In an effort to expand the spectrum of larvicides effective againstLiriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard), the effect of spinosad was studied on the mortality of the leafminer under laboratory conditions. Bean plants infested with various leafminer stages (egg through third instar) were treated by dipping leaves in a liter of water containing 24, 48 or 96 mg a.i. spinosad or by drenching the soil of plants with 200 ml of water containing 12 mg, 24 mg or 48 mg a.i. spinosad. In general, leaf dipping was more efficacious and adverse effects were observed sooner than with soil drench. All concentrations of spinosad significantly reduced the number of adults that emerged except leaf dip of third instar; only the highest concentration caused significant reduction of pupae and adults. In an effort to expand the spectrum of larvicides effective against the pea leafminer,Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard), we studied the effects of a neem-based insecticide (Neemix-45) on the development of the leafminer under laboratory conditions. Bean plants were treated with a soil drench of 1, 5, 10 or 25 ppm azadirachtin or by dipping leaves in 1 or 15 ppm azadirachtin at various times before or during the development of the leafminer. Treating the plants with the neem insecticide before exposure to egg-laying adults had a greater effect on inhibiting the development of pupae and adult eclosion than treatment at the 1st-instar larval stage. The systemic effects from a soil drench had a greater adverse effect on pupation and adult eclosion than leaf dipping. Drenching plants with 1 ppm azadirachtin 24 h before exposure to adults had a greater effect (0% adult eclosion) than leaf dipping at the same time period and concentration (15. 6% adult eclosion). Similar results were obtained when drenching plants infested with lst-instar larvae with 1 ppm azadirachtin (11. 7% eclosion)vs dipping leaves at the same time period and concentration (44. 7% eclosion).  相似文献

Increasing international trade in plants has resulted in repeated import of foreign pests into Belgium; Opogona sacchari and Coccotrypes dactyliperda are well known examples. Recently two new pests have been introduced into Belgium, Frankliniella occidentalis and Liriomyza huidobrensis. The thrips F. occidentalis appeared in the summer of 1987, and was first found in chrysanthemums. At present, this insect can be observed in floriculture, as well as in vegetable growing, where it occurs on a wide range of host plants. F. occidentalis is now considered definitely established in glasshouses in Belgium. At the end of 1989, the leafminer L. huidobrensis was found for the first time in Belgium. The damage was observed on chrysanthemums and lettuce. In 1990, this leafminer also attacked other crops, especially tomatoes and celery. Its distribution is still limited, as is the damage it causes.  相似文献

The pea leafminer,Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard), recently introduced into Israel, has proven to be extremely proliferous and difficult to control. It is a much more serious pest of vegetable and flower crops than the previously introducedLiriomyza trifolii (Burgess). Photosynthesis is reduced and cosmetic damage is incurred when adult flies stipple plant leaves with feeding punctures and larvae mine the leaves. BACKGROUND: Recently, the leafminer Cameraria ohridella Deschka & Dimic has caused heavy damage to the white‐flowering horse chestnut in Europe. Among the Aesculus genus, A. pavia L. HBT genotype, characterised by red flowers, showed an atypical resistance towards this pest. Its leaves, shaken in water, originated a dense foam, indicating the presence of saponins, unlike the common horse chestnut tree. The aim was to isolate and identify these leaf saponins and test their possible defensive role against C. ohridella. RESULTS: Spectroscopic analyses showed that A. pavia HBT genotype leaves contained a mixture of saponins, four of which were based on the same structure as commercial escin saponins, the typical saponin mixture produced by A. hippocastanum and accumulated only within bark and fruit tissues. The mixture showed a repellent effect on C. ohridella moth. The number of mines detected on the leaves of A. hippocastanum plants treated with A. pavia HBT saponins through watering and stem brushing was significantly lower than the control, and in many cases no mines were ever observed. CONCLUSION: The results showed that the exogenous saponins were translocated from roots/stem to the leaf tissues, and their accumulation seemed to ensure an appreciable degree of protection against the leafminer. Extensive surveys of vegetable, ornamental and weedy plant species were conducted in highland and lowland vegetable production areas in Indonesia with the aim of recording leafminer species present and their associated natural enemies. The most common dipterous species reared from samples was the pea leafminer, Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard) (Diptera: Agromyzidae). This introduced pest was particularly serious in highland vegetables in Java, Sumatra and South Sulawesi, causing yield losses as high as 60-70%. Another alien species, the vegetable leafminer, Liriomyza sativae Blanchard, contributed to problems in lowland areas on the north coast of West Java, where cucumbers were heavily damaged. An Asian leafminer species, Chromatomyia horticola Goureau, was more common in snow peas (Pisum sp.). Intensive sampling of leafminer-infested leaves from surveyed host plants yielded 11 species of hymenopteran parasitoids: 10 eulophids (Asecodes sp., Chrysocharis sp., Cirrospilus ambiguus (Hansson and LaSalle), Closterocerus sp., Hemiptarsenus varicornis (Girault), Neochrysocharis formosa (Westwood), Neochrysocharis sp., Pnigalio sp., Quadrastichus sp., Zagrammosoma sp.) and 1 eucoilid (Gronotoma sp.). The most abundant parasitoid species was H. varicornis. Levels of parasitism varied among crops and growing seasons, but were usually low, especially on potato (< 3%). Surveys revealed that most farmers (63%) attempted to control leafminers by applying insecticides twice weekly although these applications were neither effective nor economical according to responses of about 72% of the farmers. An integrated pest management approach is suggested that emphasizes IPM training for vegetable farmers and includes reductionor elimination of broad spectrum chemicals that would adversely affect parasitoids that may already be present as well as those that may be introduced. The initiation of a classical biological control programme is recommended to enhance the limited parasitoid complex present in Indonesia and increase levels of biological control.  相似文献

Downy mildew caused by the oomycete Hyaloperonospora parasitica (formerly Peronospora parasitica) is a worldwide foliar disease of Brassica vegetables, which may cause seedling loss in the nurseries and damage to adult plants in the field. Disease symptoms start from the lower leaves and progress upwards. Three experiments were conducted under controlled environment conditions, using inoculated leaf discs, to determine the influence of leaf position, plant age, and leaf age on the expression of resistance to downy mildew in various Brassica oleracea genotypes. The upper leaves were more resistant than the lower leaves when 7–19 week-old plants of broccoli and Tronchuda cabbage were tested. Broccoli lines ‘PCB21.32’ and ‘OL87123-2’ were fully susceptible at the cotyledon stage, showed a clear resistance increase from lower to upper leaves at 6 weeks and ‘PCB21.32’ was fully resistant 16 weeks after sowing. Immature leaves were more resistant than adjacent fully expanded mature leaves. Susceptibility increased with leaf age when the same leaf was tested at two to 4-week intervals. Leaf age and upper-leaf position on the stem had opposite effects on disease score, since younger leaves collected from lower positions and older leaves collected from upper positions tended to score similarly in compatible interactions. The progression of downy mildew from the base of the plant upwards on B. oleracea in the field could be due to differences in leaf resistance in addition to environmental variation. To maximise the expression of a compatible reaction in adult plants lower leaves of Brassica plants that are at least 12 weeks-old should be used.  相似文献

In autumn 2007, an allium leafminer, Phytomyza gymnostoma Loew (Diptera: Agromyzidae), was recorded for the first time in non‐commercial leek crops in the areas of Elassona and Katerini in Central Greece. Leek plants were severely damaged by the leafminer larvae infestation. Typical feeding symptoms were observed, caused by the mining behaviour of larvae within inner and outer leaves of leek plants, resulting in the formation of descending galleries. Pest control was performed locally using commercial insecticides with unknown efficacy mainly due to ignorance of the species biology.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Feeding assays using adult rice water weevils and foliage of plants treated as seeds with chlorantraniliprole and thiamethoxam at different rates were conducted to evaluate the systemic adulticidal and feeding effects. Dose–mortality relationships were determined for thiamethoxam seed treatments by combining leaf area lost due to feeding and insecticide residues analyzed by LC/MS/MS. Changes in adulticidal activity of thiamethoxam were also investigated by contrasting adult mortalities at the 5–6‐leaf and tillering stages of rice. RESULTS: Adult weevil mortalities and leaf consumption rates on foliage were affected in thiamethoxam but not in chlorantraniliprole treatments when rice was at the 6–7‐leaf stage. The LD50 for weevils feeding on thiamethoxam‐treated rice at the 2–3‐leaf stage was 447 pg insecticide weevil?1 (95% CL: 25–830 pg weevil?1) but was lower (142 pg weevil?1; 95% CL: 102–180 pg weevil?1) in experiments with 3–4‐leaf‐stage plants. Mortalities on leaves from 5–6‐leaf‐stage plants were consistently higher than on leaves from tillering plants. Thiamethoxam residues measured by ELISA increased with seed treatment rate and differed between plant stages. CONCLUSION: The LD50 values developed in this study are the first values for leaf‐feeding insects on foliage of plants treated as seeds with thiamethoxam. The attrition of adulticidal activity of thiamethoxam in foliage of older plants may help to explain the reduced effectiveness of seed treatments against rice water larvae that is seen at later stages of rice growth in field studies. The differential activity of these two seed treatments on adults suggests that adult mortality contributes to the field efficacy of thiamethoxam but not to that of chlorantraniliprole. 为明确玉米和甘蔗间作对亚洲玉米螟产卵行为的影响,在尼龙网室研究了亚洲玉米螟在玉米和甘蔗不同种植模式下的产卵时间、产卵部位及产卵量的差异。结果表明,不同种植模式下亚洲玉米螟均于23∶00开始产卵,02∶00~03∶00达产卵高峰。单作甘蔗、单作玉米和间作甘蔗叶背的玉米螟卵块和卵粒数均高于叶面,而间作玉米叶背与叶面的玉米螟卵块数无显著差异,叶背的卵粒数高于叶面。单作玉米叶脉的玉米螟卵块和卵粒数均显著高于叶缘;间作玉米和单作甘蔗叶脉与叶缘卵块数间无差异,但叶脉处卵粒数高于叶缘,间作甘蔗叶脉的卵块数高于叶缘,叶缘卵粒数高于叶脉。单作甘蔗叶背的亚洲玉米螟卵块主要分布在距叶鞘69.14 cm处,而叶面的卵块主要分布在距叶鞘21.09 cm处;间作甘蔗叶背和叶面卵块分布于距叶鞘35.17 cm和12.34 cm处,二者差异显著。单作玉米上亚洲玉米螟卵块仅分布于叶背沿叶脉远离叶鞘处,而间作玉米叶背和叶面卵块分布于近叶鞘。表明玉米和甘蔗间作对亚洲玉米螟雌蛾产卵选择性具有明显的影响。  相似文献

Wild oat (Avena fatua L.) plants sprayed at the 2-or 3-leaf stages of growth with diclotop-methyl developed chlorosis over the entire leaf blade of all leaves. The leaves became necfrotic 7days after spraying Shool growth was inhibited. In wheat (Triticum aesicum L cv.Waldron) discrete chlorotic areas developed only where the herbicide convicted the 2nd or 3rd leaf with no visible injury so new growth uf'ter treutment. Growth inhibition of susceptible oat (Avena sativa L. cv. Garry) was sensitive to placement of diclutop-methyl near the upica and meristematic sites of the plant. Chlorosis and necrosis were independent of herbicide placement. Selective herbicide placement induced chlorosis only or both chlorosis and growth inhibition Root growth in wild oat and barley (Hordeum rulgare L. cv. Dickson) was strongly inhibited by 1–0 μM diclofop-methyl. Wild oat shoots were killed when seedlings were root-treated with 10 μM diclofop-melhyl. The 100 μM rool treatment killed barley shoots but only stunted the growth of wheat shoots by approximately 50%. In root-ireated wheat plants the shoots were turgid and developed a light purple colour, whereas in foliar-treated plants the shoots developed discrete chlorotic areas.  相似文献

Residues of the insect growth regulator diflubenzuron were quantified on horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) leaves treated with a diflubenzuron 480 g litre?1 SC, Dimilin. To analyse the samples, an analytical procedure was developed involving a simple extraction step followed by high‐performance liquid chromatography on an octadecyl‐modified silica column with methanol + 0.01 M ammonium acetate mobile phase. The results showed diflubenzuron to be highly stable on horse chestnut leaves; more than 4 months (127 days) after application, 38% (on average) of the insecticide still remained on/in the leaves. The data confirmed biological observations showing diflubenzuron's long‐term efficacy against the horse chestnut leafminer, Cameraria ohridella Deschka & Dimi?, which is the most important pest of the horse chestnut in Europe. Abstract

Greenhouse experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of organic amendments and captafol on the parasitic potential of Paecilomyces lilacinus (Thom) Samson against Meloidogyne incognita in sterile field soil. Tomato cv. Moneymaker plants were used as a host. Organic matter from Tagetes minuta L., Ricinus communis L. and Datura strammonium L. stimulated egg parasitism, while the fungicide captafol inhibited it. Galling intensity and the population of juveniles were significantly lower in soils amended with organic matter. However, no significant differences were detected among the different organic additives. The amended soils supported plants with significantly heavier shoots and roots. The implications of these results on the management of root‐knot nematodes are discussed.  相似文献

为明确李树上新纪录害虫北亚脉扁蜂Neurotoma sibirica的生物学特性,通过田间调查和室内饲养观察,记述该虫的形态特征、生活史及生物学特性。结果表明,北亚脉扁蜂在吉林省吉林市1年发生1代,以老熟幼虫在树下5~15 cm深的土层中做土室越冬。每年4月中旬幼虫开始化蛹,5月上旬成虫羽化出土,5月中旬为成虫盛期,成虫产卵从5月上旬持续到5月下旬,单雌产卵量为13~43粒,卵期5~9 d。6月上旬为北亚脉扁蜂幼虫为害盛期,幼虫为6龄或7龄,幼虫期14~21 d,6月中、下旬老熟幼虫陆续入土越冬。北亚脉扁蜂幼虫在李、紫叶李、杏、榆叶梅4种寄主上均可完成发育,在自然条件下李树受害率可达100%,紫叶李树受害率为40%,杏树受害率为20%。北亚脉扁蜂天敌有龟纹瓢虫Propylea japonica、异色瓢虫Harmonia axyridis、斯马蜂Polistes snelleni、日本弓背蚁Camponotus japonicus、2种姬蜂及1种病原菌。  相似文献

Inhibition of photosynthesis by metamitron in the rooting medium and its subsequent recovery after transfer of the roots to herbicide-free nutrient solution was measured in eight plant species. Fast and complete recovery within a few hours after treatment showed that metamitron, once absorbed, was rapidly and completely inactivated in the leaves of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Inactivation in perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) was slower and incomplete. It was low in Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) P.B., Amaranthus retroflexus L., Alopecurus myosuroides Huds. and bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), and undetectable in maize (Zea mays L.) and Portulaca oleracea L. From the transpiration rate and the concentration of metamitron in the nutrient solution that just did not cause inhibition of photosynthesis in sugar beet, uptake and inactivation rates per unit leaf area were calculated to be at least 18·5 ng/cm2/h. The same external concentration markedly depressed photosynthesis in the other more susceptible species. After leaf sprays sugar beet plants gradually resumed the normal rate of photosynthesis, but bean plants did not recover.  相似文献

Abstract

Heliothis armigera (Hbn.) eggs on cotton tended to be placed on flat parts such as leaf laminas and bracts at the expense of linear parts such as stems, petioles and peduncles, which accounted for less than 3% of eggs in samples of 100–216 eggs. Numbers of eggs on bracts and leaves respectively rose and fell from 0% and 97% at 34 days after planting to 81% and 18% at 104 days; the levels were equal at 49% on day 83. Categorisation of leaves by stage of development showed that 80–90% of all leaf‐laid eggs were found on leaves at the ‘young’ to ‘soft‐expanded’ stages of development while categorisation by position showed that the first three leaves from the top of the stem received 90% of all leaf‐laid eggs. There was no consistent trend for egg laying on main‐stem or lateral stem leaves and over 97% were located on the upper (adaxial) leaf surface. Bracts of larger buds (more than 50% developed) were most favoured as sites for egg laying, but oviposition on bracts of bolls had overtaken that on buds by day 97. These preliminary, small‐scale investigations should be extended so that possibilities for the use of an integrated sample unit for eggs and small larvae can be assessed.  相似文献

Dipping leaf strips of greenhouse or field-grown tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L., cv. Ky-14) plants into acetone for 1 s, prior to inoculation with sporangia of Peronospora tabacina Adam, increased their susceptibility to blue mold. Disease severity and sporangial production on leaf discs from acetone-treated leaves were markedly increased compared to those on discs from untreated leaves. Treatment with acetone also decreased variation in susceptibility of leaves from plants of various ages. Disease severity on discs obtained from attached leaves which were dipped in acetone for 1 s was three times greater up to 15 days after dipping than on discs from leaves that were not dipped. TLC and GLC analyses of the acetone extracts indicated that 95% or more of the major cuticular diterpenoids, α- and β-4,8,13-duvatriene-1,3-diols (DVT), were removed from the surface by dipping for 1 s. These compounds had not reappeared on the leaf surface 15 days after leaves were dipped in acetone for 1 s. Aqueous suspensions of the acetone-soluble constituents as well as authentic DVT, inhibited sporangial germination of P. tabacina (ED100 = 25 ppm) and the antifungal activity was accounted for by DVT. When DVT was removed from a leaf surface and added back to the same leaf strip, the resistance of the leaf tissue was restored. As tobacco plants aged, their susceptibility to blue mold decreased and the quantity of DVT on the leaf surface increased. The data support a role for DVT in the resistance of tobacco against blue mold.  相似文献

本研究调查了草地贪夜蛾卵块在田间玉米植株上的空间分布,发现草地贪夜蛾卵块主要分布于植株中部,即玉米小喇叭口期倒3叶与倒4叶、吐丝期倒5叶与倒6叶上卵块最多,在小喇叭口期主要分布在叶正面,吐丝期主要分布于叶背面,距叶尖平均距离分别为23.4 cm和35.2 cm。为玉米上草地贪夜蛾卵的调查和防治提供了参考。  相似文献
