In the Research News article "New theory of hormones proposed" (12 Mar., p. 1383) by Gina Kolata, glycyrrhetinic acid and tetrahydrocannabinol were incorrectly identified as alkaloids. This misidentification in no way changes the conclusions about these plant substances. 相似文献

In "Women in Science: Some Books of the Year" (11 March, p. 1458) the name of the senior editor of second edition of The History of Women and Science, Health, and Technology should have been given as Phyllis Holman Weisbard, and the name of the editor of the first edition should have been given as Susan Searing. Also, the statement that the author of A Matter of Choices: Memoirs of a Female Physicist, Fay Ajzenberg-Selove, is now retired was incorrect. 相似文献

The Books Received listing of 26 November (p. 1463) for Thomas F. Lee's Gene Future: The Promise and Perils of the New Biology (Plenum, New York, 1993) included a line of information that did not apply to that book. The price given for the book, $24.95, was correct. 相似文献

In the Research News article "Extreme ultraviolet satellites open new view of the sky" by Donald Goldsmith (14 Apr., p. 202), astronomer Stuart Bowyer was incorrectly identified as the director of the University of California, Berkeley's Center for Extreme Ultraviolet Astronomy. Bowyer was the founding director of the center and was succeeded by Roger Malina, who became acting director in 1994 and is now director. Malina is, with Bowyer, a principal investigator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's EUVE (Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer) mission. 相似文献

In the report "Activation and regeneration of rhodopsin in the insect visual cycle" by A. Kiselev and S. Subramaniam (25 Nov., p. 1369), the second and third sentences of the last paragraph on page 1371 were incorrectly printed. They should have read, "When rhodopsin was re-excited immediately after it was regenerated, most of the metarhodopsin formed was thermally stable (that is, M(b) was formed predominantly; Fig. 4A). However, when rhodopsin was re-examined after waiting for various lengths of time (in the dark), an exponential increase was observed in the amount of thermally unstable metarhodopsin produced, implying heterogeneity in the rhodopsin population." 相似文献

In the news briefing "The world's most prolific scientists" (17 Jan., p. 283), Arnold L. Rheingold, a crystallographer at the University of Delaware, was inadvertently left off the list of the top 20 most prolific scientists. The Institute for Scientific Information has corrected its list and states that Rheingold published 391 articles and other scientific communications between 1981 and the end of 1990. He should have ranked 13th on the list. 相似文献

The caption accompanying the News article by Steve Sternberg "The emerging fungal threat" (9 Dec., p. 1632) should not have included the words "in the body." Candida albicans produces hyphae, but not chlamydospores, in the body. 相似文献

The Research News article by Faye Flam about the 1993 physics Nobel Prize ("A prize for patient listening," 22 Oct., p. 507), awarded to Joseph Taylor and Russell Hulse for the discovery of a binary pulsar, incorrectly attributed key observations. The measurements implying that the pulsar is emitting gravitational waves were made by Taylor in collaboration with Joel Weisberg, Lee Fowler, and Peter McCulloch, not by Taylor and Hulse. 相似文献

In the letter of 23 October by Charles A. Gardner (p. 530), Dr. Gardner's address was incorrectly given as the Subcommittee on Human Resources and Intergovernmental Relations of the House Committee on Government Operations. Dr. Gardner was a AAAS Congressional Science Fellow assigned to that subcommittee through August 1992, but the views expressed in his letter were his own and not those of the subcommittee. 相似文献
