The aim of this work was to determine the impact of surgically implanted telemetry transmitters (TTs) on the growth, survival, hematological and biochemical indexes, and wound healing in juvenile pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) (body weight 60–90 g). Two incision suturing methods were used—silk sutures (experiment I—group ST) or tissue adhesive (experiment II—group GT). After tagging, the fish were held in a recirculating system for 35 days. No statistically significant differences were noted in the growth or condition indexes analyzed among the fish tagged with TT compared with those from the control groups (untagged). Substantial individual variability was noted, however, in the parameters examined in both the control and tagged groups. Among the hematological indexes, statistically significant differences were only noted in experiment I. Lower values of mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin were noted in group ST. Among the biochemical parameters, creatinine was statistically significantly threefold lower, magnesium and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels were lower, and ammonia levels were higher in group ST than in the control group. In experiment II, significant differences were only noted for ALP. Tissue adhesive was the superior and more effective method for closing the incision after TT implantation in juvenile pikeperch. This type of suturing facilitated faster healing, and it had less of an impact on juvenile pikeperch welfare.  相似文献

In this investigation, the effect of dietary administration of curcumin on the healing of skin wound in fish, Labeo rohita, has been reported. Fish were divided into three groups: control group (fish without skin wound), sham group (fish with skin wound without curcumin treatment) and curcumin‐treated group (fish with skin wound and subjected to dietary administration of 1% curcumin). Experiments were conducted for 30 days to assess the healing of skin wounds at different time intervals using scanning electron microscopy, histology, and mucopolysaccharide and enzyme histochemistry. In the curcumin‐treated group, healing of skin wounds was found to be enhanced than in the sham group as indicated by early restoration of morphology of the surface layer of epithelial cells; the density of the mucous goblet cells; the density of club cells in epidermal layer; and early granular tissue formation, collagen deposition and tissue remodelling in dermal layer. Furthermore, peroxidase and catalase enzyme activity showed increased endogenous defence system in the curcumin‐treated group compared with the sham group. It could be concluded that dietary administration of curcumin is beneficial in rapid healing of skin wounds in fish. Early healing of wounds could be considered to prevent the invasion of pathogens and to maintain the integrity of the surrounding tissue.  相似文献

Xylazine and Ketamine were used for anaesthesia in 250 adult horses. This combination is useful both for induction and maintenance of anaesthesia. The induction with Xylazine and Ketamine has been successful not only with foals but also with high risk patients such as horses with colic. During the maintenance of anaesthesia Xylazine/Ketamine can be used with injectable anaesthetics as well as with volatile anaesthetics at the same time. A form of injection anaesthesia for short-time surgical procedures like castration and wound repair is presented. The maintenance of a Thiobarbiturate/Guaifenesin anaesthesia with Xylazine/Ketamine seems to be suitable for field conditions.  相似文献

Three groups of Atlantic salmon were kept at a constant temperature of 4, 10 and 14 °C. The adipose fins were removed; six fish/group were sampled at 11 subsequent time points post‐clipping. Samples were prepared for histopathological examination to study the course of re‐epithelization. A score sheet was developed to assess the regeneration of epidermal and dermal cell types. Wounds were covered by a thin epidermal layer between 4 and 6 h post‐clipping at 10 and 14 °C. In contrast, wound closure was completed between 6 and 12 h in fish held at a constant temperature of 4 °C. By 18 h post‐clipping, superficial cells, cuboidal cells, prismatic basal cells and mucous cells were discernible in all temperature groups, rapidly progressing towards normal epidermal structure and thickness. Within the observation period, only minor regeneration was found in the dermal layers. A positive correlation between water temperature and healing rates was established for the epidermis. The rapid wound closure rate, epidermal normalization and the absence of inflammatory reaction signs suggest that adipose fin clipping under anaesthesia constitutes a minimally invasive method that may be used to mark large numbers of salmon presmolts without compromising fish welfare.  相似文献

In the pearl cultivation industry, the implantation of the nucleus is a critical step in the production process. The surgical insertion of the nucleus and the mantle results in a wound and stress that affect not only the survival chances of the pearl oysters but also the quality of the pearls produced. This study proposes a synthesized imidazole‐dicarboxylic acid nickel complex that may hold potential in assisting the wound healing and nacre formation processes. The acute toxicity of the complex to pearl oysters, Pinctada martensii, was examined in a dose–response study over a 90‐h exposure. The safe concentrations of the nickel complex determined using probit analysis were 0.916 mg/L and 0.471 mg/L for 72‐h and 96‐h treatments, respectively. The reliability of the regression was verified using the chi‐square test. The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in different regions of the treated and control oysters, along with relevant blood biochemical indices, were measured over a 90‐d period to predict the potential effects of the nickel complex on wound healing and nacre formation. A significant increase in ALP activity in the mantle, together with elevated blood levels of Mg (II) and globulin, and reduced blood levels of Zn (II) and blood urea nitrogen were observed. These results indicate that the prepared nickel complex may hold promise in helping wound healing post mantle implantation, promote the secretion of nacre, and enhance the immunity of the oysters, thus ultimately improving the yield and quality of the pearls.  相似文献

A literature review of surgical techniques used for resection of periocular tumors with conservation of the eyelid is accompanied by a report of the author's personal experience with blepharoplasty in cattle. Included are 13 cases of Fleckvieh cows with squamous cell carcinoma. Five animals were without tumor recurrence after an average time of 10.7 months, while seven animals with recurrence of the neoplasm had mean survival time of 10.6 months. Those five cows had been slaughtered for unrelated problems, the others because of recurrence of the ocular tumor. One patient was slaughtered five days after surgery because of complications of wound healing.  相似文献

Three groups of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., were exposed to live, colony-forming, radiolabelled Aeromonas salmonicida bacteria in a bath challenge: (1) fish with artificial wounds; (2) fish with a reduced epidermal mucus layer caused by removal of the mucus layer on two occasions by a swabbing procedure; and (3) a control group of untreated fish. Fish were killed 2, 6 and 24 h after challenge, and radioactivity (cpm g–1) was measured in the blood, mucus, skin, wound area, gills, anterior kidney, posterior kidney, spleen, midgut and hindgut. The highest levels of radioactivity were measured in the wound areas and in the gills. There was a significant positive correlation between the levels of radioactivity in the gills and blood, and between the mucus and skin at 2 h post-challenge. Two hours after the bath challenge, live A. salmonicida bacteria were found in the blood of fish in the 'swabbed' and 'artificial wound' groups, and not in the control group. Twenty-four hours after the bath challenge, the kidney of fish from all groups contained viable bacteria, whereas the blood was negative.  相似文献

Equine recurrent uveitis (ERU) is the most frequently encountered cause of eye problems and blindness in horses. Classic treatment of ERU includes mydriatics, corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Despite vigorous topical and systemic treatment, however, in many cases, the prognosis for preserving vision remains poor. Experiences with surgical treatment of chronic endogenous uveitis in human patients have shown that vision-impairing axial opacities in the vitreous body can be removed by pars plana vitrectomy, and that a considerable decrease in the frequency and severity of uveitic relapses results. So far, 11 eyes of 10 horses were subjected to vitrectomy. All horses had suffered from 3 or more uveitic attacks and had a hazy vitreous. In all cases, at discharge from the clinic, the vitreous chamber was less hazy compared to preoperative findings. At follow-up examinations, 8 eyes (8/10) had normal i.o. pressure, and 2 (2/10) had subnormal i.o. pressure and the vitreous chambers were clear or contained only small floaters. Uveitic attacks had not been observed in the operated eyes. Postoperative complications included fibrinous, or fibrinous-haemorrhagic exudate in the anterior chamber of all eyes, and in one eye, a minor haemorrhage in the vitreous chamber. Our preliminary results indicate that pars plana vitrectomy assuring proper case selection and accurate surgical technique, may contribute to improvement of vision and may delay the progression of uveitic complications in horses.  相似文献

Abstract. Exposure of surgically damaged skin of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., to low levels of ultraviolet-B radiation in clear water showed that the basic mechanism of superficial wound healing, characterized by epidermal migration, was unaffected. However, the migrating cells were more vulnerable to the necrotizing effects of the irradiation than the surrounding donor epithelium and longer standing effects such as wound contracturc and resolution of epidermal structure failed to occur.  相似文献

Abstract. Segments of the kidney tubules of about 16% of cod caught in the approaches to Halifax Harbour were found to contain a coccidian parasite. Macrogametes developed in an epicellular position, and microgamonts, unsporulated and sporulating oocysts, and free sporocysts, were found in the lumen of the kidney tubule. The epithelial cells of the kidney tubules were damaged and granulomas often formed around infected tubules. The presence of a suture dividing the sporocyst wall into two valves could only be determined using electron microscopy. Other coccidians which have been placed in the genus Eimeria because sutures could not be seen using light microscopy, although no Stieda body was present, may also belong to the genus Goussia. No other coccidians have been reported in the kidney tubules of marine fish, and the name Goussia spraguei sp. nov., is proposed.  相似文献

In 25 cases of muzzle and nasal septum injuries operative treatment was performed by different methods. In conventional nasolabioplasty (n = 23) horizontal mattress sutures were used, the free parts of the thread passing through pieces of rubber tube. In two bulls, suffering from such a rupture the second time, a new surgical technique was applied. To prevent stenosis of the nostrils, the nasal septum was reconstructed by cutaneous pedicle graft. The techniques of both methods are described and illustrated. Healing was observed in all cases.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the role of zinc immersion bath in promoting wound‐healing process in partially scaled common carp using different concentrations of zinc sulphate (ZnSO4). After wound induction, three different doses of ZnSO4 were used (1/20, 1/10 and 1/5 of the calculated LC50) for 10 days. After the end of the experimental period, tissue samples were collected from the area surrounding the wound for analysing the expression of the following genes: collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1α1), transforming growth factor (TGF)‐β1, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)‐A, metallothionein (Met) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF)‐7. Moreover, the tissue antioxidant markers including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), reduced glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were also assessed. The extent of the healing process was also assessed by histopathological examination. The results revealed that the use of ZnSO4 at 1/10 of the LC50 caused a significant improvement in tissue reepithelization, angiogenesis and tissue remodelling through overexpression of Col1α1, TGF‐β1, VEGF‐A and FGF‐7. Moreover, a significant improvement in antioxidant markers was also observed with ZnSO4 immersion. In conclusion, this study showed that ZnSO4 immersion at 1/10 of the calculated LC50 improved the healing of the incisional wound in partially scaled common carp via upregulation of the examined growth factor genes and improvement of the antioxidant status of fish.  相似文献

In 50 domestic pigeons, two circular pieces were removed from the skin to the right and left of the crista sterni, and the wounds were treated in different ways: A. with a collagen membrane dampened with a sodium chloride solution, B. with a fibrin glue, C. with a combination of A) and B). The wounds of group D were left untreated. Scab formation could be seen in all cases, also under the transparent membrane. The collagen membrane had no protective function in the experiment, however, it contributed to the acceleration of re-epithelialisation and the reduction of the wound diameter. We observed previously that scallop shells contain organic components that have various useful applications for skin. The organic components from scallop shell (scallop shell extract) enhance the turnover rate of the rat skin epidermal layer and increase the rate of recovery of UVB-induced injury to rat dorsal skin. We investigated the effect of scallop shell extract on the expression of keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) from human skin fibroblasts because it has been reported that KGF promotes wound healing and reduces the generation of UVB-induced free radicals in skin. Scallop shell extract increased the mRNA expression level of KGF in skin fibroblasts and the secretion of KGF from the fibroblasts at the protein level. These results suggest that the scallop shell extract may promote recovery from UVB-induced injury in skin through an increase in the secretion of KGF from the fibroblast cell.  相似文献

Twelve horses with clinical symptoms of a gastric disorder were studied by gastroscopy. Symptoms of gastric disorders were periprandial colic, bruxism, ructus and reflux. Preliminary to gastroscopy the horses were fasted for 24 h. Access to water was not restricted. The gastroscopy could be conducted easily using a fiberscope 2.5 m in length and 11 mm in outer diameter. While ulcers were present in the squamous fundus of all horses only one horse showed ulceration of the glandular fundus. Solitary ulcers near the margo plicatus were found in horses with mild clinical symptoms. In contrast, diffuse gastroesophageal ulceration was accompanied by severe clinical symptoms. Four horses were affected by an acute gastroesophageal ulceration with gastric reflux and subsequent aspiration pneumonia. Two of those horses suffered from acute gastric ulceration 3-4 days following laparatomy. All horses were treated with cimetidine (5 mg/kg bwt/q.i.d.) until clinical symptoms ceased.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the effect of increased zinc dietary levels on the growth performance, feed utilization, immune status and induced wound healing in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Fish weighing 10 g were fed five diets containing organic zinc at 30, 70, 110 and 150 mg kg?1 diet and one inorganic zinc source (zinc oxide) at 150 mg kg?1 diet for a period of 12 weeks. No significant (P>0.05) differences were found in the growth performance parameters (final weight, specific growth rate), immunological indices tested (respiratory burst activity in whole blood) and the wound‐healing process. Zinc accumulation in the skin, vertebrae and liver increased significantly (P<0.01) with increased dietary zinc levels but not in muscle. The highest zinc concentrations were obtained in skin tissue, followed by vertebrae, liver and muscle tissue. Using the concentration of zinc in skin as a response criterion, broken‐line analysis showed that the supplementation of 148 mg organic Zn kg?1 diet seemed to be the optimum dietary zinc supplementation level for sea bass juveniles.  相似文献
