A national survey was conducted to address the concern over the uniformity of serological test results for avian mycoplasmosis. The National Veterinary Services Laboratories produced chicken and turkey mycoplasma serum-check test kits. Each kit had a total of 25 sera that consisted of negative and positive sera. Participating laboratories were requested to examine their kits using the serum plate agglutination test with the plate antigens currently being used and the hemagglutination inhibition test with the hemagglutinating antigens provided. A conclusion whether serum plate agglutination-positive sera were positive, negative, or suspicious was based on the hemagglutination inhibition test results. Results in each category were scored on the basis of 100 points. The average scores on the serum plate agglutination test, hemagglutination inhibition test, and conclusion were 95, 71, and 91, respectively, for the chicken serum test kit and 91, 71, and 89, respectively, for the turkey serum test kit. The results indicated a high degree of uniformity among laboratories in reporting serological test results for mycoplasmosis in chickens and turkeys.  相似文献

Penicillin, the recommended treatment for rabbit syphilis, sometimes induces adverse effects. The efficacy of oral chloramphenicol was evaluated in 39 cases of rabbit syphilis to establish a safe and efficient treatment for this disease in companion rabbits. All cases clinically improved and recovered promptly. Fourteen of 39 cases (35.9%) relapsed, but most remained chloramphenicol sensitive. Since safety take priority over efficacy in treating syphilis in companion rabbits, chloramphenicol should be chosen as a first-line agent, as a general rule. Three-week administration of chloramphenicol may be adequate at the initial onset of disease. When relapse occurs repeatedly or the rabbit owner cannot administer the medicine adequately, treatment with penicillin should be considered.  相似文献

From March to April 1992, 200 culled chickens sent to an abattoir in Tokyo, Japan were examined for the presence of growth agglutinating antibody in the serum. In the serological survey, 11 (5.5%) of 200 chicken sera had high growth agglutination titres against Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, ranging from 1:16 to 1:128. These findings indicate a high rate of erysipelas infection among chickens in the field.  相似文献

Rabbit syphilis was experimentally transmitted from clinical cases to healthy rabbits. The purpose was to evaluate changes in RPR titers during the course of infection and to detect the pathogenic organism. Two of three littermate rabbits were inoculated topically. One rabbit became symptomatic, with typical clinical signs on its genitalia about 8 weeks after inoculation and a marked rise in RPR titers, another remained asymptomatic with a moderate rise in titers, and the control rabbit remained negative. These results supported the specific relationship between clinical signs and RPR titers. Histopathological examination of the skin lesion from the symptomatic rabbit revealed spirochetes.  相似文献

Developmental instability hypothesis suggests that asymmetric variation can partially reflect the body's inability to buffer environmental and/or genetic perturbations. Fluctuating asymmetry (FA), that is random differences between the left and right sides of body features that are symmetric at the population level, can assess this approach. Another kind of asymmetry is directional asymmetry (DA) which appears when the left and right sides differ consistently from each other. Extreme selection for morphological traits, as appear in some companion rabbits selected for a paedomorphic (dwarf rabbits) or gerontomorphic (belier rabbits) appearance, may cause abnormal functional conditions, which in turn could be expressed as significative degrees of asymmetries. To study these phenomena, we analysed 62 mandibles of companion rabbits (20 beliers and 42 dwarfs) by means of geometric morphometric methods and quantified their size and shape asymmetric variation (both FA and DA) using 18 landmarks on the lateral side. FA was present in both types but in different degrees, being higher among dwarfs. It is considered that this type is subject to deeper changes than among beliers, and therefore, there is higher pressure on the phenotype. This observation could be assumed to be an adaptive response, coming out as FA. The presence of DA was significative and similar for two types. This likely indicates common masticatory lateralization, a pattern that has been detected in other domestic mammals. The methodological framework presented in this study can be valuable for future works focused on genetically and/or environmentally related form study in pets.  相似文献

This paper deals with 16 cases presented from April to December 2001 and diagnosed clinically as rabbit syphilis, because they showed distinct lesions around the nose and/or mouth, responded to chemotherapy, and the "Rapid Plasma Reagin" test was positive. Twelve cases exhibited initial symptoms and four were relapses. Lesions around the genitalia and/or anus as well as the nose and/or mouth were seen in 8 cases, and 6 cases indicated sneezing. Fifteen cases were successfully treated with oral administration of chloramphenicol, and one was treated with long-acting penicillin by intramuscular injection. The mean age of onset was 8.8 months. As none of these cases had any mating history, the disease was likely to be maternally transmitted.  相似文献

Following recovery from ovine footrot, a proportion of sheep in a flock may carry the causative organism and spread it to other sheep if environmental conditions are favourable. Footrot affected sheep have elevated levels of serum antibody against Bacteroides nodosus, but these levels decline rapidly after clinical recovery. When challenged by subcutaneous injection with 470 micrograms of protein extracted from the cell membrane of B. nodosus, without adjuvant, sheep that had recovered clinically from virulent footrot produced a marked increase in specific serum antibody within 7 d, while antibody levels in footrot-free sheep injected with the same antigen, and in saline injected controls, did not increase over a period of 25 d. Artificial stimulation and serological detection of immune memory may be useful in footrot eradication programs by identifying sheep that have had clinical footrot infection. This procedure may be applicable to other diseases where antibody responses are inconsistent or transient.  相似文献

The causative agents of avian mycobacteriosis in pet birds are rarely identified. The aim of this study is to add information about the etiology of avian mycobacteriosis. The identification of mycobacterium species in 27 cases of avian mycobacteriosis in pet birds was investigated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing of a rRNA hypervariable region. Avian mycobacteriosis appeared to be an infrequent diagnosis. Interestingly, a few cases of avian mycobacteriosis were recorded in very young birds. The most commonly affected species were the canary (Serinus canarius), the Eurasian goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) and the red siskin (Spinus cucullatus). All but one bird were infected with Mycobacterium genavense. Mycobacterium avium was identified only in one case.  相似文献

A serological survey of 225 cats from different parts of the NorthIsland was conducted using 11 leptospiral serovar antigens. Twenty (8.8%) of the sera gave titres to the microagglutination test.The prevalence of titres to the serovars were as follows: five (2.22%) to copenhageni, five (2.22%) to hardjo, four (1.77%) to ballum, four (1.77%) to pomona, one (0.44%) to balanica and one (0.44%) to canicola; no titres to tarassovi, bataviae, pyrogenes and australis were recorded. It is hypothesised that prey-predator transmission between cats and rodents is responsible for infections with serovars copenhageni and ballum. Infections with the other serovars are presumed to result from contact with infected animals or a contaminated environment.  相似文献

Sheep and alpacas of similar age groups (6, 18 and 36+ months) were grazed for 16 weeks on pasture contaminated by lambs. Faecal egg counts, bulked larval cultures, lungworm larvae in faeces, dag scores, liveweight changes and nematode larvae on pasture were measured. Chabertia, Oesophagostomum, Cooperia, Ostertagia and Haemonchus and Trichostrongylus larvae were cultured from both the sheep and the alpacas. For the respective age groups, the alpacas had lower liveweight gains (10, 32 and 47 g/d vs 88, 84 and 120 g/d), peak faecal egg counts (384, 50 and 60 epg vs 1500, 500 and 140 epg) and faecal contamination of the perineum than the same ages of sheep. These results suggest alpacas became less affected with gastrointestinal nematodes than sheep.  相似文献

我国的羊布鲁氏菌病主要流行于东北、西北及内蒙古牧区。近年来,广西大力发展山羊养殖,各地引种频繁,在引种中疏忽了对该病的检疫,造成了一定的隐患。为摸清疫情,消除隐患,从2003年8月到2005年10月对全区山羊传统主产区和新养殖区的11市28县(区)进行山羊布鲁氏菌病血清学调查,结果报告如下。1材料和方法1.1血清现场采血,分离血清后,冷冻保存待检。1.2抗原及标准阳性血清试管凝集抗原购自中国流行病学研究所,批号2004-03,有效期2006.03。阴性血清自备,批号2003-1,有效期2008.06。1.3方法具体操作按《动物布鲁氏菌病诊断技术》(GB/T18646—2002)的规定进行。血清先做虎红平板凝集试验筛选,阳性和可疑样品再做试管凝集试验进一步确认,判断标准为:血清稀释1∶50出现“ ”以上凝集,判为阳性。2结果检测南宁、崇左、北海、梧州、贺州、桂林、河池、防城港、来宾、百色和柳州11市的28县(区)共1469份血清,检测结果如表1。3小结检测区内11个市28个县(区)共1469份血清,结果阳性18份,阳性率为1.23%。检出的18份阳性血清均来自柳州市的一个养羊点,经现场重新采血,试管凝集试验确...  相似文献

Blood samples from 2156 cattle from 40 herds in the Mexican states of Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas and Coahuila were tested for antibody activity to Anaplasma marginale using the card test. Herd prevalence rates ranged from 0 to 86% with a mean of 22%. Analysis of joint positivity to A. marginale and Babesia bovis and to A. marginale and B. bigemina in individual animals resulted in the rejection of the null hypothesis of no association in 7 and 8 of 37 herds, respectively.  相似文献
