Seasonal occurrence of the common cutworm Spodoptera litura (Fab.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) moths captured in synthetic sex pheromone traps and associated field population of eggs and larvae in soybean were examined in India from 2009 to 2011. Male moths of S. litura first appeared in late July or early August and continued through October. Peak male trap catches occurred during the second fortnight of September, which was within soybean reproductive stages. Similarly, the first appearance of S. litura egg masses and larval populations were observed after the first appearance of male moths in early to mid-August, and were present in the growing season up to late September to mid-October. The peak appearance of egg masses and larval populations always corresponded with the peak activity of male moths recorded during mid-September in all years. Correlation studies showed that weekly mean trap catches were linearly and positively correlated with egg masses and larval populations during the entire growing season of soybean. Seasonal means of male moth catches in pheromone traps during the 2010 and 2011 seasons were significantly lower than the catches during the 2009 season. However, seasonal means of the egg masses and larval populations were not significantly different between years. Pheromone traps may be useful indicators of the onset of numbers of S. litura eggs and larvae in soybean fields.  相似文献

Mark–release–recapture trials with male western corn rootworm Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) beetles were conducted to better understand capture data of pheromone traps produced in Europe during monitoring programmes. Median recapture rate in maize fields in Hungary, Italy and Switzerland was 10%. Two types of sex pheromone trap (sticky sheet and non‐sticky container traps), placed inside or outside maize fields, showed no differences in efficiency. Logit analyses of recapture data in maize showed that at distances of <1 m fewer than 20% of beetles ended up in the traps. A beetle in a 1 ha maize field would have about a 5% chance of being caught in a trap placed in the centre of the field.  相似文献

Biorational and regular insecticide applications were evaluated for management of the diamondback moth (DBM) Plutella xylostella in cabbage (Brassica oleracea var capitata) in Karnataka State, India, in 1996 and 1997. The IPM programme, based on the pheromone trap catch threshold of eight moths per trap per night, included utilization of the parasitoid Cotesia plutellae. (250 000 adults ha−1), the predator Chrysoperla carnea (2500 eggs ha−1), the neem‐based chemical nimbecidine (625 ml ha−1), the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (500 ml ha−1), and the synthetic insecticide phosalone (2.8 litre ha−1). The IPM programme induced a reduction of trap catches, egg and larval populations and, therefore, a low level of damage to the crop. The economic analysis showed that the cost of the IPM treatments was also considerably lower than that of ordinary insecticide practice (average of $62 relative to $123 ha−1, respectively). Gross profit was also clearly higher in IPM plots than in farmer's fields, ranging from $777 to $810 ha−1 in the IPM plots compared with $456 to $462 ha−1 in the insecticide‐treated fields. As a consequence of lower input costs and higher gross profit, net profit in IPM treatments was even more favourable, and the economic savings associated with the utilization of the IPM programme amounted to $380 ha−1 in 1996 and $410 ha−1 in 1997. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Field trials were conducted in cabbage (Brassica oleracea var capitata), cauliflower (B oleracea var botrytis) and knol khol (B oleracea gongylodes) crops at two different locations in Karnataka State (India) to optimize the timing of insecticide applications to control the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, using sex pheromone traps. Our results indicate that applications of cartap hydrochloride as insecticide during a 12–24 h period after the pheromone traps had caught on average 8, 12 and 16 males per trap per night in cabbage, cauliflower and knol khol, respectively, were significantly more effective than regular insecticide sprays at 7, 9, 12 or 15 days after transplantation. This was demonstrated by estimation of the mean number of eggs and larvae per plant, the percentage of holes produced, as well as the marketable yield of the three crops at each location. A good correlation between the immature stages, infestation level, the estimated crop yield and the number of moths caught in pheromone traps was also found, indicating the usefulness of pheromone‐based monitoring traps to predict population densities of the pest. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The efficacy and species specifity of two commercial sticky traps (Ekolex-V and Trappit-Lo Line) were compared in field tests in a multistorey restaurant complex in CZ. Traps were tested under high population density ofblatta orientalis L. (BO) andBlattella germanica (L.) (BG). We found species specific differences in trapping efficiency between the two traps. There was a high correlation between visually estimated counts and actual catches of BG and BO in Trappit. The correlation in Ekolex catches was lower (BG: r=0.86, BO: r=0.58). Nymph/adult ratio increased with increasing population density in both Trappit and Ekolex traps. Although both types of traps reflected differences in population density, we found Trappit more efficient than Ekolex especially forBlatta orientalis. Estimated Trappit/Ekolex ratio of BG catches decreased with increasing population density showing Trappit more sensitive. Trapping sensitivity at low cockroach density was proposed as a standard criterion for evaluation of cockroach trap efficiency.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Greenhouse whiteflies, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood), are notorious pests that, through the reduction of crop yields and excretion of honeydew, cause significant economic losses for sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) growers. Chemical and biological controls are the two most common forms of whitefly management in greenhouses. Consequently, insecticide resistance and inadequate control have rejuvenated interest in alternative tactics. In the present study, whitefly responses to trap crops (eggplant and squash) and yellow sticky traps were compared in order to identify the most effective traps for dispersing and resident adults. RESULTS: Results indicated that yellow sticky traps were most effective at trapping adult whiteflies. Significantly more dispersing whiteflies were recorded on eggplant than on squash trap crops. None of the traps significantly reduced adult populations on the main crops (peppers) compared with the control. However, yellow sticky traps did significantly reduce oviposition on peppers. CONCLUSIONS: Adult whiteflies were most effectively trapped on yellow sticky traps followed by eggplant trap crops. Further study of whitefly trapping using visual cues may enhance trapping management. Specifically, research combining yellow sticky traps with other control strategies is recommended. Pheromone traps were reliable for detection and estimation ofEarias insulana (Boisduval) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) adult populations in cotton fields. Due to the aggregated distribution in traps, estimates of moth populations were more accurate at low than at high population levels. The relationship betweenE. insulana male catch and larval density could not be assessed because of the numerous chemical treatments applied to the cotton fields. However, when chemical applications were avoided, an increase in male catch was followed by an increase in larval density. SinceE. insulana eggs are difficult to detect and the larvae penetrate the cotton bolls soon after hatching and are therefore hard to control, pheromone traps are particularly useful as a warning device for potential larval infestation.

Abstract

Tests were made using coloured sticky traps to determine trap efficacy in catching adult Myndus crudus Van Duzee (Homoptera, Cixiidae) under field conditions. Blue traps caught more M. crudus adults than any of the other colour traps tested. Blue traps caught adults of both sexes during the day and night although significantly more adults were caught during the day. A sampling bias was shown in that blue traps caught significantly more males than expected from the field population. Blue sticky traps were more effective at sampling adult M. crudus populations than previous sampling techniques based on host plant attractiveness and should be considered for use in future sampling.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Field trapping experiments were carried out to evaluate effective trap characteristics for maximising Ips duplicatus (Sahlberg) catches in pheromone‐baited traps in China. RESULTS: Window‐slot and cross‐barrier traps had significantly higher catches than multiple‐funnel traps. The colour of window‐slot traps showed a significant effect on catches, with dark colours (black and red) being more effective than light colours, especially white and yellow. Window‐slot traps at a 1.5–2.0 m level caught more beetles than those at either ground level (0–0.5 m) or at 3.5–4.0 m. Ips duplicatus can be attracted to pheromone‐baited traps over a distance of > 100 m from the forest edge in an open grassy field. There was a strong diurnal pattern of flight activity, with catches on window‐slot traps occurring during the daytime with one broad peak at mid‐ to late afternoon. The seasonal flight activity of I. duplicatus as monitored by pheromone‐baited window‐slot traps during 2007–2008 indicated that three major flight peaks occurred in early June, late June–early July and late July respectively, suggesting the existence of a potential second generation. CONCLUSION: The optimal trap characteristics will improve the performance of pheromone‐baited traps as a critical monitoring or mass‐trapping tool to combat outbreaks of this pest species. This study provided information on periods of peak trapping for the potato tubermoth (Phthorimaea operculella) in potato fields and in storage facilities in the Niayes area of Senegal. Delta sticky traps baited with P. operculella synthetic pheromone, IT053 ISCA lure, were used to monitor adult male moth populations in 2011 and 2012. In each trapping year, four peaks were observed with the maximum number of moths recorded in February, 2012. A Weibull regression model was developed to predict the incidence of P. operculella in potato fields using the number of male adults caught in pheromone-baited traps. The Weibull model provided a good fit to percentage cumulative mean trap catches for both 2011 and 2012 (R2 = 0.99; P < 0.0001). Based on the Weibull models for the sampling periods in 2011 and 2012, 50% of cumulative mean number of moths were trapped by day 85 (26 March) in both years, 63.2% (= α) were trapped by day 103 and 104 (13 April and 14 April), and 95% were trapped by day 179 and 190 (28 June and 9 July), respectively. Male moths continued to be trapped after potatoes were harvested, but the numbers decreased compared to captures before harvest. This information will be useful for predicting the most appropriate times to institute intervention measures to mitigate damage to potatoes by the moth. Laboratory investigation revealed that abandoned tubers in the field were the source of sustained incidence of the moth on farms following the harvesting of potatoes. The number of male moths trapped in stores tapered with the number of weeks the bagged tubers stayed in storage.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Bruchus rufimanus is a serious pest of field beans. The objective here was to develop a semiochemical‐baited trapping system to facilitate monitoring of the pest. RESULTS: Volatile compounds that were electrophysiologically active with the antennae of B. rufimanus females were identified from headspace samples of Vicia faba flowers and from male B. rufimanus. Selected headspace samples and synthetic compounds were tested in olfactometer bioassays. The semiochemicals were then formulated in lures for traps and evaluated in a field trapping experiment. Cone traps baited with a three‐component blend of floral volatiles, releasing (R)‐linalool (17.7 mg day?1), cinnamyl alcohol (0.4 mg day?1) and cinnamaldehyde (0.77 mg day?1), caught significantly more of both sexes of B. rufimanus than unbaited control traps. A male volatile, 1‐undecene, was EAG active with female antennae. It was attractive to females in an olfactometer, indicating that it is a sex pheromone. However, in the field it only enhanced trap catches if it was released together with the floral volatiles. CONCLUSION: The blends of semiochemicals identified were shown to be attractive in cone traps under field conditions. Abstract

The relationship between the catch of male Spodoptera litura (F.) moths in sex pheromone‐baited traps and the number of egg‐masses in groundnut crop at the International Crops Research Institute for Semi‐Arid Tropics Centre Patancheru, India was examined during the post‐rainy season of 1983. Significant positive correlations were found between the number of egg‐masses and the total number of male moths caught during the 7 days preceding the egg‐mass count. 75% of the variance in the egg‐mass counts and pheromone trap catches could be accounted for by the regression.  相似文献

2004-2006年连续3年应用佳多自动虫情测报灯和传统普通黑光灯对草地螟种群监测和诱杀结果表明,两种诱虫灯均可有效监测草地螟种群动态,自动虫情测报灯对高密度草地螟种群诱杀效果显著,诱蛾量明显高于普通黑光灯的,而普通黑光灯对低密度种群诱杀较为有效。两种灯光诱捕器监测的草地螟种群动态变化趋势基本一致,每天诱蛾数呈极显著相关(r2004=0.973、r2005=0.990和r2006=0.981,p<0.01),但黑光灯下草地螟种群始见期较早而终见期较晚。两种灯下诱捕的草地螟雌蛾数均大于雄蛾数,但灯光诱捕器之间诱捕的草地螟雌雄性比差别不大。  相似文献

From 2009/2010 to 2010/2011, flight patterns and spatial distribution of pea aphids were studied in northwestern Ethiopia. Yellow traps were used and legume fields sampled. Trap catches varied between years (lower in 2009/2010 than in 2010/2011), locations and months in the growing season. At Woreta, peaks were observed in January (20–70 per trap) and at Wondata in October and November (60–80 per trap). Also, pea aphid numbers were more on fallow land than on other land-use systems (a maximum of 41,000 in December 2010/2011 and 25,000 in January 2009/2010 per 100 plants). Taylor's power law coefficients, i.e., b values, were significantly greater than 1 on grass peas planted after fallow; the corresponding r2 values ranged between 0.87 and 0.94. Coefficients were inconsistent on grass peas planted after teff and undersown in maize. The optimum sample size n (number of yellow traps) required in relation to the mean densities of the pea aphid was more or less the same for the three levels of accuracy (D = 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5). At D = 0.5, numerical sample size curves showed 10 traps as mean number of aphids per trap approached 4 or 5, which is practical and affordable. Some additional work at more locations may be required to validate these sampling plans before wider use.  相似文献

Abstract

One‐week‐old traps made from split banana pseudostems were 1.5–1.7‐fold more attractive to adult banana weevils than 2–3‐week‐old traps. In one experiment, all available pseudostem material was used for trapping, and weekly collecting of weevils over an 11‐month trapping period led to a 50% reduction in weevil catches in one field. In another field with a lower initial weevil density the trapping did not reduce weevil populations. In another experiment, the effect of intensive use of pseudostem traps and daily collecting of trapped weevils was estimated by a mark and recapture method over a period of 6 weeks. Reductions in weevil densities were calculated using a modified version of the Lincoln‐Index. Weevil populations were reduced by 48.5% after 3 weeks and by 62.5% after 6 weeks. Trapping efficiency declined during the experiment and appeared to be related to weevil population densities. This cultural control system may be effective in weevil control in small‐farm situations where labour availability is not a limiting factor.  相似文献

为开发一种新型的橘大实蝇诱捕器,研究了不同颜色、直径的诱杀球和不同颜色的粘虫板对橘大实蝇的诱集效果。结果表明,绿色诱杀球的诱杀数量显著大于黄色和黄绿色诱杀球(P0.05);诱杀球上橘大实蝇的诱集数量,随诱杀球直径的增大而显著增加,但在直径7cm以上时,诱杀球的诱集数量增速变缓,其中以直径7cm的绿色诱杀球生产成本和诱集效果最佳;诱杀球能显著提高黄板对橘大实蝇的诱集效果(P0.05)。  相似文献

1997年在南疆棉区研究了性信息素笼罩诱捕器和水盆诱捕器对棉铃虫的诱捕效率。试验结果表明 ,伽师县2乡和铁日木乡两地笼罩诱捕器的诱蛾量分别是水盆诱捕器的18.6倍和11.9倍。经统计分析 ,诱蛾量随季节推移有下降趋势。根据笼罩诱蛾效果及其相对稳定性 ,作者希望在我国尽快用笼罩诱捕器取代水盆诱捕器进行棉铃虫成虫的标准化监测。  相似文献

Abstract

Two species of Cryptophlebia found in Hawaii's macadamia orchards are active in different parts of a tree canopy. C. illepida (Butler) males were mostly caught in traps hung 1·5 m to 9.1 m from the ground; whereas C. ombrodelta (Lower) males were caught from 9.1 m to 15.2 m. A plastic, cylindrical sticky trap caught equal numbers of C. illepida males as Pherocon 1C traps but more than delta traps. A synthetic pheromone blend of 93% (Z)‐8‐dodecenyl acetate, 4% (E)‐8‐dodecenyl acetate, 1% (Z)‐8‐dodecenol, and 2% (2)‐7‐dedecenyl acetate attracted more males than other blends. No significant differences were detected between the two Cryptophlebia species in their response to the four‐component pheromone blend when traps were hung 4.6 m from the ground.  相似文献

Field experiments employing yellow water-traps with vials releasing methyl salicylate, butyl isothiocyanate, 4-pentenyl isothiocyanate and diethyltoluamide were conducted during the spring migration of Phorodon humuli (Schrank), with the aim of identifying substances which might be used in the field to deter landing on hop plants. Methyl salicylate and the two isothiocyanates reduced trap catches of P. humuli. During the spring of 1994 a slow-release formulation of methyl salicylate and a β-acid-rich hop resin sprayed on to hop plants did not reduce aphid infestations significantly. In autumn cis,cis-nepetalactol, the main component of P. ‘humuli’s sex pheromone, prepared by various synthetic routes, increased trap catches of males and gynoparae equally. Catches of males in pheromone traps situated in a hop garden decreased with increasing trap height. Catches of males in traps charged with increasing doses of the cis,cis-nepetalactol peaked at 1 mg and then plateaued, whereas catches of gynoparae peaked similarly at 1 mg and then decreased. The effects of kairomones from an extract of the primary host, sex pheromone and a visual cue from yellow compared with clear water-traps were additive. The prospects for developing a semiochemicals-based control strategy against P. humuli, using some or all of the above elements, are discussed.  相似文献

二化螟性诱芯的存贮期对田间雄蛾诱捕量有明显影响。试验在长春市进行 ,根据诱芯存贮期长短设置 2个处理 ,分别为-18℃条件下存贮 2~6个月和同样条件下存贮 33~37个月。结果表明 ,从5月 19日到 9月20日两种贮存期的诱芯平均每盆每日诱蛾量分别为35.8头和5.5头 ,后者下降84.6%。两种贮存期处理的单盆1日最大诱蛾量分别为223头和 20头 ,但不同处理所反映的田间蛾期却基本一致  相似文献
