A cat was referred for investigation of a soft tissue mass caudal to the left mandible. Initial investigations suggested a malignant salivary gland tumour, and the mass was removed by extracapsular resection of the mandibular gland. Histopathology showed an oncocytoma within the salivary gland. An oncocytoma is a neoplastic transformation of oncocytes. Oncocytes are cells with a small nucleus and intense eosinophilic granular cytoplasm due to numerous mitochondria, which proliferate during ageing in exocrine and endocrine glandular tissues. Physiological proliferation occurs next to oncocytosis, oncocytoma, and oncocytic carcinoma. This is the first report of an oncocytoma in a feline mandibular salivary gland, and the first report of long-term survival after surgical removal.  相似文献

The presence of a malignant mixed tumor, also known as a carcinosarcoma, in the salivary gland is very rare. Such tumors, which are typically aggressive, are characterized by the presence of carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. A 9-year-old neutered female domestic short-haired cat presented with swelling in the right mandibular lesion that had rapidly enlarged over the previous 3 weeks. Physical examination revealed a large, fluctuated and painless subcutaneous swelling that was associated with a firm mass. Radiographs of the head revealed a soft-tissue density that involved faint circular calcific opacity. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed that the peripheral capsulated cystic area had a contrast enhanced region without bone lysis. The cat received a total excision of the mass and postoperative radiotherapy. Histopathological analysis of the mass revealed that it was a malignant mixed tumor. Metastasis to the lung was discovered 7 weeks later, at which time treatment was stopped.  相似文献

A perianal mass in a 15-year-old domestic shorthair cat with a history of a firm, painful swelling in the left ventrolateral perianal region was surgically excised and submitted for light microscopic evaluation. Histologically, this was a poorly demarcated, unencapsulated, multilobulated neoplasm that invaded surrounding perirectal skeletal muscle bundles. Lobules were composed of sheets and acinar arrangements of cuboidal to round neoplastic epithelial cells with scant to moderate eosinophilic to amphophilic cytoplasm and a round or oval nucleus with coarse chromatin. Mitotic figures were 2 per 40 x objective field. Acinar lumina sometimes contained eosinophilic proteinaceous material or cell debris. These microscopic features are consistent with anal sac gland carcinoma. This is the second report of this neoplasm in a cat.  相似文献

A 1.5-year-old female, intact, clinically healthy cat presented for a subcutaneous mass of the ventral abdomen. Surgical excision and microscopic examination of the mass were performed. Histologically, this was a discrete, unencapsulated, multilobular, expansile mass, which compressed the surrounding normal mammary tissue. Lobules were composed of tubuloacinar structures formed by atypical round to polygonal cells, which contained foamy to microvacuolated cytoplasm and variably sized, intracytoplasmic, distinct vacuoles causing nuclear peripheralization. Neoplastic cells demonstrated intense and diffuse immunoreactivity for cytokeratin and lacked immunoreactivity for vimentin. The vacuolar contents stained positively with Oil RedO and negatively with periodic acid-Schiff and Alcian blue stains. Histomorphologic, histochemical, and immunohistochemial analysis support a diagnosis of lipid-rich mammary carcinoma. This is the first report of a cat with a lipid-rich variant of mammary carcinoma.  相似文献

This case report describes a geriatric gelding with a 2 month history of fast‐growing masses within the parotid and submandibular regions. The horse was dyspnoeic on presentation and upper airway endoscopy revealed partial airway obstruction at the level of the pharynx, secondary to a space‐occupying mass. Cytological evaluation of multiple fine‐needle aspirates obtained from the masses were suggestive of salivary gland neoplasia, therefore the horse was subjected to humane euthanasia. A computed tomographical scan was obtained post mortem and revealed a large multi‐lobulated mass involving both guttural pouches, resulting in 80% occlusion of the naso‐ and oropharynx. Histopathology confirmed a parotid salivary gland carcinoma (papillary‐cystic type). Salivary gland tumours are extremely rare in horses, with only a few cases reported in the literature. Treatment of these malignancies proves to be challenging, requiring complete parotidectomy or surgical debulkment, in combination with adjunctive therapy.  相似文献

Sarcomatous proliferation of spindle cells was present in the mammary gland and many metastatic sites in a 10-year-old female domestic cat with tubulopapillary carcinoma in the mammary gland. Transition from neoplastic tubular structures to spindle cells in the primary site and fascicular proliferation of the spindle cells with or without coexistance of tubulopapillary carcinoma in the primary and metastatic sites were observed. Most of spindle cells were positive for cytokeratin CAM5.2 as well as the normal luminal epithelium but not the myoepithelium. From these results, this case was diagnosed as tubulopapillary carcinoma with spindle cell metaplasia and it was clarified that neoplastic luminal epithelial cells can transform to sarcomatous appearence.  相似文献

A 13-year-old neutered male lion was presented with a primary neoplasm arising from the left mandibular salivary gland associated with metastases to regional lymph nodes, thoracic viscera (lungs, heart, esophagus, and diaphragm), and kidney. Histologic and immunohistochemical investigations led to a diagnosis of a high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the mandibular salivary gland. In this case report, we point out the importance of the immunohistochemical characterization for differential diagnosis between various types of carcinomas of the salivary gland.  相似文献

A 6‐year‐old Girolando dairy cow was presented for evaluation of a large subcutaneous facial mass. Fine‐needle aspirates of the mass contained many neoplastic cells with high nuclear:cytoplasmic ratios arranged in sheets and loosely cohesive clusters with streaming erythrocytes and neutrophils in the background. Neoplastic cells were 13–25 μm in diameter and were round to cuboidal with variably distinct borders. Based on the signalment, anatomic location, and cytologic findings, differential diagnoses included salivary adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The cow was euthanized and a necropsy was performed. The primary neoplasm arose from the left parotid salivary gland and meastatic tumor was found in the regional lymph nodes and lung. Histologically, the tumor was composed of anastomosing and irregular solid islets surrounded by scant stroma. Cells were negative for periodic acid‐Schiff (PAS), PAS‐diastase, and Alcian blue pH 2.5 stains, used to detect mucin. On immunohistochemical analysis, neoplastic luminal salivary gland cells expressed cytokeratin, but not S100, α‐smooth muscle actin, or vimentin. Peripheral cells of neoplastic islets were immunoreactive for p63. The final diagnosis was nonsecretory adenocarcinoma of the parotid salivary gland.  相似文献

A zygomatic salivary gland mucocele was diagnosed in a 1-year-old female domestic ferret with exophthalmos. A T-shaped incision from near the lateral canthus to the base of the ear and continuing ventrally to the level of the commissure of the mouth was made to expose the mucocele. Surgical removal was complicated by the large open orbit of the ferret, adjacent cellulitis, extension ventromedial to the globe, and difficulty in identifying important motor nerves. Vision was maintained, but slight postoperative enophthalmos and mild upper eyelid paresis developed.  相似文献

Solitary benign angiolipoma and infiltrative angiolipoma are rare tumours in dogs. Angiolipomata can be distinguished histologically from lipomata by the large number of tightly packed blood vessels seen between the adipocytes with multiple fibrin thrombi occupying some of the vessels' lumens. The dog presented with a solitary slow-growing mass in the cervical region. Histopathology revealed multifocal to coalescing single or clusters of blood-filled vessels lined by flattened endothelial cells with narrow, elongated, basophilic nuclei. These regions were embedded in adipose tissue with multifocal areas of intervascular remnants of differentiated serous salivary glandular tissue with multifocal small ducts. Fibrin thrombi occupied a few of the vessel lumens. A histological diagnosis of infiltrative angiolipoma was made. On computed tomography, the mass was bilobed with a suspected primary component involving the right parotid gland which was grossly enlarged. The mass had a slightly hypoattenuating mottled to lobulated appearance with a few hyperattenuating mineralised specks throughout. Hounsfield units of the mass ranged between 40 and 45, which was less than the 60-65 of the contralateral salivary glands and cranial musculature. Post contrast images showed no contrast enhancement of 90% of the mass with only a band of peripheral contrast uptake of the affected lateral lobe.  相似文献

Laryngeal neoplasia was diagnosed in a 5-year-old domestic shorthair cat examined for cough and gagging episodes. Resection of the mass revealed a squamous carcinoma which had invaded the deep floor of the larynx. Primary neoplasia of the feline larynx is a rare condition but needs to be distinguished from other obstructive laryngeal conditions, using radiography, laryngoscopy and biopsy.  相似文献

An eight-year-old neutered male domestic shorthalr cat had a zygomatlc salivary cyst with associated mucocele formation. A fluctuating swelling developed ventral to the right eye, causing bulging of the lower eyelid, and a corresponding swelling was present in the caudal vestibule of the oral cavity. Cytological examination of the fluid obtained from asplratlon of the swelling was consistent with the appearance of saliva. A tentative dlagnosls of zygomatlc salivary mucocele was made. Surgical exploration and resectlon of the swelling demonstrated the presence of a multliobular cystic zygomatlc salivary gland. The histopathological appearance of the resected tissue was Interpreted as an Inflammatory reaction to mucus derived from a muitllocular salivary cyst.  相似文献
