Since 1989, tomato plants showing symptoms of stolbur disease have been sporadically noticed at the ‘Stuard Experimental Farm for Agriculture’in the Province of Parma, Emilia‐Romagna region (north Italy). In this farm, one of the largest in Italy for tomato plantation, more than 36 commercial tomato lines have been comparatively evaluated for suitability for processing into diced or crushed tomato products. Recently, among these lines, some plants of two hybrids (Perfect Peel, TI 991) showed the typical symptoms of ‘stolbur’infection (yellowing and reduction of leaves, sterility or fruit alterations, stunting of the plants). In order to protect these plants, as Perfect Peel is one of the most important commercial hybrids, transmission electron microscopy was used to identify the pathogens responsible for the disease and to study the alterations caused in cells. Phytoplasmas were observed in the phloem cells of leaf and stem tissues of the two tomato hybrids and also in Catharanthus roseus used as test plant. This is the first report of identification, by electron microscopy, of stolbur phytoplasma affecting economically important tomato crops in Emilia‐Romagna region.  相似文献

Since the first occurrence of Halyomorpha halys (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) in Italy in 2012, the pest has spread in the Po Valley causing severe damage in summer 2015, particularly in pear orchards. At present, populations of H. halys have been reported in the regions of Emilia‐Romagna (Modena, Reggio Emilia and Bologna provinces), Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and Friuli. The damage caused by H. halys is typical of pentatomids and is aggravated by the pest's polyphagy and by the behaviour of adults which move continuously from plant to plant, from hedges or herbaceous crops to fruit orchards. The unpredictability of H. halys’ movements, along with the effect of the aggregating pheromone that concentrates the pest in certain areas of the orchards, therefore making chemical spraying complicated.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Heavy and constant use of organophosphorus (OP) larvicides selected Culex pipiens L. resistant populations through two main mechanisms of genetic resistance, the increased activity of detoxifying esterase and the production of alterate acetylcholinesterase‐1 (AChE1) by G119S mutation. The aim of this study was the assessment of the distribution of Cx. pipiens populations resistant to temephos and chlorpyrifos in the north‐eastern regions of Italy and the occurrence of the insensitive AChE in these populations. Data describe the situation in the last years before European legislation prohibited the use of OP larvicides in mosquito control, up until 2007. RESULTS: For the first time a high level of OP resistance in the samples from Ravenna (182‐fold, 80% A4/B4 or A5/B5 esterases and 38.3% Ester5), Emilia Romagna region, was detected; therefore, new data from the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions were obtained and reinforced existing knowledge about resistance previously studied along the Adriatic coast. Nearby, in the Villa Verucchio locality, the highest (87.5%) AChE1R was found. CONCLUSION: Cx. pipiens resistance esterases A5/B5 and A4/B4 spread southward along the Adriatic coastal plain while OPs were being used in mosquito control, as confirmed by the first molecular screening of the AChE1 gene in these populations. During the spring of 2016, the aphid Myzus mumecola (Matsumura) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) was detected on its preferential host plant, Prunus armeniaca L. (Rosaceae), in Italy. This was the first record of the species in Europe. Several populations of the aphid have been collected in various apricot orchards in Emilia‐Romagna, in the localities of Imola, Campiano, Cesena and Castiglione di Cervia. The species is considered to be an apricot pest in India and East Asia. Details on the morphology, biology and distribution of this aphid species and the damage it causes are given.  相似文献

In 1993, fireblight (Erwinia amylovora) was detected for the first time in Austria, in the most westerly part of the country (Vorarlberg). During the following years, especially since 1998, a stepwise migration from west to east was observed. For control, mechanical measures are mostly used. As these measures require early recognition of symptoms, broad information campaigns for the public and extensive surveys of host plants have been set up. Suspicious plant samples are sent to the central laboratory for diagnosis. Regional plant protection services are assisted by trained volunteers. Eradication and pruning measures are performed by trained working teams. Infected plant material is burned. In all pome‐fruit production areas, the disease forecasting system Maryblyt has been established. Regulations concerning the movement of beehives have been adopted, together with prohibition of the planting of certain ornamental host plants (Crataegus, Cotoneaster). Chemical treatments are limited to one copper oxychloride product. In 2003, temporary application of Prohexadione‐Ca for the prevention of shoot infections was authorized. In some areas, the rigorous application of control measures has reduced the incidence of fireblight and possibly slowed down its progress. However these measures are not sufficient to protect against new, unexpected outbreaks.  相似文献

The forecasting and warning system of Emilia‐Romagna region (Italy) produces warnings for crop protection against diseases, using information from weather stations, biological surveys on a network of observation fields and simulation models. The network of field observations is crucial for the efficiency of the service but, unfortunately, the human and economic resources available for their management are usually less than needed. Therefore, the number of observation fields is insufficient to cover the entire territory uniformly, so that their geographical distribution increases in importance. In this work, a method for rational arrangement of observation fields on a regional scale is proposed. It uses models simulating crop growth and disease outbreak, both using meteorological data available on a 5‐km mesh, to draw maps showing homogeneous areas within the territory. For the main pathogens of winter wheat (Erysiphe graminis, Puccinia striiformis, Puccinia recondita and Fusarium subsp.), disease risk is calculated when host plants are susceptible to infection, and both static and dynamic maps are drawn. The use of maps is discussed in arranging observation fields and in timing field surveys.  相似文献

We report the occurrence of the North American ragweed leaf beetle Ophraella communa in Europe. During our surveys to monitor populations of the invasive alien plant Ambrosia artemisiifolia in Europe, we found the beetle south of the Alps, in more than 130 sites in southern Switzerland (Ticino) and northern Italy (Lombardia, Piemonte and Emilia‐Romagna). At sites where O. communa was present, up to 100% of the plants were attacked with damage levels high enough to completely defoliate and prevent flowering and seed set of most ragweed plants. That in its first year of discovery, O. communa was already found over a large area of c. 20 000 km2 and in all habitat types occupied by A. artemisiifolia reflects its great dispersal potential and wide habitat suitability. This oligophagous beetle is a successful biological control agent against A. artemisiifolia in China, but despite extensive host specificity tests, the risk of attack and the level of damage of sunflower under field conditions remain unclear. The recently launched COST Action on ‘Sustainable management of Ambrosia artemisiifolia in Europe (SMARTER)’ offers an ideal framework to respond quickly to the recent establishment of O. communa in Europe and to collect data that can help determine whether this event should be considered a troublesome introduction or whether it is likely to become the first case of a successful biological control of an invasive weed in continental Europe.  相似文献

A simulation model of the phenology of Cydia funebrana (plum fruit moth) is presented. The Logan function was used to determine the temperature‐dependent developmental rates of the eggs, larvae and pupae; a linear equation was used for the ageing rate of females. The mean fecundity of females as a function of age was expressed by a modified Bieri's function. In order to simulate the stochastic process, a time‐distributed delay model was used. Results from the validation of the model in northern Italy (1995 and 1997) are reported. Catches of male moths in pheromone traps and oviposition activity were monitored in orchards of mid‐ and late‐ripening plum cultivars. The model was then run using temperature data from each farm. When the oviposition activity forecast by the model was compared with that actually observed in the orchards, good correlations between actual and forecast oviposition were obtained. The model is already available for technicians in Emilia‐Romagna and is a valuable tool in integrated fruit production; it gives an indication of the right moment to apply insecticides or to carry out further monitoring activity to assess the risk of C. funebrana damage (e.g. by sampling actual oviposition on just a single occasion).  相似文献

Fireblight was detected for the first time in Norway in 1986, in a limited outbreak on ornamentals, in particular Cotoneaster. An organization for the eradication and containment of the disease was rapidly established, and given comprehensive statutory powers and resources to do surveys and to remove diseased plants and highly susceptible plants from infested areas. The activities have so far been successful. The disease has remained within a restricted area on the West Coast, and has not moved into important fruit‐growing areas or nurseries. Since 2000, fireblight has spread to some adjoining areas, mainly due to uncontrolled movement of beehives. New statutory powers prohibit movement of beehives out of infested areas from May to October.  相似文献

Understanding the disease cycle of fireblight requires knowledge of the sources of inoculum and means of dissemination. In regions where the disease is endemic, hold–over cankers are the most important source of primary inoculum. Dissemination of primary inoculum occurs by rain or by crawling or flying insects. Often, blossoms infested with Erwinia atnylovora (Burrill) Winslow et al. provide secondary inoculum that is disseminated by pollinating insects or by rain. Later in the growing season, secondary inoculum produced in infected tissues may be disseminated by rain or by sucking and biting insects. Relatively rare sources of inoculum and inefficient means of dissemination may be responsible for introducing the pathogen to areas where fireblight has not been found previously. E. amylovora may be carried to new locations in intimate association with host tissues (infected nursery stock), in association with vectors (insects, birds or man), or by wind as “strands” or in airborne water drops. Every effort should be made to prevent introduction of E. amylovora into areas now thought to be free of fireblight. Attempts to eradicate the disease from several new areas in northern Europe have been unsuccessful. Because weather conditions and the host plants present in southern Europe are especially conducive to severe damage from fireblight, plant protection personnel are advised to prepare now for the possible introduction of disease. Personnel should be trained to recognize the disease and plans should be drawn to contain it or to manage host plants to minimize disease losses.  相似文献

Slovenia was recognized as free from Erwinia amylovora until 2001. A low incidence of the disease was reported in 2001 and 2002 in the north‐west uplands of the Gorenjska region. In 2001, only 3 trees in extensive orchards were found positive at one location out of 791 monitoring locations all over the country. In 2002, the same location in Naklo and a second one in a 1‐km radius were found positive, whilst 875 other monitoring locations were fireblight‐free. Despite strict phytosanitary measures implemented after discovery of the first focus, the bacterium spread in 2003 to the entire Gorenjska region, with further spread towards eastern and southern Slovenia. The NPPO registered 184 new foci by the end of the season in Gorenjska. Twenty‐three foci are scattered in other regions. Phytosanitary measures were applied in every focus. Spread of the bacterium was probably enabled by favourable weather conditions, the presence of the inoculum and intensive bee‐hive movement, resulting in flower infections. Since eradication has not been successful, it is concluded that E. amylovora is now present at low prevalence in Slovenia.  相似文献

Fireblight disease, caused by Erwinia amylovora was first detected in Bulgaria on quince in the region of Plovdiv in 1989. The disease was initially localized in that area but, during 1995/1997, due to favourable climate conditions, it became epidemic. Infected trees were grubbed out and destroyed. The main hosts are quince and pear (over 40% of affected trees), then apple, medlar and Cotoneaster. Containment measures undertaken by the Bulgarian NPPO are laid down in the Plant Protection Law, in Phytosanitary Regulation no. 1 for phytosanitary control, and in Phytosanitary Regulation no. 5 of 1996 (amended 1997) for containment of fireblight. Phytosanitary control is mainly focused on fruit‐tree nurseries and on the distribution of healthy plants for planting. In 2003, 41 protected zones and 29 protected sectors within infested areas have been established.  相似文献

Inspectors of the Czech NPPO surveyed the occurrence of fireblight Erwinia amylovora in an area of Jihomoravsky region (South Moravia) proposed as an EU protected zone, including 16 designated buffer zones around nurseries. The disease was not detected in communes where fireblight hosts are grown (nurseries, variety testing stations, orchards) or in buffer zones around nurseries. In 902 communes where fireblight hosts are grown only in orchards or not at all, wild host plants were inspected at 2.629 observation points (2137 located by GARMIN GPS). In Vy?kov district, suspected fireblight was confirmed at one observation point on Crataegus, growing by a railway in Rousínov commune and, in the course of a delimiting survey outside observation points, in four other communes (Drnovice, Habrovany, Komo?any and Vy?kov).  相似文献

A DSS was elaborated to determine the level of risk for mycotoxin accumulation in small grain cereals during the growing season and to support different management actions along the cereal production chain. The DSS is based on a discriminant analysis carried out on a representative data set on the presence of deoxinivalenol in winter‐sown bread wheat, durum wheat and barley grown in different areas of Emilia‐Romagna (northern Italy) between 2002 and 2004. Three to five levels of proneness to Fusarium head blight were defined for six influencing factors (weather conditions, growing area, host species and variety, previous crop and type of soil tillage before sowing), each level having its own coefficient, and linearly combined in an equation of risk (R). A value of R can be then calculated for any plot using information at both regional (weather conditions and growing area) and plot‐specific (host and cropping practices) levels. R ranges between −3.86 and 4.43 with four risk levels: low (R  –2), intermediate (–2 < R  –0.44), high (–0.44 < R  1.2), and very high (R > 1.2). Different management actions are suggested based on the level of R of the plot. The DSS was satisfactorily validated using data from many plots other than those used in its elaboration.  相似文献

The impact of disease outbreaks on the phytosanitary quality of seeds was investigated for two pathosystems: tomato–Xanthomonas vesicatoria and pepper–Xanthomonas euvesicatoria. This study, which was performed in Italy and Serbia, aimed to evaluate the season‐to‐season transmission of phytopathogenic regulated bacteria associated with phytosanitary risks posed by seeds produced in areas where bacterial infections are possible. For each pathosystem, field plots were experimentally inoculated to simulate an initial infection rate of 1%, 5% and 15%. The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) was calculated for each field plot, the seeds produced were analysed to determine the contamination level and rate, and the plant‐to‐seed transmission was evaluated by a seedling grow‐out (SGO) assay. To investigate transmission under field conditions, a second‐year experiment was performed, wherein seeds collected from the first year were used to establish new field plots. During the first growing season, AUDPC values were positively correlated with the percentages of initial infection for each pathosystem. Seed contamination levels in pepper ranged from 34 to 100 CFU g?1, and the contamination rate ranged from 1.50% up to 3.17% for X. euvesicatoria, whereas processing and fresh market tomato seeds produced both in Italy and Serbia were not infected by X. vesicatoria. During SGO assays and the second cropping year, no symptoms were observed in either tomato or pepper plants. Therefore, the calculated pepper seed contamination rate for X. euvesicatoria appeared to be less than the threshold necessary to initiate a disease outbreak. Finally, all seeds obtained during the second cropping year were uninfected.  相似文献

The Asiatic yellow‐spotted longicorn beetle, Psacothea hilaris hilaris, was found for the first time in Northern Italy in 2005. As this xylophagous insect is considered one of the most important pests of Morus spp. and of Ficus carica in its countries of origin, a multi‐year study was carried out to determine the spread of the pest in Northern Italy, to evaluate its establishment potential and to improve knowledge on its biology in the new habitat. The survey confirmed that P. hilaris hilaris has established in Italy and has colonized an area of about 60 km2. The species overwinters as eggs or larvae. Adults are present from June to October. Damage has been recorded mostly on Ficus carica plants, and very rarely on Morus alba. Both young and older plants, healthy and weakened hosts can be attacked by the pest. Severely attacked plants become weakened and eventually die.  相似文献

Switzerland joined the list of fireblight‐affected European countries in 1989. Vigorous and systematic steps were taken to limit the impact of the disease on fruit production and amenity plants. These efforts are codified in a Swiss law detailing prevention, eradication, control measures and issues of compensation. As with many Swiss legal directives, there is a defined coordination of federal and cantonal responsibilities and, in the case of fireblight, there is also an emphasis at all levels on personal responsibility of owners of susceptible objects (e.g. nurseries, orchards, host plants). Extension activities have been a key component in achieving compliance with disease management regulations and in obtained public support for control efforts. Prohexadione‐Ca is primarily used for the control of shoot growth in pome and other fruit trees. During its development, treated apple and pear trees were found to be significantly less affected by fireblight (Erwinia amylovora) and other pathogens, although prohexadione‐Ca is inactive as a bactericide or fungicide. Prohexadione is a structural mimic of 2‐oxoglutaric acid, and the distinct dioxygenases involved in gibberellin biosynthesis that require this compound as a cosubstrate are blocked. As a result, less growth‐active gibberellins are formed and treated plants remain compact. 2‐Oxoglutaric acid‐dependent dioxygenases are also involved in flavonoid metabolism. In shoots of apples and pears, prohexadione‐Ca causes considerable changes in the formation of flavonoids and their phenolic precursors by inhibiting flavanone 3‐hydroxylase. Convincing evidence is available that prohexadione‐Ca triggers pathogen resistance primarily by inducing the formation of 3‐deoxyflavonoids, in particular luteoforol, with phytoalexin‐like properties. Morphoregulatory effects caused by prohexadione‐Ca are only of secondary relevance. The simultaneous control of excessive shoot growth and shoot infections by fireblight is seen as a major advantage of using prohexadione‐Ca in pome fruit trees.  相似文献

Neofabraea vagabunda is the prevalent cause of bull's eye rot, one of the main postharvest diseases of apple, in many producing areas, but its biology has not been studied in detail. The molecular identification, by DNA sequencing of the β‐tubulin region, of 41 isolates collected from apples showing bull's eye rot in the Emilia‐Romagna region confirmed N. vagabunda as the main species in Italy. A biological and morphological characterization of N. vagabunda isolates was performed in vitro. Assays at temperatures ranging from 0 to 30 °C carried out on 10 isolates demonstrated: (i) a marked influence of temperature on colony morphology, conidial production, conidial size and mycelial growth, showing the cold‐tolerant character of N. vagabunda; and (ii) that culture at 15 °C on tomato agar (TA) for 14 days is a rapid and reliable method to favour pathogen conidial production. Trials performed on 38 isolates using these incubation conditions recorded the presence of two N. vagabunda morphotypes, differing for colony morphology, conidial size, conidiomata formation and temperature requirement. The alkalizing ability of the pathogen during growth on TA was also demonstrated for the first time. The pathogenicity of 25 N. vagabunda isolates was proved in vivo on artificially infected Cripps Pink apples. A pH increase was also recorded in apple tissue infected by N. vagabunda isolates (on average 0.2 and 0.3 units of pH after 60 and 120 days of incubation, respectively), suggesting that the N. vagabunda transition from quiescence to necrotrophic colonization in apples could involve the secretion of alkalizing compounds.  相似文献
