In 30 clinically healthy dogs (weights 7.5 to 57 kg) and in 41 proteinuric dogs the 131I-hippuran blood disappearance curve after single injection was determined (0 to 90 minutes), described by a bi-exponential function and analysed according to a two compartment model. The dependence of the blood clearance (C), representing an effective renal blood flow, on the bodyweight (W) (kg) could be described with both a linear function (C = 61 + 13.2 W ml min-1) and a power function (C = 30.56 W0.79 ml min-1) in the healthy dogs. The results of the regression between blood clearance and bodyweight were reproducible (r = 0.92, n = 10 residual error 12 per cent, P less than 0.01).  相似文献

Whole blood platelet aggregation in uremic dogs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Whole blood platelet aggregation responses to collagen, arachidonic acid, and adenosine diphosphate were determined by use of the impedance method in 22 dogs with serum urea concentrations greater than or equal to 20 mmol/L, which was attributable to renal disease, and in 25 healthy control dogs. The median changes in impedance for the control dogs were 23 ohms for collagen, 18 ohms for arachidonic acid, and 6 ohms for adenosine diphosphate. The median changes in impedance in uremic dogs were 25 ohms for collagen, 21 ohms for arachidonic acid, and 15 ohms for adenosine diphosphate. There were no significant differences in platelet aggregation responses to collagen, arachidonic acid, and adenosine diphosphate between uremic and control dogs. Hemorrhagic tendencies were not detected in uremic dogs by use of whole blood platelet aggregation. Results of this study suggest that platelet aggregation by use of the whole blood platelet aggregometer is not abnormal in uremic dogs, but does not exclude the possibility of a platelet aggregation defect undetected by the whole blood system.  相似文献

The activated coagulation time (ACT) of whole blood was determined at 37C and at room temperature for 42 normal dogs and eight dogs with naturally–occurring or experimentally–induced coagulation defects.
Normal ACT values ranged from 64 to 95 seconds at 37C, and 83 to 129 seconds at room temperature. In abnormal dogs, ACT was increased on 14 of 17 occasions that a prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) was recorded: the ACT failed to detect an abnormality on three occasions the APTT was slightly increased. ACT determination at 37C correlated better with APTT than did ACT testing at room temperature.
The ACT test is simple, inexpensive and convenient. It is a useful screening test for intrinsic coagulation defects in the dog. It is suggested that the test be performed at 37C: at this temperature an ACT of 95 seconds or more in a dog warrants further investigation.  相似文献

Blood samples were collected by microhematocrit tube from posterior medial margin of the shaved, but otherwise untreated, canine ear. Acid-base and blood gas values of these samples were compared with the values of samples obtained simultaneously from the carotid artery. The arterialized nature of capillary blood from the canine ear was demonstrated under various degrees of chemical restraint and during conditions of extreme hypoxic acidosis to hyperventilatory alkalosis. Once a week determinations of acid-base and blood gas status with such arterialized capillary blood from a group of awake dogs showed within-subject variance to be significantly less (P less than 0.05) than between-subject variance; thus, uniqueness of individual dogs was reliably revealed. This technique also was used to demonstrated breed differences for acid-base and blood gas characteristics.  相似文献

Previous experience has shown that a noninvasive (indirect) technique using an oscillomet-ric monitor in conjunction with a tail cuff makes routine clinical blood pressure measurement practicable in dogs. The relationship between indirect and direct readings has been evaluated in both anaesthetised and conscious dogs (Bodey and others 19 94 , 1996). In this study, more than 2000 pressure measurements were taken from 1903 dogs. It was found that systolic is the most variable pressure parameter and that it depends on age, breed, sex, temperament, disease state, exercise regime and, to a minor extent, diet. Diet was not a significant determinant of diastolic and mean arterial pressure. Age and breed were the major predictors for all parameters. Heart rate was primarily affected by the temperament of the animal, though other factors also play a part in prediction. The distribution of systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressure and heart rate across the dog population approximates to a log normal distribution. On the basis of these results it is possible to describe normal ranges for canine blood pressure; definition of hypertension, though, demands attention to age and breed normal values. The existence of statistically defined hypertension in an individual or breed does not imply adverse effects justifying therapy. Among the secondary causes of hypertension, such as diabetes, obesity and hyperadrenocorticism, hepatic disease was a new addition also undocumented in humans. The hypothesis that dogs, though classic model animals for hypertension, are resistant to its development found support from the modest increase in mean pressure values observed among dogs with renal disease, notably those with substantial reduction of glomerular filtration rate. The existence of breeds such as deerhounds with average pressures in the borderline range for hypertension in humans (and many individuals, therefore, well above) suggests that dogs may also be resistant to some of the adverse effects of high blood pressure.  相似文献

Bloodpressure measurements are of interest for todays veterinary practice. It can be used for screening of incoming patients, the emergency case, the intensive care patient and sedated animal. Furthermore, like in human medicine, blood pressure can be influenced by several diseases. The most reliable method of arterial blood pressure measurement is the direct or invasive method. Only the non-invasive methods doppler and oscillometric methods are used in veterinary medicine. The article describes the method of measurement, and provides a review of the literature. The oscillometric method especially in dogs. Both methods measure a lower bloodpressure if compared with an invasive method. The difference in bloodpressure is for the oscillometric method in cats greater then in dogs and appears to increase at higher blood pressures. Keeping these facts in focus, and if one is able to work in a quiet environment, repeat the measurements and maintain a critical attitude, blood pressure measurements can be performed in veterinary practice.  相似文献

Using the telemetry system, we measured the blood pressure (BP) invasively in seven adult mongrels while unanesthetized and unbound. Post-operative BP after implanting the telemetry BP transmitter showed temporarily high values due to the invasive nature of the surgery. It was, however, observed that BP gradually decreased thereafter, and showed settled trends from the eighth day post-operatively. When we took the average of the systolic, mean and diastolic BP at hourly intervals for each of the dogs once their BP had settled, a twin peak diurnal variation (at 8:00 and 19:00) was observed. Moreover, significantly high values (p < 0.05) were identified in active state compared with when sleeping or at rest. The 24 hr BP measured by the telemetry system in seven normal dogs resulted in the following values: systolic 123.4 +/- 7.9 mmHg, mean 91.1 +/- 5.6 mmHg, and diastolic 74.5 +/- 4.9 mmHg.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Lactate concentration often is quantified in systemically ill dogs and interpreted based on human data. To our knowledge, there are no published clinical studies evaluating serial lactate concentrations as a prognostic indicator in ill dogs. OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to perform a prospective study, using multivariate analysis, to determine whether serial lactate concentrations were associated with outcome in ill dogs requiring intravenous fluids. METHODS: Eighty sick dogs had lactate concentrations evaluated, using an analyzer that measures lactate in the plasma fraction of heparinized whole blood, at 0 hours and 6 hours after initiation of treatment. Severity of illness and outcome (survivor, nonsurvivor) were determined by reviewing the patient's record 2 weeks after admission. Lactate concentrations, age, body weight, gender, and severity of illness were evaluated using multivariate analysis to determine their effects on outcome. RESULTS: Dogs with lactate concentrations greater than the reference interval at 6 hours were 16 times (95% confidence interval = 2.32-112.71 times, P <.01) more likely not to survive compared to dogs with lactate concentrations within the reference interval. Lactate concentrations above the reference interval at 0 hours were not significantly related to outcome. However, hyperlactatemia that did not improve by > or = 50% within 6 hours was significantly associated with mortality (P = .024). CONCLUSION: Dogs with a lactate concentration higher than the reference interval at 6 hours were more likely not to survive. These results indicate an association between lactate concentration and outcome and emphasize the importance of serial lactate concentrations in evaluating prognosis.  相似文献

This study investigated changes in the coagulation profile of 10 healthy female dogs subjected to ovariohysterectomy. Blood samples were collected three times--before, directly after and 24 h after surgery. Plasma samples were analyzed to determine thrombin time (TT), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), fibrinogen content, D-dimer content and antithrombin (AT) III activity. The results revealed post-operative haemostatic system disorders related to prolonged APTT, higher fibrinogen and D-dimer concentrations and lower levels of AT III activity.  相似文献

The optimal time for mating bitches was determined by measuring the progesterone concentration in peripheral blood three times a week after the start of vulval bleeding. Of 104 bitches with reduced fertility 81 (78 per cent) became pregnant and of 112 bitches with normal fertility 105 (94 per cent) became pregnant. Of 121 bitches mated once, 102 (84 per cent) became pregnant, and of 95 bitches mated more than once, 84 (88 per cent) became pregnant. The mean (+/- sd) interval between the start of vulval bleeding and the optimal time for mating in 88 bitches was 11.8 +/- 3.1 days. The blood progesterone concentration appears to be an excellent indicator of the best time for mating, particularly in bitches with reduced fertility.  相似文献
