also after heat treatment. Four (10.5%) of the 38 serovars isolated from feed ingredients (28) and feed mills (10) were on the EU 2007 top ten list of human cases of salmonellosis and all but eight (78.9%) on a 12 year list (1997-2008) of cases of human salmonellosis in Sweden.Conclusions
Salmonella contaminated feed ingredients are an important source for introducing salmonella into the feed and food chain. Effective HACCP-based control and associated corrective actions are required to prevent salmonella contamination of feed. Efforts should be taken to prevent salmonella contamination already at the crushing plants. This is challenge for the EU - feed industry due to the fact that 98% of the use of soybean/meal, an essential feed ingredient, is imported from crushing plants of third countries usually with an unknown salmonella status. 相似文献17.
Salmonella contamination is a major problem in the poultry industry, but no data are available on the prevalence in geese. From two slaughter facilities in Manitoba, 130 carcass rinsings and 315 cloacal swabs from a total of 17 flocks of domestic geese were examined for salmonellae. Sixty percent of the carcass rinsings and 18.4% of the cloacal swabs were positive. Most of the isolates were serotyped, and some analysis of the results is presented. Three culture media were compared, and a modified dulcitol brilliant-green novobiocin medium was found to be more selective than brilliant-green and brilliant-green sulfa agars. 相似文献

Rinse fluids collected from eight different lots of commercially processed broiler carcasses were cultured for salmonellae by a meat probable number method. Most probable number values of 80 or less were obtained from all carcasses in three of the eight lots, but two lots contained carcasses which yielded more than 1000 salmonellae. Similar numbers of salmonellae were recovered in repeated rinses of the same carcasses, suggesting that only a small proportion of the total population was recovered in each rinse. Five lots originated from flocks of known Salmonella status. More salmonella were recovered from carcasses which originated from flocks infected in the first week of life than from flocks infected at a later date. Carcasses from a flock which was processed immediately after a contaminated flock yielded more salmonellae than carcasses processed at the beginning of the day in a clean plant. 相似文献

Three dressing practices were assessed in traditional lamb carcass dressing systems for their ability to improve control of microbiological and visible contamination. The routine removal of a piece of skin from the perineal area reduced total aerobic plate counts and Escherichia coli counts on carcasses derived from both woolly and shorn groups of lambs. Similar results were found when the "Y-cut" was delayed in the dressing sequence, but E. coli counts increased slightly in one group. The use of a wide-blow shear prior to the opening cut on the hindleg of carcasses derived from woolly lambs resulted in a slight increase in the microbiological contamination on the leg. The removal of a piece of skin from the perineal area reduced scores for faecal contamination despite a small increase in contamination with wool. Changes in visible contamination in response to the two other dressing procedures were principally effected through changes in levels of contamination with wool. Irrespective of dressing procedures, levels of microbiological and visible contamination were lower on carcasses derived from shorn compared with woolly lambs. These studies demonstrated that, although they are reasonable indicators, the use of parameters of visible contamination as a measure of carcass hygiene must be treated with caution. This is especially the case if a genuine HACCP-based system for the control of dressing hygiene for a particular class of slaughtered livestock is to be implemented. 相似文献
