To determine the association between ultrasonographic (US) and anatomopathologic findings, an US examination was performed postmortem on the fetlock and associated structures of 37 equine forelimb specimens. All these specimens exhibited images suggestive of lesions on the ultrasound examination. Subsequently, these limbs were dissected and underwent an anatomopathologic study. Ultrasonographic changes in size, shape, architecture, and echogenicity of ligaments, tendons, joint capsule, articular cartilage, and bony surfaces of the metacarpophalangeal joint were associated with the anatomopathologic findings.  相似文献

Neurological disorders (NDs) are often fatal to horses. Thus, symptoms of equine NDs commonly indicate euthanasia. Current diagnostic approaches for equine NDs is based on clinical signs, differential diagnoses, analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), assessment of histopathological lesions, and imaging. However, advances in biofluid biomarkers in the diagnosis of human neurological diseases can potentially be applied to equine NDs. In this review, we described the established human blood and CSF neurobiomarkers that could potentially be used to diagnose equine NDs.  相似文献

Equine herpes myeloencephalopathy (EHM), although a relatively uncommon manifestation of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) infection, can cause devastating losses on individual farms or boarding stables. Although outbreaks of EHM have been recognized for centuries in domestic horse populations, many aspects of this disease remained poorly characterized. In recent years, an improved understanding of EHM has emerged from experimental studies and from data collected during field outbreaks at riding schools, racetracks and veterinary hospitals throughout North America and Europe. These outbreaks have highlighted the contagious nature of EHV-1 and have prompted a re-evaluation of diagnostic procedures, treatment modalities, preventative measures and biosecurity protocols for the disease. This review concentrates on these and other selected, clinically relevant aspects of EHM.  相似文献

Sepsis in equine describes a broad range of disorders with different underlying causes and often different prognoses. The syndrome can rapidly progress to septic shock and can result in hypoperfusion with subsequent multiple organ dysfunction including acute kidney injury (AKI). Despite extensive research and progress have been performed in several fields in equine medicine, the incidence as well as the mortality rate of sepsis-induced AKI remains unclear. Although sepsis is considered as the leading cause of AKI, the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms are not completely understood and still a subject of ongoing debate. The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive review of the pathophysiology of sepsis-induced AKI, and to outline the diagnostic as well as the therapeutic potentials of the disease.  相似文献
