Behavioral and ventilatory parameters have the possibility of predicting the stress state of fish in vivo and in situ. This paper presents a new image-processing algorithm for quantifying the average swimming speed of a fish school in an aquarium. This method is based on the alteration in projected area caused by the movement of individual fish during frame sequences captured at given time intervals. The image enhancement method increases the contrast between fish and background, and is thus suitable for use in turbid aquaculture water. Behavioral parameters (swimming activity and distribution parameters) and changes in ventilation frequency (VF) of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) responded to acute fluctuations in dissolved oxygen (DO) which were monitored continuously in the course of normoxia, falling DO level, maintenance of hypoxia (three levels of 1.5, 0.8 and 0.3 mg l−1) and subsequent recovery to normoxia. These parameters responded sensitively to acute variations in DO level; they displayed significant changes (P < 0.05) during severe hypoxia (0.8 and 0.3 mg l−1 level) compared with normoxic condition, but there was no significant difference under conditions of mild hypoxia (1.5 mg l−1 level). There was no significant difference in VF between two levels of severe hypoxia 0.8 and 0.3 mg l−1 level during the low DO condition. The activity and distribution parameters displayed distinguishable differences between the 0.8 and 0.3 mg l−1 levels. The behavioral parameters are thus capable of distinguishing between different degrees of severe hypoxia, though there were relatively large fluctuations.  相似文献

Data collected from 45 commercial channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, ponds were used to develop empirical models predicting sediment oxygen demand (SOD). Seven acceptable models were combined with a Monte-Carlo sampling distribution to predict industry-wide sediment oxygen demand (SODi). The SODi values obtained from the best equation were used in simulations to assess the effect of diurnally varying water column dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations on SOD and the effect of pond water depth on the contribution of SOD to overall pond respiration. Estimated SODi ranged from 62 to 962 mg m−2 h−1, with a mean of 478 mg m−2 h−1. There was a 95% probability of mean SODi being ≥700 mg m−2 h−1. The effects of diurnal variation in DO concentration in the water column on expression of SOD was modeled by combining maximum SODi, an empirical relationship between DO and SOD, and simulated pond DO concentrations. At DO concentrations >15 mg l−1, diel SOD in catfish ponds exceeded 20 g O2 m−2 day−1. But when average diel DO was <4 mg l−1 and the range of DO concentration was 6–8 mg l−1, SOD decreased to 13 g O2 m−2 day−1 because DO availability limited the full expression of potential SOD. Respiration totals for sediment (average SODi), plankton, and fish respiration were calculated for pond water depths ranging from 0.25 to 4 m. Although whole-pond respiration increases as pond depth increases, the proportion of total respiration represented by sediment decreased from 48 to 10% by increasing water depth over this range. The results of these studies show that SOD is a major component of total pond respiration and that certain management practices can affect the impact of SOD on pond oxygen budgets. Mixing ponds during daylight hours, either mechanically or by orienting ponds for maximum wind fetch, will increase oxygen supply to sediments, thereby allowing maximum expression of SOD and maximum mineralization of sediment organic matter. Given a mixed condition caused by wind or other artificial means, the construction of deeper ponds increases the total mass of DO available for all respiration, causing nighttime DO concentrations to decline at a slower rate, reducing the need for supplemental aeration. Because a pond’s water volume decreases over time from sediment accumulation, annual aeration costs will increase with pond age. Constructing ponds with greater initial depth will therefore reduce long-term cost of aeration, allow more flexible management of pond water budget, and reduce the long-term expense associated with pond reconstruction.  相似文献

Secondary crops provide a means of assimilating some effluent nitrogen from eutrophic shrimp farm settlement ponds. However, a more important role may be their stimulation of beneficial bacterial nitrogen removal processes. In this study, bacterial biomass, growth and nitrogen removal capacity were quantified in shrimp farm effluent treatment systems containing vertical artificial substrates and either the banana shrimp Penaeus merguiensis (de Man) or the grey mullet, Mugil cephalus L. Banana shrimp were found to actively graze biofilm on the artificial substrates and significantly reduced bacterial biomass relative to a control (24.5±5.6 mg C m−2 and 39.2±8.7 mg C m−2, respectively). Bacterial volumetric growth rates, however, were significantly increased in the presence of the shrimp relative to the control (45.2±11.3 mg C m−2 per day and 22.0±4.3 mg C m−2 per day, respectively). Specific growth rate, or growth rate per cell, of bacteria was therefore appreciably stimulated by the banana shrimp. Nitrate assimilation was found to be significantly higher on grazed substrate biofilm relative to the control (223±54 mg N m−2 per day and 126±36 mg N m−2 per day, respectively), suggesting that increased bacterial growth rate does relate to enhanced nitrogen uptake. Regulated banana shrimp feeding activity therefore can increase the rate of new bacterial biomass production and also the capacity for bacterial effluent nitrogen assimilation. Mullet had a negligible influence on the biofilm associated with the artificial substrate but reduced sediment bacterial biomass (224±92 mg C m−2) relative to undisturbed sediment (650±254 mg C m−2). Net, or volumetric bacterial growth in the sediment was similar in treatments with and without mullet, suggesting that the growth rate per cell of bacteria in grazed sediments was enhanced. Similar rates of dissolved nitrogen mineralisation were found in sediments with and without mullet but nitrification was reduced. Presence of mullet increased water column suspended solids concentrations, water column bacterial growth and dissolved nutrient uptake. This study has shown that secondary crops, particularly banana shrimp, can play a stimulatory role in the bacterial processing of effluent nitrogen in eutrophic shrimp effluent treatment systems.  相似文献

A cyanobacterium (Spirulina platensis) was co-cultured with black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) for water quality control. We evaluated the effects of: (1) three S. platensis trial conditions on inorganic nitrogen concentrations at one shrimp density (S. platensis trial conditions included: absent, nonharvested and semicontinuous harvesting) and (2) two shrimp densities on inorganic nitrogen concentrations, with and without S. platensis. Semicontinuous harvesting of S. platensis at one shrimp density resulted in significantly reduced (P<0.05) inorganic nitrogen concentrations (NH4, NO2 and NO3). With S. platensis absent, ammonium and nitrite concentrations ranged from 0.5 to 0.6 mg l−1, while nitrate concentrations ranged from 16 to 18 mg l−1 by day 44. With nonharvested S. platensis, considerable variability occurred with nitrogen concentrations. Semicontinuous harvest of S. platensis reduced nitrate to 4 mg l−1, while ammonium and nitrite ranged from 0.0 to 0.15 mg l−1, respectively. The factorial evaluation of shrimp density versus presence and absence of S. platensis resulted in greatly reduced nitrogenous compounds with S. platensis present regardless of shrimp density, and only moderately increased nitrogen with greater shrimp density. Without S. platensis, all nitrogen compounds were substantially elevated and shrimp survived was significantly reduced at high shrimp density.  相似文献

At the end of the exponential growth phase, the cell concentrations of batch cultures of Tetraselmis suecica and Dunaliella tertiolecta grown in f medium added with 5, 10 and 20 mg l−1 of the zeolitic products Zestec 56, Zesep 56 and Zeben 06 (ZT56, ZS56 and ZB06) were similar to those obtained with the same medium without zeolites. At the end of the following period of slow growth, all the experimental media gave significantly higher concentrations of T. suecica than the control cultures, but only the addition of 20 mg l−1 of ZT56 and ZB06 gave significantly better results with D. tertiolecta. However, in all cases the final harvests of total and ash-free biomass were similar to those of the controls, indicating the presence of smaller or lighter cell in the experimental cultures. The effect of these products is to enhance cell division rates in the phase of slow growth, with no advantage in terms of biomass production.  相似文献

The culture of the mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus), like many other Sciaenidae fishes, is rapidly growing. However there is no information on their metabolic physiology. In this study, the effects of various hypoxia levels on the swimming performance and metabolic scope of juvenile mulloway (0.34 ± 0.01 kg, mean ± SE, n = 30) was investigated (water temperature = 22 °C). In normoxic conditions (dissolved oxygen = 6.85 mg l− 1), mulloway oxygen consumption rate (M·o2) increased exponentially with swimming speed to a maximum velocity (Ucrit) of 1.7 ± < 0.1 body lengths s− 1 (BL s− 1) (n = 6). Mulloway standard metabolic rate (SMR) was typical for non-tuna fishes (73 ± 8 mg kg− 1 h− 1) and they had a moderate scope for aerobic metabolism (5 times the SMR). Mulloway minimum gross cost of transport (GCOTmin, 0.14 ± 0.01 mg kg− 1 m− 1) and optimum swimming velocity (Uopt, 1.3 ± 0.2 BL s− 1) were comparable to many other body and caudal fin swimming fish species. Energy expenditure was minimum when swimming between 0.3 and 0.5 BL s− 1. The critical dissolved oxygen level was 1.80 mg l− 1 for mulloway swimming at 0.9 BL s− 1. This reveals that mulloway are well adapted to hypoxia, which is probably adaptive from their natural early life history within estuaries. In all levels of hypoxia (75% saturation = 5.23, 50% = 3.64, and 25% = 1 .86 mg l− 1), M·o2 increased linearly with swimming speed and active metabolic rate (AMR) was reduced (218 ± 17, 202 ± 14 and 175 ± 10 mg kg− 1 h− 1 for 75%, 50% and 25% saturation respectively). However, Ucrit was only reduced at 50% and 25% saturation (1.4 ± < 0.1 and 1.4 ± < 0.1 BL s− 1 respectively). This demonstrates that although the metabolic capacity of mulloway is reduced in mild hypoxia (75% saturation) they are able to compensate to maintain swimming performance. GCOTmin (0.09 ± 0.01 mg kg− 1 m− 1) and Uopt (0.8 ± 0.1 BL s− 1) were significantly reduced at 25% dissolved oxygen saturation. As mulloway metabolic scope was significantly reduced at all hypoxia levels, it suggests that even mild hypoxia may reduce growth productivity.  相似文献

The yield of cultures of Emiliania huxleyi, a coccolithophore marine micro-alga species, in natural seawater and in seawater previously exposed to elutriates of ZEBEN-06 and ZESTEC-56, two zeolitic-nature products (ZNPs) (supernatant of 2.0 g l−1 of ZNP in natural seawater, stirred for 30 min) was evaluated. Total concentrations of dissolved trace metals and organic ligands (and respective conditional stability constants) in the initial media and at 7th day cultures were determined, by anodic and cathodic striping voltammetry. The changes introduced by the ZNPs in the media significantly enhanced E. huxleyi growth yield, the effect being more extent in the ZESTEC-56 elutriate. It was observed that both the ZNPs enriched the seawater with trace and not toxic quantities of Mn. In addiction, ZEBEN-06 removed small fractions of Cu and Zn from the media. The ZEBEN-06 elutriate stimulated the cell exudation but that of ZESTEC-56 inhibited exudation. Algae were also incubated in a culture medium with 0.05 g l−1 ZESTEC-56 in situ, and the growth yield was similar to that of the control culture. ZEBEN-06 was not studied in situ because it was hard to distinguish its particles from the cells, during cells counting. The ZESTEC-56 in situ enriched the medium in Mn, Cu, Pb and Cd, but impoverished it in Zn. The cell exudation was about four times higher in the presence of the ZNP in situ. Liberation/adsorption of micro-nutrients at the surface of the zeolites seems to be the cause of the observed changes in the biological response of the algae. The yield of the algal growth has economic relevance in aquaculture. On the other hand, ZNP are cheap, only small amounts (few mg l−1) are required and the addition of some nicro-nutrients may be omitted. Therefore, the inclusion of zeolites in algal cultures in aquaculture may be economically advantageous. However, it is recommendable an previous investigation, in order to select the zeolitic characteristics and concentration that will maximise the algal yield in each particular case (alga nature and seawater trace metal contents).  相似文献

An experiment was conducted for 8 weeks at the Cantho University, Vietnam, to determine the acceptable level of mangrove leaf litter load and its effect on water quality, growth and survival rate of tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon). Shrimps were cultured in plastic tanks containing 50 L of brackish water (salinity of 15‰). Leaf litter of Rhizophora apiculata, Avicennia officinalis, Excoecaria agallocha and Acacia auriculiformis were loaded to tanks at rates of 0.0 (control), 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 g L− 1 with and without aeration. Tiger shrimp post-larvae (PL; 0.05 ± 0.01 g) obtained from the shrimp hatchery of Cantho University were stocked at a density of 20 PL per tank and fed with pelleted feed containing 38% protein at a rate of 10% body weight (BW) day− 1.

The high leaf-loading rates significantly reduced dissolved oxygen (DO) and survival rates of shrimp in the non-aerated treatments, and all shrimps died after 2 days in the treatments with loading rates above 0.5 g L− 1. Leaf litter loads significantly increased tannin content, chemical oxygen demand (COD), H2S and pH in the aerated treatments. Stepwise regression analysis showed COD, tannin and H2S concentrations had negative effects on shrimp growth in the aerated treatments. Tannin concentration was found to be highest in the treatments with Excoecaria (32 mg L− 1) and Avicennia (24 mg L− 1) leaves. However, there were no significant differences in growth and survival rates of shrimp among the aerobic treatments loaded with different leaf types. The results of this study showed that moderate load of mangrove leaves could play an important role in promoting shrimp growth and survival in aerobic condition. Mangrove leaves at a loading rate of 1 g L− 1 positively influenced both the survival and growth rate of shrimps.  相似文献

A culture trial was performed using five levels of ascorbic acid 2-monophosphate (AmP at 0, 10, 100, 1000 and 2000 mg kg−1 diet, expressed as active ascorbic acid, AA) in a semipurified diet for early postlarval Penaeus vannamei. The experiment started 10 days after metamorphosis of the mysid larvae into postlarvae (=PL10). Each treatment was run in four replicates. P. vannamei postlarvae showed significantly better growth according to dietary AA level after 25 days of feeding, i.e. at PL36 stage. Whereas the dry weight of PL36 in the control treatment (0 mg AA kg−1 diet) was only 2 mg, supplementation of 1000 mg AA kg−1 increased the shrimp dry weight up to 18 mg. However, the growth in the other treatments was not significantly different from the control. Fitting a broken-line regression to the biomass yield demonstrated an optimal dietary level of 130 mg AA kg−1 diet. There were no differences observed among the treatments in stress resistance of postlarval P. vannamei to a salinity shock.  相似文献

The efficacy of clove oil as an anaesthetic and at producing a physiological response (plasma cortisol and glucose) was evaluated in the kelp grouper, Epinephelus bruneus . To acquire complete anaesthesia in less than 3 min and recovery in <10 min, three doses of clove oil were tested at 18, 22 and 26 °C. Although higher anaesthetic doses resulted in shorter induction times and longer recovery times, and a lower temperature resulted in longer anaesthesia induction and slower recovery, we found the optimal dose and administering temperature of clove oil to be 250–300 mg L−1 at water temperature of 18 °C, 150–200 mg L−1 at water temperature of 22 °C and 50–100 mg L−1 at water temperature of 26 °C respectively. Following the administration of 150 mg L−1 of clove oil at 22 °C, the plasma cortisol level was highest (4.24 ± 1.571 μg dL−1) after 12 h and the plasma glucose was highest (92.7 ± 9.61 mg dL−1) after 2 h. These results should be useful to the aquaculture industry, where anaesthesia is necessary for a range of activities.  相似文献

In a commercial scallop hatchery spat production depends on a culture system which ensures high survival and good growth. Reuse of water with algae may increase the food exploitation and hence reduce the costs. Post-larvae of great scallop (Pecten maximus) were studied in a commercial hatchery using a partial open and continuous feeding tank system. Three different water recirculation rates (67, 83 and 92%) were tried out in two experiments with post-larvae originating from three spawning groups of ages between 43 and 57 days post-spawn, 316–886 μm shell-height and 1.1–9.6 μg ash-free dry weight. The post-larvae were held in sieves in tanks of 2500 l where a downwelling flow was maintained by airlifts. New water with a mix of monocultured algae was continuously added to the tanks at algal concentrations of 10 and 15 cells μl−1 in experiment 1 (groups 1 and 2) and 2 (group 3), respectively. The algal supply to each sieve was reduced along with increased recirculation rate, but was kept between 6 and 13 cells μl−1. Generally no significant differences in survival, growth or chemical content were found between the three recirculation rates, while few differences were found between and within groups. Large variation in survival was found between and within groups (1–81%). Highest survival was found in experiment 1, and where post-larvae from two settlements were used, the first settlement survived better than the second. The daily growth ranged from 15 to 62 μm shell-height and from 0.3 to 2.6 μg ash-free dry weight. The scallop post-larvae could well be reared at all three recirculation rates studied as an increase from 67 to 92% did not seem to affect the post-larval performance seriously. The algal supply, however, had to be compensated by an increasing number of cells (>10 cells μl−1) when increasing the recirculation rate.  相似文献

l -ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (ApP) was used as a vitamin C source to investigate the ascorbic acid (AsA) requirements on growth performance and stress resistance of the larval white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei . Five isoenergetic and isonitrogenous fish meal-fish protein hydrolysate-based diets with five levels of ApP, AsA equivalent to 91.8, 188, 271, 360 and 436 mg kg−1 diet were fed to triplicate groups of L. vannamei (mean initial wet weight 1 mg) for 32 days. The diet with AsA 91.8 mg kg−1 showed high cumulative mortality after 10 days of feeding. After the 32-day trial, the shrimp that fed the diet had significantly lower survival and weight gain (WG, %) than those that fed 188, 271, 360 and 436 mg AsA kg−1 diets. Specific growth rate (SGR, % day−1) and final body wet weight (FBW, mg) showed the same pattern as WG (%). There were no significant differences in growth performance (FBW, WG and SGR) among the groups that fed 188, 271, 360 and 436 mg kg−1 of AsA at the termination of feeding trial. Broken-line regression analysis on WG indicated that 191 mg AsA kg−1 in the diet was the optimum for larval L. vannamei . On the contrary, dietary level of more than 360 mg AsA kg−1 was needed to ensure high resistance to stressful conditions such as low dissolved oxygen stressors.  相似文献

Larvae of two Mediterranean Sparidae species, Sparus aurata and Dentex dentex , were used to test the efficacy of a peroxide-based product (Ox-Aquaculture©) on the reduction in bacterial load in larval rearing water and its effects on larval survival. Eleven-day-old S. aurata larvae and 15-day-old D. dentex larvae were exposed to different concentrations of Ox-Aquaculture© (50, 100 and 200 mg L−1, and 20 and 50 mg L−1 respectively) for 1 h. Results indicated that 50 and 20 mg L−1 were the most effective concentrations for the reduction in bacterial load (at least one order of magnitude) after 1 h treatment, without affecting larval survival and/or vitality in 11 dph S. aurata and 15 dph D. dentex larvae respectively. Ox-Aquaculture© concentrations of 200 and 50 mg L−1 during 1 h affected negatively final survival rate of the larvae of S. aurata and D. dentex respectively.  相似文献

Juvenile greenlip abalone, Haliotis laevigata, (mean whole weight 4.48±1.9 g, mean±s.d., n=953) were highly sensitive to ammonia as indicated by depressed growth rate and food consumption measured over 2–3 months in bioassay tanks. For growth rate expressed on a whole weight basis, the EC5 and EC50 values (5 and 50% growth reductions) were 0.041 mg FAN l−1 (Free Ammonia–Nitrogen) and 0.158 mg FAN l−1, respectively. Shell growth rates declined over the entire experimental range (0.006–0.188 mg FAN l−1). At the end of the bioassay, groups of abalone were transferred to respiratory chambers. Oxygen consumption rate increased to a maximum of 188% of control values at 0.235 mg FAN l−1 and decreased slightly at the highest concentration of 0.418 mg FAN l−1.  相似文献

Antifungal agents are essential for the maintenance of healthy stocks of fish and their eggs in intensive aquaculture operations. In the USA, formalin is the only fungicide approved for use in fish culture. However, hydrogen peroxide and sodium chloride have been granted low regulatory priority drug status by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and their use is allowed. We evaluated the efficacy of these fungicides for controlling fungal infections on rainbow trout eggs. A pilot study was conducted to determine the minimum water flow rate required to administer test chemicals accurately in Heath incubators. A minimum water flow rate of 7.6 1 min−1 was necessary to maintain treatment concentrations during flow-through chemical exposures. The antifungal activity of formalin, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium chloride was evaluated by treating uninfected and 10% fungal-infected (Saprolegnia parasitica) rainbow trout eggs (Oncorhynchus mykiss) for 15 min every other day until hatch. There were no significant differences among treatments in percent hatch or final infection for uninfected eggs receiving prophylactic chemical treatments. Eggs of the negative control group (uninfected and untreated) had a mean hatch exceeding 86%. All chemical treatments conducted on the infected egg groups controlled the spread of fungus and improved hatching success compared with the positive control groups (infected and untreated). Formalin treatments of 1000 and 1500 μl l−1 and hydrogen peroxide treatments of 500 and 1000 μl l−1 were the most effective. Sodium chloride treatments of 30 000 mg l−1 improved fry hatch, but the compound was less effective at inhibiting fungal growths compared with hydrogen peroxide and formalin treatments.  相似文献

Three kinds of locally available plastic biofilter media with different configurations (plastic rolls, PVC pipes and scrub pads) were evaluated for their efficiency in organic waste removal from the effluents of an intensive recirculating tilapia culture system. A set of three types of solid-removing filters consisting of screened sedimentation; upflow sand as well as plastic bead filtration accomplished the mechanical filtration. Values of critical metabolic wastes like total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) (0.92 ppm) and nitrite-nitrogen (NO2-N) (0.22 ppm) were found to be well within the acceptable limits, while other water quality parameters in the culture water were also maintained within the normal range by the filtration system. Removal rates of 3.46 g TAN/m3 per day and 0.77 g NO2-N/m3 per day, as well as TAN and NO2-N removal efficiencies of 29.37 and 27.3% respectively, were established to be the best for the plastic-roll biofilter medium as compared to PVC-pipe and scrub-pad media. Percent removal of TAN and NO2-N per pass of the biofilter (25.49 and 26.3% respectively) and the specific TAN and NO2-N removal rates (43 and 9.6 mg/m2 per day) of plastic rolls were also found to be superior to the other two biofilter media. Pieces of PVC pipes as biofilter medium is recommended to be used in the biofilters in view of their cheaper cost.  相似文献

Ecuadorian Penaeus vannamei were cultured in dirt ponds (each of approximately 163 m2) at four different stocking densities, i.e. 5 shrimp m−2, 10 shrimp m−2, 15 shrimp m−2 and 20 shrimp m−2. Experiments were carried out over three different periods during the year. Each experiment lasted for 11–14 weeks. No commercial feed was given to the shrimp. The only input to the ponds was about 30 kg of cattle manure per pond per week. Chemical composition of the cattle manure was analyzed. Water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, DO and turbidity were recorded twice daily for each experiment; nutrients (nitrite, nitrate, ammonium and phosphate), water ATP, sediment ATP, H2S and chlorophyll were measured twice weekly for each experiment. Shrimp were sampled either weekly or bi-weekly for body weight measurements.

The results showed a negative correlation between stocking density and growth. Weekly growth ranged from 0·44 to 1·58 g week−1. Survival was over 50% in all treatments and averaged at 70·8%. Under these stocking densities, shrimp production ranged from 4·4 to 18·8 kg ha−1 day−1. The stocking density of 15 shrimps m−2 provides better production than the other stocking densities.

Water quality data did not relate to any shrimp growth. Water nutrient levels in pond discharge water were less than or equal to the nutrients in the incoming water in spite of the weekly addition of cattle manure and did not increase with the addition of cattle manure. No coliform bacteria were detected in any pond water samples through the study period. This indicates digestion of cattle manure in marine shrimp ponds would not pollute the environment with high concentrations of dissolved nutrients.

Thus, a marine shrimp pond can be considered a dissolved nutrient marine treatment plant converting unwanted cattle manure (1841 kg cattle manure ha−1 week−1 in this study) into a valuable commodity — shrimp.  相似文献

We describe the development and evaluation of a new microparticle for delivering low-molecular weight, water-soluble materials to suspension feeders. Spray beads successfully incorporated materials dissolved in an aqueous phase or as dry particulate, within a triacylglyceride bead composed of tripalmitin, 600 mg g−1 tripalmitin/400 mg g−1 triolein, or 600 mg g−1 tripalmitin/400 mg g−1 fish oil.
Riboflavin was successfully incorporated (up to 44 mg g−1 lipid) and retained (up to 98% over 24 h in seawater) as dry particles in all three mixtures of lipid. Aqueous oxytetracycline hydrochloride or polymeric dye were incorporated (45.6 mg g−1 lipid and 18.1 mg g−1 lipid, respectively) and retained best (99% and 94%, respectively) in spray beads composed of tripalmitin. The addition of triolein or fish oil to the lipid bead reduced incorporation and retention efficiencies for aqueous core materials by up to 75%.
Manila clam seed readily ingested and digested lipid microparticles, spray beads and lipid-walled microcapsules. Microparticles composed of tripalmitin were excreted with their payloads intact. Intact microparticles composed of 600 mg g−1 tripalmitin/400 mg g−1 fish oil were largely absent in faecal strands suggesting successful release and delivery of microparticle contents to clams.
Spray beads composed of tripalmitin softened with 400 mg g−1 fish oil represent an effective microparticle type for delivering low-molecular weight, water-soluble materials to aquatic suspension feeders.  相似文献

Six experiments were designed to determine the optimal anaesthetic dosage of tricaine methanesulphonate (TMS) and clove oil that could be used safely on juvenile cobia Rachycentron canadum of two sizes [G1=4.9±0.8 g; G2=13.9±3.1 g]. We documented the stage of anaesthesia and the acute toxicity as 96 h LC50 (lethal concentration 50% population) at various exposure times of the two anaesthetics. At 10 min induction time, the TMS 96 h LC50 was 93.9 mg L−1 in G1 and 97.0 mg L−1 in G2. Compared with clove oil, the 96 h LC50 was 60.0 mg L−1 in G1 and 69.8 mg L−1 in G2. The difference between the two groups (G1, G2) did not influence anaesthesia safety ( P >0.05). Rachycentron canadum achieved stage 3 anaesthesia more rapidly at a lower clove oil concentration level (40 mg L−1, 10 min) than TMS (60 mg L−1, 10 min), but the recovery period of clove oil, was significantly longer. Clove oil was the most effective in reducing the short-term stress induced by routine biometry (20 mg L−1, 10 min) and also by transporting (1 mg L−1, 8 h). Whereas, for long-term exposure, 40 mg L−1 TMS was found to be safe.  相似文献

White shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei held in 25‰ seawater at 27 °C or 28 °C were injected with TSB-grown Vibrio alginolyticus at 1 × 104 colony-forming units (cfu) shrimp− 1 or 1 × 105 cfu shrimp− 1, and then cultivated onward at water temperatures varying from 20 to 34 °C. Over 24–144 h, mortality of V. alginolyticus-injected shrimp held at 34 °C or 32 °C was significantly higher than that of shrimp held at lower temperatures. In a separate experiment, shrimp held in 25‰ seawater at 28 °C and then cultured onward at 20 to 32 °C were examined for immune parameters at 24–96 h. THC, phenoloxidase activity, respiratory burst, and SOD activity decreased significantly at 24 h after transfer to 32 °C. Shrimp held in 25‰ seawater at 27 °C and then cultured onward at 20 to 34 °C showed a significant reduction in phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency for V. alginolyticus at 24 h after transfer to 34 °C. It was concluded that transfer of shrimp from 27 or 28 °C to higher temperatures (32 and 34 °C) reduced their immune capability and decreased resistance to V. alginolyticus infection.  相似文献
