Abstract— The thyroid gland in seventy-five cats has been examined. Abnormalities are by no means uncommon and cases of adenomas, adenomatous goitre, colloid goitre, carcinoma and amyloidosis are described.
Résumé— –On examina la glande thyroide de soixante-quinze chats. Les anomalies n'y sont pas rares du tout. L'auteur décrit des cas d'adénomes, de goitres adénomateux, de carcinomas, et de dégénérescences amyloides.

An anomaly of the fundus in a strain of pure-bred Beagle dogs is described clinically and histologically.

A procedure for the examination of the liver and pancreas in dogs

A technique is described for the visual examination and biopsy sampling of the affected organ in canine liver and pancreatic dysfunction.

The Estimation of Blood Urea by the Xanthydrol Reaction

Abstract— A simple inexpensive test is described for the estimation of blood urea. The Xanthydrol turbidity reaction is quickly determined and is a reasonably accurate method for quantitative estimation of nitrogen retention in chronic nephritis cases.
Résumé— Un test simple et économique est décrit pour la recherche et le dosage de l'urée sanguine. L'opacité de la réaction du Xanthydrol est rapidement déterminée et constitue une méthode assez précise pour l'estimation quantitative de la rétention azotée dans les cas de néphrite chronique.
Zusammenfassung— Es wird ein einfacher, billiger Test für die Blutharnstoff bestimmung beschrieben. Die Xanthydrol-Trübungsreaktion ist schnell durchführbar und ist eine ziemlich direkte Methode zur quantitativen Bestimmung der Stickstoffretention bei Fällen von chronischer Nephritis.     

A case of osteochondritis dissecans of the stifle joints in a bitch

A condition of the stifle joints of a young Alsatian bitch, resembling osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral head of the dog, is described. This case is compared with osteochondritis dissecans of the canine humeral head and with osteochondritis dissecans of the human knee.
Résumé. On décrit une atteinte du grasset d'une jeune chienne alsacienne ressemblant à l'ostéo-chondrite disséquante de la tête humérale du chien; on fait un parallèle entre la présente observation, et l'ostéochondrite disséquante de l'articulation du genou humain.
Zusammenfassung. Es wird ein Zustand der Kniegelenke einer jungen Schäferhündin beschrieben, die der Osteochondritis dissecans des Humeruskopfes beirn Hund gleicht. Dieser Fall wird mit Osteochondritis dissecans des Humeruskopfes des Hundes und mit Osteochondritis dissecans des menschlichen Knies verglichen.     

Multiple myeloma in a dog with some unusual features

Multiple myeloma with widespread lesions in skin, muscles and internal organs is described in an 8-month-old Boxer dog. The occurrence in such a young dog, the presence of extensive skin lesions and the absence of marked bone involvement are unusual features.
Résumé. On décrit des myélomes multiples avec des lésions répandues de la peau, des muscles et des organes internes, chez un Boxer de huit mois. L'occurrence de cette maladie chez un chien si jeune, la présence d'extensives lésions cutanées et le fait que les os n'aient pas été perceptiblement attaqués, sont des traits peu communs.
Zusammenfassung. KAHLER Syndrom mit weitverbreiteten Läsionen der Haut, Muskeln und der inneren Organe, ist in einem 8 Monate alten Boxer-Hund beschrieben. DieKrankheitserscheinung in solch einem jungen Hund, die vorhandenen ausgedehnten Haut Läsionen und das Fehlenvon wahrnehmbarer Auswirkung auf die Knochen, sind ungewöhnliche Merkmale.     

Arthritis and osteo-arthritis in dogs

One case of 'true' inflammatory arthritis (probably due to infection) is contrasted with three cases of degenerative joint disease (osteo-arthritis) in dogs. The pathology of the two conditions is described. Arthritis is characterized by primary changes of inflammatory nature in the synovial membrane whereas osteo-arthritis is primarily a degenerative change in the articular cartilage.
Résumé. On oppose un cas d'arthrite inflammatoire 'vraie' (probablement due à l'infection) à trois cas d'atteinte articulaire dégénérative (ostéo-arthrite) du chien. On décrit les caractères anatomopathologiques de ces deux affections. L'arthrite est caractérisée par des modifications primaires de nature inflammatoire de la membrane synoviale, alors que l'ostko-arthrite représente une atteinte dégéntrative primaire du cartilage.
Zusammenfassung. Ein Fall von 'echter' entzündlicher Arthritis (wahrscheinlich auf Infektion zurückzuführen) wird drei Fällen degenerativer Gelenkerkrankung (Osteoarthritis) bei Hunden gegenübergestellt. Die Pathologie der zwei Zustände wird beschrieben. Arthritis ist durch primäre Veränderungen entzündlichen Charakters in der Synoviamembran gekennzeich-net, während Osteoarthritis primär eine degenerative Veränderung im Knorpel ist.     

The surgical treatment of osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral head in dogs

The authors record their experiences of the surgical treatment of twenty-one unilateral and thirteen bilateral cases of osteochondritis dissecans of the humerus of the dog. The operative technique and the clinical pathology of the condition are described. In nearly all cases there was complete restoration of limb function within 3 months of surgery; this is a much better result than that obtained in a previous series treated conservatively. Nineteen of the affected dogs had signs of hip dysplasia.
Résumé. Les auteurs rapportent leurs expériences concernant le traitemerit chirurgical de 21 cas unilatéraux et de 13 cas bilatéraux d'ostéochondrite dissécante de l'humérus du chien. On décrit les techniques opératoires et les données de l'examen clinique. Dans presque tous les cas, on a obtenu une restauration presque complète de la fonction du membre dans les 3 mois qui ont suivi l'opération, ce qui représente un résultat nettement supérieur à celui obtenu dans des séries précédentes traitées par un mode conservateur. Dix-neuf des chiens atteints ont présenté des signes de dysplasie de la hanche.
Zusammenfassung. Die Autoren geben ihre Erfahrungen mit der chirurgischen Behandlung von 21 einseitigen und 13 beidseitigen Fällen von Osteochondritis dissecans des Humerus des Hundes bekannt. Die Operationstechnik und die klinische Pathologie des Zustands werden beschrieben. In fast allen Fällen wurde die vollständige Wiederherstellung der Extremitätenfunktion innerhalb von drei Monaten nach dem chirurgischen Eingriff erreicht; dies ist ein viel besseres Ergebnis, als mit einer früheren Reihe von Fällen durch konservative Behandlung erzielt wurde. Neunzehn der erkrankten Hunde wiesen Anzeichen von Hüftdysplasie auf.     

Infraspinatus contracture associated with suprascapular paralysis in a dog

The clinical signs, diagnosis and surgical treatment of a case of lameness due to contracture of the infraspinatus muscle in a 5-year-old dog are described. Although the cause of the contracture remains unknown, concurrent atrophy of this muscle and the supraspinatus suggest that trauma to the suprascapular nerve was involved.
Résumé. On décrit les symptômes cliniques, le diagnostic et le traitement chirurgique d'un cas de claudication dû à la contracture du muscle infraspinal chez un chien âgé de cinq ans. Bien que la cause de la contracture reste inconnue, l'atrophie coexistante de ce muscle et celle du muscle susépineux suggèrent l'implication de trauma au nerf susscapulaire.

Die klinischen Symptome, Diagnose und chirurgische Behandlung in einem Fall von Lahmheit, zuzuschreiben der Kontraktur des Musculus infraspinatus in einem fünfjährigen Hund, sind beschrieben. Obwohl die Ursache der Kontraktur unbekannt bleibt, gleichzeitige Abzehrung dieses Muskels und des Musculus supraspinatus, deutet an, dass Trauma des suprascapular Nervs mit einbegriffen war.     

Papular and Plaque-like Mucinosis in a Puppy

Abstract— A case of a papular and plaque-like superficial dermal mucinosis with pruritus in a mixed-breed puppy is reported. The mucinosis and pruritus were non-responsive to glucocorticoid or antibiotic therapy and the dog was eventually euthanised at the owner's request. This type of mucinosis has not been reported in the dog to the authors' knowledge. It shares some similarities with discrete papular mucinosis and self-healing juvenile cutaneous mucinosis in people.
Résumé— Un cas de mucinose dermique superficielle en plaque et papuleuse avec prurit chez un chiot croisé est décrit. La mucinose et le prurit ne répondirent pas à l'antibiothérapie et à la corticothérapie et le chien fut finalement euthanasiéà la demande du propiétaire. Ce type de mucinose n'a jamais été décrit chez le chien à la connaissance de l'auteur.
Zusammenfassung— Ein Fall einer papulösen und plaque-ähnlichen oberflächlichen dermalen Muzinose mit Pruritus bei einem Mischlingswelpen wird beschrieban. Muzinose und Pruritus sprachen nicht auf die Behandlung mit Glucocorticoiden oder Antibiotika an, und der Hund wurde schließlích auf Wunsch des Besitzers euthanisiert. Diese Art der Muzinose wurde nach den Informationen des Autors beim Hund bislang nicht beschrieben.
Resumen  Se describe un caso de mucinosis dérmica superficial pruriginosa de tipo papular y con formación de pseudo placas en un cachorro mestizo. La mucinosis y el prurito no respondieron a la terapia con glucocorticoides ni a la terapia con antibiótico y el perro se eutanasió finalmente a petición de los propietarios. Este tipo de mucinosis no se había descrito previamente en el perro.     

The interpretation of electrocardiograms in small animals

Normal and a number of abnormal EGG patterns recorded from small animals are illustrated and described. Electrocardiography is a useful aid to diagnosis in small animal practice, but its limitations are emphasized.
Résumé. On décrit et on illustre des types normaux et un certain nombre de types anormaux d'E.C.G. chez de petits animaux. L'électrocardiographie apporte une aide utile au diagnostic dans la pratique de petits animaux, mais on souligne ses limitations.
Zusammenfassung. Normale und eine Reihe von abnormen EEG Abbildungen von Kleintieren aufgenommen, sind illustriert und beschrieben. Elektrokardiographie ist ein sehr nützliches Hilfsrpittel für Diagnose in der Kleintierpraxis, aber seine Begrenztheit wird betont.     

Eclampsia in the cat

A survey of eclampsia in the cat on the basis of a literature study is given and a case in which diagnosis was verified by blood mineral analysis, is described. A plasma calcium level of 6·6 mg/100 ml was found, as compared with the normal range in the non-lactating cat of 9–11 mg/100 ml.
Résumé. On fait un exposé d'une éclampsie chez le chat en se basant sur une étude des documentations et on décrit un cas dans lequel le diagnostic a été vérifié par une analyse minérale du sang. On a trouvé un taux de calcium du plasma de 6,6 mg/100 ml, en comparaison du taux normal de 9–11 mg/100 ml chez le chat qui n'allaitait pas.
Zusammenfassung. Eine Übersicht von Eklampsie in Katzen auf Grund einer Literaturstudie ist gegeben und ein Fall in dem die Diagnose durch Blutmineralanalyse bestätigt war, wird be-schreiben. Man fand einen Plasma Kalkspiegel von 6,6 mg/100 ml verglichen mit dem normalen Bereich in der nicht-säugenden Katee von 9–11 mg 100 ml.     

The diagnosis and successful treatment of Aspergillus fumigatus infection of the frontal sinuses and nasal chambers of the dog

Five cases of rhinitis and sinusitis in the dog are presented in which the invading organism was Aspergillus fumigatus . The diagnosis of the condition is described and the radiographic features emphasized. The surgical treatment, post-operative management and successful outcome of the five cases are reported.
Résumé. On présente cinq das de rhinite et de sinusite chez le chien, cas dans lesquels l'organ-isme était l'Aspergillus fumigatus. On décrit le diagnostic de la condition et on souligne les traits radiographiques caractéristiques. On rapporte le traitement chirurgique, la ligne de conduite postopératoire à suivre et la menée à bien des cinq cas.   Zusammenfassung.     

Complete atrio-ventricular block in the dog: a possible congenital case

A case of complete heart block in a dog is described. The fact that the dysrhythmia appeared to be congenital in origin and that it occurred in a breed in which congenital heart disease is unusual is emphasized. The therapeutic management of the case is described.
Résumé. On décrit un cas de bloc du cæur complet chez un chien. On insiste sur le fait que l'affection semblait être congénitale et qu'elle apparut chez un animal appartenant à une race dans laquelle les maladies congénitales du ceur sont inhabituelles. On décrit les mesures thérapeutiques employées chez le chien en question.
Zusammenfassung. Ein Fall von totalem Herzblock bei einem Hund wird beschrieben. Die Tatsache, dass die Dysrhythmie kongenitalen Ursprungs zu sein schien und bei einer Rasse auftrat, bei der kongenitale Herzkrankheit ungewöhnlich ist, wird hervorgehoben. Die Therapie in diesem Fall wird beschrieben.     

Congestive cardiac failure as a result of tuberculous pericarditis

A clinical case of tuberculous pericarditis in the dog is described. Necropsy indicated that the disease was widely disseminated throughout the body of the dog including kidney and lung. This animal therefore constituted a public health risk.
Résumé. On décrit un cas clinique de péricardite tuberculeuse chez le chien. L'autopsie a révélé que la maladie s'était fortemente répandue dans le corps du chien et avait atteint les reins et les poumons. Par conséquent, cet animal menaçait la santé publique.
Zusammenfassung. Ein klinischer Fall von tuberkulöser Pericarditis beim Hund wird beschrieben. Die Nekropsie zeigte, dass sich die Krankheit weit im Körper des Hundes, auch in der Niere und Lunge, verbreitet hatte. Dieses Tier stellte deshalb ein öffentliches Gesundheitsrisiko dar.

Calcific annuli in the aorta of a dog

This report describes a case with calcific annuli in the aorta, together with severe mitral insufficiency of the heart as well as myocarditis and bronchitis. Physical, radiographic, electrocardiographic, biochemical and haematological features are reported. The incidence of calcification of the cardiovascular system, the site and nature of the calcific lesion and haeniodynamic correlates with the combination of coarctation of the aorta and mitral insufficiency in man are discussed.

On rapporte un cas de calcifications annulaires de l'aorte, accompagnées d'insuffisance mitrale, de myocardite et de bronchite; on décrit les constatations d'ordre physique, radiologique, électrocardiographique, biochimique et hématologique. On discute la fréquence des calcifications du système cardiovasculaire, leur siège, leur nature, leurs implications hémodynamiques et les rapports qui existent entre elles et l'association du rétrécissement aortique et l'insuffisance mitrale dans l'espèce humaine.

Gas gangrene in the dog

Three cases of gas gangrene in the dog are described. Symptoms followed fracture of a femur in two cases and amputation of a hindlimb in the third. Clostridium welchii was isolated in each case. Two animals recovered following drainage of the lesion together with local and parenteral administration of the appropriate antibiotics.
Résumé. On décrit trois cas de gangrène gazeuse chez le chien. Des symptômes ont suivi une fracture du fémur dans deux cas et une amputation dans le troisième. On a isolé un Clostridium welchii dans chaque cas. Deux animaux se sont rétablis après drainage de la lésion avec à la fois une administration locale et parentérale des antibiotiques appropriés.
Zusammenfassung. Drei Fälle von Gasgangrän in Hunden sind beschrieben. In zwei Fällen folgten Symptome einer Oberschenkelfraktur und in einem dritten Fall einer Amputation. Clostridium welchii wurde in jedem Fall isoliert. Zwei Tiere erholten sich nach Dränage der Läsion kombiniert mit örtlicher und parenteraler Verabreichung der entsprechenden Antibiotika.
