The age and growth of two Nematalosa species around Okinawa Island were examined using sectioned otoliths collected from September 2003 to April 2006. Monthly changes in the frequency of the appearance of a translucent band on the outer margin of the otoliths indicated that ring formation occurred once a year from January to July for Nematalosa come and from January to March for Nematalosa japonica. The von Bertalanffy growth equations for both species were as follows: N. come: L t  = 365.5{1 − exp[−0.111 × (t + 0.288)]} for females and L t  = 214.7{1 − exp[−0.700 × (t – 1.110)]} for males; N. japonica: L t  = 205.1{1 − exp[−1.068 × (t − 1.180)]} for females and L t  = 195.5 {1 − exp[−1.293 × (t − 1.269)]} for males. The maximum ages observed for N. come and N. japonica were 11 and 6 years old, respectively. The growth of these species was characterized by the slow growth of N. come over many years, resulting in a larger size than N. japonica.  相似文献

A total of 518 Gerres sp. were collected around Okinawa Island, Japan, from November 2002 to July 2005, with monthly sampling where the standard length of females (n=218) were 56.2–147.1 mm, and males (n=149) were 62.2–139.4 mm. The maximum ages observed for females were 5+ years and males were 4+ years, estimated by transverse sectioned sagittal otoliths. Mean marginal increment indicated that opaque rings were formed once a year during April to July. The standard length (SL; mm) — body wet weight (BW; g) relationships were described as BW=(3.26×10−5) SL2.97 and BW=(3.13×10−5) SL 2.98 for females and males, respectively, and the standard length at age described by von Bertalanffy growth function for females, L t=137.1(1−e−0.80[t+0.80]) and males, L t=127.3(1−e−0.82[t+0.93]).  相似文献

The potential for predation by the sea stars Asterias rubens and Marthasterias glacialis on seed-size (41 ± 3 mm shell height) juvenile scallops (Pecten maximus), ready for seeding in sea ranching areas, was investigated in a 30-day laboratory predation experiment. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in predation rate of large A. rubens (95–115 mm radium) and large M. glacialis (120–164 mm radius), which averaged 0.88 and 0.71 scallops individual−1 day−1, respectively. Maximum rates of predation were 2.44 scallops individual−1 day−1 for large A. rubens and 3.00 scallops individual−1 day−1 for large M. glacialis. Small M. glacialis (76–87 mm radius) had a significantly lower predation rate than large individuals of either species (average 0.13 scallops individual−1 day−1, P < 0.05). Small A. rubens (50–80 mm radius) only began to prey on scallops when average scallop size was reduced to 35 mm. Based on estimated density of sea stars at a Norwegian sea ranching site and average predation rates, a population of scallops seeded at 10 m−2 would be reduced by between 0.5 and 11% in 1 month. Furthermore, using the highest observed predation rate, the degree of loss of scallops indicated that scallop culture via sea ranching would not be economically viable and thus methods for reducing scallop predation by sea stars are necessary.  相似文献

We studied the age and growth of the lizardfish Saurida elongata using ground thin sections of otoliths (sagittae) from specimens collected in the Tsushima/Korea Strait between May 1999 and June 2001. A total of 695 individuals with fork lengths (FL) ranging from 189 to 478 mm were examined. The frequency of translucent zone occurrence at the outer margin of the otoliths indicated that translucent zones formed once a year between November and February. Most of the males examined were estimated to be 2–7 years old and the females, 3–9 years old. The maximum estimated age of a male specimen was 10 years and that of a female, 11 years. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth curves were FL t  = 451{1 − exp[−0.172(t + 2.50)]} and FL t  = 515{1 − exp[−0.151(t + 2.47)]} for males and females, respectively. At all ages, the FL at a specific age for females was greater than that for males, suggesting that females of this species grow faster than males.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the feasibility of using seaweeds as biofilters in a hatchery scale recirculating aquaculture system for juvenile spotted babylons (Babylonia areolata). Two seaweeds Gracilaria salicornia and Caulerpa lentillifera were used with three initial biomass levels of each species (280, 560 and 840 g wet weight m−3). Spotted babylon with an average initial shell length of 1.32 ± 0.01 cm and body weight of 0.37 ± 0.01 g was used with a stocking density of 300 snails m−2. The experiment was carried out in triplicate over a period of 120 days. Results showed that seawater quality (water temperature, conductivity, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen and total suspended solids) gradually changed with no significant differences between treatments throughout the experimental period, except alkalinity, total ammonia nitrogen, nitrite–nitrogen, nitrate–nitrogen and phosphate. Growth rates in weight and shell length of the spotted babylon cultured in all seaweed treatments used were not significantly different between seaweeds and density treatments, but significant differences in final survival rate of the spotted babylon were found between seaweed and density treatments. Growth rate and biomass gain of C. lentillifera were significantly higher than those of G. salicornia for all stocking density treatments. This study shows that Gracilaria salicornia and Caulerpa lentillifera can be used as biofilters for regulating water quality in a recirculating culture system for spotted babylons.  相似文献

In experimental culture conditions in tanks, the effect of weight (W: 11–452 g) and temperature (T: 14–29°C) on the growth rate (SGR, % bw day−1) and maximum daily food intake (SFR, % bw day−1) in sharpsnout sea bream (Diplodus puntazzo) was studied. The possible combined effect of both independent variables (W and T) was also analyzed by multiple regression analysis, fitting the data to the equation Ln Y = Ln a + b Ln W + cT + dT 2 + eT Ln W. Both SGR and SFR, and therefore feed efficiency (FE = SGR/SFR), were significantly influenced by the interaction between temperature and weight and may be expressed by means of the following equations: Ln SGR = −6.1705 + 0.5809T − 0.0087T 2 − 0.0249T Ln W ( R\textadj2 R_{\text{adj}}^{2}  = 0.949; ANOVA P < 0.0001); Ln SFR = −4.8257 + 0.4425T − 0.0063T 2 − 0.0163T Ln W ( R\textadj2 R_{\text{adj}}^{2}  = 0.964; ANOVA P < 0.0001).The results suggest that the optimum temperature for SGR and FE (T SGRopt and T FEopt), and the temperature at which the maximum SFR (T SFRmax) is reached, decreases with body weight, in accordance with the equations: T SGRopt = 33.297 − 1.435 Ln W; T FEopt = 29.332 − 1.890 Ln W; and T SFRmax = 34.941 − 1.304 Ln W, respectively. In this way, T SGRopt is 28.4, 26.7, and 24.7°C; T SFRmax is 30.5, 28.9, and 27.1°C and T FEopt is 22.9, 20.6, and 18°C for 30, 100 and 400 g body weight, respectively.  相似文献

This study examined the ability of shrimp shell to remove arsenic (As) from aqueous solutions. The shells of two species of shrimp, black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon and white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei, were chosen to be the sorbents. Laboratory exposure experiments estimated uptake and depuration rate constants (i.e., k 1 and k 2) as well as the bioconcentration factors (BCF) of the shells of the two shrimps. A first-order one-compartment model was presented to describe the uptake kinetics of As in shrimp shell. The resulting k 1, k 2, and BCF values of black tiger shrimp were 0.034–1.722 ml/g/day, 0.007–0.345 g/g/day, and 5.08 ± 1.56 ml/g, while those for white shrimp were 0.053–0.523 ml/g/day, 0.011–0.237 g/g/day, and 3.95 ± 1.88 ml/g, respectively. The sorption capacities of black tiger shrimp shell and white shrimp shell were 1.08 × 10−4–6.66 × 10−3 and 1.04 × 10−4–3.26 × 10−3 mmol/g, respectively. The sorption capacity of shrimp shell increased with the initial As concentration in water. Shrimp shell, as a waste material, could be potentially used for the removal of As from an aqueous medium. Although the As-removal capacity of shrimp shell was lower than those of natural and chemical sorbents, using shrimp shells as sorbents is less expensive and could increase the additional value of shrimp products.  相似文献

To provide target strength (TS) information for estimating the body length of yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares and its abundance around fish aggregating devices, TS was measured ex situ and in situ. In the ex situ TS measurements, two cameras synchronized with a 200 kHz echosounder were used to obtain the precise orientation of the yellowfin tuna under free swimming conditions. The ex situ TS (dB re 1 m2)–fork length (FL, cm) regression was: TS = 27.06 log (FL) − 85.04. Ex situ TS was found to reach its maximum in the tilt angle range of −15° to −20° after excluding TS samples with insignificant correlation to the tilt angle. The angle between the vertebra and the swim bladder was approximately 25° according to X-ray images, supporting the above tilt range. The relationship between the swim bladder volume (V SB, ml) and the fork length was: V SB = 0.000213 FL3. The results from the in situ TS measurements indicated that the tilt angle was highly concentrated between −10° and 15°. The results from a calculation using the ex situ TS–FL equation with the fork length from biological sampling agreed strongly with the average in situ TS.  相似文献

Two trials were carried out in the laboratory in order to assess the effect of microparticulated feed (F) and live (Thalassiosira pseudonana, M) diets on the growth of recently set (396 ± 13 μm shell height) and 2 mm Crassostrea gigas postlarvae. Different proportions of M and F (100:0, 75:25, 50:50; 25:75, 0:100) were delivered in a single dose of 3 h d−1 in trial 1. Dietary M:F proportions of 100:0, 50:50, and 0:100 were delivered as a single pulse of 8 h d−1 (P1) or two pulses of 4 h−1 (P2) in trial 2. Maximal daily M ration was 296 cells μl−1 d−1 (trial 1), 150 M cells μl−1 d−1 (trial 2), or their equivalent F dry weight. Shell height (SH), dry (DW), and organic weight (AFDW) were evaluated weekly. Oysters from trial 1 significantly increased their size after 28 days, and exhibited no significant dietary differences in terms of DW (1.21 ± 0.15 to 2.01 ± 0.28 mg) or AFDW (0.091 ± 0.022 to 0.166 ± 0.029 mg). Newly set postlarvae (trial 2) also exhibited significant growth after 25 days. No dietary differences were observed in trial 2, yet P2 oysters attained significantly higher shell heights (825–912 μm) than P1 oysters (730–766 μm) after 25 d. Pulse effects were marginally not significant in terms of AFDW and growth rate. Together, these findings showed that balanced microfeeds have a practical potential for the culture of early C. gigas postlarvae, when they are delivered in pulse-feeding schemes  相似文献

The freshwater mussel Lamellidens corrianus (Lea 1834) is widely distributed in ponds and large bodies of perennial waters in the Indian subcontinent. It is one of the important species for producing freshwater pearls in India. As the freshwater pearl aquaculture activity may expand on wide scale in future, it may require collecting L. corrianus from the distant places and transport to pearl producing centres. Hence, in order to develop suitable method for transportation of L. corrianus to obtain high survival with minimum physiological stress, the present study was conducted. L. corrianus were transported by two different methods i.e. in air (in wet gunny bags) and in water (in plastic polyethylene bags containing water) to find out the best method for transportation. Glucose was chosen as the stress factor as the heightened circulating glucose levels may reflect the bivalve’s ability to respond to weather extremes, handling stress or any recent environmental stress perceived to require extra energy. Experiments were conducted both under field as well as laboratory conditions, during the start of winter season, where regional temperature falls to 4–5°C below the average. Under the field experiment, L. corrianus (total length = 8.26 ± 0.34 cm; wet weight = 52.62 ± 3.18 g) were transported by road from Khopoli (Dist. Raigad, Maharashtra State) to Ratnagiri (Dist. Ratnagiri, Maharashtra State) for 12 h in air and water (reservoir water temperature = 26.4°C). Under laboratory conditions, simulating air transportation was done in wet gunny bags (42.5 cm × 62.5 cm), each bag containing 50 mussels (total length = 8.34 ± 0.46 cm; wet weight = 53.2 ± 3.24 g). Simulating water transportation was carried out using plastic polyethylene bags (45 cm × 60 cm), with 50 mussels in five litres of water (water temperature = 26.5°C). At periodical intervals, glucose concentrations from mantle, gill and posterior adductor muscle were estimated. Under both field and laboratory conditions, glucose levels were significantly higher in mantle, gill and posterior adductor muscle tissue of L. corrianus transported in air when compared to that of water-transported mussels. Results showed that air transportation was comparatively more stressful than water transportation. However, cent per cent survival was obtained in the both methods just after transportation and after 7 days of transportation. Considering the absence of mortality in both methods, it can be concluded that the choice of the mussel transportation method is more economical dependent than biological dependent.  相似文献

No data have previously been reported on Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis L. in Lake Varese. In this study, the growth, diet, and reproductive biology of the Eurasian perch population were investigated with the aim of providing information that may serve as a basis for efficient resource management. A total of 240 specimens were caught during the monthly sampling campaign from November 2006 through October 2008. The length-to-weight relationships were W t = 8.4 × 10−3 L t3.10 (males) and W t = 4.1 × 10−3 L t3.36 (females). The parameters for the von Bertalanffy growth function for pooled sexes were L  = 33.17 cm, k = 0.20 year−1, and t 0 = −1.34 year. Perch in Lake Varese spawn from April through May. Sexual maturity is reached when males are 2 years old, in females mostly when they are 3 years old. Relative fecundity (F rel) and absolute fecundity (F abs) were assessed for females. Fecundity values were similar to data reported for other European populations: females of age 2+ F rel = 102,457 ± 12,275, age 3+ F rel = 131,767 ± 5,891, and age 4+ F rel = 131,252 ± 15,555. Perch diet spectrum was wide and somewhat characterized by season. Perch in Lake Varese feed on macroinvertebrates, mainly Chironomidae and Chaoborus, zooplankton, and juvenile rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus.  相似文献

Sound-speed and density contrasts (h and g, respectively), important acoustic material properties, of Japanese sandeel Ammodytes personatus were measured to estimate theoretical target strength (TS). The measured sound-speed contrast of adult fish varied between 1.016 and 1.023 (mean 1.020), and showed temperature dependence. The measured density contrast differed significantly between juvenile and adult. The density contrast of juvenile varied between 1.017 and 1.024 (1.021), and that of adult varied between 1.026 and 1.038 (1.032). Using these results, TS at 38 and 120 kHz in the fishing season were estimated by an empirical sound scattering model. TS of an individual fish varied significantly with change of tilt angle. TS of near-dorsal aspect (TSmax) and tilt-averaged TS (TSave) differed by up to 7 dB. At both frequencies, two different TSave−length relationships (TSave = a log L + b) were obtained for adult and juvenile. The coefficients of log L of adult were close to 20, suggesting that backscattering strength was proportional to square of body length. These values were larger in juvenile (34.0 at 120 kHz, 56.5 at 38 kHz), suggesting that backscattering strength varied drastically with the cube or fifth power of body length.  相似文献

The catch of red tilefish by the Japanese longline fishery in the East China Sea has steeply declined during the last two decades, and resource management is clearly required. This study presents the size selectivity of hooks for red tilefish as a method to control first capture size, based on the results of longline fishing experiments using “Tainawa-bari” hooks of several sizes: Japanese nominal sizes J#10, J#11, J#12, J#13, J#14 and J#16. On the assumption of geometrical similarity in the combination of upper jaw length u and hook width g at a given retention probability, a single master curve s(R) = exp (−14.42 + 8.85R)/(1 + exp [−14.42 + 8.85R]) was estimated in terms of relative upper jaw length to hook width, R = u/g, using the SELECT method based on a multinomial distribution. The relative upper jaw length for 50% retention is 1.63, and the selection range is 0.25. Almost all fish over 300 mm in total length were retained by a hook of size J#12, but smaller fish with less commercial value were also caught. Moreover, J#10 hooks catch fish with total lengths of >250 mm efficiently. This indicates that J#10 and J#12 hooks that are currently used are too small to optimize yield per recruit and also for resource conservation.  相似文献

Juvenile cobia (Rachycentron canadum) (total length 15.16 ± 0.92 cm and weight 19.26 ± 4.5 g) were exposed to different concentrations of ammonia–N (unionized plus ionized ammonia as nitrogen), using the static renewal method at different salinity levels of 5, 20, and 35‰ at pH 8.1 and 25°C. The 24, 48, 72, 96 h LC50 values of ammonia–N for R. canadum juveniles were 60.28, 48.57, 37.42, 22.73 mg l−1 at 35‰; 51.25, 43.63, 28.17, 19.05 mg l−1 at 20‰; and 39.48, 25.31, 19.50, 8.13 mg l−1 at 5‰, respectively. The 24, 48, 72, 96 h LC50 values of NH3–N (unionized ammonia as nitrogen) were 1.81, 1.46, 1.12, and 0.68 mg l−1 at 35‰; 1.75, 1.49, 0.96, and 0.65 mg l−1 at 20‰; and 1.52, 0.97, 0.71, and 0.31 mg l−1 at 5‰, respectively. As the salinity decreased from 35 to 5‰, susceptibility of ammonia–N increased by 34.5, 47.88, 50.56, and 64.23% after 24, 48, 72, and 96 h exposure, respectively. Furthermore, we found that exposure of fish to ammonia–N caused an increase in oxygen consumption of 129.1, 157.5, and 192% and a decrease in the ammonia excretion level of 53.4, 38.2, and 23.3% with respect to the control.  相似文献

The weaning phase can be decisive in fish-culture viability. In this work, the relationship between the initial size and weaning success has been studied in wedge sole (Dicologoglossa cuneata). For each age (30, 50, and 70 days after hatching, DAH), two to three sizes were selected, and all were put on the same feeding schedule for 20 days. Each batch (three replicates) was sampled at 1, 10, and 20 days. Specific growth rate (SGR) and survival were compared at the end of the co-feeding period, after 10 days on dry feed only. The best results for survival and growth were found with the smallest larvae, and vice versa. The SGRs and survival rates recorded during the co-feeding period were higher (0.8–15.6 day−1 and 68.3–97.8%) than those from the dry-food phase (0.9–4.7 day−1 and 56.3–66.7%). Successful weaning (survival = 65% and SGR = 9.3 day−1) is possible with 30 DAH larvae (7.6–8.1 mm and 3.9–4.6 mg). In conclusion, the most effective weaning would be possible at 30 DAH, implying significant Artemia savings (25–50%).  相似文献

The growth and reproductive cycle of cultured black-lipped pearl oysters, Pinctada margaritifera (L.), were studied in the Gambier Islands (134°52′ W, 23°07′ S) from September 2002 to August 2003. Temperatures were recorded throughout the year, revealing seasonal temperature variations between 22.3 and 27.8°C. The mean annual chlorophyll a value, as computed from satellite data, was 0.188 ± 0.075 μg L−1. To study growth and reproduction, 720 two-year-old individuals were ear hung on long-lines suspended at a depth of 7 m. Samples were taken twice a month to obtain the following measurements: shell height; wet weight of flesh and total oyster; dry weight of adductor muscle, mantle and visceral mass; and glycogen content. Gonad development was also studied by histology on parallel samples. Growth was relatively fast during the first 6 months of the study: average shell height increased from 89.1 ± 9.1 to 119.7 ± 10.8 mm and total weight from 93.4 ± 24.5 to 155.1 ± 33.6 g, between September and the end of March. Subsequently, from April to August, no significant growth was observed for shell and flesh, while the muscle weight decreased significantly. Condition index (CI), defined as the ratio of wet weight of the visceral mass to shell weight, and histological changes in the gonad revealed 3 significant reproductive events of different intensities. The analysis of correlations revealed a specific effect of the chlorophyll a concentration on the growth of shell and soma, and one of the temperature on tissue glycogen content. This study also showed also that CI could be an efficient indicator of reproductive events in pearl oyster. It thus appears that the development of gonads goes on throughout the year in the Gambier Islands, without any detectable phase of sexual rest.  相似文献

The growth, sex ratio with age, and age at sexual maturation were determined based on sectioned otoliths in 257 specimens of the blackspot tuskfish Choerodon schoenleinii collected in waters off Ryukyu Island. Opaque rings observed by reflected light in the sectioned otoliths were found to form once a year from January to July. The three growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation were L = 68.1 (cm), k = 0.263, and t 0 = −0.023 (year). The age at which the sex ratio reached 50% by sexual transition was about 6.15 years, and the age at which 50% of females were sexually mature was approximately 2 years. The oldest specimen among the samples was 17 years old.  相似文献

The odorous compounds including geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) were detected in intensively cultivated freshwater ponds in Beijing, China, by coupling head space solid-phase microextraction with gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Moreover, the biomass of phytoplankton and actinomycetes in the fishponds were determined simultaneously, and the relationship between the concentrations of these odorous compounds and the biomass of phytoplankton and actinomycetes was assessed. The results showed that among the odorous compounds detected, geosmin was the main one, and concentrations of 1.22–35.58 ng l−1 were found in all fishponds. Besides, MIB with 1.39–6.00 ng l−1 was found in parts of fishponds. Six phyla and 22 genera of algae were observed in the fishponds with a biomass of 17.33–178.34 mg l−1, among which dominant phyla were Bacillariophyta and Euglenophyta. Four genera of actinomycetes with a gross biomass of 0–76 × 104 ind l−1 were found in the fishponds, of which Streptomyces spp. was the dominant genera. This indicated that geosmin concentration in fishponds was related with the total biomass of the dominant algae. The results showed that Melosira spp. and Cyclotella spp. were the main microalgae to cause off-flavor in Beijing’s intensively cultivated freshwater ponds in summer and autumn, while Euglenophyta and other algaes played a small role in causing off-flavor.  相似文献

To predict the occurrence of cannibalism in the culture of larval black rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii, we developed a regression model based on morphometric measurements. First, 156 black rockfish were measured to obtain a theoretical model, that is LT prey = 0.624 LT cannibal + 0.835. Then, 202 trials of paired fish, together with 31 pairs of cannibalistic fish, were used to revise this model, and the practical model was constructed: LT prey = 0.522 LT cannibal + 4.908 (R² = 0.99). According to this equation, the threshold of size ratio was deduced, that is 1.30–1.69, which could be used to grade black rockfish by size and remove potential cannibals.  相似文献

The interest in diversifying aquacultural production with new species is evident, preferably with species with a high commercial value and whose consumption is not geographically limited. In this sense, octopus would be a good choice. The present work, therefore, presents an economic-financial analysis of the commercial viability of octopus ongrowing in the Mediterranean, paying special attention to the one- or two-cycle approach. Viability–profitability equations are developed for analysing economic parameters associated with production. To estimate the investment, an offshore ongrowing installation was designed comprising 150 cages containing 30,000 individuals. Growth was estimated for the two strategies: (A) Two consecutive cycles per year (2CY), each lasting 3.5 months from October to June. Initial weight was 0.7 kg, and the mean final weight was 2.7 kg. (B) One growth cycle per year (1CY) beginning in November or December and finishing in April or May, starting with the same weight individuals (0.7 kg) and giving individuals with a final weight of 3.65 kg. The highest costs, the most important from an economic point of view, are feed (38.57 and 40.03%, respectively), fixed assets (25.26 and 17.47%, respectively), juveniles (16.65 and 23.02%, respectively), and in fourth place salaries (14.34 and 15.60%, respectively). The equations obtained for the variables NPV (Net Present Value) and IRR (Internal Ratio of Return) are the following: 1 cycle per year (1CY), NPV = −489,088 − 1.45 K − 1,439,823 C F − 1,477,890 C J − 1,460,627 C O + 1,432,386 SP, IRR = 0.1328 − 7.82 × 10−8 K − 0.0416 C F − 0.0437 C J − 0.0427 C O + 0.0412 SP. 2 cycles per year (2CY), NPV = −404,431 − 1.46 K − 2,118,410 C F − 2,121,221 C J − 2,144,755 C O + 2,129,223 SP, and IRR = 0.0952 − 6.95 × 10−8 K − 0.0586 C F − 0.0588 C J − 0.0588 C O + 0.0613 SP. The NPV and IRR values estimated with the econometric equations for each option using the initial variables confirm that 1CY has a higher NPV (3,013,569 €) and IRR (12.27%) than 2CY, with an NPV of 2,396,708 € and IRR of 10.39%. In both cases, octopus ongrowing is economically viable, although 1CY is the most favourable system.  相似文献
