To characterize the 22:6 n-3 (docosahexaenoic acid, DHA) levels of the oriental bonito Sarda orientalis, a coastal migratory tuna species, total lipids (TL) of white muscle, dark muscle, liver, pyloric cecum, gonad, and other viscera were separated into lipid classes, the constituents of TL were quantified, and the fatty acid composition of TL, triacylglycerols (TAG), phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylcholine was analyzed. The crude lipid contents of muscle and other organs were 0.8–3.2% and 2.3–9.1%, respectively. DHA was found in TL of various organs at levels ranging from 19.2% to 27.6% in muscle and 16.3% to 28.5% in other organs. The levels of DHA in muscle TAG (8.2–16.0%) were lower than or comparable to those in visceral TAG (6.9–24.0%). These findings did not coincide with those observed in active-migratory tuna species, which accumulate DHA in their muscle TAG during migration. These findings suggest that the DHA distribution of S. orientalis is different from that observed in active-migratory tuna species, and that the differences may be due to migration type of the fish.  相似文献

Trypsin from the viscera of Bogue (Boops boops) was purified to homogeneity by precipitation with ammonium sulphate, Sephadex G-100 gel filtration and Mono Q-Sepharose anion exchange chromatography, with an 8.5-fold increase in specific activity and 36% recovery. The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was estimated to be 23 kDa by SDS–PAGE and size exclusion chromatography. The purified trypsin appeared as a single band on native-PAGE and zymography staining. The purified enzyme showed esterase-specific activity on N-α-benzoyl-l-arginine ethyl ester (BAEE) and amidase activity on N-α-benzoyl-dl-arginine-p-nitroanilide (BAPNA). The optimum pH and temperature for the enzyme activity, after 10 min incubation, were pH 9.0 and 55°C, respectively, using BAPNA as a substrate. The trypsin kinetic constants K m and k cat on BAPNA were 0.13 mM and 1.56 s−1, respectively, while the catalytic efficiency k cat /K m was 12 s−1 mM−1. Biochemical characterisation of B. boops trypsin showed that this enzyme can be used as a possible biotechnological tool in the fish processing and food industries.  相似文献

The copepod, Calanus finmarchicus, has potential as a new ingredient in practical feeds for marine fish. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the nutritional value of C. finmarchicus meals when fed to juvenile Atlantic halibut. The first study determined protein, lipid and energy digestibility coefficients of four C. finmarchicus meals prepared under different processing conditions. The second study evaluated growth and nutrient utilization efficiency of juveniles fed diets containing varying proportions of fish meal, plant meals and C. finmarchicus meal. Moisture, ash, protein, lipid and gross energy contents of the C. finmarchicus meals were 28–93, 74–138, 505–648, 123–269 g kg−1, and 21–26 MJ kg−1, respectively. Protein, lipid and energy digestibilities of C. finmarchicus meals were 91–99%, 90–95% and 90–99%. The digestibilities significantly decreased for the Calanus meals processed at higher temperatures. During the growth study, halibut fed a diet containing 240 g kg−1 C. finmarchicus meal had significantly higher weight gain and growth rate than all other groups. Nitrogen and energy retention efficiencies ranged between 35–45% and 33–43%, and were significantly higher for fish fed 160–240 g kg−1 C. finmarchicus meal than for fish fed plant protein and control diets. The results indicate that growth and nutrient utilization efficiency are improved in Atlantic halibut fed diets supplemented with C. finmarchicus meal.  相似文献

The influence of diet on growth and biochemical composition of cultured Octopus vulgaris was investigated. Octopuses were reared in a open recirculation seawater system and during the experiment were kept apart in cages. Experiment lasted 30 days. Three experimental dietary groups were established: group I (mixed diet: Carcinus mediterraneus, Boops boops and Mytilus galloprovincialis), group II (monodiet on B. boops) and group III (monodiet on M. galloprovincialis). The best results were obtained with the monodiet based on bogue that gave a weight gain of 390.65 ± 37.54, an absolute growth rate of 13.02 g day−1 and feed efficiency of 44.79 ± 0.96%. Regarding to biochemical composition, the mussel-fed and bogue-fed groups showed the highest protein content. Animals fed on bogue also showed the highest carbohydrate content, while the lowest value was observed in the mussels-fed group. The lipid content was found to be very low in all dietary groups. Saturated fatty acids were the most abundant fatty acid class, ranging from 58.22% in wild octopuses to 46.83% in bogues-fed octopuses. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) were the second most abundant fatty acids class in all dietary treatments (25.65–37.00% as a per cent of total FAs) except in octopuses fed with mussels. MUFAs ranged from 11.44 to 26.93% of total FAs. Although it is empirically known that a varied diet better covers the nutritional requirements than a monodiet, the results of this study reveal that a monodiet of B. boops may be used.  相似文献

The lack of specific compound diets for cephalopods is limiting the industrial development of some species. In this study, four agglutinated moist diets were tested in individually reared Octopus vulgaris (979 ± 151 g) for 8 weeks. All diets were based on bogue Boops boops, accidentally reared in fish farms (aquaculture by‐product), and agglutinated with alginate and calcium. One diet was based exclusively on bogue fillets, two on bogue fillets complemented with meat from two crab species (Portunus pelagicus, Grapsus grapsus) and the last one on bogue and G. grapsus meals. As a control diet, bogue and P. pelagicus were supplied fresh on alternate days. All diets induced similar feed intake (2.1–2.6% day?1). However, the meal‐based diet induced negative growth in comparison with the control and the other agglutinated diets (0.80–0.85% day?1). Higher lipid content in agglutinated diets (28–30% dw) in comparison with the control diet (16% dw) led to higher protein retention in muscle. These results underline the inadequacy of traditional meals in diets for cephalopods and that the inclusion of crab meat did not increase feeding rates and growth in O. vulgaris. The dietary fatty acid, with high levels of oleic and linoleic acid and low levels of ARA, clearly reflected in digestive gland, while only decreasing ARA and increasing EPA levels were observed in muscle, with no apparent negative effect on growth.  相似文献

Juvenile cobia (Rachycentron canadum) (total length 15.16 ± 0.92 cm and weight 19.26 ± 4.5 g) were exposed to different concentrations of ammonia–N (unionized plus ionized ammonia as nitrogen), using the static renewal method at different salinity levels of 5, 20, and 35‰ at pH 8.1 and 25°C. The 24, 48, 72, 96 h LC50 values of ammonia–N for R. canadum juveniles were 60.28, 48.57, 37.42, 22.73 mg l−1 at 35‰; 51.25, 43.63, 28.17, 19.05 mg l−1 at 20‰; and 39.48, 25.31, 19.50, 8.13 mg l−1 at 5‰, respectively. The 24, 48, 72, 96 h LC50 values of NH3–N (unionized ammonia as nitrogen) were 1.81, 1.46, 1.12, and 0.68 mg l−1 at 35‰; 1.75, 1.49, 0.96, and 0.65 mg l−1 at 20‰; and 1.52, 0.97, 0.71, and 0.31 mg l−1 at 5‰, respectively. As the salinity decreased from 35 to 5‰, susceptibility of ammonia–N increased by 34.5, 47.88, 50.56, and 64.23% after 24, 48, 72, and 96 h exposure, respectively. Furthermore, we found that exposure of fish to ammonia–N caused an increase in oxygen consumption of 129.1, 157.5, and 192% and a decrease in the ammonia excretion level of 53.4, 38.2, and 23.3% with respect to the control.  相似文献

The effects of different diets (natural or pellets) on growth, survival, and moulting interval of juvenile spider crabs, weighing between 0.011–1.56 g and up to 17.6 mm in carapace length, were tested over a period of 90 days. During experiment I, five diets were tested: (1) frozen shrimp—Paleomonetes sp., (2) fresh mussels—Mytilus sp., (3) white fish fillets—Merlucius merlucius, (4) blue fish fillets—Sardina pilchardus, and (5) commercial crustacean pellets. Spider crabs fed fresh mussels grew larger (0.98 ± 0.69 g) and had higher growth rates (4.0 ± 0.7 %BWd−1) compared to the other four diets. The crabs fed shrimp pellet and frozen shrimp grew to intermediate sizes and were smaller than the ones fed fresh mussels, but they were larger than spider crabs fed either blue or white fish fillets (0.46 ± 0.63 and 0.26 ± 0.13 g, respectively) compared to the ones fed white fish fillets (0.12 ± 0.04) and blue fish fillets (0.04 ± 0.02 g). The spider crabs fed blue fish fillets only lasted until day 60 of the experiment, after this day none of the 20 fed this diet were left. During experiment II, two diets were tested: (1) white and blue fish fillets and (2) commercial fish pellet. There were no differences in growth both in weight or carapace length (2.9 ± 1.8 and 2.1 ± 1.5 g in weight, and 18.9 ± 5.0 and 17.7 ± 3.3 mm, respectively) at the end of the experiment. Similarly, there were no differences in growth rates in weight between the two diets (1.2 ± 0.4 and 0.9 ± 0.3 %BWd−1, respectively) or in carapace length (0.4 ± 0.1 and 0.4 ± 0.2 %BWd−1, respectively). Fresh mussel appears to be a very good diet to culture the early stages of this species, while shrimp pellets also deliver acceptable results. On the contrary, frozen shrimp, fish fillets either from blue or white species (much higher lipid content in the blue species), and fish pellets were found to be bad diets for the culture of the early stages of M. brachydactyla.  相似文献

The present study aimed at investigating the effects of Nerium indicum leaf extract on the blood electrolytes of Heteropneustes fossilis for short- and long term. Fish were subjected to Nerium indicum leaf extract for short term (11.27 mg/L i.e. 0.8 of 96 h LC50) and long term (2.81 mg/L i.e. 0.2 of 96 h LC50). Fish were killed on each time intervals from control and experimental (Nerium indicum) groups after 24, 48, 72, and 96 h in short-term exposure and after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days in long-term experiment. Blood samples were analyzed for calcium and inorganic phosphate levels. Acute exposure of Nerium indicum leaf extract caused a progressive decrease in the serum calcium levels after 48 h in fish H. fossilis, which persists till the close of the experiment (96 h). The serum inorganic phosphate levels remain unaffected till 48 h in the Nerium indicum leaf extract–exposed fish. After 72 and 96 h, the levels exhibit a decrease. Chronic Nerium indicum leaf extract treatment provoked a decrease in serum calcium levels at day 14. This decrease continues till 28 days. The serum phosphate level of the Nerium indicum leaf extract–treated fish decreases on day 14 and 21. However, on day 28, the levels become close to the normal values. We conclude that Nerium indicum leaf extract exposure alters the blood electrolytes of the fish, thus causing physiological disturbances which might affect seriously the normal vital functions, growth rate, reproduction, and their survival in nature.  相似文献

Habitat utilization, feeding, and growth of a rare pleuronectid flatfish, spotted halibut Verasper variegatus, were examined in a brackish lagoon in northeastern Japan: Matsukawa-ura. The distribution and date–length data of spotted halibut collected mainly from beam-trawl samplings during 1983–2008 indicated that age-0 juveniles [n = 25, 6.0–18.0 cm total length (TL)] and older spotted halibut (n = 71, 13.8–43.0 cm TL) inhabited almost the entire northern part of Matsukawa-ura. Comparative distribution surveys of spotted halibut, stone flounder, and marbled flounder during 1985–1989 revealed similar distribution patterns of these flatfishes; the highest densities were found around the central part of Matsukawa-ura, although significantly lower abundance was detected for spotted halibut. Linear growth equations of age-0 juveniles demonstrated that spotted halibut were able to achieve high growth after June, probably because abundant prey (e.g., mysids and gammarids) and suitable physical conditions (warmer water temperature and lower salinity) were present. The main prey items shifted from various crustaceans including mysids, caridean shrimps, and anomurans to brachyura Hemigrapsus spp. (≥20 cm TL). Our study shows that spotted halibut use the shallow brackish lagoon as an important nursery for juveniles, and also as a feeding ground for young and adults.  相似文献

Larvae of the Siamese fighting fish Betta splendens were reared on the mass-cultured small freshwater rotifer Brachionus angularis Laos strain (UTAC-Lao), Paramecia sp., and Artemia as live food sources. Larvae fed live food were found to have a significantly high survival rate (97.5–100%) 18 days after hatch (DAH) in comparison to the control unfed larvae, which died by 12 DAH. Rotifer-fed larvae were found to grow faster than paramecia-fed larvae. The fastest growth rate was observed in larvae fed a combination of rotifer and Artemia, with growth in these larvae increasing by 282% by 18 DAH [total length (TL) 11.3 ± 1.2 mm] relative to body measurements taken 3 DAH. The next fastest growth rate was observed in rotifer-fed larvae, with a 158% increase in growth observed by 18 DAH (TL 7.6 ± 0.5 mm). The paramecia-fed larvae were found to grow by only 54.3% (TL 4.6 ± 0.1 mm) during the same period.  相似文献

A 6‐week feeding trial was conducted to examine the effect of feeding frequency on growth, feed utilization efficiency, body composition and waste output of juvenile golden pompano Trachinotus ovatus reared in net pens. Fish (10.3 ± 0.5 g) were either fed a formulated diet containing 48.4% crude protein and 5.7% crude lipid at 0.5, 1, 2, 3 or 4 meals per day or fed a raw fish feed at two meals per day as a control. The weight gain (WG) increased with increasing feeding frequency from 0.5 to 3 meals per day (P < 0.05), but did not significantly change with the further increase in feeding frequency from 3 to 4 meals per day (P > 0.05). The feed intake (FI) was lower in fish fed at 0.5 or 1 meal per day than in fish fed at 2, 3 or 4 meals per day (P < 0.05). No significant differences were found in the feed conversion ratio (FCR), nitrogen retention efficiency (NRE), condition factor (CF), nitrogen waste output (NWO) and phosphorus waste output (PWO) between fish fed at 1, 2, 3 or 4 meals per day (P > 0.05), whereas no significant difference was found in the phosphorus retention efficiency (PRE) among the feeding treatments (P > 0.05). The body lipid content increased, whereas the contents of moisture and ash decreased, with the increase in feeding frequency (P < 0.05). At the same feeding frequency, fish fed the formulated diet exhibited lower FI, FCR, HSI, body moisture content, NWO and PWO, but higher NRE, PRE, body lipid content and body phosphorus content than those of fish fed the raw fish feed (P < 0.05). These results suggest that the formulated diet can satisfy nutrient requirements of juvenile golden pompano reared in net pens, and the suitable feeding frequency is 3 meals per day.  相似文献

The effect of trawling on fish size and on different quality parameters of cod (Gadus morhua) and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) was evaluated after conducting 16 valid hauls using two trawls in a double rig fitted with a traditional and a novel ‘T90’ codend, respectively. The total catch volume during the fishing period was 47.6 metric tons, with an average catch per codend of 1.5 (range 0.5–2.9) tons. The mean haul duration was 5 h. The catch was assessed according to fish size, mortality, external damage, initial white muscle pH and development of rigor mortis. Fillet quality (colour, blood spots, gaping) was assessed after 1 week of freeze-storage. Our results showed there was no difference between the two types of nets in terms of catch volume, but significantly slightly bigger fish were caught with T90 than with the traditional trawl net (p < 0.05). Haddock caught with the traditional trawl net had more external injuries related to the trawl gear than haddock caught with the T90 gear (p < 0.05). The gaping frequency for cod caught with the traditional trawl net tended to be higher than cod caught with the T90 gear, but the difference was not significant (p = 0.07). No other differences in fish quality between fish caught in the trawl nets were observed.  相似文献

Anguilla luzonensis, a new species of freshwater eel, family Anguillidae, is described on the basis of 29 specimens collected from the Pinacanauan River system, which is a tributary of the Cagayan River on northern Luzon Island of the Philippines. The new species and A. celebesensis, which is distributed in the same region, both have variegated color marking and broad maxillary bands of teeth, but show statistically significant differences in the following characters of the new species: predorsal-fin length 28.6–33.1% of total length (TL); preanal length 39.6–44.8% of TL; trunk length 26.4–31.3% of TL; distance between the verticals through the anus and origin of the dorsal fin 9.3–13.9% of TL; length of gape 35.5–46.9% of head length; the total number of vertebrae 103–107; and number of abdominal vertebrae 40–42. These morphological differences, together with the present knowledge about anguillid eel taxonomy, genetics, and ecology, strongly support the presence of the new species A. luzonensis in the area of northern Luzon Island of the Philippines.  相似文献

European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, is one of the main species cultured in Europe. In this study, non-invasive techniques such as visible-near infrared spectroscopy and dynamometric analysis were used to discriminate concrete tank–cultured sea bass from sea cage–cultured sea bass. A total of 198 samples were collected at six time points from 3 Italian fish farms. A partial least squares analysis was conducted on individual animals at 48 and 96 h post-mortem to determine whether textural and spectral parameters can discriminate between concrete tank– and sea cage–reared sea bass. The results of this analysis demonstrated that spectral measurements better discriminate individual animals at 48 h post-mortem (87% in the independent test) with respect to 96 h post-mortem (66.7% in the independent test). Differences in texture were observed between the two groups of fish, but the texture changed in the time. The texture in sea cage–cultured fish showed higher values of measured force (N) with respect to fish reared in concrete tanks at 48 h post-mortem. Instead, opposite results were observed at 96 h post-mortem. Fillet colour were influenced by both farm and rearing condition.  相似文献

A 120-day experiment was performed with 4-month-old juvenile tench [initial mean weight: 0.31 g; total length (TL): 32 mm] to evaluate live Artemia nauplii as supplement to a dry diet for salmonids. All groups received the dry diet. Five treatments, differing in the amount of supplemented Artemia, were tested: without supplement, 450, 900, and 1,800 nauplii g−1 initial fish biomass, and nauplii in excess. Groups that received Artemia supplement had significantly higher survival (between 89.4 and 98.7%) compared to those that received dry diet alone (49.2%), while among them there was no significant difference. Juvenile tench fed the dry diet supplemented with Artemia in excess had a specific growth rate (1.98), weight (3.40 g), and TL (63.90 mm) significantly higher than those in the rest of the treatments. The latter three features were not significantly different under limited co-feeding (450, 900, and 1,800 nauplii g−1 biomass) averaging 1.26 specific growth rate, 1.40 g weight, and 48.50 mm TL. Tench fed the dry diet alone grew significantly less than the rest. Thus, the drawbacks of feeding juvenile tench with dry foods originally formulated for other fish species can be overcome by providing a supplement of Artemia nauplii.  相似文献

Three isoproteic (47% protein) diets were formulated to contain graded levels of crude fat (diet D16:16%, diet D24: 24% and diet D32: 32%). Each diet was fed to satiation in three and to 80% satiation in two replicate groups of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), having an initial body weight of 72–74 g. The trial lasted 81 days. Groups fed to satiation showed higher final body weight (FBW; 238.8–252.3 g vs. 218.0–229.3 g) and daily growth index (DGI; 2.49–2.65%/day vs. 2.27–2.34%/day) than those fed to 80% satiation. Feed intake was significantly different both for feeding level and for diet composition. Fish fed to satiation had higher feed conversion rate (FCR) compared to the 80% satiation groups (1.33–1.44 vs. 1.13–1.17; P ≤ 0.001). Within satiation groups, FCR was significantly lower in fish fed D16 compared to fish fed D32 (1.33 vs. 1.44, P ≤ 0.05), whereas no statistical differences were found within the 80% satiation groups. The increase in dietary lipid level did not improve growth performance, feed efficiency and protein utilization but decreased gross lipid efficiency. Conversely, a reduction in ration from satiation to 80% satiation decreased DGI, thus improving FCR. Feed costs were influenced by dietary energy level and feeding ratio, the lowest energy diet at 80% satiation being the most profitable combination among the variables.  相似文献

The effects of feeding three natural frozen diets, grass shrimp (Palaemonetes sp.), crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) and fish (Sardina pilchardus) and two semi-humid artificial diets (based on fish powder) to mature cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis, were analysed. Growth and feeding rates (GR and FR, % BW day−1), food conversions (FC, %), and total protein and lipid composition of the diets were determined. Digestive gland to body weight ratio and absorption efficiency were calculated for each diet. Cuttlefish fed shrimp and crayfish grew larger (1.5 and 1.1% BW day−1, respectively) compared to the other diets. Shrimp promoted the highest FC, followed by crayfish, and sardine. The highest FR was obtained for cuttlefish fed crayfish (8.4% BW day−1). Although both artificial diets were accepted, none produced growth. A positive correlation (r = 0.96) between cuttlefish ingestion rate and digestive gland weight was obtained. Some cannibalism occurred among cuttlefish fed the artificial diets during the last week of the experiment. According to the results obtained, P. clarkii could be used as an alternative prey to shrimp for rearing adult mature (>50 g) S. officinalis.  相似文献

Static-renewal bioassays [Methods for acute toxicity tests with fish, macro-invertebrates and amphibians: USEPA, ERS, EPA 660/3 75-009 (1975)] were carried out on Esomus danricus exposed to sub-lethal (0.55 mg/l) and lethal (5.5 mg/l) concentrations of copper. The 96-h median lethal concentration (LC50) was 5.5 mg/l. Biochemical stress responses, such as visceral superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities, were measured during this 96-h period. Malondialdehyde, a product of lipid peroxidation, was present at elevated levels in the visceral tissue of copper-exposed fish. Copper was found to be highly toxic to the fish and induced significant declines (p < 0.05–0.001) in all of the biochemical profiles studied, demonstrating a linear and positive correlation with both the concentration and duration of exposure to copper. In E. danricus, CAT appeared to be more sensitive to copper exposure (p < 0.001) than SOD at both lethal and sub-lethal levels. These results indicate that antioxidant responses can be employed as biomarkers of oxidative stress for this species in aquatic environments contaminated with copper.  相似文献

The interaction of methyl-parathion with the albumin of Piaractus mesopotamicus (Holmberg 1887) (= pacu), a fish species typical of Brazilian rivers, was studied and the results compared with known values for human and bovine albumin obtained in an earlier investigation. Methyl-parathion (O,O-dimethyl O-p-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate) is an organophosphorous pesticide still used in agriculture and fish farming in many countries. The fluorescence quenching technique with tryptophan as a natural probe was used to detect for the presence of methyl-parathion. Fluorescence can be mathematically expressed by the Stern–Volmer equation to calculate quenching constants, and changes in the behavior of Stern–Volmer curves at different temperatures indicate the nature of the mechanism causing the quenching. Our results indicate that methyl-parathion forms a complex with fish albumin. The estimated association constant is 9.73 × 103 (± 4.9 × 102) M−1 at 25°C.  相似文献

Good knowledge of the spatial distribution of fish is critical to stock assessment and successful fisheries management. Depth is often the main gradient along which faunal changes occur when analyzing shelf and upper slope assemblages, and thus knowledge of the bathymetric distribution of fish species is of great importance. The depth distribution of 16 fish species (Chelidonichthys lucernus, Helicolenus dactylopterus, Hoplostethus mediterraneus, Lepidorhombus boscii, Lophius budegassa, Merlangius merlangus, Merluccius merluccius, Micromesistius poutassou, Mullus barbatus, Mullus surmuletus, Pagellus erythrinus, Peristedion cataphractum, Phycis blennoides, Serranus cabrilla, Trigla lyra, and Trisopterus minutus) of the Aegean and the Ionian Seas was evaluated by analyzing experimental bottom trawl data, using generalized additive modeling (GAM) techniques. A variety of bathymetric distribution patterns was observed. The main bathymetric zone of each species was defined based on the modeled relative density. Specifically, the lower and upper limits of the main bathymetric zone of each species were defined as the depths where the estimated relative density of the species becomes less than 1% of the maximum. This definition is proposed as a better and more informative alternative than reporting the minimum and maximum depths of encounter.  相似文献
