In the present study, acute phase proteins (APP) responses in pigs after infection with toxigenic strain of Pasteurella multocida (Pm) were evaluated. Twelve piglets from a herd free from toxigenic Pm were used. Six of them were infected intranasally with Pm. CRP, Hp, SAA and Pig-MAP concentrations were measured using commercial ELISA tests. CRP and Hp were significantly induced from 2 days post inoculation (dpi). The concentration of Hp in inoculated pigs remained elevated until the end of the study. The concentrations of SAA and Pig-MAP increased significantly from 3 dpi, and remained elevated to 5 or 7 dpi, respectively. Strong correlations were observed between concentration of Hp or SAA and changes in the lungs. No correlations were found between levels of APP in serum and changes observed in the turbinates. On the basis of our investigation, we cannot state that evaluation of APP concentrations in serum may provide useful information about severity of atrophic rhinitis. However, the concentration of all investigated APP increased after inoculation. Thus, APP-measurements may reveal ongoing infection. Monitoring of APP concentrations in the pig herds may help to pinpoint infected animals even before clinical signs are present. If found, these "APP-high" animals may be chosen next for pathogen-specific diagnostics. Early diagnosis and therapy may prevent the infection from spreading in the herd. Moreover, monitoring of APP concentrations in serum may be useful for selecting clinically healthy pigs before integration into an uninfected herd. Future studies should focus on the possibility of distinguishing infected and non-infected pigs under field conditions.  相似文献

In the present study acute phase proteins (APPs) responses in pigs after subclinical infection with H1N1 swine influenza virus (SwH1N1) were evaluated. Fourteen 5 weeks old, seronegative piglets, both sexes were used. Ten of them were infected intranasally with SwH1N1. C-reactive protein (CRP), haptoglobin (Hp), serum amyloid A (SAA) and pig major acute phase protein (Pig-MAP) concentrations in serum were measured using commercial ELISAs. No significant clinical signs were observed in any of the infected pigs, however, all infected animals developed specific antibodies against SwH1N1 and viral shedding was observed from 2 to 5dpi. Only concentrations of Hp and SAA were significantly induced after infection, with mean maximum levels from days 1 to 2 post infection (dpi). The concentrations of CRP and Pig-MAP remained generally unchanged, however in half of infected pigs the concentration of CRP tended to increase at 1dpi (but without statistical significance). The results of our study confirmed that monitoring of APPs may be useful for detection of subclinically infected pigs. The use of SAA or Hp and Pig-MAP may be a valuable in combination [i.e. Hp (increased concentration) and Pig-MAP (unchanged concentration)] to detect subclinically SIV infected pigs, or to identify pigs actually producing a large amount of virus. Additional studies need to be done in order to confirm these findings.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to validate commercially available methods for porcine haptoglobin (Hp), C-reactive protein (CRP), serum amyloid A (SAA) and major acute phase protein (Pig-MAP) determinations. Intra and inter assay coefficients of variation (CVs) were lower than 20% in all cases with exception of inter assay CVs for CRP and Pig-MAP assays with samples of low acute phase proteins concentration, and for SAA assay at any acute phase proteins concentration. All methods showed good linearity and detection limits were low enough to detect APPs levels in healthy animals. Hp and SAA were very affected by haemolysis. Lipaemia influenced mainly on SAA determination. Over 15-fold increase was observed in CRP and SAA concentrations after artificially induced inflammation by a single subcutaneous dose of turpentine, whereas Hp and Pig-MAP increased less than 5-fold.  相似文献

Pig-MAP (Major Acute-phase Protein) and haptoglobin concentrations were determined in pigs from commercial farms, and reference intervals obtained for different productive stages. Pig-MAP serum concentrations were lower in sows than in adult boars (mean values 0.81 vs. 1.23 mg/mL) and the opposite was observed for haptoglobin (1.47 vs. 0.94 mg/mL). No differences were found between parities, except for a minor decrease in haptoglobin concentration in the 4th parity. A linear correlation between pig-MAP and haptoglobin concentration was observed. In the period 4-12 weeks of life, pig-MAP mean concentrations were around 1mg/mL, being lower in the finishing period (0.7-0.8 mg/mL). Haptoglobin concentrations increased with time, from around 0.6 mg/mL at 4 weeks of age to 1.4 mg/mL at 12 weeks. Mean values of around 0.9 mg/mL were observed in the finishing period. A wider distribution of values was observed for haptoglobin than for pig-MAP concentrations. Differences between herds were observed, with the highest values obtained in a herd with signs of respiratory disease.  相似文献

C-reactive protein (CRP) and haptoglobin (Hp) are well-known acute phase proteins in the dog. Currently, a commercial ELISA and a colorimetric assay are the methods of choice for measuring CRP and Hp, respectively; however, these assays showed interference when using haemolysed, lipaemic or hyperbilirubinaemic samples. Recently, time-resolved immunofluorometric assays (TR-IFMAs) have been developed for measuring canine CRP and Hp. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of increasing concentrations of haemoglobin, lipids and bilirubin in CRP and Hp serum measurements using these new fluoroimmunoassays. Haemolysis was produced by freezing blood cells at -20 degrees C. The haemolysate was added to pooled sera at final concentrations of 0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 40 g/L. A commercial emulsion of triglycerides was added to homologous pooled sera at 0, 0.35, 0.7, 1.4, 2.8, 5.6 and 11.2 mmol/L. Bilirubin, initially dissolved in dimethyl sulphoxide, was added to pooled sera at 0, 64.2, 128.4, 256.8, 513.7 and 1027.4 micromol/L. Addition of fresh haemolysate, triglycerides or bilirubin to serum samples did not affect either CRP or Hp concentrations (P > or = 0.18), so the TR-IFMAs could be an alternative to the traditional tests for measuring canine CRP and Hp in those laboratories where immunofluorometric assays are available.  相似文献

Background: In veterinary medicine, there is increasing interest in measuring acute phase proteins as a tool in the diagnosis and monitoring of neoplastic diseases. Although mammary neoplasms are the most common type of cancer in dogs, acute phase proteins have not been extensively evaluated in dogs with mammary tumors. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate serum haptoglobin (Hp) and C‐reactive protein (CRP) concentrations in the dogs with mammary tumors and assess their potential association with malignancy. Methods: A retrospective study of dogs with mammary tumors was performed. Serum concentrations of CRP and Hp were determined in healthy control dogs (n=20) and dogs with mammary tumors before surgery (n=41). Mammary tumors were grouped as carcinomas (n=24), fibrosarcoma (n=1), malignant mixed tumors (n=7), benign mixed tumors (n=6), and adenomas (n=3). CRP and Hp concentrations were compared in dogs with different tumor types and were also compared based on tumor size, lymph node infiltration, skin ulceration, fixation to underlying tissue, and time between tumor identification and removal. Results: Hp concentration was significantly (P<.043) higher in dogs with mammary tumors (median 2.03 g/L, range 0.09–2.94 g/L) compared with controls (1.38 g/L, range 0.08–3.00 g/L), but the range of values overlapped considerably. CRP concentration was higher in dogs with carcinomas (4.70 mg/L, range 0.63–128.96 mg/L) vs controls (2.11 mg/L, range 0.25–6.57 mg/L) (P=.0008) and in dogs with ulcerated skin (14.8 mg/L, range 5.7–128.9 mg/L, n=3) compared with those without ulceration (2.4 mg/L, range 0.11–30.3 mg/L, n=38) (P=.048). Conclusions: Serum Hp and CRP do not appear to have value in diagnosing or predicting malignancy of mammary tumors in dogs. Higher CRP concentrations in dogs with mammary carcinoma suggest a role for inflammation in this tumor type.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the existence of lung lesions in pigs at slaughter and the concentration of the serum acute phase proteins (APP), haptoglobin (Hp), pig-major acute protein (Pig-MAP) and C-reactive protein (CRP). A total of 24 pig farms were selected out of a larger farm database previously screened to study risk factors associated with pleuritis and cranio-ventral pulmonary consolidation (CVPC) lesions at slaughter-aged pigs in Spain. The farms were classified as “pleuritis negative (P−) or positive (P+)” and as “CVPC negative (M−) or positive (M+)” and divided into four groups according to a 2X2 factorial design (P−M−, P−M+, P+M−, P+M+). Also at slaughter, blood from 20 randomly selected pigs from each farm was collected. Obtained serum samples were used to measure acute phase proteins. All APP concentrations were significantly higher for M+ farms than for M− ones. However, only Hp and Pig-MAP showed significantly higher concentrations for P+ farms than for P− ones. Pig-MAP was the most sensitive biomarker since it was able to clearly discriminate between P−/P+ and M−/M+ groups (p < 0.001 in both cases). Hp was an excellent marker for pleuritis and good for CVPC lesions. CRP was able to discriminate for CVPC lesions but not for pleuritis. The present results indicate that Pig-MAP and, possibly Hp, may be used as potential markers to characterise and discriminate respiratory lesions in swine herds at slaughter.  相似文献

Serum haptoglobin (Hp) concentrations were measured in swine that were naturally or experimentally infected with Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. In swine from a specific-pathogen-free herd, mean serum concentration of Hp (+/- SD) was 5.79 +/- 1.06 mg of cyanmethemoglobin-binding capacity (CHBC)/dl. Serum Hp concentrations in paired samples were measured at 7-day intervals in 40 swine randomly selected from a conventional herd that was experiencing an acute episode of pneumonia and deaths caused by A pleuropneumoniae serotype-5 infection. Day-0 and -7 serum Hp concentrations were 24.58 +/- 1.38 and 23.10 +/- 1.12 mg of CHBC/dl, respectively, with no significant difference between these measurements. In a second conventional herd with a history of chronic infection with A pleuropneumoniae serotype 5, serum concentrations of Hp measured in paired samples obtained 6 days apart were 12.36 +/- 0.81 and 18.63 +/- 0.76 mg of CHBC/dl, respectively, and were significantly (P < 0.05) different from each other. Twenty-nine 12-week-old conventional swine were challenged intranasally with A pleuropneumoniae serotype 1 (n = 19) and serotype 5 (n = 10). Serum Hp concentration increased from prechallenge concentrations of 7.49 +/- 1.38 and 15.10 +/- 1.22 mg of CHBC/dl, respectively, to 41.01 +/- 1.35 and 22.37 +/- 1.78 mg of CHBC/dl, respectively, 72 hours after challenge. For these 29 swine, serum Hp concentration was positively correlated with rectal temperature (r = 0.34; P < 0.001) during the immediate postchallenge period.  相似文献

Background: It is known that quantification of bovine acute‐phase proteins could routinely provide early diagnostic and prognostic information for monitoring herd health status. Objective: The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that haptoglobin (Hp) and serum amyloid A (SAA) have the potential for indicating uterine infection, mainly due to subclinical endometritis, which can seriously influence the reproductive performance in dairy cows. Methods: A total of 264 serum samples were collected from 24 Holstein dairy cows at defined intervals from 1 week prepartum to 6 months postpartum. Clinically healthy animals (Group 1, n=6) were compared with 24 animals having acute puerperal metritis (Group 2, n=18) and with concentrations obtained from healthy heifers (baseline values, n=10). The concentrations of serum Hp and SAA were measured using a hemoglobin‐binding assay and Western blot analysis, respectively. Reproductive performance was assessed as the number of days open and the conception rate at the end of the study. Results: Upper cut‐off values for Hp and SAA concentrations in heifers were 130.9 μg/L and 51.9 μg/mL, respectively. Hp concentrations in Group 2 were significantly higher than those in Group 1 at all time points (P<.001). Additionally, among the successfully pregnant animals, the number of days open was significantly higher in 6 cows with Hp >130.9 μg/mL (median=316 days) than in 11 cows with Hp ≤130.9 μg/mL (median=120 days) (P=.0024). Conclusions: Serum Hp and SAA concentrations can be used to recognize uterine infection in postpartum cows. The association between elevated Hp values and number of days open suggests Hp may also be a useful indicator of poor prognosis for reproductive performance.  相似文献

There is an increasing body of evidence that plasma acute phase proteins (APP) can be used as a marker to assess pig health. The objective of this study was to assess whether experimentally induced sub-clinical post-weaning colibacillosis (PWC) affects the concentration of two plasma APP, i.e. haptoglobin (Hp) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Since sub-clinical PWC is sensitive to protein supply, we additionally assessed whether these APP responses are sensitive to dietary protein contents. Weaned pigs (6 groups of 9 each) were offered one of the three foods, i.e. H (230 g CP/kg), L (130 g CP/kg) or HA (23% CP with anti-microbial growth promoters). On day 5 post-weaning, pigs were either dosed with 108 colony forming units of enterotoxigenic E. coli or were sham-infected. Three days later and across feeding treatments, infection had reduced feed intake. Feeding and infection treatment significantly interacted for both Hp and CRP. Infection increased Hp concentration in H and HA pigs, but not in L pigs, whilst infection increased CRP concentration to a larger extent in HA pigs than in H and L pigs. The results suggest that sub-clinical PWC leads to changes in APP profiles and that these changes may be sensitive to dietary protein contents. Usefulness of APP to describe health status in pigs may therefore need to be considered in relation to their nutritional environment.  相似文献

This study was focused on the changes observed in the serum concentration of haptoglobin (Hp), C-reactive protein (CRP), serum amyloid A (SAA) and Pig-major acute protein (Pig-MAP), during experimental porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection and in their relationship with the expression of interleukin 1β (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). Hp and Pig-MAP serum levels were increased at 10 dpi, but CRP and SAA showed a delayed and highly variable increase. All three proinflammatory cytokines were poorly expressed, and only a mild increase in IL-1β was observed at 7 dpi. The increased expression of Hp coincided with the light enhancement observed in both IL-6 and TNF-α, and might be related with an increased expression of IL-10. The low expression of TNF-α might point to a possible mechanism of viral evasion of host-immune response. This issue and the delayed expression of CRP and SAA should be taken into account in future studies about modulation of the immune response by PRRSV infection.  相似文献

Acute phase proteins (APP) are regarded as a useful diagnostic tool in humans with lymphomas, leukaemias and multiple myeloma. C-reactive protein (CRP) and haptoglobin concentrations were measured in dogs with malignant multicentric (high grade) lymphoma (n=16), acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) (n=11), chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) (n=7) and multiple myeloma (n=8). Twenty-five healthy dogs served as controls. Measurements of the CRP plasma concentration were performed using a commercial ELISA and haptoglobin was measured with an assay based on its haemoglobin binding capacity. Global group comparisons using Kruskal-Wallis-test revealed significant group differences for both APPs (P<0.0001). Median CRP concentrations were increased in all groups with neoplastic lymphatic disorders (lymphoma: 37.2mg/L, ALL: 47.8mg/L, CLL: 35.5mg/L, myeloma: 17.6mg/L) compared to controls (1.67mg/L; P<0.001). Compared to the healthy controls (median=0.59g/L), haptoglobin was especially increased in dogs with ALL (6.8g/L, P<0.0001) followed by dogs with malignant lymphoma (3.8g/L, P<0.0001), CLL (3.2g/L, P=0.0008), and multiple myeloma (3.0g/L, P=0.0163). For both APPs, a wide range of values was found in all patient groups. The results indicate that particularly severe and acute lymphatic neoplasia, such as high grade lymphoma and ALL, cause significant acute phase reactions in dogs and must be included in the differential diagnoses of increased blood levels of these APPs.  相似文献

Quantification of haptoglobin (Hp), an acute phase protein, in blood is presently discussed as being useful to monitor animal health. We developed an enzyme immuno assay (EIA) which is specific for porcine Hp, is not impaired by hemolytic samples and is sufficiently sensitive to be applied in meat juice. Hp was purified from porcine serum by affinity chromatography on hemoglobin Sepharose followed by gel filtration. A specific rabbit antiserum was obtained. In a competitive approach, biotinylated porcine Hp was used as tracer and incubated with Hp standard or sample in microtiter plates. The limit of detection was 0.02 mg/l, parallelism of sample dilutions was proven; recovery of Hp added to serum samples was 96.4 +/- 4.7%. The coefficients of intra and inter-assay variation were 3.3 (n=5) and 10.2% (n=16), respectively. Hp was reliably quantified in blood serum and plasma, whole blood, saliva and meat juice. For healthy pigs of different ages (4 weeks and 6 months), mean Hp concentrations of about 0.5-0.7 mg/ml were observed. To test the significance of Hp measurements in other matrices, samples were obtained from fattening pigs or from slaughter pigs. Blood serum or plasma was collected in parallel. In whole blood, Hp concentrations were about 40% lower than in plasma, but were closely related (n=24,r=0.85,P<0.001). Saliva Hp concentrations ranged between 0.3 and 3.0 microg/ml and were marginally related with blood plasma concentrations (n=93,r=0.35,P<0.001). From 106 hybrid slaughter pigs (100-110 kg) blood and muscle samples (diaphragmatic pillar, d.p.; m. brachiocephalicus, m.b.) were collected. Meat juice was obtained after freezing and thawing. Concentrations were 0.39+/-0.5 mg/ml in serum and 0.04+/-0.06 mg/ml in meat juice. Hp concentrations in blood were closely correlated with those in d.p. juice (P<0.001,r=0.750) and m.b. juice (P<0.001,r=0.776). In view of the many reports on Hp measurements being predictive for animal health even in the subclinical range, we conclude that Hp quantification in meat juice might be useful to assess meat quality at slaughter and further along the processing chain in terms of animal health.  相似文献

The effect of vulvar discharge syndrome (VDS) on sow and gilt fertility was studied on 26 farms. Of 824 animals inspected in 21 randomly selected and five VDS problem farms, 19 (2.3%) were afflicted with VDS. Altogether 542/799 of the examined animals (67.8%) farrowed thereafter. Nine of the 19 VDS animals (47.4%) and 533/780 non-VDS animals (68.3%) farrowed at the first chance after the examination (p = 0.05). None of the unmated gilts in this study had VDS. Environmental and individual factors likely to be associated with fertility and VDS were tested. In multivariate analysis, factors associated with farrowing were VDS, reproductive status, availability of roughage and confinement to individual stalls. None of the variables tested was associated with VDS. However, all of the VDS problem farms were overcrowded and had concrete, partly slatted floors with little or no bedding. The median value of haptoglobin (Hp) was 2.5 (range 1.3-3.1) g/l in VDS animals and 2.3 (0.5-4.3) g/l in controls (p = 0.6). The median C-reactive protein (CRP) in VDS animals was 30.3 (3.3-171.3) mg/l and in controls 25.9 (3.3-361.1) mg/l (p = 0.7). In conclusion, VDS decreased fertility of gilts and sows in the absence of a systemic acute-phase response, as indicated by stable concentrations of Hp and CRP.  相似文献

A time-resolved immunofluorometric assay (TR-IFMA) was developed for the determination of haptoglobin (Hp) in canine serum. Haptoglobin was purified from canine acute phase serum by ammonium sulphate precipitation followed by gel filtration. This isolated dog Hp was used as the standard to calibrate the assay. Intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation of the assay were, respectively, 5.7% and 16.6% at 0.51 mg/mL, 2.4% and 10.6% at 2.1 mg/mL and 10.5% and 11.9% at 32.5 mg/mL. The dilution of serum samples with high Hp concentrations resulted in linear regression equations with R2 of 0.99 and 0.97. A high correlation was found in serum Hp measurements by TR-IFMA and a commercial assay based on peroxidase activity of haemoglobin bound to haptoglobin (R2 = 0.96). The limit of detection for the TR-IFMA method was 0.002 microg/mL. The addition of fresh haemolysate to serum samples did not affect the haptoglobin concentration (P = 0.694). Statistical differences (P < 0.003) were found between healthy dogs and dogs with different pathological processes. In whole blood, Hp concentrations were much lower than in serum but closely related (R2 = 0.84) whereas saliva Hp concentrations were poorly related with serum concentrations (R2 = 0.53). However, the concentration of Hp in saliva was significantly (P < 0.039) higher in dogs with pathological processes compared to healthy dogs. The assay sensitivity was adequate to also be applied to whole blood and saliva specimens.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the serum level of C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactation and health status. Blood samples were collected every 2 wk for 12 mo from 29 randomly selected dairy cattle on 3 farms. At the time the blood samples were collected, the stage of pregnancy, lactation status, breeding records, general health condition, reproductive status, and body condition score were recorded for each cow. Serum CRP was detected with sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and western immunoblotting. C-reactive protein levels were measured with a densitometer and expressed as an optimal dose value. C-reactive protein levels were correlated with the body condition score, lactation status, and animal health (P < 0.05), but not with ambient temperature, animal age, or parity. C-reactive protein levels increased with milk production, peaking during high lactation (2 to 4 mo of pregnancy), and decreased when lactation ceased. In addition, the CRP level was highest during naturally occurring infections, such as mastitis and other tissue inflammation. Thus, the CRP level can confirm the presence of inflammation. The stress effect of taking blood samples as measured by the CRP level, was also examined. The CRP level became rapidly elevated 12 h after the blood samples were taken but returned to normal 36 h later. In conclusion, the stresses resulting from overall poor health, heavy lactation, and blood sampling caused the elevation of serum CRP. C-reactive protein is a marker or tool for evaluating the health status of a herd. C-reactive protein should also be considered as a useful criteria to assess the stress levels and may be useful in early surveillance of disease conditions in a dairy herd.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the characteristics of an automated canine C-reactive protein (CRP) assay and evaluate 2 human CRP assays for use in dogs. Animals-56 client-owned dogs with pyometra and 11 healthy control dogs. PROCEDURES: Samples from 11 dogs with high (> 100 mg/L) or low (< 10 mg/L) CRP concentrations (determined by use of a canine ELISA) were evaluated by use of the automated canine CRP assay. Intra- and interassay imprecision was determined (by use of those 2 plasma pools), and assay inaccuracy was assessed by use of logistic regression analysis of results obtained via ELISA and the automated canine CRP assay. Two automated human CRP assays were used to measure plasma CRP concentration in 10 dogs. RESULTS: By use of the ELISA, mean +/- SD plasma CRP concentration was 96.1 +/- 38.5 mg/L and 10.1 +/- 23.2 mg/L in dogs with pyometra and control dogs, respectively. The automated canine assay had intra-assay coefficients of variation (CVs) of 7.8% and 7.9%, respectively, and interassay CVs of 11.1% and 13.1%, respectively. Results from the automated assay were highly correlated with results obtained via ELISA. The human assay results did not exceed 0.4 mg/L in any dog. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The automated canine CRP assay had less interassay imprecision, compared with the ELISA. The 2 human CRP assays were not suitable for analysis of canine plasma samples. The automated canine CRP assay was more precise than the ELISA for serial evaluations of plasma CRP concentration in dogs.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Increased concentrations of haptoglobin (Hp), a moderate acute phase protein, have been demonstrated in dogs with hyperadrenocorticism (HAC). Monitoring serum concentrations of Hp in hyperadrenocorticoid dogs before and after trilostane administration may provide valuable information on the response to therapy. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to measure Hp concentrations in dogs with spontaneously occurring HAC at the time of diagnosis and after treatment with trilostane. METHODS: Serum Hp concentration was measured using an automatic biochemical assay based on Hp-hemoglobin binding and utilizing SB-7 reagent in 12 dogs with spontaneous HAC before and after treatment with trilostane (30 or 60 mg PO q 12-24 h). Post-treatment Hp concentrations were measured at the time the owner reported an improvement in clinical signs. Pretreatment and post-treatment Hp values were compared with reference values and with values from 4 healthy control dogs. RESULTS: Two dogs with HAC had pretreatment Hp values within the reference interval; 10 dogs had moderate (n = 8) or marked (n = 2) increases in Hp concentration. After treatment with trilostane, Hp concentration remained within the reference interval (n = 2), decreased to within the reference interval (n = 3), or remained moderately increased (n = 7; 3-10 g/L). Overall, a significant decrease was observed in Hp concentration after trilostane treatment compared with pretreatment values (P <.005). Both untreated and treated dogs with HAC had significantly higher Hp concentrations (P <.001) when compared with control dogs. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical control of HAC did not closely relate to serum Hp concentration. Further studies are required to assess whether this is because of inadequate control of disease or because a build-up of cortisol precursors or secondary effects of HAC affect Hp concentration.  相似文献

The concentrations of haptoglobin (Hp), C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum amyloid A (SAA) were measured in wasted pigs, first to evaluate their usefulness in the diagnosis of infectious, wasting diseases in pigs, and second, to evaluate whether their concentrations can distinguish the lymphoid depletion score in the lymph tissues of wasted affected pigs. Fifty-three wasted pigs and seven specific pathogen free (SPF) pigs were postmortem examined. Gross lesions were evaluated and samples for histopathological, immunohistochemical, molecular biology and microbiological analysis were taken. Thirty-one pigs were diagnosed as postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) and 22 as porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). Lymphoid depletion degree in lymph tissues of PMWS and PRDC affected pigs was determined. Serum Hp was significantly higher in pigs with PRDC in comparison with the PMWS affected pigs. Serum CRP concentration was significantly lower in pigs with PRDC than in PMWS affected pigs (P<0.001). CRP and SAA levels increased with the lymphoid depletion score, presenting statistical differences between pigs with no depletion and pigs with low, moderate or severe lymphoid depletion (P<0.05, P<0.05 and P<0.001 for CRP and P<0.01, P<0.01 and P<0.01 for SAA, respectively). Hp was higher in pigs with no or low depletion compared with the pigs suffering severe lymphoid depletion (P<0.001 and P<0.05, respectively).  相似文献
