The bark of Croton campestris provided three furano-clerodane named, respectively, velamone, velamolone acetate and velamolone. Fractions containing these diterpenoids were investigated for their molluscicidal activity against Bulinus truncatus, one of the aquatic snail vectors of schistosomiasis. A dichloromethanic extract of root barks, rich in furano-clerodane and molluscicidal at 20ppm was promising as natural molluscicide. Enriched fraction with velamone gave 80% mortality from 25ppm, while its LD(100) was at 50ppm. The LD(80) was ca. at 45ppm, while LD(100) was at 60ppm for the enriched fraction containing velamolone acetate. The velamolone-enriched fraction was less efficient and gave a mortality of 90% at 90ppm. The pure compounds, velamone and velamolone acetate were active at 100% at 3 and 6ppm, respectively. Velamolone showed a molluscicidal activity at 20ppm.  相似文献

Traditional Indonesian medicinal plants were screened for their inhibitory effects on the nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages and for the antioxidant activity through the evaluation of free radical scavenging effect and reducing power. The results of screening indicated that 50 methanolic extracts inhibited (>50%) lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced NO release from RAW264.7 cells at 50 microg/ml, with 18 having greater than 100% inhibition. At 200 microg/ml, 61 methanol extracts exhibited inhibitory activity (>50%), with 45 showing greater than 100% inhibition. In addition, the free radical scavenging effects of 6 methanolic extracts were found to be more than 50% for extract concentration of 0.5 mug/ml. The results indicate that the extracts contain active compounds that inhibit NO release and scavenge free radical.  相似文献

The species of Glaucium have been used in Iranian herbal medicine in the treatment of dermatitis. Due to anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of Glaucium grandiflorum methanolic extract in i.p. administration, these effects in topical administration were studied using carrageenan-induced edema and formalin test. Several formulations were prepared and the best cream was chosen as vehicle. Piroxicam gel and methyl salicylate ointment were studied as positive control for anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity, respectively. The edema inhibition of preparations containing extract at the doses of 1-5% w/w were significantly different from control group. The anti-inflammatory effect of MS4-5% was similar to the effect of piroxicam gel at 3 h after carrageenan injection. Topical preparation containing G. grandiflorum methanolic extract showed analgesic effect in concentrations more than 4% w/w in early phase in formalin test. This activity was observed in concentrations more than 3% w/w in late phase. The topical analgesic activity of extract was less than the analgesic activity of methyl salicylate ointment.  相似文献

The ethanolic extract of Symphyopappus casarettoi syn. Eupatorium casarettoi was partionated in hexanic, chloroformic and methanolic fractions. Extract and fractions were tested for their antioxidant activity in vitro and ex vivo assays. The methanolic fraction showed a higher antioxidant potential compared to the others fractions, which was correlated with its total phenol content. In addition, the ethanolic extract and the methanolic fraction attenuated ex vivo iron-induced cell death, quantified by lactate dehydrogenase leakage, and effectively protected against lipid damage induced by iron. These findings suggest that the ethanolic extract of S. casarettoi inflorescence and its methanolic fraction have in vitro and ex vivo antioxidant properties.  相似文献

In the search for new molluscicidal natural products, the activity of the chloroform extract of the root barks of Caryopteris x clandonensis was tested. The LC(100) was <5 ppm. The fractionation and purification of the extract afforded 15-deoxyfuerstione, fuerstione and alpha-caryopterone as the main compounds. These compounds were tested against the snail Bulinus truncatus, an intermediate host snail of a schistosomiasis parasite and showed strong molluscicidal activity with LC(100)<4 ppm. In addition, they were found to have potent radical scavenging properties on superoxide radical.  相似文献

The extract of the methanolic leaves of Bauhinia cheilandra (BC) was tested on glucose loaded and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. In both tests, the methanolic extract at doses of 300, 600, and 900 mg/kg, has shown a statistically significant and considerable hypoglycemic activity.  相似文献

The present study is designed to investigate the effect of methanolic extract of outer scales and edible portions of Allium cepa bulb on ischemia and reperfusion-induced cerebral injury. Global cerebral ischemia was induced by bilateral carotid artery occlusion for 10 min followed by reperfusion for 24 h. Pretreatment with methanolic extract of outer scales (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) and edible portions (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) of A. cepa bulb markedly reduced cerebral infarct size and attenuated impairment in short-term memory and motor coordination. The protective effect of methanolic extract of outer scales and edible portions of A. cepa bulb was accompanied by a marked decrease in mitochondrial TBARS.  相似文献

Antioxidative activity of Laurus nobilis leaves, bark and fruit methanolic extracts (crude and defatted) were studied on the level of lipid peroxidation in liposomes, induced by Fe(2+)/ascorbate system and measured spectrophotometrically by the TBA-test. The most significant inhibition of lipid peroxidation was obtained with methanolic extracts of laurel bark (70.6% of inhibition was obtained with 1.0 mg of crude extract).  相似文献

In screening experiments for antiacne activity, methanolic and 50% ethanolic extracts of Caesalpinia sappan wood showed the most potent activity out of 28 species of plants extracts. These extracts showed inhibition of Propionibacterium acnes growth, lipase inhibitory activity, and antioxidant activity. In order to isolate the active compound from C. sappan, separation of the extract components was performed by column chromatography and preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Brazilin, protosappanin A, and sappanone B were isolated from methanolic extracts. Brazilin showed better antibacterial activity [minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) = minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) = 0.50 mg/ml] than protosappanin A (MIC = MBC = 1.00 mg/ml) and sappanone B (MIC = MBC > 2.00 mg/ml). The 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) for lipase inhibition was lowest for brazilin (6 μM), which showed strong inhibition compared with protosappanin A (100 μM) and chloramphenicol (677 μM, positive control). The antioxidant activity of brazilin (IC50 8.8 μM) was not significantly different from protosappanin A (9.1 μM) and (+)-catechin (10.2 μM). The antioxidant activity of brazilin and protosappanin A were higher than sappanone B (IC50 14.5 μM). Brazilin is considered to have suffi ciently potent activity for use as an antiacne agent.  相似文献

The aqueous and n-butanol fractions of the methanolic extract of Raphia hookeri fruit mesocarp was evaluated for cytotoxic properties using three different bioassays. The n-butanol fraction exhibited greater cytotoxicity than the aqueous fraction when tested against brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, and 5-day old tadpoles, the cytotoxicity towards the tadpoles being the most pronounced (LC(50)=0.83 ppm).  相似文献
