Previous research has shown that spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) regularly survive exposure to deadly pathogens such as rabies, canine distemper virus, and anthrax, suggesting that they have robust immune defenses. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) recognize conserved molecular patterns and initiate a wide range of innate and adaptive immune responses. TLR genes are evolutionarily conserved, and assessing TLR expression in various tissues can provide insight into overall immunological organization and function. Studies of the hyena immune system have been minimal thus far due to the logistical and ethical challenges of sampling and preserving the immunological tissues of this and other long-lived, wild species. Tissue samples were opportunistically collected from captive hyenas humanely euthanized for a separate study. We developed primers to amplify partial sequences for TLRs 1–10, sequenced the amplicons, compared sequence identity to those in other mammals, and quantified TLR expression in lymph nodes, spleens, lungs, and pancreases. Results show that hyena TLR DNA and protein sequences are similar to TLRs in other mammals, and that TLRs 1–10 were expressed in all tissues tested. This information will be useful in the development of new assays to understand the interactions among the hyena immune system, pathogens, and the microbial communities that inhabit hyenas.  相似文献

'Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis' is a feline hemoplasma species that was isolated in a cat with hemolytic anemia. PCR has been widely used to investigate and diagnose 'Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis' infection, but so far, little is known about the humoral immune response in infected cats. Recently, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) were developed to monitor anti-feline hemoplasma antibodies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the humoral immune response in cats experimentally infected with 'Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis' and to monitor the influence of the pre-administration of methylprednisolone and subsequent antibiotic treatment. Serum and plasma samples from 15 specified pathogen-free cats infected with 'Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis' were analyzed by ELISA. Seroconversion was demonstrated in all cats, and the antibodies remained detectable until the end of the study (up to 100 weeks post-exposure). In some cats, the ELISA seemed more sensitive and better able to demonstrate exposure to 'Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis' than PCR. The peak antibody level occurred after the peak of the bacterial blood loads. The methylprednisolone administrations were associated with increased antibody levels, while antibiotic treatment, particularly with doxycycline, resulted in a decrease in antibody levels. Additionally, preliminary data indicated that three of four seropositive cats were protected from bacteremia after a subsequent challenge. In conclusion, the ELISA was found to be a useful tool to investigate the humoral immune response in hemoplasma-infected cats and a desirable addition to PCR to study the pathogenesis of hemoplasma infections.  相似文献

In a population of spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) monitored between 1996 and 2005 in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, 16 individuals from five of eight social groups displayed clinical signs of an infection, including severe unilateral swelling of the head followed by abscess formation at the mandibular angle, respiratory distress, mild ataxia, and lethargy. Two (12.5%) of these 16 individuals died within days of developing signs. Clinical signs in hyenas were first noted in 2001, and most cases occurred between September 2002 and February 2003, suggesting an outbreak of infection during this period. Histopathological examination of internal organs from one hyena that died with signs revealed morphological changes consistent with severe bacterial infection. Phenotypic examination and phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene of the causative agent of infection revealed a Lancefield group C Streptococcus with a high level of homology to S. equi subsp. ruminatorum, a subspecies of S. equi recently described in domestic sheep (Ovis aries) and goats (Capra hircus) with mastitis in Spain. Strains similar to this bacterium were also isolated from two hyenas without obvious clinical signs, suggesting that hyenas may be 'carriers' of this bacterium, and from a sympatric Burchell's zebra (Equus burchelli), a herbivore species often consumed by hyenas. To our knowledge this is the first report of a Streptococcus infection in these two wildlife species. The high genetic similarity between the hyena and zebra isolates indicates that inter-specific transmission may occur, possibly when hyenas consume infected zebra carcasses.  相似文献

Cellular and humoral immune responses of pigs inoculated with Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae were investigated at postinoculation weeks (PIW) 2, 4, and 6. The response of blood lymphocytes (BL) and bronchial lymph node lymphocytes (LNL) to stimulation by M hyopneumoniae antigens was evaluated by a lymphocyte-stimulation test. Specific antibodies in serum and lung washing samples were assayed by ELISA. Immunoglobulin-positive cells in lungs and bronchial lymph nodes were identified by indirect fluorescent antibody test, using isotype-specific monoclonal antibodies. At PIW 0 to 6, BL from control and M hyopneumoniae-inoculated pigs were stimulated by M hyopneumoniae cells; however, BL from inoculated pigs generally had higher stimulation indices, especially at PIW 6. The response of LNL was influenced by previous exposure to M hyopneumoniae, as indicated by higher stimulation indices (P less than 0.01) of LNL from inoculated pigs killed at PIW 2 and 6. Specific ELISA antibodies to M hyopneumoniae in lung washings from inoculated pigs consisted mainly of IgG and IgA isotypes. Examination of lung sections by indirect immunofluorescence revealed that cells producing IgM and IgA were in controls as well as M hyopneumoniae-inoculated pigs, but IgG-positive cells were only in lungs of inoculated pigs. Resolution of pneumonia appeared to correlate with development of increased sensitization of BL, as well as development of marked increases in immunoglobulins, particularly IgG in lung washings at PIW 6.  相似文献

Calves (7) were exposed to antigens of Micropolyspora faeni by the aerosol route for 9 weeks. The humoral immune response of calves to M faeni antigens was studied; immunoglobulins (Ig) E, G1, G2, A, and M were measured weekly in serum and nasal secretions by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Intradermal injection of antigen was performed during the 6th and 9th weeks; responses were evaluated at 30 minutes, 6 to 8 hours, 24, and 48 hours after injection. Total IgE levels in serum and nasal secretions, evaluated weekly, did not show any elevation. Micropolyspora faeni-specific IgE, IgA, IgG1, and IgG2, but not IgM, were produced by calves exposed to the antigen by the aerosol route; individual variability in magnitude of the response was marked. Thirty-minute skin tests were positive for cytotropic antibody in 2 of 3 aerosol-exposed calves by the 9th week, but delayed-type reactivity was not present. The ELISA test results were compared with those from sera of saline solution aerosol-exposed calves and from a parenterally immunized calf. Comparison of isotype-specific ELISA results obtained from M faeni aerosol-exposed calves with ELISA results from calves exposed to aerosolized ovalbumin according to a similar procedure indicated inherent problems in evaluating immune responses to environmental antigens. Aerosolized M faeni elicited a substantial antibody response. In particular, it is noteworthy that antigen-specific IgE responses were detected.  相似文献

Coronavirus infection of spotted hyenas in the Serengeti ecosystem   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Sera from 38 free-ranging spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) in the Serengeti ecosystem, Tanzania, were screened for exposure to coronavirus of antigenic group 1. An immunofluorescence assay indicated high levels of exposure to coronavirus among Serengeti hyenas: 95% when considering sera with titer levels of > or = 1:10 and 74% when considering sera with titer levels of > or = 1:40. Cubs had generally lower mean titer levels than adults. Exposure among Serengeti hyenas to coronavirus was also confirmed by a serum neutralisation assay and an ELISA. Application of RT-PCR to 27 fecal samples revealed viral RNA in three samples (11%). All three positive fecal samples were from the 15 juvenile animals (<24 months of age) sampled, and none from the 12 adults sampled. No viral RNA was detected in tissue samples (lymph node, intestine, lung) from 11 individuals. Sequencing of two amplified products from the S protein gene of a positive sample revealed the presence of coronavirus specific RNA with a sequence homology to canine coronavirus of 76 and 78% and to feline coronavirus type II of 80 and 84%, respectively. Estimation of the phylogenetic relationship among coronavirus isolates indicated considerable divergence of the hyena variant from those in European, American and Japanese domestic cats and dogs. From long-term observations of several hundred known individuals, the only clinical sign in hyenas consistent with those described for coronavirus infections in dogs and cats was diarrhea. There was no evidence that coronavirus infection in hyenas caused clinical signs similar to feline infectious peritonitis in domestic cats or was a direct cause of mortality in hyenas. To our knowledge, this is the first report of coronavirus infection in Hyaenidae.  相似文献

As scavengers, spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) are exposed to a wide array of pathogens but exhibit low mortality rates due to infectious disease. This suggests that this species exhibits a unique and robust immune response to pathogens. However, few tools exist to measure cell-mediated immunity (CMI) in hyenas and we aimed to develop a gene expression assay to quantify antigen-specific responses. Whole blood from five Mycobacterium bovis- sensitised hyenas was incubated in Nil and TB antigen tubes of the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold (QFT) system. Using qPCR, the relative expression stability of the reference genes ACTB, GAPDH, YWHAZ and TBP in these samples was determined as well as the mean fold change in the expression of IFNG, CXCL8, CXCL9, CXCL10 and CXCL11 in M. bovis-antigen stimulated blood. The expression of YWHAZ and TBP showed greatest stability, and YWHAZ was selected as a reference for further analysis. The expression of CXCL9 and CXCL11 showed greatest upregulation in antigen-stimulated blood and the assay results for these genes were strongly correlated. The measurement of antigen-induced CXCL9 and CXCL11 expression, relative to that of YWHAZ, can be used to measure CMI responses to infectious diseases in spotted hyenas.  相似文献

Thirteen strains of Streptococcus equi subsp. ruminatorum from free-ranging spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) and plains zebras (Equus burchelli) in Tanzania were characterized by biochemical and molecular-biological methods. Although the colony appearance of the S.e. ruminatorum wildlife strains differed from that of the S.e. ruminatorum type strain CECT 5772(T), all biochemical reactions of the wildlife strains were similar to those of the type strain. In addition, all wildlife strains produced hyaluronidase and were capable of hydrolysing arginine, three strains (23%) synthesized acetoin, but only eight strains (62%) produced acid from ribose. rep-PCR indicated that different clones of S.e. ruminatorum were distributed among the hyena and zebra populations in the study area. Identical rep-PCR patterns in hyena and zebra strains suggest that a direct transmission of S.e. ruminatorum between these species may occur. The presence of a M-like protein (SrM) gene was demonstrated in all S.e. ruminatorum strains including the type strain. Sequencing of the M-like protein gene revealed a hypervariable region within the deduced amino acid sequence. Most of the strains clustered with previously described strains based on the hypervariable region of the S.e. zooepidemicus SzP protein. Sequencing also demonstrated that identical SrM protein sequences were shared among S.e. ruminatorum strains from different host species.  相似文献

Monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) to bovine immunoglobulin heavy chain of the four major isotypes gamma 1, gamma 2, alpha, mu and the light chains (combined kappa and lambda) were produced and found to cross-react in enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) with immunoglobulins of some other animal species despite the discrete specificity associated with an antibody derived from a single clone. This cross-reactivity, particularly amongst ruminants, could be utilized in serological testing for the diagnosis of disease in these species. For example, Mabs produced against bovine immunoglobulin light chain cross-react with bison immunoglobulin light chain and were used successfully in serological testing as the secondary detection antibody in an indirect ELISA for the diagnosis of Brucella abortus in bison herds in north-western Canada.  相似文献

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) presents vigorous Th2 immune response, which is mainly characterized in human by augmented expression of Il-4, polyclonal B cell activation, intense hypergammaglobulinemia and production of antileishmanial IgE antibodies. However, few aspects of this type of immune response have been demonstrated in studies of canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL). This work investigated by ELISA and western immunoblotting the production of antileishmanial IgE antibodies (IgE Ab) in symptomatic and asymptomatic dogs naturally infected by Leishmania chagasi, and also compared this IgE immune response with those of IgG, IgG1 and IgG2 antibodies. Three groups of dogs were evaluated: 12 VL dogs with positive Leishmania biopsies (GI), 44 dogs with a positive leishmanial indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT), 30 of them presenting clinical signs of VL and 14 asymptomatic (GII) and 21 healthy dogs living in kennels located in leishmaniasis endemic areas (GIII), which were seronegative in the IFAT. Eighteen dogs from an area free of CVL were used as controls (GIV). Antileishmanial IgE antibodies were detected in 4 of 12 VL dogs from group I (33%) and 14 of 30 symptomatic dogs from group II (47%). While all asymptomatic dogs from group II (100%) were seronegative for antileishmanial IgE Ab, 7 of 21 healthy animals from group III (33%) had these immunoglobulins. A strong correlation was verified between antileishmanial IgG and IgG2 antibody titers in all symptomatic dogs, but only 15 of these 42 animals (36%) produced simultaneously IgE, IgG, IgG1 and IgG2 antibodies to Leishmania. IgE antibodies recognized leishmanial antigens of 12, 36, 61, 81 and 118 KDD, while a more complex pattern of immunoblotting was verified mainly for IgG and IgG2 antibodies from symptomatic animals. IgG1 and IgG2 antibodies shared the recognition of L. chagasi polypeptides of 118, 81, 61, 36, 18, 14 and 12 KDD, being more intense the immune reactions between IgG1 Ab and the leishmanial polypeptides of 61 and 36 KDD, and also between IgG2 antibodies and the antigens of 26, 21, 18, 14 and 12 KDD. Our results suggest that the polyclonal production of antileishmanial antibodies that includes IgE Ab could characterize a Th2 immune response in CVL and can help the laboratory diagnosis of this disease.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To develop a reliable ELISA by use of a unique antigen preparation for serum IgG quantification after vaccination against Campylobacter fetus in cattle. ANIMALS: Twenty-six 24-month-old virgin Hereford heifers and a naturally infected Hereford bull. PROCEDURES: 5 antigens were prepared from a cell suspension of C fetus. Antigen preparations were the same as those reported in the literature, with the exception of antigens that were obtained by detergent solubilization of a C fetus cell suspension. For each antigen preparation, the optimal ELISA conditions for its immobilization were determined. Biotinylated antibodies against bovine immunoglobulins were obtained and used in the ELISA. Two groups of heifers were inoculated with commercial vaccines according to manufacturers' instructions. A control group was included. The immune response of vaccinated heifers and controls was followed for 6 months. RESULTS: Detergent solubilized C fetus antigens resulted in better ELISA performance than other antigen preparations. Antigens were optimally immobilized at neutral pH and low ionic strength. All antigen preparations saturated the well with the same amount of protein. The vaccination schedule that advised a booster resulted in higher antibody titers, which were sustained over a longer period than the other schedule. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In the vaccination of cattle against C fetus, the ELISA we have developed may be used to evaluate serum antibody concentrations in response to various vaccines and vaccination schedules. Our results indicate that it is advisable to include a booster in the immunization protocol.  相似文献

Heat shock protein (Hsp) 60 of Salmonella appears to be involved in pathogenesis of infectious processes and host immune responses. Eggs of laying hens from two Salmonella Enteritidis naturally infected flocks (I--acute outbreak of infection; II--occasional bacteria excretion) and one control flock (III) were tested for the presence of yolk antibodies (IgY) against Hsp60 by applying enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The levels of specific immunoglobulins were related to those against lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and flagellin. the antigens of the established immunological importance in S. Enteritidis infections. Within flock III, the antibody concentrations were consistently low. Elevated levels were detected in eggs from two infected flocks. Levels of specific IgY measured for flock I were higher than those in flock II; the greatest difference was observed for anti-Hsp60. This report indicates a probable important role of Hsp60 as a target of the hens' immune response, especially during the acute phase of S. Enteritidis infection.  相似文献

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) for the detection of porcine IgM, IgA, IgG1 and IgG2 antibodies directed against Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) are described. ADV-specific IgA and IgM were detected in an antibody capture assay, and ADV-specific IgG1 and IgG2 were detected in an indirect double antibody sandwich assay. A selected set of samples was tested in the four ELISAs and in a 24 h virus neutralization assay. Comparison of the results showed that the ELISAs were isotype-specific, sensitive, and reproducible. Samples with ADV antibody of one isotype showed that ADV-specific IgG1, IgG2 and IgM were able to neutralize the virus in vitro. In vitro neutralization of virus can be enhanced by complement. ADV-specific IgA neutralized virus only weakly. ADV-infected cells activated complement in the absence of antibody. Specific IgG2 and IgM enhanced complement activation. Analysis of the time course of antibody responses after infection or vaccination revealed that the isotype-specific ELISAs are suitable to study the humoral antibody response of pigs to the virus in mucosal secretions. Wild-type virus (strain NIA-3) and an attenuated vaccine strain (Bartha) administered intranasally induced mucosal IgM and IgA responses to the virus. In contrast, a killed vaccine (Nobivac) administered intramuscularly induced only weak mucosal IgM responses. The attenuated vaccine strain primed for a mucosal IgA memory response evoked upon challenge infection with wild-type virus.  相似文献

The intestinal and systemic antibody response of calves vaccinated and/or challenged with rotavirus was studied employing isotype-specific ELISAs for the detection of IgG1, IgG2, IgM and IgA antibodies to rotavirus. Monoclonal antibodies to bovine immunoglobulin isotypes of proven specificity were used as conjugated or catching antibody. Five days after oral inoculation (dpi) of a 5-day-old gnotobiotic calf with rotavirus, IgM rotavirus antibodies were excreted in faeces, followed 5 days later by IgA rotavirus antibodies. The increase in IgM rotavirus antibody titre coincided with the inability to detect further rotavirus excretion. Faeces IgM and IgA rotavirus antibody titres fell to low levels within 3 weeks post infection. IgG1 and IgG2 rotavirus antibodies were not detected in faecal samples. In serum, antibodies to rotavirus of all four isotypes were detected, starting with IgM at 5 dpi. Two SPF-calves, which were fed colostrum free of rotavirus antibodies, were vaccinated with a modified live rotavirus vaccine and challenged with virulent rotavirus 6 days later. Upon vaccination, the calves showed an antibody response similar to the response of the infected gnotobiotic calf. Intestinal IgM rotavirus antibodies were excreted before or on the day of challenge and appeared to be associated with protection against challenge infection with virulent virus and rotavirus-induced diarrhoea. In 3 control calves, which were challenged only, the antibody patterns also resembled that of the gnotobiotic calf and again the appearance of IgM rotavirus antibodies coincided with the end of the rotavirus detection period. Two other groups of 3 SPF-calves were treated similarly, but the calves were fed colostrum with rotavirus antibodies during the first 48 h of life. These calves excreted passively acquired IgG1 and IgG2 rotavirus antibodies in their faeces from 2 to 6 days after birth. After vaccination, no IgM or IgA antibody activity in serum or faeces was detectable. Upon challenge, all calves developed diarrhoea and excreted rotavirus. Seven to 10 days after challenge low levels of IgM rotavirus antibody were detected for a short period. These data indicate that the intestinal antibody response of young calves to an enteric viral infection is associated with the excretion of IgM antibodies, immediately followed by IgA antibodies. This response is absent or diminished in calves with passively acquired specific antibodies which may explain the failure to induce a protective intestinal immune response by oral vaccination with modified live rotavirus of calves fed colostrum containing rotavirus antibodies.  相似文献

Monoclonal antibodies (MCAs) against porcine immunoglobulin isotypes* G, G1, G2, M and A have been produced and characterized in detail. Epitope analysis using a competitive direct enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) indicated that the MCAs recognized 3 class-specific epitopes of IgG, 4 epitopes specific for IgG1, 3 epitopes specific for IgG2, 2 epitopes of IgM and 2 epitopes of IgA. Two MCAs against IgG2 were shown to react with an allotypic determinant (B2) and one MCA against IgM is probably allotype specific. The production of MCAs specific for IgG and for its subclasses G1 and G2 and, in addition, the one-step isolation of nearly pure IgG1 and IgG2 preparations by immunoaffinity chromatography using MCA 34.1.1a (anti-IgG2) confirmed the existence of at least two subclasses of IgG. Preliminary results further suggested the existence of a subpopulation of IgG1 which could be eluted selectively from Protein A-Sepharose columns at pH 5.0. MCA 34.17.2a appeared to react preferentially with this IgG1 subpopulation and could be used to isolate a similar IgG1 subpopulation by immuno-affinity chromatography. Several of the MCAs have been successfully applied for the detection of porcine immunoglobulin isotypes by a double antibody sandwich ELISA and for the (isotype-specific) detection of antibodies against various porcine viruses. The availability of a full set of MCAs against porcine immunoglobulin isotypes will stimulate and facilitate the further study of the porcine immune system.  相似文献

In the present study, a collection of 415 water buffalo serum samples originating from the north of Vietnam was used for evaluation of different diagnostic antibody detection methods available to detect infections with Trypanosoma evansi. The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of a direct card agglutination test (CATT/T. evansi), an indirect card agglutination test (LATEX/T. evansi) and a newly developed antibody detection ELISA (ELISA/T. evansi) was calculated on the basis of parasitological results, obtained by mouse inoculation, and compared for all assays. The immume trypanolysis assay with the predominant T. evansi RoTat 1.2 variable antigen type was used as reference test for antibody presence. All parasitologically confirmed animals (n=8) were positive in all tests. Diagnostic specificity was highest in CATT/T. evansi (98%) followed by the ELISA/T. evansi (95%) and the LATEX/T. evansi (82%). Concordance of the variant specific immune trypanolysis test with the other tests was calculated and revealed that few (1-8%) false positive results were actually due to a specific reactions, and that LATEX/T. evansi and ELISA/T. evansi detected more immune trypanolysis positives than the CATT/T. evansi. It was concluded that, apart from the immune trypanolysis test, which is not generally applicable, ELISA/T. evansi with a 30% positivity cut-off and LATEX/T. evansi, thanks to their superior capacity of detecting T. evansi specific antibodies, would be suitable as epidemiological tools detecting both active infections and persisting T. evansi specific antibodies. The ELISA/T. evansi with a 50% positivity cut-off and the CATT/T. evansi on the other hand, seem more appropriate to detect true infected water buffaloes.  相似文献

Bovine immunoglobulin isotype-specific murine monoclonal antibodies were used in sandwich radioimmunoassays to detect and quantitate bovine IgG1, IgG2, IgM, and IgA in culture fluids. The concentrations of bovine immunoglobulins in unknown samples were extrapolated from standard curves generated with bovine monoclonal immunoglobulins. The lowest detection limits for the bovine immunoglobulin isotypes ranged from 65 to 270 ng/ml.  相似文献

Molecular techniques have demonstrated that cats may harbour feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) provirus in the absence of antigenaemia. Using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), p27 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), anti-feline oncornavirus-associated cell-membrane-antigen (FOCMA) antibody testing and virus isolation (VI) we investigated three groups of cats. Among cats with cytopenias or lymphoma, 2/75 were transiently positive for provirus and anti-FOCMA antibodies were the only evidence of exposure in another. In 169 young, healthy cats, all tests were negative. In contrast, 3/4 cats from a closed household where FeLV was confirmed by isolation, had evidence of infection. Our results support a role for factors other than FeLV in the pathogenesis of cytopenias and lymphoma. There was no evidence of exposure in young cats. In regions of low prevalence, where the positive predictive value of antigen testing is low, qPCR may assist with diagnosis.  相似文献

Detergent-extracted recombinant Omp31 (rOmp31 extract) from Brucella melitensis produced in Escherichia coli was previously identified as a protective immunogen against B. ovis in mice. In this study, we evaluated the immunogenicity of rOmp31extract in rams. This immunogen was emulsified in an oil adjuvant and administered three times with 4 and 8 weeks intervals. Antibody response was measured in serum by whole B. ovis ELISA. Specific antibodies to purified rOmp31 (pET-Omp31) were detected by Western blotting and indirect ELISA. In addition, isotype specific antibodies were measured in tears. Serum bactericidal activity against B. ovis in the presence of complement was measured in vitro. Cellular immune response was explored by intradermal testing with purified rOmp31. Immunization with rOmp31 extract induced IgG specific antibodies in serum able to bind to whole B. ovis cells. Furthermore, strong inhibition in a competitive ELISA (with an Omp31-specific monoclonal antibody) suggested that a proportion of Omp31-specific antibodies were directed against a loop containing a protective epitope. Serum antibodies killed efficiently B. ovis in vitro in the presence of either guinea pig or ovine serum. Tears had both IgG and IgA antibodies to equivalent titers. Finally, immunized rams showed skin reactivity to Omp31. These data demonstrate that B. melitensis Omp31, a protective antigen identified in the mouse model, induces antibody and cellular immune mechanisms in sheep.  相似文献
