The scallop Argopecten purpuratus is one of themajor resources of commercial importance in Chilean aquaculture. One of themajor limiting factors for the culture of this species has been mass mortalityoccurring during production of juvenile seed organisms where massmortality of veliger larvae has been attributed to the presence of pathogenicbacteria in scallops and hatchery systems. Bacteriological studies havedemonstrated that in addition to bacterial pathogens, beneficial bacterialspecies capable of improving scallop larval survival may also be isolated fromscallops and hatchery systems. Research has been carried out on thedetermination of the feasibility of implementing beneficial bacteria in thecontrol of culture pathogens, thus reducing the need for chemotherapeuticmethods. The present review analyzes bacteriological research data on thedifferent roles of bacteria associated with scallop culture and discussesrecentdata on the implementation of beneficial bacteria in biological control ofpathogens in larval mass cultures of Argopectenpurpuratus.  相似文献

The administration of antimicrobials to control bacterial pathologies in Chilean scallop hatcheries is a frequent practice, but their effects on these cultures remained unknown. This study was undertaken to obtain information on the effect of the administration of florfenicol and oxytetracycline on the growth, survival and bacterial content of scallop larvae under farming conditions. Florfenicol‐treated cultures exhibited high survival rates (44% after 17 days of culture), whereas cultures not treated or treated with oxytetracycline collapsed after 11 days of culture. Surprisingly, no significant differences in the heterotrophic (Tukey test; = 0.226) and Vibrio (Tukey test; = 0.666) concentrations between the oxytetracycline‐treated and untreated larval cultures were observed. Otherwise, florfenicol administered directly into rearing tanks produced significantly higher larval growth (Tukey test; = 0.0001) and survival (Tukey test; = 0.011) than bath treatment. When 2 and 4 mg L?1 of florfenicol were compared, no significant differences in growth (t‐test; = 0.4596) and survival (Tukey test; = 0.057) were observed, suggesting that a concentration of 2 mg L?1 is sufficient to ensure larval production. The present results demonstrate the efficacy of florfenicol‐based therapy to increase larval survival and growth at commercial scale and prompt the necessity to standardize its use in Chilean scallop hatcheries.  相似文献

The gametogenic cycle of the northern scallop, Argopecten purpuratus (Lamarck, 1819) was studied in southern Chile. This species has a high commercial value and is cultivated in northern Chile, the location of its natural habitats. It has recently been introduced into southern Chile where advantages such as suitable sheltered locations protected from wave action favour its mass culture. However, there are also potential disadvantages, such as lower water temperatures, which could affect reproduction. The results of the monthly variations of the gonadosomatic index and the frequency of maturity stages in specimens cultivated in Metri Bay (41° 36′S; 72° 43′W) and in those kept on the seabed in Quihua Channel (41° 50′S; 73° 05′W), suggest that the maturity and spawning period of this species extends from the end of spring through autumn. This pattern was more pronounced in Metri Bay, where levels of maturity were higher, due to higher summer water temperatures, than in Quihua Channel. Specimens at different maturity stages are found throughout the year, which seems to be associated with a rapid gonad recovery. The general pattern of the gametogenic cycle of specimens in the cultures does not differ from that recorded in the natural habitat of the species. The data available suggest that during reproduction temperature changes are more important than the relative values of the temperature. This evidence would support the possibility of mass culture of this species in southern Chile, outside its natural distribution area that extends from Corinto, Nicaragua (12°S) to Valparaíso, Chile (33°S).  相似文献

Juvenile northern Chilean scallops of 937±55 μm shell height were exposed to five different concentrations of chloramphenicol (CHL) (5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 μg mL−1), plus a control without antibiotics. To determine the effect of CHL on the accompanying microflora, the number of colony-forming units (CFU) that grew on TGE culture medium was counted in the seawater of containers with juveniles, and in containers with microalgae used as food. Both were exposed to the same concentrations of CHL. The growth rates of juveniles treated with CHL and the control without antibiotic showed highly significant differences ( P =0.0001). The growth rate was inversely proportional to the CHL concentration. The control sample presented the highest growth rate (84.4±14.3 μm day−1), followed by the sample treated with 5 μg mL−1 (64.2±14.3 μm day−1). The survival in the control and in the treated samples with 5–50 μg mL−1 was rather high, with a mean value of 95%. Only the sample treated with 100 μg mL−1 had a low survival (36.7%). The CFU count was larger in the containers with juveniles, when compared with the ones with food. The CFU count tended to decrease with increasing CHL concentration in the juveniles.  相似文献

A marine vibrio (strain C33) having inhibitory effects on the growth of the pathogen Vibrio anguillarum-VAR was isolated from seawater used in mass culture of the north-Chilean scallop Argopecten purpuratus. This bacterial isolate demonstrated broad inhibitory activity on several bacterial strains, including some pathogenic vibrios. Ethyl acetate extracts of extracellular products of strain C33 were separated by thin layer chromatography (TLC), and three fractions thus obtained were found to have antimicrobial activity when tested using microplate bioassays. One of the fractions (A2) having marked antimicrobial activity, was further purified using TLC and analyzed by IR spectrophotometry and NMR'H and was characterized on a preliminary basis as an aliphatic hydroxyl ether. This compound demonstrated bacteriostatic activity against the important marine pathogens Vibrio parahaemolyticus and V. splendidus, and as discussed in the paper, may be useful in developing natural strategies for the control of pathogens in mass cultures of Argopecten purpuratus and possibly other molluscs affected by these bacteria.  相似文献

1. This paper sets out to: (1) review previous ecological studies and analyse recent trends of the Peruvian bay scallop fishery in order to better understand and to model the species’ temporal and spatial (meta) population dynamics along the South Pacific coast; (2) develop a fisheries model to protect the stock from overexploitation and optimize the annual yield of the pulse fishery in Independence Bay, the centre of the scallop diving fishery in Peru. 2. Natural stock fluctuations are very pronounced in this species and are positively correlated with the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). During such an event, habitat conditions for the Peruvian bay scallop are improved either regionally or locally, such that populations proliferate and larval production and dispersal are greatly increased. Extinct beds and new habitats are recolonized during these periods (producing a strong pulse of metapopulation biomass), although most become extinct very shortly thereafter. 3. For management purposes, two considerations are fundamental: (1) heavy overfishing or extinction of the main scallop source populations would endanger the metapopulation as a whole; (2) rates of growth and survival greatly increase (and with them the potential yield of the scallop stock) locally over an El Niño cycle in a way that can be roughly estimated from past experience, including the most recent El Niño event (1997–1998). 4. We suggest a fisheries management regime capable of adapting to natural changes and propose a procedure for calculating both the optimal yield and the respective fishing effort under normal upwelling and El Niño scenarios, considering changes in the size at first capture (Lc) and fishery mortality (F). Several experiments were performed examining the effect of different culture variables on the growth and survival of Argopecten nucleus and Nodipecten nodosus larvae. Higher growth and survival values were obtained at a low density (1 larvae mL?1) than at a high density (5 larvae mL?1), except for N. nodosus's survival, which was not affected by density. Higher growth was obtained when feeding the larvae a diet of Isochrysis galbana, similar results occurred with the diet of Isochrysis galbana+Chaetoceros calcitrans in A. nucleus and with I. galbana combined with the lipid emulsion EmDHA in N. nodosus. Higher survival was obtained when the diet included a mixture of microalgae than when EmDHA was supplemented. Growth and survival of the larvae of A. nucleus were greater when fed continuously, while N. nodosus grew and survived better when food was given discontinuously. Higher growth and survival values were recorded at lower food concentrations ranging from 20 to 40 cells μL?1 of I. galbana. Higher growth was observed with increasing temperature between 22 and 28 °C, although there was a simultaneous decrease in survival. No significant effects on larval production parameters were found when the culture water was changed totally or partially, but higher larval growth of N. nodosus was verified when a partial renewal of water was performed.  相似文献

  • 1. This study is the first attempt using Levins's Theory (loop analysis) in order to develop a sustainable management for the scallop, Argopecten purpuratus, fishery in Peru during El Niño‐Southern Oscillation events (ENSO) and upwelling conditions. Based on this theoretical framework, it was possible to estimate the local stability for each of these model systems and to follow the qualitative changes of the variables in response to external factors.
  • 2. Based on our results, we suggest the following management policies to be implemented: (1) during ENSO events the size at the first capture of the scallops should be >70 mm and (2) the increase in the number of fishermen during ENSO events must be prevented. Both measures increase the sustainability of fishery under ENSO and upwelling conditions. The ecological models predict that during ENSO and upwelling events, any management strategy to increase the recruitment of the scallop would not have a positive impact on the adult stock.
  • 3. Finally, we suggest that more efforts must be focused on the development of extended eco‐social models, which incorporate further social and economic variables, increasing realism of the abstractions for this fishery activity.

A pilot program to evaluate the feasibility of collecting juvenile (seed) scallops using Japanese technology was carried out from October 2001 to April 2002 in the Marine Reserve at La Rinconada, Antofagasta, Chile. The continuous presence of larvae in waters in the reserve allowed for collection of 400–15,340 spat per collector and showed the high reproductive capability of local scallops and the relationship between numbers of larvae in the water and amount of spatfall. Highest rates of settlement were proportional to high numbers of umbone larvae in the water at >5000 larvae m−3 when collectors were first immersed. Absence of a relationship between larval numbers and postlarval settlement with trophic factors such as chlorophyll and particulate organic matter in the water suggests that productivity was not limited by these factors. Harvest of spat from collectors immersed for four and five months had recovery efficiencies of 5.5% and 59.4% compared with settlement in collectors after immersion for one month. Cohort analyses of recovered spat suggested that settlement occurred over the lengthy immersion period and was due to the continuous presence of larvae in the water. The loss of a high percentage of spat over the 4–5 immersion period compared with settlement in the first month can be attributed to intraspecific competition of spat density and growth as well as clogging of the collectors by sediment and marine fouling that impeded a flow of water through the nets.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Two feeding experiments were conducted to elucidate growth performance of tiger puffer in a 10 m3 water volume closed system. In experiment 1, 1000 fish of 3.5 g average body weight were fed tiger puffer commercial feed twice daily to apparent satiation, 6 days a week for 224 days. Sand-filtered sea water was used and no water was exchanged during the rearing period. Immediately after cutting of lower teeth at day 112, daily feed consumption decreased greatly and 60 fish died in few days. Feeding rates recovered and then decreased gradually as nitrate levels increased from 600–1048 mg N/L. Fish grew to 343 g with 91% survival rate and 87% feed efficiency. Rearing conditions of experiment 2 were similar to experiment 1, except that culture water was exchanged to maintain the nitrate level less than 600 mg N/L during the 224-day experiment. Mortality and reduction of feed consumption occurred immediately after teeth cutting as was observed in experiment 1. Significant reduction of feed intake was not found during other rearing periods. Fish of 3 g grew to 303 g with 91% survival rate and 72% feed efficiency.  相似文献

采用半静态动力学富集实验方法,分别以石油烃、多环芳烃及含硫芳烃、烷烃为指标,通过分析海湾扇贝(Argopecten irradians)对轻柴油(–10#柴油)、重柴油的富集与消除规律,探讨柴油污染对海湾扇贝食用安全性的影响。实验结果表明:海湾扇贝体内石油烃、多环芳烃及含硫芳烃、烷烃含量与富集时间及水中石油烃浓度呈正相关。海湾扇贝不同组织对柴油的富集能力不同,累积量由高到低依次是内脏外套膜及鳃等其他组织闭壳肌。海湾扇贝对柴油的富集量与柴油的种类有关,相同条件下海湾扇贝对重柴油的富集量更高且消除速率比轻柴油慢,说明重柴油溢油污染对贝类质量安全的危害更大,更值得关注。受污染的扇贝移入清洁的海水中,体内的石油烃可以逐渐消除,消除速度要慢于富集速度。海湾扇贝对烷烃的富集倍数比多环芳烃低,消除速率比多环芳烃要快。海湾扇贝体内石油烃的消除主要是烷烃的贡献。受污染的海湾扇贝体内多环芳烃以2~3环为主,其消除速率比高环数多环芳烃快。受污染的海湾扇贝移入清洁的海水中,短时间内虽然石油烃残留量能下降至正常水平,但多环芳烃(尤其是高环数多环芳烃)残留仍会存在。因此建议在发生石油污染后,跟踪监测不仅要关注海水中石油烃,更要关注贝类体内石油烃,要将多环芳烃与石油烃的检测结果综合考虑。此外,出于食品安全考虑,食用扇贝时尽量去除内脏。  相似文献

Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) are often designed using simplified steady-state mass balances, which fail to account for the complex dynamics that biological water treatment systems exhibit. Because of the very slow dynamics, experimental development is also difficult. We present a new, fast and robust Modelica implementation of a material balance-based dynamic simulator for fish growth, waste production and water treatment in recirculating aquaculture systems. This simulator is used together with an optimization routine based on a genetic algorithm to evaluate the performance of three different water treatment topologies, each for two fish species (Rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon) and each in both a semi-closed (no denitrification) and a fully recirculating version (with denitrification). Each case is furthermore evaluated at both saturated and supersaturated oxygen levels in the fish tank influent. The 24 cases are compared in terms of volume required to maintain an acceptable TAN concentration in the fish tank. The results indicate that the smallest volume is obtainable by introducing several bypass flows in the treatment system of a semi-closed RAS and that the gains can be significant. We also show that recycling already treated water back upstream in the treatment process degrades performance and that if one wishes to have a fully recirculating system with minimal water exchange, then the flows of oxygen, carbon and nitrogen must be carefully considered. For several of the cases, no optimum with denitrification could be found. We thus demonstrate that the best configuration and operation strategy for water treatment varies with the conditions imposed by the fish culture, illustrating the complexity of RAS plants and the importance of simulations, but also that computer-driven optimal design has the potential to increase the treatment efficiency of biofilters which could lead to cheaper plants with better water quality.  相似文献

The major objective of this study was to introduce a newly designed recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for oyster (Crassostrea angulata) larval culture. The system includes a culture tank, a suspended circular inlet‐pipe, an upwelling aeration pipe, combined “banjo” sieves and a bioreactor chamber containing microalgae life keeping installation. The system was designed to resolve three problems: (i) stranding of larvae caused by water level changes and aeration, (ii) physical clogging of the screens and also (iii) deterioration of diet microalgae. The culture tank, “banjo” sieve size, water flow rate and light intensity for maintaining microalgae activity were all designed according to the pattern of larval movement and feeding behaviour. Results of this study showed the best average SGR for larval length was 6.36%/d (9.5 μm/d) and survival rate was 80%, with initial rearing density of 50 larvae/ml, indicating the problems above were fully resolved. Consequently, the system is fit for larval culture in mass production of oysters.  相似文献

采用自交、杂交和混交等不同的交配方式分别获得海湾扇贝“中科红”品种和普通养殖群体(对照组)的受精卵和幼虫,在20 ℃、23 ℃和26 ℃三个温度条件下培养,比较了两个群体在不同温度下的孵化率、10日龄幼虫存活率、1日龄和10日龄幼虫壳长。实验结果表明:“中科红”海湾扇贝自交系、杂交系和混交系的孵化率均大于对照组。自交系10日龄幼虫存活率显著高于对照组(P<0.05),而杂交系和混交系的10日龄幼虫存活率小于对照组,但差异不显著(P>0.05)。“中科红”海湾扇贝自交系(P<0.05)和混交系幼虫的1日龄壳长大于对照组,杂交系的显著小于对照组(P<0.05)。幼虫生长10日后,“中科红”海湾扇贝自交系、杂交系(P<0.05)和混交系幼虫壳长均比对照组大,表现了较强的生长优势。温度对4个性状均有显著影响(P<0.05)。“中科红”海湾扇贝对低温(20 ℃)和高温(26 ℃)的耐受性均高于对照组。  相似文献

Two different methods of establishing high-density spawner sanctuaries for bay scallop (Argopecten irradians irradians) restoration were evaluated over 2 years at a site in Northwest Harbor, East Hampton, New York, USA. Hatchery-reared scallops, which had been overwintered at nearby sites, were free-planted directly to the bottom in late March/early April at an initial target density of 94?C128 scallops/m2. In addition, scallops were stocked in off-bottom culture units consisting of three vertically stacked 15-mm mesh ADPI® bags at densities of 50, 100, or 200 scallops/bag (=117, 234, or 468 scallops/m2), respectively. Survival of scallops differed significantly by year, planting method, and scallop source. Survival of free-planted scallops was generally lower than caged scallops. Better survival of free-planted scallops in 2005 versus 2006 likely reflected the presence of luxuriant eelgrass beds in 2005, which were absent in 2006. Survival of scallops in ADPI bags was not appreciably related to stocking density. Shell growth was highest for free-planted scallops; in cages, growth was somewhat better at 50 versus 200 scallops/bag. Wet weights of epibionts were significantly higher in caged versus free-planted scallops. Reproductive condition of scallops stocked at 50/bag was usually higher than at 200/bag. Both free-planting and off-bottom systems yielded high densities of adult bay scallops at the time of spawning, which ensures a higher probability of successful fertilization of spawned eggs and thus a greater potential for success of restoration efforts.  相似文献

以长江野生圆口铜鱼(Coreius guichenoti)幼鱼(约150~400 g)为试验对象,开展了封闭循环水系统和船体网箱驯养圆口铜鱼的比较试验。每种驯养条件下的试验鱼均按规格分2组进行驯养。封闭循环水系统中2组试验鱼的放养密度分别为11.48 kg/m3和17.65 kg/m3,驯养时间为279 d,平均水温为(14.5±3.4)℃。船体网箱中2组试验鱼的放养密度分别为4.40 kg/m3和7.06 kg/m3,驯养时间244 d,平均水温为(20.0±3.1)℃。所有试验鱼均采用人工配合饲料进行饱食投喂。结果显示,封闭循环水系统和船体网箱驯养试验鱼的成活率分别为97.75%和83.78%,且大规格试验鱼比小规格试验鱼成活率略高。封闭循环水系统中两组试验鱼的体重特定生长率分别为0.08%/d和0.11%/d,船体网箱中两组试验鱼的体重特定生长率分别为0.17%/d和0.21%/d。船体网箱试验鱼的丰满度总体大于封闭循环水系统的试验鱼。封闭循环水系统中全年未暴发重大疾病,船体网箱中暴发过一次较大规模的小瓜虫、车轮虫等寄生虫病。结果表明,封闭循环水系统驯养圆口铜鱼的成活率高但生长较慢,船体网箱驯养圆口铜鱼的生长优势明显但易遭受疾病侵袭。综合而言,封闭循环水系统和船体网箱养殖均是当前比较可行的圆口铜鱼驯养方式。  相似文献

Two populations of catarina scallop, Argopecten ventricosus (= circularis) (Sowerby II, 1842), were evaluated for their larval growth and survival responses to different stocking densities. Larvae from the Magdalena population had a significantly higher growth but equal survival at a density of 10 larvae ml?1 compared with 20 larvae ml?1. Larvae from the Concepcion population grew better at densities of 15 and 20 larvae ml?1 than at densities of 5 and 10 larvae ml?1, although survival was lower at higher densities. The differing response of these two populations to increased stocking densities is explained as a possible consequence of different population adaptations related to behavioural and physiological mechanisms. The importance of establishing optimum stocking densities for molluscan larvae is stressed in two contexts: maximizing growth and survival for different populations when artificially reared, and understanding the effects of stocking densities on phenotypic variance, especially during the course of genetic studies.  相似文献

Theeffect of temperature on scope for growth was determined in juveniles of thenorthern scallop Argopecten purpuratus (Lamarck, 1819).This economically important species, has been introduced into the south ofChilegiven that large-scale cultivation within the natural distribution zone islimited. Nevertheless, the lower water temperatures that exist in the southcould restrict the growth rate. No difference in the scope for growth wasdetected in specimens kept at 10 ± 1 °C and 18 ±1 °C and fed with a mixed diet 1:1 of Chaetocerosgracilis and Tetraselmis suecica. Temperaturedid not affect the quantity of energy derived from food ingested, but energyloss through respiration, faeces and excretion was greater at 10 ± 1°C than at 18 ± 1 °C. The resultsindicate that the growth rates of A. purpuratus aremaintained between 10 ± 1 °C and 18 ± 1°C, which would favour large-scale cultivation over a widelatitudinal range.  相似文献
