Permethrin, cypermethrin, and resmethrin were tested under field conditions as repellents to protect cattle from black flies (Simulium spp.). The chemicals were applied topically to the entire body surface of steers. Ethanolic solutions of technical permethrin, at doses of 1, 2, 4 and 6 mg a. i. kg?1 of body weight, effectively repelled black flies by preventing at least 70% of the flies present from taking a blood meal for up to 8 days, and for at least 11 days at a dose of 12 mg a. i. kg?1. Aqueous mixtures of a 20% permethrin emulsifiable concentrate (e. c.), at doses of 1, 2 and 6 mg a. i. kg?1, effectivelyrepelled black flies for 2, 10 and 11 days, respectively. Aready-to-use 5% permethrin dust, at doses of 1, 2, and 4 mg a. i. kg?1, effectively repelled black flies for 4, 5 and 8 days, respectively. Ethanolic solutions of technical cypermethrin, at doses of 1 and 2 mg a. i. kg?1, repelled black flies for 3 and 4 days, respectively. Aqueous mixtures of a 40% cypermethrin e. c., at doses of 2 and 4 mg a. i. kg?1, repelled black flies for at least 5 days. Ethanolic solutions of technical resmethrin, at doses of 2 and 6 mg a. i. kg?1, repelled black flies for 1 and 2 days, respectively.  相似文献

A field experiment was carried out on bulk sorghum stored for 26 weeks in concrete silos in South Queensland. No natural infestation occurred. Laboratory bioassays of treated grain, in which malathion-resistant strains of insects were added to grain samples, indicated that all the treatments were generally effective. Deltamethrin (2mg kg−1)+piperonyl butoxide (8mg kg−1), fenitrothion (12mg kg−1)+fenvalerate (1 mg kg−1)+piperonyl butoxide (8mg kg−1), and fenitrothion (12mg kg−1)+phenothrin (2mg kg−1)+piperonyl butoxide (8mg kg−1) controlled typical malathion-resistant strains of Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) and Ephestia cautella (Walker). Pirimiphos-methyl (6mg kg−1)+permethrin (1mg kg−1)+piperonyl butoxide (8mg kg−1) allowed some survival of adults and progeny production by S. oryzae after 12 weeks, and by one strain of R. dominica throughout. Chemical assays established that the residues and rates of breakdown of these grain protectants on sorghum conformed to the general pattern on other cereal grains. Residues at the conclusion of the experiment were below the individual Maximum Residue Limits recommended by the Codex Alimentarius Commission.  相似文献

Laboratory tests in a fly chamber and field trials in the UK and Australia have shown that permethrin, (3-phenoxybenzyl (1R,1S)-cis,trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2, 2-dime-thylcyclopropanecarboxylate) containing 25: 75 cis: trans isomers, applied as water emulsions to cattle and horses will control biting flies. Satisfactory protection against the stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) and excellent control against the horn fly, Haematobia (Lyperosia) irritans (L.) was achieved on cattle. Good control was obtained on horses against the stable fly and the sand fly Culicoides spp. These early results are encouraging and toxicity and residue data suggest that permethrin would be a safe insecticide to use on livestock for the control of biting flies of veterinary importance.  相似文献

Approximately 350 people, the inhabitants of two villages in the Fayum district of Egypt, were individually dusted with 50 g of powder containing 2.5 or 5.0 g permethrin kg?1. The inhabitants of a third village were left untreated as a control. Before treatment, approximately two-thirds of the population of all three villages were infested with bodylice. Fourteen days after treatment, the permethrin dust at the lower strength reduced the infestation by 98.8% and at the higher strength by 100%. The dust containing 5 g permethrin kg?1 maintained a high level of residual control (80.5%) for at least 91 days. The other gave a lower level of control at this time. Urine samples, taken from subjects in each of the treated villages before and after dusting, were analysed for permethrin metabolites. Results indicated that the maximum amount of permethrin absorbed, orally, through the skin, or by inhalation, was 39 μg kg?1 body weight, 24 h after treatment. No residue was found 30 days and 60 days after treatment. It was concluded that there was a very substantial safety margin when permethrin dusts were used on man for bodylice control.  相似文献

Permethrin was tested for the protection of cattle against field populations of mosquitoes. Permethrin (500 ml of a permethrin 4·0 g liter?1 aqueous emulsion) applied with a ‘Dual-Cloud’ electrostatic sprayer was effective in providing coverage of the cattle body surface of a group of four animals; 100 ml of a permethrin 5·0 g liter?1 aqueous emulsion applied with a ‘Dual-Cloud'’ electrostatic sprayer as a total body spray to a yearling heifer provided 70% or better protection from field populations of mosquitoes for at least 72 h; 500 ml of a permethrin 1·0 g liter?1 aqueous emulsion applied as a low-pressure spray to the body of a yearling heifer provided 70% or better protection from mosquitoes for at least 140 h. Permethrin applied as a total body-spray thus provides adequate protection to cattle from field populations of mosquitoes.  相似文献

Foliar applications of synthetic pyrethroids were made to several crops to determine residue levels at various intervals after application. On onions, residues of cypermethrin, permethrin and fenvalerate were negligible > 0.1 mg kg?1, 7 days after application. On lettuce, residues of fenvalerate and permethrin were 0.8 mg kg?1. On celery, residues of fenvalerate did not decline and ranged from 0.12 to 0.25 mg kg?1 during the 14-day period. On green bush-beans, residues of permethrin and cypermethrin did not decline during the 14-day period and ranged from 0.1 to 0.6 mg kg?1. By day 7, residues of cyfluthrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, fenvalerate and permethrin on strawberries were less than the acceptable maximum tolerance of 0.1 mg kg?1 with the exception of cypermethrin, applied at the rate of 0.14 kg a.i. ha?1 which gave a residue of 0.14 mg kg?1.  相似文献

Organophosphorothioates and synergised synthetic pyrethroids were used in duplicate field trials carried out on bulk wheat in commercial silos in Queensland and New South Wales. Laboratory bioassays using malathion-resistant strains of insects were carried out on samples of treated grain at intervals over 9 months. These established that all treatments were generally effective. Deltamethrin (2 mg kg?1)+ piperonyl butoxide (8 mg kg?1), fenitrothion (12 mg kg?1)+ fenvalerate (1 mg kg?1)+ piperonyl butoxide (8 mg kg?1), fenitrothion (12 mg kg?1)+ phenothrin (2 mg kg?1)+ piperonyl butoxide (8 mg kg?1) and pirimiphos-methyl (4 mg kg?1)+ permethrin (1 mg kg?1)+ piperonyl butoxide (8 mg kg?1) controlled common field strains of Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and Rhyzopertha dominica (F.). Against a highly resistant strain of S. oryzae, deltamethrin (2 mg kg?1)+ piperonyl butoxide (8 mg kg?1) was superior to the remaining treatments. All treatment combinations completely prevented progeny production in Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), T. confusum Jacquelin du Val and in Ephestia cautella (Walker). Residues of deltamethrin, fenvalerate, permethrin and phenothrin were determined and shown to be highly persistent on stored wheat. During milling, residues accumulated in the bran fractions and were reduced in white flour. They were not significantly reduced during baking.  相似文献

In laboratory experiments, whole wheat was treated with pirimiphos-methyl or carbaryl or combinations of these two insecticides; the treated grain was then adjusted to a 12% moisture content and stored at 25°C for bioassay at various intervals over a period of 39 weeks. Pirimiphos-methyl at 5.1 mg kg?1 effectively controlled Sitophilus granarius (L.) and Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val but was ineffective against Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) CRD 118, a strain showing malathion resistance. Conversely, carbaryl at 6.5 mg kg?1 (but not at 3.1 mg kg?1) was effective against R. dominica, but ineffective against the other two species. A combination of pirimiphosmethyl + carbaryl, at 1.8 + 5.1 mg kg?1, controlled S. granarius and R dominica but not T. confusum, whilst a 4.2 + 3.4 mg kg?1 combination was relatively more effective against T. confusum but less so against R. dominica. In a separate experiment, whole wheat was treated with carbaryl at 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 mg kg?1 (nominal rates). Samples were stored and, at various times after the treatments, were bioassayed with R. dominica CRD 2, at 20, 25, 30 and 35°C. The results were comparable with those for the CRD 118 strain, but efficacy was reduced at higher temperatures. The combination of pirimiphos-methyl at 4–5 mg kg?1 and carbaryl at 5–6 mg kg?1 is suggested as a potentially useful grain protectant where R. dominica is a problem and long term storage is required. These results are discussed in relation to the protection of stored grain in Australia.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Chlorantraniliprole formulated as a 350 g kg?1 WG (Altacor 35WG) for management of apple maggot Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh), blueberry maggot R. mendax Curran and cherry fruit fly R. cingulata (Loew) (Diptera: Tephritidae) was evaluated in laboratory assays and field trials. RESULTS: A tarsal contact toxicity bioassay showed that a surface residue of 500 mg L?1 of chlorantraniliprole caused significantly higher mortality of male and female flies of all species compared with a control. Male apple maggot and blueberry maggot mortality was significantly higher than that for females, but there was similar mortality of male and female cherry fruit flies. An ingestion toxicity bioassay showed that 500 mg L?1 of chlorantraniliprole in diet caused significantly higher mortality of male and female flies of all species than the control, but there were no significant differences among the sexes. Delayed egglaying by females that had ingested chlorantraniliprole was found, but there were no significant sublethal effects on either the number of eggs laid or the egg hatch. Field trials with apple maggot and cherry fruit fly showed that protection of fruit by chlorantraniliprole was comparable with that of standard broad‐spectrum insecticides. CONCLUSIONS: The present data indicate that chlorantraniliprole has suppressant activity against Rhagoletis fruit flies, preventing fruit infestation primarily through direct lethal effects. Surveys of inorganic bromide ion residues in tomatoes, cucumbers and selfblanching celery, commercially produced in England following soil sterilisation with bromomethane, have been carried out since 1979. The mean bromide ion level in 29 late-season cucumber samples was approximately 28 mg kg−1 and ranged up to 109 mg kg−1. Analysis of 242 tomato samples gave estimated mean bromide ion levels per plant ranging from 6 to 187 mg kg−1 in fruit picked throughout the season from seven holdings, on six of which bromomethane had been used fairly recently prior to planting. A statistically significant fall in bromide levels over the growing season was shown on four of the sites. In 38 samples of self-blanching celery, the mean bromide ion level was 104 mg kg−1 even though the mean interval between fumigation and planting was in excess of 1 year. Retail surveillance indicated that a large number of crops are likely to have bromide ion levels below 10mg kg−1.  相似文献

Omphalotin A, a cyclic dodecapeptide produced by submerged cultures of the basidiomycete Omphalotus olearius, exhibited in-vitro and in-vivo nematicidal activity. Meloidogyne incognita was the most sensitive nematode. At 2.0 mg litre−1, 50% of the nematodes were dead after one hour. Heterodera schachtii, Radopholus similis and Pratylenchus penetrans were affected at higher concentrations. Incorporated into agar, the compound prevented infection of cucumber seedlings by M. incognita at concentrations of 1 mg litre−1 and higher. In glasshouse tests, complete protection of cucumbers and lettuce was achieved between 2.5 and 10 mg litre−1. No insecticidal activity was observed when Plutella xylostella, Phaedon cochleariae or Spodoptera frugiperda were fed material containing 4 g kg−1 of omphalotin A. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A method is described for the simultaneous determination of residues of five fungicides used for foliar treatment of apple and pear trees, and for postharvest application. After extraction, the mixture of these fungicides is cleaned-up on a ‘SEP PAK C18’ cartridge and the components determined by gas-liquid chromatography with electron-capture detection. The minimum detectable amounts in apples and pears, on a fresh weight basis, were 0.005mg kg−1 for vinclozolin, 0.010mg kg−1 for captan, folpet and iprodione, and 0.020 mg kg−1 for captafol. The percentage recovery for each fungicide (calculated by analysing four samples of untreated apples and pears, to which varying concentrations of each active ingredient had been added) varied for vinclozolin between 70.0 and 89.2, for captan between 72.0 and 83.8, for folpet between 73.0 and 93.0, for captafol between 70.8 and 91.8, and for iprodione between 75.1 and 97.1.  相似文献

The effects of uneven application of an azadirachtin-enriched neem extract to wheat grain on the reproduction and feeding behaviour in Rhyzopertha dominica (F) were investigated. The evenness of distribution amongst individual wheat grains during grain treatment was not important in ensuring its effectiveness as an anti-feedant or as an insect growth regulator, provided that, overall, the grain was treated with an effective level of azadirachtin. The effect of azadirachtin on reproduction was not improved when the diluent application rates were increased from 0.5 ml kg−1 to 5 ml kg−1. Treating 10% of the grain was shown to provide the same level of protection as treating 100% of the grain. The anti-feedant effect of azadirachtin on the beetle was also unaffected by unevenness of treatment, provided that 50% of the grain was treated. The fact that azadirachtin remains effective even when application to grain is uneven may be advantageous in field situations where uniform distribution of insecticides is difficult to achieve. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Permethrin and deltamethrin, two synthetic pyrethroid insecticides, are registered in several countries for use on lettuce. Both chemicals were applied on autumn and spring grown lettuce in the glasshouse. When applied at the normal prescribed dose rates of 25 and 12.5 g a.i. ha?1, < 1 mg kg?1 of either compound was found in the lettuce at harvest, even when applied only a few days before harvest. The total amount of active ingredient applied was too low to reach the 1 mg kg?1 level when evenly applied on marketable lettuce heads weighing about 200 g each. Applying a higher dose than 25 g permethrin a.i. ha?1 or 12.5 g deltamethrin a.i. ha?1, or applying two applications in the 2 weeks prior to harvest, may well result in residue levels higher than the maximum residue limit of 1 mg kg?1 for permethrin and certainly higher than the maximum residue limit of 0.2 mg kg?1 for deltamethrin, which is more persistent.  相似文献

Cypermethrin, fenvalerate, permethrin, (S)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (1R,cis)-3-(2, 2-dibromovinyl)-2, 2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (NRDC 161) and (R,S)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl 2, 2,3, 3-tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (S-3206; WL 41706) have been tested against adult mosquitoes (Anopheles stephensi) and tsetse flies (Glossina austeni). They possess many of the necessary characteristics such as high intrinsic toxicity, low volatility, and high stability but vary considerably in the contact action of their spray residues.  相似文献

Organophosphorus insecticide residues have been monitored for two years in virgin olive oil after dimethoate and fenthion treatments to control the olive fruit fly. No dimethoate residues were detected in any of the samples. For the first and second years, 50% and 21%, respectively, of the samples contained no detectable fenthion residues, while 4% and 6%, respectively had residue concentrations exceeding the Codex Alimentarious Maximum Residue Limit (1 mg kg?1). The mean concentration was 0·236 mg kg?1 oil and the estimated daily intake of fenthion 0·0002 mg kg?1 body weight (Acceptable Daily Intake 0·001 mg kg?1 body weight). The parent compound was the most important residue in fresh samples, while aged samples contained a higher amount of the metabolite fenthion sulfoxide. The contribution of the oxygen analogues (P= 0 metabolites) of fenthion to the total residue concentration was<5% in most cases.  相似文献

The summary deals with the anti-convulsant and antilethal effects of a new benzodiazepine receptor partial agonist, imidazenil, in DFP intoxication. It has been demonstrated that imidazenil (2–5 mg kg−1) significantly decreases convulsion intensity, rapidly inhibits seizure patterns in brain bioelectrical activity and significantly increases the anti-lethal efficacy of atropine plus obidoxime therapy. These effects are comparable to diazepam at 5 mg kg−1. However, diazepam exhibits myorelaxant activity at therapeutic doses, which are only observed at 5–10 times the therapeutic doses of imidazenil.  相似文献

The toxicity of the naturally derived insecticide spinosad was tested against the gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar. Bioassays using red oak leaf disks, treated with spinosad in a Potter spray tower, yielded an LC50 value of 0.0015 µg AI cm−2 (3‐day exposure; 13‐day evaluation; 2nd instar larvae). Applied to foliage to run‐off in the laboratory (potted red oak seedlings) and the field (4 m‐tall birch trees), spinosad effectively controlled 2nd instar larvae at concentrations ranging from 3 to 50 mg litre−1. Toxicity in the laboratory, and efficacy and persistence in the field, were comparable to those achieved with the insecticide permethrin. Laboratory studies supported field observations that control was achieved in part by knockdown due to paralysis. In addition, laboratory results demonstrated that crawling contact activity may play an important role in field efficacy; 50% of treated larvae were paralyzed 16 h after a 2‐min crawling exposure to glass coated with a 4 mg litre−1 spinosad solution. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A methomyl sugar bait formulation and permethrin residual spray were compared for the control of a multi-insecticide resistant strain of housefly in a UK pig farm. The methomyl was applied as a granular scatter bait at the manufacturer's recommended rate of 25 mg m?2 active ingredient (a.i.) to the treated floor area. Permethrin was applied at 32, 64 and 128 mg m?2 a.i. to structural surfaces. The highest deposit rate of permethrin used was four times that recommended by the manufacturer for the control of flying insects. The methomyl bait gave effective control but the permethrin spray failed at all deposit rates tested. The use of permethrin increased resistance to this compound at the KD50 level from x 13 to x 560 within 10 weeks and significantly increased the proportion of flies resistant to natural pyrethrins synergised with piperonyl butoxide (P<0.01).  相似文献
