A cooperative research study involving 635 gilts was conducted at eight research stations to further estimate the lysine requirement of finishing gilts. Dietary crude protein levels of the five dietary treatments ranged from 16.0 to 24.4% with calculated lysine levels of .80, .95, 1.10, 1.25, or 1.40%. Each station contributed a minimum of two replicate pens of pigs per treatment. Average initial and final weights were 53.6 and 116.4 kg, respectively. At the end of the experimental period, pigs were killed and hot carcass weight, 10th-rib fat depth, and longissimus muscle area were measured. Carcass fat-free lean percentage and fat-free lean gain were estimated from these data. Daily lysine intakes averaged 21.8, 25.9, 30.5, 34.3, and 37.8 g/d for the five treatment groups, respectively. Increasing the dietary lysine from .80 to .95% numerically increased weight gain and gain:feed, but these increases were not maintained at higher levels of dietary lysine. Overall, rate and efficiency of gain decreased (cubic, P < .01) with increasing dietary lysine. Carcasses were leaner at the two higher levels of dietary lysine as evidenced by reduced 10th rib backfat (linear, P < .01), increased longissimus area (quadratic, P < .04), and increased percentage of estimated fat-free lean (linear, P < .01). Carcass fat-free lean gain was not influenced by dietary lysine except for a small numerical improvement (P < .11) at the .95% level of dietary lysine that paralleled the improvement in body weight gain. The results indicate that the dietary lysine requirement of finishing gilts with a mean carcass fat-free lean growth rate of 306 g/d from 54 to 116 kg body weight is probably no higher than .80% of the diet to achieve maximum rate and efficiency of body weight gain and carcass lean growth rate. The results also indicate that higher dietary lysine levels may increase carcass leanness in finishing gilts, possibly due to reduced intake of NE. Whether this response is due to the effects of lysine alone, protein (i.e., other amino acids), or soybean meal is unknown.  相似文献

A total of 214 gilts was used (two trials) to determine the effect of protein level and choline supplementation during gestation on weight gain, conception rate and subsequent reproductive performance. The gilts were fed either a 12 or 16% crude protein sorghum-soybean meal diet containing either a high supplemental choline level or no supplemental choline in a 2 X 2 factorial arrangement of treatments. Conception rate was not influenced by either protein or choline level. Choline supplementation increased pig weight at 42 d of age (P less than .14) and litter weight at 21 (P less than .12) and 42 d (P less than .1). Gilts fed the 16% protein diet produced larger pigs at 42 d (P less than .13) and heavier litters at birth, (P less than .1) 21 d (P less than .14) and 42 d (P less than .05) than gilts fed the 12% protein diet. A larger choline effect on litter size and pig and litter weight was observed for gilts fed the 12% protein diet than for those fed the 16% gestation diet, although the protein-choline interaction was not significant for any traits measured. The incidence of spraddle leg condition was low and was not affected by level of dietary protein or supplemental choline.  相似文献

Systemic ketosis was induced in first-parity gilts by the isocaloric substitution of glucose with 1,3-butylene glycol to supply 20% of the total dietary energy beginning on d 23 (23 BG) or d 60 (60 BG) of gestation. Ketosis reduced (P less than .05) maternal plasma glucose, urea N and insulin concentrations. Fetal carcass dry matter and carcass glycogen contents were reduced (P less than .05) by maternal ketogenic calorie substitution, whereas fetal hepatic glycogen and lipid contents were not influenced by maternal treatment. Neural acetate oxidation was reduced (P less than .05) in the 23 BG and 60 BG fetuses, with a concurrent increase (P less than .05) in beta-hydroxybutyrate (BOHB) oxidation. Neural lipogenesis measured from acetate and BOHB substrates was nominal in the d 105 pig fetus. Fetal hepatic acetate and BOHB utilization for lipogenesis were increased (P less than .05) by maternal ketosis. Reproductive performance characteristics (litter size, number stillborn and birth weight) were not improved by maternal ketosis. The substantial improvement in lactation weight gain by litters from 23 BG and 60 BG dams (20%, P less than .05) may suggest a carryover effect of gestation dietary treatment on lactation performance.  相似文献

Eighty crossbred gilts were assigned randomly to treatments: 1) removal of an ovary and ipsilateral uterine horn (UHO) at 130 d of age and removal of the remaining ovary and uterine horn 12 d post-puberty; 2) UHO at 130 d of age, mated and reproductive tracts recovered when slaughtered at 30 d of gestation; 3) UHO 12 d post-puberty, mated and slaughtered at 30 d of gestation and 4) unoperated controls that were mated and slaughtered at 30 d of gestation. Age of puberty was not affected by treatments. Gilts in treatment 1 had a mean ovulation rate at the pubertal estrus comparable to gilts in treatment 3. But, gilts in treatments 2 and 3 had 16% fewer (P less than .01) corpora lutea at 30 d of gestation than control gilts. Length and weight of the remaining uterine horn at 12 d post-puberty for gilts treated at 130 d of age were similar to the averages of gilts left intact. Gilts with one uterine horn had 2.2 fewer live embryos at 30 d of gestation than control gilts (P less than .01). But, the proportion of corpora lutea represented by live embryos did not differ significantly among treatments. Gilts with one uterine horn had 1.1 fewer live embryos (P less than .15) after adjustment for number of corpora lutea, less uterine space occupied by each embryo (P less than .01) and less total placental membrane per embryo (P less than .05) than control gilts.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Thirty-two gilts were used to evaluate the effects of increased dietary energy and CP during late gestation on mammary development. On d 75 of gestation, gilts were assigned randomly in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement to adequate (5.76 Mcal ME/d) or increased (10.5 Mcal ME/d) energy and adequate (216 g CP/d) or increased (330 g CP/d) protein. On d 105 of gestation, gilts were slaughtered and total mastectomies were performed. Mammary tissue was separated into mammary parenchymal and mammary extraparenchymal stromal tissue and analyzed for DNA, RNA, protein and lipid. No interactions between dietary energy and protein level were detected (P greater than .20). When adjusted for number of mammary glands and maternal BW (weight of the sow less the weight of the fetuses), mammary parenchymal weight was 27% greater (P less than .03) in gilts fed adequate energy than in gilts fed increased energy, but mammary extraparenchymal stroma weight was unaffected by dietary energy level. Total mammary parenchymal DNA was 30% greater in gilts fed adequate energy than in gilts fed increased energy (P less than .03). Total mammary parenchymal RNA (P less than .02) and total mammary parenchymal protein (P less than .02) also were greater in gilts fed adequate energy than in gilts fed increased energy. Dietary protein level did not affect mammary variables measured, except that increased dietary protein tended to reduce mammary extraparenchymal stromal weight (P less than .09). Increased dietary protein between d 75 and d 105 of gestation did not benefit mammary development, but increased dietary energy was detrimental to development of mammary secretory tissue.  相似文献

Two doses of Streptozotocin (50 and 100 mg/kg body weight) were administered to two groups of pregnant gilts at d 80 of gestation to determine the influence of two levels of maternal diabetes on the gilts, their developing progenies and the body composition of the pigs. All the experimental animals received 1.82 kg of gestation diet/day throughout gestation. Serum glucose concentration increased to hyperglycemic levels in low-dose and high-dose groups; insulin concentrations decreased (P less than .01) in the high-dose, but not in the low-dose group (P greater than .05). Maternal free fatty acids (FFA) increased (P less than .05) in both treatment groups when compared with the control. However, birth weight of the litter and litter size were not affected. The liver weight increased (P less than .01) in the progeny of high-dose but not the low-dose group. Total liver DNA and RNA were not altered by the treatments, however; total liver protein and protein:DNA ratio increased (P less than .01) in the progeny of high-dose gilts. Pigs from high-dose and low-dose groups showed increases (P less than .01) in liver glycogen concentrations and percentage liver lipid. Body chemical composition data showed increases in percentage dry matter and percentage lipid (P less than .05 and P less than .01, respectively) in the progeny of high-dose but not in the low-dose group. It was concluded that streptozotocin administered to gestating gilts increased the maternal nutrient supply to the developing pigs, which resulted in higher energy status of the pigs at birth.  相似文献

Four experiments using 580 barrows and 580 gilts (Study 1) and seven experiments using 500 barrows and 500 gilts (Study 2) were conducted at various geographical locations in the United States to determine the dose response of a pelleted form of porcine somatotropin (pST) relative to ADG, feed/gain (F/G), and percentage of carcass protein. Average initial weights for Studies 1 and 2 were 67.6 and 72.6 kg, respectively, and four pigs/pen were slaughtered when they achieved weights of 106.5 to 111.0 kg. In Study 1, pigs were implanted subcutaneously with pelleted pST doses of 0, 12, 24, 36, or 48 mg/wk and self-fed a corn-soybean meal diet containing 13.75% CP. Study 2 included two control groups self-fed a diet containing either 13.75 or 17% CP with added lysine. The pST-treated pigs were administered 12, 24, or 36 mg/wk, and all were offered the 17% CP diet. The pST treatments in Study 1 resulted in a linear reduction (P less than .05) in average daily feed intake (ADFI) and a quadratic (P less than .05) improvement in F/G and percentage of carcass protein. The pST treatments in Study 2 resulted in a linear reduction in ADFI (P less than .05), a linear improvement in F/G, and a quadratic increase in the percentage of carcass protein (P less than .05). Average daily gain was not affected in either study with this form of pST. The greatest increase in efficiency of lean gain was observed with the 36-mg dose for both Study 1 (9.4%) and Study 2 (10.8%). In Study 1, the force required to shear cores of the longissimus muscle was increased linearly with pST treatment (P less than .05). There was a similar linear increase in Study 2 with pST treatment (P less than .05); however, there was also an effect of sex (P less than .05) on shear force (gilts greater than barrows) that was similar in magnitude to that observed for pST treatment. Differences in sensory evaluation because of pST were minor and of the same magnitude as those observed between barrows and gilts. It was therefore concluded that weekly administration of pST improved F/G and percentage of carcass protein with no detrimental effects on palatability of cooked lean pork.  相似文献

A follow-up study was conducted to determine the effects of streptozotocin-diabetes during the first parity on subsequent reproductive performance of sows. Only in the first parity, two doses of streptozotocin (50 and 100 mg/kg body weight) were administered to two groups of pregnant gilts at 80 d of gestation; a third group of gilts served as a control. Second-parity reproductive performance showed that gestation length, placental weight, mean birth weight of the litter, litter size and number of pigs born alive were not affected (P greater than .05) by maternal diabetes. Maternal serum glucose and fructose were greater (P less than .01) in high-dose sows than in the low-dose and the control dams. Serum free fatty acids (FFA) were higher (P less than .05) in high-dose dams than in control dams at d-1 and d 112 of gestation; no differences were observed between the high-dose and the low-dose during the same period. Liver and kidney weight, as well as DNA and RNA content, were greater (P less than .01) in pigs from high-dose dams than in those of the other treatments. Liver protein was elevated (P less than .01) in the progeny of high-dose dams. Dry matter and percent lipid were higher (P less than .05 and P less than .01, respectively), in pigs from high-dose sows than those from other treatment. The development of obesity in porcine fetuses was investigated using a lean and obese strain of pigs at 80, 90, 100 and 110 d of gestation. In absolute terms, fetuses of obese gilts (FO) generally had lower carcass weight and contained less total protein, dry matter and ash than fetuses of lean gilts (FL). In relative terms (percentage of wet carcass weight) FO, compared with FL, generally had decreased percentages of water and increased percentages of protein and lipid. Comparisons based on absolute terms revealed body composition of the strains to be different at 90 d, indicating that factors responsible for obese-type growth were active before that time. Both body composition and hormone concentration differences were most pronounced at later gestation ages. Depressed growth hormone, elevated cortisol, and a tendency toward elevated insulin concentrations in fetal plasma were apparent in late gestation for FO compared with FL. These hormonal patterns are consistent with onset of obesity in FO in late gestation. Greater weights of semitendinosus and longissimus muscles were observed in FL vs FO at 90, 100 and 110 d of gestation (P less than .05). These greater muscle weights were generally accompanied by greater contents of RNA, DNA and protein in FL muscles at these same ages. However, at 80 d, FL had greater absolute DNA content in semitendinosus muscle whereas muscle weight was similar between the strains. This suggests that greater muscle weights for FL than FO were caused by more nuclei in muscle of FL. In general, indices of hypertrophy (protein/DNA) and protein synthetic capacity (RNA/DNA) of muscle were usually similar for both strains at all gestation ages. It is concluded that decreased muscle growth in late gestation of FO compared with FL is more related to fewer total nuclei and perhaps fewer myofibers than to an impaired cellular capacity for protein synthesis.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the influence of feeding ground raw soybeans to swine during gestation on reproductive performance for three consecutive parities. Sixty crossbred gilts were bred and randomly assigned to two dietary treatments with 30 gilts/treatment. The diets were formulated to contain 14% crude protein with either soybean meal (SBM) or raw soybeans (RSB) serving as the source of supplemental protein. All animals were fed in individual gestation stalls and were given 1.81 kg of feed/d. Upon entering the farrowing house at approximately 110 d of gestation, all animals, regardless of previous treatment, were fed the same lactation diet (15% protein corn-soybean meal diet) until the pigs were weaned (28 d). After completing three parities, 88 of a possible 90 litters were farrowed by each dietary group. Total number of live pigs at parturition and 21 d for three parities were: (SBM) 887, 732 and (RSB) 924, 765, respectively. Average pig birth and 21-d weights for each dietary group were (SBM) 1.52, 5.42 and (RSB) 1.59, 5.41 kg, respectively. Pigs from dams fed RSB had higher average pig birth weights (P less than .05), but weaning weights were not affected. There were no significant differences in maternal weight changes during gestation. Milk samples were collected within 6 h after parturition, 3 and 14 d of lactation. Percentage milk fat for each time period was: (SBM) 5.6, 9.0, 7.0 and (RSB) 6.3, 10.7, 6.5, respectively. Sows fed RSB had a higher milk fat at 3 d (P less than .05) but a lower milk fat at 14 d (P less than .1) than did the sows fed SBM. The study indicated RSB can be effectively utilized in gestation diets fed to swine.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate whether dietary protein intake of gilts during gestation below (50%) or above (250%) recommendations affects body composition, carcass and meat quality, and properties of skeletal muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SCAT) in offspring at d 83 and 188 of age. German Landrace gilts were fed isoenergetic gestation diets (~13.7 MJ of ME/kg) containing a low (LP, 6.5%; n = 18), an adequate (AP, 12.1%; n = 20), or a high (HP, 30%; n = 16) protein content from mating until farrowing. Within 48 h of birth, offspring were cross-fostered to sows fed a standard diet. On d 83 of age, no effects of the LP diet on BW and body composition were detected, whereas HP pigs showed a slight growth delay (P = 0.06) associated with increased relative weights of small intestine (P < 0.01) and brain (P = 0.08), and reduced relative thymus weight (P < 0.01). On d 188 of age, BW was not different among the dietary groups. However, the carcass of LP pigs contained less (P = 0.01) lean and more (P = 0.07) fat compared with AP and HP pigs, which was only pronounced in pigs originating from large litters (P < 0.05). Like skeletal muscles (P = 0.06), the heart muscle weighed less (P = 0.02) in LP than AP pigs. Compared with AP pigs, LP pigs exhibited a fewer (P = 0.09) total number of myofibers in semitendinosus muscle plus LM both at d 83 and 188 of age, whereas total muscular DNA was less (P = 0.02) at d 188 only. The mRNA abundance of IGF2 measured on d 188 was reduced in SCAT (P = 0.03) and LM (P = 0.07) of LP compared with AP pigs. No changes in muscular fiber type frequency, capillary density, or creatine kinase activity, as well as SCAT adipocyte size and number, were observed at either stages of age. Meat quality characteristics remained unchanged at d 83, whereas Warner-Bratzler shear force value in LM was decreased (P = 0.03) in LP compared with AP pigs on d 188 of age. The results suggest that the maternal LP diet impairs prenatal myofiber formation, reduces the potential of postnatal lean growth related to reduced IGF2 mRNA expression and myonuclear accumulation, and consequently changes carcass quality toward reduced lean proportion and improved tenderness at market weight. In contrast, except for a slight transient growth delay, excess dietary protein during gestation seems to have little effect on the fetal programming of postnatal muscle and adipose tissue phenotype of the progeny.  相似文献

Manipulation of porcine carcass composition by ractopamine   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effect of dietary ractopamine and protein level on growth performance, individual muscle weight and carcass composition of finishing pigs were evaluated in two experiments. Twelve barrows and 12 gilts (Exp. 1) and 32 barrows (Exp. 2) with an average initial weight of 64 kg were penned individually and offered ractopamine at 0 or 20 ppm in diets containing 13 or 17% CP in 2 x 2 factorial experiments for 28 d. In both experiments, dietary ractopamine improved daily gain (P less than .1) and gain-to-feed ratio (P less than .05) at 17% dietary protein level but depressed these response criteria at 13% protein level. Leaf fat was reduced (P less than .05) and longissimus muscle depth was increased (P less than .1) by feeding ractopamine regardless of dietary CP concentration. Longissimus, psoas major, semitendinosus, biceps and quadriceps femoris (P less than .05) and tensor facia latae (P less than .1) muscles were 8 to 22% heavier with ractopamine feeding at 17% dietary CP level. Results from both trials suggest that ractopamine improves growth rate and carcass leanness at the higher dietary protein level but improves only carcass leanness at the lower protein level.  相似文献

Twenty-five nongravid crossbred gilts (avg initial wt, 126 kg) were placed on either a high (38%) or a low (13%) crude protein (CP) diet and fed either at the rate of 1.82 kg/d or had ad libitum access to feed. In addition, a fifth group was pair-fed the 13% CP diet to the average intake of the gilts fed high CP ad libitum. The experimental period lasted 30 d. Corn-soybean meal diets were used and CP levels were varied by altering the corn:soybean meal ratio. Gain and gain/feed were reduced (P less than .01) in gilts fed 1.82 kg/d compared with the gilts fed ad libitum or pair-fed gilts. Gain (P less than .03) and feed intake (P less than .01) of gilts with ad libitum access to the 13% CP diet were higher than those of gilts with ad libitum access to the 38% CP diet. Gain/feed was not different (P greater than .10) between the two groups, however. Rate of gain and feed efficiency of gilts pair-fed the 13% CP diet were similar (P greater than .10) to those of gilts with ad libitum access to the 38% CP diet. Plasma total free amino acids, NH3 and total protein were not (P greater than .10) affected by treatment. Plasma urea-N and urinary total N, urea-N and orotic acid were increased (P less than .01) in gilts fed the high CP diet regardless of feed intake level. However, urinary NH3 was higher (P less than .01) in gilts fed the low-protein diet. These results indicate that excess dietary CP for nongravid gilts decreases gain and feed intake and has no effect on efficiency of feed utilization, but it increases plasma urea-N and urinary total N, urea-N and orotic acid.  相似文献

Monensin was added at 0 or 23 mg/kg dry matter to low (8.3%) or high (17.5%) crude protein diets (2 X 2 factorial arrangement) that were fed to 28 growing wether goats for 194 to 256 d. Average daily gain increased 24% with monensin and 20% with higher crude protein (P less than .05). Feed conversion was improved by both monensin and higher crude protein (P less than .001). During the experiment, digestion and metabolism trials were conducted twice (Periods I and II) with each goat. Apparent dry matter and gross energy digestibility coefficients were not affected by monensin in either period. Digestibility of dietary N was enhanced 7% by monensin in Period II (P less than .01) and tended to be improved in Period I. Higher dietary protein increased all digestibility coefficients (P less than .001). Nitrogen retention was not affected by monensin but was greater (P less than .001) for high-protein-fed goats. Potential changes in empty body composition were assessed by comparative slaughter balance. No effects of dietary treatments on percentage composition of empty body were noted, except a trend for higher protein in monensin-fed goats compared with controls (P less than .1). Empty body protein gain as a percentage of protein intake improved 41% with monensin and decreased 37% with higher dietary protein content (P less than .05). Monensin increased conversion of dietary energy to body ether extract energy (12%, P less than .05), to protein energy (35%, P less than .001) and to total body energy (23%, P less than .001). Magnitude of improvement tended to be greater with low than high dietary protein treatments, suggesting a protein-sparing effect of monensin as determined by comparative slaughter method. However, N retention, measured by intake-excreta balances, was not affected by monensin, suggesting that these point estimates are less than adequate to evaluate true body protein gain.  相似文献

Duroc, Meishan, Fengjing, and Minzhu boars were mated to crossbred gilts during two breeding seasons. From each sire breed group each season, six pens of approximately eight barrows each were slaughtered. A pen of pigs from each sire breed group was slaughtered at 7-d intervals from 168 to 203 d of age each season. Breed of sire effects were significant for all age-adjusted carcass traits except carcass length, fat thickness at the last rib, color score, and firmness score. At 184 d of age, Duroc crosses had the heaviest (P less than .05) slaughter and carcass weights; Minzhu crosses were lighter (P less than .05) than Meishan crosses but not lighter than Fengjing crosses. Differences among age-constant traits reflect differences in BW. After adjustment to a constant carcass weight of 78 kg, the three Chinese breeds had very similar carcass characteristics. Carcasses sired by Durocs had significantly less backfat and larger longissimus muscle area than carcasses sired by the Chinese breeds. Weight of each trimmed wholesale lean cut and their total weight were significantly higher for Duroc crosses than for Chinese crosses. Breed of sire means did not differ significantly for belly weight, but Duroc crosses had less (P less than .05) weight of leaf fat. Relative to Chinese crosses, longissimus muscles from Duroc crosses had more marbling (P less than .05). Sire breed groups did not differ significantly for color or firmness score. Pigs sired by Meishan, Fengjing, and Minzhu produced carcasses with significantly less lean content at a carcass weight of 78 kg than did pigs sired by Duroc.  相似文献

Growth, carcass traits, and selected reproductive characteristics were evaluated in prepubertal gilts treated with either a constant mass of pGH or a mass of pGH adjusted periodically for changes in BW. Gilts (64 kg, n = 24) were given 24 daily injections of either vehicle (C; control) or one of two doses of pGH: 70 micrograms/kg of BW, with dose adjusted every 5th d for changes in BW (A; adjusted), or 70 micrograms/kg of initial BW (U; unadjusted). Gilts were slaughtered on d 25. Gilts treated with pGH had higher ADG (P less than .002) and improved feed efficiency (kg of feed/kg of gain; P = .0003) compared with controls. Weights of adrenal glands, liver, heart, and kidney were higher (all P less than .01) for Groups A and U than for Group C gilts. Average backfat thickness was less (P less than .004) for A and U gilts than for C gilts and less for Group A than for Group U (P less than .02). Furthermore, growth and carcass traits were similar (P greater than .05) for Groups A and U, except for measurements of first rib backfat, last rib backfat, and average backfat depth (P less than .05). Culture of granulosa cells (GC) was employed to assess ovarian function. Addition of FSH to the culture media enhanced secretion of progesterone (P4) by cultured GC from all in vivo treatments compared with unsupplemented cultures of GC (P less than .05). Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of substituting a more available dietary carbohydrate (CHO) for portions of corn or fat in the diet on growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and serum or plasma metabolites in growing-finishing pigs. A three-phase feeding program was used with corn-soybean meal diets formulated to provide 105% of the Lys requirement for barrows or gilts gaining 325 g of lean daily in Exp. 1 or gilts gaining 350 g of lean daily in Exp. 2. Diets were isoenergetic within experiments. All other nutrients met or exceeded suggested requirements. In Exp. 1, pigs were allotted to three dietary treatments (0, 7.5, or 15.0% sucrose), with three replications of barrows and three replications of gilts, and with three or four pigs per replicate pen; average initial and final BW were 25.2 and 106.7 kg. In Exp. 2, gilts were allotted to two dietary treatments (waxy [high amylopectin] or nonwaxy [75% amylopectin and 25% amylose] corn as the grain source), with five replications of four gilts per replicate pen; average initial and final BW were 37.7 and 100.0 kg. In Exp. 1, ADG and gain:feed ratio increased linearly (P < 0.02) as dietary sucrose increased. Minolta color scores, a* and b*, and drip loss (P < 0.06) also increased linearly with added sucrose. In Exp. 2, ADG, carcass weight and length, and the Minolta a* value were greater for pigs fed waxy corn (P < 0.08) than for those fed nonwaxy corn. Feed intake, longissimus muscle area, 10th-rib and average backfat thickness, dressing percentage, fat-free lean, percentage of lean and muscling, lean gain per day, total fat, percentage fat, lean:fat ratio, serum or plasma metabolites (Exp. 1: serum urea N; Exp. 2: serum urea N, and plasma nonesterified fatty acids, triacylglycerols, total and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, insulin, and total protein), pH of the longissimus muscle, and subjective muscle scores (color, firmness-wetness, and marbling) were not affected by diet in either experiment. In summary, increasing availability of dietary CHO in growing-finishing pig diets improved growth performance, but it did not affect carcass traits.  相似文献

This experiment was designed to determine the effects of variations in dietary energy intake on reproductive performance and gene expression of luteal and endometrium tissues in Large White(LW)and Meishan(MS) gilts during early and middle pregnancy. After insemination, 32 LW gilts were assigned to high and low(HE_Land LE_L, 14.23 and 12.56 MJ DE/kg, respectively) diet treatment groups,while 32 MS gilts were allocated to HE_M and LE_M(12.56 and 10.88 MJ DE/kg) groups. Gilts were slaughtered on days 35, 55 and 90 of gestation. The fetal survival and luteal progesterone(P_4) concentration in the HE_Lgroup were higher on day 35 but lower on day 90 of gestation compared with the LE_L group(P 0.05) for LW gilts. However, fetal survival and luteal P_4 concentration on day 35 of gestation were greater(P 0.05) in the LE_M group than in the HE_M group for MS gilts, but no significant difference in mid-gestation was showed. The fetal weights of both breeds were higher for the high energy diets compared with the respective control group on day 90 of gestation(P 0.05). In addition,the m RNA levels of P_4 synthesis-related proteins had correlated with luteal P_4 concentration in both breeds. Further, endometrial levels of uteroferrin(ACP5), retinol-binding protein 4(RBP_4) and secreted phosphoprotein 1(SPP1) m RNA were upregulated in the HE_Lgroup on day 35 of gestation but ACP5 and SPP1 were downregulated on day 55 of gestation compared with the LE_Lgroup(P 0.05) for LW gilts. In MS gilts, diet only affected the expression of SPP1(P 0.05). Our results revealed the differential sensitivity of LW and MS breeds to variations in dietary energy intake. For LW gilts, the HE_Lgroup improved fetal survival on day 35 but a sustained high energy diet decreased fetal survival on day 90 of gestation. The differences in dietary energy intake did not influence fetal survival on day 90 of gestation but the higher energy diet did increase fetal weight in the MS breed compared with the lower energy intake diet. These results may be due to differential luteal secretion activity and endometrium gene expression in these two breeds.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of dietary L-carnitine on growth performance and carcass composition of nursery and growing-finishing pigs. In Exp. 1,216 weanling pigs (initially 4.9 kg and 19 to 23 d of age) were used in a 35-d growth trial. Pigs were blocked by weight in a randomized complete block design (six pigs per pen and six pens per treatment). Four barrows and four gilts were used to determine initial carcass composition. L-Carnitine replaced ground corn in the control diets to provide 250, 500, 750, 1,000, or 1,250 ppm. On d 35, three barrows and three gilts per treatment (one pig/block) were killed to provide carcass compositions. L-Carnitine had no effect (P > 0.10) on growth, percentages of carcass CP and lipid, or daily protein accretion. However, daily lipid accretion tended to decrease and then return to values similar to those for control pigs (quadratic P < 0.10) with increasing dietary L-carnitine. In Exp. 2, 96 crossbred pigs (initially 34.0 kg BW) were used to investigate the effect of increasing dietary L-carnitine in growing-finishing pigs. Pigs (48 barrows and 48 gilts) were blocked by weight and sex in a randomized complete block design (two pigs/pen and eight pens/treatment). Dietary L-carnitine replaced cornstarch in the control diet to provide 25, 50, 75, 100, and 125 ppm in grower (34 to 56.7 kg; 1.0% lysine) and finisher (56.7 to 103 kg; 0.80% lysine) diets. At 103 kg, one pig/pen was slaughtered, and standard carcass measurements were obtained. Dietary L-carnitine did not influence growth performance (P > 0.10). However, increasing dietary carnitine decreased average and tenth-rib back-fat (quadratic, P < 0.10 and 0.05), and increased percentage lean and daily CP accretion rate (quadratic, P < 0.05). Break point analysis projected the optimal dosage to be between 49 and 64 ppm of L-carnitine for these carcass traits. It is concluded that dietary carnitine fed during the nursery or growing-finishing phase had no effect on growth performance; however, feeding 49 to 64 ppm of L-carnitine during the growing-finishing phase increased CP accretion and decreased tenth-rib backfat.  相似文献

Twenty-five crossbred gilts and 25 crossbred sows were used in an experiment to estimate the riboflavin requirement of lactating swine. During gestation the females were fed a 12% crude protein, corn-soybean meal diet that was marginal in riboflavin content, i.e., 2.3 mg/kg. After farrowing, litter size was equalized across lactation diets within each parity category. The basal, 14% crude-protein corn-soybean meal lactation diet was supplemented to provide five levels of dietary riboflavin: 1.25, 2.25, 3.25, 4.25 and 5.25 mg/kg. Five gilts and five sows were fed each dietary treatment. Each dam was provided her assigned diet ad libitum during the 24-d lactation; piglets were not provided supplemental feed. The erythrocyte glutathione reductase activity coefficient (EGRAC), an indicator of riboflavin status, was measured on blood samples obtained from the dams and their piglets on d 1 and d 24 postpartum. On d 1, the mean EGRAC of gilts was slightly higher than that of sows, while piglet EGRAC was similar regardless of maternal age. On d 24 gilts and their piglets had higher average EGRAC (P less than .01) than did sows and their piglets. Thus, there was a treatment x dam age interaction (P less than .05). Lactation performance criteria gave further evidence of similar treatment x age group interactions. Gilts fed the diet containing 1.25 ppm riboflavin had higher piglet mortality, consumed less feed and lost more weight (P less than .05) for each criterion than did sows fed the same diet. Despite these observations, the broken-line estimates of the riboflavin requirement, based on EGRAC, for gilts and sows were 16.3 and 16.2 mg/d, respectively. The EGRAC values for piglets closely paralleled those of their dams regardless of treatment, suggesting that there is no mechanism to protect the nursing piglets from a maternal dietary deficiency of riboflavin.  相似文献
