In nature management, the introduction of large herbivores into human-influenced grasslands is thought to be effective to maintain or enhance plant diversity. In order to test the validity of this assumption, we studied the effect of grazing by large herbivores on plant species richness and community heterogeneity across a soil acidity gradient at different spatial scales in dry coastal dune grasslands in western Belgium and north-western France. The effect of grazing on plant richness varied with scale and soil acidity. Grazing had a predominantly positive effect on plant species richness in all habitats at the small scale (0.25 × 0.25 m). However, at site scale (8 × 8 m) it had only positive effects in grasslands with higher soil pH (6-7.4). Similarly, grazing resulted in a homogenization of grassland vegetation at lower pH, while heterogeneity increased with grazing on soil with higher pH. In general, grazing increased the number of rare species, independent of soil pH. The results confirm that the impact of grazing on plant diversity depends on the scale considered and that the effects further depend on soil acidity which was correlated to biomass production at the given soil pH range in this study. Although grazing seems an appropriate management tool to maintain and even enhance plant biodiversity under many circumstances, it may negatively affect plant species richness, where soil resources limit plant biomass production.  相似文献

黄河三角洲自然保护区植被与土壤C、N、P化学计量特征   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1  
为阐明黄河三角洲自然保护区生态系统的元素含量水平和化学计量特征并判断该区域植被生长的限制因子,选择保护区5种典型植物群落翅碱蓬、碱蓬、芦苇、柽柳和白茅为研究对象,测定植物不同器官和土壤剖面中有机碳、全氮、全磷含量,分析保护区植物群落与土壤的C、N、P化学计量特征。结果显示:5种群落中典型植物各器官C和P含量规律大体一致,除白茅和柽柳外,均表现为叶根茎,白茅茎的C和P含量高于根。不同植物器官N含量则表现出一致的变化规律,均为叶茎根。各植被类型叶片N∶P值均小于12,且与根系的N∶P值接近。土壤C、N含量的平均值分别为4.78 g?kg~(-1)、0.32 g?kg~(-1),均低于全国水平。P含量的平均值为0.53 g?kg~(-1),略低于全国水平。不同土层之间土壤元素含量差异不显著。不同群落土壤C∶N∶P值不同,同一群落不同土层的土壤C∶N∶P值变异性较小。植物叶片C、N、P含量以及C∶N、C∶P与0~10 cm、10~20 cm、20~40 cm土层土壤C、N含量之间均存在显著的相关关系(P0.05)。以上结果表明,黄河三角洲自然保护区不同土层土壤C、N、P含量相对稳定,总体低于全国水平,土壤N的匮乏引起了C∶N和C∶P值的变化。植物叶片和根系的C∶P值接近,说明生态系统元素循环相对稳定,同时叶片N∶P值小于12,进一步说明土壤中N的匮乏使其成为植物生长的限制因子。  相似文献

In both managed and natural ecosystems, beneficial plant-associated bacteria play a key role in supporting and/or increasing plant health and growth. Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) can be applied in agricultural production or for the phytoremediation of pollutants. However, because of their capacity to confer plant beneficial effects, efficient colonization of the plant environment is of utmost importance. The majority of plant-associated bacteria derives from the soil environment. They may migrate to the rhizosphere and subsequently the rhizoplane of their hosts before they are able to show beneficial effects. Some rhizoplane colonizing bacteria can also penetrate plant roots, and some strains may move to aerial plant parts, with a decreasing bacterial density in comparison to rhizosphere or root colonizing populations. A better understanding on colonization processes has been obtained mostly by microscopic visualisation as well as by analysing the characteristics of mutants carrying disfunctional genes potentially involved in colonization. In this review we describe the individual steps of plant colonization and survey the known mechanisms responsible for rhizosphere and endophytic competence. The understanding of colonization processes is important to better predict how bacteria interact with plants and whether they are likely to establish themselves in the plant environment after field application as biofertilisers or biocontrol agents.  相似文献

非耕作生境是农业景观中的重要组成部分,为生物提供食物和栖息地,对生物多样性保护具有重要意义。本文以辽宁省昌图县为例,选取了20个非耕作生境比例为0~50%的网格(1 km?1 km)为样区,采用典型样地法对调查区域内农业景观中的林地、田间路、草地、沟渠、果园5类主要非耕作生境中的植物群落进行调查,探讨不同非耕作生境类型和比例中植物多样性及其与景观异质性之间的关系。研究结果表明,随着非耕作生境比例增加,植物物种多样性和均匀度先增加后减小,在20%~30%时达到峰值;非耕作生境比例在0~40%范围内时,植物物种丰富度同样呈现先增加后减小,且在20%~30%时达到峰值;非耕作生境比例高于40%时,植物物种丰富度再次出现峰值且高于20%~30%。随着非耕作生境比例的增加,农业景观香浓多样性、香浓均匀度指数和景观斑块形状复杂程度逐渐增加,蔓延度恰好相反。不同生境中重要值最高的均为禾本科植物,但植物种不同;优势种优势度为果园沟渠草地田间路林地。果园、草地和沟渠的物种多样性和均匀度指数显著高于林地和田间路,丰富度指数为草地林地沟渠果园田间路,且草地、果园和田间路的不同调查区域间植物群落指数存在较大的变异性。草地、果园、沟渠、田间路和林地中景观异质性与物种多样性相关性顺次降低。研究结论表明,东北平原典型玉米种植区农业景观中,最适宜非耕作生境比例为20%~30%;非耕作生境中林地、沟渠对物种多样性维持、湿生植物多样性保护具有积极作用;不同生境干扰类型和方式不同,景观异质性与植物物种多样性相关性程度也不同。在今后农业景观生物多样性保护中应综合考虑非耕作生境的类型和比例,干扰的类型和方式等多种因素对生物多样性、生态服务及农业产量的影响。  相似文献

This review mainly discusses three related topics: the application of ecological theories to soil, the measurement of microbial diversity by molecular techniques and the impact of transgenic plants and microorganisms on genetic diversity of soil. These topics were debated at the Meeting on Soil Emergency held in Erice (Trapani, Italy) in 2001 for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Italian Society of Soil Science. Ecological theories have been developed by studying aboveground ecosystems but have neglected the belowground systems, despite the importance of the latter to the global nutrient cycling and to the presence of life on the Earth. Microbial diversity within the soil is crucial to many functions but it has been difficult in the past to determine the major components. Traditional methods of analysis are useful but with the use of molecular methods it is now possible to detect both culturable and unculturable microbial species. Despite these advances, the link between microbial diversity and soil functions is still a major challenge. Generally studies on genetically modified bacteria have not addressed directly the issue of microbial diversity, being mainly focused on their persistence in the environment, colonization ability in the rhizosphere, and survival. Concerns have been raised that transgenic plants might affect microbial communities in addition to environmental factors related to agricultural practice, season, field site and year. Transgenic plant DNA originating from senescent or degraded plant material or pollen has been shown to persist in soil. Horizontal transfer of transgenic plant DNA to bacteria has been shown by the restoration of deleted antibiotic resistance genes under laboratory in filter transformations, in sterile soil or in planta. However, the transformation frequencies under field conditions are supposed to be very low. It is important to underline that the public debate about antibiotic resistant genes in transgenic plants should not divert the attention from the real causes of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, such as the continued abuse and overuse of antibiotics prescribed by physicians and in animal husbandry.  相似文献

Natural areas are becoming increasingly fragmented and embedded in an urban matrix. Natural and semi-natural areas at the urban/wildland interface are threatened by a variety of ‘edge effects’, and are especially vulnerable to invasion by introduced plants, with suburban gardens acting as significant sources of alien propagules. Urban/wildland interfaces also provide access for humans, leading to various types of disturbance. Alien plant invasions are one of the biggest threats facing remaining natural areas on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa. The area provides an ideal opportunity to study the dynamics of invasions at the urban/wildland interface, since the largest natural area, the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP), is surrounded by the city of Cape Town. We explored invasion patterns in Newlands Forest (a small section of the TMNP) and detailed the roles of habitat features and distance from putative source populations in three main habitat types: natural Afromontane forest, riverine woodland habitats, and plantations of exotic pines (Pinus radiata and P. pinaster). We also examined the role of disturbance in driving invasions in two of these habitat types (Afromontane forest and pine plantations). We hypothesized that alien richness and alien stem density would decrease with distance from the urban/wildland interface, and that alien richness and alien stem density would increase with increasing levels of human disturbance.Distance from putative source populations and levels of anthropogenic disturbance influenced alien richness in Newlands Forest but not alien stem density. Alien richness decreased significantly with distance from presumed sources in the pine habitat, and increased significantly with disturbance in the forest habitat. Percentage overstorey cover and soil pH were important environmental variables associated with alien plant species. A socio-economic approach is discussed as being the most effective approach to the management and prevention of alien plant species in Newlands Forest.  相似文献

Presence of higher plant species was recorded in 1455 permanently marked quadrats located across Britain in 1978, 1990 and 1998 in a stratified, random sample of 259 1 km squares. Significant increases and decreases in frequency of each species were summarised as changes in the representation of simple traits, each of which had an established relationship with varying levels of fertility or disturbance. By testing the null hypothesis that the trait values represented among increasing or decreasing species were a random draw from the 1978 species pool, we determined the consistency of botanical change with changes in land-use in different vegetation types and landscape locations across Britain.Overall, 63% of significant changes in species occupancy were decreases and 37% increases. Trait changes were largely consistent with the impact of increased nutrient availability across vegetation types associated with inherently low fertility, such as infertile grassland, heath, bog and moorland. Linear habitats in lowland Britain saw trait changes consistent with secondary succession. Although trait changes were highly consistent with eutrophication in upland vegetation, the identity of the changing species left open the possibility that increased N deposition, sheep grazing intensity and local improvement could all have played a part.Recent changes in common plant species across Britain suggest that objectives for large-scale restoration and maintenance of plant communities must address four problems: (a) the increasing scarcity of stress-tolerant species in lowland species pools, (b) exploitation and maintenance of species populations on habitat fragments and linear features in the lowlands, (c) the spread and persistence of generalist species in upland Britain, (d) systemic nutrient enrichment in both lowland and upland environments.  相似文献

The interactions of genetically modified (GM) crops with soil species and ecosystems is complex, requiring both specific and broad spectrum assessments. In the ECOGEN project we undertook experiments at three scales of increasing complexity, using Bt maize expressing the Cry1Ab protein from Bacillus thuringiensis as an example. Test species were selected for laboratory-scale experiments to represent taxonomic groups that we could also monitor at glasshouse and field scales (e.g., nematodes, protozoa, micro-arthropods, earthworms, and snails). In the laboratory, single species were exposed to purified Cry1Ab protein or to Bt maize leaf powder incorporated into simplified diets under controlled conditions. In the glasshouse, multiple test species and soil microbial communities taken from ECOGEN's field sites were exposed to Bt maize plants growing under glasshouse or mesocosm conditions. In the field, evaluations were conducted on our selected indicator groups over multiple sites and growing seasons. Field evaluation included assessment of effects due to the local environment, crop type, seasonal variation and conventional crop management practice (tillage and pesticide use), which cannot be assessed in the glasshouse. No direct effects of Cry1Ab protein or Bt leaf residues were detected on our laboratory test organisms, but some significant effects were detected in the glasshouse. Total nematode and protozoan numbers increased in field soil under Bt maize relative to conventional maize, whilst microbial community structure and activity were unaffected. Field results for the abundance of nematodes and protozoa showed some negative effects of Bt maize, thus contradicting the glasshouse results. However, these negative results were specific to particular field sites and sampling times and therefore were transient. Taking the overall variation found in maize ecosystems at different sites into account, any negative effects of Bt maize at field scale were judged to be indirect and no greater than the impacts of crop type, tillage and pesticide use. Although the ECOGEN results were not predictive between the three experimental scales, we propose that they have value when used with feedback loops between the scales. This holistic approach can used to address questions raised by results from any level of experimentation and also for putting GM crop risk:benefit into context with current agricultural practices in regionally differing agro-ecosystems.  相似文献

Abstract

Monochasma savatieri Franch. ex Maxim is a perennial, parasitic herb used in traditional Chinese medicine and its wild resources have declined sharply in recent years. For a long time, the research on fertilization of parasitic plants mostly focused on parasitic weeds. Despite its urgent need, there are few studies discussing the nutrient requirements of medicinal threatened parasitic plants. In this study, we investigated the growth response of M. savatieri to inorganic solutes. By using an orthogonal design in pot cultivation, the effects of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium on growth traits, haustoria formation, and biomass of M. savatieri were determined under greenhouse conditions. The results showed that M. savatieri had a rather significant growth response to different nutrients supplied. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium significantly influenced growth traits, haustoria formation, and biomass of M. savatieri, but differ in the degree. M. savatieri experienced a more significant increase in nitrogen sufficient than phosphorus or potassium sufficient in terms of seedling height (SH), maximum root length, and biomass. There were significant positive correlations between tested parameters. The regression equation for SH, total leaf length, and number of haustoria both showed relatively high R2 values and could be sensitive available indicators. In the absence of hosts and haustoria-inducing factors, M. savatieri was capable of haustoria formation and autotrophic growth for a period of time. We concluded that M. savatieri had a certain demand for inorganic nutrients. The appropriate supply of inorganic nutrients promoted growth and development of M. savatieri.  相似文献

Flooded paddy fields are the major anthropogenic sources of methane (CH4) emission, and organic materials of rice plant origin were estimated to be important as its source. This study used rice (Oryza sativa L. cv, Yukihikari) callus cells as a model material for slough-off root cap cells, and carbon-13 (13C)-labelled callus cells were subjected to decomposition in aerobic and anaerobic soil microcosms for 56 days. DNA was extracted from a soil incubated with carbon-12 (12C)- and 13C-callus cells and subjected to buoyant density gradient centrifugation to identify methanogenic archaeal species that assimilated carbon from the callus cells. 13C-labelled 16S rRNA gene (16S rDNA) fragments from methanogenic archaea were not polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplified in heavy fractions under aerobic soil conditions, while they were successfully done from day 3 onwards under anaerobic soil conditions. Eighty-four denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) bands in heavy fractions were sequenced, revealing that they were members of Methanosarcina spp. (20 clones), Methanosaeta spp. (18 clones), Methanocella spp. (25 clones), Methanomicrobiales (10 clones), Methanobacterium spp. (7 clones) and Cluster ZC-I (2 clones). They included hydrogenotrophic and acetoclastic methanogens and were phylogenetically different from those residing in rice roots and, presumably, from those assimilating root exudate and mucilage-derived carbon. This study indicates that carbon of slough-off root cap cells propagates specific methanogenic species in rice rhizosphere under anaerobic soil conditions and thus augments the diversity of the total rhizospheric methanogenic community.  相似文献
