The phenology of 5- and 6-year old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) trees was studied over two different growing seasons (1993 and 94) in southwest Georgia. These trees were from 7–9 open-pollinated families from each of four different provenances planted at two locations. The provenances were: Atlantic Coastal Plain (eastern SC), Gulf Hammock (north FL), Lower Gulf (south AL, MS) and Upper Gulf (north AL, MS). Provenances did not vary as to when height growth started in spring, but showed very significant differences for the date of growth cessation in fall. The Gulf Hammock source grew the most and also had the longest height growth period, while the Upper Gulf source was first to stop height growth and had the least annual height increment. Provenances were also significantly different for the date of cessation of diameter growth (a difference of 22 days between Gulf Hammock and Upper Gulf), and the order of cessation was the same as for height. Families within provenances were significantly different for date of cessation of height growth and diameter growth. When family means were considered across provenances, there was a correlation of 0.69 (p-value = 0.0001) between annual height increment and date of height growth cessation. There was a weaker association between faster growth and a longer growing season within provenances. 相似文献

Containerized black spruce (Picea mariana [Mill.] B.S.P.) seedlings of three different sizes (small, medium, and large) were planted in raised sand beds maintained under wet, moderately dry or dry watering regimes during the growing season. The small seedlings were of a conventional stock type. The two larger sizes were novel stock types grown in larger containers. Physiological measurements during the summer showed that the small and medium seedlings maintained nearly similar levels of gas exchanges and water status, but that the large seedlings had reduced net photosynthesis and stomatal conductance under all watering regimes. Analysis of dry masses showed comparable relative growth rates in the small and medium seedlings, but a small to null growth in the large seedlings. Examination of root relative growth rate under wet conditions revealed significant root growth in small and medium seedlings, but negligible growth in the large seedlings. It was concluded that increasing the shoot size of containerized seedlings can be achieved without increasing the susceptibility of the seedlings to water stress, as long as the vigour of the root system is maintained. 相似文献

We describe the relationships among patterns of abundance of galls, survivorship, and mortality factors in the sexual generation
of a cynipid wasp, Andricus moriokae, and detail the impacts of abundant parasitoid species on the survivorship of the cynipid in relation to the abundance patterns
of galls. The mean number of galls per shoot, the frequency distribution of number of galls on a single shoot, and the mean
number of galls per shoot in respective shoot size classes (the number of leaves per shoot) did not differ significantly between
two sample trees. The relative impacts of the three mortality factors differed between trees, having different consequences
for the survivorship of the cynipid. The rate of parasitoid attack, the main cause of mortality, was higher in the tree on
which the cynipids survived better. On the other hand, the mortalities caused by gall predation and gall abortion were higher
in the tree with the lower survival rate of the cynipid. Galls appeared more frequently on larger shoots on both trees. However,
the survival rate and the mortality rates caused by three mortality factors did not differ among shoot size classes within
each tree. The species composition of the parasitoid assemblage changed with shoot size, but the patterns of change differed
between trees with similar abundance patterns of galls. Thus, the survivorship and mortality factors of the cynipid were probably

In Finland, under nursery conditions hybrid aspen may continue their shoot growth until early September. Thus, frost hardening is usually delayed. To solve this problem, we used a three-week period of short-day (SD) treatment between late July and mid-August. During autumn after frost exposure, frost hardiness (FH) was assessed three times with a stem-browning test. The re-sults showed that after SD treatment shoot growth ceased and FH increased when compared to untreated hybrid aspen. Furthermore, the height of SD-treated hybrid aspen varied much less than that of the control plants. We conclude that SD treatment in the nursery during the growing period can be used as a supplementary method for producing well-hardened and uniform hybrid aspen plants. 相似文献

One-year-old shoots from stooling beds of Populus × deltoides Walker and Populus jackii Northwest were collected in late fall to determine the effect of cutting position on rooting and growth of hardwood poplar cuttings. Cuttings with a minimum diameter of 9.0 mm were obtained from basal, middle and distal locations on the poplar shoot. Rooting and shoot growth were assessed in the greenhouse and under field conditions. Walker poplar cuttings collected from basal portions of the shoot and planted in the field had 87.6% rooting and 103.8 cm growth compared to 78.8% and 103.4 cm and 67.6% and 88.8 cm for middle and distal locations respectively. For Northwest rooting and growth under field conditions was 84.4% and 94.7 cm for basal, 78.4% and 90.5 cm for mid and 64.4% and 84.3 cm for distal locations. Rooting in the greenhouse was superior to the field. Walker cuttings had fewer roots and buds per cutting than Northwest, however, growth of Walker in the field was superior. 相似文献

Abstract This transect study in 41–178 year-old stands of Lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta DOUGL. ex. LOUD.) in the southern boreal forest of British Columbia, Canada, analyses how site conditions modify the coarse root–shoot dynamics of trees. The allometric relationship between diameter growth of coarse roots and trunk is scrutinised for long-term site dependence, and short-term reactions to periodic climate conditions. Along a gradient from poor to rich sites, we analysed 54 trees. The sampling scheme provided two increment cores each from the three main roots and the shoot at breast height per tree. From the year-ring series, we calculated diameter time series for each shoot and each root. With these data, we show (1) that the trees’ coarse root diameter and shoot diameter are linearly related in a double-logarithmic coordinate system, thus representing constant allometry on the long run. Statistical analysis of these long-term trajectories reveals that (2) the relative allocation to coarse roots versus shoot is much higher on poor sites compared to rich sites. A closer look at the short-term reaction to stress events in the period from 1995 to 2000, where several dry years occurred, underpins that (3) a lack of water supply triggers biomass allocation in favour of coarse roots at the expense of shoot growth most pronouncedly on poor sites. Implications of this morphological plasticity for allometric theory, method development, tree and stand dynamics and carbon storage assessment are discussed. 相似文献

I examined the adult potential fecundity of the bamboo gall maker,Aiolomorphus rhopaloides Walker (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae), and its inquiline,Diomorus aiolomorphi Kamijo (Hymenoptera: Torymidae) by dissection just after emergence, and at death after rearing. Emerging females ofA. rhopaloides hadca. 80 mature eggs in their ovaries. The number of eggs at emergence and after death at rearing was not significantly different.
However, emerging females ofD. aiolomorphi had no eggs in their ovaries but hadca 20 eggs at death after rearing. These results suggest thatA. rhopaloides is pro-ovigenic andD. aiolomorphi is synovigenic. Female body sizes of both species were positively correlated with the size of galls from which each emerged.
Number of eggs in each species was also correlated with female body size, suggesting that gall size might be a good predictor
of potential fecundity.

通过对毛环竹林分、单株生物量及其结构特征调查分析,结果表明:毛环竹林分生物量在一定范围内随着密度的提高而增大,在密度为10800~12900株·hm-2时生物量最大,地上部分可达到50t·hm-2以上,地下部分可达到30t·hm-2以上。各器官生物量分配为:地上部分生物量秆>枝>叶,其比例大致是6∶3∶2或2∶1∶1;地上部分>地下部分,其比例变化幅度在1 183~1 784之间。毛环竹单株生物量与胸径、竹高呈正相关,在生产实践中可用模型W=aDbHc进行估测,其精度达95%以上。 相似文献

沙枣(Elaeagnus angustifolia L.)作为有重要价值的燃料能源林树种,平茬是其利用的主要途径。研究了沙枣距地面0cm、5cm、10cm^3种高度平茬后的年生长变化及萌条的数量与质量。结果表明,沙枣丛高7、8、9三个月生长最快,3种平茬处理下丛高年生长量分别为147.84、145.88、136.04cm,极显著大于未平茬丛高年生长量。比较萌条的高径生长指标,发现距地面0cm平茬〉距地面5cm平茬〉距地面10cm平茬;而萌条总数:距地面10cm平茬〉距地面5cm平茬〉距地面0cm平茬。 相似文献

Planting stock type and quality can have an important impact on early growth rates of plantations. The goal of this study was to evaluate early growth and root/shoot development of different planting materials in typical heavy clay soils of northwestern Quebec. Using one-year-old bareroot hybrid poplar dormant stock, four planting materials were compared: (1) regular bareroot stock, (2) rootstock (stem pruned before planting), (3) whips (roots pruned before planting), and (4) cuttings (30 cm stem sections taken from the basal portion of bareroot trees, i.e. roots and shoot pruned). Rooted stock types (bareroot and rootstock) produced, on average, 1.2 times larger trees than unrooted stock types (cuttings and whips). However, shoot-pruned stock types (rootstocks and cuttings) reached similar heights and basal diameters as unpruned stock types (bareroots and whips), during the first growing season. Shoot pruning reduced leaf carbon isotopic ratios, suggesting that unpruned stock types were water-stressed during the first growing season. The stress was most likely caused by early leaf development while root growth occurred later in the summer. We conclude that shoot pruning bareroot stock is a useful management option to reduce planting stress without compromising early growth rates of hybrid poplars. 相似文献

研究了不同种源、家系落羽杉扦插繁殖生根能力的遗传变异。结果表明,落羽杉嫩枝扦插一般7d开始产生愈伤组织,15d开始发根。活条率、生根率、发根数、不定根总长、生根力指数和抽梢长度等6个性状在种源、家系间均有显著或极显著差异。1600号、401号、502号和鸡公山种源是生长和生根能力兼优的种源家系。500×10-6NAA快浸可以显著提高落羽杉种源扦插生根率。同时还分析了扦插生根性状间及生根力与母树生长间的相关关系。 相似文献

研究发现在MS培养基中添加6-BA 3 mg.L-1+IBA 0.5 mg.L-1的激素对小油桐苗质及外植体分化有明显促进作用。15 d苗龄的小油桐幼苗外植体有较高的分化率。正交实验研究最佳分化激素浓度,发现6-BA+IBA组合对小油桐外植体芽苗诱导效果明显优于6-BA+NAA组合。子叶再生芽诱导最佳培养基为MS+6-BA 3 mg.L-1+IBA 0.5 mg.L-1,最高诱导率为82.9%;下胚轴再生芽诱导最佳培养基为MS+6-BA 2 mg.L-1+IBA 0.2 mg.L-1诱导率为23.8%。在子叶和下胚轴再生培养基中添加1 mg.L-1的AgNO3能促进小油桐植株再生,并抑制褐化产生。小油桐再生苗最佳生根培养基为WPM培养基。 相似文献

为了给苹果园土壤水分管理提供依据,以‘长富2’苹果为试材,选取粘壤土平地、粘壤土梯田、壤土平地、壤土梯田、沙土平地、沙土梯田、上层壤土、下层尾矿砂平地7种不同立地、土壤类型苹果园,研究其对土壤含水量及苹果新梢生长的影响。结果表明:不同时期粘壤土平地的土壤含水量均极显著高于沙土平地、沙土梯田、上层壤土下层尾矿砂平地的土壤含水量,沙土平地、沙土梯田的土壤含水量均极显著低于其他立地、土壤类型。各立地、土壤类型长、中、短新梢均只有一次生长,迅速生长期基本一致,在4月初到5月底;除沙土平地和沙土梯田类型外,其他5种立地、土壤类型徒长新梢均出现了二次生长,第1次迅速生长期与其他新梢一致,第2次生长期在7月至8月。不同立地、土壤类型土壤含水量与苹果各类新梢长度均呈正相关,达到显著相关水平的时期多出现在新梢生长高峰期,其中,4月22日至5月13日,壤土梯田、沙土平地的土壤含水量与长梢长度的相关系数分别为0.968、0.966,5月14日至5月31日,壤土梯田的土壤含水量与徒长新梢长度的相关系数为0.986,壤土平地的土壤含水量与长梢长度的相关系数为0.980。 相似文献

Virulence and mycotoxic effects of Metarhizium anisopliae on Mahogany shoot borer, Hypsipyla robusta (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Developing appropriate control measures for the Mahogany shoot borer,Hypsipyla robusta Moore has become increasingly important due to the severe damaging effect of the pest on the establishment of the saplings of Swietenia mahagoni Jacq(Sapindales:Meliaceae).Existing management methods are largely limited to silvicultural practices and spraying of chemical insecticides.To identify a potential fungal biocontrol agent,we compared the virulence of six native and two standard ARSEF isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae Metsch.against this pest.The average survival time and conidial yield of IWST-Ma7 was higher(6.2 to 7.3 days and 4.9 to 4.7 × 10 5 conidia/ml) than the standards.Significant difference in sporulation on the cadavers between isolates,doses and incubation periods were substantiated for the selection of potential strain.The mycotoxic effects of crude soluble protein extract when incorporated in the artificial diet,the ARSEF 2596 and ARSEF 3603 showed LD 50 value of 3.7% and 5.6%.However,IWST-Ma7 was highly lethal with significant lowest LD 50 value of 2.6%.The enzyme activity of IWST-Ma7 was highest for chitinase,CDA,protease and lipase viz.,1.90 U/mg,1.80 U/mg,0.98 U/mg and 0.80 U/mg respectively.However the enzyme activity of chitinase and Chitin deacetylase assay for all the isolates was significantly higher than protease and lipase activity.The ITS regions(5.8S rDNA and 28S rDNA) of seven isolates of M.anisopliae were amplified using the ITS1 and ITS4 primers which was a unique fragment of approximately 550 bp.Based on ITS regions,phylogenetic tree have been constructed and the isolates have been grouped in to 5 clades.The virulence and mycotoxic effects of different isolates could rationally be used to employ them for the management of the mahogany borer. 相似文献
