This paper reports on the preparation and characterization of nanofibers and nanofiber/film composites fabricated by electrospinning and dip-coating. The polymers in this study consist of polyurethane, nylon-6, and silicone. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fiber distribution, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and tensile tests were conducted. The electrospun nylon-6 nanofiber/dip-coated silicone film (dried for 5 min) showed the optimum tensile strength and strain results, showing an increase in tensile strength of 63 % compared to pure nylon-6 nanofiber alone. XRD and FTIR verified the presence of individual polymers in the composite matrix. The electrospun PU nanofiber produced the biggest fiber diameter, while electrospun nylon-6, and PU/nylon-6 produced uniform fiber diameters, with PU/nylon-6 obtaining very random and curved fiber morphology.  相似文献

Electrically conductive nanofibers were fabricated from elastic polyurethane (PU) and PU/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanocomposite by electrospinning method. The nanocomposites were electrospun at various MWCNTs loading. Electron microscopy was used to investigate nanofibers morphology and dispersion of MWCNTs in the electrospun nanofibers. The results showed that the presence of the MWCNTs promoted the creation of fibrous structures in comparison with the PU without MWCNTs. On the other hand, increasing the MWCNTs content resulted in a slight increase in the average fiber diameter. TEM micrographs and mechanical properties of the electrospun mats indicated that the homogeneous dispersion of MWCNTs throughout PU matrix is responsible for the considerable enhancement of mechanical properties of the nanofiber mats. Electrical behavior of the conductive mats was also studied, in view of possible sensor applications. Cyclic experiments were conducted to establish whether the electrical properties were reversible, which is an important requirement for sensor materials.  相似文献

Composites consisting of polyurethane (PU)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been successfully prepared by solution mixing method. CNTs were modified through mechano-chemical reaction to increase the compatibility with PU via hydrogen bondings. SEM microphotographs proved that modified CNTs (M-CNTs) became shorter and FTIR spectra showed that hydroxyl groups had been introduced to the surface of M-CNTs. SEM images of PU/M-CNTs composites also proved that M-CNTs were effectively dispersed in PU matrix. Mechanical property tests showed that addition of M-CNTs could significantly improve the tensile properties of PU/M-CNTs composite (breaking strength enhancement ratio for composite with 5.0 wt% M-CNTs was 103.81 %). The thermal stability of composites with M-CNTs was also improved. The initial degradation temperature enhancement was 19.9 oC for the composite with 0.5 wt% M-CNTs. Electrical property tests showed that the electrical properties were improved by adding M-CNTs. The volume conductivities increased 3 and 5 orders of magnitude for the composites with 5.0 wt% and 10 wt% M-CNTs, respectively. The addition of M-CNTs had little effect on the elastic properties of the composites.  相似文献

The effects of chemical treatment on the mechanical, morphological, and chemical resistance properties of uniaxial natural fabrics, Grewia tilifolia/epoxy composites, were studied. In order to enhance the interfacial bonding between the epoxy matrix and the Grewia tilifolia fabrics, two different types of treatment: alkali treatment (5 % NaOH) and (3-aminopropyl)-triethoxysilane coupling agent (CA), were used. The epoxy composites containing 0–15 wt% of Grewia tilifolia fabric were prepared by hand lay-up technique, at room temperature. The tensile and flexural properties of the untreated, alkali-treated and coupling agent treated Grewia tilifolia reinforced epoxy composites were determined as a function of fabric loading. The 9 % wt Grewia tilifolia fabric reinforced epoxy composites showed improved tensile and flexural modulii when compared to the neat epoxy matrix. Significant improvement in the mechanical properties was obtained when both alkali and coupling agent treated fabrics were used as reinforcement. Morphological studies demonstrated that better adhesion between the fabrics and the matrix was achieved especially when the alkali-treated and coupling agent treated Grewia tilifolia fabrics were used in the composites. For the water absorption and chemical resistance studies, various solvents, acids and alkalis were used on the epoxy composites. This study has shown that Grewia tilifolia fabric/epoxy composites are promising candidates for structural applications, where high strength and stiffness are required.  相似文献

The aim of this research is to investigate the development and evaluation of hybrid multi-scale aramid/epoxy composites interleaved with electrospun graphene nanoplatelets/nylon 66 (GNPs/PA66) mats. The reinforced nanofiber mats were explored for their best mechanical properties and PA66 nanofibers with 1 wt% GNPs were selected for composite production. Quasi-static indentation tests were performed on both pristine and nanofiber-modified composites. The experimental results revealed that the introduction of reinforced interleaves within the interlaminar interfaces of composites promotes fracture toughness compared to pristine interleaves. It is shown that there is a particular interleaf thickness for optimum toughening effect of nanofibers. The optimum thicknesses for pristine and reinforced interleaves are 35 and 17.5 μm, respectively.  相似文献

A study on the tensile and flexural properties of jute-glass-carbon fibers reinforced epoxy hybrid composites in inter-ply configuration is presented in this paper. Test specimens were manufactured by hand lay-up process and their tensile and flexural properties were obtained. The effects of the hybridization, different fibers content and plies stacking sequence on the mechanical properties of the tested hybrid composites were investigated. Two-parameter Weibull distribution function was used to statistically analyze the experimental results. The failure probability graphs for the tested composites were drawn. These graphs are important tools for helping the designers to understand and choose the suitable material for the required design and development. Results showed that the hybridization process can potentially improve the tensile and flexural properties of jute reinforced composite. The flexural strength decreases when partial laminas from a carbon/epoxy laminate are replaced by glass/epoxy or jute/epoxy laminas. Also, it is realized that incorporating high strength fibers to the outer layers of the composite leads to higher flexural resistance, whilst the order of the layers doesn’t affect the tensile properties.  相似文献

The basalt chopped fiber reinforced epoxy composites using different curing systems were prepared in order to investigate the thermal characteristics of the composites. 2 different curing systems for bisphenol F type epoxy resin — an epoxy-amine curing system and an epoxy-anhydride curing system — were selected and used to investigate the interaction between matrix resin and basalt fiber in the means of thermal properties and physical properties. Through the evaluation of T g and thermal degradation behavior of both systems, it was deduced that the type of curing system as well as basalt fiber reinforcement have a great role in determining thermal properties of the composites. Also, the tensile and flexural properties of the composites were systematically evaluated in order to further understand the effect of curing agents on the interaction with basalt fiber.  相似文献

In this study, we describe the preparation and characterization of electrospun Nylon66 composite nanofibers incorporated with carbon nanotubes (CNT) fillers and silver nanoparticles. We have incorporated the composites in to Nylon66 nanofibers to enhance the characteristics of the resultant composite nanofibers. The resultant composite nanofibers were characterized by using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and current-voltage (I–V) measurement analysis. The morphology of the composite nanofibers exhibited densely arranged mesh-like ultrafine nanofibers which were strongly bound in between the main fibers. From I–V characteristics, it was observed that the incorporation of CNT fillers and Ag nanoparticles in to electrospun Nylon66 composite nanofibers can be significantly enhanced the electrical properties.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of boron nitride nano particle (BNNP) and/or carbon nanotube (CNT) adding for epoxy modification upon tensile, flexural and shear properties of epoxy resin and carbon fiber (CF) laminated nanocomposites were investigated. Epoxy based polymer nanocomposites were prepared by conventional casting in stainless steel mold and the CF/epoxy laminated nanocomposites were produced via vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). Experimental results showed that the tensile, shear and flexural properties of epoxy nanocomposites and CF/epoxy laminated nanocomposites considerably increased by adding nanoparticle. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was utilized in order to determine damage formation of experimented nanocomposite samples. The results of laboratory tests showed that the highest values of mechanical properties were obtained for BNNP-CNT hybrid nanocomposite specimens. Bending stiffness increasement values of BNNP-CNT/Epoxy and BNNP-CNT-Epoxy/CF achieved by 27.5 %, and 38.5 %, respectively. Shear strength increasement for BNNP-CNT/Epoxy and BNNP-CNT-Epoxy/CF were determined by 23 %, and 90 %, respectively.  相似文献

The graphene oxide (GO) sheets are chemically grafted with γ-etheroxygentrimethoxysilane (KH560) and liquid crystalline epoxy (LCE) is synthesized from 4,4′-bis(2-hydroxyhexoxy)biphenyl (BP2) and epichlorohydrin before being incorporated into epoxy matrix. Then we present a novel approach to the fabrication of advanced polymer composites from epoxy matrix by incorporation of two modifiers, which are grafted GO (g-GO) and LCE. The mechanical properties of epoxy composites are greatly improved by incorporating LCE/g-GO hybrid fillers. For instance, the addition of 3 wt% hybrid filler (2 wt% g-GO and 1 wt% LCE) into the epoxy matrix resulted in the increases in impact strength by 132.6 %, tensile strength by 27.6 % and flexural strength by 37.5 %. Moreover, LCE/g-GO hybrid fillers are effective to increase thermal decomposition temperature, glass transition temperature, and storage modulus by strong affinity between the fillers and epoxy matrix.  相似文献

Nanoparticles are gaining wider importance and increasing utility in many areas of engineering and technology. This investigative work is conducted to study the effect of incorporating basalt nano particles in composites with basalt/basalt and basalt/jute woven structures as reinforcement. The nanoparticles were developed from basalt, they were characterized and used for reinforcing composites of basalt and jute hybrid fabrics. The mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of hybrid woven basalt reinforced epoxy composites were evaluated. Microscopic examination was carried out in order to analyze the internal structure and fractured surfaces. Interfacial characteristics, material morphology and failure was studied by use of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and optical microscopy. Thermal stability was characterized by TGA. The results elaborated that the incorporation of basalt nanoparticles exhibited superior properties compared to the pure epoxy resin impregnated basalt fabric reinforced composites in terms of mechanical and thermal stability.  相似文献

Composites based on pure Basalt and Basalt/Jute fabrics were fabricated. The mechanical properties of the composites such as flexural modulus, tensile modulus and impact strength were measured depending upon weave, fiber contents and resin. Dynamic mechanical analysis of all composites were done. From the results it is found that pure basalt fiber combination maintains higher values in all mechanical tests. Thermo-gravimetric (TG/DTG) composites showed that thermal degradation temperatures of composites shifted to higher temperature regions compared to pure jute fabrics. Addition of basalt fiber improved the thermal stability of the composite considerably. Scanning electron microscopic images of tensile fractured composite samples illustrated that better fiber-matrix interfacial interaction occurred in hybrid composites. The thermal conductivity of composites are also investigated and thermal model is used to check their correlation.  相似文献

Polymer matrix composites (PMCs) owing to their outstanding properties such as high strength, low weight, high thermal stability and chemical resistance are broadly utilized in various industries. In the present work, the influence of silanized CaCO3 (S-CaCO3) with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (3-APTMS) coupling agent at different values (0, 1, 3 and 5 wt.% with respect to the matrix) on the mechanical behavior of basalt fibers (BF)/epoxy composites was examined. BF-reinforced composites were fabricated via hand lay-up technique. Experimental results from three-point bending and tensile tests showed that with the dispersion of 3 wt.% S-CaCO3, flexural strength, flexural modulus, tensile strength and tensile modulus enhanced by 28 %, 35 %, 20 % and 30 %, respectively. Microscopic examinations revealed that the development of the mechanical properties of fibrous composites with the incorporation of modified CaCO3 was related to enhancement in the load transfer between the nanocomposite matrix and BF as well as enhanced mechanical properties of the matrix part.  相似文献

In this study, a new approach consisting of chemical treatment steps followed by electrospinning process was applied to produce cellulose nanofibers from wheat straws. Wheat straws were initially pretreated by NaOH solution to open the complex structure of raw materials and remove non-cellulosic materials. Then, acid and alkali hydrolysis was separately performed to eliminate hemicellulose and soluble lignin. Also, bleaching processes were implemented to remove the insoluble lignin. Cellulose nanofibers were produced by electrospinning of various concentrations of cellulose in different solvents including sodium hydroxide/urea/thiourea, pure trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), and TFA/methylene chloride. Images obtained by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) showed long and uniform nanofibers produced from electrospinning of cellulose/TFA/methylene chloride solution. An epoxy based laminated composite was prepared by a lamina of cellulose microfiber and electrospun nanofiber mat using hand lay-up composite manufacturing method. The fracture surface of the epoxy nanocomposite was analyzed by SEM images. In addition, the mechanical properties of laminated epoxy composites were compared with pure epoxy by conducting tensile and impact tests. Tensile test results showed that the ultimate tensile strength, elongation, and modulus of laminated epoxy nanocomposites were significantly increased. Moreover, it was found that by adding a nanofiber lamina in the epoxy composite, the impact resistance was significantly improved as a result of crack growth prevention.  相似文献

Glass fiber, GF, which was first hydroxylated and silanized, was incorporated into epoxy resin modified with amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer (ATHBP) to obtain high performance composite. The effects of GFs content on the mechanical properties of composites were investigated, discussing the results from flexural, tensile, and impact tests. The composites revealed noticeable improvement in flexural strength, tensile strength as well as impact strength but slow decrease in elongation at break, compared to the epoxy/ATHBP thermoset. FESEM morphology results indicated the good compatibility between epoxy matrix and GF in the appearance of ATHBP and showed that the toughening mechanism was mainly attributed to the stress transfer mechanism.  相似文献

To improve interfacial adhesion between carbon fiber and epoxy resin, the epoxy matrix is modified with N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropylmethyldimethoxysilane (YDH602) and N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (YDH792), respectively. And the effect of matrix modification on the mechanical performance of carbon/epoxy composites is investigated in terms of tensile, flexural and interlaminar properties. The flexural properties indicate that the optimum concentration of silane coupling agents YDH602 and YDH792 for the matrix modification is approximately 0.5 wt% of the epoxy resin system, and the mechanical properties of the YDH792-modified epoxy composites is better than that of the YDH602-modified epoxy composites at the same concentration. Compared to unmodified epoxy composite, the incorporation of 0.5 wt% YDH792 results in an increase of 4, 44 and 42 % in tensile, flexural and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) values of the carbon/epoxy composite, respectively, while the corresponding enhancement of tensile and flexural modulus is 3 and 15 %. These improvements in mechanical properties can be considered to be an indication of better fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion as confirmed by SEM micrographs of the fracture surface after interlaminar shear testing. The viscosity of the modified epoxy resin system can be reduced by incorporation of silane coupling agent YDH792, which is beneficial for fiber impregnation or wetting during liquid composite molding process.  相似文献

Sansevieria (genus) cylindrica (species) belongs to Agavaceae family plant fiber first time used as a reinforcing agent in the epoxy system. Fibre extracted from leaves, fairly lesser density, porosity, higher strength to weight ratio (hereafter called SCF) and these fibers were alkali-treated and yet impregnated on the epoxy system using wet hand lay up technique in order to compare with untreated fiber on performance. DMA, TGA, DSC, FTIR, SEM, degradation temperature, flexural and tensile tests were performed for untreated and alkali-treated epoxy composites using different SCF volumes viz. 1 vol.%, 5 vol.%, 7 vol.% and 9 vol.%. Alkali treated fibre were found to have higher initial and final degradation temperatures and flexural and tensile strength. The removal of the amorphous hemi-cellulose on alkali treatment was played an instrumental in improving properties. A 3 °C increase in glass transition temperature and decomposition temperature were recorded respectively and over all treated SCF composites reinforced on the epoxy were shown significant results than untreated. Storage modulus and tan ?? were observed well at 9 vol.% treated SCF while flexural and tensile were increased by 35 and 13 % for SCF treated composites respectively.  相似文献

Though the tensile strength of nanofibers is essential to determine their application fields, few studies have been conducted on this topic, due to the difficulties involved in the preparation of single nanofiber tensile specimens, the manipulation of the clamping device, and the sensing of the nano- force and strain. A bundle testing method was employed in this work to measure the tensile strength of nanofibers. For this purpose, a conductive substrate was designed to hold several thousand nanofibers extruded from a spinning nozzle and align them uniaxially during the electrospinning process. This substrate was designed for a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), because most DMAs are equipped with fine sensors sensitive enough to measure a very small force and strain. Nylon 6 nanofibers were electrospun and collected on the substrate. Then, they were elongated simultaneously in the DMA until they were fractured, showing that the aligned nanofibers have superior tensile strength and modulus compared to their counterpart microfibers and thus suggesting that polymeric nanofibers have the potential to be used as reinforcement fibers for composite materials.  相似文献

The introduction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into conventional fiber to construct a hierarchical structure in polymer composites has attracted great interest owing to their merits of performance improvement and multiple functionalities. However, there is a challenge for realizing the scalable preparation of the multi-scale CNT-glass fiber (CNTGF) reinforcements in practical application. In this work, we present a simple and continuous method of the mass production of multiscale CNT-glass fiber (CNT-GF) reinforcements. Scanning electron microscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis indicated ~1.0 wt% CNTs were highly dispersed on the whole fiber surface through a facile surfactant-assisted process. Such hybrid CNT-GF fillers were found to effectively enhance the stiffness, strength and impact resistance of polypropylene polymer. Increased storage modulus, glass transition temperature and crystallization temperature of the composites filled with the CNT-GF fillers were also observed in the differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis compared with the composites containing the pristine GF fillers. Fracture surface analysis revealed enhanced interfacial quality between CNT-GF and matrix, which is likely responsible for improved performance of the hierarchical polymer composites.  相似文献

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/biomedical polyurethane (BPU) composite nanofibers with modulated mechanical properties are electrospun by varying the weight ratios of PET and BPU polymers in the mixture. The effect of BPU content on the morphology, porosity, thermal properties, and crystalline structures are systematically investigated. It is shown that uniform PET/BPU nanofibers can be formed through optimization. When the content of BPU is low (0?C7 %), better elongation of the nanofibrous mats is obtained with the increase of BPU content, whereas further increasing the BPU polymer (up to 15 %) results in a decreased breaking elongation as well as the mechanical strength of composites. The formed nanofibrous mats may find potential applications in tissue engineering and vascular graft.  相似文献
