Over three consecutive years, 180 (60/yr) fall-born steer calves were weaned in May (average initial BW = 238 kg, SD = 36.2 kg) and allocated to one of three groups: 1) calf-fed steers that entered the feedlot at weaning; 2) short yearlings that grazed irrigated pasture for another 4 mo and entered the feedlot in September; and 3) long yearlings that grazed with short yearlings during the summer, remained on annual California foothills range through the fall, winter, and spring, and entered the feedlot the following May. All steers were fed until the average group backfat (BF), determined by ultrasound, reached 11 to 12 mm. On pasture, short- and long-yearling steers gained weight in the summer; long yearlings then slightly lost weight in the fall and winter, and then gained weight again the following spring. Average days in the feedlot were 188, 158, and 94 (P < 0.10) for calves, short yearlings, and long yearlings, respectively. Feedlot DMI increased with age (and weight) at feedlot entry, with no difference among groups in gain:feed ratio. The gain of BF was nil on pasture, even when animals were gaining weight, and then increased rapidly when animals were placed on a high-energy diet. Final body weights were heaviest (P < 0.10) in long yearlings, followed by short yearlings and then calves, indicating that a prolonged growing period increases the apparent mature size of the animal. Moreover, total carcass fat contents and percentage of Choice or above were all lower (P < 0.10) in cattle that were older at feedlot entry (i.e., long yearlings) compared with the other groups. In conclusion, increasing the backgrounding period decreased time and total concentrate requirements in the feedlot of Angus-Hereford steers. Older cattle reached 10 mm of BF at heavier weights. Grazing animals gained weight without increasing BF; however, BF increased rapidly in the feedlot. Prolonged grazing may decrease quality grade, either by impairing the ability of the animal to deposit intramuscular fat or by decreasing the time during which dietary energy supply is adequate for intramuscular fat deposition to occur.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to characterize feed efficiency traits and to examine phenotypic correlations between performance and feeding behavior traits, and ultrasound measurements of carcass composition in growing bulls. Individual DMI and feeding behavior traits were measured in Angus bulls (n=341; initial BW=371.1+/-50.8 kg) fed a corn silage-based diet (ME=2.77 Mcal/kg of DM) for 84 d in trials 1 and 2 and for 70 d in trials 3 and 4 by using a GrowSafe feeding system. Meal duration (min/d) and meal frequency (events/d) were calculated for each bull from feeding behavior recorded by the GrowSafe system. Ultrasound measures of carcass 12th-rib fat thickness (BF) and LM area (LMA) were obtained at the start and end of each trial. Residual feed intake (RFIp) was computed from the linear regression of DMI on ADG and midtest BW(0.75) (metabolic BW, MBW), with trial, trial by ADG, and trial by midtest BW(0.75) as random effects (base model). Overall ADG, DMI, and RFIp were 1.44 (SD=0.29), 9.46 (SD=1.31), and 0.00 (SD=0.78) kg/d, respectively. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that inclusion of BW gain in BF and LMA in the base model increased R(2) (0.76 vs. 0.78) and accounted for 9% of the variation in DMI not explained by MBW and ADG (RFIp). Residual feed intake and carcass-adjusted residual feed intake (RFIc) were moderately correlated with DMI (0.60 and 0.55, respectively) and feed conversion ratio (FCR; 0.49 and 0.45, respectively), and strongly correlated with partial efficiency of growth (PEG; -0.84 and -0.78, respectively), but not with ADG or MBW. Gain in BF was weakly correlated with RFIp (0.30), FCR (-0.15), and PEG (-0.11), but not with RFIc. Gain in LMA was weakly correlated with RFIp (0.17) and FCR (-0.19), but not with PEG or RFIc. The Spearman rank correlation between RFIp and RFIc was high (0.91). Meal duration (0.41), head-down duration (0.38), and meal frequency (0.26) were correlated with RFIp and accounted for 35% of the variation in DMI not explained by MBW, ADG, and ultrasound traits (RFIc). These results suggest that adjusting residual feed intake for carcass composition will facilitate selection to reduce feed intake in cattle without affecting rate or composition of gain.  相似文献

The purpose was to investigate the use of dried cashew pulp (DrCP), the sun-dried residue after juice has been extracted from the cashew apple, as a feed ingredient in growing pig diets. The growth rate, feed intake, feed to gain ratio and cost of gain of grower pigs fed diets containing 0 (0DrCP), 100 (100DrCP), 150 (150DrCP) or 200 (200DrCP) g kg−1 of dried cashew pulp was investigated in a feeding trial set up as a Completely randomized design with 4 treatments replicated 3 times and lasting 112 days. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) among treatments in the parameters measured. It was concluded that dried cashew pulp could be used in growing pig diets up to a level of 200 g kg−1 without any deleterious effects. Future work will look at higher levels of DrCP inclusion in the diets of growing pigs.  相似文献

The effects of a higher concentrate feed during the raising period on the growth and carcass of Japanese Black cattle being fattened at a younger age were investigated using three pairs of artificially bred identical twins and three pairs of full‐sibs. The animals were fed the concentrate at 2.4%/day (2.4% group) and 1.2%/day (1.2% group) comparative bodyweight (BW) during the raising period. The BW and subcutaneous fat thickness were measured every month using ultrasonic equipment. The animals were slaughtered at the age of 24 months. The BW of the 2.4% group from the age of 6–10 months appeared to be higher than that of the 1.2% group (P < 0.1). The subcutaneous fat of the 2.4% group from the age of 7–11 months was thicker than that of the 1.2% group (P < 0.1). After those ages, the BW and subcutaneous fat of the two groups did not differ and there was no difference in the carcass characteristics between the two groups. Using a higher concentrate feed during the raising period for younger fattening of Japanese Black cattle influenced growth from the late half of the raising period to the early part of the fattening period.  相似文献

Meat-type (Boer x Spanish and Spanish) goats from two feeding regimens (feedlot and range) were slaughtered and live and carcass weights were obtained. At 24 h after death, various yield and quality measurements were collected. One side from each carcass was fabricated into major wholesale cuts for dissection into major carcass components. Feedlot goats had heavier (P<.05) live and carcass weights and carcasses that yielded more (P<.05) dissectible fat and lean and less (P<.05) bone, as a percentage of carcass weight, than did the carcasses of range goats. In the feedlot environment, Boer x Spanish goats had greater (P<.05) live weights, carcass weights, actual and adjusted fat thicknesses, carcass conformation scores, and leg circumference scores than did Spanish goats of similar age. The only breed-type differences that were significant after adjusting for live weight using analysis of covariance were that Boer x Spanish goats in the feedlot treatment had greater (P<.05) actual and adjusted fat thickness and carcass conformation than Spanish goats on the feedlot treatment. The Boer x Spanish goat carcass trait advantage could mainly be attributed to their larger size and enhanced capacity for growth.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

1. An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of ambient temperature on growth performance and carcass traits in male growing Pekin ducks from 14 to 42 d of age in order to establish their optimal temperature requirements.

2. A total of 216 14 d old male White Pekin ducks were allocated randomly to six environmentally controlled chambers with ambient temperature set at 20°C, 22°C, 24°C, 26°C, 28°C, and 30°C from 14 to 42 d of age, respectively.

3. As ambient temperature increased from 20°C to 30°C, the body weight and weight gain decreased linearly or quadratically (P < 0.05) and was accompanied by linearly decreasing feed intake (P < 0.05). According to broken-line regression, the upper critical level of ambient temperature during the growing period for body weight, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio were 27.4°C, 27.4°C, and 26.0°C, respectively.

4. The weight of breast meat, leg meat, and abdominal fat decreased linearly or quadratically as ambient temperature increased and declined to a minimum when the temperature increased to 30°C (P < 0.05). The percentage of breast meat and abdominal fat showed a linear or quadratic decreasing response to increasing temperature, but leg meat percentage increased as temperature increased and reached maximum at 30°C (P < 0.05). According to broken-line regression, the upper critical ambient temperatures during the growing period for breast meat weight and percentage were 25.5°C and 25.6°C, respectively.

It was concluded that both growth performance and breast meat of growing ducks were sensitive to increasing ambient temperature and this should be kept below the upper critical temperature during the growing period in order to optimise growth performance and carcass traits at market age.  相似文献

A total of 315 crossbred females (gilts) ranging in weight from 14 to 68 kg was split between pole-type and a closed piggery (cold and moderate environments, respectively One third of the pigs in each piggery was fed a growing ration ad libitum, the remaining pigs were restrictively fed 80% of the amount consumed by the first group. Data on ultrasonic backfat probe, estimated market index, and age were taken on the pigs at 90 kg live weight. Results indicated that the effect of environmental temperature was very small on backfat thickness and carcass index, but was significant on age. The pigs fed ad libitum had 10.2% thicker backfat, were 4 points inferior in index, but were 13 days younger at 90 kg (P < 0.01) than those restrictively fed. When the gilts exhibited their first oestrus after 90 kg live weight, half of the pigs restrictively fed were flushed by feeding them ad libitum for one oestrus cycle. All gilts were bred at the second oestrus. The gilts raised in a cold environment were 4 kg lighter, farrowed litters 0.2 larger and 0.5 kg heavier than those raised in the moderate environment. Gilts restrictively fed, then flushed gained 3 kg on flushing and farrowed litters averaging 10.7 pigs, 0.2 and 0.8 pigs larger than those of the gilts fed ad libitum and not flushed respectively. Significant differences between crosses were observed in all the traits studied except gestation length and litter size. There was little effect on the different traits of the initial weight at which the gilts were exposed to the treatment.  相似文献

To study the effect of increasing levels of wheat pollard as a replacement for wheat bran on growth and carcass characteristics of growing pigs, 64 crossbred (Landrace?×?Large white Yorkshire) pigs were fed with diets in which wheat pollard was added back to wheat bran in ratios of 15, 30, 45 and 60 %. The pigs were divided into groups of four, balanced for sex, ancestry and body weight. They were then allotted to the dietary treatments in a completely randomised design with four replications. The trial lasted 4 months and data were collected on feed intake and weight gain. A digestibility trial was carried out on eight male pigs per treatment during the growth period. At the end of the growth period, two pigs per replicate in each treatment (n?=?32) were slaughtered for determination of carcass characteristics. There were significant differences in the rate of gain and efficiency of feed utilisation among treatments. Diet significantly affected weights of the liver, lungs and small intestine (P?<?0.05). The availability of nutrients was not a limiting factor for the growing pigs and that substituting wheat bran by wheat pollard at 60 % improved the pig’s average daily gain and feed efficiency.  相似文献

1. Palm kernel meal (PKM), brewers dried grains (BDG) and maize offal (MO) were included in broiler diets, each at 100, 150 or 200 g/kg; the diets were fed up to 35 d of age. 2. Overall food intake and weight gain decreased in the order BDG, PKM and MO. There were, however, significant interactions between the test ingredients and dietary concentrations in all the growth responses. Food intakes increased with the dietary concentrations of each test ingredient, but the increase was greater for BDG than PKM or MO. For weight gain, at 100 g/kg, the final body weights of the chicks fed on the diets with BDG and MO were similar, and those of chicks fed on the diet with PKM slightly lower. However, at 200 g/kg, growth rate of chicks fed on the BDG and PKM diets were similar while those of chicks fed on the MO diet was 7% lower. Efficiency of food utilisation was similar at 100 g/kg for all the ingredients and decreased as their concentrations increased; however, the decrease was considerably less for the PKM than for the MO and BDG diets. 3. Broilers fed on the BDG-based diets voided most excreta followed by those fed on the PKM and MO diets; excreta water content was highest from birds fed on the MO diets followed by the PKM and BDG diets. Apparent retention of dry matter was similar with all the test ingredients, but it decreased only significantly at 200 g/kg dietary concentration. The rate of passage was faster with the PKM diets followed by the MO and BDG diets; it was increased at 200 g/kg dietary concentration of the test ingredients.  相似文献

应用传统形态生物学的分析框架,选取云南鹅为研究对象,设计黑麦草(Lolium multiflorum)组、菊苣(Cichorium intybus)组、象草(Pennisetum purpureum)组3种热带牧草基础日粮,采用配合饲料为对照,分析这3种热带牧草对云南白鹅生长的影响。研究结果显示,1)4种不同日粮饲喂的云南鹅在体质发育、胸部相对发育、胸肌发育和脚的相对发育上水平相当,但饲喂象草、菊苣和配合饲料较饲喂黑麦草日粮条件下云南鹅背部发育更好,且饲喂象草的效果最为明显;2)在试验期内,饲喂云南鹅黑麦草和菊苣能取得与配合饲料相似的日增重和料重比,且日增重均高于饲喂象草组和配合饲料组,料重比均低于饲喂象草组;3)饲喂4种不同日粮对云南鹅平均体质量累积均呈现“快-慢-快”的生长模式,而对日增重的影响主要集中在约75日龄以前,75日龄后云南鹅的生长不受这4种不同日粮的影响,用黑麦草饲喂30~50日龄云南鹅可有效提高云南鹅平均日增重; 4)就生产效益的比较而言,黑麦草和菊苣均适宜在云南鹅的养殖中使用,且黑麦草对30~50日龄云南鹅的平均日增重具有特殊作用,而象草不适宜在云南鹅的饲养中单独饲用。  相似文献

The effects of three finishing systems on carcass composition and other characteristics of meat were studied in 15 young Eastern Anatolian Red bulls in Eastern Turkey. For 93?days, five bulls grazed pasture (P), five grazed the same pasture and were given concentrate supplementation (P + C), and five grazed the same pasture for 93?days, and then for an additional 40?days, they received concentrate in a barn (PF). 通过随机区组试验,研究了不施氮(N0)、施氮51.75kg/hm2(N1)和103.5kg/hm2(N2)3个氮水平对"甘农3号"紫花苜蓿生长第1年及第2年产量和再生性能的影响。结果表明:"甘农3号"紫花苜蓿生长第2年产量显著高于第1年,在N2处理下两年干草产量均最高,第1年为14 717kg/hm2,第2年为31 092kg/hm2;从株高和再生速度看,两年均以处理N2下紫花苜蓿的再生性能最强,并且第2年的明显优于第1年。综上,试验区"甘农3号"紫花苜蓿在N2处理下再生性能最好,株高和产量达最高,且两年均能进行4次刈割。  相似文献

文章旨在研究育肥期肉牛日粮中添加不同水平的青贮艾草对生长性能、胴体品质及肌肉脂肪酸组成的影响。试验选择15月龄平均体重为(326±22)kg的肉牛24头,随机分为4组,每组6个重复,每个重复1头牛。试验分为育肥前期和育肥后期两个阶段,对照组饲喂基础日粮+水稻秸秆,试验组在基础日粮中分别补充5%、10%和15%的青贮艾草,两个阶段精料补充料干物质、粗蛋白质、粗脂肪、中性洗涤纤维、酸性洗涤纤维、脂肪酸组成及主要脂肪酸含量相近。结果 :精料摄入量随日粮青贮艾草添加水平的升高表现为显著二次曲线效应(P <0.05);随着日粮艾草添加水平的升高,肉牛末重和平均日增重表现为显著二次曲线效应(P <0.05),而料比线性降低(P <0.05)。牛的屠体重、眼肌面积和大理石纹评分随日粮青贮艾草添加水平的升高表现为显著二次曲线效应(P <0.05),而背膘厚度表现为显著二次曲线降低(P <0.05)。眼肌C18:0、C18:1和单不饱和脂肪酸含量显著线性降低(P <0.05),亚麻油酸、C18:3、C20:4、C22:0和C24:1脂肪酸含量显著线性降低(P <0.05),多不饱和脂肪酸和多不饱和脂肪酸与饱和脂肪酸比值表现为显著二次曲线增加(P <0.05)。结论 :日粮青贮艾草添加水平对肉牛生长性能、肌肉脂肪酸含量的影响表现为二次曲线效应,但高水平青贮艾草降低了肉牛生长性能、屠宰性能及肉品质。肉牛育肥期日粮中适宜的青贮艾草添加水平为10%。  相似文献

The present experiment tested a dietary supplementation with linseed oil and selenium to growing rabbits. The basal diet (B) contained 3% sunflower oil, while it was substituted with 3% linseed oil in the experimental feed (S). The selenium (Se) content of the two diets was 0.10 vs. 0.46 mg/kg. Rabbits were fed with B diet from the age of 18 days. One group was fed with the B diet until 11 weeks of age (group B), whereas the experimental groups were fed with S diet for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks (groups S1, S2, S3 and S4, respectively), before slaughtering (11 weeks of age). Live performance and carcass traits of rabbits, fatty acid (FA) profile and selenium content of their hind leg (HL) and Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) meat were considered in this study. In addition, the effect of two different cooking methods on the nutritional value of the enriched HL meat was also assessed. The tested dietary supplementation only minimally affected the live performance and carcass traits of rabbits. The S supplementation significantly reduced the Σ n‐6 FA and increased the Σ n‐3 FA of the HL meat and LTL meat, compared to the B diet (p < 0.001); thus, n‐6/n‐3 ratio was improved (p < 0.001). In addition, HL meat and LTL meat of S fed rabbits were significantly enriched in Se reaching a twofold increase in both meat cuts (p < 0.01). Therefore, the S supplementation improved the functional value of the rabbit meat. The heat treatment affected cooking loss, Se and vitamin E contents as well as the oxidative status of the HL meat (p < 0.001), with the different cooking methods providing different results. In addition, even if the beneficial C20:5 n‐3 and C22:6 n‐3 decreased with cooking, the n‐6/n‐3 ratio remained unaffected.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of various Wagyu sires on carcass quality traits and palatability attributes of cooked ribeye steaks. Wagyu sires were used and grouped as Old (n = 6) or New (n = 2) sires, based on the chronological order in which they were imported into the United States. One hundred thirteen F1 heifer and steer calves sired by Wagyu bulls out of three different sources of cows were fed a backgrounding diet for 112 d consisting of an 80:20 ratio of roughage:concentrate then grazed on a mixture of orchardgrass and bluegrass pasture for 84 d and finished on a 10:90 ratio of roughage:concentrate diet for 231 d in a feedlot. Progeny from New sires had larger (P < .05) ribeye areas, higher (P < .05) marbling scores, and lower (P < .05) maturity scores than progeny from Old sires. Marbling was positively correlated (P < .05) to brightness (r = .56), texture (r = .60), and fat luster (r = .38). Progeny of New sires had lower shear force values (P < .05) than progeny of Old sires. These results indicate the superiority of New Wagyu sires to produce progeny with more marbling, lower shear force values, and larger ribeye areas than Old Wagyu sires. Furthermore, there are substantial differences between Wagyu sires for carcass quality traits and palatability attributes.  相似文献

Summary In Guyana 3 experiments were conducted using 1,440 chicks and 640 pullets and the same number of hens in a randomised block design to determine the growth rate, egg production, and egg fertility and hatchability of1/2 Creole ×1/2 Rhode Island Red (CR) and3/4 Rhode Island Red ×1/4 Creole (CRR) fowls compared with the parental strains of Creole (C) and Rhode Island Red (R) fowls. The growth rate of CR and CRR was higher than C, but lower (P<0·05) than R. Total egg production per hen housed during the pullet year was 59.5, 106.8, 130.7 and 171.8 for C, CR, CRR and R respectively and they were all significantly (P<0·05) different. There were no significant (P>0·05) differences between the 4 strains for fertility and hatchability percentages of the eggs which averaged 87.8 and 88.9 respectively. The level of production was comparatively high and mortality low enough for the crossbreds to be recommended for smallholder poultry development, although the feed cost of production would be higher for CRR than for CR.

Resumen Se condujeron tres experimentos en Guayana utilizando 1,440 pollitos, 640 pollonas e igual número de gallinas, en un diseño de bloques al azar, para determinar tasa de crecimiento, produccíon de huevos, fertilidad y tasa de nacimiento de 1/2 Creole × 1/2 Rhode Island Roja (CR) y 3/4 Rhode Island Roja × 1/4 Creole (CRR). Estos cruces fueron comparados con productos derivados de cepas paternas de Creole (C) y Rhode Island Roja (R). La tasa de crecimiento de CR y CRR fue más alta que aquella de C, pero más baja (P<0·05) que la de R. La producción total de huevos por pollona encasetada durante el año productivo fue 59·5, 106·8. 130·7 y 171·8 para C, CR, CRR y R respectivamente, siendo todas significativamente diferentes (P<0·05). No hubo diferencias significativas (P>0·05) entre las cuatro cepas, relacionadas con fertilidad y porcentaje de nacimientos de los huevos, los cuales promediaron 87·8 y 88·9, respectivamente. El nivel de producción fue comparativamente alto y la mortalidad suficientemente baja, para recomendar los cruces para el desarrollo avicola en fincas pequeñas, aunque el costo del alimento para producir, seria más alto para CRR que para CR.

Résumé En Guyane, au cours de 3 expériences 1 440 poussins et 640 poulettes ainsi que le même nombre de poules ont été répartis en blocs équilibrés afin de déterminer le taux de croissance, la production, la fertilité et l'éclosabilité des oeufs chez des poules 1/2 Creole × 1/2 Rhode Island Red (CR) et chez des poules 3/4 Rhode Island Red × 1/4 Creole (CRR) en comparaison avec les souches parentales des poules Creole (C) et des Rhode Island Red (R).La croissance des CR et des CRR etait supérieure aux C mais inférieure (P<0,05) aux R. La production totale annuelle d'oeufs par poule était de 59,5, 106,8, 130,7, et 171,8 pour les C, CR, CRR et R, tous différents de manière significative (P<0,05). Il n'y avait pas de différences significatives (P<0,05) entre les 4 souches concernant les pourcentages de fertilité et le taux d'éclosion des oeufs qui étaient respectivement de 87,8 et 88,9 p. 100.Compte tenu du taux de production relativement élevé et d'une mortalité assez faible, il est possible de recommander ce croisement pour le développement de la production avicole pour les exploitations bien que le cout alimentaire de cette production soit plus élevé pour les CRR que pour les CR.
