An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary chromium picolinate supplement on growth and haematology parameters of grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idellus. Six diets with increasing dietary chromium picolinate levels 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6 and 3.2 mg kg−1 were fed to triplicate groups of 20 fish (initial weight of 12.78 ± 1.16 g, mean ± SD) in a flow water system for 10 weeks. Fish fed the diet supplemented with 0.8 mg Cr kg−1 had significantly improved weight gain (WG), feed efficiency ratio (FER), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and protein retention (PR). Fish fed high-chromium diets exhibited lower whole-body crude lipid contents than fish fed low-chromium diets. Liver glycogen concentrations for fish fed the diet with 0.2 mg Cr kg−1 was the highest (77.67 mg g−1). Fish fed the diet supplemented with 1.6 and 3.2 mg Cr kg−1 had significantly lower liver glycogen concentrations than other groups (P < 0.05). The highest serum insulin concentrations were observed in fish fed the diet supplemented with 0.8 mg Cr kg−1, but serum insulin concentrations decreased (P < 0.05) when dietary supplementation of chromium was higher than 0.8 mg Cr kg−1. Cholesterol concentrations decreased in direct proportion to dietary chromium level and achieved the lowest level when the fish were fed the 0.8 mg Cr kg−1 diet, but increased when the fish were fed the diet with more than 0.8 mg Cr kg−1 (P < 0.05). Fish fed the diet supplemented with 0.8 mg Cr kg−1 had higher triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations compared to other treatments. The results of the present study suggested that chromium picolinate could modify serum carbohydrate and lipid metabolism profile, and that the optimal dietary chromium level was 0.8 mg kg−1 for grass carp according to growth.  相似文献

The effect of replacing fish meal with soybean meal (SBM) pretreated with phytase on feeds of juvenile rainbow trout was evaluated in a 90-day feeding trial. The rainbow trout (initial body weight, 4.01 ± 0.02 g) were fed five isonitrogenous (crude protein, 44.97%) and isolipidic (crude lipid, 13.42%) feeds. Diets were formulated to contain phytase-pretreated SBM replacing 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80% of fish meal protein, respectively. The results showed that there was no significant difference in weight gain (WG) among fish fed S0, S20, S40 and S60 diets; however, a significant reduction of this variable occurred when 80% of fish meal protein was replaced by phytase-treated SBM (P < 0.05). Similarly, specific growth rate and protein efficiency ratio had a similar trend with WG. Apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of protein and lipid in the S80 diet was significantly lower than that of the other diets, and the ADC of phosphorus significantly increased with the increase of dietary phytase-treated SBM level. No significant differences among treatments were detected for moisture, protein, lipid and ash content in whole body and muscle samples. Nitrogen and phosphorus excretion indicated that fish meal replacement by phytase-treated SBM led to an increase in nitrogen excretion, but led to a reduction in total phosphorus excretion. The results of the present study show that 60% of fish meal could be replaced by phytase-treated SBM in diets of juvenile rainbow trout without compromising weight gain or feed efficiency. A quadratic equation according to regression analysis of weight gain against dietary phytase-treated SBM level indicated that the optimal level of dietary phytase-treated SBM replacement for maximum growth was 26.90%.  相似文献

This study was designed in vitro to investigate the effects of l-carnitine against H2O2-induced oxidative stress in a grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) ovary cell line (GCO). GCO cells were pre-treated with different concentrations of l-carnitine, followed by incubation with 2.5 mM H2O2 for 1 h to induce oxidative damage. The results indicated that adding l-carnitine at concentrations of 0.01–1 mM into the medium for 12 h significantly increased cell viability. Pre-treatment with l-carnitine at concentrations of 0.1–5 mM for 12 h significantly inhibited 2.5 mM H2O2-induced cell viability loss. The significant decreases in the level of reactive oxygen species and cell apoptosis were observed in 0.5 mM l-carnitine group compared to the H2O2 group. Malondialdehyde values of all of the l-carnitine groups were significantly lower than those of the H2O2 group, while total glutathione levels of all of the l-carnitine groups were significantly higher than of the H2O2 group. The activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as total superoxide dismutase (0.1 and 0.5 mM l-carnitine), catalase (0.5 mM l-carnitine) and γ-glutamyl cysteine synthetase (0.5 and 1 mM l-carnitine), was significantly increased. In addition, pre-treatment of l-carnitine in GCO cells exposed to 2.5 mM H2O2 significantly increased the mRNA expression of copper, zinc superoxide dismutase, catalase (0.5 mM l-carnitine), glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (0.1–1 mM) and glutathione peroxidase (0.1 mM l-carnitine). In conclusion, l-carnitine promotes GCO cell growth and improves antioxidant function, it plays a protective role against oxidative stress induced by H2O2 in GCO cells, and the appropriate supplemental amount of l-carnitine is 0.1–1 mM.  相似文献

The present study examined the effects of high-concentration ascorbic acid (AsA) supplementation over a long period on growth, plasma components, nonspecific immune responses, and thermal tolerance in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. Four commercial diets supplemented with 0, 100, 1000, and 5000 mg AsA per kg of diet (designated AsA0, AsA100, AsA1000, and AsA5000, respectively) were fed to rainbow trout (initial weight 1.85 g) for 100 days. AsA contents in liver increased with increasing dietary AsA levels. Feeding period, growth performance, and plasma components did not differ significantly between the AsA groups. On the other hand, the phagocytic assay [nitro-blue tetrazolium (NBT) assay] was significantly higher in fish fed AsA1000 and AsA5000 than those fed a diet without AsA (AsA0) at the end of feeding trial. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the intestines of fish fed AsA5000 was also significantly higher than that of fish fed AsA0. In the thermal tolerance test, fish fed AsA5000 only showed significantly lower cumulative mortality compared with the AsA0 group. In conclusion, high-concentration AsA supplementation such as AsA5000 over a long period does not induce any adverse effects and can enhance disease and stress resistance in rainbow trout.  相似文献

To assess the effect of dietary ascorbate on lipid metabolism, 1-year black sea bream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) were reared on a casein-based purified diet and an ascorbate fortified diet (1,100 mg of l-ascorbyl-2- monophosphate-Mg/kg diet). The fortified ascorbate was effectively incorporated into the fish body and elevated muscle carnitine content. Fortifications of dietary ascorbate depressed activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and NADP-isocitrate dehydrogenase as lipogenic enzymes in the hepatopancreas and intraperitoneal fat body. Starvation after feeding experiment activated carnitine palmitoyltransferase as a lipolysis enzyme in the hepatopancreas in both control and vitamin C(VC) groups, while the lipolysis activity was significantly higher in VC group. These results confirmed that dietary ascorbate depressed lipogenesis and activated lipolysis, i.e., influenced the lipid metabolism of black sea bream.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of chromium picolinate (Cr-Pic) on growth performance, body composition, and biochemical parameters in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. Five experimental diets were formulated with high-protein diet (HP), low-protein diet (LP), and LP + 0.6, 1.2, or 1.8 mg kg?1 Cr, respectively. Each diet was randomly assigned to four replicate groups of 30 fish per aquarium in a water-circulated rearing system for 60 days. Dietary 1.2 or 1.8 mg kg?1 Cr inclusion significantly affects the final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, feed efficiency rate, and protein efficiency ratio of tilapia compare to the LP diet. The Cr inclusion significantly decreased the content of blood urea nitrogen and the blood glucose level generally with increasing Cr inclusion levels. The Cr content of gill tissue was higher than that of back muscle in all treatments, and the addition of 1.2 or 1.8 mg kg?1 Cr significantly enhanced the Cr contents of back muscle. The cold stress test results showed that adding Cr significantly enhanced the serum T3 concentration and reduced the activity of serum creatine kinase and the serum cortisol level. These results indicated that the supplementation of chromium picolinate can improve the growth performance and reshape the serum protein and carbohydrate metabolism profile and has the potentiality to alleviate the detrimental effects of cold stress in Nile tilapia. The low-protein diet with 1.8 mg kg?1 Cr obtained the same growth performance as the high-protein diet.  相似文献

An eight-week feeding experiment was conducted to quantify the dietary threonine requirement of young catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis (9.20 ± 0.85 cm, 3.60 ± 0.45 g) using isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets [40% crude protein (CP); 4.28 kcal g/100 g, gross energy (GE)] containing casein, gelatin and l-crystalline amino acids. Six dietary treatments supplemented with graded levels of l-threonine (0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25, 1.50 and 1.75 g per 100 g, dry diet), in gradations of 0.25 g per 100 g dry diet were formulated. Fish were randomly stocked, in triplicate groups, in 55-l indoor polyvinyl flow-through circular tanks and fed experimental diets at 4% of their body weight divided over two equal feedings at 08:00 and 16:00 hours. Feeding schedule and ration size were worked out prior to the start of the feeding trial. Live weight gain (263%), feed conversion ratio (FCR) (1.35) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) (1.85) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in fish fed a diet containing 1.25% dietary threonine. However, second-degree polynomial regression analysis of live weight gain, FCR, PER and body protein deposition data indicated the dietary threonine requirement to be 1.37, 1.26, 1.23 and 1.24 g per 100 g of dry diet, respectively. Whole-body moisture decreased significantly (P < 0.05) with the increase of dietary concentration up to 1.25%. A significantly (P < 0.05) higher protein content was evident in fish fed a diet containing 1.25% threonine. Body fat increased significantly (P < 0.05) with the increase of dietary concentration and was found to be highest at a 1.75% threonine concentration. A significantly (P < 0.05) higher ash content was reported at the 0.50 and 0.75% threonine levels. Body protein deposition was also found to be significantly (P < 0.05) higher at the 1.25% threonine level, followed by the 1.50% threonine level. Based on these results, it is recommended that the diet for fingerling H. fossilis should contain threonine at a level of 1.27 g per 100 g of dry diet, corresponding to 3.17 g per 100 g of dietary protein for optimum growth and efficient feed utilization. No mortality was observed during the experiment.  相似文献

Triploid hybrids between female rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) and male brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) were tested for farming performances, with reference to parental species. The main drawback of hybrids lay in embryonic and larval mortalities, amounting to 60% on average, and displaying a large variability between spawns. Further survival was inferior to that of diploid, but similar to that of triploid rainbow trout. Hybrid body weight was intermediate between weights of rainbow and brown trout of the same age, mainly as a consequence of differences in precocious growth. Analysis of relative growth rates from 6 to 18 months showed that hybrids were surpassed by rainbow controls in common rearing, but not in separate rearing. Hybrid behaviour was similar to that of rainbow trout. These results are discussed in the scope of providing fisheries managers with original and sterile game fishes. This paper reports the effect of feeding probiotic diets on blood profiles in rainbow trout. Two experiments were performed: in the first, fish of average weight 75 g were offered either a commercial feed or the same incorporated with 109 CFU g−1 of lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus rhamnosus for 30 days; in the second study performed for a similar duration, fish of average weight 126 g were offered formulated diets that either contained the same bacteria in heat-killed or freeze-dried form (nearly 1011 CFU g−1), or the basal diet without the bacteria. Blood samples were collected at different times after commencement of probiotic feeding to determine the total cholesterol, triglyceride contents, the plasma alkaline phosphatase activity, plasma protein and hematocrit value. The plasma cholesterol significantly increased upon probiotic feeding in the first experiment. A significant elevation (P < 0.05) of plasma cholesterol and triglyceride and alkaline phosphatase activity level was found in the freeze-dried probiotic fed groups at 20 and 30 days postfeeding. This was concomitant with the increased plasma protein and hematocrit values in FD group at 20 and 30 days. Likewise, the heat-killed probiotic fed group registered significantly high values of triglycerides, alkaline phosphatase activity, and plasma protein compared to the control diet fed groups after 20 days of feeding. Thus, alterations in the blood profiles could serve as supplementary information when examining the benefits of probiotics for fish.  相似文献

The effect of chromium (chromium picolinate, CrPic) supplementation at various levels (0, 400, 800 or 1600 μg Cr/kg diet) on serum concentrations of glucose and cholesterol and on serum and liver concentrations of Cr, Zn, Cu and Fe of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was evaluated. One-year-old rainbow trout (n=120) were randomly assigned to four treatment groups, each with two replicates of 15 fish. The fish were fed either a control diet or the control diet supplemented with either 400, 800 or 1600 μg Cr/kg diet. Serum glucose and cholesterol concentrations decreased (p=0.001) with higher dietary chromium supplementation. Increasing dietary chromium supplementation linearly increased serum chromium and zinc concentrations (p=0.001). Serum copper and iron concentrations did not change (p>0.10) as dietary chromium supplementation increased. Liver chromium and zinc concentrations linearly increased (p=0.001). Also, liver Cu and Fe concentrations did not change (p>0.10) as dietary chromium supplementation increased. The results of present study conclude that supplemental chromium to the diet of rainbow trout influences serum and liver Cr and Zn concentrations, thus most probably functions of the organs as well as the welfare of raibow trout.  相似文献

In order to evaluate the feasibility of dried seaweed Gracilaria lemaneiformis (Bory) as a dietary ingredient for the rabbitfish Siganus canaliculatus (Park), juvenile fish (average weight 15.64 ± 0.15 g) were fed with two isonitrogenous (32% crude protein) and isolipid (8% lipid) diets for 8 weeks, with one diet incorporating 33% of dried G. lemaneiformis (DGL), which accounted for 6% protein and 17% carbohydrate (DGL-diet), and the other containing no DGL (control diet). After 8 weeks, the growth performance and feed utilization efficiency of fish fed with the DGL-diet were inferior to fish fed with the control diet, although some non-specific immunity parameters were better in fish fed with the DGL-diet compared with those of fish fed control diet. Nutritional composition (whole body composition, amino acid, and fatty acid composition in dorsal muscle) except methionine and tyrosine in muscle showed no differences between the two groups. Furthermore, the survival rate of fish and apparent digestibility coefficient of diets were the same between the two groups. These results indicated that incorporation of DGL in diet of S. canaliculatus is feasible, and further studies are recommended to optimize the level of DGL in diet of S. canaliculatus to improve growth performance.  相似文献

Olive mill vegetation water (VW) is an olive oil by-product rich in polyphenols has powerful antioxidant effects. In light of the interest on the research of novel natural antioxidants to use in fish feed, the aim of this research was to use VW as a potential substitute for artificial antioxidants in rainbow trout diet as well as checking its effects on the blood chemistry and digestive organ physiology of the fish. The experimental plan was monofactorial, balanced (4 × 3) and the experimental factor considered was the fish diet. Diets were isoproteic (CP 40%) and isoenergetic (18 MJ kg−1 DM) with two inclusion levels of VW (1 and 5%: VW1 and VW5) tested against a control diet. A feeding trial was performed on quadruplicate groups of 200 fish (mean body weight: 44.2 g) fed experimental diets for 94 days. At the end of the trial, the growth performance traits were determined and sampling of blood and different tissues (brain, ovary, stomach, liver, and intestine) were carried out for haematology, endocrinology, histology, and digestive enzyme analysis. The main results of the present experimentation are that VW inclusion in rainbow trout feed slightly affects the productive traits and blood chemistry, while the histological structure of digestive organs and digestive enzyme physiology were not affected.  相似文献

Brown trout Salmo trutta were first introduced into Japan in 1892, and they currently naturally reproduce in several rivers in Honshu and Hokkaido, Japan. Although negative impacts of brown trout introductions on native salmonid fishes have been documented in some Hokkaido rivers, studies of ecological interactions between brown trout and native salmonid fishes on Honshu are limited. In this study, we describe the longitudinal distribution patterns of introduced brown trout, white-spotted charr Salvelinus leucomaenis and masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou in a 4 km stretch of a stream in central Honshu. Underwater observations were conducted in all pools within upstream, middle and downstream sections (190–400 m in length) of this stretch in order to estimate the densities of these species. Only white-spotted charr was observed in the upstream section, while brown trout and masu salmon were observed in the middle and downstream sections. Masu salmon densities, however, were much lower than brown trout densities. In the downstream section, white-spotted charr was absent. These results are consistent with results from previous studies of Hokkaido rivers, where it was found that white-spotted charr in low-gradient areas tend to be displaced by brown trout.  相似文献

We have investigated the possibility of using a consortium of marine bacterium and periphytic microalgae to improve the water quality and increase the growth and survival of the shrimp Penaeus monodon in a hatchery system. Three treatments were evaluated for their effect on P. monodon postlarvae (PL) when the culture water was not changed: Bacillus pumilus alone (B); periphytic microalgae alone (M); B. pumilus + periphytic microalgae (BM). P. monodon PL raised in a tank of unchanged water without bacterium and periphytic microalgae served as the control. The water in tanks of the M and BM treatments had significantly low levels of total ammonia-nitrogen (TAN) (0.03 and 0.01 mg l−1, respectively) and nitrite-nitrogen (NO2-N) (0.03, 0.01 mg l−1, respectively) than that in the B (TAN 0.80, NO2-N 0.68 mg l−1) and control (TAN 1.11, NO2-N 1.12 mg l−1) tanks. Moreover, PL cultured in tanks M and BM had significantly higher survival and specific growth rates and a significantly higher resistance to the reverse salinity stress test than those in the B and control tanks. Compared to the control PL, the PL cultured in the BM tanks had significantly higher levels of protein, lipid, polyunsaturated fatty acids, ecosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid. The culture water in tanks BM also contained significantly less Vibrio than the control water. Our results illustrate the beneficial effects of a B. pumilus and periphytic microalgae consortium on improving the water quality and the growth and survival of shrimp PL grown in a hatchery system.  相似文献

The proline-rich protein 13 (PRR13) is reported to be a key regulator of the resistance to cytostatica by decreasing the copy number of the proapoptotic gene thrombospondin-1. We isolated and characterized the complete PRR13 gene sequence of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The gene comprises four exons and three introns, the latter of comparatively short lengths (100–811 bp). The full-length PRR13 cDNA consists of 1,101 nucleotides, including an open reading frame of 563 bp, which is predicted to encode a 187 amino acid protein with a molecular mass of 18.8 kDa. A continuous stretch of ten serine residues at the C-terminus is highly conserved and characteristic for vertebrate PRR13, but not for other known proline-rich proteins. Phylogenetic analyses suggest a clear separation of teleostean PRR13 proteins and those from mammalian and reptilian species. Comparison of the tissue-specific PRR13 mRNA abundance in two strains of the rainbow trout coastal form (TCO Steelhead II-WA vs. BORN Steelhead II-Germany) revealed an increased expression in the BORN trout in nearly all examined tissues. The major expression differences were detected in gill (2.29-fold) and in liver tissue (2.16-fold). Hence, the increased PRR13 expression in BORN trout might cause improved protection from natural cytostatica and therefore support our assumption that PRR13 is a candidate gene possibly involved in the varying ability of the two rainbow trout strains to handle environmental stress under local conditions of the Southern Baltic.  相似文献

Silymarin, an extract from “milk thistle” (Silybum marianum) plant is traditionally used as herbal medicine. The present study was conducted to investigate the clinical effects and possible side effects of silymarin on biochemical blood parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Fishes were treated with 0 (control), 100, 400, and 800 mg of silymarin per kg of food during 4 weeks. Plasma alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), creatine kinase (CK), glucose, total protein, creatinine, triglyceride, cholesterol, urea, uric acid and liver cellular total antioxidant, and protein content were measured after 7, 14, and 28 days of silymarin treatment. The results showed that oral administration of silymarin in fish significantly reduced plasma glucose and cholesterol levels and relatively increased plasma total protein and globulin concentrations (P < 0.05). Increasing plasma albumin levels indicate the important role of albumin in drug transportation in circulatory system of fish. Silymarin also stabilized cellular membrane structure and regulated the levels of AST, ALT, ALP, CK, and LDH activity. In conclusion, on the basis of these results, oral administration of silymarin up to 400 mg per 1 kg of food has no side effect on blood biochemical and clinical parameters of fishes. However, oral administration of 800 mg/kg- of silymarin caused cytotoxicity and modifications in blood biochemical parameters of fish.  相似文献

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a very potent antioxidant derived from green tea, was compared with vitamin E in terms of its effects on antioxidant defense and immune response of rainbow trout, by means of a feeding trial of eight weeks. Two of the experimental diets were supplemented with EGCG at either 20 or 100 mg kg−1 diet (which contained only 30% of the intended levels) and the third was provided with 100 mg kg−1 vitamin E but not EGCG. The control diet was not supplemented with the test components. Observation of tissue levels indicated that the high amount of EGCG helped to increase the availability of the lipid-soluble antioxidant vitamin E. The lower levels of lipid hydroperoxide in the liver of fish fed the higher amount of EGCG suggested that it was an effective antioxidant. Considering the immune indices, EGCG and vitamin E at 100 mg (actual amounts 31.9 and 94.1 mg kg−1 diet, respectively) had identical capabilities in improving phagocytic activity and controlling hydrogen peroxide production by leucocytes. However, EGCG could possibly be more effective at enhancing serum lysozyme activity and the alternative complement activity. This work revealed the potential of EGCG as an antioxidant and an immunostimulant for rainbow trout, at least at the inclusion level of 32 mg kg−1 diet.  相似文献

The present experiment was conducted to determine the dietary total phosphorus requirement of juvenile yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. Six diets with increasing dietary phosphorus concentration (0.43, 0.55, 0.78, 0.90, 1.05 and 1.18% of dry matter, respectively) were fed to triplicate groups of 20 fish each (mean initial body weight, 2.68 ± 0.08 g, mean ± SD) to apparent satiation for 7 weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) increased with increasing dietary phosphorus level from 0.43 to 0.90% and then declined over dietary phosphorus level of 0.90% (P < 0.05). Phosphorus retention increased with increasing dietary phosphorus level from 0.43 to 0.55% and then declined over dietary phosphorus level of 0.55% (P < 0.05). Dietary phosphorus levels significantly influenced whole body crude protein and ash contents (P < 0.05), but not whole body lipid content (P > 0.05). Vertebrae phosphorus content increased with dietary phosphorus level from 0.43 to 0.78% (P < 0.05) and then plateau over the level of 0.78% (P > 0.05). Dietary phosphorus level significantly influenced condition factor, viscerosomatic index and hepatosomatic index (P < 0.05). The relationship between SGR and whole body ash content against dietary phosphorus levels could be expressed as a second-order polynomial equation and the points of 0.89 and 0.85% were considered to be the optimal dietary total phosphorus level, respectively. Based on broken-line analysis of vertebrae phosphorus content, the minimal dietary total phosphorus requirements for maintaining maximum phosphorus storages were estimated to be 0.76% phosphorus.  相似文献

An 8-week growth trial was conducted to assess the effect of dietary protein on growth, feed utilization, protein retention efficiency, and body composition of young Heteropneustes fossilis (10.02 ± 0.09 g; 9.93 ± 0.07 cm). Isocaloric (4.15 kcal g−1, GE) diets with varying levels of protein (25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50% of the diet) were fed near to satiation to triplicate groups of fish. Optimum dietary protein was determined by analyzing live weight gain (LWG%), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), specific growth rate (SGR%), and protein retention efficiency (PRE%) data. Maximum LWG% (167), best FCR (1.42), PER (1.75), SGR (1.76), and PRE (31.7%) were evident in fish fed 40% protein diet (Diet 4). Body protein data also supported the above level. However, second-degree polynomial regression analysis of the above data indicated that inclusion of dietary protein in the range of 40–43% is optimum for the growth of young H. fossilis.  相似文献
