To quantify the relationship between the soil organic matter and color parameters using the CIE-Lab system, 62 soil samples (0–10 cm, Ferralic Acrisols) from tea plantations were collected from southern China. After air-drying and sieving, numerical color information and reflectance spectra of soil samples were measured under laboratory conditions using an UltraScan VIS (HunterLab) spectrophotometer equipped with CIE-Lab color models. We found that soil total organic carbon (TOC) and nitrogen (TN) contents were negatively correlated with the L* value (lightness) (r = –0.84 and –0.80, respectively), a* value (correlation coefficient r = –0.51 and –0.46, respectively) and b* value (r = –0.76 and –0.70, respectively). There were also linear regressions between TOC and TN contents with the L* value and b* value. Results showed that color parameters from a spectrophotometer equipped with CIE-Lab color models can predict TOC contents well for soils in tea plantations. The linear regression model between color values and soil organic carbon contents showed it can be used as a rapid, cost-effective method to evaluate content of soil organic matter in Chinese tea plantations.  相似文献

Because soil hydraulic properties are indispensable for determining soil water retention and soil solute movement, their input for simulation models is essential. Many of these parameters cannot be estimated directly at the scale of interest, but can only be derived through inverse modeling. During this process, the parameters are generally adjusted using least-squares approach with Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) algorithms in which numerically simulated models are fitted to measured data. In this study we used a new inverse method to estimate the unsaturated soil hydro-dispersive properties from in-situ experiments. The method employs complex-variable-differentiation method (CVDM) to accurately predict of the hydraulic properties of the van Genuchten–Mualem models (θr, θs, α, ks, n). To the knowledge of the authors, it is first study use CVDM in soil physics. The optimization procedure was performed by using a continuous data set of daily in situ soil water content and bromide concentration measurements. Estimated parameters during the inversion showed high correlation (R2 = 0.88, RMSE = 0.013 and the model efficiency CE = 0.77) by using the CVDM-methods with the actual field measurements, compared with the traditional LM-algorithm (R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 0.021 and CE = 0.626). The results show that the new inverse analysis in the present work has the high accuracy, validity, uniqueness, and higher inversion efficiency. Meanwhile, the convergence and stability of the modified LM-algorithm are improved. Overall, it was concluded that the CVDM is promising method to estimate hydro-dispersive parameters in soil physics.  相似文献

Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) are widely used for hydrological calculations based on the known basic properties of soils and sediments. The choice of predictors and the mathematical calculus are of particular importance for the accuracy of calculations. The aim of this study is to compare PTFs with the use of the nonlinear regression (NLR) and support vector machine (SVM) methods, as well as to choose predictor properties for estimating saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks). Ks was determined in direct laboratory experiments on monoliths of agrosoddy-podzolic soil (Umbric Albeluvisol Abruptic, WRB, 2006) and calculated using PTFs based on the NLR and SVM methods. Six classes of predictor properties were tested for the calculated prognosis: Ks-1 (predictors: the sand, silt, and clay contents); Ks-2 (sand, silt, clay, and soil density); Ks-3 (sand, silt, clay, soil organic matter); Ks-4 (sand, silt, clay, soil density, organic matter); Ks-5 (clay, soil density, organic matter); and Ks-6 (sand, clay, soil density, organic matter). The efficiency of PTFs was determined by comparison with experimental values using the root mean square error (RMSE) and determination coefficient (R2). The results showed that the RMSE for SVM is smaller than the RMSE for NLR in predicting Ks for all classes of PTFs. The SVM method has advantages over the NLR method in terms of simplicity and range of application for predicting Ks using PTFs.  相似文献

Purpose

The impacts of land-use change on dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) in the subsoil (>?30 cm) are poorly understood. This study aims to investigate whether the effects of land-use change on stocks and stoichiometric ratios (RCN, RCP, and RNP) of SOC, TN, and TP can be different between topsoil (0–30 cm) and subsoil (30–60 cm) in the Ili River Valley, northwest China.

Materials and methods

Soil samples (0–10, 10–20, 20–30, 30–40, 40–50, and 50–60 cm) were collected from a pasture (PT), a 27-year-old cropland (CL) converted from PT, and a 13-year-old poplar (Populus tomentosa Carr.) plantation (PP) converted from CL. SOC, TN, and TP concentrations and soil bulk density were determined to calculate stocks and stoichiometric ratios (molar ratios) of SOC, TN, and TP.

Results and discussion

Conversion from PT to CL led to substantial losses in SOC, TN, and TP pools in both topsoil and subsoil, and the reduction rates in subsoil (13.8–24.7%) were higher than those in topsoil (8.5–17.3%), indicating that C, N, and P pools in subsoil could also be depleted by cultivation. Similar to topsoil, significant increases in SOC, TN, and TP stocks were detected after afforestation on CL in subsoil, although the increase rates (31.2–56.2%) were lower than those in topsoil (47.8–69.1%). Soil pH and electrical conductivity (EC), which generally increased after conversion from PT to CL while decreased after CL afforestation, showed significant negative correlations with SOC, TN, and TP, suggesting that cultivation might lead to soil degradation, whereas afforestation contributed to soil restoration in this area. Significant changes in C:N:P ratios in topsoil were only detected for RNP after conversion from CL to PP. By contrast, land-use change significantly altered both RCN and RNP in the subsoil, demonstrating that the impacts of land-use change on RCN and RNP were different between topsoil and subsoil. The significant relationship between soil EC and RNP suggested that RNP might be a useful indicator of soil salinization.

Conclusions

Stocks of SOC, TN, and TP as well as RCN and RNP in subsoil showed different responses to land-use change compared to those in topsoil in this typical agro-pastoral region. Therefore, it is suggested that the effects of land-use change on dynamics of SOC, TN, and TP in subsoil should also be evaluated to better understand the role of land-use change in global biogeochemical cycles.

Purpose

Despite the ancillary knowledge that soil N is chiefly retained as soil organic matter, little is known about how it is affected by other soil and environmental factors, especially in the tropics. In this study, we performed a comprehensive survey of soils under native vegetation in Minas Gerais, Brazil, aiming to (a) measure soil Kjeldahl-N concentrations to a 1-m depth, (b) identify the main affecting factors of soil N retention, and (c) predict N through soil profile based on organic C (SOC) and its main conditioning factors.

Materials and methods

Soils under 36 fragments of native forest and savanna were sampled at five depths (0–10, 10–20, 20–40, 40–60, and 60–100 cm) and characterized by physical and chemical analyses, including total N determined by the micro-Kjeldahl method. Single and multivariate regressions were used to predict N concentrations based on soil properties and climatic factors.

Results and discussion

The average N concentrations ranged between 0.12 and 7.54 g kg?1, decreasing with depth, and can be predicted using SOC concentrations (R 2 = 0.86). Multivariate regressions using more input data, namely texture, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and altitude increased slightly R 2 values (0.68–0.90) for separate soil depths, but not for the whole dataset (R 2 = 0.85).

Conclusions

We demonstrated that N can be adequately predicted based on SOC concentrations, for any depth and forest type. The implications of the stable SOC/N relation and their coupled cycles and the environmental factors affecting N retention in Brazilian weathered soils are further discussed.

Fertilization is an important factor influencing the chemical structure of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil microbial communities; however, whether any connection exists between the two under different fertilization regimes remains unclear. Soils from a 27-year field experiment were used to explore potential associations between SOC functional groups and specific bacterial taxa, using quantitative multiple cross-polarization magic-angle spinning 13C nuclear magnetic resonance and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Treatments included balanced fertilization with organic materials (OM) and with nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) mineral fertilizers (NPK); unbalanced fertilization without one of the major elements (NP, PK, or NK); and an unamended control. These treatments were divided into four distinct groups, namely OM, NPK, NP plus PK, and NK plus control, according to their bacterial community composition and SOC chemical structure. Soil total P, available P, and SOC contents were the major determinants of bacterial community composition after long-term fertilization. Compared to NPK, the OM treatment generated a higher aromatic C–O and OCH3 and lower alkyl C and OCH abundance, which were associated with the enhanced abundance of members of the Acidobacteria subgroups 6 and 5, Cytophagaceae, Chitinophagaceae, and Bacillus sp.; NP plus PK treatments resulted in a higher OCH and lower aromatic C–C abundance, which showed a close association with the enrichment of unclassified Chloracidobacteria, Syntrophobacteraceae, and Anaerolineae and depletion of Bacillales; and NK plus control treatments resulted in a higher abundance of aromatic C–C, which was associated with the enhanced abundance of Bacillales. Our results indicate that different fertilization regimes changed the SOC chemical structure and bacterial community composition in different patterns. The results also suggest that fertilization-induced variations in SOC chemical structure were strongly associated with shifts in specific microbial taxa which, in turn, may be affected by changes in soil properties.  相似文献

Norfloxacin (NOR), an antibiotic widely used in livestock and poultry production, has become ubiquitous in the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems as a result of veterinary excretion of the parent compound or its active metabolites. The sorption of NOR onto humic acid (HA) may influence the fate of NOR in the environment. In the present study, HA was extracted from sewage sludge in different composting stages of days 0, 10, 30, and 70 to investigate the sorption of NOR onto HA as affected by the humification degree of HA. The results of elemental and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum analyses showed that the contents of aromatic and carboxylic groups in HA increased with composting time, indicating an increase of humification degree. The result of sorption experiments demonstrated that the HA had a high sorption capacity for NOR with strong nonlinearity. A two-stage sorption was observed in the sorption process with an equilibration time of 48 h. Both the Freundlich model (Adj. R2 range 0.988–0.994) and Langmuir model (Adj. R 2 range 0.917–0.928) fitted well with all sorption isotherms of the HA samples of different humification degrees. Moreover, the increase of sorption distribution coefficient (K d ) value with composting time indicated that the sorption affinity of HA for NOR increased with increasing humification degree of HA. The major sorption mechanism was the interaction between NOR and rich aromatic moieties and carboxylic group in the HA.  相似文献

Purpose

The USLE-MM estimates event normalized plot soil loss, Ae,N, by an erosivity term given by the runoff coefficient, QR, times the single-storm erosion index, EI30, raised to an exponent b1?>?1. This modeling scheme is based on an expected power relationship, with an exponent greater than one, between event sediment concentration, Ce, and the EI30/Pe (Pe = rainfall depth) term. In this investigation, carried out at the three experimental sites of Bagnara, Masse, and Sparacia, in Italy; the soundness of the USLE-MM scheme was tested.

Materials and methods

A total of 1192 (Ae,N, QREI30) data pairs were used to parameterize the model both locally and considering all sites simultaneously. The performances of the fitted models were established by considering all erosive events and also by distinguishing between events of different severity.

Results and discussion

The b1 exponent varied widely among the three sites (1.05–1.44) but using a common exponent (1.18) for these sites was possible. The Ae,N prediction accuracy increased in the passage from the smallest erosion events (Ae,N?≤?1 Mg ha?1, median error =?3.35) to the largest ones (Ae,N?>?10 Mg ha?1, median error =?1.72). The QREI30 term was found to be usable to predict both Ae,N and the expected maximum uncertainty of this prediction. Soil erodibility was found to be mainly controlled by the largest erosion events.

Conclusions

Development of a single USLE-MM model appears possible. Sampling other sites is advisable to develop a single USLE-MM model for a general use.

Purpose

A rapid and alternative measurement of microbial biomass in acid red soils with and without substrate incorporation is proposed for soil quality evaluation.

Materials and methods

Soil microbial biomass C (SMBC) and N (SMBN) in 24 typical red soil samples developed from two parent materials (granite and arenaceous shale) were measured using fumigation-extraction followed by dry combustion method in comparison with ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometry (increase in absorbance at 280 nm, ΔUV280). The reliability of microbial biomass estimation by UV spectrophotometry was verified using six representative red soils amended with biochar (0, 1, 3 and 5%) and glucose (0, 100, 500 and 1000 mg kg?1) separately.

Results and discussion

ΔUV280 was strongly correlated with SMBC and SMBN measured by dry combustion, regardless of biochar/glucose incorporation. Validated conversion equations from unamended soil data were dependent on confounding effects of organic C and particle size and can be described as follows: SMBC?=?27.08?×?ΔUV280 (R2?=?0.67, n?=?24) and SMBN?=?3.62?×?ΔUV280 (R2?=?0.69, n?=?24). Regression models for rapid estimation of microbial biomass in red soils from different parent materials had to be calibrated separately in case of amendments. In most cases, SMBC (R2 of 0.75–0.76 and root mean square error (RMSE) of 22.2–29.3 mg kg?1) and SMBN (R2 of 0.74–0.80 and RMSE of 2.60–14.2 mg kg?1) can be predicted from ΔUV280 in biochar/glucose-amended soils using these equations. The slope of the regression of SMBC against ΔUV280 shifted in biochar-amended granite soils, mainly due to uncoordinated changes of SMBC in response to the difference in parent material-induced nutrient availability, while shifts of SMBC (or SMBN) against ΔUV280 in glucose-amended arenaceous shale soils were attributed to particle size distribution.

Conclusions

Soil microbial biomass (SMBC and SMBN) in red soils can be rapidly predicted by fumigation-extraction with UV spectrophotometry detection and corresponding correction of calibration curves, depending on soil nutrient availability, particle size distribution and organic C levels.

Heterotrophic soil respiration (R H) and autotrophic soil respiration (R A) by a trenching method were monitored in four vegetation types in subtropical China from November 2011 to October 2012. The four vegetation types included a shrubland, a mixed-conifer, a mixed-legume, and a mixed-native species. The average R H was significantly greater in soils under the mixed-legume and the mixed-native species than in the shrubland and the mixed-conifer soils, and it affected the pattern of soil total respiration (R S) of the four soils. The change in R H was closely related to the variations of soil organic C, total N and P content, and microbial biomass C. The R A and the percentage of R S respired as R A were only significantly increased by the mixed-native species after reforestation. Probably, this depended on the highest fine root biomass of mixed-native species than the other vegetation types. Soil respiration sources were differently influenced by the reforestation due to different changes in soil chemical and biological properties and root biomass.  相似文献

Changes in the soil microbial communities and networks were monitored after planting the cover crop for 9 years. The field experiment included plots with a cover crop and without a cover crop but with weed control, and two subplots with or without chemical fertilizer (192 kg N ha?1, 108 kg P2O5 ha?1, and 168 kg K2O ha?1 each year). After applying the cover crop and chemical fertilizer for 9 years, the composition and activity of bacterial and fungal communities changed significantly (p?<?0.05), with the cover crop had greater effects than the chemical fertilizer on the composition of the soil microbial community. The relative abundances of 22 selected genera (in Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes) and two selected classes (Ascomycota) related to cover crop residue degradation increased significantly in the presence of the cover crop (p?<?0.05). Network analysis showed that the cover crop decreased the number of positive links between bacterial and fungal taxa by 25.33%, and increased the negative links by 22.89%. The positive links among bacterial taxa increased by 16.63% with the cover crop, mainly among Proteobacteria (increase of 39), Firmicutes (16), Actinobacteria (five), and Bacteroidetes (10). The links among fungal taxa were less than among bacterial taxa and were not significantly affected by cover crop. Taxa such as Thaumarchaeota, unidentified_Nitrospiraceae, unidentified_Nitrosomonadaceae, Faecalibacterium, Coprococcus_3, and Ruminococcaceae_NK4A214_group dominated the network without the cover crop but they were not dominant with the cover crop. The relative abundances of potential genes involved with the degradation of cellulose, hemicellulose, and cello-oligosaccharides increased significantly with the cover crop. Therefore, the SOC and TN contents were enhanced by the cover crop with the increase of the soil enzyme activities. Thus, the apple yield was improved by the cover crop.  相似文献

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to better understand how both the content and flux of soil carbon respond to forest succession and anthropogenic management practices in forests in subtropical China.

Materials and methods

We assembled from the literature information on soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil respiration (Rs) covering the forest successional chronosequence from pioneer masson pine (Pinus massoniana) forest (MPF) to medium broadleaf and needleleaf mixed forest (BNMF) and the climax evergreen broadleaf forest (EBF), along with the two major forest plantation types found in subtropical China, Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) forest (CFF) and Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) forest (MBF).

Results and discussion

Both SOC and Rs increased along the forest successional gradient with the climax EBF having both the highest SOC content of 33.1?±?4.9 g C kg?1(mean?±?standard error) and the highest Rs rate of 46.8?±?3.0 t CO2?ha?1 year?1. It can be inferred that when EBF is converted to any of the other forest types, especially to MPF or CFF, both SOC content and Rs are likely to decline. Stand age did not significantly impact the SOC content or Rs rate in either types of plantation.

Conclusions

Forest succession generally increases SOC content and Rs, and the conversion of natural forests to plantations decreases SOC content and Rs in subtropical China.

It is generally assumed that the sorption of a nonionic pesticide on soil depends mainly on the content of soil organic matter (SOM); however, there are other factors that can contribute to this process. The possible causes of variation in the carbon-normalized partition coefficient (K OC) for chlorpyrifos (CPF) for a diverse set of ten soils have been investigated. On the one hand, the analysis of the chemical composition of the SOM was analyzed, and on the other hand, the likely interactions between the organic matter and the mineral phase were assessed. Sorption experiments of CPF were performed on whole soil, on soils treated with 2% hydrofluoric acid (HF), and onto calcined soil at 550 °C. Organic matter chemistry of soil was determined by 13C CP/MAS NMR spectroscopy; K OC values were positively correlated with aryl C relative proportion and negatively correlated with alkyl C and O-aryl C proportions and prediction equation of K OC was found (R 2?=?0.82, p?<?0.001). To evaluate possible organo-mineral interactions, a mathematical model was proposed which calculates the concentration of CPF at equilibrium (C cal) considering adsorption coefficients for the organic (K DHF) and inorganic (K D550 °C) soil constituents, separately. The comparison between C cal and the equilibrium concentration obtained from experimental data (C exp) onto whole soil allowed us to confirm that interactions between the OM and clay affect the adsorption of CPF in whole soil. Such findings should be taken into account in the development of predictive models for the evaluation of the fate and transport of this pesticide in soil.  相似文献

Environmental pollution with chromium is due to residues of several industrial processes. Bioremediation is an alternative actually considered to remove Cr (VI) from the environment, using adapted organisms that grow in contaminated places. Have been conducted studies with fungi mechanisms of interaction with chromium, most of which have focused on processes biosorption, characterized it by passive binding of metal components of the cell surface, and bioaccumulation, wherein the metal entry to cells occurs with energy expenditure. The paper presents the results of studies carried out on sorption of chromium (VI) ions from aqueous solutions by Fusarium sp. and Myrothecium sp. Both biomasses have the ability to take up hexavalent chromium during the stationary phase of growth and as well inactive conditions. Fusarium sp. showed 26% of biosorption with active biomass and 64% in inactive biomass; meanwhile, Myrothecium sp. obtained 97 and 82%, respectively. Both fungi showed adjust to pseudo-second-order model in active (Fusarium sp. R 2 = 0.99; Myrothecium sp. R 2 = 0.96) and inactive biomass assay (Fusarium sp. R 2 = 0.99; Myrothecium sp. R 2 = 0.99). The data of the active biomass test also confirmed to the intraparticle diffusion model (Fusarium sp. R 2 = 0.98; Myrothecium sp. R 2 = 0.93). The results obtained through this investigation indicate the possibility of treating waste effluents containing hexavalent chromium using Fusarium sp. and Myrothecium sp.  相似文献

Purpose

This work investigated changes in priming effects and the taxonomy of soil microbial communities after being amended with plant feedstock and its corresponding biochar.

Materials and methods

A soil incubation was conducted for 180 days to monitor the mineralization and evolution of soil-primed C after addition of maize and its biochar pyrolysed at 450 °C. Responses of individual microbial taxa were identified and compared using the next-generation sequencing method.

Results and discussion

Cumulative CO2 showed similar trends but different magnitudes in soil supplied with feedstock and its biochar. Feedstock addition resulted in a positive priming effect of 1999 mg C kg?1 soil (+253.7 %) while biochar gave negative primed C of ?872.1 mg C kg?1 soil (?254.3 %). Linear relationships between mineralized material and mineralized soil C were detected. Most priming occurred in the first 15 days, indicating co-metabolism. Differences in priming may be explained by differences in properties of plant material, especially the water-extractable organic C. Predominant phyla were affiliated to Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadetes, Firmicutes, Planctomycetes, Proteobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, Blastocladiomycota, Chytridiomycota, Zygomycota, Euryarchaeota, and Thaumarchaeota during decomposition. Cluster analysis resulted in separate phylogenetic grouping of feedstock and biochar. Bacteria (Acidobacteria, Firmicutes, Gemmatimonadetes, Planctomycetes), fungi (Ascomycota), and archaea (Euryarchaeota) were closely correlated to primed soil C (R 2?=??0.98, ?0.99, 0.84, 0.81, 0.91, and 0.91, respectively).

Conclusions

Quality of plant materials (especially labile C) shifted microbial community (specific microbial taxa) responses, resulting in a distinctive priming intensity, giving a better understanding of the functional role of soil microbial community as an important driver of priming effect.

Purpose

There is a paucity of data regarding the multiple timescale variations of heterotrophic respiration (R H) and autotrophic respiration (R A) as well as the primary controlling factors. The objective of this study is to find the temporal variations of total soil respiration (R S) and its components, revealing the driving factors at different timescales.

Materials and methods

A trenching method was used to distinguish R S, R H, and R A in a spruce-fir valley forest in northeastern China. We used the closed dynamic chamber method to measure the soil respiration rate. Analyses of R S, R H, and R A in relation to biotic and abiotic factors were conducted to realize the temporal variations at different timescales.

Results and discussion

Only R S and R H showed a distinct diurnal variation and soil temperature (T S) can explain 68 and 59 % of the daily variation, respectively. R S, R H, and R A showed a pronounced, single peak curve seasonally, and T S can explain 11–95 % of the seasonal variation. Soil moisture (W S) maintained at a relatively high level and was not related to R S, R H, or R A on a seasonal scale, and there was no significant relationship between the seasonal R S, R A, and root biomass. However, for 5 years, only the mean R A of the growing season was significantly related to the mean W S, which can explain 39 % of the inter-annual variation of R A. The annual variations of litterfall and the relative growth rate of stems were not related to R S, R H, or R A. The contribution of R H to R S was larger, and the temperature sensitivity was 2.01–3.71 for R S, 1.90–3.08 for R H, and 2.20–5.65 for R A.

Conclusions

R S, R H, and R A show different temporal variations at multiple timescales. When W S is not restricted, T S is the primary driving factor of daily and seasonal variation of R S and R H. In this site, R H accounts for a large proportion of R S and plays a crucial role in determining the magnitude and temporal variation of R S.

Purpose

Soil acidification is universal in soybean-growing fields. The aim of our research was to evaluate the effects of soil additives (N fertilizers and biochar) on crop performance and soil quality with specific emphasis on ameliorating soil acidity.

Materials and methods

Four nitrogen treatments were applied as follows: no nitrogen (N0), urea (N1), potassium nitrate (N2), and ammonium sulfate (N3), each providing 30 kg N ha?1. Half plot area of the N1, N2, and N3 treatments was also treated with biochar (19.5 t ha?1) to form N-biochar treatments (N1C, N2C, N3C). Both bulk and rhizosphere soils were sampled separately for the following analyses: pH, exchangeable base cations (EBC), exchangeable acidity (EA), total inorganic N (IN), total N (TN), and microbial phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs). Soybean biomass and nutrient contents were also determined. Correlation analysis was applied to analyze the relationships between soil chemical properties and soybean plant parameters.

Results and discussion

With N-biochar additions (N1C, N2C, N3C), soil chemical properties changed as follows: pH increased by 0.6–1.2 units, EBC, IN, and TN increased by 175–419, 38.5–54.7, and 136–452 mg kg?1, respectively, and PLFAs increased by 23.6–40.9 nmol g?1 compared to the N0 in the rhizosphere. Microbial PLFAs had positive correlations with soil pH; EBC; exchangeable K, Ca, Na, and Mg; TN; IN; NH4 +; and NO3 ? (r?=?0.66–0.84, p?<?0.01). There were negative correlations between PLFAs and EA or exchangeable Al (r?=??0.64, ?0.66, p?<?0.01), which indicated that the additives increased microbial biomass by providing a suitable environment with less acid stress and more nutrients. The additives increased soil NH4 + and NO3 ? by promoting soil organic N mineralization and reducing NH4 + and NO3 ? leaching. Moreover, the soybean seed biomass and the nutrient contents in seeds increased with N-biochar additions, especially in the N3C treatment.

Conclusions

N-biochar additions were effective in ameliorating soil acidity, which improved the microenvironment for more microbial survival. N-biochars influenced N transformations at the plant–soil interface by increasing organic N mineralization, reducing N leaching, and promoting N uptake by soybeans. The soil additive ammonium and biochar (N3C) were best in promoting soybean growth.

The aim of this study was to investigate the burrowing activity of two earthworm species: the endogeic Drawida sinica and one undescribed Amynthas species incubated in Vertisol and Ultisol presenting different soil organic C content. Because of their contrasting feeding behaviours, we hypothesised that soil type would have a bigger influence on the burrowing activity of the endogeic than the anecic species. Repacked soil columns inoculated with earthworms for 30 days were scanned using X-ray tomography and the compiled images used to characterise the burrow systems. After scanning, the saturated hydraulic conductivity (K sat) was also measured. The Amynthas species burrows were less numerous (30 vs. 180), more vertically oriented (57 vs. 37°), more connected from the surface to the bottom of the columns (73 vs. 5 cm3) and had a higher global connectivity index (83 vs. 28%) than those of D. sinica. The K sat was threefold faster in columns incubated with Amynthas and was linked to the volume of percolating burrows (R 2 = 0.81). The soil type did not influence Amynthas burrow characteristics. In contrast, there were 30% more D. sinica burrows in the Vertisol than in the Ultisol while other burrow characteristics were not affected. This result suggests that these burrows were more refilled with casts leading to shorter and discontinuous burrows. The K sat was negatively related to the number of burrows (R 2 = 0.44) but was not statistically different between the Vertisol and the Ultisol, suggesting a constant impact of this species on the K sat. We found that a decrease in the amount of soil organic C by 50% had only a small influence on earthworm burrowing activity and no effect on the K sat.  相似文献

We evaluated the impact of exponential fertilization in nursery and weed removal in the field on growth and nitrogen (N) retranslocation and uptake from the soil of jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.) seedlings planted on an oil sands reclaimed soil. Exponential fertilization is a method of supplying nutrients at an exponential rate to achieve constant internal nutrient concentrations in seedlings without changing their size during their growth in the nursery. The N retranslocation in seedlings was traced using 15N isotope labeling. Exponential fertilization increased nutrient reserve in the seedling in nursery production, and increased height (P = 0.003), root collar diameter (P < 0.001), total biomass (P < 0.001), and N content (P < 0.001) of seedlings at the end of first growing season in the field growth. Conventionally fertilized seedlings allocated a greater percent of biomass to roots than to current-year needles. The 15N isotope analysis showed that 59 to 82% of total N demand of new growth was met by retranslocation from old tissues. Exponential fertilization increased N retranslocation by 147% (P < 0.001) and N uptake from the soil by 175% (P = 0.012). Weed removal marginally increased (P = 0.077) N uptake from the soil but decreased (P = 0.046) N retranslocation with no net effect on total N content in new tissues. We conclude that exponential fertilization improves the early growth of jack pine and can help improve revegetation in reclaiming disturbed oil sands sites.  相似文献

Bio-fertilizer application has been proposed as a strategy for enhancing soil fertility, regulating soil microflora composition, and improving crop yields, and it has been widely applied in the agricultural yields. However, the application of bio-fertilizer in grassland has been poorly studied. We conducted in situ and pot experiments to investigate the practical effects of different fertilization regimes on Leymus chinensis growth, with a focus on the potential microecological mechanisms underlying the responses of soil microbial composition. L. chinensis biomass was significantly (P?<?0.05) increased by treatment with 6000 kg ha?1 of Trichoderma bio-fertilizer compared with other treatments. We found a positive (R2 =?0.6274, P <?0.001) correlation between bacterial alpha diversity and L. chinensis biomass. Hierarchical cluster analysis and nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) revealed that soil bacterial and fungal community compositions were all separated according to the fertilization regime used. The relative abundance of the most beneficial genera in bio-fertilizer (BOF) (6000 kg ha?1Trichoderma bio-fertilizer) was significantly higher than in organic fertilizer (OF) (6000 kg ha?1 organic fertilizer) or in CK (non-amend fertilizer), there the potential pathogenic genera were reduced. There were significant negative (P?<?0.05) correlations between L. chinensis biomass and the relative abundance of several potential pathogenic genera. However, the relative abundance of most beneficial genera were significantly (P?<?0.05) positively correlated with L. chinensis biomass. Soil properties had different effects on these beneficial and on these pathogenic genera, further influencing L. chinensis biomass.  相似文献
