ABSTRACT

Common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) is an important legume cultivated for feed grain and forage in the Mediterranean and Central Asia regions. Little information is available about the changes in seed mass, chemical composition, and mineral concentration in the developing seeds of common vetch. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to study the changes in seed mass, moisture content, fat, fiber, proteins, carbohydrates, reducing sugars, and macro- and microelements in common vetch seeds sampled at four pod developmental stages described based on pod color. Common vetch pods were harvested at four pod developmental stages: 1) full-size seed (FS), 2) greenish-yellow pods (GY), 3) yellow pods (Y), and 4) brown pods (B). Common vetch seeds attained maximum mass accumulation when pod color turned to yellow (the Y stage), which was a good indication of seed physiological maturity in common vetch. Results showed that ash, fat, fiber, protein, and carbohydrate content increased between the FS and GY stage. There was no significant change in the accumulation of these components at the Y stage as compared with the GY stage. During the desiccation phase (the Y to B stage), there was an increase in carbohydrate and reducing sugars and a decrease in proteins. Seed content (μg seed?1) of macro- and microelements levels increased as the seed matured, reaching the maximum level by the GY stage [for phosphorus (P), sodium (Na), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn)], the Y stage [for copper (Cu)], and the B stage [for potassium (K) and iron (Fe)]. These results suggest that the majority of seed chemical composition was accumulated by the GY stage where farmers can harvest common vetch seed without reducing seed mass and nutrient loss. These data serve as a useful characterization of changes in chemical composition based on pod developmental stages for further studies.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Cover crops improve the recovery and recycling of nitrogen and impart weed suppression in crop production. A two-year study with six weekly plantings of cover crops including non-winterkilled species (hairy vetch, Vicia villosa L.; winter rye Secale cereale L.) and winterkilled species (oat, Avena sativa L.; forage radish, Raphanus sativus L.) were assessed for effects on growth of forage rape (Brassica napus L.) and weed suppression. Early planting of cover crops gave the highest biomass and highest nitrogen accumulation. Delaying planting from early-September to mid-October suppressed cover-crop biomass by about 40%. Forage radish produced more biomass in the fall than other cover crops but was winter killed. Spring biomass was highest with rye or vetch. All cover crops suppressed weeds, but suppression was greatest under rye or hairy vetch. Hairy vetch accumulated the largest nitrogen content. Forage rape plants yielded more biomass after a cover crop than after no-cover crop.  相似文献

The assemblages of microbial (bacteria and fungi), microfaunal (protozoa and nematodes) and mesofaunal (microarthropods) populations were studied in decomposing root residues from hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth) and rye (Secale cereale L.) in a litterbag field experiment. Litterbags containing vetch or rye root residues were buried in soil at the same day as either vetch or rye winter catch crops were incorporated into the field soil from which the materials were gathered. The litterbags were sampled after 6 weeks in the field. In vetch, bacterial and fungal biomasses were similar whereas fungi dominated microbial biomass in rye. The biomass of the bacterial consuming fauna dominated by nematodes and microarthropods was similar to the biomass of bacteria in vetch as opposed to in rye where bacterivore biomass was lower than bacterial biomass. This suggests a much higher bacterial production in vetch compared to rye. Furthermore, in vetch dauer larvae of bacteria feeding nematodes prevailed, which is also a sign of high bacterial production followed by food shortage for the bacterivores. Bacterivorous and predatory nematodes with capability of consuming protozoa showed an inverse relationship to flagellated protozoa. This suggests that these nematodes controlled the protozoan biomass constituting a lower fraction of the bacterivore biomass in vetch compared to in rye. Such intraguild predator-prey relationship is therefore indicated for microbivorous organisms among bacterivorous and predatory nematodes (the intraguild predator) protozoa (the intraguild prey) and bacteria (the common prey). The much higher fungal biomass in rye than in vetch litterbags was not reflected in the biomass of the fungal feeders. Due to the generally lower intrinsic rate of increase of the fungivores, as well as of the omnivores and predators, in comparison with the bacterial feeders, they were not able to generate dense populations at this early stage of decomposition.  相似文献

Traditional Mediterranean rainfed cereal/fallow systems are being replaced by cereal monoculture due to land-use pressure. Food or forage legumes in rotation with cereals are an alternative sustainable cropping system. Complex cropping systems can only be assessed by long-term trials. This 11-year rainfed barley-based rotation trial in northern Syria assessed rotation effects on yields of barley and legumes, with particular emphasis on the management of vetch. The mean order of barley grain yields from the rotations was: vetch for hay, vetch for grazing > fallow = medic = vetch for seed > lentil, and continuous barley. Straw yields followed a similar pattern. Nitrogen (60 kg ha?1) increased grain (39%) and straw (65%) yields. The N fertilization of barley had no carryover effect on the alternative legume crops. Although there were no significant differences in seed or straw yield between lentil and vetch, seasonal rainfall influenced overall yields. Total biomass yields were in the order of vetch, medic and lentil. There is a compelling case for annual vetch paired with barley in rotations for the Mediterranean region. Thus, barley/vetch rotations can potentially enhance barley yields and improve soil quality, and provide valuable fodder for small ruminants as well in the region's agricultural systems.  相似文献

Triticale (Triticosecale Wittmack) grown with legume has a better forage quality and greater yield potential than triticale grown alone. The objective of the study was to determine the suitable mixture rate of legume and triticale grown under the rainfed conditions in the northeast of Turkey. Field experiments, designed in a factorial randomized complete block with three replications, were carried out during 1998–1999 and 1999–2000 starting in the first week of November, 1998 and 1999. The highest dry matter yield (10.96 t ha?1) was obtained from the mixture including 50% Hungarian vetch (Vicia pannonica Crantz.) and 50% triticale (Triticosecale Wittmack). Decreasing the seed rate of triticale in mixtures decreased dry matter yield while it increased the crude protein concentration of the hay mixture. The mixtures of 50% grasspea line 38 (Lathyrus sativus L.) and 50% triticale (Triticosecale Wittmack) and 50% hairy vetch and 50% triticale produced the highest seed and crude protein yield. Similarly, 50% Hungarian vetch (Vicia pannonica Crantz.) and 50% triticale (Triticosecale Wittmack) mixture produced the highest crude fiber and ash yield. Pure hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth.) and grasspea line 38 (Lathyrus sativus L.) yielded the maximum amount of NO3 ? -N to soil, and the highest plant concentration of crude protein, respectively. Downy mildew (Peronospora viciae (Berk) de Bary) is an important disease of vetches (Vicia spp.) in the Mediterranean Region. Narbon and common vetch germplasm accessions originating from different countries, and advanced breeding narbon vetch genotypes, were evaluated for reaction to downy mildew for two seasons under field conditions. In narbon vetch, there were resistant sources from both germplasm accessions and advanced genotypes. From the germplasm accessions, 25 accessions were resistant while from the advanced breeding genotypes, 10 had resistance, with 2–3 ratings. In common vetch, many accessions were highly resistant to downy mildew. These were widely distributed in different countries, mainly Turkey, Italy, Syria and Iran. In general, common vetch had higher sources of resistance than the narbon vetch accessions. These new sources of resistance to downy mildew will be incorporated into the forage legume improvement project in a continuous effort to identify cultivars suitable for replacing fallow in the cereal-based cropping systems.  相似文献

Climate change has emerged as a major concern for crop production. This study used a field experiment to examine the differential yield responses of barley, lentil, common vetch, and bitter vetch to weather in the Mediterranean region. Crops were grown in a 10-year rotation trial in Lebanon. Precipitation and temperature were used as explanatory variables in simple linear correlation and standardized multiple-regression analyses. Grain yields were not correlated with annual precipitation. Barley grain yield was correlated positively with precipitation from March to May (r = 0.70) and the rainfall distribution index (r = 0.71), but negatively with mean May temperature (r = –0.62) and absolute minimum temperature in January (r = –0.91). Unlike barley, legume grain yield was not correlated with any rainfall parameters. Common vetch grain yield was negatively correlated with mean May temperature (r = –0.68). Grain yield of the two vetches were also correlated negatively with the absolute minimum temperature in January, but grain yield of lentil was not correlated with any weather variable. Standardized multiple-regression analyses showed that mean May temperature had the strongest influence on grain yield of barley, lentil, and common vetch, indicating that, under climate change, higher temperature may have a more deleterious effect on grain yield than lower rainfall. The negative correlation between common vetch and barley grain yields and temperature in May suggests that early sowing to induce earlier flowering and maturity to escape the hot summer may be an option to increase common vetch and barley grain yields.  相似文献

Zinc and iron deficiencies affect billions of people globally and have direct impact on human health. Zinc and iron concentrations in plant materials are commonly analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (F-AAS). This research describes the optimal analysis method for precise zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe) analysis of seeds from the seven species of genus Lens. Estimation of Zn and Fe concentration in whole lentil seeds by F-AAS is destructive, using nitric acid digestion of seeds prior to instrument analysis. The procedure proposed for the determination of Zn and Fe concentration uses the minimum amount of lentil seed of all lentil species with suitable standard reference materials. The relative standard deviations of the method were about 5% for both Zn and Fe. The minimum sample amount 0.3 g of wild and 0.5 g of cultivated lentil seed samples was identified for accurate and precise estimation of Zn and Fe concentration.  相似文献

【目的】 本研究于大田试验条件下探究了燕麦 (Avena sativa L.)/箭筈豌豆 (Vicia sativa L.) 间作系统饲草干物质产量、土地当量比 (LER) 及氮素吸收利用等对施氮和不同间作比例的响应,以期为该地区多元化粮改饲种植模式的建立提供理论依据。 【方法】 大田试验于2012年在兰州大学庆阳黄土高原试验站进行,设不施氮 (N0) 和施氮N 46 kg/hm2 (N46) 两个氮水平,在每个氮水平下各设7个燕麦与箭筈豌豆间作比例 (1∶0、4∶1、2∶1、1∶1、1∶2、1∶4和0∶1)。于箭筈豌豆的花期和乳熟期,测定并分析了饲草的干物质产量、土地当量比及吸氮量;在花期,分析测定了箭筈豌豆的生物固氮量;在箭筈豌豆的乳熟期,分析了不同间作比例下间作系统的氮肥偏生产力 (PFPN)。 【结果】 生长至第60 d (花期) 和第90 d (乳熟期) 时,N46水平下系统的平均干物质总产量较N0水平分别提高了31.6%和24.2%;N0水平下系统的干物质产量分别在2∶1和1∶0下达到最大值,较箭筈豌豆单作分别提高了102.5%和107.9%,N46水平下分别在1∶1和4∶1下最大,较箭筈豌豆单作分别提高了103.5%和111.1%。生长至花期 (第60 d) 时,N0水平下间作系统的LER值均大于1,生长至乳熟期 (第90 d) 时,N46水平下除4∶1外均小于1。施氮后箭筈豌豆的生物固氮量降低了50.6%,燕麦的吸氮量占比平均增加了17.2%。4∶1间作比例下系统的氮肥偏生产力 (PFPN) 最大。无论施氮与否,燕麦相对于箭筈豌豆的氮素营养竞争比率 (CROV) 在4∶1间作比例下均达到最大值,之后随着箭筈豌豆种植比例的增加而呈降低趋势。 【结论】 施氮提高了间作系统中燕麦的吸氮量占比和体系干物质总产量,但降低了箭筈豌豆的固氮量。在4∶1间作比例下,系统具有较高的作物产量、土地当量比和氮肥利用效率。   相似文献

A simple method for the isolation and purification of alpha-galactosides, raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs), from legumes has been developed. The method includes (i) imbibition of seeds, (ii) extraction with 50% ethanol, (iii) precipitation of RFOs, (iv) purification of RFOs on diatomaceous earth and charcoal, and (v) cation-exchange chromatography. The described method allows one to obtain high purity RFO preparations (90% for lentil and 80% for pea seeds, determined by HPLC-RI analysis) in the form of white, fine powder. Yields of alpha-galactosides isolated from 100 g of seeds of lentil and pea were 5.6 and 4.3 g, respectively.  相似文献

A total of 125 accessions of one-flowered vetch (Vicia articulata Hornem.) mostly from the Iberian Peninsula have been analysed for total protein, L-canavanine and condensed tannins. It was observed a high variability in the composition: the protein content ranged from 18.20 to 30.07%, L-canavanine from 0.27 to 0.67%, and condensed tannins from 0.13 to 0.35%, which indicates a scarce domestication of the crop. The inclusion of the seeds into a diet to non-ruminants should be limited to marginal percentages because of the contents of L-canavanine and it suggests that a reduction of this compound by breeding should be encouraged. The protein and the L-canavanine contents showed a low and positive significant correlation (r = 0.55, P < 0.001), which complicates the selection of seeds having simultaneously low L-canavanine and high protein contents. On the other hand, no correlation between protein and condensed tannins or between L-canavanine and condensed tannins was observed. There was a poor relationship between the origin and the composition of the accessions and only the protein content was able to discriminate among the regions.  相似文献

为充分利用苏南冬闲稻田发展适宜绿肥作物种植,在大田试验条件下,研究了毛叶苕子(Vicia villosa Roth)、 光叶苕子(Vicia villosa var.)、 紫云英(Astragalus sinicus L.)和肥田萝卜(Raphanus sativus L.)4种绿肥作物的生长、 营养特性,比较分析了绿肥作物翻压前不同处理间耕层土壤无机氮含量与构成的差异。结果表明,在绿肥作物翻压期,4种绿肥作物均达到较高生物量和养分累积量,鲜重、 干重分别为24.8 30.7 t/hm2和3.6 4.2 t/hm2,不同绿肥作物间无显著差异。 4种绿肥作物的吸氮量为69.8 136.4 kg/hm2,毛叶苕子最高,肥田萝卜最低。吸磷量为7.1~11.3 kg/hm2,肥田萝卜最高,紫云英最低。吸钾量为117.6~151.3 kg/hm2,毛叶苕子最高,光叶苕子最低。与对照冬闲相比,种植绿肥作物不同程度地降低了耕层土壤无机氮含量(平均降低38.9 kg/hm2),其中硝态氮含量下降明显,铵态氮含量均较对照土壤有增加趋势(平均提高6.5 kg/hm2),毛叶苕子和光叶苕子处理铵态氮含量增加显著。4种绿肥作物均适合苏南冬闲稻田种植,能潜在降低无机氮的损失风险和为后季水稻作物生长提供养分。  相似文献

This study evaluated effects of oats (Avena sativa L.) and grazing vetch (Vicia dasycarpa L.), bicultures, in rotation with summer maize (Zea mays), on soil organic matter fractions and activities of selected enzymes. The trial was initiated in April 2009. The treatments were 100% oat, 100% vetch, 90% oat + 10% vetch, 70% oat + 30% vetch, 50% oat + 50% vetch, and weedy fallow, in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Soil samples were collected in October 2011, from the 0–5 and 5–20 cm depths, and analyzed for total carbon (C), particulate organic matter (POM), water-soluble carbon (WSC), microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and activities of selected enzymes. Total C was higher in bicultures, particularly the 70% oat + 30% vetch, and 100% vetch than in 100% oats and the control. The greatest MBC, WSC, dehydrogenase, aryl-sulphatase and phosphomonoesterase activities were in the 70% oat + 30% vetch biculture, and declined where the proportion of oats or vetch was higher. Increasing proportions of vetch resulted in increases in urease and β-glucosidase activity and decrease in POM. The findings suggested that, in addition to increased maize yields, bicultures of oats and vetch also have synergistic effects on soil carbon pools and enzyme activities, with potential benefits of improved soil physical condition and nutrient cycling compared with the individual crops, under warm temperate conditions.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to provide evidence on the effects of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) and chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) on the dynamics of soil N availability and yield parameters of wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum) in a legume–wheat rotation in comparison with the effects of the more extensively studied common vetch (Vicia sativa L.). Soil samples were taken from field plots just before wheat sowing and incubated in the laboratory to assess N mineralization potential, soil respiration and N immobilization after incorporation of legume residues. Soil after vetch cultivation showed the highest residual N and mineralization potential (120 mg N kg?1 soil), the greatest CO2 release and the smallest N immobilization. Smaller mineral N release (80 mg N kg?1 soil) was shown by soil after faba bean cultivation, which, however, would be capable to support an average wheat production without fertilization. Soil after chickpea and wheat cultivation manifested no differences in residual N and mineralization or immobilization potential. Laboratory results were well correlated with grain yield and N uptake during the second season of rotation in the field. All legumes resulted in significant yield surpluses and provided N credit to the following unfertilized wheat.  相似文献

Single-flowered vetch (Vicia articulata Hornem.), a crop native of the Mediterranean area, is widespread mainly in south Europe, in west Asia and Australia for forage, green manure and human food. In Italy this crop was still cultivated in the 1950s but, later, no records concerning its cultivation were available. This strongly suggested to place V. articulata among the Italian crop species that disappeared in the 20th century. In the course of a collecting expedition in Sardinia, a relic population, mistaken for lentil, was found. This population has been characterised from a botanical, nutritional and cytological point of view. V. articulata appears to be lower in nutritional quality than lentil. However, within the framework of a sustainable agriculture, V. articulata could find interesting opportunities. In fact, its role in soil conservation and rescue of marginal areas could be interesting, as well as its potentialities as a source of useful genes in breeding programmes.  相似文献

From 1993 to 2001, a maize-vegetable-wheat rotation was compared using either 1) composts, 2) manure, or 3) synthetic fertilizer for nitrogen nutrient input. From 1993 to 1998, red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) and crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) were used as an annual winter legume cover crop prior to maize production. From 1999 to 2001, hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth.) served as the legume green manure nitrogen (N) source for maize. In this rotation, wheat depended entirely on residual N that remained in the soil after maize and vegetable (pepper and potato) production. Vegetables received either compost, manure, or fertilizer N inputs. Raw dairy manure stimulated the highest overall maize yields of 7,395 kg/ha (approximately 140 bushels per acre). This exceeded the Berks County mean yield of about 107 bushels per acre from 1994 to 2001. When hairy vetch replaced clover as the winter green manure cover crop, maize yields rose in three of the four treatments (approximately 500-1,300 kg/ha, or 10-24 bu/a). Hairy vetch cover cropping also resulted in a 9-25 % increase in wheat yields in the compost treatments compared to clover cover cropping. Hairy vetch cover crops increased both maize and wheat grain protein contents about 16 to 20% compared to the clover cover crop. Compost was superior to conventional synthetic fertilizer and raw dairy manure in 1) building soil nutrient levels, 2) providing residual nutrient support to wheat production, and 3) reducing nutrient losses to ground and surface waters. After 9 years, soil carbon (C) and soil N remained unchanged or declined slightly in the synthetic fertilizer treatment, but increased with use of compost amendments by 16-27% for C and by 13-16% for N. However, with hairy vetch cover crops, N leaching increased 4 times when compared to clover cover crops. September was the highest month for nitrate leaching, combining high rainfall with a lack of active cash crop or cover crop growth to use residual N. Broiler litter leaf compost (BLLC) showed the lowest nitrate leaching of all the nutrient amendments tested (P= 0.05).  相似文献

利用尼龙网袋法研究光叶紫花苕子在烟田中的腐解和养分释放规律。结果表明,种植烤烟与否对光叶紫花苕子有机物质的腐解及养分释放动态无明显影响。其有机物质前2周腐解最快,第3~9周腐解速率中等,9周以后较慢,各阶段平均每周分解量分别占整个烤烟生育期内总分解量的29.86%~31.76%,2.52%~2.60%和1.41%~1.74%。光叶紫花苕子的碳、氮、钾释放量与翻压时间的关系可用对数方程拟合,前1~2周释放速率最快,其后释放速率迅速下降并趋于稳定。其中氮在前5周释放量占其整个烤烟生育期内总释放量的86.90%~92.27%,不存在后期氮供应过多导致烤烟成熟期推迟问题。光叶紫花苕子磷的释放速率较平稳,没有明显阶段性,其释放量与翻压时间关系可用直线方程拟合。经过整个烤烟生长季节的分解,光叶紫花苕子碳、氮、钾、磷的释放率分别达到68.76%~71.28%、69.57%~74.40%、97.98%~98.02%、41.26%~42.41%。烟田翻压光叶紫花苕子做绿肥时,应在烟苗移栽前择期翻压,并适当减少化肥用量。  相似文献

The following comparisons between crops and their closely related wild relatives provide clues for discriminating between monophyletic and polyphyletic origins under domestication: (i) Presence or absence of patterns indicative of founder effects in the cultivated genepool, compared to the amount of variation present in its wild progenitor. (ii) Uniformity or lack of uniformity (within a crop) in genes governing principal domestication traits (traits that were automatically selected for once the wild progenitor was introduced into cultivation). (iii) Species diversity: The number of closely related (congeneric) wild species with similar potential for domestication, native to the area under consideration; and how many of them entered cultivation. The present paper evaluates the information available on the eight crops that founded Neolithic agriculture in the Near East; and arrives at the conclusion that emmer wheat Triticum turgidum L. subsp. dicoccum Schúbler, einkorn wheat T. monococcum L., pea Pisum sativum L., and lentil Lens culinaris Medik. were very likely taken into cultivation only once or – at most – a very few times. Also chickpea Cicer arietinum L., bitter vetch Vicia ervilia (L.) Willd., and flax Linum usitatissimum L. seem to have been domesticated in a similar way, but the evidence concerning them is much scarcer. Only for barley Hordeum vulgare L. are there indications that it has been domesticated more than once – but again only a very few times.  相似文献

Nitrogen (N) release from roll-killed legume cover crops was determined for hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth), crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.), and a hairy vetch + rye (Secale cereale L.) biculture in an organic corn production system in North Carolina, USA. Cover crops were planted at two locations in fall 2008 and 2009, roll-killed in May, and no-till planted with corn (Zea mays L.). Inorganic soil N and mineral N flux were determined using potassium chloride (KCl) extractions and ion-exchange resin (Plant Root Simulator, PRS) probes at 2-week intervals for 12 weeks and compared to fertilized controls of 0 and 168 kg N ha?1. In 2009, greater plant available N under hairy vetch than under either 0 N control or crimson clover was found, with peak soil N occurring between 4 and 6 weeks after roll kill. Available soil N under crimson clover mulches was less than or equal to 0 N, suggesting net immobilization.  相似文献
