The purpose of this study was to compare 3 methods for the reduction of aerosol transmission of Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV): high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration, low-cost filtration, and ultraviolet light (UV) irradiation. The HEPA-filtration system involved a pre-filter screen, a bag filter (EU8 rating), and a HEPA filter (EU13 rating). The low-cost-filtration system contained mosquito netting (pre-filter), a fiberglass furnace filter, and an electrostatic furnace filter. For UV irradiation, a lamp emitted UVC radiation at 253.7 nm. No form of intervention was used in the control group. The experimental facilities consisted of 2 chambers connected by a 1.3-m-long duct. Recipient pigs, housed in chamber 2, were exposed to artificial aerosols created by a mechanically operated mister containing modified live PRRSV vaccine located in chamber 1. Aerosol transmission of PRRSV occurred in 9 of the 10 control replicates, 8 of the 10 UVC-irradiation replicates, 4 of the 10 low-cost-filtration replicates, and 0 of the 10 HEPA-filtration replicates. When compared with no intervention, HEPA filtration and low-cost filtration significantly reduced PRRSV transmission (P < 0.0005 and = 0.0286, respectively), whereas UV irradiation had no effect (P = 0.5). However, low-cost filtration and UV irradiation were significantly less effective (P = 0.043 and P < 0.0005, respectively) than HEPA filtration. In conclusion, under the conditions of this study, HEPA filtration was significantly more effective at reducing aerosol transmission of PRRSV than the other methods evaluated.  相似文献

Abstract

Head and lateral line erosion syndrome (HLLES) is a common but very poorly understood disease of marine aquarium fish. One suspected etiology is the use of granulated activated carbon (GAC) to filter the water. Seventy-two ocean surgeons Acanthurus bahianus were distributed among three carbon-negative control systems and three GAC-treated systems such that each tank contained approximately the same total body mass. Each replicate system was made up of two 250-L circular tanks with a common filtration system (6 fish per tank, 12 fish per replicate system). The GAC-treated tanks were exposed to full-stream, extruded coconut shell activated carbon, which produced a mean total organic carbon content of 0.4 mg/L. The results of this study indicate that extruded coconut shell activated carbon filtering at full-stream rates can cause HLLES-type lesions in ocean surgeons. The HLLES developed exponentially over 15 d, beginning in the chin region. This was followed by pitting in the cheek region, which expanded until erosions coalesced. Once the carbon was discontinued, the processes reversed in a mean time of 49 d. As the lesions healed, they reverted from the coalesced to the pitted stage and then darkened before returning to normal.

The issue of whether market fish can be involved in the transmission of Toxoplasma gondii in the marine environment is highly debated since toxoplasmosis has been diagnosed frequently in cetaceans stranded along the Mediterranean coastlines in recent times. To support the hypothesis that fishes can harbour and effectively transmit the parasite to top‐of‐the‐food‐chain marine organisms and to human consumers of fishery products, a total of 1,293 fishes from 17 species obtained from wholesale and local fish markets were examined for T. gondii DNA. Real‐time PCR was performed in samples obtained by separately pooling intestines, gills and skin/muscles collected from each fish species. Thirty‐two out of 147 pooled samples from 12 different fish species were found contaminated with T. gondii DNA that was detected in 16 samples of skin/muscle and in 11 samples of both intestine and gills. Quantitative analysis of amplified DNA performed by both real‐time PCR and digital PCR (dPCR) confirmed that positive fish samples were contaminated with Toxoplasma genomic DNA to an extent of 6.10 × 10?2 to 2.77 × 104 copies/ml (quantitative PCR) and of 1 to 5.7 × 104 copies/ml (dPCR). Fishes are not considered competent biological hosts for T. gondii; nonetheless, they can be contaminated with T. gondii oocysts flowing via freshwater run‐offs (untreated sewage discharges, soil flooding) into the marine environment, thus acting as mechanical carriers. Although the detection of viable and infective T. gondii oocysts was not the objective of this investigation, the results here reported suggest that fish species sold for human consumption can be accidentally involved in the transmission route of the parasite in the marine environment and that the risk of foodborne transmission of toxoplasmosis to fish consumers should be further investigated.  相似文献

Tumour‐associated macrophages (TAMs) have been implicated in carcinogenesis including an important role in angiogenesis. In this study, we describe the relationship between TAMs and angiogenesis in canine mammary tumours (CMT). Formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded CMT samples [(n = 128: malignant (n = 97) and benign (n = 31)] were submitted to immunohistochemical staining to detect MAC387, vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF and CD31 expression. A statistical analysis was carried out to assess possible associations with clinicopathological variables and biological markers of tumour angiogenesis. TAMs, detected by MAC387 expression, were significantly associated with malignant CMT (P < 0.001) and VEGF positive tumours (P = 0.002) and also associated with VEGF expression within malignant CMT (P = 0.043). Associations with clinicopathological variables were found between TAMs and the presence of infiltrative growth (P = 0.031), low tubule formation (P = 0.040) and lymph node metastasis (P = 0.016). The results support the hypothesis that TAMs influence angiogenesis in CMT suggesting TAMs may represent a therapeutic target in this disease.  相似文献

Abstract

Information on the distribution and abundance of Myxobolus cerebralis triactinomyxons in natural systems is limited because direct and accurate sampling methods for this life stage have not been developed. Existing methods are based on indirect measures of triactinomyxon densities and are therefore confounded. Direct estimation of triactinomyxon concentrations would more exactly pinpoint the ambient infection risk to wild fish and allow evaluation of management strategies designed to mitigate the effects of the disease. We developed a mobile packed-bed filtration system that quickly, accurately, and precisely collects, concentrates, and quantifies triactinomyxons. The system includes pumping, prefiltration, two rounds of packed-bed filtration, and centrifugation. Laboratory tests of the completed system using known quantities of triactinomyxons resulted in a mean recovery rate of 91% with a minimum detectable concentration of triactinomyxons of 0.04/L. We subsequently field-tested the system at a site known to be positive for the parasite and recovered triactinomyxons at densities of 0.7–1.4/L. The packed-bed filtration system has the potential to quickly determine the temporal and spatial variation in infection risk and to test the efficacy of various management strategies.  相似文献

Public aquaria evaluate coliform indicator bacteria levels in fish systems, but the purpose of testing, testing methods, and management responses are not standardized, unlike with the coliform bacteria testing for marine mammal enclosures required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. An online survey was sent to selected aquaria to document current testing and management practices in fish systems without marine mammals. The information collected included indicator bacteria species, the size and type of systems monitored, the primary purpose of testing, sampling frequency, test methods, the criteria for interpreting results, corrective actions, and management changes to limit human exposure. Of the 25 institutions to which surveys were sent, 19 (76%) responded. Fourteen reported testing for fecal indicator bacteria in fish systems. The most commonly tested indicator species were total (86%) and fecal (79%) coliform bacteria, which were detected by means of the membrane filtration method (64%). Multiple types and sizes of systems were tested, and the guidelines for testing and corrective actions were highly variable. Only three institutions performed additional tests to confirm the identification of indicator organisms. The results from this study can be used to compare bacterial monitoring practices and protocols in fish systems, as an aid to discussions relating to the accuracy and reliability of test results, and to help implement appropriate management responses.

Abstract

A method was developed to experimentally induce saprolegniasis in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. The development of a reliable method to produce infected fish is essential to efforts to determine the efficacy of various antifungal treatments. Three methods for inducing saprolegniasis were evaluated in waters containing known concentrations of Saprolegnia parasitica zoospores. These methods included application of the following stressors to fish: (1) abrasion and dewatering, (2) water temperature increase, and (3) a combination of abrasion, dewatering, and temperature increase. Neither physical abrasion nor temperature increase stress alone was effective for inducing saprolegniasis. Only 25.9% of fish stressed by abrasion and dewatering alone became infected. Application of both abrasion and temperature stress, however, induced saprolegniasis in 77.8% of fish tested. Most of these fish became infected after 5 d of stress treatments. No fish became infected or died in the positive control group (not stressed but exposed to S. parasitica zoospores) or the negative control group (not stressed or challenged). This method should enable researchers to induce saprolegniasis in rainbow trout to study its pathogenesis or to test the efficacy of antifungal treatments. In conducting efficacy studies, it is important that therapeutic treatments begin promptly after the first signs of saprolegniasis are observed because the disease can progress very quickly and often results in mortality.  相似文献

Abstract

Two sizes of fingerling Snake River cutthroat trout Oncorhynchus clarkii behnkei and Colorado River rainbow trout O. mykiss were raised at hatcheries testing negative for Myxobolus cerebralis and stocked into the Dolores and Cache la Poudre rivers from 1999 to 2001. Populations were resampled over a 2-year period to determine which species and size combination had the highest growth and survival rates. Fish were tested for M. cerebralis via polymerase chain reaction and pepsin?trypsin digest analyses. Growth and survival rates between the species and size groups were not significantly different in either river. In the Dolores River, annual survival for both species and sizes of fish combined ranged from 0.063 to 0.12. In the Cache la Poudre River, survival for both sizes of rainbow trout was 0.004; survival for cutthroat trout ranged from 0.182 to 0.53. Larger fish had higher growth rates than smaller fish, and cutthroat trout had higher rates than similar sizes of rainbow trout. In both rivers, a higher percentage of the rainbow trout sample was infected than in the cutthroat trout sample. Rainbow trout also had a higher mean number of spores per head than cutthroat trout, and small rainbow trout had higher spore counts than large rainbow trout. Survival rates for cutthroat trout in the Cache la Poudre River were the highest of any of the groups, suggesting a difference that is biologically significant. Raising fingerlings to sizes greater than 100 mm can improve poststocking survival. If rainbow trout are stocked into contaminated waters, raising fingerlings to a larger size does not appear to improve growth or survival rates. Stocking rainbow trout in the spring could maximize growth rates but will expose fish to greater triactinomyxon densities, resulting in higher intensities of infection.  相似文献

Tumour‐associated macrophages (TAMs) have already been associated in human breast cancer to a poor prognosis. As a part of a tumoural microenvironment, TAMs have an important contribution influencing neoplastic progression. Hitherto, in canine mammary tumours (CMT) the prognostic value of TAMs has not been reported. In this study, MAC387 immunohistochemical expression was evaluated in 59 CMTs (20 benign and 39 malignant). The TAM value was significantly higher in malignant than benign CMT (P = 0.011). In malignant CMT, TAMs were associated with skin ulceration (P = 0.022), histological type (P = 0.044), nuclear grade (P = 0.031) and tubular differentiation (P = 0.042). The survival analysis revealed a significant association between tumours with higher levels of TAMs and the decrease in overall survival (P = 0.030). TAMs have proven to have a prognostic value. These findings suggest the future possibility of using TAMs as a novel therapeutic target in CMT.  相似文献

The ultrastructural and cytochemical properties of peripheral blood cells of Gymnocypris eckloni were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and a range of cytochemical techniques to provide clear insight into the structure and function of blood cells from this fish. Ultrastructurally, erythrocytes, leucocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, monocytes), thrombocytes and plasma cells were identified in the peripheral blood of G. eckloni. The most special ultrastructural characteristics of blood cells in this fish were that neutrophils exhibited only one type of cytoplasmic granules containing an eccentric, spherical or oval electron‐dense core, and eosinophils presented two types of granules with non‐uniform electronic density and without crystalloids in their cytoplasm. Neutrophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, monocytes and thrombocytes were positive for periodic acid–Schiff and α‐naphthyl acetate esterase staining. Intense peroxidase positive staining was observed in neutrophils and monocytes, but not in eosinophils, lymphocytes and thrombocytes. Neutrophils, eosinophils and monocytes were stained positively for acid phosphatase, whereas lymphocytes and thrombocytes did not stain. Leucocytes and thrombocytes were negative for alkaline phosphatase and Sudan black B staining. Erythrocytes were negative for all cytochemical staining. The cytochemical and ultrastructural features of peripheral blood cells of G. eckloni were similar to those of other fish species. However, some important differences were identified in G. eckloni.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare 4 methods for the reduction of aerosol transmission of Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV): high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration, 2x-low-cost filtration, bag filtration, and use of a filter tested against particles derived from dioctylphthalate (DOP). The HEPA-filtration system used a prefilter screen, a bag filter (Eurovent [EU] 8 rating), and a HEPA filter (EU13 rating). The low-cost-filtration system contained mosquito netting (prefilter), 2 fiberglass furnace filters, and 2 electrostatic furnace filters. Bag filtration involved the use of a filter rated EU8 and a minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) of 14. The 95%-DOP, 0.3-microm-filtration system involved a pleat-in-pleat V-bank disposable filter with a 95% efficiency rating for particles 0.3 microm or greater in diameter and ratings of EU9 and MERV 15. No form of intervention was used in the control group. The experimental facilities consisted of 2 chambers connected by a 1.3-m-long duct containing the treatments. Recipient pigs, housed in chamber 2, were exposed to artificial aerosols created by a mechanically operated mister containing modified live PRRSV vaccine located in chamber 1. Aerosol transmission of PRRSV occurred in 0 of the 10 HEPA-filtration replicates, 2 of the 10 bag-filtration replicates, 4 of the 10 low-cost-filtration replicates, 0 of the 10 95%-DOP, 0.3-microm-filtration replicates, and all 10 of the control replicates. Using a similar approach, we further evaluated the HEPA- and 95%-DOP, 0.3-microm-filtration systems. Infection was not observed in any of the 76 HEPA-filtration replicates but was observed in 2 of the 76 95%-DOP, 0.3-microm replicates and 42 of the 50 control replicates. Although the difference between the 95%-DOP, 0.3-microm and control replicates was significant (P < 0.0005), so was the level of failure of the 95%-DOP, 0.3-microm system (P = 0.02). In conclusion, under the conditions of this study, some methods of air filtration were significantly better than others in reducing aerosol transmission of PRRSV, and HEPA filtration was the only system that completely prevented transmission.  相似文献

Abstract

Juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss and brown trout Salmo trutta acclimated to freshwater or salinities of 9.0‰ or less were exposed to Yersinia ruckeri, the bacterial pathogen that causes enteric redmouth disease (ERM). Both species of fish were kept in the same recirculating systems after bacterial exposure. Rainbow trout mortality was significantly (P < 0.05) different in each salinity: 96.5% in freshwater, 89.5% in water of 1.1‰ salinity, 81.3% in 3.0‰ salinity, and 75.0% in 9.0‰ salinity (model SE = 1.0). All deaths occurred between 3 and 12 d after exposure to Y. ruckeri. Only 2.3% of brown trout in all salinities died, and differences among treatments were not significant. For both fish species, Y. ruckeri was isolated from liver, spleen, and trunk kidney of fish dying during this experiment, and lesions of rainbow trout were consistent with ERM. Yersinia ruckeri was not isolated from brown trout surviving for 21 d after bacterial exposure but was isolated from 3 of 24 surviving rainbow trout; a polymerase chain reaction assay detected the DNA of Y. ruckeri in 3 additional rainbow trout survivors. Neither the lesions of fish with ERM nor the percentage of surviving fish subclinically infected with Y. ruckeri was affected by salinity. Bacterial growth in vitro was not affected by low (≤9.0‰) salinity; however, bacterial adhesion to polystyrene was significantly reduced as salinity increased. Although mortality caused by Y. ruckeri was significantly lower for rainbow trout in water with slightly increased salinity, none of the salinities tested was effective in preventing serious losses caused by this pathogen in recirculating systems.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of turbidity on the feeding strategies of fish in estuaries. Three species representing different feeding guilds were selected for the investigation. These were Elops machnata (representative piscivore), Pomadasys commersonnii (a macrobenthivore) and Atherina breviceps (a planktivore). The stomach contents of these fish were examined from a clear and a turbid estuary and some experimental work was carried out on A breviceps to test the hypothesis that turbidity affects feeding behaviour. Turbidity was found to have no effect on size selection of prey, but feeding rate, particularly of visual predators, was reduced at higher turbidity levels. This was caused by a decrease in the reactive distance of the fish. It would appear that in order to optimize the aquisition of food under different turbidity conditions fishes have the ability to change their feeding strategies. Visual predators are more affected by turbidity than are macrobenthic feeders.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were (1) to evaluate available coprological and serological tests for detection of Fasciola hepatica infection in field conditions, (2) to investigate if the season when samples were collected affects the interpretation of the test results, and (3) to evaluate if the test results are associated with the level of infection. During weekly visits to an abattoir, the whole liver, a rectal faecal sample and a blood sample were collected from 100 cows in two seasons each ("spring"=February-May 2006 and "autumn"=October-December 2006). A sedimentation-flotation technique on 4g (SF 4g) or 10g (SF 10g) of faeces, a copro-antigen ELISA and two indirect serum F. hepatica ELISAs (excretory-secretory (ES) and Pourquier ELISA) were performed and the test results were compared with the presence of infection and worm counts at liver necropsy. Over both seasons the sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) were for the SF 4g 43% and 100%, for the SF 10g 64% and 93%, for the copro-antigen ELISA 94% and 93%, for the ES ELISA 87% and 90% and for the Pourquier ELISA 88% and 84%. Significant between-season differences (P<0.05) were observed in the sensitivities of the two serological ELISAs: whereas the Pourquier ELISA had a higher sensitivity in spring than in autumn, the opposite was true for the ES ELISA. There were no significant between-season differences in the specificity for any of the tests. The test results of the SF 4g, copro-antigen ELISA and ES ELISA were associated with the level of infection of the animal. Given a positive test result of the SF 4g it is at least 11 times more likely that the animal is carrying a heavy infection (>10 flukes) than that is free of infection or lightly infected (< or = 10 flukes). Weak ( approximately 0.3) and moderate ( approximately 0.6) correlations were observed within infected animals of level of infection with ES and copro-antigen ELISA results, respectively.  相似文献

Environmental samples and samples of partially processed fish from a cold-smoked salmon processing and packing plant, and product samples purchased from retail outlets, were examined for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes and other Listeria spp., motile aeromonads and Yersinia enterocolitica. Listeria spp. were not isolated from rati fish but were a contaminant of processed and partially processed fish. Listeria spp. were also detected in 18.8% of surfaces in contact with fish. Unlike Listeria spp., motile aeromonads were isolated from the raw fish but not from the finished product. They were more frequently isolated from environmental sources than Listeria spp. Yersinia enterocolitica was not isolated from any of the samples tested. Little evidence was found to show a coincidence of motile aeromonads and Listeria spp., since only one subset of samples showed such a link. It is concluded that contamination by Listeria spp. was from environmental sources at the processing plant at, or beyond, the slicing stage. Reducing the number of wet areas and special cleaning and sanitation considerations for a contaminated site (the freezer seal) are suggested as ways of reducing contamination of the product.  相似文献

Abstract

Following the detection of infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) in France in April 1987, a serological survey was conducted of the rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (formerly Salmo gairdneri) from an infected cultured stock previously known to be contaminated with viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) for 3 years. The work lasted from April to December 1987, at which time all the remaining fish were slaughtered. Serum samples were assayed by a plaque-reduction test and a simplified neutralization test that is more suitable for processing large numbers of serum samples. Such investigations revealed that IHNV neutralization by trout antibodies depended on trout complement, as did neutralization of VHSV. Incubation for 16 h at 4°C increased the sensitivity of the test compared to incubation for 1 h at 20°C. During the course of clinical IHN from April to June, young fish did not display any neutralizing activity, but in September, 29 of 50 of them exhibited significant anti-IHN neutralizing antibody titers ranging from 21 to over 160, and 18 of 46 of these same fingerlings did so in December. Similarly, fish that had undergone VHS infection in August began to develop anti-VHSV antibodies in December (5 of 50), demonstrating that one fish can harbor neutralizing antibodies to both IHNV and VHSV, and that these antibodies had required 14 weeks to appear under fish culture conditions at 10°C. As could be expected from seroneutralization tests, neutralizing antibodies to IHNV did not result in protection against VHS. Sera from 13 of 20 adult fish sampled in mid-June revealed neutralizing antibodies to IHNV, suggesting that they harbored the virus prior to the clinical infection that affected their progeny. Only two of the fish showed low anti-VHSV antibody titers. Similarly, neutralizing antibodies to IHNV were detected in 53 of 73 other adult fish sampled in late October, 10 months after they had spawned and 7 months after mortality had occurred among their progeny. Given the prevalence, level, and persistence of neutralizing antibody titers, the seroneutralization test would be worth investigating more thoroughly to define the conditions that could make it a reliable tool for checking the virus status of trout carriers.  相似文献

Abstract

Prebiotics recently have been shown to increase immune responses and disease resistance in certain fish species; therefore, the current study was conducted to evaluate the commercially available dairy–yeast prebiotic, GroBiotic-A, for use with juvenile goldfish Carassius auratus. The study consisted of two 10-week feeding trials in which juvenile goldfish were fed practical diets that were either unsupplemented or supplemented with the dairy–yeast prebiotic at 2% by dry weight. Juvenile fish were sorted by size and stocked into 12 units within each of two culture systems: one indoor system supplied with recirculated well water and one system located outdoors with a continuous flow of pond water to provide a source of phytoplankton and zooplankton. Both diets were fed to fish in six units within each system at the same fixed percentage of body weight twice daily. Culture system (i.e., presence or absence of phytoplankton and zooplankton) was the primary factor influencing (P < 0.0001) percent weight gain, feed efficiency, and survival of goldfish during the feeding trials. No dietary effect was detected, although there was a significant (P < 0.05) interaction between culture system and diet, with supplementation of the dairy–yeast prebiotic tending to improve weight gain and feed efficiency of fish in the presence of phytoplankton/zooplankton. During a controlled disease challenge with an intraperitoneally administered dose of Aeromonas hydrophila that was equivalent to a predetermined LD50 (dose lethal to 50% of test fish), average survival values ranged between 67% and 83% for fish that previously had access to phytoplankton/zooplankton compared with 17–33% for fish that had no access to phytoplankton/zooplankton. The dairy–yeast prebiotic, however, did not enhance resistance of goldfish to the bacterial pathogen and did not greatly alter microbiota of the anterior or posterior gastrointestinal tract based on denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis. In conclusion, the dairy–yeast prebiotic did not improve feed efficiency in goldfish or resistance to a bacterial pathogen as previously observed in golden shiners Notemigonus crysoleucas and hybrid bass (white bass Morone chrysops × striped bass M. saxatilis).  相似文献

Abstract

Two groups of Hudson River brown bullheads Ictalurus nebulosus were collected during fall 1987 in a preliminary investigation of the potential value of these fish as indicators of contamination of this body of water. Prevalence of some specific lesions, determined through histological examination of liver samples, may serve as an indicator of exposure to chemical contaminants. Significantly higher prevalences of hepatic hemosiderosis (P = 0.0092), periductal fibrosis (P = 0.0085), and duct and ductule proliferation (P = 0.0032) were found in fish collected from the contaminated site (Fort Edward, New York) than in fish from the noncontaminated reference site (Corinth, New York).  相似文献

Abstract

In the spring of 1998, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute received numerous reports of lesioned or ulcerated fish primarily from the St. Lucie Estuary on the southeast coast of Florida, an area known since the late 1970s for lesions of the ulcerative mycosis (UM) type. From these and archived reports, as well as others received from different areas of Florida, we documented that diseased specimens had randomly distributed skin ulcers (usually reddened or hemorrhagic) with raised irregular margins and, in some cases, deeply penetrating hyphae in the surrounding muscle tissue. Since 1998, 256 fish (comprising 18 species) with ulcerative lesions (from 15 different locations) were confirmed with hyphae in fresh squash preparation or by histological evaluation. Squash preparations revealed nonseptate, sparsely branching, thick-walled hyphae; histological sections revealed mycotic granulomas in the dermis that occasionally penetrated into the skeletal muscle. These pathological characteristics were consistent with UM caused by the oomycete Aphanomyces invadans in Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia, and the United States. For specific identification, six isolates from ulcerated fish were cultured and prepared for molecular characterization using established diagnostic methods. Ribosomal RNA gene sequence analysis identified three isolates as Aphanomyces invadans, one as the oomycete Achlya bisexualis, and two as the ascomycete Phialemonium dimorphosporum. A more extensive survey of 67 ulcerated skin samples from fish collected between 1998 and 2003 was performed using a polymerase chain reaction assay specific for Aphanomyces invadans. Of these, 26 (38.8%) samples from seven fish species and nine collection locations were positive. Confirmation of UM associated with Aphanomyces invadans represents new host records in Florida for the sheepshead Archosargus probatocephalus, striped mullet Mugil cephalus, white mullet Mugil curema, silver perch Bairdiella chrysoura, black drum Pogonias cromis, largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides, and American shad Alosa sapidissima.  相似文献
